Check engine lights came on, and then a warning saying stop safely, the engine will shut down soon, now it will not start. Leaving me stranded. This happened twice, but now the car won’t start and will need to be towed. I have asked several repair shops and done research online, and nobody knows how to fix this issue.
Warning lamp:"stop safely. vehicle will shut off soon" the car will shut off while driving. The warning is not sufficient enough to ignore that fairly new cars are shutting down on the road for no reason. There are numerous complaints about this same issue and I am wondering what is it going to take for jeep to take accountability and fix this. We should not have to pay for this repair. Resolution unknown. We are supposed to guess. No information is offered through a diagnostic check. As you can see this vehicle has 46,000 miles on it. Regular maintenance. Serviced at the dealer numerous times.
-Infotainment/Radio failure. Not available for inspection: its whereabouts are unknown to this driver-has been given to Jeep/Mopar. -Backup camera intermittently working: Would freeze up while the car was actively in reverse. While driving (vehicle in forward) backup camera would turn on & show footage of the car in reverse from much earlier in the day (>7 minutes have passed since reversing the car). Safety risk to self/others as the back up camera was inoperable while in reverse. -Radio remained on despite the car being off, driver & passenger entering & exiting multiple times, locking/unlocking the car, etc. It stayed on 18 minutes before this driver shut it off manually. Safety risk to self/others as the car battery was at risk of being drained despite the car being off. -Problem was diagnosed & radio replaced by Jeep dealership. -No inspection by police or insurance. Radio was replaced before it could produce real safety events -No warnings available/applicable. Problem began intermittently & then became a daily issue.
The infotainment screen is delaminating, which seems to be an extremely common issue in this model year along with other models and years that use the same screen. The delaminating causes numerous issues including poor visibility and ghost touches on the screen which can easily distract the driver as their radio changes stations randomly, messes with the navigation, adjusts the fans, and many other functions that are controlled with the screen. As of right now, I have not brought the car into the dealership specifically for this issue as so many other individuals are reporting the same problem in numerous forums.
MAIN ISSUE 1) My 2018 jeep compass has a very high coolant temperature issue, temperature will exceed 256 also transmission temperatures will exceed 210 My dashboard coolant icon appears and says COOLANT TEMPERATURE TOO HIGH POWER ENGINE OFF ISSUE 2) A! On off power option THE PERSON WHO INVENTED THE POWER ON / OFF A! OPTION NEED TO BR SERVING A LIFE SENTENCE IN PRISON, this “energy efficientoption”option will destroy your vehicle engine , battery, the starter, even my sensor system indefinitely, this has completely disabled all power to my jeep in the middle of I75 interstate with my 3 kids all under 10 45 minutes away from home , could not control a single all power was disabled I could not even power my engine off . I’ve never been so afraid for my kids and I , this could have caused a horrible accident that could have claimed us all , it was all caused by the ON/OFF feature,
Hello,2018 jeep compass 4x4 with 35,000 miles. Backup camera screen half blacked out, can't use features without or see. Many of these jeep screen radios are defective and should be recalled at 900. Also sway bar links are weak,broke two times. Should be recalled do to plastic like part and for a front end that is disgusting. Are these being investigated?
The vehicle backup camera has never worked reliably since we purchased the vehicle. It will work intermittently but lately for the last several weeks, the backup camera does not come on at all, ever. The dealership is saying we'd have to bring it in for a several hundred dollar assessment on how much it might cost to fix it and doing research online it could be hundreds into well over $1,000. We could install an aftermarket camera significantly cheaper, but since the vehicle has one in its system, it should freaking work!
When my oil gets low, my car shuts off in the middle of the highway. Also, when I turn my wheels, it's making a very loud clicking noise.
Car is equipped with a backup camera, but unfortunately, the infotainment screen is failing, and the rearview camera is distorted and unable to provide clear rear visibility. This is a common problem with these, and I suspect it is a failed cooling fan for the infotainment unit. It is only a matter of time that the screen will be a complete failure and hopefully not during a reversing evolution. My vehicle only has 60k miles. I have not taken it to the dealer because I do not have another vehicle to drive if this is in the shop for 2 weeks just to be inspected. Feel free to investigate my vehicle for this issue.

My 2018 Jeep Compass has an oil pump issue it seems. I read about previous scenarios and forums that had issues with this vehicle like mine. I would drive the vehicle and not within 5 minutes it will turn off half way down the road in the middle of an intersection that could have caused the lives of others and my child and myself. This vehicle is not safe at all! I have contacted and informed the dealership on multiple times about this issue.
Unknown but the vehicle only has 30,000 miles and the back up camera is mostly blacked out. I feel is is a safety concern Jeep isn't fixing even out of warrenty or acknowledging. After reading numerous forums on this problem, there are quite a few yr models that are affected. The cost to replace a screen is so much. Also the u joints went bad and the dealer said it's a flaw also and I paid to have replaced under 30,000 miles. I took my vehicle to a dealership for diagnostic and was told the lower control arm in front is making noise. They want over $700 for labor alone. I looked up the issue online and saw a recall but my vin isn't on the list so they won't fix it. Please add my vin because the issue is apparent
My start-stop system engaged while I was in a turning lane at a traffic light and turned my engine off. When the light turned green, I lifted my foot off the brake and the vehicle attempted to restart but stalled. My emergency parking break engaged and multiple service lights appeared on my dash including: service transmission, service engine, service traction control, service emergency breaking system, service start-stop system. I tried to restart my vehicle using the push-start button but it would not start my engine. I turned on my hazards and sat there for a moment as other drivers were forced to go around me. Minutes later I turned the vehicle off and tried to restart it again and my engine started up this time. I started to drive but noticed the power behind the gas pedal was reduced, luckily I was only minutes from work. A few hours later when I started my vehicle, only the engine light and “service stop-start system” were on. 12 hours later, when I left work, only the “service stop-start system” was on.
