I tried the auto start on the fob car would not start I tried to the push start nothing again . Did get warning coolant temp high Had to tow car They are investigating
My vehicle’s engine has shut off completely in the middle of the road TWICE, both on busy highways. The first time, I was turning left and the engine shut off as I was turning into oncoming traffic and was stuck in the middle of two lanes. Second time, I was stopped at a red light and the engine shut off again. Once the car is turned off and back on, the light for the Auto Stop/Start came on and said to service the Stop/Start feature. The first incident, I had the car brand new for maybe a week. The second incident just happened last week.
On December 9th, my Jeep compass caught fire in Tyson’s corner parking lot (1750 Tysons BLVD). The fire department believes it came from the engine. No warning signs such as engine lights or temperature overheating prior. The car was parked in a spot when this occurred. My daughter was in the car and smelled smoke, car was turned off, got out and it was smoking and sparking then caught fire. 911 was called during this process and came to the scene. The insurance is aware and deemed it total loss. The police and fire department have records we are trying to obtain. The fire spread to other cars.
While driving the 2020 Compass a message will s poradically appear on the dashboard display about "High Coolant Temperature" and immediately sends the vehicle power to shut down and after a couple of seconds the error disappears and the temperature returns to normal. It once shut the engine down completely in the middle of the street and I had to put car in park in middle of traffic and then restart it. This happens at all rates of speed - on the highway driving 65 mph or on a city road driving 40 mph. Dates is has happened that I took note of: 09/11/2025, 10/04/2025, 11/01/2025 and 11/17/2025. It has happened previous to 09/11/2025 as well. It is a serious safety issue to loose power while driving.
Coolant temperature warning and sudden engine shutdowns. This has occurred multiple times in 3 months. started when car was at 50K miles. we have been unable to control the vehicle in traffic when this happens. Dealership (Dave Denis jeep-Dayton, Ohio) was unable to find a problem.
The contact owns a 2020 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that the 4WD engaged and disengaged while driving down the road. The contact stated that the brakes locked up while 35 MPH. Additionally, the computer became inoperable. The contact stated that the battery was replaced, but the vehicle failed to charge. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start. The Service 4WD message was displayed and the Auto START/STOP feature was inoperable. During inclement weather of snow or rain, the 4WD failure was more prevalent. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, who was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 97,000.
Mileage: 97,000
The contact owns a 2020 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that the rearview camera displayed a distorted image while the vehicle was in reverse(R). The contact stated that the failure obstructed driving visibility and prevented the safe operation of the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that on a separate occasion, while driving at a slow speed, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended while depressing the accelerator pedal, and the vehicle stalled. An unknown warning light was flashing on the gear shift lever. The contact restarted the vehicle; however, there was an abnormal humming sound coming from the engine. The vehicle was not taken to the local dealer or independent mechanic to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.

The (A) this automatically temporarily pause the idling of the engine when stopping at a light or stop sign. I’ve noticed that it’ll shut my car off completely as if the battery has died. I’ve been put in scary situations due to heavy traffic. I’ve held up traffic for at least 3-10 minutes. ( my battery is less than 2-3 yrs old). So, for now I’ve started turning that function off upon starting the car before I put it in gear. Any complaints about that anyone know of?
Driving down a busy street going about 40MPH and the car spontaneously turned off and completely lost power while I was driving. It was off for less than a minute and when it turned back on the yellow “start/stop function “ dashboard indicator light was on. The car restarted on its own but that light remained on until I got home and turned the car off. When I turned the car back on the light was gone. It has not happened again, I took the car to a local Jeep dealership and they said it might be a battery issue. The car is available for inspection. Nobody was hurt but I am concerned because if this were to occur on the highway it in a location where I was not able to pull over it could cause a serious accident as the car was driving at 40MPH at the time of the incident and then completely lost all power without warning.
I was driving down the road going about 40mph. The car stopped abruptly and displayer low coolant warning. Car would not restart. I towed it to a local mechanic who replaced the auxiliary battery. Car has been working and hasn't shut off but warning lights sometimes pop up for a split second. I'm worried it's going to happen again while driving.
My car shut off and wouldn’t start it said the asc failed I took it to the dealership they did a diagnostic test said my aux battery level was low need replaced I replaced that my engine light is still on I have to put it on a battery charger everyday so I can go to work then it wouldn’t start at work I needed someone to give me a jump it’s stills said I needed mine esc service and it saying my temperature is too high it only has 58.884 miles on it I wish I never got this jeep I bought it brand new and I had to replace both front tire rod ends I’m beyond upset it also said my car was not in park when it was it wouldnt start I overrided the gear shift but it still wouldn’t start
I had to get my engine replaced a year after I got it. The vehicle has an overheating issue. The vehicle oil pressure sensor goes off. The emergency break comes on. I don’t know where the engine light flashes the EI had to get my engine replaced a year after I got it. The vehicle has a overheating issue. The vehicle oil pressure sensor goes off. The emergency brake comes on. I don’t know where the engine light flashes the ECS light come on the cooling and oil mix together out of nowhere
The vehicle mostly jerks when in drive mode/accelerating. There is possible oil leakage (slightly for the time being).
Car won’t start due to Low Coolant error, fluids are fine.
