I DON'T KNOW THE DATE OF WHEN CHRYSLER HAD THE RECALL ON THE FUEL SYSTEM. THEY WERE GOING TO PUT ON AN (OEM) TRAILER HITCH WHERE APPROPRIATE, FREE OF CHARGE. THE PARTS REQUIRED WERE CURRENTLY NOT AVAILABLE. I BOUGHT A TRAILER HITCH AND HAD IT INSTALLED. I THEN TOOK IT TO JEFF WYLER JEEP IN FORT THOMAS KY. THEY INSPECTED IT AND PASSED IT. (PERFORM RECALL N45) I CALLED YOUR CUSTOMER SERVICE AND ASKED IF I WOULD BE PAID BACK FOR THE PART, THEY SAID NO BECAUSE IT WAS NOT AN (OEM) PART. PLEASE MAKE THIS RIGHT, I HAVE NOW TAKEN OFF THE PART I BOUGHT, AND ASKING YOU TO EITHER PAY ME FOR THE PART, WHICH WAS $316.00 WITH LABOR, OR SET UP A DATE AND TIME TO A DEALER TO PUT THE RIGHT PART ON. THAT IS ALL I AM ASKING FOR, I HAVE WAITED SO LONG FOR THIS,AND EVERY DAY I WORRY ABOUT IT BEING SO DANGEROUS. I DON'T THINK I AM ASKING TO MUCH. I JUST WANT IT FIXED RIGHT, AND THE RIGHT PART ON. TURNED KEY OFF AND ON SEVERAL TIMES TRYING TO TURN STEERING TO FOLLOW CURVE. LUCKILY SUNDAY NIGHT TRAFFIC WAS LIGHT OR COULD HAVE RESULTED IN ACCIDENT. ENGINE FINALLY STARTED UP AND STEERING PRESSURE WAS RESTORED. KEPT RPM OVER 2500RPM FOR A COUPLE OF MINUTES AND CAR BUCKED A NUMBER OF TIMES IN THE FIRST 5 OR SO MINUTES. RAN SMOOTHLY AFTERWARDS WITH ENGINE RPM KEPT HIGHER (2500+). HAD TO GET OFF THE HIGHWAY AND FOLLOW SIDE STREETS TO GET HOME. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN OCCURRING FOR 3000-4000 MILES AND I'VE HAD NEARLY EVERYTHING REPLACED, COIL, SPARK PLUGS, PLUG WIRES, DISTRIBUTOR ROTOR, DISTRIBUTOR CAP, STARTING ON SENSORS NOW. *TR

I HAVE A 1997 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE THAT STALLS. HOT OR COLD, NIGHT OR DAY, IDLING AT A LIGHT OR GOING 75MPH DOWN THE INTERSTATE. I HAVE HAD THE FUEL PUMP REPLACED, THE FUEL SYSTEM CLEANED, THE O2 SENSOR REPLACES, THE WATER PUMP REPLACED, THE CRANK SENSOR REPLACED, THE MAP SENSOR REPLACED, AND THE IGNITION COIL REPLACED (I DO STILL HAVE THE OLD IGNITION COIL). IT'S IN THE SHOP NOW, AND AFTER DOING SOME ONLINE RESEARCH, I HAVE FOUND HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM, MOST OF THEM BEING CHARGED AN OUTRAGEOUS AMOUNT OF MONEY BY JEEP DEALERS WHO, ULTIMATELY, DO NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. I WOULD NOT BE SO CONCERNED, BUT LIKE MANY JEEP OWNERS, I HAVE SMALL CHILDREN. THE PROBLEM STARTED ALMOST A YEAR AGO, HAPPENS DAILY, AND IF IT SHOULD HAPPEN ON A BUSY ROAD OR HIGHWAY WHEN I AM GOING 60+MPH, I AM CONCERNED ABOUT MY SAFETY AND THAT OF MY KIDS. *TR

