2022 JEEP COMPASS Engine Problems

The ABS wont go off it constantly stays on I put a brand new battery in it went out about a week later had to jump start it...When it rains or snow it is like my wipers and headlights goes crazy and sometimes my backup camera is all blue for no reason...I feel like there is something major wrong in the wiring somewhere

This car has stalled 9 times while I was driving. I live in a very busy, densely populated area where car stalling in the middle of streets can get me badly injured or killed. The car stalls in Drive, while I'm braking, and slowly coasts along about an extra 2 feet before completely stopping. I cannot tell that it has stalled because I can't hear the engine, and the Dash always says "Run" with all the lights lit up. Also, Lane Assistance comes on when no cars are around and the car just starts braking on its own and slows down with loud bells ringing and flashing lights on the inside of the car. I turned Lane Assistance off, but it stills comes on by itself. I'm afraid to drive it, but it's all I have and in this city you need a car to get around because nothing is close to home.

On 8/26/25 I got the 88A recall fixed on this jeep at Duluth dodge in Duluth mn .. I left dealership and my ac stopped working brought it back they fixed and it and got it working now on 8/30/25 I’m at a stop light and my jeep stalls, it went to go start for me to drive and it died. The emergency brake came on and I couldn’t get it off the state trooper actually helped me get it off. Had to get my vehicle towed to my house. All lights come on but it says “blind spot alert temporarily unavailable “ check engine light is on and my jeep will not start. I was stranded on a busy road at a stop light with my child in the car . I know this is due to the recall cause my jeep ran just fine and did not have any issues until this recall was “fixed”. This recall actually has my jeep not working at all. All failure lights came on after my jeep stalled and wouldn’t turn back on. From what I’m reading this is exactly what happened to other people . Please FIX THIS

My family's n is safety was at risk daily ,do to fear of the electric system being off ,changing speed and directtion of car falsely. 2Continuly lights sources in panels on at night , unable to turn off . navigation pulling vehicle off lane ,to opposite side of road in rain sleet heavy snow . Stays stuck on after air bags diddnt deploy in accident, caused by nav control and engine lag ? Jeep after I had it in MacDonald motors bridgeton Maine,the seller . 2x in first months . We owned it . I was told when I drove in 1 day early dec .2024 and called another 3 times day around 1st WK of .told availability .threw Xmas . When I tried getting it in there in December, with my complaints of same issues,no appointment was able to be given . Until mid january no temporary vehicle offered .I asked ,was told that's too long .they couldn't offer me 1 . In August after issues with oil filter loosen x2 early oil changes and eating oil ... They said same line if any update needed there nothing they can do that wasn't done . If jeep doesn't release an update .. late on dec 11 after dash console lights staying on without keys .in am tried to cure problems.got a additional problem .windows speraticly were going up and down , after I hit up, at closing . Up then down ..pissed off and up early for an appointment i designed I was going by MacDonalds and dropping car off .and Calling creditor .getting my own car rental. I had an accident on the morning on my way to do this .

I am writing to express my disappointment and frustration with my 2022 Jeep Compass. I purchased my Jeep Feb 2023. In May 2024 my issues started and have not stopped or been able to be diagnosed by 2 different dealers after 4 times of them having my car. My check engine light started and then the non stop issues with the center screen and dashboard flashing on and off. The screens change showing all errors and warnings.c The radio shuts off whenever it wants. Now the car shuts off when it wants. First time I was at a stop sign, it turned off and would not go back on for almost 2 minutes. The 2nd time I was yielding and it shut down. I had to put the car in park and hit the ignition button a few times before it started. On 1 visit I was told that the mechanic did a computer update but I had to let him take it home that night. When I refused I was told to come get it and they didn't touch it. On the last visit which was 10 days I was told there is nothing wrong with my car. Jeep called me 2 days later and stated "maybe they would give me a small discount for a new one" As a loyal Jeep customer, I expect better service and prompt resolution of the significant safety issues.