The touchscreen lcd on my jeep compass is glitching and no longer usable I am unable to access certain features that includes my radio and also the backup camera no longer works. This is a safety concern because the whole reason I bought this car was for the use of the backup screen and to set up music with Bluetooth. I am now risking my life every time I get into the car and the colorful glitching lines on the screen are a distraction while I drive.

August 14, 2024 - The vehicle stalled while driving. It restarted 30 minutes later and was taken to the Helfman Dodge Chrysler Jeep RAM Fiat for service. The diagnosis did not indicate any issues. September 13, 2024 - Vehicle stalled. The engine could not start. To be towed to a service station.
A few months ago my jeep started giving a "stop safely vehicle will shut off soon" message on the dashboard. It comes and goes randomly, I could be started the car or driving it. I had to get it towed when it did it on the highway. The dealership said it was the batteries, we had those replaced. It was fine for about a week and then started doing it again. Took it again and now they are saying it is the alternator or the starter. Both of those were checked and it isn't that either. I now have a car that I am paying for and can not drive. Called Jeep customer service, they could not find a solution. Multiple people on multiple different forums are complaining about this same issue without being able to find a solution.
When driving the electronic emergency brake self engages thus causing the car to come to an abrupt stop. You will need to turn the car off and on again to dis-engage the brake. This has happened sever times both on the highway and local streets.
Screen is not turning on. It is always problem to drive on reverse while on a parking places. Since back window is kind of small size, it is always hard to drive back and observe surrounding space by using just only rear view mirrors and back window. Camera view on a screen would help. But screen doesn't work. I've been in situation where I almost hit cars while moving on reverse. Thanks real axident didn't happen yet. But I really need this screen to work. Without it I cannot set/reset time, day, Bluetooth etc.

Navigation screen has a bubble internally. It turn on automatically connects with phones that are synchronized and starts calling. In my case it has called sos, random numbers it will not allow the phone to hang up while driving and it will not turn off just by pushing the button when it’s making a call. It has become such an issue and safety concern. It has taken my attention while driving on highways and we have had many instances where an accident almost happened because of it. There are many other people out there with the same issue and this is not caused by wear and tear but manufacture defects
Since 2023, my vehicle has had water leakage coming from the back right passenger side from the seat belt opening and right side of the back trunk. This is a major concern because my son’s car seat is seated on the right back seat where the water leakage is coming from. I don’t want any mold to grow under his car seat or on his car seat. Also I gave jumper cables in the back of my trunk for safety. What if they were to get soak and wet then they are not able to work. Also I put my groceries in the trunk of my car. I don’t want them to get spoiled or become contaminated.
"Coolant Temperature High" warning occur frequently at any situation doesn't matter time or weather. Especially when waiting at a cross section for green light or turning. It shut off the car once on the high way, lucky I was not injured. The problem started more than a year ago. I brought it to the dealer and they ran a thousand of test but could not diagnose the issue. They told me they may have to dissemble the car to find the root cause and returned the car to me, asked me to try to keep driving. After that the problem seemed disappear but it came up again a week ago.
I purchased the vehicle on [XXX] from Mall Chevy in Cherry Hill NJ. From the first day, i was getting an intermittent A! warning for the vehicle start/stop function. The vehicle would feel like it is trying to turn off when not active. Finally on [XXX], it stayed on. The entire time i have been trying to get the dealership to fix it, they refused to look at it. The transmission keeps slipping, jerking forward and back, wants to take off at a stop. They refuse to acknowledge. I finally took it to Performance Dodge in Woodbury NJ, they determined it was a defective IBS( Intelligent battery sensor). Then a BCM issue was determined and 2 wires had insulation exposed, an OHMED was needed as well as HVAC and DTCM updates. It still needs ABS and TCM module work. While driving I often get an oil warning light and have had my engine system entirely and randomly shut down while driving. I have the oil changed regularly and serviced regularly and still have this problem. The entire system shuts down while driving and I’m left unable to move. It’s incredibly dangerous!
My Radio has formed a bubble in it which is causing it to glitch and my backup camera to malfunction when driving and backing up I hit my fence because my radio glitched and keep having to replace the auxiliary battery in my jeep it’s been replaced several times
Burning through oil! No light on for oil and not to mileage for oil change. Happened to check oil this morning and there was only a tiny bit on stick like hardly any. This is not the only issue with this vehicle.
My car has completely shut off at an intersection/stop light twice. Shuts off while in drive tells me I need to start again. Emergency brake engages. One of the times I had to be towed out of the intersection. I spent $500 replacing both batteries thinking it may be that. A month later (today) car strands me at a stoplight again. Same thing car cuts off and emergency brakes engages. This time after 4 attempts I was finally able to start it to get out of way of traffic’s.
Car randomly shuts off while driving regardless of speed
My car has "overheated" over 20 times since I purchased this vehicle in November 2022. The "High Coolant Temperature" warning comes on, the temperature gage goes all the way up, the check engine light comes on along with the "lighting bolt" red symbol. This causes my vehicle to shut down. I have to put it into park, press the button to restart. Sometimes it takes several tries to get it to start again. I have been in almost 4 accidents because of this. Other times it happens when the automatic start re-engages at a stop light. It has happened while I am in my garage and it has been sitting overnight. It has happened while driving for 10 minutes, hours, etc. I have taken this into the dealership several times and they have not been able to find any codes or issues. At one point the dealership had my vehicle for 2 weeks trying to duplicate the issue to no avail. It comes and goes so quickly I have only been able to get a picture of the warning lights but not the high coolant temperature warning. This is a huge safety issue.
Jeep Compass shut off without warning at highway speeds, in the middle of highway route 1 while I was going 50 miles per hour. State police had to stay while I got car towed out of road hazards way. When this has happened, the vehicle was no longer able to accelerate, and the power steering did not work. Loss of power steering made the vehicle difficult to steer off the roadway to safety.
Head lights not working.
