In November 2024, Jeep applied an over-the-air software update to my Jeep Grand Cherokee L without my request. Immediately after the update, the forward collision warning system malfunctioned and warning indicators appeared. At the same time, multiple electronic body control and safety-related functions changed or stopped working, including the automatic door locks and several vehicle settings resetting (language, units, and driver-assist preferences). The affected systems are electronic safety and body control components and are available for inspection. The malfunction of the forward collision warning system puts vehicle occupants and others at risk because the vehicle may fail to provide collision alerts intended to help prevent or reduce the severity of a crash. There was no crash, damage, or hardware failure before or after the update. The vehicle operated normally prior to the software update. These problems have continued without interruption for more than 13 months and have not corrected themselves. The issue has not been confirmed by a dealer because Jeep Customer Care has required a paid dealership diagnosis before escalating or correcting a problem caused by its own software update. The vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer or any third party. Warning lights and messages related to the forward collision warning system first appeared immediately following the November 2024 update. Jeep/Stellantis has acknowledged similar over-the-air software-related issues in internal technical documentation (STAR Publication Case Number S2108000249, Revision C). This is a safety-related software defect affecting forward collision warning and driver-assist systems.

Randomly, and without warning, the instruments, gauges, and displays will switch into a language I do not speak or understand (Italian). Coinciding with the switch to Italian language, cluster and radio display settings revert back to default settings, auto door locks and paddle shifter becomes inoperative (with no menu to enable), pedestrian emergency brake (peb) lamp or forward collision warning (fcw) lamp turns on with no way to disable, units of measurement including speed, temperature, etc. all change, and many other random settings change as well. ***This is clearly a dangerous situation because of all the functions and gauges that change, and the fact it is difficult if not impossible to recover from this due to the language of the setting menus, and the complexity of discovering and navigating through all these changes. I have taken it to the dealer, and they say there is nothing they can do and to wait for a possible software update, but none has come and it has been over a year. When this happens, even if one is able to wade through all the settings menus and change setting back, some items cannot be reset (like the FCA off lamp). According to various Jeep owner forums, some dealers have been able to reset something and temporarily correct the issue, but they charge for this service, and the issue returns randomly again. Here is an example forum discussion, indicating many if not all vehicles are affected: [XXX] Many people on the forum believe this issue did not start until a software update a year or so ago. This is a well known and widespread problem, and there is even a DOT Bulletin on the issue: dot.report Bulletins Because this is dangerous (for settings/gauges/units to no longer be useful while driving), and it occurs randomly, I strongly believe this issue should be a manufacturer recall. I am available for any needs." INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

What component or system failed or malfunctioned? Electrical system: infotainment display module, BCM, passive entry antenna, ignition/start system, and electronic power steering. Vehicle available for inspection. How was safety put at risk? The vehicle locked my children inside and would not start, requiring assistance to open it. The power steering failed for several hours, leaving the car unsafe to drive. Ongoing electrical instability creates unpredictable loss of critical functions. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer? Some issues were confirmed by the dealer (screen blanking, key fob failure, antenna fault, software issues). Others, including the power steering failure and lock-in incident, were not reproduced but were documented and acknowledged. Has the vehicle or component been inspected? Yes. The Jeep dealership has inspected the vehicle multiple times, performed software updates, antenna replacement, PCM updates, and a steering update. They provided history and advised contacting Jeep Cares. Warning lamps, messages, or symptoms prior to failure? Yes. Screen blanking, random language/time changes, stop/start light not working, key fob failure, vehicle not starting, and power steering not activating. Issues began in 2023 and have recurred through early 2025.

On multiple occasions, vehicle screen just go blank, backup camera won’t work, do locks do not work, and forward collision detection not working for a year now after last forced over the air update for Uconnect system. Car has been to dealer multiple times and still no fix for it. Also 4wd system not working properly and vehicle pulls to side even tho alignment is set to factory specs. Also the driver seat module melted and dealer can’t figure out why and wasn’t covered under any type of warrenty

Passenger lumbar support bladder bags blow up in their own causing seat leather to stretch and seat back to pop off. Took to dealership, the whole fuse and/or electrical panel related to passenger seat controls is faulty. This is the second time this has happened to my jeep.

There are over a half a dozen features, including safety features that simply aren’t working: pedestrian avoidance, automatic braking, paddle shifters, high beam headlights, memory seats moving while driving, system and screens freezing or going blank while driving, Italian randomly being selected as the language, and the units of measure being switched to metric randomly among other things. I've paid the dealership $300 for a software update a year ago and now the same exact issue has happened again.

1) The 'Forward Collision Warning Off' light has continued to show on my dashboard, even though everything in the system indicates that it is on. 2) From time to time, usually when using the remote start, the system will change settings to Italian Language and also change temp to C rather than F. 3) On at least 3 occasions, when I start the car, all warning lights turn on, such as Service Power Steering, Lane Assist, Automatic emergency Braking, etc. I have to turn the car completely off, wait a few minutes, and turn back on to have thing behave as normal.

I purchased my vehicle in Sept. 2022. Issues began Nov. 2024. At first my radio screen was glitching and at the same time my car did a software update, it reset all my settings and my AEB system was disabled and would not turn back on regardless of how many times I turned it back on. The dealer did a manuel software update, replaced my screen (I paid the $100 warranty deductible) and it fixed the problem. A month and a half later it happened again without the update and my screen again was glitching. All my settings were changed and my AEB system was disabled. Dealer did a manual reset and another month and a half it happened again. At this appointment I asked them we need to do something else. This is not working. They saw that my alternate battery was not holding power well and not fully sending power to my module which controlled my radio/navigations systems also my safety features on the car. I replaced both batteries at $820. I needed 2 modules replaced. I had the module for the radio/navigation and safety features replaced and I am still currently waiting the other module that controls WiFi connections. It has been 3 weeks since I received my new module. After one week my radio screen was glitching. They said it was a lose wire and it needed to be replaced. As well as my auto start/stop button is being replaced because they most likely broke it due to them taking apart my radio so many times. Now at 3 weeks my car again reset my settings and my AEB is disabled. I have an appointment for them to look at it again but I have been to the dealer on an average once every 4-5 weeks since this issue began. Does not look like it’s going to fixed anytime soon.

June 2, 2023 power steering went out while driving, lights on dash came on, mileage on vehicle 15,869. Was out of town, stopped vehicle for about an hour, lights on dash no longer visible, power steering returned. Vehicle brought into dealership on June 22, 2023, EPS was updated. March 17, 2025 same thing happened, mileage 31,966. This time it happened when vehicle was turned on. Turned vehicle off several times, power steering returned, but engine light remained on for a day. March 19, 2023 brought vehicle into dealership and codes were cleared according to work order. It is next to impossible to turn or control vehicle when this happens. The wiper hose has disconnected twice since purchase of vehicle and has been reconnected at dealership both times.

Battery is being completely depleted by unknown source. Vehicle will not start or any functions do not work. A one day old new battery was completely drained and depleted in a 24 hour period.

The infotainment center went to error on Jeep with less than 60,000 miles. Owned from new 2 years. The infotainment center can not be accessed and it makes modifications on its own. Like choosing different language of Italian and using euro measurements. There is no way to change this. The biggest issue is that it turned off safety feature which I believe is the forward collision warning. There is no way to change safety setting with out infotainment system. It also believed to be causing battery to drain. Jeep will not assist.