The engine is shutting down in the middle of Driving. While driving and happening at random the vehicle will have a message populate stating coolant temp high. the engine will turn off and turn back on if the vehicle is being driven. IF the vehicle is stopped and this happens the vehicle will shut down with same message car needs to be put in park from the drive mode and restarted. This has happened countless times and Jeep cannot fix the issue nor replicate as it happens randomly. This is a safety concern as it has happened on the highway and just stopped at time while driving. At the same time of this happening the check engine light comes on as well. The car has been to separate dealerships with neither of them being able to replicate the issue.
My trancontrol started to run hot,and the vehicle started to jerk when it in motion and My driver shaft went bad and the transfer case assembly went outthe jeep compass is broken down
Car had high coolant temperature warning come up on dash and car went into limp mode but then just cleared and continued to drive fine. Recently had auxiliary battery replaced due to auto start/stop not working.
Car engine turned off while driving, e brake was activated with out warning. Car stopped, and the D on the shaft was flashing, vehicle placed in park and was turned off by driver. Car would not restart and could not depress the brake. Car was stuck in the middle of road. After several attempts car sputtered on and was able to be driven to a safe location. No warning lights activated on car, initial eye inspection didn’t see anything out of place. No fluid leaking. Battery was operational entire time
The contact owns a 2020 Jeep Compass. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the engine overheated. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was able to restart however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 98,000.
Mileage: 98,000
2020 Jeep Compass ran hot and started beeping. First was told it needed a system flush by mechanic. There was no prior warnings of any sort as the car has has had regular fluid changes (Oil etc) it appeared on 8/17/2024. Now its a 'transmission coolant fail' I have no idea how this happened at 91k miles.
This issue has been happening sporadically over the last couple of years, but it's starting to happen more often. When driving normally, the check engine light will flash, a message "Coolant temp too high" will appear in red, and the car turns off. Sometimes it will turn back on immediately and drive fine, other times I have to leave it turned off for up to 2 minutes. This happened to me twice on my drive to drop off my kid at school, and on my way to the office, on a busy highway during traffic. All maintenance has been done on time, and there are no error codes when I get it scanned. I get met with shrugs and "could try ..." I see others have been having similar issues, so I am going to post here as well.
I was driving home and got an error message that the coolant temperature was too high, even though the gauge showed it to be right in the middle at the normal level. The car then locked up and I was unable to turn the steering wheel for a terrifying few seconds. The car then restarted itself and I was able to drive home. a while later, I tried to start the car and it would not start and kept giving me the error message that the coolant was too high even though the gauge shows the level to be The very bottom of the temperature on the cool side. I checked the coolant levels and they were a little low so I added more coolant up to the max level and waited a few hours. Then I tried to start it again and it still will not start. Additional error messages are now popping up, including saying, the emergency brake needs to be serviced. I am going to have to get it towed into the service shop tomorrow.
At first my car would only display the “Coolant Temp Too High” message if I came to a complete stop, and went again.. or if i would go over a certain speed. At that time, i could pull over, turn it off, wait a few minutes, and turn it back on and i could watch my coolant temp drop drastically. It has progressively gotten worse to the point that i cannot drive the vehicle longer than five minutes without it overheating. I do the same thing, pull off and wait and turn it back on. It starts to go down a bit, however, as soon as i pull out and begin to drive it, it starts to raise back up immediately. There have been times where the message will display as soon as i turn the car on in the morning.. Please help me. I am a young college student and I have not been able to drive my car for over 6 months. We have changed the thermostat, flushed the coolant, checked for leaks, replaced the radiator cap, and water pump. I don’t know what else to do..
Yes, I bought a brand new 2020 Jeep Compass North Edition from a Wisconsin dealer in June 2020. I drove across country to Utah where I know reside. Had no problems on that trip. About 10 months later I started experiencing a "High temp coolant" light come on and the vehicle shuts off and locks up. Very dangerous while driving. After about 30 seconds I could restart it. It happened about 10 times. Then another alarm came on stating "Service electronic throttle control." As well as the "High temp coolant" warning. Milage at this time was 21K. Took it to a dealership because of the extended warranty I purchased. They replaced both batteries but could not get it to "error out" again. They also stated that there were no error codes stored in the memory, even though I had pictures of the dash showing the error codes. I could not get a picture if the "High temp coolant" error because it happens so fast while driving. So, I took it back 2 more times when it did it again. The first time they said I had a cracked head and replaced it, but 2 days later it shut off again with the "High temp coolant" error. No answers or explanation for this issue again. The last time they charged me over $250.00 for a diagnostic charge and an air filter. Still continues to shut off periodically. It's very disheartening to buy a new vehicle with an extended warranty and have this dangerous situation happen while driving with children in the vehicle. Why doesn't Jeep stand behind their vehicles and fix this issue or recall these vehicles? Does it take someone to be killed and they have a class action lawsuit against them to do something? Wouldn't it be better to be proactive then sorry? I am scared to drive this vehicle other than to work and back because of this issue.
The driveshaft failed at only 32,000 miles and the engine is failing. The dealership confirmed this is happening for other vehicles of my make and model.
I was dropping someone off at work, stopped at the front door, after it said high coolant temperature and my car shut off and rolled, I was about to get in a parking spot. Then I had to get my car towed because I did not want to risk it happening again. My engine and whole car shut off. It was towed to a certified dealership upon request, and is still being checking out. I could have put anyone at risk being in a public area with other cars and people around me but luckily no one was injured. The problem has not be confirmed yet. No the Vehicle has not been inspected by police or insurance. It was given to Jeep. The only warning sign was the high coolant then it shut my car off. It first appeared right before it happened.
