I have had problems with a hitch or pause in the acceleration of my 2012 Jeep Compass since at least April of last year. I purchased the vehicle used in January 2021. In and of itself, the hitch would be a minor thing, but I think it's related to other problems I'm having with the vehicle losing acceleration, which has become a real point of concern. This has occurred multiple times when I start accelerating from a stop, such as when I'm at an intersection. The car loses acceleration, the traction control light sometimes will come on, the steering will tighten up like I've lost power steering, and the car will come to a halt and stop idling. Nothing happens when I give it gas after it's stopped in these circumstances. I learned that if I turn the car off and back on, that will serve as a sort of reset, and I regain power and can get back on the road. The car has had active codes for a catalytic converter and a crankshaft position sensor. I replaced the crankshaft position sensor in April of last year (with an OEM sensor) after losing power while merging onto an interstate. That seemed to resolve the loss of acceleration problem, but it recurred starting in December of last year. I replaced the crankshaft position sensor again recently, this time with an aftermarket sensor, as I thought the sensor I put in previously may have been defective, but the problem has started occurring more frequently. Losing power while turning into or crossing intersections is a scary thing, and I've begun to feel I cannot drive the car safely. I've read accounts online of many Jeep Compass owners having problems with losing acceleration, and I've begun to suspect that the problem is not simply related to the parts associated with the active codes. The sad thing is that I just finished paying off the loan I took out for this car, and I have little extra money. I don't know what I'm going to do. Please investigate these vehicles (problem affects various Compass model years).
Everytime I drive it acts as if it’s not getting sufficient fuel to the engine . Have had multiple things replaced to try and fix the problem but still not helped . Whole Engine sputters when I stop and acts as if it’s not getting any fuel to accelerate. Has almost caused a few crashes . To my surprise recalls have been made for my vehicle but says they have been repaired. I personally don’t think they have
The vehicle just went through an inspection with the dealership before being sold to me. The vehicle is stalling when making turns and driving. There are no warning lights, there is a full tank of gas, no warning of it going to happen and it just stalls. The Jeep stalled at an intersection, stalled driving through a parking lot and again today stalled turning from an intersection. It almost caused me to get rear ended in an accident. Luckily they did not but that was scary enough for me to check for recalls and to my surprise there is for my year and type but not my VIN, my vehicle was manufactured April 2012, does not have high miles and should not be having these issues.
My Coils had to be replaced several times. Last week I started to drive my car on a major road, shaking and no power. My car had to be towed once again. My mechanic told me the Jeeps have issues with the Coils. Not sure why this keeps happening but now It's scary to drive my vehicle and not knowing how quick this happens again. Recently my check engine light came on and off, changed the fuel gas cap, and had a code read. My mechanic mentioned that there was a safety recall regarding the manifold ? if so was this ever done and where I would like documents provided. The catalytic converter is failing on this vehicle. The vehicle had been maintained pre manufacturer specifications. Check engine light came on without warning. Crank shaft and cam shaft sensor both Failed on vehicle and had to be replaced. All bearing had to be replaced. Two of which were fixed before 60,000 miles. Hood rusted completely through. Cross members are rusting through.
When driving the vehicle will hesitate then stall after refueling. Happen after almost every refueling case. Believe it is a stuck rollover valve that is allowing gas to enter vent lines and causing the stall. When accelerating the vehicle suddenly dies and there is a complete loss of all systems. No power steering to help get off the side of the road. Often there are no Check Engine Lights or other warnings. Obviously if your engine suddenly dies when accelerating this can cause major safety concerns. I had this happen 3 times while trying to merge onto an interstate. Thankfully I was in the right lane and able to get off to the shoulder and avoid an accident. Have not had a mechanic verify but it is a very common problem with these vehicles and the manufacturer needs to address this.
I've recently out of the blue developed problems with my car. For some reason it want crank ( 2), air-conditioner making popping noise as well stopped working, and it also jerks shortly after cranking ( like a hiccup. Please let me know something as quickly as possible if my vehicle has any recalls. I would highly appreciate it.

I HAVE A 2012 JEEP COMPASS 4 X 4 AND WHEN ATTEMPTING TO FUEL THE VEHICLE THE FUEL PUMP NOZZLE WILL NOT STAY LOCKED IN TO PUMP FUEL UNTIL FULL. TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD IT WAS THE ROLL OVER VALVE IN THE FUEL TANK WAS STUCK AND THAT THE FUEL TANK WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. I READ ABOUT THE SAFETY RECALL NHTSA # M11 AND M14 WHICH STATED THAT 2012 JEEP COMPASS AND PATRIOT PRODUCED BETWEEN 12/17/2011 AND 01/02/2012 HAD DAMAGED ROLL OVER VALVES INSTALLED IN THE TANKS AND WHERE SUBJECT TO THE RECALL. THE COMPLAINT I HAVE IS MY VEHICLE WHICH WAS PRODUCED ON 4/12/2012 HAS THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM BUT WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL.