The vehicle just stopped functioning in the middle of me driving on a road with no shoulder, it spontaneously decelerated the gas did nothing, and ultimately rolled to a stop. I shut it off and it never restarted, the ignition button just made a terrible noise. I was left stranded in a bad service area no longer with the benefit of my car’s wifi because it wouldnt turn on.
I have notice for some time now that I have been getting oil changes done before my scheduled time. For example, I got my oil changed August 25, 2023, at 66403 mileages. According to the return for service sticker next service date is February 25, 2024, at 71403 mileages. The current mileage on my Jeep is 68599. My concern is not only I require frequent oil changes, but my check engine light is on, and my vehicle stops on me in on-going traffic. I take my Jeep into Griffin's Hub Chrysler Jeep Dodge S 27th Street Milwaukee. On August 25th I informed the 1st technician that my check engine light came on along with low oil/change oil light. He completed a code reader/car diagnostic. After the oil change, I spoke with service advisor Eric P who spoke with the previous tech regarding the diagnostic. I was scheduled to come back in on 9/7 due to a recall issue with check engine light and low oil pressure but when I returned on 9/7 the check engine light was off therefore showing nothing was wrong. I'm concerned because I'm having oil changes before scheduled mileage & service time. This has happened numerous times. I'm concerned because of the check engine/low oil/check oil lights are all coming on and more importantly I'm concerned because my vehicle stops in on-going traffic at any giving time which is extremely dangerous. I decided to reach out to the NHTSA during the recent incident for more assistance with this matter. I am thankful for not being on the expressway.
Car struggles to start, Dashboard shows coolant temperature high then does not start. Usually it will start again once battery is jumped. It has happened 3 times since August 2023. Unsafe because it happens unpredictability and has left me stranded with a child in the car. It cannot be reproduced because it cannot be predicted. It has happened in different weather each time and at different times of the day.
On 11/11/23 we were traveling the highway, center lane at approximately 65mph. The jeep just shut off and completely stopped. No warnings, no lights on. Car has gas, 1/2 tank, temp fine. It did start right back up but this was EXTREMELY dangerous as cars and semis traveling 70mph were swerving around both sides of us.
The screen for the radio and other function is not operable. Occasional glitches to work but has lines all over the screen or is completely blank. I am unable to see navigations or use majority of the functions for the climate controls at all. I have taken it to a Jeep dealership and they have advised needing a whole new replacement which is going to cost a little ove $1,000. I have searched online and see that this is a know issue for 2017-2022 models. This should not be our responsibly to pay for.
I was driving my 2018 jeep compass with my 5 month old, my car slowed down to a complete stop and said put in park while I’m driving, the D on the shift control kept blinking. As I put it in park in the middle of the road it still didn’t work, so I shut my car off and tried to restart it, it did nothing and then randomly started on its own 2 minutes later, after driving it, it happened again! I almost got in 2 car accidents in less then 20 min as I can not move it to the side of the road it just stops on me. This has happened once more the day after! No one can explain what my car is doing. But I’m afraid to drive it, and scared I’ll get in an accident or cause one because it’s already happened 3 times!
I have been having electrical issues with my vehicle for a while. I took it to get it checked at multiple places. I have been told about certain electrical issues the Jeep Compass has. i been told my starter, batteries, and/or alternator was or were the problems. i have replaced both of my batteries. One in which I replaced two times. I have also replaced my alternator and purchased a starter just in case that was the issue turns out the alternator wasn’t the issues. Now my vehicle isn’t cranking. I’m not sure if any of the safety recalls were fixed.
Multimedia screen began delaminating and causing SEVERAL issues, including attempting to call Emergency Services through the app while I was driving. This is an extremely common issues throughout the Jeep community with 2018 vehicles across many models. I drive a Compass but there have been Cherokees, Grand Cherokees, etc. with this same exact issue.
The car randomly turns off every few weeks. It usually happens when I’m stopped at an intersection and start to accelerate it just turns off. I have to put it in park and turn off the engine and restart it which seems to correct whatever happened. Not sure if any error messages come on the dash because I’m busy trying to restart the car and get out of the intersection.
My radio screen started to do phantom touches. Which is very distracting when it's turning on the heated seats, or turning the volume all the way up. It is being caused by delamination and is a known problem with jeep.
The rear view camera display stops working and only shows a black screen. I am unable to clearly see behind me when backing up. This is especially troublesome at night. I have taken the vehicle back to the dealer 6 times for repair. They have replaced the camera 4 times and adjusted the wiring 2 times. The camera still doesn’t work occasionally but I don’t take it back because the dealer told me it was no longer under warranty and I would have to pay for it. The only inspections were conducted at the dealership for repairs. There were no other indications of a problem until June 2020 when the screen only displayed black when the car was in reverse.
My Uconnect System came with the car. I purchased it in 2019 and by 2020 I noticed a bubble in my screen, 2021 I noticed it getting bigger I took it to the dealer they said nothing needs to be done and in 2022 it got worse and then they told me it’s out of warranty, in 2023 it’s completely delaminated and now I have no use for the entire system and now it is causing issues.
My car keeps jerking. I’m not over the line. My car keeps sounding like engine is revving or down shifting while I’m driving and I’m doing the same speed limit. I’ve taken it in multiply times for this. I’m told it is normal. I don’t believe it is. My interment panel will not show me anything except safety & assistance or display. When I go to display. I can only go to nav. Repetition. If I click ok. It shows on off ok to select or arrow to left to exit. Those are the only options on that on setting. and the only other setting offered is safety and assistance. The options there are buzzer volume, speed warning, and Hill start assist. Ok to select or left arrow.