Since i bought this , he gave me a lot of trouble, i though thay gave me bad car is lemon car, when i went to the dealer it take month to fixe , i though they fixe but nothing happen, right know they have the car and when never someone like diagnostic can fixe the problem, i want to change
We drove to the grocery store 5 minutes away. After being in the store for about 15 minutes we returned to go home. We tried starting the car and it wouldn’t start, message “High coolant temperature” came on with orange engine light. We waited 5 minutes, started again and all the warning lights flashed and the car locked up. Nothing would engage, even the brakes. We had to abandon the car in the lot and walk home.
Coolant mixing with oil three times in a month span with new parts being replaced. With further inspection, driver was not at fault. Vehicle malfunctioned. Overheating after replacement of thermostat, head gasket, and water pump. Auto start/stop goes on and off requesting service.
The first incident happened with my 2020 jeep Compass on 12/27/23 while on the freeway the temp light flashed the gage didn't indicate overheating I got off the freeway check the engine no sign of overheating waited for awhile then started the car again within five minutes car gage went to overheating had it towed the oil cooler went out out mixed with the coolant paid big bucks for the repairs. I got my jeep back on 1/10/2024 drove it for one week then on 1/16/2024 while driving the dash panel flashed car lost speed even pressing the gas peddle to the floor no acceleration while pulling over the emergency break engaged stoping the car in the road. restarted still no acceleration and car won't move in natural or reveres wheels lock can only move forward at low speed, 01/25/2024 car towed from my mechanic to dealership. Scared to keep car the if it's gonna turn itself out while driving that's an accident waiting to happen
My 2020 compass keeps shutting off on its own. I will be driving and next thing you know it will start saying "key has left vehicle " or a different message saying a long the lines of its over heating. After the over heating message, the car will completely turn off on me making it hard to steer out of the road. I somehow have yo make it safely out of the way to turn it off and restart it. Im just scared one day it will happen on the highway when cars are going by so fast and ill end up getting in a collision. No solution to the problem. The dealership doesn't know whats going on or even have a clue as to what to look for. This is definitely a safety issue and im upset because no one knows how to fix it. I spent my hard earned money to get this vehicle only to have it be a safety issue for me and my kids. Its been going on for months already. Sooner or later this car is going to be the reason I get into an accident.
engine shutting off at highway speed, loss of acceleration at highway speeds and shutting down and not restarting at stop signs or stop lights.
On October 28, 2023 I was making a turn at a major intersection and a coolant temperature high warning flashed on the dash display and the power to the vehicle shut down. Luckily this happened when it was not overly busy as I could have been killed by cross traffic as I was making a turn. At no time did the vehicle overheat and all that had to be done was to restart the vehicle to reset the error. If this had happened on the highway this could have caused a major accident as when the power goes out like this the steering locks.
The contact owns a 2020 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle, the vehicle would not start. The contact stated that several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. The dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.

Vehicle experience a dashboard message stating “High Coolant Temperature” or “Coolant Temperature Too High” followed by an immediate engine shutdown.” it happens while I'm driving or at a idle.
Engine consumes oil rapidly. The touchscreen does not work and shuts off after start-up. Without the touchscreen, the rearview camera does not work, making this problem one of safety. Also, you can not turn on or off safety features in the settings mode, since the screen is blank.
When trying to start vehicle it displays a “Service Electrical System” error followed by “Coolant Temperature Too High” my coolant gauge sky rockets red and then returns to a very low level. The vehicle has not overheated and has been parked and cooled off completely before trying to start. It is now causing my vehicle to throw messages saying my back up light, brake light, and blinker lights are out but all lights work as they are intended.
I was making a left turn when the temperature indicator shot up to red, it had been reading right in the middle which is normal. Then "coolant temperature high" lit up on the dashboard display. The car started to sputter (like shaking) as I was going through the intersection and I thought it was going to turn off completely. I hit the gas because there was still oncoming traffic and it seems like the car recovered. The gauge showing the temperature slowly went back to normal and the error light went away. The same situation happened about 3 months ago when my husband was driving. However, he was sitting at a light when the temperature went up and the error occurred. The car completely shut down and had to be restarted.
The contact owns a 2020 Jeep Compass. The contact stated while driving at approximately 30 MPH, a low oil pressure warning light illuminated intermittently, and the gears failed to shift as designed. The contact also stated that the front of the vehicle was shaking, causing an abnormal sound. The vehicle was taken to a dealer the low oil pressure sensor was replaced. After the repair, the failure reoccurred and the vehicle was taken to another dealer, Harr Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram (110 Gold Star Blvd, Worcester, MA 01606) where the service tech was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 35,000.
Mileage: 35,000
While at a stoplight the engine stalled and the instrument cluster displayed a "coolant temperature high" message. After restarting the engine the temperature gauge displayed the normal mid temp. This has happened once before when reversing in the driveway at home. This scenario is identical to the open investigation at NHTSA from December 2022.
