The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Commander. The contact stated while driving 55-60 MPH, the engine revved, and the vehicle began to lose motive power. The contact veered to the side of the road. The contact stated that he shifted from drive (D) to park (P) and from park to neutral (N) and then drive (D) several times until the vehicle responded as needed. The contact stated that the failure recurred several times while driving. The vehicle was taken to two transmission specialists, where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be rebuilt. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the transmission specialist, where it was diagnosed that the transfer case was unintendedly shifting into neutral(N), and the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 13V175000 (Power Train, Electrical System). The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 175,000.

Was driving cars engine started shaking was stalling losing power in the middel of the road engine light came on we barely male the car home it was stalling out happend only less than 5 miles from home put code reader on vehicle had 5 codes one was Power train and other spark plug ect going out dealer ship they had it towed the tow truck driver couldn't get the 2 front tires to move took him 2 hrs finally he told me he had to remove my drive shaft to tow it the dealer ship cleared the codes told me nothing is wrong with the vehicle and I have to come get it and drive it home 1 hr 30 min from there I am not willing to do that it's unsafe also they sold it to me with broken seat belts and a water leak that flood in entire front of the car so now my car is sitting there and I have no help on this.they refuse to fix anything except the seat belts and won't tow it back to me.

The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Commander. The contact stated that occasionally while driving 35 – 65 MPH, the vehicle would shake and hesitate. The vehicle also lost power steering and braking functionality and stalled with an audible tone. There were no warning lights illuminated. On another occasion the vehicle lost motive power and was struck by the vehicle in the rear. There was no physical damage to the vehicle and there was no injury sustained. The police were not notified and both vehicles were able to drive away from the scene. On another occasion the vehicle stalled and was towed to the residence; then towed to the local dealer. The vehicle was diagnosed however, the contact was unaware of the results or if the vehicle was repaired. The failure persisted. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

LINCOLN HWY MERRILLVILLE, IN 46410) AND AN UNKNOWN RELAY SWITCH WAS REPLACED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE MECHANIC THEN INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR, CAMSHAFT SENSOR, AND POWER TRAIN CONTROL MODULE WERE DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 133,700.

OUR 2007 JEEP COMMANDER HAS HAD A RECURRING ISSUE FOR OVER A YEAR WHILE IN OPERATION WHETHER IN MOTION OR STATIONARY, VEHICLE WILL SHUT OFF RANDOMLY. WHEN YOU ATTEMPT TO RESTART THE VEHICLE, IT STARTS RIGHT BACK UP AGAIN. THE RANDOM VEHICLE SHUTDOWNS TAKE PLACE IN ALL DRIVING CONDITIONS AND REGARDLESS OF UPHILL OR DOWNHILL DRIVING. BROUGHT THE JEEP COMMANDER TO THE JEEP DEALERSHIP AND THEY REPLACED THE IGNITION SWITCH AS PART OF A RECALL. THIS DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM AT ALL AND THE DEALERSHIP WAS UNABLE TO FIGURE OUT CAUSES FOR RANDOM STALLING EVEN WHEN THE COMMANDER FAILED DURING TESTING WITH TECHNICIANS. I REPLACED VIRTUALLY EVERY SENSOR I COULD IMAGINE INCLUDING, THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR AND IDLE AIR CONTROL SENSOR, EGR, MAP SENSOR, AIR INTAKE SENSOR AND THE PCM. NO LUCK, WE HAVE THE SAME RANDOM STALLING AND THE PROCEDURE IS, RESTART THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL FOR RECOVERY WHILE IN MOTION. THE RESTART DOES NOT FAIL, BUT THE RANDOM STALLING CONTINUES SOMETIMES FIVE OR SIX TIMES ON A 100 MILE TRIP. THIS IS DANGEROUS AND CAN GET SOMEONE OR THEIR FAMILY KILLED.

