VEHICLE LOOSES ALL POWER - ENGINE STOPS AS WELL AS ELECTRICAL --- UNTIL YOU SHAKE MAIN WIRING HARNESS . HAVE SPENT OVER $ 5000.00 HAVING COMPLETE ELECTRICAL DIAGNOSTIC REPLACING MAIN ECM HARNESS AND TESTING AFTER REPAIRS WERE COMPLETED . STILL SAME PROBLEM AND WAS TOLD BY ELECTRICAL AUTO TECHNICIAN TO MAKE COMPLAINT AS JEEP CHRYSLER WILL NOT WARRANTY OR HAVE A REPLACEMENT ECM FOR ANY GRAND JEEP CHEROKEE'S EFFECTED BY THIS PROBLEM . JUST RECENTLY FOUND THIS SITE AND ASKING FOR YOU TO DO SOMETHING FOR THIS PROBLEM . MY WIFE AND I HAVE BOTH BEEN IN MANY NEAR MISSES DO THIS PROBLEM AS THIS HAS HAPPENED OVER A 100 TIMES AND NO THIS IS NOT AN EXAGGERATION . IF YOU COULD GET JEEP CHRYSLER TO MAKE A REPLACEMENT ECM WOULD BE GOOD !!!!! DO WE HAVE TO TAKE THEM TO CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT AFTER A SERIOUS ACCIDENT TO GET SATISFACTION AS MANY OTHER GRAND JEEP CHEROKEE'S HAVE THIS PROBLEM???

THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS ALSO DISPATCHED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE WAS DETERMINED TO HAVE BEEN RELATED TO AN ELECTRICAL FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE INCIDENT. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.

THE DIAGNOSTIC TEST LOCATED THE FAILURE AT THE RADIO WIRES, WHICH WERE CROSSED, CAUSING THE FUEL GAUGE, CLOCK, RADIO AND BATTERY TO DRAIN. THE MANUFACTURER WILL BE CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 198,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 201,000.

JEEP BROKE DOWN DECEMBER 17,2008. 1ST ENGINE COMPUTER BOUGHT FROM CARQUEST 2/04/09. INSTALLED 2/06/09 BY TOMPSONS'(DEFECTIVE) PRICE $357.97. RETURNED THE PART. I ORDERED FROM ADVANCE AUTO ZONE 2/09/09. INSTALLED BY THOMPSON'S 2/10/09. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WILL NOT LIGHT UP/ JEEP WILL NOT RUN. PRICE $213.99. MY MECHANIC ASKED ME TO MAKE SURE THE ENGINE COMPUTER NUMBERS MATCH. THEY DID. CARQUEST INFORMED ME THERE IS A NATIONAL RECALL ON THE ENGINE COMPUTER & IT CAN TAKE UP TO 6 MONTHS TO GET ME A PART. I NEED MY VEHICLE RUNNING. I CAN'T AFFORD TO BUY A VEHICLE RIGHT NOW. I NEED ALOT OF ADVICE. PLEASE HELP! *TR

THE CONSUMER TRIED TO FIND WHAT THE CAUSE MAY HAVE BEEN AND DETERMINED THE VEHICLE WAS GETTING ENOUGH FUEL BUT NO SPARK, UNFORTUNATELY THIS REPAIR DIDN'T REMEDY THE PROBLEM. WHILE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN GARAGE IT CAUGHT ON FIRE. TOOK VEHICLE TO ELECTRICAL SHOP TO FIND OUT WHAT CAUSED FIRE, FIRE STARTED WITH A FUEL LEAKAGE AND BURNED WIRES WHERE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE REPAIRED DUE TO UNREPLACEABLE PARTS. AK
WHEN RUNNNING IT RUNS NORMALLY AND THEN WHEN YOU SHUT IT OFF IT WILL NOT START UP WE HAVE CHANGED THE FUEL FILTER AND THE PLUG WIRES ALSO NEW BATTERY AND CAP AND ROTOR AND PUT A NEW FUEL PUMP RELAY SWITCH AND ALSO 20.00 OF GAS AND SOME INJECTOR CLEANER AND STILL WILL NOT START AFTER SHUTTING OFF . *AK
WHILE DRIVING AT ABOUT 50 MPH ALL POWER SHUTDOWN WITHOUT WARNING. CONSUMER HAD NO POWER STEERING, AND NO BRAKES. *AK
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IS CAUSING THE IGNITION COIL TO CONTINOUSLY FAIL. DEALER'S REMEDY WAS TO REPLACE COIL. THE COIL HAS BEEN REPLACED ON 3 DIFFERENT OCCASIONS AND CONTINUES TO BURN OUT.*AK

SECURITY SYSTEM ERROR CODE SHOWS WHEN KEY IS TURNED. ENGINE WILL NOT START UNTIL KEY HAS BEEN TURNED ON AND OFF AND ON AGAIN SEVERAL TIMES. MAY TAKE FROM 5 MINUTES TO 75 MINUTES BEFORE STARTING YOU HEAR SOUND OF FUEL INJECTION. NO FUEL TO ENGINE UNTIL THAT TIME. THEN CAR STARTS IMMEDIATELY. CONSOLE SHOWS REAR LAMP FAILURE WHEN ALL LIGHTS ARE WORKING. SOMETIMES SHOWS THIS ERROR CODE WHEN LIGHTS ARE TURNED OFF. *AK
VEHICLE PARKED OVERNIGHT AND VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE. VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED. THE FIRE OCCURRED IN THE REAR PASSENGER'S DOOR. WAS INSPECTED & WAS INFORMED OF POSSIBLE ELECTRICAL WIRING SHORTING OUT. WAS NOTED NOTHING FROM MANUFACTURER. *AK
WHILE DRIVING AT 70MPH WHITE SMOKE CAME FROM UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE, VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE, AND WAS TOTALED. *AK
POWER WINDOW WIRING BETWEEN THE DRIVERS DOOR AND BODY (FLEX CONDUIT) FAILED, AND LEFT ONLY THE DRIVER WITH WINDOW CONTROL.INSPECTION SHOWED SPLIT INSULATION (FATIGUE) EXPOSED CONDUCTOR AND OPEN CIRCUIT. REPAIR OF WIRE LASTED FOR 4-5 MONTHS BEFORE ADDITIONAL WIRES FAILED AND OR THE SAME WIRE FAILED IN A NEW LOCATION. WIRE INSULATION SEEMS TO BE TOO STIFF AND CRACKED, CAUSING STRESS ON THE CONDUCTORS ,AND SUBSEQUENT FAILURE. MOST RESENT FAILURE 5-99 CAUSED WIRES TO MELT. SEATBELT FAILURE: DRIVERS BELT WILL NOT RETRACT, AND IS THERE FOR LOOSE AND UNSAFE. BELT RETRACTOR SPRING WAS BROKEN AND STICKING OUT OF UNIT. *AK
ALTERNATOR/BRAKING SYSTEM/WINDOW WIRING, MOTOR MOUNTS FAILED. HAD TO BE REPLACED. THESE FAILURES COULD RESULT IN A CRASH. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK
