TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1994 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WAS GETTING STUCK AND CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO SURGE AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED WITHOUT WARNING. THE RPMS RACED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE INDEPENDENTLY SHIFTED GEARS WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT HAD TO TURN OFF AND RESTART THE VEHICLE SEVERAL TIMES DUE TO THE FAILURE. IN ADDITION, THERE HAD BEEN FUEL FUMES INSIDE AND OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE. THERE WAS A LEAK IN THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE, BUT THE CONTACT WAS UNCERTAIN OF THE ORIGIN. THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V252000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE, STRUCTURE). THE DEALER DID NOT INDICATE WHEN THE PARTS WOULD BECOME AVAILABLE TO RECEIVE THE RECALL REPAIR. THE CONTACT WAS PLACED AS NUMBER 46 ON THE WAITING LIST, BUT THE DEALER DID NOT FOLLOW UP TO INDICATE WHEN THE PART WOULD BECOME AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT WAS WAITING ON THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER TO SCHEDULE THE RECALL REPAIR BEYOND A REASONABLE TIME FRAME. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
DRIVING 25 MPH AND TURNED KNOB TO PUT ON HEAT AND THICK, BROWN SMOKE COMING OUT OF VENTS IMMEDIATELY FILLED CAR. I STOPPED AND LOOKED UNDER HOOD. I COULD SEE A PIPE WHERE SMOKE SEEMED TO BE ORIGINATING BUT DON'T KNOW WHAT IT IS CALLED. WHEN SMOKE CLEARED AND I DIDN'T SEE ANYTHING LEAKING UNDER THE CAR, I STARTED TO DRIVE AS CALLED SERVICE STATION A FEW BLOCKS AWAY. THEY SAID TO BRING IT OVER BUT UPON DRIVING ABOUT 50 MORE FEET SMOKE GOT WORSE; BECAME THICKER AND BLACK. I STOPPED AND TURNED ENGINE OFF AND GOT OUT OF THE CAR AND WHEN I TURNED TO LOOK AT THE CAR, IT WAS ALREADY UP IN FLAMES COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. IT TOOK ONLY A COUPLE OF MINUTES AND THE ENTIRE CAR WAS ABLAZE. *TR

I PURCHASED THIS JEEP BECAUSE I WAS TOLD IT NEEDED A TRANSMISSION, THESE ARE THE SYMPTOMS, WHEN YOU FIRST START THE TRUCK AND YOU PUT IT IN REVERSE, THE ENGINE KILLS. YOU START THE TRUCK UP AGAIN AND PUT IT IN REVERSE, IT VIBRATES AND THE ENGINE WANTS TO DIE BUT THE COMPUTER TRIES TO INCREASE THE RPM TO PREVENT IT FROM DYING, YOU THEN HAVE TO APPLY THE BRAKES HARD, WHEN YOU PUT IT IN NEUTRAL, THE RPMS ARE AT ABOUT 2000 AND THEN THEY COME DOWN. WHEN YOU TRY DRIVING THE CAR FORWARD IT HAS A VIBRATION AND WHEN YOU ARE COMING TO A STOP, IT DOES NOT WANT TO STOP, ITS AS THE COMPUTER IS REVING THE ENGINE LIKE IT DOES IN REVERSE. I HAVE HAD THE TRANSMISSION REBUILT AND IT DID THE SAME THING, THEY HAVE TAKEN THIS TRANSMISSION OUT 4 TIMES, CHANGED EVERYTHING IN IT 3 TIMES, GOT ANOTHER TRANSMISSION AND PUT ALL THE NEW PARTS IN THAT ONE AND STILL THE SAME PROBLEM. I REPLACED THE TCM FROM A SAME YEAR GRAND CHEROKKE, HAD THE DEALER FLASH THE COMPUTER AND STILL THE SAME, HAD THE TRY TO DIAGNOSE IT AND THEY THOUGT IT WAS THE MAP SENSOR, BECAUSE OF THE RPM PROBLEM, I CHANGED IT AND STILL THE SAME PROBLEM. AFTER ALL THESE CHANGES, THE TRUCK NOW RUNS FINE FOR A FEW MINUTES, BUT WHEN IT WARMS UP, THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURS, IM NOT SURE IF THATS BECAUSE THE WHEATHER IS COOLER NOW. I HAVE SO MUCH MONEY TIED UP IN THIS TRUCK AND BESIDES THIS PROBLEM, THE TRUCK IS IN GREAT CONDITION AND RUNS GREAT, CAN SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP ME. *TR