WHEN PUTTING FUEL IN THE GAS TANK, THE PUMP WILL KICK OFF AND FUEL WILL SPLASH OUT ON YOU. YOU HAVE TO HOLD THE NOZZLE AND JUST LET THE FUEL TRICKLE IN. IT DOES NOT MATTER THE ANGLE OF NOZZLE OR HOW FAR IN OR OUT IT IS. IT WILL CUI OFF AT ANY TIME USUALLY AT A HALF A GALLON. YOU THEN HAVE TO HOLD IT AND TRICKLE THE GAS IN WHICH DEPENDING ON HOW MUCH FUEL YOU NEED IT CAN TAKE 45 PLUS MINUTES. THE BACK SPLASH WILL GET ON YOUR HAND AND CLOTHES .I HAVE TO WEAR A RUBBER GLOVE,AND HAVE HAD TO TAKE MY SHOES OFF AND PUT IN PLASTIC BAG,AS WELL AS GO CHANGE CLOTHES.THIS IS NOT SAFE NOR IS IT NORMAL AS A LOT OF JEEP OWNERS ARE HAVING SAME PROBLEM.

THE CONTACT REPOSITIONED THE NOZZLE AND WAS ABLE TO COMPLETE FILLING THE FUEL TANK. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BRANDYWINE CHRYSLER JEEP DODGE RAM LOCATED AT (3807 KIRKWOOD HWY, WILMINGTON, DE 19808 (302) 998-2271) WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED, AND IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE FUEL TANK ASSEMBLY WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE THEN WAS THEN TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED AND CONFIRMED THAT THE FUEL TANK ASSEMBLY WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 12V142000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE) AS A POSSIBLE SOLUTION TO THE FAILURE HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. GAS TANK IS NOT FILLING PROPERLY AND IS GURGLING WHEN FILLED. KNOWN RECALL ALREADY PUBLISHED BUT FOR SOME REASON IT IS NOT BEING ASSOCIATED WITH MY VIN.
UNABLE TO FUEL VEHICLE. GASOLINE REFUEL STOPS AFTER 1/4 GALLON IS PUMPED. GAS SPRAYS BACK ON PERSON FILLING IF YOU ARE NOT EXPECTING THE SPLASH. JEEP INDICATES THAT THIS VEHICLE IS NOT COVERED UNDER RECALL M11, AS IT WAS BUILT ON FEB 1, 2012 AND THE WINDOW FOR RECALL WAS DECEMBER 20, 2011 THROUGH JANUARY 5, 2012. ACCORDING TO THE VIN, MY VEHICLE IS WITHIN 200 VEHICLES OF THE RECALL. JEEP IS REPLACING MY GAS TANK AS A COST OF OVER $1500.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO HOLDEN JEEP CHRYSLER (640 S GOVERNORS AVE, DOVER, DE 19904) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS A DEFECTIVE EVAPORATIVE SYSTEM INTEGRITY MODULE THAT NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT A NEW FUEL TANK WAS NEEDED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AGAIN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THAT THIS JEEP HAS NOT LET ME ACCELERATE IN HWY TRAFFIC. OVER 40 MPH AND THEN JUST DIES ON ME.. THE TRANSMISSION OVERHEAT LIGHT COMES ON AND I CANT DRIVE BECAUSE IT DIES SHORTLY AFTER THAT.. I THINKING THERE IS POSSIBLE AN UPCOMING VEHICLE RECALL FOR TRANSMISSION.. WHILE DRIVING, CARS ENGINE SHUT OFF. I WOULD TRY TO START IT, SOMETIMES IT WOULD START BACK UP AGAIN I WOULD DRIVE IT AND THEN THE ENGINE WOULD SHUT OFF AND SLOWLY STOP MOVING. CAR WAS DIAGNOSED WITH THE ENGINE CODE P0335 AND P0339 CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR MALFUNCTION/INTERMITTENT. WITHIN THE SAME WEEK OF HAVING IT REPLACED, NOW I'M HAVING ISSUES FILLING THE TANK WITH GAS. GAS PUMP STOPS FILLING EVERY 0.2 GALLONS AND CLICKS. TRIED MOVING THE GAS PUMP IN DIFFERENT POSITIONS BUT STILL WON'T FILL. GAS ENDS UP BUBBLING AND OVERFLOWS EVEN THOUGH THE TANK IS ONLY AT A QUARTER TANK. LOOKS LIKE THIS IS VERY COMMON WITH JEEP COMPASSES. IT'S EITHER THE FUEL TANK TRANSFER TUBE OR NEED TO GET THE WHOLE GAS TANK REPLACED.