THE POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) WAS PROGRAMMED WITH SOFTWARE THAT MAY ALLOW THE ENGINE TO STALL UNDER CERTAIN OPERATING CONDITIONS. CONSEQUENCE: THIS COULD CAUSE A CRASH WITHOUT WARNING. AFTER A YEARS TIME THE ISSUE STILL CONTINUED, BUT NOW I CANNOT BRING IT IN TO BE FIXED W/OUT BEING CHARGED. THE COMMANDER WAS SLUGGISH ON A TRIP TO FLORIDA, WHEN I WOULD PRESS THE ACCELERATOR, IT WOULD HESITATE AND SPUTTER. THE MONTH BEFORE THIS TRIP, I JUST HAD THE TRANSMISSION SERVICED AT 60K TO KEEP THE POWER TRAIN WARRANTY INTACT. SO FIGURED SOMETHING WAS DONE INCORRECTLY AT THE DEALERSHIP AND WE WOULD DEAL WITH IT WHEN WE RETURNED HOME. I WISH WE WOULD HAVE FOUND A REPAIR SHOP IN FL TO LOOK INTO IT AS THE JEEP TURNED OFF ON US GOING 74 MPH ON I-95. WE ALMOST GOT REAR ENDED BY A SEMI. WE DROVE 65 THE REST OF THE WAY HOME AND IT WAS ONE OF THE SCARIEST MOMENTS OF MY LIFE. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY READ THE CODE AND CLEARED THE CODE LIKE THEY DID PREVIOUSLY WHEN IT WOULD DO A HARD DOWNSHIFT WITH A LOVELY CLUNK WHEN COMING TO A STOP. THIS FIXED THE ISSUE UNTIL WE WERE COMING BACK FROM A FOUR HOUR TRIP AND THE LURCHING FORWARD WHEN GOING UP AN INCLINE STARTED AGAIN. IT CUT OFF, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYED LIT, AS WELL AS THE PARK ASSIST. LIKE BEFORE WE COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, TURNED IT OFF AND RESTARTED IT. TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD IT WAS THE FUEL SENSOR AND SHELLED OUT $750 TO GET IT FIXED. I AM SCARED TO DRIVE THIS SUV AND HAVE NEVER HAD THIS ISSUE HAPPEN TO ANY OF THE 20 CARS WE HAVE PREVIOUSLY OWNED. I PURCHASED MY USED JEEP COMMANDER AND SHORTLY AFTER IT STALLED ON ME WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I TOOK TURNED THE KEY AND GOT IT TO TURN ON AGAIN, LUCKILY THERE WERE NO CARS BEHIND ME. ANOTHER TIME I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED, AGAIN I WAS LUCKY THE TRAFFIC WAS BACKED UP AND NOT MOVING TOO FAST. BEFORE MY WARRANTY RAN OUT I TOOK IT IN AND THE DEALERSHIP SAID THERE WAS NOTHING COMING UP ON THEIR TESTS THAT WAS OF CONCERN. THE NEXT MONTH MY WARRANTY EXPIRED AND I WAS STRANDED AT A STORE. MY JEEP WOULD NOT TURN ON CLAIMING "TRANSMISSION OVER TEMP." IT WAS NOT THE BATTERY. I LEFT IT OVER NIGHT AND WENT BACK THE NEXT DAY AND IT STARTED RIGHT UP. ABOUT A MONTH LATER I WAS BACK AT THE SHOP WITH THE "TRANSMISSION OVER TEMP" ISSUE, BUT THE JEEP BEHAVED AT THE DEALERSHIP. I PICKED IT UP AND ABOUT 2 MONTHS LATER I WAS BACK AT THE SHOP, HAVING TO TOW IN MY CAR. THE CAR AGAIN TURNED ON, SO THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE STARTER RELAY ON A GUESS (I WAS NOT CHARGED). AGAIN 2 MONTHS LATER MY CAR IS BACK IN THE SHOP FOR NOT TURNING ON, AGAIN SAYING THAT THERE IS A "TRANSMISSION OVER TEMP" ISSUE. IMMEDIATELY TOOK IT TO GARAGE WHICH DETERMINED CODE WERE U0404 (IMPLAUSIBLE DATA RECEIVED FROM ESM), P0607 (ECU INTERNAL PERFORMANCE) AND B1A28 (ECM MISMATCH WITH SKM). DEALERS HAD TWO SHIFTER/ESM ASSEMBLIES IN STOCK. THAT TELLS ME THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AS I HAVE READ ON THE INTERNET THAT IT IS. THIS VEHICLE IS PAMPERED AND ONLY DRIVEN ABOUT 5K PER YEAR, MOSTLY WHEN I GOT TO OUR HUNTING CAMP UP STATE. REPAIR COST $1,130.99. THE ENGINE STAYED RUNNING BUT WOULD NOT RESPOND TO THE GAS PEDAL, DECELERATING. TURNED ON HAZARD LIGHTS AND PULLED OVER, PLACED VEHICLE IN PARK, SHIFTED TO DRIVE, AND CONTINUED AS NORMAL. A SHORT TIME LATER, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THE PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT, AND HAS HAPPENED MANY TIMES SINCE