WE WERE TOLD THAT OUR PARTICULAR VEHICLE WASN'T PART OF THE RECALL. ON THE PAGE THAT I RECEIVE THE INFO ON THE RECALL THRU NHTSA.GOV, IT DIDN'T SPECIFY WHICH ONE, IT JUST STATES 1997-2004, JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE AND JEEP WRANGLER, SO WE NEED TO MAKE SURE THAT CHRYSLER IS NOT TRYING TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE SITUATION AND NOT REPAIR THE VEHICLE. HOW IS IT THAT OUR VEHICLE IS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AS THE ONES THAT IS UNDER THE RECALL. I SPOKE WITH TWO REPRESENTATIVES AT CHRYSLER AND I WAS TOLD THAT THE VEHICLE THAT WE OWNED HAD A FUEL PUMP REPLACED IN 2000 AND I'M NOT SURE IF THAT'S TRUE, BECAUSE THE RECALL WASN'T UNTIL LAST YEAR. *JB

I PURCHASED THIS 1997, JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE FROM BROADWAY VOLKSWAGEN ON AUTO ROW IN OAKLAND CA. AT THE TIME THE ODOMETER READ 48,080K. TWO WEEKS AGO THE CAR STOPPED RUNNING WHILE I WAS DRIVING IT. I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO ALBERA BROS. JEEP/CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP WHERE I?VE TAKEN THE VEHICLE SINCE I PURCHASED IT. I ALSO PURCHASED A WARRANTY, FOR $1500 AT THE TIME THAT I PURCHASE THE VEHICLE, WHICH WAS CONTAINED IN THE CONTRACT OF THE AUTOMOBILE INSTALLMENT PAYMENTS. THE WARRANTY WAS TO COVER ALL REPAIR THAT IS COVER FOR 72 MONTHS OR 100K MILES. I CONTACTED THE WARRANTY COMPANY, WARENTECH, WHO'S HEADQUARTERS ARE IN TEXAS AND WAS ADVISED THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO SEND SOMEONE OUT TO LOOK AT THE CAR. SOMEONE DID COME OUT LOOK AT THE CAR AND TOOK PICTURES. AFTER A FEW DAYS I CONTACTED WARENTECH AND WAS ADVISED THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO REVIEW THE INFORMATION AND WOULD GET BACK TO ME. AFTER SEVERAL MORE DAYS I CONTACTED WARENTECH AGAIN. I WAS ADVISED THAT THEY NEEDED ME FAX THEM MY MAINTENANCE RECORDS VERIFYING THAT I HAD MAINTAINED THE VEHICLE. I FAXED WARENTECH COPIES OF ALL RECENT MAINTENANCE RECORDS. AFTER TWO OR THREE MORE DAYS, I ONCE AGAIN CONTACTED WARENTECH AND WAS ADVISED THAT I NEEDED TO SEND MORE MAINTENANCE RECORDS AND IF I DIDN'T HAVE ANYMORE THEY WOULD DENY COVERAGE FOR REPAIR TO THE VEHICLE. I FAXED OVER A TOTAL OF 13 MORE RECORDS OF MAINTENANCE VERIFYING THAT OIL CHANGES AS WELL AS OTHER MAINTENANCE RECORDS. THAT WAS TWO DAYS AGO AND I?VE NOT HEARD ANYTHING FROM WARENTECH SINCE. I HAVE ALREADY PAID $125 DOLLARS TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND HAVE PAID ANOTHER $140 FOR A RENTAL CAR TO GET TO AND FROM WORK. I AM VERY AFRAID THAT WARENTECH IS GOING TO REFUSE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS THEY'VE ALREADY HAD ALMOST 2-WEEKS AND NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE. VEHICLE EXPERIENCED TOTAL FAILURE AT 65 MPH. I WAS TOLD THIS WAS DUE TO A CORRODING FUEL TANK, CAUSED BY ADDITIVES USED BY GAS MANUFACTURERS. APPARENTLY THE CORRODING TANK "PIECES/SLIVERS/SHARDS/ETC." CLOG THE FUEL FILTER/FUEL PUMP AND DOES NOT ALLOW FUEL TO REACH THE ENGINE. CHRYSLER HAS SINCE CHANGED THE CONSTRUCTION OF THEIR TANK TO ACCOUNT FOR THIS PROBLEM. HOWEVER, I HAD TO WAIT IN EXCESS OF 2 WEEKS FOR A TANK BECAUSE OF A (QUOTE FORM THE DEALER) "NATIONAL BACKORDER" ON FUEL TANKS. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION, I HAVE FOUND THIS TO BE A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM (IT'S WHAT'S CAUSING THE BACKORDER, AS BEST AS I CAN DETERMINE). THE WARRANTY COMPANY I HAVE EXTENDED COVERAGE THROUGH (WYNNS), TOLD ME THAT THEY ARE SO FAMILIAR WITH IT THAT THEY HAVE INSTITUTED A PROCEDURE TO DENY ANY CLAIM ARISING TO CHRYSLER TANKS SINCE IT IS A PROBLEM STEMMING FROM THE CHRYSLER DESIGN. MY REAL PROBLEM ARISES FROM THE FACT THAT WHILE THIS ISSUE IS SO FAR REACHING TO CAUSE A NATIONAL BACKORDER ON CHRYSLER TANKS, GETTING CHRYSLER AS A CORPORATION TO ADMIT THE PROBLEM IS IMPOSSIBLE (OF COURSE) ALTHOUGH THE LOCAL JEEP DEALER IS AWARE OF IT. IF IT IS A KNOWN PROBLEM, I AS A CONSUMER SHOULD HAVE RECEIVED SOME NOTICE ABOUT POTENTIALLY CORROSIVE TANKS, OR PERHAPS THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS ITEM. THE FUEL TANK FAILURE CAUSES A COMPLETE STOPPAGE OF THE VEHICLE, AS I LEARNED TRAVELLING 65 MPH ON RTE. 81S IN PENNSYLVANIA WITH MY 7 MONTH PREGNANT WIFE AND 1.5 YEAR OLD SON IN THE CAR. I THANKFULLY WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, BUT IT WAS INOPERABLE THEREAFTER. I HAVE SINCE HAD THE TANK, FUEL PUMP, FUEL FILTER, AND O2 SENSOR REPLACED AT A COST OF $1023. FUEL SENDING UNIT FAILED WHILE TURNING AT A VERY BUSY INTERSECTION. THIS CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO STALL WHICH POTENTIALLY COULD OF CAUSED A FATALITY. JEEP REPLACED THE UNIT AND WE HAVE NOT HAD A PROBLEM SINCE. THIS VEHICLE ALWAYS LEAKS FUEL WHEN FILLED DESPITE NOT BEING "TOPPED OFF". I WILL AWAKEN IN THE MORNING TO A PUDDLE OF GAS UNDER THE CAR. I FEEL THAT MY GARAGE MAY EXPLODE ONE DAY. THESE ARE TWO VERY SERIOUS PROBLEMS RELATING SAFETY. OVERALL, THIS VEHICLE HAS POOR ATTENTION PAID TO DETAIL. I HAVE HAD MANY MORE PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE COMPARED TO THE ENTIRE LIFE OF MY USED ACURA WITH 120,000 MILES.

