I have had problems with a hitch or pause in the acceleration of my 2012 Jeep Compass since at least April of last year. I purchased the vehicle used in January 2021. In and of itself, the hitch would be a minor thing, but I think it's related to other problems I'm having with the vehicle losing acceleration, which has become a real point of concern. This has occurred multiple times when I start accelerating from a stop, such as when I'm at an intersection. The car loses acceleration, the traction control light sometimes will come on, the steering will tighten up like I've lost power steering, and the car will come to a halt and stop idling. Nothing happens when I give it gas after it's stopped in these circumstances. I learned that if I turn the car off and back on, that will serve as a sort of reset, and I regain power and can get back on the road. The car has had active codes for a catalytic converter and a crankshaft position sensor. I replaced the crankshaft position sensor in April of last year (with an OEM sensor) after losing power while merging onto an interstate. That seemed to resolve the loss of acceleration problem, but it recurred starting in December of last year. I replaced the crankshaft position sensor again recently, this time with an aftermarket sensor, as I thought the sensor I put in previously may have been defective, but the problem has started occurring more frequently. Losing power while turning into or crossing intersections is a scary thing, and I've begun to feel I cannot drive the car safely. I've read accounts online of many Jeep Compass owners having problems with losing acceleration, and I've begun to suspect that the problem is not simply related to the parts associated with the active codes. The sad thing is that I just finished paying off the loan I took out for this car, and I have little extra money. I don't know what I'm going to do. Please investigate these vehicles (problem affects various Compass model years).

Everytime I drive it acts as if it’s not getting sufficient fuel to the engine . Have had multiple things replaced to try and fix the problem but still not helped . Whole Engine sputters when I stop and acts as if it’s not getting any fuel to accelerate. Has almost caused a few crashes . To my surprise recalls have been made for my vehicle but says they have been repaired. I personally don’t think they have

The catalytic converter is failing on this vehicle. The vehicle had been maintained pre manufacturer specifications. Check engine light came on without warning. Crank shaft and cam shaft sensor both Failed on vehicle and had to be replaced. All bearing had to be replaced. Two of which were fixed before 60,000 miles. Hood rusted completely through. Cross members are rusting through.

I've recently out of the blue developed problems with my car. For some reason it want crank ( 2), air-conditioner making popping noise as well stopped working, and it also jerks shortly after cranking ( like a hiccup. We have been receiving a check engine light on our 2012 Jeep Compass for code P0420. Reset the system but subsequently vehicle failed emissions testing. After some research we discovered this model vehicle and several others were supposed to be receiving a recall of the catalytic converters. Please see this article on cars.com dated March 2019 https://www.cars.com/articles/863000-chrysler-dodge-and-jeep-vehicles-recall-alert-1420757576994/ I searched our vin# on your website and it showed no recalls. Is Chrysler Fiat dragging this out or are we going to be able to get this fixed at the dealership ? Please advise - Thanks.

I have had constant problems already reported with this vehicle. The transmission overheats and dies on me or gets sluggish on the highway traffic. Today it completely died on me. After pulling over giving a minute it started back up. Jeep should be ashamed of themselves. So many ppl are reporting this same issue. They need to recall these cheap poorly made transmisdionscthat they already no are faulty. MY TEENAGE DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING MY JEEP AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE JEEP SLOWED DOWN AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AND SHE BARELY HAD ENOUGH TIME TO PULL OVER ON THE SIDE OF A 2 LANE HIGHWAY. SHE BARELY HAD CELL PHONE SIGNAL TO CALL ME TO TELL ME SHE WAS STRANDED. SHE WAS IN A DEAD ZONE BY AIR FORCE BASE AND WAS GOING ABOUT 45MPH DURING HEAVY TRAFFIC HOUR. I'M GLAD SHE WAS UNDERSTOOD SOMETHING WAS WRONG AND QUICKLY PUT ON HAZARD LIGHTS, PULL OVER, AND SHUT OFF THE JEEP. SHE MENTIONED A LIGHTING BOLT LIGHT ON BUT DIDN'T FEEL THE JEEP WAS OVER HEATING. THE BEGINNING OF 2019 I HAD A RECALL FOR THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER EFFICIENCY WHICH I DID GET FIXED AND ABOUT 4 MONTHS LATER (5SEP19) I PURCHASED A NEW THROTTLE BODY SENSOR AND THE LABOR WORK TURNED OUT TO $800. WHY WOULD THIS NOT BE PART OF THE WARRANTY OR RECALL OR IS THIS A CONTINUING ISSUE FOR OTHER JEEPS?