THEN AND IN MANY DIFFERENT DRIVING SITUATIONS. THE VEHICLE IS DANGEROUS AND CANNOT BE TRUSTED TO PROVIDE POWER OR ACCELERATION WHEN IT IS NEEDED. PRIVATE SHOP CHECKED THE FAULT CODES AND REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE WHICH DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. WHEN THIS HAPPENS THE GEAR DISPLAY ON THE DASH PRND WILL ALL 4 GET CIRCLED AND FLASH AND THEN AS YOU ARE ACCELERATING YOU CAN FEEL THE VEHICLE LOSE SPEED. YOU CAN NO LONGER ACCELERATE THE VEHICLE AND HAVE TO COAST OFF THE ROAD. ONCE YOU STOP AND SHIFT TO PARK THEN BACK TO DRIVE IT WILL RESET AND THEN ALLOW YOU TO ACCELERATE. I WAS GOING 65 ON THE FREEWAY WHEN THIS HAPPENED LAST AND THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. FOR ABOUT THE PAST 30,000-40,000 K MILES WE HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH IT SHIFTING PROPERLY AND EVERY TIME WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THEY CAN NEVER RE CREATE THE ISSUE. MY 2007 JEEP COMMANDER REFUSES TO ACCELERATE AFTER THE SERVICE PARK ASSIST LIGHT COMES ON AND ALL GEAR OPTIONS HIGHLIGHT AT THE SAME TIME. THIS WILL HAPPEN WITHOUT WARNING WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND OR HIGHWAY. THE ONLY WAY TO GET THE VEHICLE TO BEGIN TO ACCELERATE AGAIN IS TO PUT THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL AND APPLY THE ACCELERATOR. MY 8 MONTH PREGNANT WIFE WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK AND THE PRND LIGHT ALL LIT UP AT THE SAME TIME. THE DASHBOARD READ "SERVICE PARK ASSIST BRAKE" AND THE CAR QUIT ACCELERATING AND THE LIGHTS TURNED OFF. LUCKILY NOBODY WAS DRIVING BEHIND HER AND SHE WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE CAR. IF THIS HAPPENS WHILE TURNING ONTO THE ROAD YOU COULD EASILY BE HIT FROM THE SIDE OR FROM BEHIND. WE HAD A COUPLE OTHER INCIDENTS OF LOSS OF ACCELERATION, BUT BOTH TIMES THE CAR STARTED ACCELERATING AGAIN AFTER 5 OR 10 SECONDS. IN EVERY INSTANCE THE PRND ON THE DASHBOARD LIGHT UP AT THE SAME TIME.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP COMMANDER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESTART AND IT WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE SHE WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS A COMPUTER FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY WHILE DRIVING AND STOPPING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER TO BE REPAIRED. SHE ALSO STATED THAT WHEN THE VEHICLE STOPPED IT WOULD INTERMITTENTLY PERFORM AS IF IT WERE RUNNING OUT OF FUEL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND SHE WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 08V203000, POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:CONTROL MODULE (TCM, PCM). 2007 JEEP COMMANDER, STARTED WITH "SERVICE PARK ASSIST" LIGHT COMING ON ALONG WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. TOOK IT IN FOR SERVICE, THEY COULD NOT DETERMINE THE PROBLEM SO THEY RESET THE SYSTEM. TWO DAYS LATER THE SAME THING BEGAN TO HAPPEN AGAIN, ALONG WITH THE LIGHTS AROUND THE P N R D ON THE DISPLAY COMING ON ALL TOGETHER, THE CAR ALSO THEN BEGAN TO NOT WANT TO ACCELERATE AFTER A CERTAIN POINT. ALMOST ACTING LIKE IT WAS NOT WANTING TO SHIFT TO THE NEXT GEAR. THIS HAPPENED FOR 8 MONTHS, STILL NO SERVICE WAS DONE BECAUSE THEY WERE UNABLE TO RECREATE THE PROBLEM. IT BEGAN TO OCCUR WHILE DRIVING AND COMING TO A STOP AND STARTING TO GO FORWARD AGAIN. CAUSING PROBLEMS CROSSING INTERSECTIONS OR TRAFFIC. HAVE NOW BEEN TOLD TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE, WHICH WE DID. THIS DID NOT FIX THE ISSUE. IN THE LAST WEEK WERE TOLD TO REPLACE THE ELECTRONIC SHIFT MODULE.

