I BOUGHT THE JEEP COMPASS AROUND JULY OR AUG. NO SOONER THEN I BOUGHT IT IT WOULD JERK WHEN I WOULD TAKE OFF. THEN MY RPMS WOULD REV UP. LILE ITS NOT SHIFTING THE RIFHT WAY. ALSO MY JEEP HAS A HARD TIME GOING UP HILL. I DON'T FEEL LIKE MY JEEP IS SAFE AND IT SCARES ME. ALSO MY ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON TODAY.

THE VEHICLE FAILED INSPECTION LAST WEEK DUE TO X58 FRONT/REAR CROSSMEMBER BEING COMPLETELY RUSTED AND IN DANGEROUS CONDITION. APPARENTLY THIS WAS UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE THIS HAS BEEN A SERIOUS ISSUE. I WAS NOT AWARE OF THE PROBLEM NOR THE WARRANTY AND NOW I'M STUCK WITH A CAR THAT IS NOT DRIVABLE.
ENGINE STALLS AFTER REFILLING GAS TO "FULL" TANK. IT HAPPENS AFTER TANK REFILL ONLY. IT HAPPENS WITHIN A QUARTER MILE OF THE GAS STATION. TODAY IT HAPPENED WHILE I WAS IN TRAFFIC. I SEARCHED THIS ISSUE ONLINE AND THERE MULTIPLE REPORTS OF THE SAME ISSUE FOR COMPASSES AND PATRIOTS. I DON'T THINK THERE IS A DEPENDENCY ON SPEED. IT IS MORE LIKELY THE TIME AFTER REFILLING AND STARTING ENGINE.

CAR STALLS AFTER REFUELING. PROBLEM BEGINS A FEW MINUTES AFTER FILLING THE TANK. I HAVE TO SIT AT THE GAS STATION AND TRY KEEPING IT RUNNING BEFORE LEAVING, IT IS NOT SAFE IN TRAFFIC. IT ONLY DOES IT AFTER REFUELING. I AM TOLD I NEED TO REPLACE THE GAS TANK TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THEY TELL ME GAS IS GOING BACK INTO THE CHARCOAL CANISTER MESSING WITH THE COMPUTER. A BAD VALVE IN THE GAS TANK, REQUIRING THE ENTIRE GAS TANK TO BE REPLACED. I HAVE BEEN DOING SOME RESEARCH ON THIS ISSUE AND FINDING A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE IT IS NOT JUST A JEEP COMPASS ISSUE.

I HAVE AN 07 JEEP COMPASS. I HAVE OWNED IT FOR 5 YEARS AND I HAVE A MAJOR SAFTEY ISSUES. GAS LIGHT CAME ON SO I FILLED UP. GOT A FEW YARDS FROM THE PUMP AND IT STALLED. NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT OR ANYTHING CAME ON. WAS ABLE TO PULL INTO A PARKING SPOT. EVERY TIME I TURN THE CAR ON IT SPUTTERS A BIT THEN RUNS. AFTER ABOUT A MINUTE OR TWO OF IDLING IT STALLS. TRIED LETTING IT IDLE AND REVVING THE ENGINE. MY CAR STOPPED IN EVERYWHERE IN ROADS, HIGHWAYS, AND THANKS GOD I DIDN'T GET INTO ANY ACCIDENT. I SEARCHED ONLINE AND IT TURNED OUT THAT MANY JEEP/CHRYSLER OWNERS HAVE THIS ISSUE AND THERE WAS A RECALL FOR JEEP COMPASS 2011/2012 FOR THIS ISSUE BUT OTHER MODELS. EVERY TIME I FUEL UP VEHICLE IT STALLS LEAVING THE GAS STATION. USUALLY ONLY A FEW HUNDRED FEET , IT SHUTS DOWN , I HAVE TO QUICKLY PUT IT INTO PARK AND RESTART THE ENGINE. I NOW ONLY PUT IN 8 GALS WHEN ITS LOW ON THE GAUGE. SINCE THEN IT WONT STALL. THE CAR WAS ACCELERATING LEAVING THE STATION STOPPING IN FRONT OF COMING TRAFFIC.

