THIS JEEP COMPASS WAS PURCHASED FOR OUR COLLEGE AGE DAUGHTER IN MARCH 2019, TODAY WHILE DRIVING, HER REAR DRIVER SIDE WHEEL MADE A LOUD NOISE THEN FELT LIKE IT 'DROPPED' AND UPON GETTING STOPPED, SHE DIDN'T WRECK THANK GOD, AS SHE WAS PULLING INTO OUR DRIVE. UPON INSPECTION IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT HER REAR CROSSMEMBER HAD RUSTED INTO. I SEARCHED AND FOUND THAT THERE HAD AT ONE TIME BEEN A RECALL ON THIS PARTICULAR PART DUE TO EXCESSIVE RUST FROM THE SALT BELT STATES. WE ARE IN KY BUT WHEN WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IT WAS TITLED IN MICHIGAN, WHICH IS MOST DEFINITELY IN THAT SALT BELT. I AM NOT SURE WHY THIS RECALL WAS NOT COMPLETED BY THE FORMER OWNER BUT I BELIEVE IT SHOULD BE CORRECTED NO MATTER THE AGE OF THE VEHICLE. THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED MY DAUGHTER TO BE IN A VERY SERIOUS ACCIDENT. WE HAD NO INFORMATION ABOUT ANY RECALL THAT HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN ISSUED.

THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 178,255.

I SEEN THAT THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL ON THE SAME MAKE,MODEL AND YEAR FOR TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS...I JUST PURCHASE THE JEEP FROM A CAR LOT 2/2017 HAD A 30 DAY WARRANTY DURING THAT TIME THEY HAD TO WORK ON 6 TIMES JUST MADE MY SECOND PAYMENT AND I CAN'T ACCELERATE AFTER IT GETS UP TO 40 FIRST RPMS DIDN'T MOVE AT ALL THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED NOW RMP AND GOING UP AND WON'T GO DOWN....I FEEL THAT IT'S COULD BE A SAFETY ISSUE CAUSE IF I'M ON THE HIGHWAY AND IT HAPPENS WITH NO WARNING SOMEONE FOLLOWING CLOSE BEHIND ME THAT COULD ENDED BADLY AND AFTER LOOKING INTO THE PROBLEM LOOKS LIKE IT HAPPENS ALOT WITH THIS MODEL....

JEEP COMPASS STALLS AFTER REFUELING IN MOTION ON HIGHWAY, STEERING LOCKS UP WHEN CAR STALLS AND MAKES JEEP UNCONTROLLABLE. HAD JEEP TOWED TO DEALER AND THEY FOUND A BAD CHARCOAL CANISTER WAS "FULL OF FUEL" REPLACED CANISTER DROVE FOR ONE WEEK AND REFUELED MANAGED TO GO 1 MILE AND JEEP STALLED AGAIN AT ABOUT 45 MPH . GOT JEEP STOPPED AND RESTARTED MANAGED TO GET THE LAST 1/2 MILE HOME AND IT STALLED AGAIN PULLING IN DRIVE WAY AND ALMOST RAN THRU THE FRONT OF MY HOUSE BEFORE STOPPING. EXTREMELY UNSAFE CAR RETURNING BACK TO THE DEALER SERVICE DEPT FOR THE 3RD TIME . AFTER READING ONLINE I HAVE FOUND THIS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE ON THE JEEP COMPASS SOME RESULTING IN ACCIDENTS FROM LOSS OF CONTROL. I AM FINDING THE ROLLOVER VALVE IS BAD ALLOWING FUEL TO BE PUSHED BACK THRU THE EVAP SYSTEM CAUSING THE STALL

