WAS DRIVING THROUGH MY NEIGHBORHOOD ON MY WAY TO A BUDDY'S HOUSE A FEW BLOCKS AWAY, I HIT A SMALL PUDDLE ON MY WAY AND MY ENGINE JUST SEIZED UP AND EVERYTHING WENT BALLISTIC. MEASURED THE PUDDLE AND IT WAS A WHOPPING INCH AND A HALF DEEP. HAD MY BUDDY TOW ME BACK HOME TO CHECK IT OUT AND LOW AND BEHOLD, THERE IT WAS, ROD #1 STICKING RIGHT THROUGH MY OIL PAN ABOUT AN INCH. BENT TO HIGH [XXX] AND SHEARED RIGHT OFF (NOTE: ALSO NOTICED THE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS SAID "JAPAN" AND WHEN I PULLED THE OIL PAN AND PULLED THE ROD, IN BIG BOLD LETTERS "CHINA" STAMPED ON THE ROD") NOW I HAVE A 6000LB PAPER WEIGHT SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY THAT I CAN DO NOTHING WITH. NOW IF JEEP ADVERTISES THAT THEIR VEHICLES ARE SAFE IN WATER UP TO 20 INCHES, WHY DID AN INCH AND A HALF DEEP PUDDLE HYDROLOCK MY ENGINE RESULTING IN ROD #1 BEING SHOT THROUGH THE OIL PAN AND ALL ELECTRONICS FRIED? HMMMM INTERESTING. ALSO NOTICE HOW THE FOREIGN MASS MARKET PARTS WERE THE ONLY ONES TO FAIL. SEEMS A LITTLE FISHY. THIS VEHICLE HAS COST US OVER $3,000 IN THE FIRST 1 YEAR AND HALF WE HAVE OWNED IT. I HAVE NEVER OWNED A VEHICLE WITH THIS LITTLE OF MILEAGE AND HAD EVERYTHING GO UP. WE FEEL THIS AUTO IS A TOTAL LEMON AND PEOPLE SHOULD BE MADE AWARE OF THE PROBLEMS OF THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE. WE HAVE NEVER TOWED ANYTHING NOR HAD IT ON ANYTHING OTHER SURFACE OTHER THAN A PAVED ROAD. I'M NOT SURE WHAT IF ANYTHING YOU CAN DO FOR US, BUT LETTING THE NHTSA KNOW ABOUT THIS VEHICLE IS SOME REASSURANCE. I SENT A DETAILED LETTER TO DAIMLER CHRYSLER AFTER BEING REFUSED BY DEALER. THEY ONLY REFUNDED MY MONEY FOR THE COST OF THE FRONT ROTORS. THEY WOULD NOT REIMBURSE ME FOR THE LABOR CHARGES. I CAN'T UNDERSTAND HOW THEY CAN DO THAT WHEN I HAD THEM REPLACED BEFORE THE RECALL. THAT SHOULD SHOW THERE IS A PROBLEM. I WROTE ABOUT ALL MY PROBLEMS WITH THIS "LEMON" BUT I COULD NOT CLAIM IT WAS A LEMON BECAUSE I WAS LEASING IT AT THE TIME AND IN PA, A VEHICLE CAN ONLY BE DECLARED A "LEMON" WHEN IT IS PURCHASED, NOT LEASED. VERY DISSATISFIED WITH DAIMLER/CHRYSLER BECAUSE THEY SIMPLY WASHED THEIR HANDS OF THE ENTIRE PROBLEM. AIR BAG LIGHT COMES ON, DOOR LOCKS CYCLE AND WINDOWS WILL NOT OPERATE. THE ONBOARD COMPUTER RECORDS THE FAULT. THIS HAS OCCURED MANY TIMES OVER THE LAST 28,000 MILES. THE DEALER HAS REPLACED MOST OF THE AIR BAG ELEMENTS TWICE AND THE DOOR LOCK SWITCHES. THE JEEP HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER 9 TIMES, WORKED ON FOR 59 DAYS, DRIVEN BY THE DEALER 1141 PLUS MILES AND THE FAILURE OBSERVED BY THE DEALER. THE FAILURE STILL EXISTS.

1) DIFFERENTIAL RING & PINION GEAR FAILING. CAUSES SIGNIFICANT PULSATION/VIBRATION, MOST SEVERE AT 50-70 MPH. HAS WORSENED OVER PAST MONTH. AWAITING REPLACEMENT (2) WHILE ACCELERATING, TRANSMISSION SHIFTS BACK AND FORTH BTWN 1ST AND 2ND 2-3 TIMES TIMES BEFORE FINALLY SETTLING INTO 2ND. (3) 4WD TRANSFER CASE VERY HARD TO GET INTO FULL TIME 4WD. ALSO, VERY HARD TO GET OUT OF ANY 4WD MODE (BACK TO 2WD). INDICATOR SHOWS 2WD MODE WHEN TRUCK STILL IN 4-WD, REQUIRES VIOLENT REVERSING TO GET OUT OF 4WD. (4) LEFT REAR DOOR INTERIOR VINYL PANEL HAS COME APART TWICE, REPAIRED BOTH TIMES.
SUNROOF RUSTED OUT- REPLACED BY DEALER, AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCKS FAILED AND VINYL PANELING PEELED- BOTH THING REPLACED BY DEALER. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON FOR NO REASON- SENSOR REPLACED TWICE BY DEALER.
PULLED ON TO HIGHWAY FROM DRIVEWAY PROCEED ABOUT 1 BLOCK WHEN THE HOOD FLEW VOILENTLY OPEN. THERE WERE NO CARS IN FRONT OF ME AND A TRUCK AND 2 AUTOS BEHIND ME I GOT THE JEEP TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND STOPPED. THE SAFETY LATCH AND THE REGULAR LATCH FAILED. I AM BEING TOLD IT IS NOT A PROBLEM AND THEREFORE THE MANUFACTER IS NOT GOING TO TAKE ANY RESPONISIBLITY FOR THE $1067 BODY SHOP ESTIMATE OR MY FRAYED NERVES. I FOUND TWO OR 3 OTHER HOOD PROBLEMS LISTED ON YOUR WEBSITE BUT CAN TELL IF THEY ARE SIMILAR. THANKS FOR ANY LIGHT YOU CAN SHED ON THIS PROBLEM. I AM LEFT WITH THE FEELING FROM THE JEEP PEOPLE THAT I DID SOMETHING WRONG AND THEY DON'T CARE TO HELP. THE SAFETY LATCH NEVER CAUGHT OR AT LEAST IT DIDN'T HOLD , AND THERE WAS NOT EVIDENCE OF DAMAGE TO EITHER LATCH.