I was stopped at a red light. When the light turned green, my car completely froze and stalled. Everything on my car locked up. I was not able to turn my car off. My gear shift was locked and the gear letters were flashing. After about 1 minute my car starting moving. Scariest experience ever. I have a dash cam video but can not upload the video here.

The component that failed is the start-stop gas-saving feature on my 2021 Jeep Compass, which I leased in 2021. Initially, the feature stopped working entirely, and the dealer claimed it was due to a battery issue, which they replaced. However, after the repair, the start-stop system began to stall and jolt when stopping at traffic lights. Despite reporting this to the Jeep mechanic, the issue was not considered urgent, so I delayed returning it for further service due to my busy travel schedule and the fact that I rarely drive. I simply avoided using the feature when I did drive. The stalling occurred about four times, but the most significant safety issue happened recently. I was stopped at a traffic light on a busy street when the start-stop feature reactivated automatically. When the light turned green, my vehicle failed to restart, leaving me stuck in the middle of the road with a completely dead car. I had to call AAA for a tow, and I was left blocking traffic in an unsafe situation where I was at risk of being hit by other vehicles. This issue has not yet been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center after this incident, and the vehicle is still available for inspection upon request. To my knowledge, the vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives since the event. There were no warning lamps or messages indicating a problem before the complete failure, though the stalling and jolting after the initial repair were clear symptoms that something was wrong. The vehicle has only 14,000 miles on it and is less than three years old, so this issue should not be happening in a nearly new car.

The vehicle has an automatic start stop function that randomly turns off the vehicle when at a stop sign and puts the brake on. This has happen 3 times since leasing this car last year. I took the car into the dealership after the second occurrence to get it checked out but they could not duplicate the problem. The first occurrence was around 6 months after getting the car.

Vehicle shut off at stop light , parking break engaged and disengaged , Drive shift was flashing , dash was flashing. I shut the vehicle off twice because it happened twice in the same moment until the third time it allowed me to drive.

Occurs at stop sign/light when idling. The car will shut off and will not turn back on although all features in the car are running. The screen will display ‘engine running’ but the vehicle will not drive. I will push the stop/start button and nothing happens. It will take a few minutes for the vehicle to come back on again. This has happened numerous times at random. I have taken my vehicle to two separate dealerships and neither have been able to figure out how to repair the issue. I do not feel safe as this is a high risk for accident and I have two children who are in the vehicle.

The auto start/stop came on and then the battery for it died left me at a green light with the vehicle not running. Had to turn ignition off then restarthe vehicle. it also placed the parking brake on.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the body control module (BCM) was replaced; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, who informed the contact that the vehicle was operating as designed. The contact later received a call from the manufacturer advising him to take the vehicle back to the dealer for a diagnostic test. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with by the Remote Assistance of Jeep engineers, and it was determined that the batteries had low-capacities. The dealer replaced the batteries. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 10,447.