UPDATE TO COMPLAINT. JEEP DEALER JUST CALLED AND THEY ARE REPLACING THE FUEL TANK AND CHARCOAL CANISTER WAS TOLD THIS WAS A COMMON ISSUE AND THEY HAD SEEN IT BEFORE . THE ROLLOVER VALVE IN THE FUEL TANK WAS BAD AND STICKING OPEN ALLOWING FUEL TO DUMP INTO THE EVAP SYSTEM FILLING THE CHARCOAL CANISTER WITH GAS CAUSING THE STALL . THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE SINCE A FAULTY VALVE WONT SHUT OFF IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH CAUSING A FIRE AND CAN ALSO CAUSE A ACCIDENT FROM STALLING IN TRAFFIC WHILE IN MOTION AND THE STEERING LOCKING UP. I HAVE BEEN IN THE AUTO REPAIR BUSINESS FOR 30 YEARS AT A DEALERSHIP AND SEEN A LOT OF ISSUES BUT NHTSA REALLY NEED TO ADDRESS THIS PROBLEM BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED IF THEY HAVE NOT ALREADY. JEEP COMPASS STALLS AFTER REFUELING IN MOTION ON HIGHWAY, STEERING LOCKS UP WHEN CAR STALLS AND MAKES JEEP UNCONTROLLABLE. HAD JEEP TOWED TO DEALER AND THEY FOUND A BAD CHARCOAL CANISTER WAS "FULL OF FUEL" REPLACED CANISTER DROVE FOR ONE WEEK AND REFUELED MANAGED TO GO 1 MILE AND JEEP STALLED AGAIN AT ABOUT 45 MPH . GOT JEEP STOPPED AND RESTARTED MANAGED TO GET THE LAST 1/2 MILE HOME AND IT STALLED AGAIN PULLING IN DRIVE WAY AND ALMOST RAN THRU THE FRONT OF MY HOUSE BEFORE STOPPING. EXTREMELY UNSAFE CAR RETURNING BACK TO THE DEALER SERVICE DEPT FOR THE 3RD TIME . AFTER READING ONLINE I HAVE FOUND THIS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE ON THE JEEP COMPASS SOME RESULTING IN ACCIDENTS FROM LOSS OF CONTROL. I AM FINDING THE ROLLOVER VALVE IS BAD ALLOWING FUEL TO BE PUSHED BACK THRU THE EVAP SYSTEM CAUSING THE STALL

ENGINE STALL AFTER FUELING. AFTER FILLING TANK THE ENGINE WILL STALL WHEN IN MOTION ON HIGHWAY WAS TOLD BY DEALER THERE WAS A DESIGN FLAW IN THE EVAP SYSTEM PURGE CONTROL VALVE THAT ALLOWS FUEL TO ENTER THE CHARCOAL CANISTER IF YOU FILL THE TANK WHEN FUELING. WHEN THIS HAPPENS THE JEEP WILL STALL WHEN IN MOTION ON THE HIGHWAY OR CITY TRAFFIC AND THE STEERING IS NON RESPONSIVE MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE JEEP IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND HAS A SERVICE BULLETIN OUT ON IT BUT OFFERS NO FIX OTHER THAN DO NOT FILL UP YOUR TANK. THIS ALMOST RESULTED IN A MAJOR ACCIDENT ON INTERSTATE 95 ON 11/14/2015 THIS NEED TO BE A RECALL IT IS NOT A ISOLATED PROBLEM READ ANY GOOGLE SEARCH ON LINE AND THERE ARE THOUSAND OF OWNERS WITH THE SAME ISSUE TRYING TO FIND OUT WHAT I WRONG AND A FIX

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP COMPASS 4X4. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 2 MPH, A CLICKING NOISE EMITTED FROM THE TRANSMISSION OR ENGINE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THIS WAS A RECURRING FAILURE. THE CONTACT DROVE THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE'S ENGINE HAS A CONSISTENT TENDENCY TO SPUTTER, HESITATE, AND/OR COMPLETELY SHUT-OFF, ESPECIALLY AFTER FUELING. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON BUSY ROADWAYS AND AND INTERSECTIONS. WE HAVE ATTEMPTED TO HAVE THE PROBLEM DIAGNOSED AND REPAIRED BUT I QUICKLY REALIZED THEY HAD NO IDEA WHAT THE REAL PROBLEM WAS AND WAS EMPLOYING A SHOT-IN-THE-DARK METHOD. SINCE THEN I HAVE FOUND SEVERAL OTHER OWNERS WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM BUT WITH NO RESPONSE FROM JEEP/CHRYSLER/DODGE. I AM THE PRIMARY DRIVER OF THIS VEHICLE NOW, AS I DO NOT WANT MY WIFE AND CHILD TO BE SUBJECTED TO THIS POTENTIAL HAZARD. *TR
