TAKATA RECALL: APPROX JUNE OF 2015 AFTER GOING TO THE OREGON CITY DUMP WHILE SITTING AT THE LIGHT WAITING FOR THE LIGHT TO CHANGE. THE AIRBAG JUST WENT OFF NO REASON NO ACCIDENT AND GAVE A BLOODY NOSE. HE HAD TO CHANGE THE STEERING WHEEL BECAUSE OF IT. BUT NOW I'M SCARED TO DRIVE IT AND IT JUST SITS.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 1994 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE HYDROPLANED AND CRASHED INTO A TREE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED A BROKEN ARM AND BACK INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A TOWING LOT. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 190,000.

CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE ACCIDENT AND REQUEST INFORMATION ON VEHICLE MALFUNCTIONS, DEFECTS AND MECHANICAL FAILURES. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED HE WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT, IN WHICH HE WAS INJURED AND HIS COUSIN WAS KILLED. THE CONSUMER BELIEVED THE ACCIDENT WAS A RESULT OF THE MALFUNCTION, REGARDING A POTENTIAL DEFECT, IN WHICH CHRYSLER PREVIOUSLY REFUSED TO RECALL THE VEHICLES FOR. THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE LOCKED UP, AND WENT SOUTHBOUND AND ENDED UP IN THE WOODS. THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE. ALSO, THE AIR BAGS NEVER DEPLOYED. INVOLVED IN A FRONT END COLLISION ON 11/5/2007 WITH EXTENSIVE FRONT END DAMAGE TO VEHICLE. AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY AND DRIVER (WHO WAS WEARING A SEAT BELT) SUSTAINED A FRACTURE TO THE STERNUM WITH CONSIDERABLE PAIN AFTER. INSPECTION OF THE VEHICLE REVEALED THAT THE LEFT AIR BAG SENSOR WAS BROKEN AS A RESULT OF THE ACCIDENT, BUT AIR BAG STILL DID NOT DEPLOY. AT NO TIME DID THE AIR BAG INDICATED THAT THERE WAS A POSSIBLE DEFECT IN THE SYSTEM. *TR

ENGINE SPEED WENT TO MAXIMUM WITH FOOT ON BRAKE (ANTI SKID BREAKING LEFT TRACKS AND WE HAVE PHOTO'S!). VEHICLE HIT PARK BENCH, PARKED CAR, KNOCKED DOWN 6" DIAMETER TREE, AND CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE UNTIL IGNITION WAS TURNED OFF. EXAMINATION SHOWED SPEED CONTROL "ON" BUT NOT ENGAGED. TIRE SLIPPAGE MARKS INDICATE THAT BRAKES WERE APPLIED AT LEAST THREE TIMES, BUT ONLY HELD ON DRIVER SIDE WHILE ANTI SKID PULSED BRAKES. SHIFTING FROM DRIVE TO REVERSE ONLY REVERSED DIRECTION OF VEHICLE AND DID NOT SLOW MOTOR. TOTAL DISTANCE TRAVELED WAS APPROX 400 FEET. MOTOR APPEARS TO HAVE GONE TO FULL THROTTLE WHEN TRANSMISSION WAS PLACED IN DRIVE AND WHILE VEHICLE BRAKES WERE APPLIED (DRIVER HAS OTHER VEHICLES [FORD AND NISSAN] THAT REQUIRE APPLIED BRAKE TO ENGAGE TRANSMISSION.) DIGITAL PHOTOS OF THE TIRE BRAKING MARKS ARE AVAILABLE. ALTHOUGH ENTIRE FRONT END OF JEEP WAS DEMOLISHED, NO AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. *AK