On [XXX] I left the Safeway Gas station on [XXX] I came out the parking lot and made a right and stopped at the light. As soon as I stopped, my car cut off. I put my car and park and push the ignition. I press the ignition again to cut it on everything came on but the car would not start. I sat there for two hours before getting a tow at the stop light that changed colors several different times with my anxiety high because cars were honking, people were yelling at me because I was blocking traffic. I could not put my car into a different gear to even push it off to the side of the road. My car was towed to Sacramento Dodge Chrysler Jeep. Later that day, The representative called and told me that they don’t know what is wrong with the car, he’s never seen this happen before and that my car would qualify as a lemon. I’ve placed a request for Jeep to buy back my car the first one was denied, the case manager resubmitted the request and I’ve heard nothing after being told I would be called in 3-4 business days. I’ve called them several times and I’m not hearing anything back. Also, I was not aware of the recall on my car until I came in for the issue on this day. I report a serious safety hazard that can cause a crash injury or death that needs to be investigated and corrected. On Thursday, November 9 2023 I picked up my car from Arrigo Chrysler Jeep Autodealer located at 2250 FL-7, Margate, FL 33063 where my car was present for 13 (thirteen) days for the following service: a replacement of lost/stolen car keys. On the way from the Autodealer, my car started to push forward and back on the road when I pressed the acceleration pedal. The following signs immediately switched on: "Service Transmission", "Stop/Start System", "Tire pressure". I was able to immediately drive back to the Arrigo Chrysler Jeep Auto dealer. When I was returning an unsafe car, they reported to me: "an issue with the transmission", but have not clarified the code nor explained it to me. This accident on the road put me in fear for my life and I started to feel very anxious. I could not concentrate on the road. As of today, November, 30 my car is still present at the Arrigo Chrysler Jeep Auto dealer at 2250 FL-7, Margate, FL 33063 and I am not aware of what issue put my life and the life of my son in danger. I initiated contact with an auto dealer via email two (2) times: on November, 15 and November, 27, and have never received a response. Instead, today, November 30, 2023 at 5:43 pm I received a voicemail from Enterprise-Rent-A-Car that “I am set up by Arrigo Auto Dealership to return a rental car" that was provided to me on November 9, 2023, at a time when I drop off broken car. An issue with a brand new car that my family is going through and that I am making payments for is not acceptable to me or to any customers in the USA. When I am stopped at a red light, once the light turns green I go to accelerate and the vehicle stalls. The car is still on but the engine completely shuts off. The only way for the vehicle to move again is by turning the car off and then on again. It is extremely dangerous and I have almost been rear ended because of it. Another issue I am having is when I go to accelerate the car jolts and has a grip to it. It feels like something is pulling the car back and I have to push extra hard on the gas to move the car. This happens a lot when merging on the high way or accelerating on side streets.

I have my car for 2 years and the engine has stalled on me 4-5 times at lights trying to come out of the start stop mode. I’ve almost been rear ended multiple times. When these random incidents occur cars behind me do not know what is going on. I took my car to the dealer on 10/3/2023 and they were able to duplicate the problem as I’ve stated it does it at random the code service shifter also flashes on the dash as well as auto start stop not available. But the dealer says the codes are not stored and can’t find them.

This vehicle randomly shuts off. It is usually when I’m going at a slow speed or applying the break. It cuts off and jerks for a second and then I put the vehicle in park cut it off and restart it and it works normal.

The car is supposed to turn off and on when making stops because of the eco mode. There are times where the car will turn off at the red lights and will not turn back on automatically. Other times the car will just completely shut off when coming to a stop . The engine is killed. A complete restart to the car has to happen in order to make it work again. The contact owns a 2022 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 15 MPH making a left turn, the vehicle lost motive power and stalled with the drive(D) light flashing. The driver shifted the vehicle into park(P) and restarted the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer referred the contact to the manufacturer for assistance. The manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to another local dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 1,500.

- Unsure what is failing. With increasing frequency, 22 Jeep Compass Sport repeatedly stalls (1+ time every few months since OCT ’22) when trying to accelerate after stopping, always (except for one time) engaging auto ebrake, and always requiring a shift to park and engine restart. Engine shuts off, but malfunction is likely related to auto start, as it hasn’t occurred when auto start is already pressed off. Latest failure 28JUN at stop sign near home after a 20-second stop, and auto start turn-off failed after restart. This instance is notable in that: this problem is increasing in frequency, duration of stop was short (unlike usual at 1-3 minute stoplights), this occurs whether or not engine was running long beforehand, and is first time the auto start off-button failed. This is also the shortest interval in between instances, as it occurred last week. Available to inspect. -Safety concerns: always occurs in heavy traffic, always during required acceleration, potentially leading to collision at light/in intersection; always antagonizes other drivers. Has not occurred at high speeds (yet), but have read online claims of similar occurrences in Jeeps at highway speeds, risking fatality. -Dealer service was unable to replicate. Dealer was not denying, but unable to diagnose without replication. No codes indicate problem. Personally was only able to replicate once when deliberately trying in empty parking lot. Reported to Jeep in JAN ‘23, then to dealer service at time of diagnostics. -Problem has only been checked by local dealer service. No crashes (yet) so no police or insurance. -Unlike other reports, no warnings prior to failure for me, only “ebrake on” light after failure. -Jeep fanboy forums say cause is low fluids. Wrong, but even if true no car should shut down and endanger lives when brake fluid or even oil is a little low. New cars leaking like sieves would also be yet another Jeep-centric problem. Wife and I know how to drive and check fluids.