I just purchased a 2018 Jeep Compass Limited and the car shuts off unexpectedly while driving. This is a serious safety hazard as the car gives no warning. Someone is going to get killed! As I was pulling my 2019 Jeep Compass Trailhawk to a light off the highway exit, the vehicle did its automatic stop the engine function. After about 4 seconds a "high coolant temp, shutdown vehicle" note appeared. The engine turned off and I lost complete control. The car would not move, e-brake engaged automatically, and the vehicle would not restart. 30 minutes later someone came by to jump start the battery and the car started. I was able to drive to a safe location but I am worried this problem will continue. There was no real explanation online and I have read countless accounts of the same problem happening to others, some while driving at high speeds.
When at a stop sign the car auto shut off. After releasing the break, the car would not restart and would not go into park. After a few minutes of panic, I was able to move the gear shifter to park and after several attempts, the car barely restarted. This also happened a previous time at a stop light.
The emergency brake lights up and engages randomly. This has happened several times while driving, causing the vehicle to slow to a stop, and requiring a restart.
My Jeep compass has shut down twice in the middle of an intersection. Once it took 5 mins for it to start. The other time it took an hour. When it shut down it would lock everything so you could t put it in neutral to push it
On April 9, 2023, May 19, 2023 June 4, 2023 and today June 7, 2023 as I was driving the car stopped without warning. In both insistence in June I was entering the highway and had to pull over. In the upper right of the dashboard where it states the operation (i.e R for for reserve, d for drive and etc) it changed from "RUN" to "On". I looked down and noticed the emergency parking brake was engaged. I looked at the dashboard and it gave instructions to push and deactivate the parking brakes. The car remained "On" however" I had to turn the car off and restart it. I have called for repair and they can not get to it until the end of June. I am VERY afraid to drive the car and do not have extra cash for a rental. This is my only vehicle and can not be off of work or do my care taking without a car. I only have 30, 000 miles on it as of last week. I have the Mopar warranty and wonder why I can't get a car that I can drive until they figure out what is wrong. It is extremely dangerous if I had gotten on the expressway. I have very concerned.
Standing still or moving the coolant Temp gauge goes up to H and turns Red, when this happens the vehicle instantly decelerates to approximately 5 mph. While on brake the car moves then and than immediately stops and I am unable to step on gas, when this happens i have to shut down and restart. This is extremely hazardous and can cause a collision when it slows down or shuts off. The dealer can not duplicate the problem. no warning prior to this happening.
As I accelerate the car while driving or from a start motion the car occasionally kicks back (jerks), causing me to immediately slow down to avoid the car from not stopping. It has never shut off, but I am concerned that it will while in moving traffic…I have noticed that cars behind me have stopped suddenly when my car jerks….feels like the back wheels are not moving for seconds but enough to cause an accident.
The touch screen is de laminating. Jeep wouldn't repair under warranty since car has been 1 year old. The delamination causes a driving risks as it turn on by itself, turns heat and air cond. on, makes it impossible to turn heated seats and heated steering wheel off during summer, and has even called 911 3 times while driving. This is definitely a safety issue. It's distracts the driver as the desalination act as the pressure point to turn on and off different systems while you are driving. You can't just pull over and turn the screen off , once it starts acting up it continuously turns itself back on.

Car turned off suddenly after idling at red light. "High coolant temp" warning light and others flashed briefly in dashboard. We could not move or start the engine at all. After about 2 minutes the car was able to be turned off and on and was driving normally without any dash warning lights, and we could not figure out the reason for this. It has happened before while idling.
What the dealer told me when I brought there for a recall! The my car need a new engine after they did that now they are saying is the transmission
Engine light comes on with a warning saying "Stop soon, Vehicle may shut off". A few times that light does not come on but the vehicle applied brakes while driving (5mph) on the road. Felt as if it put the parking brake on by itself. Engine light is still on now constantly saying to pull over. Dealer checked it out and re-grounded some wires but issue is still happening.
The auto start stop stopped working. My car overheated in May 2022 which I paid 900 dollars for repair. Also screen went out on Dec 2021. My car is in the shop now because it stopped on the freeway and the hot start/stop stops the car from moving.
On 2/6 I was driving down the road and my coolant tempature went from the middle all the way to high. My car turned off and locked up and then turned back on. This happened again on 2-9 and 2-13. The dealership said the electric, wires, coolant sensor, and coolant system were fine. There were no air bubbles, leaks or gas seeping into the coolant system.
My 2018 Jeep Compass started out having minor issues that I just blew off at first. First thing I noticed after purchasing it new was the cruise control wouldn't allow me to set speed. It only happened randomly, now its every other time the jeep starts up. Then my back up camera started going black. It worked more times than not. Well, time goes by and now the whole touch screen is black, or white lines, upside down, and sometimes just rolls then completely black. Another day, my oil change light came on, (2000 miles before it was due) and the parking brake engaged itself and cut off. It wouldn't start back up for about 3 mins. I checked the oil level and it was way below the oil pressure gauge. So i added oil and it seemed to fix the issue. Which brings us up to date until today, my car was sitting still in a parking lot for about 15 mins. All of a sudden the dash clutter turns red with the message Transmission needs service. I cut the jeep off and turned it back on and when reversing, it jumped and knocked really hard and when put in drive wouldn't accelerate above 30 mph. I pulled into auto zone and had them read the check engine light and the code said P1DD2-TORQUE request singal from TCM Denied. Most likely solution: REPROGRAM ELECTRONIC SHIFT MODULE (ESM) POWERTRAIN SYSTEM.
This vehicle just shuts off out of nowhere while driving. It seems like electronics turn off. You can no longer accelerate no matter how fast you were going which can easily cause an accident especially because it happens without warning. I’ve taken it to two different body shops and neither can find any problems at all after extensively checking the vehicle for hours and even days. After they check it the vehicle works for a few days and then without warning will stop while driving again.