Engine temporarily shut itself off by itself in the freeway as I was slowing down pressing my brakes because of the cars in front of me in traffic hour. The car flashed a “coolant temperature too high” message then immediately turned itself off for a minute. The engine/coolant temperature gauge was normal the whole time I was driving (in between the cold and the high sign). But even then it flashed that “coolant temperature too high” message and shut itself off right then for a minute after it flashed me that sign. It was over 100 degrees fahrenheit outside and inside the car without ac it was awful. I immediately turn on my four ways but cars still kept coming up behind me even though I could not move my car. The car would not turn on. I changed gears from drive to neutral and then to park. And after a minute the car turned on again. Even with my four ways on, drivers kept pulling up behind me on the freeway despite my four way lights being on. I prayed I wouldn’t get hit and cause an accident on the freeway because of my disabled vehicle. A few drivers almost rear ended me because they kept coming up behind me. I kept pressing my brakes and tried restarting my vehicle. I was scared and almost got hit by a some cars. This has happened multiple times every year since I bought the car back in 2021. Before it kept happening at a stop light in the middle of the street and now it happend on the freeway. On the freeway I am driving between 65mph to 80mph and it stopping like that randomly made my heart skip a beat. I thought I was going to be involved in several accidents on the freeway with cars going over 65mph. The car shutting itself off messed up my steering and the braking system. It is a safety hazard. I have gone to the dealership multiple times for this issue and it still happens to me every year. I could have died or caused an accident today.
Unknown as to exact issue. In August 2021, spark plug blew (according to dealer) in the middle of an intersection after the auto “off” and the engine would not turn back on at approximately 8K miles. The spark plug was replaced under warranty. Starting in April 2023, around 31K miles, on two separate occasions after the auto start/stop is in use. It will turn off unexpectedly and without warning after the vehicle has come to a stop. Both times the vehicle could not be turned completely off and restarted for at least one minute. No messages appear on screen. Both issues appear to be related to the Stop/Start feature. Two different dealers have not been able to identify issue.
The vehicle was in motion going 40 MPH when the dashboard displayed high coolant temp. The dashboard continued to flash other warnings such as check engine and oil change required. Then, the emergency brake light was on, engine light, and oil light. This caused the vehicle to lose total power in the accelerator and partial power in the brakes. The event led my vehicle to cause a complete stop in the middle of a highway. To the resolve the issue, I powered off the engine and restarted the vehicle. After powering the vehicle back on, all was normal other than the check engine light was still on, but it did run perfectly fine. Coolant level in reservoir is normal. This instance has taken place on multiple occasions.
Electronic Malfunctions The Jeep completely turn off. Energy lights did not turned on both batteries died. Unable to move the car to “N” to move it out of the freeway. CHP used flares to detour the traffic. Could have been a feral accident due to the electrical turning completely off on the freeway
On 4 occasions, months apart, my 2020 Jeep Compass has given me a dashboard alert stating “coolant temperature too high” and the engine immediately stalls and shuts down. The first 3 times this occurred, the check engine light would come on and the vehicle would not restart and other alerts such as “service 4WD system” and “EBS not available” would display. At no time was the vehicle overheating or the actual coolant temperature above normal operating temperature. After sitting in the middle of an intersection for 5-10 minutes, the vehicle would finally turn on with the check engine light being off and no alerts displayed. The vehicle would then drive like nothing ever happened for a few months. The most recent time this unexpected shutdown occurred, as I slowed to approach a left hand turn the vehicle gave the coolant temperature error and shut down, losing power steering and making the break pedal incredibly hard to depress. I came to a stop in the turn lane and put it in park, only this time the vehicle could not be restarted at all and it had to be towed home and then the next day towed to the dealer for service. The vehicle is still in the dealers possession for servicing. This issue needs to be investigated and reconciled. If this were to happen on the freeway numerous lives would be at risk.
The contact owns a 2020 Jeep Compass. The contact stated while approaching a traffic light, the vehicle stalled. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and continued driving to his destination. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 63,774.

Car showed false high coolant message. And the engine shut off and would not start again
Engine stalling, false overheating reading, battery failing. Radio screen getting stuck with review camera, radio not shutting off after vehicle shuts off, car in park but is not recognized by the system, TIMP issues stop and start function not working properly, losing oil, ESC needs attention. A whole lot of headache. Car has been broke down for a month with 27000 miles and making payment unable to drive.
Vehicle started indicating High Coolant temperature then engine would shut down. It would restart after shut off. Radio would fade in an out . While vehicle was in motion the engine should shut down and had to pull over and restart the vehicle. This happened on several occasions before the vehicle completely shut down. Towed vehicle to dealership with a repair of $700 to replace both batteries.
Stopped at red light and coolant over heating warning came on screen and vehicle would not move. Powered vehicle down and back up and engine was revving aggressively. Turned vehicle back on after a few minutes and it was fine like nothing happened. At no point was the vehicle actually overheating.
The engine on my 2020 Jeep Compass will turn off unexpectedly and without warning after the vehicle has come to a stop. Sometimes, the engine will restart easily with the push start button after the transmission selector has been moved to "Park". Other times the vehicle cannot be restarted for several minutes and random messages appear on the dashboard display. These messages include but are not limited to, "coolant temperature high", "service airbag system" and other assorted nonsensical messages. This issue appears to be related to the Stop/Start feature on my vehicle. This phenomenon is dangerous and unsettling since it leaves my vehicle stranded in precarious situations for undetermined periods of time. The dealer has not been able to reproduce this exact issue. The vehicle and related components have only been inspected by the dealer. This issue has been happening for nearly 45 days. Up to this point there have been no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms prior to the engine shutting off by itself.