CHRYSLER STATES THAT THIS IS NOT A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE GRAND CHEROKEE AND THAT THEY ARE "NO LONGER RESPONSIBLE FOR THE CAR" AND THAT I WILL HAVE TO PAY THE BILL. THE SERVICE PERSON SUGGESTED THAT I TRY A LOCAL GARAGE THAT WOULD GIVE ME A BETTER PRICE THAN THE $852.00 + TAX ESTIMATE THAT THE DEALERSHIP QUOTED TO REPLACE THE MANIFOLD. THIS CAR IS NOT AN OFF-ROAD VEHICLE AND HAS ( WITH THE EXCEPTION OF TWO 1 1/2 HOUR TRIPS TO NYC WHICH INVOLVED HIGHWAY TRAVEL) BEEN DRIVEN EXCLUSIVELY ON LOCAL ROADS/STREETS.*AK

DRIVING OH THE HIGHWAY AT APPROX 65MPH HEARD A STRANGE NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL, ENGINE WAS POWERING DOWN. PULLED OVER TO THE SHOULDER. SMOKE AND FLAMES ENGULFED THE CAR . VEHILCE WAS TOTALLED. DEALER WAS CONTACTED. *AK
MY JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE IS 2-WHEEL DRIVE AND IS NOT TAKEN OFF-ROAD NOR OTHERWISE DRIVEN ABUSIVELY. DESPITE THIS I HAVE HAD FOUR (4) ENGINE MOUNT FAILURES SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. SOME OF THE FAILING MOUNTS WERE MOUNTS THAT WERE PREVIOUSLY REPLACED. IN ADDITION, THE FAILED ENGINE MOUNTS HAVE CAUSED OTHER DAMAGE TO THE TRANSMISSION MOUNTS AND OTHER ENGINE PARTS WHICH I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE. THE MAINTENANCE TECH AT LITHIA JEEP INFORMED ME THAT THE ENGINE MOUNT FAILURES WERE A COMMON PROBLEM BUT WWERE NOT ADDRESSED IN ANY RECALL OR INTERNAL CHRYSLER COMMUNICATION TO THE CUSTOMERS. I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE MY REPLACEMENT COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH THE ENGINE MOUNTS AND RELATED REPAIRS RETURNED AND WOULD LIKE TO HAVE IMPROVED ENGINE MOUNTS INSTALLED.
BEGINNING SPRING OF 98 VEHICLE BEGAN TO STUMBLE-EVER SO SLIGHTLY. BY LATE SPRING IT WAS CUTTING OUT. THIS WAS AT ABOUT 50K. I HAD IT TUNED UP. THE PROBLEM CONTINUTED UNTIL IT BEGAN TO ACTUALLY STALL, ESPECIALLY AT HIGH RATES OF SPEED. IT WOULD ALWAYS RESTART-IN PARK-RIGHT AWAY. THIS PROGRESSED TO STALLING AT ANY SPEED AND TAKING LONGER AND LONGER TO RESTART. ON ONE PARTICULAR TRIP THIS SPRING, WE RAN DOWN THE BATTERY TRYING TO GET IT STARTED AND WERE SOLD A "DEALER" BATTERY, TO FIX THE PROBLEM. TWO BLOCKS FROM THE SHOP IT STALLED AGAIN. IT HAS BEEN IN ONE SHOP FOR A WEEK, AND ANOTHER ON 3 SEPARATE OCCASSIONS. THE LAST VISIT WAS FOR BATTERY CABLE CLAMPS AND A FUEL FILTER. WELL THE NEXT DAY I DROVE MY USUAL 371/2 MILES TO WORK, 12 HOURS LATER I WENT OUT STARTED IT AND DROVE ABOUT 6 MILES, PARKED. HALF HOUR LATER, IT WOULD NOT START. AFTER 1 3/4 HOURS LATER IT STARTED, 5 MI LATER STOPPED FOR A LIGHT AND IT STALLED, IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREE FOR 1/2 HOUR. IT STARTED AND I HAD NO PROBLEMS THE REMAINDER OF THE MILES HOME AT 70MPH. THERE IS SO SET SPEED WITH THESE STALLS OR WARNINGS. RECENTLY IT RESTARTED ITSELF, AS I WAS COASTING TO A SAFE SHOULDER AREA. NOW IT'S PARKED AGAIN, I'M VERY AFRAID TO DRIVE IT ANYMORE. CRACK WAS FOUND ON EXHAUST MANIFOLD DURING ANNUAL SAFETY INSPECTION. THIS REQUIRED REPLACEMENT DUE TO HAZARD OF EXHAUST GAS LEAKAGE. DEALER AND CHRYSLER CORP. REP. ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THESE CRACKS ARE OCCURING. CUSTOMER SERVICE REP. INDICATED THAT CRACKS ARE OCCURING ON VEHICLES USED FOR TOWING OR OFF-ROAD USE. MY VEHICLE WAS NEVER USED FOR TOWING OR OFF-ROAD USE. THE CRACK OCCURS ABOVE THE WELD NEAR THE CONNECTION TO THE EXHAUST PIPE. THIS IS A STRESS FRACTURE DUE TO FLEXING OF THE EXHAUST SYSTEM AND EXTREME HEAT ACCORDING TO CHRYSLER.
THE AIR CONDITIONER AND HORNS WENT OUT IMMEDIATELY. THEY CAN'T SEEM TO FIND OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE AIR CONDITIONER. I WAS TOLD "O"-RINGS, GOT NEW ONES PUT ON. THEN IT WORKED WELL FOR 3 OR 4 DAYS. THEN IT STARTED NOT PUTTING OUT COLD AIR AGAIN. STILL NOT FIXED. THEY CONTINUE ADDING THAT NEW STUFF. THEY PUT IN, I FORGOT WHAT IT'S CALLED. THE HORNS I USED 3 DAYS A WEEK PRIOR. AS I PICKED UP MY NIECE TO TAKE HER TO SCHOOL. THEN, ON TOP OF IT ALL, THE ALTERNATOR AND WATER PUMP WENT OUT HAD TO REPLACE THEM. THE BATTERY DIED TO, 11 MONTHS OLD, REPLACED. I FEEL THIS WAS ALL DUE TO THE CAR ACCIDENT. ACCORDING TO MOST MECHANICS, IT'S NORMAL WEAR. *AK