I have almost crashed twice because my screen in my car flashes all these white lines ALL the time and even when I turn it off it will still do it and driving in the dark it blinds you randomly on a turn on the freeway and it’s dangerous I have found many people with he same car having the same problems and they try to make you pay an arm and a leg because it’s a wiring problem and you have to pay to replace the thing that holds the screen and whole front dash screen part because once it’s out on it’s stuck there it’s clearly a malfunction with the manufacturer and it is the screen that was originally built into the car. It starts out slow and does it very rarely and then just all the sudden goes awful. On the lower sections I put down around when the problem started and was as bad of a blinding
The touch screen continuously goes out flickers with lines across it. The touch is operational, but you can’t see anything. There is no other way to use these functions besides the screen and it is not visible.
The UConnect screen does not display images. You cannot see radio controls, temperature controls, etc. The screen is consistently showing bright white lines across the whole thing which is very distracting when driving at night. The main concern is not being able to use the back up camera. The car has quite a few blind spots, hence the need for a back up camera in order to safely reverse to insure you don’t injure a pedestrian or cause an accident. When I took it to the dealership, they said they’ve had many other cars with the same problem. However they are not figuring out what it is and their solution is instantly just installing a new screen for over $700.
Vehicle warning lights for Service 4wd, ABS and the A! with arrow flashed on. The vehicle lost the ability to accelerate while turning at the stop light. Coasted to side of the road. Powered Vehicle off then back on. Stop/Start error message flashed on screen "start/stop unavailable Service Stop/Start system" Oil and coolant levels are good. Only error message remains is the stop/Start system.
While driving on the highway or at a stop sign or signal light the car would stop and not start back and when driving on the highway it would stop just like that and takes a few minutes to restart causing backup traffic behind me. 12/6/2022 I took it to star Chrysler dealership on Jamaica avenue and I am still awaiting a diagnosis.my car has been doing this since before 11/14 when I first notified the dealership but nothing was done about it for over 2 weeks.
I purchased this vehicle in June 2021. Since purchasing the vehicle, I have had it in the dealership (Lia Jeep, Dodge, Ram in Colonie, NY) five times for the same problem. The vehicle hasn’t been repaired to date. The problem is that the temperature gauge will spike at random and the vehicle will stall out. It will restart after a period of time (usually minutes). If I keep the start/stop feature disengaged the problem is kept in check until the start/stop re-engages which it does on it’s own. I have had this (vehicle stalling out in traffic) to me too many times. It’s amazing that I haven’t been hit from behind. This vehicle has stalled out while I was in a round about and it has happened several time when I was exiting various places I do business with. If the dealership doesn’t get this resolved, I will be left with no other choice than to pursue New York Lemon Law.
My car will flash a "Coolant Temperature Too High" message, vehicle shuts itself down. There is no way it’s too hot and it is really unsafe for my car to just shut down.
My 2018 Jeep Compass, Limited stalls out as I am driving. The headlights have never worked and when they do work they are intermittent.
The Jeep started to get vertical lines in the 7 inch u connect screen. At first you could tap it and it would reset. Now, it is completely covered with vertical lines, the radio works, however the problem is the back camera does not show what is behind you due to the screen covered in vertical lines. It also does not show any information it is suppose to.
I was sitting at a stop light when the start/stop system fault warning indicator light came on. My vehicle cut off unbeknownst to me. Was unable to drive once the light changed. I had to activate my hazard lights so I could try to restart my vehicle. During the first try the vehicle did not restart it just stalled, however, it restarted during the second try. The start/stop system warning indicator light did not cut off and the light stayed illuminated. at . This was very scary and unsafe because I was at a traffic light at the bottom of an hill and it was raining which could been a high risk for an accident. I immediately called the dealership and scheduled an appointment for service.
The Uconnect screen has started delaminating. This issue causes the radio to jump from screen to screen and station to station. The delaminating also causes the radio to override any operator selections.
The vehicle’s touchscreen display has begun delaminating, causing “phantom touches” where the screen starts behaving erratically, as if someone were frantically touching multiple controls. This includes launching and closing apps, changing music, activating the phone and calling people, disabling/changing navigation, and more. There is no way to stop this once it starts, leaving the screen erratically changing and becoming extremely distracting while driving. This has nearly lead to several accidents on the road. This has happened several times since August of this year, growing progressively worse and more distracting over time. The system becomes effectively unusable and the degree of distraction when it occurs while on the road has only been increasing. This is a widely known issue with the Uconnect 8.4 model screens installed in Jeep, Dodge and other FAC marque vehicles. FAC refuses to do anything about it, as it tends to happen after the vehicles are past their standard warranty. I have attempted to communicate with them, however they refuse to help in any way and essentially have told me I’m on my own, much as they have with the thousands of others who have reported this issue with their Uconnect 8.4 systems. The issue is rooted in the adhesive used to hold the digitizer to the display, which begins to melt and seep down into the mounting brackets, separating the digitizer from the screen and forming what looks like air bubbles. FAC knows this, yet refuses to accept any responsibility.

My U-Connect Navigation system on my 2018 Jeep Compass is delaminating and ghosting. Unfortunately my air conditioning was changing from air to heat on a day when the temperature outside was 95 degrees. This is definitely a safety issue. Trying to get the air conditioning back on, I took my eyes off the road to change and ran off the road.
My Jeep has been stalling on me my oil lamp came on twice the day before i didn’t think anything of it because i needed a oil change anyway got the oil change car stalled at a red light my auto stop start came on after i shunt the car down and turned it back on now it’s stuck on
The stock radio is extremely hazardous. It started to delimite. It glitches all the time and takes my focus off the road. It randomly calls people, changes important settings such as safety features like the turn signal warning alerts and other functions. It changes the climate controls as well. I have to keep it off at all times due to the issues. There are lots and lots of other jeep/doge owners who have the same issues as I do. This needs to be recalled and taken care of for the safety of people and driving.
i have a rear view camera that went out 4 times during the warranty period , there is now 50K on jeep compass 2018 and camera is out completely, i am wondering if others are having this problem and why isn't this on a recall, thanks
Back Up camera says “check surroundings” but is a completely black screen. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t…… most of time it doesn’t work. Sometimes it stays on when I’m driving forward as well. With the amount of complaints online about the 2018 Jeep Compass camera issues…. There should be a recall as it’s a safety issue!
