ON THE DATE OF 12/01/10 I BOUGHT A 93 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE JEEP SEEMED TO BE DRIVING FINE TIL 02/16/10 I DROVE THE VEHICLE FOR THE FIRST TIME ON I-81 AND NOTICED A SEVERE SHAKE ALMOST CRASHING VEHICLE TOOK TO AUTO CENTER FOR SUSPENSION EVAL. WITH THAT THEY TOLD ME THERE WERE MANY PARTS BROKEN FRONT CONTROL ARM BALL JOINT TIE ROD TRAC BAR STEERING DAMPER ALSO REAR UPPER AND LOWER CONTROL ARMS BOTH SIDE WERE COMPLETELY SHOT THEN TOOK TO ANOTHER AUTO CENTER FOR SECOND OPINION ASKED IF NORMAL WARE AND TEAR FROM WHEN I HAVE BROUGHT IT BOTH TECH'S SAID NO WAY DON'T EVEN NO HOW IT GOT INSPECTED ALSO TECH'S STATED THE REAR UPPER AND LOWER CONTROL ARMS ARE IN A STAGE WERE THEY ARE READY TO FAIL WITCH WOULD CAUSE THE BACK END TO BASICALLY SNAP OFF VERY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE AT THIS CURRENT TIME VEHICLE IS SITTING. DON'T HAVE THE MONEY TO FIX PROBLEM AND THE CAR LOT WILL NOT HELP. *TR

I BELIEVE THAT THE 1993 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE HAS A SERIOUS SAFETY DEFECT IN THE FRONT SUSPENSION. WHEN HITTING A BUMP, POTHOLE OR OTHER UNEVEN ROAD SURFACE AT , SAY, 45 TO 65 MPH, THE FRONT SUSPENSION OF THE CAR AND THE STEERING COLUMN WILL SOMETIMES GO INTO A VIOLENT SHAKE AND SHIMMY THAT IS UNCONTROLLABLE UNTIL YOU SLOW THE CAR CONSIDERABLY. THIS HAS HAPPENED SIX TIMES SINCE JULY 28, 2001. IT PROBABLY OCCURS WHEN A CERTAIN HARMONIC VIBRATION FREQUENCY IS DEVELOPED. I HAVE HAD THE CAR CHECKED AND THE STABILIZER BAR REPLACED, BUT THE PROBLEM PERSISTS. I CHECKED THE NHTSA COMPLAINT FILE AND SEE THAT THIS VERY SAME PROBLEM HAS BEEN REPORTED BY OTHER DRIVERS. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY DEFECT THAT SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED AND CORRECTED. WHILE MY CAR IS A 1993 MODEL, I AM SURE THAT THIS SAME SUSPENSION WAS USED IN CARS FOR SOME YEARS AFTER 1993. I AM INTERESTED IN POSSIBLY BUYING A NEW JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE BUT CANNOT MAKE THAT COMMITMENT UNTIL THIS MATTER IS CORRECTED AND SHOWN TO NOT EXIST IN THE NEW MODELS. *NM

CONSUMER RECEIVED RECALL FOR A SECONDARY DETENT SYSTEM AND HAS HAD PROBLEMS WITH FRONT END. *MR
WHILE DRIVING THE FRONT AXLE OVERHEATED AND DAMAGED THE DRIVE SHAFT. *NLM
CONSUMER SAID THAT THE SHOCKS ON THE VEHICLE WERE VERY BAD CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO BOUNCE VERY BAD. TS
WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED AND WHEN HITTING A BUMP IN THE ROAD VEHICLE WILL VIBRATE, AND TEMPORARILY LOSE STEERING CONTROL. DEALER NOTIFIED.*AK
WHEN MAKING A SHARP TURN FRONT END STARTS JUMPING AND RATCHETING, FEELS LIKE FRONT END WILL LOCK UP. THIS HAPPENS AT ALL TIMES AS SOON AS VEHICLE IS WARMED UP. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALER 8 TIMES, CV AXLE WAS REPLACED TWICE AND SPIDER GEAR IN DIFFERENTIAL WAS REPLACED. DID NOT REMEDY THE PROBLEM.*AK
WHILE DRIVING COULD HEAR LOUD NOISE COMING FROM SHOCK ABSORBER. IT WILL NOT HOLD WHEN DRIVING OVER A HOLE. HAD CONTACTED DEALER. *AK THE LEFT FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE HAD VIBRATION DUE TO OUTER AND INNER TIE ROD FAILURES. THE SEAL AND THE CYLINDER ON THE REAR LEFT AND RIGHT FAILED. *YH
WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, CONSUMER COULD HIT A BUMP AND LOSE CONTROL OF VEHICLE. AT TIME OF MAKING A TURN COULD HEAR A NOISE, DEALER WAS CONTACTED. *AK CONSUMER STATES THAT ALIGNMENTS WERE DONE TWICE ON THIS VEHICLE. *YD
THE SWAY BAR LINKS ARE LOOSE AND WORN. NLM
AT ANY SPEED WHEN TURNING VEHICLE THERE IS A LOUD GRINDING NOISE COMING FROM REAR, AND STEERING WHEEL JERKS BACK IN OPPOSITE POSITION. DEALERSHIP IS AWARE OF PROBLEM.*AK
THE STEERING STABILIZER FAILED CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO VIOLENTLY SHAKE AND SHIMMY WHILE DRIVING, MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. NLM
STEERING WOULD MAKE NOISES WHENEVER TURNING. IT WOULD NOT RETURN TO ORIGINAL POSITION AFTERWARDS. TOOK TO SEVERAL MECHANICS. WAS INFORMED BY FIRST MECHANIC IT WAS SUSPENSION, AND NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. ANOTHER MECHANIC INFORMED CONSUMER IT WAS GEAR BOX CAUSING NOISE. ALSO, DRIVER'S DOOR CAME APART AT SEAMS, HOLDING IT TOGETHER WITH A ROPE. *AK
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION HAS FAILED/BURNED UP TWICE, BOTH TIMES AT APPROXIMATELY 60,000 MILES. PAINT IS FLAKING OFF IN LARGE PIECES. COIL SUSUPENSION SQUEAKS AND HAS BEEN SINCE ABOUT 50,000 MILES.
KNOCKING NOISE WHILE DRIVING OVER BUMPS, DUE TO FAULTY TRAC BAR, REPAIRED ONCE AND REPLACED TWO TIMES. MJS
WHEN VEHICLE GOES OVER A BUMP FRONT WOULD SHAKE BADLY. ITS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM. HAS NOT TAKEN VEHICLE TO DEALER AS OF YET. *AK

BOTH REAR AXLES ARE SCORED AT THE POINT OF INTERACTION WITH WEEL BEARINGS
WHEN VEHICLE ENCOUNTERS A MINOR BUMP INTHE ROAD THE STEERING WHEEL BEGINS TO SHAKE AND WOBBLE UNCONTROLLABLY, USUALLY OCCURS BETWEEN 30-65 MPH.
VEHICLE VIBRATES DUE TO FAILURE OF THE TIE RODS, SHOCK ABSORBER AND STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY.
TRACK ARM BAR FAILED.
WHEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE IN WINDY CONDITIONS AND OVER 40MPH THE CAR DRIFTS BACK AND FORTH ACROSS THE ROAD. TOOK TO THE DEALER, BUT THEY COULDN'T CORRECT THE PROBLEM. *AK
WHILE TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 55-60 MPH AND ENCOUNTERING A WASHBOARD OR IRREGULAR PAVEMENT CONDITION FRONT END WOULD WOBBLE UNCONTROLLABLY. *AK
WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 40-50 MPH, IF HITTING A SMALL BUMP IN THE ROAD, STEERING WHEEL WOBBLES AND ENTIRE VEHICLE SHAKES. *AK
WHEEL BEARINGS FAILED.

REAR AXLE SEALS LEAKED, CAUSING BRAKE DRUMS AND SHOES TO FAIL.
REAR AXLE SEAL FAILED, CAUSING LEAKAGE, RESULTING IN DAMAGE TO THE BRAKE SYSTEM.
REBUILT REAR END SUSPENSION DUE TO FAILURE.
BALL JOINT FAILED, CAUSING VIBRATION.
REAR SHOCKS ARE TOO LIGHT FOR VEHICLE.
VEHICLE SURGED FORWARD, RESULTING IN LOSS OF CONTROL, BRAKES FAILED TO STOP VEHICLE FROM SURGING, FRONT END MISALIGNMENT ANS REPLACED BROKEN MOTOR MOUNT. *AK
STEERING WHEEL SHAKES VIOLENTLY WHEN VEHICLE HITS BUMPS. *DSH