Electrical transmission problem. Car stopped working in the middle of street almost got in accident. Won’t accelerate over 20 miles. Problem turning on after turns off automatically. Seen so many people with this problem. This car needs to be investigated is not safe.
Just bought vehicle at 33k miles, 1 owner. Records show they changed oil and maintained vehicle ever 3500-4000k miles. Test drove a certified vehicle from big chain dealer, 4days later decide to purchase. Driving home car didn't feel right. Felt jumping? While driving like bubbly? Anyway got home. Lift hood. I hear engine knocking, I hear hissing under hood on top, also and clank clank nosies underneath by cat converter. A certified vehicle a 125 point inspection by a major dealership. I feel I been scammed. There's no way this should have passed inspection at all.
I did an oil change mid august and found bits of metal in the oil at 50,000 miles, Ive change the oil every 5000 miles. I haven't been rough with it and also every time I get on the highway or rev my engine up to 4000 rpm the transmission slips hard on the 4th gear usually. If I have it on FWD it slips as well. The Blind spot warning goes off randomly sometimes as well.
The vehicle has 44k miles on it. Upon starting the car in my driveway today it would not start and was throwing an ECM error code along with "engine coolant temperature too hot". The vehicle fluids levels are perfect but it just will not start. I called the dealership and was advised they've seen lots of these issues but have no clue how to fix the problem. The car will automatically shut down if being driven and this occurs (we read other blogs on this issue) and it is truly a hazard.
Over the past month my car has had issues with my car not starting up and killing out my battery. Today I had was driving and my vehicle shut off at a stop light and wouldn’t turn back on. After getting the battery powered up I went to work and turned off my car and now it won’t start again. When trying to start my car it will tell me that my coolant temperature is high and then it will tell me the coolant temperature is to low and it will flash and tell me EBS system. The car has even stopped suddenly as I slowed down to make a right hand turn almost causing me to get into multiple accidents. The auto start/stop light is always on. I have already been through 2 batteries in this car so far and I am so frustrated as is my job over this issue.
Second time vehicle refuses to turn on. Purchased a "New" battery from the dealership and just a few months later the vehicle refused to turn on once again. According to the dealership the electrical wires were burnt out by the computer in my jeep. Tire pressure on my vehicle are always incorrect and I have purchased four sets of new tires trying to correct this error. First claim filed with Jeep case number: [XXX] INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
We were going about 30 no more than 40mph and the coolant gauge on the dashboard shot up to the H and went back down so quickly while this was happening the Jeep started jerking like it was gonna stop. Then it started driving normal again that was on a Friday July29,2022 I was on my way to work on a Wednesday August 3,2022 and I was going to work I had just exited the freeway go about 60-70mph I had to come to a smooth stop at a light when the light turned green the coolant gauge shot up again to the H and when I tired to press the gas pedal the vehicle was hesitant to move so I took my foot off the gas and press down again the Jeep jerked then I was able to move again. When it does shoot up to over heating it does it really fast you’re unable to catch a picture. When we open the sunroof I smell this kinda burnt smell almost like someone is burning plastic or something.
BURNING OR LOOSING COOLANT, NO LEAKS OR BUSTED HOSES.
Engine shut itself off by itself at a stop light. The car flashed a “coolant temperature too high” message then immediately turned off. As i was driving I always check my dashboard. I was going 45mph reached the stop light and the engine/coolant temperature gauge was normal in between the cold and the high sign. But even then it flashed that “coolant temperature too high” message and shut itself off right when the red light changed to a green light. It was over 100 degrees Fahrenheit outside and inside the car without AC it was awful. I immediately turn on my four ways but cars still kept coming up behind me even though I could not move my car. The car would not turn on. I called 911 and my insurance for help moving my disabled vehicle. Even with my four ways on, drivers kept pulling up behind me even two semi gasoline trucks despite my four way lights being on. Two drivers almost rear ended me because they kept coming up behind me. I kept pressing my brakes praying cars would not hit me because the car would not come back on. I was sweating and trying not to pass out from the heat. I tried to turn my car back on multiple times and after 15 minutes it finally came back on. Out of fear, I did not continue driving the vehicle because I didn't want to keep driving knowing it would turn itself off at the next stop light. Help was on the way and the tow came to help with my disabled vehicle and the police arrived as well to help divert traffic. I was scared and almost got hit by a car, truck, and two semi gasoline trucks. This has happened multiple times every year. Happened on the driveway at my house, has happened on the freeway where I am going over 65mph and messes up with the braking system and with my steering, and most recent at a stop light driving home from work. Scariest day of my life. It is a safety hazard. Can cause accidents even death.
I purchased this vehicle a year ago. About 2 months ago I started having problems getting the vehicle to start. AAA & Geico have come several times to jump me. The vehicle also states High coolant temperature sometimes when it does this. At one point it would not go over 35 mph. I took it to the jeep dealer to be told start by replacing both batteries for $600 and then we can go from there! She also stated it was probably electrical. I don't have $600 to spare, especially on a vehicle that's a 2020. Took it to Auto Zone they tested both batteries & said they both tested fine. I ended up purchasing a jump box as this happens at least 3 times/week. Well as of today, now that wont even work.
An issue with my 2020 Jeep Compass has been reoccurring, regardless of the engine temperature whether at operating temperature or cold, the vehicle will flash a message of "Coolant Temperature too High", the vehicle will shut itself down and the operator will need to press the brake, press the start/stop button to fully turn the vehicle off, press the brake again and press the start/stop button again to restart the vehicle. After restarting, the vehicle will run normally until the error message flashes again. this issue will occur when pulling out of the drive way after the vehicle has been sitting over night and when it is stopped at a stop light. When driving at highway speeds the vehicle will flash the same "Coolant Temperature Too High" message, act as if it wants to shut itself off for a split second, steering and braking is effected when this happens, and after a split second the vehicle returns to normal operation. The vehicle has been into a Jeep dealership multiple times, on one occasion the auxiliary battery was replaced and that seemed to have solved the issue for a few months but the same coolant temperature message and associated issues returned. The vehicle was taken back to the dealership again and no issues were found. After the most recent trip to the dealership the vehicle drove and operated normally for four days until the next day, the same message and issues listed above happened twice in one morning. I have filed a complaint with Fiat Chrysler, the dealerships have no solution to this issue which in my opinion is a safety hazard, due to the fact the vehicle wants to turn off while traveling at highway speeds.
19000 miles and consumes 1 quart of oil a month. This has been doing this since bought new. Told dealer on two services and dealer (Smith Haven Jeep, St. James, NY) said this is normal. I know this is not normal for a new car. I drive about 400 miles a month unless going on vacation.
I WAS FILLING UP MY GAS TANK, THE AUTOMATIC STOP ON THE GAS PUMP NEVER SHUT OFF. GAS BEGAN SPILLING OUT OF MY CAR ONTO THE GROUND. I PLACED THE GAS PUMP BACK AND ATTEMPT ED TO START MY CAR, MY CAR STARTED BUT SHUT OFF RIGHT AFTER SIGNALING MY OIL WAS LOW. I JUST GOT MY OIL CHANGED A WEEK BEFORE. MY CAR IS NOW AT THE SHOP AND I AM OUT OF POCKET TO FIX THIS ISSUE. THIS WAS A BRAND NEW CAR AND IT CONTINUES TO STALL AND WON'T HOLD A CHARGE. AFTER SEARCHING THIS ISSUE IT SEEMS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE. ALSO I AM TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT MY WARRANTY WILL NOT COVER THIS ISSUE.

MY CAMERAS QUIT WORKING FIRST. 2ND TIME IN THE SHOP, DUE TO STALLING WHEN DRIVING. 3RD TIME LOOSING POWER/STALLING WHILE DRIVING. LOOSING ALL POWER TO CENTER CONSOLE. RADIO, HEAT, PHONE WOULDN'T CONNECT, SCREEN WASN'T WORKING. NOTHING. CAME.BACK ON WHEN DRIVING.

I PURCHASED A 2020 JEEP COMPASS TRAILHAWK WITH THE 2.4 TIGER SHARK ENGINE ON 2/24/20. WHILE ON MY WAY TO SIGN PAPERS, I SAW A FRIEND WITH A 2018 MODEL LEAVING THE DEALERSHIP. WHEN I INFORMED HIM THAT I WAS PICKING UP THE SAME CAR HE TOLD ME TO "WATCH MY OIL". HE HAD HIS SHUT DOWN DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD WITHOUT WARNING DUE TO LOW OIL. HIS WAS USING A QUART IN UNDER 1K MILES. THE DEALERSHIP ENDED UP REPLACING THE ENGINE BUT THE SAME OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUE REMAINED. WHEN I ASKED ABOUT THE ISSUE BEFORE SIGNING PAPERS, THE SALESMAN CHECKED WITH SERVICE & WAS TOLD THAT THEY HAD TAKEN CARE OF THE ISSUE. THEY DID NOT. I HAD MY OIL CHANGED AT 830 MILES (I DON'T DRIVE A LOT) AND IT WAS 1 QUART LOW. IT HAS COME TO MY ATTENTION THAT A RECALL HAD BEEN ISSUED FOR MODEL YEAR 2018 BUT NOT 2020. IT IS THE SAME ENGINE AND SAME ISSUE. IT IS A SOFTWARE UPDATE FOR EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. WHY NOT 2020?
DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, IN NEIGHBORHOODS, INTERSTATE, ETC - RANDOM TIMES THE VEHICLE TRANSMISSION WILL OVERHEAT UP TO 295 DEGREES, AND CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO STALL ENGINE WISE. ALL POWER IS LOST TO THE GAS PEDAL AND I'M NOT ABLE TO ACCELERATE. SOMETIMES THE ELECTRICAL WILL SHUTTER, LIGHTS WILL DIM. ANOTHER TIME VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY IMMOBILIZED AND ALL POWER WAS LOST. THE OVERHEATING AND STALLING HAS HAPPENED 4/5 TIMES NOW - AND ALL JEEP CAN TELL ME IS THEY CAN'T REPLICATE THE ISSUE. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON, SERVICE TRANSMISSION MESSAGE, AND OVERHEAT WARNING COMES ON AS WELL. I'VE SHOWN THEM PICTURES OF THE OVERHEATING TEMPERATURE AS WELL AS ERROR MESSAGES. THEY (JEEP SERVICE) HAS TOLD ME WHEN THEY HOOK IT UP TO THEIR MACHINE IN SERVICE, IT TELLS THEM NOTHING - SO THEY CLAIM THEY DON'T KNOW HOW TO FIX IT OR WHAT CAUSES IT. THIS CAR IS A DEATH TRAP WAITING TO HAPPEN. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS CAR. MY CAR HAS BEEN "IN SERVICE" FOR 4 WEEKS NOW WITH NO RESOLUTION IN SIGHT, AND I'M BEING TOLD SINCE THE ISSUE CAN'T BE DUPLICATED IT'S NOT A WARRANTY ISSUE AND THAT I HAVE TO PAY FOR THE LOANER I WAS GIVEN. I WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE ADVISOR THAT THEY COULDN'T GET THE CAR TEMPERATURE OVER 200 DEGREES, AND THAT THEY CANNOT DRIVE THE VEHICLE OVER 65MPH PER THEIR INSURANCE POLICIES. SO, I TOLD THEM I WOULD DRIVE THE CAR FOR 20 MINS, AND BRING IT BACK TO THEM OVER 200 DEGREES. I CAME BACK IN 25 MINS, AND GAVE THEM THE CAR AT 230 DEGREES. THE SERVICE ADVISOR TOOK THE CAR IMMEDIATELY BACK TO THE SHOP TO BE HOOKED UP TO THEIR "MACHINE" AND SAID HE RECEIVED NO ERROR MESSAGE, EVEN THOUGH THE MECHANIC SAYS THE CAR SHOULD NEVER GO OVER 200 DEGREES. THE VEHICLE TRANSMISSION TEMPERATURE RUNS OVER 200 DEGREES DAILY.

WHEN AC IS LEFT IN THE ON POSITION AND THE VEHICLE IS TURNED ON THERE IS AN AUDIBLE SQUEAK NOISE THAT COMES FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE ENGINE, THIS ALSO OCCURS WHEN THE STOP START SYSTEM ENGAGES AT STOP LIGHTS AND STOP SIGNS. THIS SQUEAK SOUNDS MUCH LIKE A BELT SLIPPING OR A PULLEY TENSIONER NEEDING TO BE LUBERCATED. THIS ISSUE OCCURS CONSISTENTLY REGARDLESS OF AMBIENT TEMPS OR CAR TEMPS. THIS SQUEAK ALSO HAPPENS WHEN THE AC IS RUNNING AND YOU ACCELERATE QUICKLY FROM A DEAD STOP, AT AROUND 3,000 RPMS YOU CAN HEAR THE SQUEAK.

MY 2020 COMPASS STALLS WHILE DRIVING ON THE STREET AND FREEWAY AND WHILE TURNING. I HAVE HAD THIS HAPPEN 6 OR 7 TIMES AND ONE TIME A GUY SLAMMED ON HIS BRAKES AND SWERVED AROUND ME SO HE DIDN'T HIT ME. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER 2 TIMES AND ITS BEEN IN THE SHOP FOR 25 DAYS AND I PROVIDED VIDEO PROOF OF THE ISSUE AND THE DEALER SAID IF THEY DON'T SEE IT THEY WON'T DO ANYTHING. THE CAR KEEPS GETTING DIFFERENT CHECK ENGINE CODES AND THEY JUST CLEAR THEM. THERE IS OBVIOUSLY AND ISSUE THE DEALER WON'T VERIFY DRIVING THE CAR TWO MILES. THERE IS CLEARLY AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE.

I PURCHASED MY CAR ON JULY 22ND 2020. THE VERY FIRST DAY WHILE I WAS DRIVING HOME I NOTICED THAT THE CAR SHUT OFF WHILE I WAS STOPPING. I THOUGHT PERHAPS THAT IT WAS THE AUTO OFF THAT TRIGGERED A LITTLE TOO EARLY. SINCE THEN IT HAPPENED TWICE AND MOST RECENTLY WHILE I WAS DRIVING AND MAKING A TURN THE CAR JUST SHUT OFF. THE ONLY WAY TO GET THE CAR GOING WEST FOR ME TOO PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND START THE CAR AGAIN. ALSO, A GOOGLE SEARCH OF THE TIGER SHARK ENGINE ISSUES POINTS OUT THAT THERE ARE MANY CONCERNS AND COMPLAINTS AFFECTING SO MANY VEHICLES. THERE'S ALSO A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT ABOUT THIS..