Jeep Compass auto start/stop system malfunction causes vehicle to stall upon stopping. This is a significant safety issue as the stalls have occurred when stopping on major highways and interstates and other roadways. Once the stall occurs the steps and duration of time required to restart the vehicle are inconsistent. My vehicle has done this several times this week and is only avoidable if I happen to remember to turn the auto start stop function off. There is no warning that the stall is about to occur. The engine in this vehicle also has been replaced due to high oil consumption causing the vehicle to stop at roadway speeds without warning. I also had to have a door hatch replaced that impacted the vehicles start/stop function as well.

Since it has warmed up and now summer, I can come out and the screen does not work. This cause a safety issue it’s many blind spots in the vehicle and hard to see when going in reverse! Also the car’s temperature control settings are in the screen. When this happens at night it causes a issue because its like a flashing with the black and other colors it does when the screen goes out. After leaving the freeway, my vehicle completely shut itself down without warning while in traffic. (The "Auto Off" feature was off, so that my car wouldn't shut off at a light.) The dash completely turned off as well as the console. When I attempted to restart it, 4WD service not available and a coolant over temp warning was displayed and showed the coolant temp was all the way at it's hottest. Even though the entire drive up to this point showed the vehicle was running at it's normal temperature. After a minute or 2, the vehicle finally started, after blocking traffic the entire time. Now the temperature was showing normal but now the "Auto Off" was disabled was showing on the dashboard. I pulled into a gas station and the vehicle did the same thing again. I opened the hood to find that nothing seemed out of the ordinary and no odd smells. The coolant wasn't bubbling out or going into the overflow. I again had difficulties trying to start the vehicle. Once it started, I took it to the dealership where they couldn't find any stored codes that related to the coolant system, but found a lot of codes that were related to the electrical system, like the pillar airbags had a code along with the taillights and some others I didn't recognize what they would be for.
uconnect 8.4 inch touchscreen is delaminating. This soon leads to software buttons being activated randomly, as I have read in blogs. This screen controls phone, navigation, electronic power to things like seat movement among many other features.

Many functions will just randomly turn on or not work at all. Dealer has been contacted and is aware of this issue. The component has not been inspected but a visual inspection and you can see the delamination from the screen. There are no warning messages from the vehicle but the many functions that are associated with the touch screen will just happen without touching because the screen is pulling apart. Great for the radio to turn up to full volume while driving or the a/c or heat to just turn on. How about that backup camera that sometimes will not work now. I've checked the web and noticed this is a problem with model year 2018 and possibly other years. Not a one time incident and seems to be happening to all models with the infotainment system. If it is not happening in a car yet it will.
On 3/19/2022 and on 3/21/2022 while at a stop sign went to make a right hand turn and my car stalled and emergency brake engaged by itself. Had to wait a couple minutes and finally car restarted. Both times the car stalled in roadway, not enough power to pull off road. My Car has 45000 miles and original paperwork says Oil Consumption recall, however the VIN search does not show that at all. Please help.
My vehicle frequently has a check engine light pop on. When it does the car slows to 10-15mph instantly and I am unable to use the gas at all. I have to pull over and turn the car off for a few minutes and turn it back on in order to be able to go. The check engine light never stays on for more than a day or two. It has happened multiple times since I purchased in November 2020 with the frequency increasing over the last few months. I am concerned that this is going to cause a serious accident.
Dealer had to replace motor cause of oil usage and motor tapping. And know its worse. They even done something to my steering or something plus runs like crud
The touchscreen laminate on the display is rapidly detaching from the screen. This causes a safety issue in distractions in the screen causing accidental calls, changed radio stations, and generally making any adjustments to the vehicle because of a faulty screen.
I purchased my 2018 Jeep Compass Limited as a certified pre-owned in late 2019 or early 2020. Late December 2021 I noticed that my infotainment screen looked strange so I began searching online and discovered the delamination known issue with the 2018 Jeep Compass screens. I took the car to the dealership that services it for me and they acted as though they had never heard of the issue (which I was certain wasn't true) before finally admitting they had "a couple" of these issues brought in. The only remedy according to them is for me to pay $1995.00 for a replacement. I am disabled and do not have that kind of money for the repair. A few short weeks later and now my backup camera isn't working at all, my screen randomly freezes up while driving or won't shut off when the car is turned off. My heated steering wheel gets blazing hot and won't turn off and the heat and AC randomly turn themselves on at full blast. I bought this particular vehicle Limited Edition because it had GPS, the backup camera and heated seats and steering wheel because I have severe arthritis and autoimmune issues that affect my joints and my vision. The heat helps my back and hands so I can drive. The camera was a great help in my being safe to back up as my peripheral vision is an issue. This defective part is a SAFETY issue! I don't feel safe driving the car because I cannot see to back up. I'm constantly having to focus on trying to correct the random issues with the screen controls instead of concentrating on my driving. It's dangerous and they need to issue a recall! Jeep is well aware of this issue.
The screen is out affecting an advertised safety feature with the backup camera not working. It is a known issue with the 2018 Jeep Compass yet they are not doing a recall. When I called into Jeep they continued to refer to it as a radio issue. I explained the entire screen is out and it affects the hands free feature, backup camera and as it is cold out now they have a feature where the heated steering wheel and heated seat turns on high when the vehicle starts automatically and with the screen out you have no way to turn it off. Long periods of time in the car get very uncomfortable and distracting with your seat and steering wheel very hot and unable to turn off. The screen just shows lines through it like an old TV when you did not get that station. Spoke with a few dealerships which also confirmed this is a known issue and they have had a lot of repairs. Jeep just confirmed it is still under review for a recall, hoping with more complaints it will assist with the recall going through as this is a $900 fix that was quoted to me and the vehicle has around 24,000 miles only.