Start/stop system. (Shuts engine off at red light, then turns back on when you take foot off brake and press gas) Was at a red light, when light turned green the car did not move. Had to put the car in park and hit the ignition button a few times before it would go.

Car has overheated and needed to be towed twice, the most recent being today. Car overheats suddenly and breaks down in unsafe locations including the interstate. The car has been to the dealership four times for engine problems with no fix. Check engine light comes on after car overheats.

When I was traveling on the highway at 65 MPH, the car suddenly stalled placing my life in great danger, it was also difficult to steer off the road as it would not restart nor accelerate. Once the car was over to the side of the road it would not restart after several attempts. The car restarted after 1 hour of being on the side of the road and I drove it home, 2 days later it would not start when attempting to drive it for repair. The vehicle has been towed to the Chrysler dealer where it was purchased.

Please see uploaded documents for a personal account of all issues on the 2022 Jeep Compass. Yes, it is available for inspection. No warning indications prior to incidents. I went to dealership & they are aware of issues with the mechanical & electrical system, however they did not offer any resolution. No, the vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer or anyone else. The issues began within a few days of being bought on 9/12/22. The incidents are random, ongoing, and increasing. No, the issues have not been reproduced or confirmed by anyone. I live 2 hrs from the dealership, however I have made numerous trips to them & on 1/24/23 did make them aware of the problems in writing. I have tried returning the vehicle on several occasions. No one would work with me, return phone calls or emails. They did agreed to a trade but with a $10,000 charge for trading this vehicle in for another one just like it but cheaper cash price of $32,595. That was 9/22/2022, 10 days after signing the contract. However I have been calling & email the salesman & business manager from day one. I am convinced they sold me a Lemon & are preditory lenders considering how they have treated me. The salesman tore the window sticker off the Jeep, waded it up & threw it away the night it was bough. He also did not give me my trade in license plate, or my extra key fob to the new vehicle. I have since gotten the key fob on a trip there. The license plate is gone. I have called & went by numerous times with no one willing to work with me concerning the Jeep on all situations. I have since learn Base MSRP is $26,525. My contract was written for $38,864 in total. Cash price was $35,305. They also financed a down payment through a credit card company when told I had no down payment of $3,000, which is a separate payment. I am not sure this is where I complain about Preditory Lending but I thought it wouldn't hurt to share my situation considering the issues I am having with the physical vehicle.

I was on the entrance ramp for the freeway and the gas pedal disengaged. I could not accelerate and my car slowed down. A message on the display said to service electronic throttle. This has happened to me twice. My car is barely six months old. I was going 40 mph at the time. Today, I was getting into my car after picking up lunch and as I sat down, the alarm went off for close to 4 minutes. I unlocked and locked the key fob, I started the car and turned it off, and repeated everything about twenty times. I'm in a very public place sitting inside of a car whose alarm won't shut off...anyone could've called the police on me. Someone probably did. The alarm is supposed to shut off at 90 seconds, why didn't it? Why have an alarm that won't disengage? When I press the button to disable the auto stop/start, my car will jerk a few times and a message will pop up to service the auto stop/start. This first happened two days after I got the car (less than 100 miles on car) and it's probably happened close to ten times by now. I'm usually going about 30 - 40 mph when this happens.

This vehicle has two dangerous issues: 1) It brakes unexpectedly and for no reason during drive. This has happened to me at least 3 times while driving on the freeway without any cars close in front or around me. Bells and whistles just go off all of a sudden and vehicle brakes for no legitimate reason, throwing me forward. 2) This vehicle stalls while driving. This has happened to me 6 times. Engine just falls dead while in drive. I have to put it in park and restart the engine. This could get me killed.