TRANSMISSION STALLING WHILE DRIVING- ACCORDING THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH THE ELECTRONIC SHIFT MODULE. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES AND IS ALSO A NOTED PROBLEM IN THESE VEHICLES. THIS SAME VEHICLE HAS ALREADY BEEN RECALLED FOR SIMILAR ISSUE, BUT ONLY FOR THE BIGGER ENGINE SIZE. CHRYSLER HAS INFORMED ME THAT THEY WILL NOT INVESTIGATE EVEN THOUGH IT IS THE SAME PROBLEM IN A DIFFERENT ENGINE SIZE. THE VEHICLE CAN BE TRAVELING AT 70 MPH ON THE INTERSTATE AND STALL WITHOUT WARNING. IT WILL NOT GO ANY FURTHER WITHOUT STOPPING, TURNING OFF THE ENGINE AND RESTARTING. WITHOUT THE DEALERSHIP ABLE TO ESTABLISH CAUSE, I HAD TO WAIT FOR THE ENGINE LIGHT TO COME ON. WHEN THE CRUISE CONTROL IS ENGAGED AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND THE VEHICLE IS TRAVELING DOWN A HILL THE CRUISE CONTROL WILL PROPERLY DOWNSHIFT TO SLOW THE VEHICLE AND KEEP IT AT THE SET SPEED. IF THE VEHICLE IS THEN SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL, THE CRUISE CONTROL WILL DISENGAGE PROPERLY AND THE TRANSMISSION WILL GO INTO THE NEUTRAL GEAR, BUT WHEN SHIFTED BACK INTO DRIVE THE TRANSMISSION WILL RE-ENGAGE AND WILL SLOW THE VEHICLE EXTREMELY ABRUPTLY AS IF SOMEONE SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES WITH FULL FORCE AND WILL NEARLY LOCK-UP THE REAR WHEELS ON DRY PAVEMENT. THIS WILL OCCUR EVEN IF THE CRUISE CONTROL IS TURNED OFF BEFORE SHIFTING BACK INTO DRIVE. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME TWICE BECAUSE OF THE PLACEMENT OF THE SHIFTER, AND IT WAS TERRIFYING BECAUSE OF THE SPEED I WAS TRAVELING AND THE ABRUPTNESS WITH WHICH THE VEHICLE SLOWED. FIRSTLY, THE EVENT THAT BROUGHT THIS LETTER ABOUT TOOK PLACE ON 03/28/2008 AT 7:30 PM. THE JEEP COMMANDER I OWN SMASHED INTO MY HOUSE. WE BEGAN BBQ-ING ABOUT 6:00 PM. WHILE THE FOOD WAS COOKING WE SAT IN MY JEEP WITH THE DOORS OPEN AND ENGINE OFF. (THE PORCH WAS WET) AFTER THE FOOD WAS DONE, I TOOK IT INSIDE AND MY 6 YEAR OLD SON DYLAN STAYED OUTSIDE TO PLAY FOR A FEW MORE MINUTES. DYLAN WAS IN THE FRONT SEAT PRETENDING TO DRIVE. THE KEYS TO THE VEHICLE WERE INSIDE THE HOUSE AND WE LIVE ON A SECLUDED PIECE OF LAND IN THE COUNTRY, SO I SAW NO HARM IN THIS. HOWEVER, A FEW MINUTES LATER WHEN I HEARD A CRASH AND FELT MY HOUSE MOVE, I HAD SECOND THOUGHTS! AT FIRST I DIDN'T ACTUALLY REALIZE WHAT HAD HAPPENED; I WAS SEARCHING THE HOUSE FOR WHAT COULD HAVE CAUSED SUCH A RACKET. THEN MY SON CAME IN THE HOUSE HYSTERICALLY CRYING. ALL HE COULD MANAGE WAS, 'THE CAR, THE CAR'. AT FIRST I THOUGHT HE MEANT A TOY CAR AND THEN AS I RUSHED OUTSIDE TO FIND THE CAUSE OF HIS HYSTERIA I DISCOVERED MY JEEP HAD CRASHED INTO MY HOUSE. AS I WAS STUNNED AND STARING AT THE UNBELIEVABLE SITE BEFORE ME, MY SON WAS STILL PANIC-STRICKEN AND SOBBING. I THOUGHT AT FIRST THAT HE HAD TAKEN MY KEYS AND STARTED THE CAR, BUT THE CAR WASN'T RUNNING AND I FOUND MY KEYS NEATLY ON THEIR HOOK, AS ALWAYS. DYLAN COULDN'T MAKE ANY FUNCTIONAL SENTENCES TO EXPLAIN WHAT HAPPENED SO I BEGAN TO INVESTIGATE. I FOUND THE GEARSHIFT IN REVERSE, BUT THERE WERE NO KEYS IN THE CAR. SINCE I HAD RETRIEVED MY KEYS, I BACKED THE CAR UP TO ITS USUAL POSITION TO CHECK OUT THE DAMAGE. I CONTINUED MY INVESTIGATION AND FOUND THAT EVEN WITH NO KEY IN THE IGNITION AND NO FOOT ON THE BRAKE, THE GEARSHIFT WOULD EASILY SHIFT FROM PARK TO ANY OTHER GEAR. SO DUE TO THIS MALFUNCTION, DYLAN'S INNOCENT PRETEND 'DRIVING' BECAME REAL AND RESULTED IN A REAL ACCIDENT THAT COULD HAVE SERIOUSLY INJURED HIM OR ONE OF MY OTHER CHILDREN AND DID REAL DAMAGE THE VEHICLE AS WELL AS MY HOUSE. *TR