My remote starter always has a problem. I turn it on it turns off. I have had the smart battery changed. There is always a notification stating pull over car will shut down soon. Then that activates the engine light to come on. Then the remote starter is deactivated. I turn off the car everything disappears like nothing happened a few minutes later I get the same notification pull over safely car will shut off soon.
My husband purchased me this car about three months ago and it has been nothing but hell for me. My car won’t stop swallowing oil. I had an oil change a month ago and I’ve already lost a little over half of the oil, and there’s no obvious oil leaks under the car. My tranny also won’t shift past a 45 minute drive. It shifts rough for the first half hour but after that it progressively gets worse by the minute. After 45 minutes it won’t go faster than 50ish mph and it makes a very loud humming sound when it tries to shift. It has a harder time driving through cities than on the highway, my car just won’t go. I’m trying to gather the money to get it fixed but times have been hard so I haven’t even been able to drive the car. It only has 39k miles on it and I spent over 30k for it so it’s super agitating. I’ve talked to other jeep owners and they’ve all complained about similar issues with the transmission
On September 3, 2021, my vehicle failed in the middle of the street without warning. The dash lights were on but the vehicle would not move. The engine light was also on. This happened in the turning lane in the middle of the street. There was no warning. When I pressed on the gas to go when the light changed is when I discovered that the car was inoperable. It had to be towed. My safety, as well as those driving on that road was put at risk because of how busy the street is regularly. In addition, at that intersection there are 4 lanes of traffic. In order for a diagnosis the dealership states that it needs to replace a fuse.
Screen delimitation, this is causing the the screen to act on its own. This is distracting to the driver to constantly try to fix the false inputs. This effects Bluetooth, climate controls, and other systems in the car.
About two years ago I noticed that my seat had a broken part. The power seat assembly had a broken place where it attaches to the actual seat. Finding the part to replace it is so expensive. I also purchased two new batteries running $400 plus from the dealership with the vehicle only being a few year old the batteries should last longer. The start stop on the car fails all the time and I barely am able to crank the car from the fob. Since purchasing this vehicle for $31,210. I am trying to reach the manufacture to see what they can do.
the backup camera is black sometimes when backing up, sometimes it works, sometimes it does not.
I have a 2018 Jeep Compass with a 8.4" Uconnect Infotainment system. I have owned the car since new. The infotainment system screen has started to de-laminate after only 3yrs. This is something you usually see in screens much, much older. While researching the issue at several user sites, I have found that the de-lamination of the screen is quite common among, Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep vehicles. I believe this is a defect in the build of the infotainment control head screen and, at minimum, the manufacturer should offer a one time repair to original owners, ans correct the defect in all future vehicles.

The park rear view camera stops working for long periods of time. Sometimes it even freezes the whole screen on a black screen.
While driving the jeep shuts off and then all lighys come on that are on the dash board. The jeep cannot be restarted nothing works. We have taken it to a dealer more then 5 times in less then 5 months. We replaced both batteries and still had the same issue few days later. they updated pcm module and few days later jeep shut off so the dealer replaced the pcm module. Jeep still ended up shutting off a few different time dealer said battery cable lose and maybe low oil but oil was good. We have been told by dealer they do not know what the issue is even after having a star tech look at the jeep. June 5th 2021 jeep was picked back up from dealer an is sitting in driveway because all light on an jeep oeeps shutting off its unsafe to drive.
Since the middle of last year (2020), the radio and back up camera have been completely glitchy. It started with the Favorites function not working with Sirius XM, then progressed to the screen freezing, not responding to any screen touches or knobs on the dashboard until eventually rebooting or staying on the back up camera picture until ultimately rebooting. Now I have both of those things and in addition, the back up camera will also turn to a blue screen and stay blue until it eventually reboots. I have taken this to the dealership MULTIPLE times. They have replaced the entire radio twice. They have done what they can to get the needed software updates. There is still no solution. This is making me hate my vehicle and I would like a solution before I trade it in for something different

A CAR GOING DOWN THE STREET AND SUDDENLY COMING TO A COMPLETE, UNINITIATED STOP IS EXTREMELY SCARY AND DANGEROUS. THE VEHICLE DASHBOARD LIGHTS WILL ALL START TO FLASH, CANNOT ACCELERATE CAR, CAUSING ME TO PULL OVER AS BEST I CAN. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES. I WAS TOLD BY A MECHANIC THAT THESE CARS ARE KNOWN FOR EATING UP OIL AT AN ALARMING RATE. THE PROBLEM IS TEMPORARILY FIXED BY ADDING A QUART OF ENGINE OIL. THIS OCCURS AT LEAST ONCE A MONTH AND IS ABSOLUTELY TERRIFYING BECAUSE THERE IS NO WARNING. THERE IS NO 'LOW OIL' LIGHT THAT COMES ON. I HAVE YOUNG KIDS AND I FEEL STUCK WITH THIS LEMON. I ALSO HEAR A LOUD RATTLING COMING FROM THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE, UNDER THE HOOD BUT CANNOT SEE ANYTHING. I HAVE ALREADY HAD TO REPLACE THE BATTERY AND WAS TOLD THAT DUE TO SOMETHING ELECTRICAL, IT CAUSED MY BATTERY TO COMPLETELY DIE. THIS CAR IS EXTREMELY UNRELIABLE AND UNSAFE.