I HAVE HAD MY 2020 JEEP COMPASS 4.5 MONTHS AND IT HAS STALLED TWICE. BOTH TIMES AS I WAS APPROACHING A LIGHT TO STOP. MY LIFE HAS BEEN ENDANGERED BOTH TIMES AS I DID NOT REALIZE WHAT HAD HAPPENED NOR DO THE PEOPLE BEHIND ME. I ONLY REALIZED WHAT WAS HAPPENING WHEN I ATTEMPT TO ACCELERATE. BOTH TIMES I WAS ALMOST HIT FROM BEHIND. THE FIRST TIME AT APPROX AT 1624 MILES AND THE SECOND TIME AT APPROX 1742 MILES. THERE IS NO WARNING OR DIRECTION FROM THE VEHICLE, BUT WHILE PANICKING IN TRAFFIC I SEE THAT MY EMERGENCY BAKE IS ON!!!!! SUDDENLY AND FOR NO REASON!! I HAVE ALSO HAVE SEVERAL PROBLEMS SINCE THE FIRST MONTH WITH THE AUTO STOP-START. THIS FUNCTION HAS NEVER WORKED PROPERLY AND SHUTS DOWN ALL.THE.TIME. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP IT WAS MY FAULT FOR NOT DRIVING MY VEHICLE ENOUGH. NOT DRIVING MY VEHICLE ENOUGH DURING A GLOBAL PANDEMIC. I'M TO BLAME. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE IN THIS CAR.

VEHICLE HAS SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING ON TWO OCCASIONS. BOTH TIMES I HAD SLOWED TO A STOP AND WHEN I HIT THE GAS TO REACCELERATE AT A GREEN LIGHT THE CAR SHUT OFF. THE INFOTAINMENT SCREENS REMAINED ON AND THE LIGHTS ON THE SHIFT KNOB STARTED TO BLINK. I HAD TO PUT THE CAR INTO PARK, TURN IT OFF AND RESTART IT ALL WHILE SITTING AT AN INTERSECTION. IT WAS NOT A QUICK PROCESS. THE CAR HAS AN IDLE FEATURE TO SAVE ON GAS HOWEVER THIS WAS NOT THE FEATURE IN ACTION THE CAR WAS OFF COMPLETELY.
Mileage: 700
TWICE NOW, THE VEHICLE HAS COMPLETELY SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING. THE FIRST TIME HAPPENED AT A RED LIGHT. THIS VEHICLE HAS AUTOMATIC ENGINE SHUT OFF WHEN YOU PRESS ON THE BRAKE, BUT WHEN YOU RELEASE THE BRAKE, THE ENGINE IS SUPPOSED TO COME BACK ON. WHEN I WAS AT THE RED LIGHT, THE ENTIRE VEHICLE SHUT OFF AND I NEEDED TO PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND RESTART THE VEHICLE. THIS HAPPENED AGAIN WHILE I WAS MAKING A U TURN A FEW WEEKS LATER. AS I WAS TURNING THE CAR, THE ENTIRE VEHICLE SHUT OFF AND I LUCKILY ROLLED TO THE EDGE OF THE ROAD TO PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND TURN THE VEHICLE BACK ON.

PURCHASED A 2020 COMPASS ON MAY 28TH, 2020 WITHIN THE FIRST WEEK IT SHUT DOWN OR STALLED COMPLETELY AT A STOP STREET, HAD TO PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND HIT THE RESTART BUTTON. I WAS NOT SURE IF THIS HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE AUTO STOP/START SO I SWITCHED THIS FUNCTION OFF AND IN THE FOLLOWING WEEKS IT DIED 2 MORE TIMES ONCE WHEN DRIVING THROUGH AN INTERSECTION THE NEXT TIME WHEN I WAS STARTING OFF AT A STREET LIGHT, THIS IS NOT NORMAL SO ON JUNE 26TH I RETURNED THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND FILLED A CLAIM WITH JEEP CUSTOMER SERVICE. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT PHONED AND SAID THEY HAD THE SAME ISSUE AND IT MIGHT HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH FUEL. IN THE INTERIM I RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE AND THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS ON LINE FROM 2018-2020 COMPASS AND CHEROKEE LATITUDE OWNERS, ALL COMPLAINING ABOUT THE OIL CONSUMPTION, STALLING, DANGERS OF CAUSING AN ACCIDENT ETC. WHEN I PURCHASED THE CAR IT HAD 37 MILES I RETURNED IT IN LESS THAN 1 MONTH AND IT ONLY HAD 240 MILES AS WE HARDLY DROVE IT DUE TO LOCKDOWN AND WORKING FROM HOME. IF CHRYSLER/JEEP DOES NOT ACCEPT THE CAR BACK AND REFUND MY DEPOSIT I WILL HAVE A LEMON LAW LAWYER GET INVOLVED. I HAVE NO CONFIDENCE IN DRIVING THE CAR AND GET ANXIETY ATTACKS JUST THINKING ABOUT DRIVING THIS SUV AGAIN, I CANNOT HAVE IT STALL WHILE IN MOTION DUE TO THE DANGER IT POSES TO MY SAFETY AND OTHER DRIVERS SAFETY. PLEASE REVIEW THIS WITH ALL THE COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET. WE WERE ALWAYS DRIVING ON THE CITY STREETS WHEN THESE HAPPENED BUT IT STALLED AND WE HAD TO RESTART IT EACH TIME EVEN THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT WHO TRIED TO FIGURE IT OUT SAID IT STALLED WHEN THEY TEST DROVE IT, THIS COMPASS IS FLAWED AND DANGEROUS IT SHOULD BE TAKEN OFF THE ROAD, ESPECIALLY SINCE CHRYSLER/JEEP KNEW OF THESE PROBLEMS WITH THE COMPASS SINCE 2018, THEY ARE PUTTING PROFITS OVER SAFETY AND ACCIDENTS WILL HAPPEN AND LIVES WILL BE LOST DUE TO THE STALLING ISSUES.