WHILE DRIVING, CARS ENGINE SHUT OFF. I WOULD TRY TO START IT, SOMETIMES IT WOULD START BACK UP AGAIN I WOULD DRIVE IT AND THEN THE ENGINE WOULD SHUT OFF AND SLOWLY STOP MOVING. CAR WAS DIAGNOSED WITH THE ENGINE CODE P0335 AND P0339 CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR MALFUNCTION/INTERMITTENT. WITHIN THE SAME WEEK OF HAVING IT REPLACED, NOW I'M HAVING ISSUES FILLING THE TANK WITH GAS. GAS PUMP STOPS FILLING EVERY 0.2 GALLONS AND CLICKS. TRIED MOVING THE GAS PUMP IN DIFFERENT POSITIONS BUT STILL WON'T FILL. GAS ENDS UP BUBBLING AND OVERFLOWS EVEN THOUGH THE TANK IS ONLY AT A QUARTER TANK. LOOKS LIKE THIS IS VERY COMMON WITH JEEP COMPASSES. IT'S EITHER THE FUEL TANK TRANSFER TUBE OR NEED TO GET THE WHOLE GAS TANK REPLACED.

I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME WITHOUT ANOTHER INCIDENT.

A MONTH OR SO AFTER BUYING MY CAR (USED) IT STARTED TO STRUGGLE GOING UP HILL. AS TIME WENT ON THE STRUGGLE UPHILL TURNED INTO STALLING. THEN IT PROGRESSED TO EXTREME DIFFICULTY GETTING UP TO SPEED WHEN JUST GETTING ON THE FREEWAY. SOON IT STARTED TO OVER HEAT IF DRIVEN LONGER THAN AN HOUR. WITH ALL OF THE ISSUES PUT TOGETHER IT HA BECOME VERY STRESSFUL AND SCARY TO DRIVE. WE TOOK IT INTO THE MECHANIC AND HE DISCOVERED THE SMOOTH TRANSITION TRANSMISSION IS FAULTY AND CAUSES THE CAR TO OVERHEAT. HE SAID IT WAS A MATTER OF TIME UNTIL THE TRANSMISSION DROPS. I NO LONGER FEEL SAFE TAKING MY FAMILY ANYWHERE IN THE CAR. BETWEEN THE SLUGGISHNESS, STALLING, OVERHEATING AND TRANSMISSION MY CAR IS A TICKING TIME BOMB. IF ANY OF THIS HAPPENS ON THE FREEWAY MY FAMILY AND POSSIBLY OTHERS COULD GET SEVERELY INJURED. I HAVE LOOKED UP ONLINE AND FOUND MANY OTHERS HAVE THIS SAME ISSUE.

I PURCHASED MY COMPASS IN JUNE & 2 MONTHS LATER WITH MILEAGE BEING460 I TOOK A TRIP TO VIRGINIA FROM NJ 3 HOURS INTO THE TRIP DRIVING ON RTE 66 WHICH IS A VERY BUSY HIGHWAY 18 WHEELER TRUCKS FLYING BY. THE CAR SHUT DOWN & I PULL TO THE SIDE BUT THERE IS NO SHOULDER ON THAT HIGHWAY SO I WAS STUCK UP AGAINST A CEMENT WALL AROUND A BEND OF CARS FLYING BY BLARING THEIR HORNS AT ME. LUCKILY STATE TROOPERS WERE THERE ON THE OTHER SIDE FOR AN ACCIDENT THERE WAS SCREAMING AT US TO MOVE BECAUSE THAT WAS A VERY DANGEROUS SPOT TODAY WE YELLED BACK THE CAR WILL NOT START. ONE OF THE STATE TROOPERS PAIN BEHIND US WITH THEIR LIGHTS AND WE HAD TO WAIT ON A TOW TRUCK AND TAXI CAB FOR US TO GET TO THE HOTEL. THE VEHICLE WAS LEFT AT A SUNOCO STATION AS A CAB DROVE AROUND LOOKING FOR A HOTELAVAILABLE. THE NEXT MORNING WE WENT TO THE SUNOCO AND THEY SAID THE CAR STARTED AS SOON AS I GOT THERE THEY DID A DIAGNOSTIC AND NOTHING WAS WRONG. I DROVE THE CAR ANOTHER TWO AND A HALF HOURS TO MY DESTINATION AND WENT TO THE JEEP DEALER THERE. THEY KEPT THE CAR ALL DAY AND FOUND NOTHING WRONG BUT YET IT STALLED ON ME TWICE AND WOULD NOT RESTART. I WAS PETRIFIED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE BACK HOME WHICH WAS A SIX HOUR TRIP SO I HANDED IN THE COMPASS TO THE DEALER WHERE I HAD TRAVELED TO AND HAD TO PURCHASE A NEW VEHICLE AND COME OUT OF POCKET $5,000. I TRIED TO FIGHT THE DEALER THAT SOLD IT TO ME & BACK AND FORTH CHRYSLER CORP. THEY WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT THIS THEY DIDN'T EVEN OFFER TO PAY MY TOWING FEE OR MY HOTEL FEES. THEY DID NOT GIVE ME ANY TYPE OF CREDIT & I HAD PROOF OF EVERYTHING THAT HAD HAPPENED. NOW I SEE ALL THESE PEOPLE COMPLAINING OF THIS SITUATION. WE COULD'VE BEEN KILLED ON THAT HIGHWAY THAT HAD NO SHOULDER GOD WAS DEFINITELY WITH US. & THEIR REPRESENTATIVES AT JEEP DIDN'T EVEN CARE. I'M NOW A NERVOUS DRIVER & DO NOT LIKE TO TAKE ANY TRIPS. THIS EXPERIENCE HAS TOOK A TOLL ON MY LIFE.