THE MOST CONCERNING THING IS THAT MY VEHICLE WILL START AND I CAN DRIVE AND THEN MY CAR WILL SAY 'KEY FOB NOT DETECTED' AND I CAN NO LONGER DRIVE MY VEHICLE. THIS IS A GREAT FEATURE IF SOMEONE WHERE TRYING TO DRIVE AWAY WITH MY CAR, HOWEVER I AM DRIVING MY CAR AND I HAVE THEY KEYS INSIDE. THIS HAPPENS MORE FREQUENTLY IN THE WINTER MONTHS THAN THE SUMMER. IT APPEARS AS THOUGH THE WINTER COLD CAUSES THE BATTERY OF THE KEY FOB TO DRAIN OR NOT WORK PROPERLY. MY CAR WILL NOT START OR UNLOCK, THEN ONCE I AM ABLE TO UNLOCK THE VEHICLE IT HAS A DIFFICULT TIME DETECTING THE KEY FOB (EVEN WHEN FOLLOWING INSTRUCTION MANUAL SHOT A DEAD FOB). THE VEHICLE WILL EVENTUALLY DETECT THE FOB AND START. THEN ON MY DRIVE THE KEY FOB NEEDS TO BE ON THE DASH NEXT TO THE START ENGINE BUTTON SO I CAN DRIVE AND EVEN THEN IT CAN RESULT IN NOT BEING DETECTED AND STALLING THE VEHICLE. I FIND THIS A VERY CONCERNING ISSUE.

CLAIMING THAT THEY WILL CONTACT CHRYSLER - JEEP TO GET MY ENGINE REPLACE OR FIXED THE ISSUE SINCE THEY MENTION. THE DEALER SOLUTION IS THAT THE OIL NEEDS TO BE CHECKED PRIOR TO EVERY OPERATION TO ENSURE IT IS WITHIN OPERATING LEVELS WHICH IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE. ALL THE ENGINEER WARNING LIGHTS POP UP AT ONCE. CAR BEGINS TO BEEP (I ASSUME BECAUSE OF THE WARNING LIGHTS), STEERING WHEEL LOCKS, PREVENTING YOU FROM COASTING YOUR CAR TO THE SHOULDER, THEN THE EMERGENCY BRAKE ENGAGES SO YOU ARE STUCK WHERE YOU ARE. YOU ARE UNABLE TO START THE CAR OR MOVE THE CAR AND YOU ARE STUCK EXACTLY WHERE IT DIED. AGAIN, THIS HAS HAPPENED ON THE FREEWAY, IN THE MIDDLE OF INTERSECTIONS, AND WHILE ON A REGULAR ROAD. WITHOUT WARNING - THE CAR JUST DIES. THE ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND MPG ON SPEEDOMETER READ 99MPH THEN SKIPPED TO11MPH AND I WAS PRACTICALLY AT A STAND STILL. I WAS ABLE TO CAPTURE VIDEO OF THIS. THE NEXT DAY THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS OFF AND I FIGURED I'D TAKE IT IN THE FOLLOWING BUSINESS DAY (MONDAY). WELL I DIDNT MAKE IT TO MONDAY. THE VERY NEXT DAY, SUNDAY, THE ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AGAIN ONLY THIS TIME THEN WHIILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. THERE WAS A MESSAGE ACROSS THE DIGITAL DASH STATING, "PLEASE PULL TO SAFETY, VEHICLE WILL SHUT DOWN SOON". THEN EVERY LIGHT ON THE DASH LIT UP AND THE SPEEDOMETER BEGAN TO SHOW WEIRD NUMBERS. IT LOOKED LIKE A CHRISTMAS TREE THERE WERE SO MANY LIGHTS. THAT MESSAGE WAS ACCURATE BECAUSE IT CERTAINLY DID. IT SHUT DOWN ON THE HIGHWAY AS I WAS ATTEMPTING TO PULL TO SAFETY. I WASNT ABLE TO CAPTURE VIDEO AS I WAS SCARED TO DEATH. I TOOK THE VEHICLE INTO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND WAS LATER TOLD THEY COULDNT RECREATE/REPRODUCE THE ISSUE. SO, AFTER REFUSING TO TAKE IT BACK HOME, THEY DECIDED THEY'D HAVE ONE OF THE TECHNICIANS DRIVE IT HOME TO SEE IF WOULD HAPPEN AGAIN. NEEDLESS TO SAY 7 MOS LATER THEY STILL HAVE MY CAR AND NOW IT JUST DOESNT EVEN START.

LAST WEEK (END OF NOVEMBER 2018) CONSUMER WAS DRIVING THE CAR AND STOPPED AT AN INDIVIDUALS HOME TO PICK THEM UP WHEN THE CAR COMPLETELY SHUT OFF WITH THE STOP/START SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. CONSUMER TURNED OFF VEHICLE AND RESTARTED THE CAR; LIGHT WENT OFF AND CAR RAN AS NORMAL. CONSUMER WAS DRIVING THE CAR TODAY 12/5/2018 WHEN STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT THE CAR STALLED AND RESTARTED, PUTTING IT INTO A "POWER SAVING MODE" WHERE THE RADIO DID NOT WORK AND PARKING BREAK LIGHT CAME ON ALONG WITH TRANSMISSION LIGHT, AND START/ STOP LIGHT. UPON GETTING THE CAR TO THE DESTINATION (HALF A MILE) THE ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. CONSUMER TURNED OFF CAR AND ATTEMPTED TO TURN IT BACK ON. CAR INSTRUMENTS TURNED ON; HOWEVER, WOULD WAS OBSERVED CLICKING AND WOULD NOT TURN OVER. THE TRANSMISSION LIGHT IS STILL ON AND THE START/STOP IS ILLUMINATED. I HAVE READ MANY OF THE "COMPLAINTS" FOR THIS VEHICLE AND THEY ARE CONSISTENT WITH THE SAME THINGS I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING.

THIS HAS HAPPENED ON AT LEAST THREE (3) OCCASIONS.

ALSO AT THE TIME OF STARTING THE ADVANCE IN THE MORNING, WHEN THE VEHICLE IS COLD BY THE AMBIENT TEMPERATURE, THE FRONT BRAKES PRODUCE A LOUD NOISE WHEN BRAKING GENTLY, AS WHEN THE ABS IS ACTIVATED DURING A SUDDEN BRAKING, BUT AFTER A FEW MINUTES OF NORMAL DRIVING AND BRAKING THIS STOP HAPPENING.