THE CONTACT DROVE THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. AS I WROTE IN PREVIOUS COMMENTS, I HAVE SPENT OVER $11,000 OVER THIS PERIOD OF TIME. I HAVE REPLACED THE WHEEL HUBS, TIE ROD ENDS, THE FRONT SUSPENSION AND ALL RODS CONCERNING THE REAR. I HAVE REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION AT 98,000 MILES COSTING ME $3200. THE TRANSMISSION COULD NOT BE REPAIRED, THE WHOLE TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE REPLACED. AND YES I HAVE 158,000 MILES, BUT IF YOU COMPARE $11,000 JUST ON REPAIRS TO THIS PILE OF CRAP. I HAVE COMPLAINED BEFORE, AND NOTHING HAPPENS. AS I WAS TOLD THERE WERE 14,000 COMPLAINTS JUST WHAT I HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT AND STILL NO RECALLS. I BOUGHT A 2007 JEEP COMPASS 11 MONTHS AGO FROM LITHE CHEVROLET/DODGE/JEEP. IT HAD 64,000 MILES ON IT. IN THE 11 MONTHS THAT I HAVE HAD THE CAR THE RACK AND PINION AND STEERING PUMP HAVE HAD TO BE REPLACED TWICE. AT MY EXPENSE. THE BALL JOINTS HAVE BEEN REPLACED. MY STRUTS AND BRAND NEW TIRES ARE DESTROYED. THE WHOLE BOTTOM OF THE VEHICLE FEELS LIKE IT IS GOING TO SEPARATE FROM THE FRAME. I STARTED HAVING THESE PROBLEMS WITHIN 1 WEEK OF OWNING THE VEHICLE. THE DEALERSHIP WOULD NOT HONOR THE WARRANTY AND WOULD BLOW IT OFF AS ME BEING "SILLY". CVT TRANSMISSION STARTED MAKING NOISE AND NOT SHIFTING AT 42000 MILES. NO ACCIDENT OCCURRED BUT SINCE JEEP/DODGE SERVICE DEPARTMENTS ARE NOT AUTHORIZED TO PERFORM MAINTENANCE ON CVT TRANSMISSIONS IT HAD TO BE REPLACED. DUE TO ISSUES WITH JEEP/DODGE A NEW TRANSMISSION WOULD HAVE BEEN ON BACKORDER FOR A MINIMUM OF 30 DAYS. I WAS NOT ABLE TO WAIT THAT LONG SO I FOUND A LOW MILEAGE TRANSMISSION IN A SALVAGE YARD AND HAD THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT INSTALL IT. BECAUSE I PURCHASED MY JEEP APPROX. 2 WEEKS BEFORE THE LIFETIME POWERTRAIN WARRANTY WAS INITIATED I HAD TO BEAR THE ENTIRE COST. *TR

WAS DROPPING DAUGHTER OFF AT THE BUS STOP WHEN FIRST NOTICED THAT SHIFTING INTO FIRST GEAR WAS DIFFICULT. THEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN WHEN I WAS AT A STOP LIGHT, THE CAR WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO 1ST OR 2ND GEAR, WAITED AND PUMPED THE CLUTCH AND IT WENT IN. NEXT DAY WAS LEAVING HOME AND THE CAR WOULD NOT SHIFT AFTER I STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN, AND RETURNED HOME AFTER THE CAR FINALLY WENT INTO GEAR. MECHANIC TOLD US THAT THE SLAVE CYLINDER WAS LEAKING PROFUSELY. OUR 2007 JEEP COMPASS 4X4 MANUAL TRANSMISSION ONLY HAD 38,121 MILES. WE HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT BY SEVERAL MECHANICS THAT THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN TO A CAR THIS NEW WITH SO FEW MILES. ALL OF THE PARTS WERE ON BACK ORDER AND OUR CAR HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP NINE DAYS. JEEP HAS FIXED THE PROBLEM, BUT HAS NOT TAKEN THE RESPONSIBILITY TO PAY FOR THE ENTIRE REPAIR. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 JEEP COMPASS 4X4. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD SHUT OFF WHILE IDLING AND WITH THE CLUTCH IN GEAR. ON AUGUST 19, 2007, WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH, THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF. SHE ALSO STATED THAT WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS IN REVERSE AND THE CLUTCH WAS DOWN, THE VEHICLE FORCED ITSELF TO DRIVE BACKWARDS. AFTERWARDS, THE CLUTCH STOPPED WORKING COMPLETELY. THE DEALER TOWED THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE SLAVE CYLINDER SNAPPED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 400.