WHILE DRIVING A FIRE STARTED IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. NO ONE HAS INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AS TO WHY TO VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE. CAUSE UNKNOWN. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK
ENGINE FAILED WHILE DRIVING.
MOTOR KNOCKS--DEALER CONTACTED, STATED JEEP ISSUED A MEMO CONCERNING THIS PROBLEM, DEALER UNWILLING TO RESOLVE ISSUE.
VEHICLE WILL START TO STALL AND SOMETIMES DIE OUT WITHOUT NOTIFICATION. WOULD TAKE 20 MINUTES TO 1 HOUR BEFORE STARTING BACK UP, DEALER CANNOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *AK
TRAVELING AT APPROX. 6 MPH VEHICLE LURCHED FORWARD AND SOUNDED AS IF THE ENGINE HIT THE GROUND. UPON INVESTIGATION NOTICED ENGINE BRACKET BOLT WAS COMPLETELY SPLIT IN TWO. ENGINE DROPPED APPROX 2 INCHES ON PASSENGER SIDE. ENGINE IS NOW RESTION ON DISTRIBUTOR AND ON STEERING LINKAGE.
ENGINE FAILED RESULTING IN VEHICLE FIRE.
VEHICLE MAIN ENGINE SEAL FAILED CAUSING OIL LEAKAGE.
WATER PUMP FAILED, RESULTING IN LEAKAGE.
VALVE BODY AND OXYGEN SENSOR FAILED CAUSING HESITATION.

SERPENTINE BELT FAILED.
OXYGEN SENSOR FAILED.
WHEN TRANSMISSION WAS SHIFTED FROM PARK INTO DRIVE GEAR WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSED , ENGINE REVVED LOUDLY/ JOLTED FORWARD AND CAUSED ACCIDENT.
PISTONS FAILED/NOISY.
MOTOR MOUNTS BROKE.
REPLACE CRACKED EXHAUST MANIFOLD.
EXHAUST MANIFOLD CRACKED.
ENGINE MOUNTS FAILED.
LOW IDLE CAUSED ENGINE TO SHUT DOWN.
ENGINE CUTS OFF AROUND 1800 RPMS WHEN CRUISE CONTROL IS ENGAGED OR WHEN HOLDING VEHICLE AT SPEED.
VEHICLE STALLS WHEN TRYING TO MERGE ONTO THE INTERSTATE. CONTACTED THE DEALER. *AK
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE HEARD A NOISE. CONSUMER STATED THAT THE SHROUD HIT THE FAN AND THE ENGINE MOUNTS BROKE. CONSUMER CONTACTED THE DEALER AND HAD THE VEHICLE REPAIRED. *AK

JEEP WAS PARK IN GARAGE FOUND IT LEAKING OIL TOOK TO DEALER OIL IS LEAKING IN FOUR PLACES. TT