AS I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE STREET TO THE GAS STATION, I HAD ABOUT HALF A TANK LEFT, THE CHECK BATTERY LIGHT WOULD COME ON AND MY CAR WOULD STALL OUT AS I WAS DRIVING. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE MY CAR NOW BECAUSE THIS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES IN JANUARY WHEN THE WEATHER WAS COLD AND IT HAD JUST RAINED, AND NOW IT IS HAPPENING AGAIN IN WARM, SUNNY WEATHER. I WAS LUCKY TO NOT GET IN AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE OTHER CARS WERE RIGHT BEHIND ME AS I WAS DRIVING. I WOULD TURN MY CAR OFF, TURN IT BACK ON AND IT WOULD START, AND THEN IT WOULD JUST SHUT DOWN AGAIN AFTER A FEW HUNDRED FEET. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THEY CAN'T FIX ANYTHING UNLESS WE CAN REPLICATE THE PROBLEM, BUT THEY COULDN'T. I DON'T WANT THIS TO HAPPEN TO ME AS I'M ON A HIGHWAY WHICH COULD CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY, SO I AM SCARED TO DRIVE MY CAR, WHICH I SHOULDN'T BE. *TR

THE FIRST INSTANCE OF THE VEHICLE SLOWING RAPIDLY WHEN LETTING UP ON THE GAS OCCURRED DURING RUSH HOUR ON A LOCAL PARKWAY. WHILE TRAVELLING WITH THE TRAFFIC, AT ABOUT 67 MPH, THE TRAFFIC AHEAD STARTED TO SLOW. RATHER THAN STEP ON THE BRAKE, I LIFTED MY FOOT FROM THE GAS PEDAL. ALMOST IMMEDIATELY THE CAR BEGAN TO QUICKLY DECELERATE. IT HAPPENED SO FAST THAT THE PERSON BEHIND ME ALMOST HIT ME. THEY PROCEDED TO GO AROUND ME AND PULLED ABRUPTLY IN FRONT OF ME AND BRAKED. HE MUST HAVE THOUGHT I DID IT INTENTIONALLY. THIS HAD BEEN HAPPENING AT SLOWER SPEEDS AND THE SERVICE PERSONNEL AT THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT I NEEDED TO DRIVE THE CAR MORE MILES AS THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. ONE TECH EVEN SAID THAT THIS IS THE WAY THE CVT WORKS AND I'D HAVE TO GET USED TO IT. A SIMILAR INCIDENT OCCURRED ON THE PARKWAY ABOUT A MONTH LATER. THIS TIME THE OUTCOME WASN'T AS SEVERE AS THE INITIAL OCCURRENCE. TRAFFIC WAS A LITTLE LIGHTER BUT MOVING JUST AS QUICKLY. I RETURNED TO THE DEALER FOR SERVICE AND THAT IS WHERE THE CAR IS NOW. THEY CANNOT DUPLICATE OR FIND ANY FAILURE CODES FOR THE PROBLEM. AGAIN, A NEW SERVICE ASSISTANT TOLD ME THAT THAT IS HOW THE CVT WORKS. I INFORMED HIM AS I HAD INFORMED THE OTHERS THAT I HAVE DRIVEN VEHICLES WITH THE CVT AND IT IS NOT HOW THEY WORK. HAVING BEEN A MECHANIC FOR A GOOD PART OF MY LIFE, I DARE SAY THAT I FEEL AS THOUGH I AM RISKING MINE WHEN DRIVING THIS VEHICLE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 JEEP COMPASS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN DRIVING 70 MPH AT HIGH ALTITUDE, THE VEHICLE WOULD STALLS BUT WHEN DRIVING IN LOWER ALTITUDES IT WOULD NOT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE A FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT A REPRESENTATIVE WOULD CONTACT HIM WITHIN A FEW DAYS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 12,000.

THE FIRST TIME, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT OFF I DROVE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND IT WAS CHECKED AND RETURNED, 2 WEEKS LATER THE LIGHT TURNED ON AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP, SOME OIL APPLIED TO THE CONNECTORS AND RETURNED. YESTERDAY, THE LIGHT WENT OFF AGAIN WHILE DRIVING AT 50MPH, THE VEHICLE STOPPED ABRUPTLY, THE STEERING WHEEL DIDN'T MOVE AND THE ENGINE STOPPED. UPON TRYING TO RESTART THE IGNITION, IT KEPT STARTING BY ITSELF OVER AND OVER. NOW YOU CAN'T ACCEL THE VEHICLE WHILE IN DRIVE. THE RIGHT STRUT WAS REPLACED ON FEB 2012 BECAUSE IT BROKE. *TR