WAS DRIVING VEHICLE & ONCE AGAIN SENDING UNIT FAILED. TOOK IT BACK TO DEALER, AND THAT UNIT REPLACED WITH ANOTHER. THE 3RD SENDING UNIT FAILED ON VEHICLE. *AK

EXHAUST PIPE BENT & RUBBED AGAINST THE PLASTIC GAS TANK WHICH CAUSED A HOLE THAT ALLOWED A LEAK. TOOK TO DEALER & WAS INFORMED OWNER NEEDS METAL PIECE BETWEEN TANK & EXHAUST. MANUFACTURER NOT TAKING RESPONSIBILITY OF FINANCIAL REPLACEMENT. *AK CONSUMER WAS NEVER MADE AWARE OF THE SKIP PLATE OPTION, REQUESTING REIMBURSMENT. TRANSMISSION HAS A PAUSE WHEN UPSHIFTING FROM 2 TO 3, WHEN IN 4WD, THE LEFT WHEEL GRINDS WHEN TURNING. THE RIGHT FRONT POWER LOCK MADE A GRINDING NOISE WHEN POWER DOOR LOCKS WERE ACTUATED, DEALER INSTALLED NEW DOOR LATCH ASSEMBLY. STEERING WHEEL WAS NOT CENTERED, CAUSING VEHICLE TO DRIFT TO THE LEFT WHILE DRIVING. *SLC