UPON DOING A TOTAL FILL UP OUR JEEP, IT IS NOW STALLING AND I END UP WITH NO STEERING. THIS DOES IT AT LEAST 4/5 TIMES EACH TIME WE FILL FUEL TANK UP. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AS UNABLE TO STEER AND ENTIRE ENGINE SHUTS DONE. THIS HAS DONE THIS WITH MY FAMILY IN THE CAR ABOUT A MINUTE AFTER GETTING FUEL, IF NOT LESS, AND TURNING ONTO A BUSY STREET WHERE JEEP STOPPED RUNNING. THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION WHEN THIS HAPPENED, BOTH TURNING ONTO BUSY STREET AND WHILST DRIVING ON BUSY STREET.

FUEL SYSTEM RELAY: THE FUEL SYSTEM RELAY WITHIN THE TIPM BECAME CORRODED AND THE CAR WILL NO LONGER START. HAD TO GET IT TOWED TO THE DEALER AND FACING A $500 REPAIR CHARGE NOW FOR SOMETHING COMPLETELY IRRELEVANT TO USE. THIS IS THE EXACT SAME ISSUE SEVERAL OTHER COMPASS DRIVERS ARE FACING. CHRYSLER DID NOT INCLUDE THIS VEHICLE IN THEIR RECALL FOR THE SAME ISSUE (ONLY CHEROKEE'S AND DODGE DURANGO'S WERE INCLUDED).

2012 JEEP COMPASS CHECK BALL ISSUE I HAVE A 2012 JEEP COMPASS WITH 59,000 MILES ON IT. DURING A FUEL STOP TWO WEEKS AGO, I DISCOVERED THE NOZZLE WOULD SHUT OFF AFTER FUELING FOR A FEW SECONDS. TO ENSURE IT WASN'T THE NOZZLE AT THE FUEL PUMP, I TRIED 3 OTHER PUMPS AT DIFFERENT GAS STATIONS. SO, I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN TO THE DEALERSHIP TO GET A DIAGNOSIS. THE MECHANIC SAID THE CHECK BALL VALVE IN THE FUEL TANK IS STUCK AND THE ONLY WAY TO HAVE THIS ISSUE REPAIRED IS TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE FUEL TANK. THE TOTAL COST WITH THE NEW FUEL TANK AND LABOR WILL BE $1,600. JUST TO HAVE A SECOND OPINION, I TOOK IT TO A WELL RESPECTED LOCAL MECHANIC IN MY TOWN AND HE TOLD ME THE SAME THING. I KNOW THE SMALLER JEEPS, LIKE THE COMPASS, HAVE HAD FUEL TANK RECALLS IN THE PAST BECAUSE OF VENTILATION ISSUES AND THE ROLL OVER VALVES. THERE WERE A LOT OF PEOPLE ON JEEP FORUMS COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS. SOME FOLKS WERE ELIGIBLE FOR RECALLS AND SOME WERE NOT. THE OTHER FUEL TANK ISSUE I READ ABOUT WAS THE ISSUE I AM HAVING WITH THE CHECK BALL BEING STUCK AND HAVING TO PAY FOR A NEW FUEL TANK. PERSONALLY, I THINK IT IS RIDICULOUS AND I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE, THAT A PERSON HAS TO PAY TO HAVE AN ENTIRE NEW FUEL TANK INSTALLED BECAUSE A COMPANY IS MANUFACTURING VEHICLES WITH DEFECTIVE FUEL TANKS. SO, WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I DRIVE A HUNDRED MILES AND THE NEW FUEL TANK CHECK BALL GETS STUCK? DO I HAVE TO GO BACK TO THE MECHANIC, PAY $1,600 AND HAVE THIS PERSON INSTALL A NEW TANK EVERY TIME THE CHECK BALL GETS STUCK? IT'S SENSELESS THAT THE CONSUMER HAS TO WORRY ABOUT A VEHICLE'S UNRELIABILITY BECAUSE OF A MANUFACTURER'S FLAW AND THE COMPANY NOT DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT. I CALLED JEEP CORPORATE AND THEY SAID THEY CAN'T DO ANYTHING TO HELP ME. I WANTED TO LET THE NHTSA KNOW THAT THE FCA CAR COMPANY IS CONTINUING TO SEND FLAWED PRODUCTS OUT THE DOORS OF THEIR FACTORIES AND IGNORING THE ISSUE.

MANY OF THESE VEHICLES HAVE A PROBLEM WITH A ROLL OVER VALVE, RECALL NHTSA 12V14200, THE TANK NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. MY VEHICLE HAS THE SAME PROBLEM. IT DOES NOT ALLOW ME TO PUMP GAS PROPERLY DUE TO A DAMAGED ROLLOVER VALVE AS STATED BY MY MECHANIC. HOWEVER, MY VEHICLE IS NOT INCLUDED IN TE RECALL. IT SHOULD BE INCLUDED AND I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO PAY FOR IT. FILES CAN BE UPLOADED BY REQUEST. RESEARCHED THE INTERNET AND MANY OTHER JEEP COMPASS VEHICLES HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM.

THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN TO THE DEALER THREE TIMES FOR THE SAME PROBLEM AFTER DRIVING THE CAR AND THEN STOPPING.WHEN YOU RESTART THE VEHICLE AND GO TO PUSH THE GAS IT STALLS LAST TIME WAS WHEN ENTERING TRAFFIC AND IT QUIT ON THREE OCCASIONS .I HAD TO GO AND RESCUE MY WIFE FROM A POTENTIAL SERIOUS SITUATION.THE DEALER HAS HAD THIS VEHICLE FOR OVER A WEEK NOW AND CAN NOT FIND ANYTHING ON THE COMPUTER THAT TELLS THEM WHAT TO LOOK AT . THE FIRST TIME THEY GAVE IT BACK TO US AND SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH IT.THIS TIME I HAVE STILL NOT HEARD OF A RESOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM. AS I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT 70 MPH AND THE GAS GAUGE SHOWING 1/4 OF A TANK LEFT, THE ENGINE SUDDENLY QUIT. IT WOULD RESTART. AFTER PUTTING SOME GAS IN IT STARTED IMMEDIATELY. SINCE THEN, AND BEFORE, I HAVE LET THE LEVEL RUN DOWN WELL BELOW A 1/4 OF A TANK WITH NO INCIDENT. MY CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY, BUT I CALLED JEEP BECAUSE THIS SCENARIO IS EXACTLY WHAT WAS DESCRIBED IN THE RECALL NOTICE I RECEIVED A YEAR OR SO AGO, WHICH SAID THAT AT HIGH SUSTAINED SPEED A FUEL INTAKE HOSE IN THE GAS TANK COULD COLLAPSE, RESULTING IN THE ENGINE TURNING OFF SUDDENLY AND A POSSIBLE CATASTROPHIC ACCIDENT. I HAD THE RECALL PROCEDURE COMPLETED BUT I DID NOT TAKE ANY LONG TRIPS UNTIL THE DAY THE INCIDENT OCCURRED. THE JEEP RECALL SPECIALIST TOLD ME TO TAKE THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER TO HAVE IT CHECKED OUT. THE DEALER TOLD ME IF THEY DIDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG IT WOULD COST $99 FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTS. I ASKED IF THEY WOULD REMOVE THE FUEL TANK TO CHECK THE HOSE AND THEY SAID NO I DID NOT LEAVE THE CAR BECAUSE I DIDN'T THINK THEY WOULD BE ABLE TO FIND THE PROBLEM, OR DUPLICATE IT. I CALLED JEEP AGAIN; THEY CALLED THE DEALER WHILE I WAS ON THE LINE AND ASKED THEM TO LOOK AT THE CAR AGAIN. WHEN I TOOK IT BACK I WAS TOLD THE SAME THING; THAT IF THEY COULDN'T DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM IT WOULD COST ME $99. THEY THEN ADVISED ME TO TRY TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM AGAIN, MYSELF, BY DRIVING THE CAR ON THE INTERSTATE UNTIL IT QUIT, AND THEN HAVE IT TOWED TO THE NEAREST DEALER. I COULDN'T BELIEVE I WAS HEARING THAT SO I CALLED THE JEEP RECALL DEPARTMENT AGAIN, AND AFTER SOME CONFERRING WITH OTHER PEOPLE THERE, THE SPECIALIST TOLD ME THAT YES, THIS IS WHAT I NEEDED TO DO; DRIVE THE CAR UNTIL IT QUITS. I WAS ON A ROAD TRIP IN MY 2012 JEEP COMPASS (4X4 LATITUDE VERSION) FROM THE NASHVILLE, TN AREA TO THE WASHINGTON D.C. AREA, IN AUGUST, AND WAS MONITORING MY FUEL CONSUMPTION ON THE TRIP. I NOTED MY FUEL GAUGE HAD BEEN TELLING ME THAT AT THE FIRST HALF OF THE GAS TANK I HAD BEEN GETTING AROUND 210 MILES OUT OF THAT FIRST HALF OF THE TANK. MY SECOND HALF OF THE TANK ONLY GAVE ME AROUND 90 MILES TO THE HALF TANK, WITH ABOUT A GALLON AND A HALF REMAINING IN THE TANK WHEN I REFUELED. THIS IS NEARLY 100 MILE DIFFERENCE IN MILEAGE BETWEEN THE TWO MEASUREMENTS, ON AVERAGE, FOR HIGHWAY DRIVING CONDITIONS. THE ISSUE CONTINUES TO THIS DAY. *TR
