MY DEALERSHIP WOULD NOT ADDRESS RECALL N45 WITHOUT CHARGING ME TO FIX SOME CORROSION DAMAGE. N45 IS A SAFETY RECALL. THERE'S LITERALLY NO REASON WHY FCA SHOULDN'T PAY TO FIX THE VEHICLE TO MAKE IT SAFE AGAIN.

ON JANUARY 18TH 2014 I WAS PARKED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE ROADS WERE SOMEWHAT ICY AND MY JEEP WAS REAR ENDED BY A 2005 HYUNDAI SANTA FE. THE DAMAGE SUSTAINED TO THE JEEP INCLUDED A BENT BUMPER AND BENT FRAME, RESULTING IN THE FRAME BEING PUSHED UP AGAINST THE FUEL TANK, CAUSING THE FUEL PUMP TO BECOME FAULTY AND A SLIGHT AMOUNT OF FUEL TO LEAK OUT FROM THE TOP. THERE IS A CURRENT RECALL ON THIS MODEL YEAR GRAND CHEROKEE DUE TO A POTENTIAL FIRE BEING CAUSED FROM REAR-END COLLISIONS FROM THE GAS TANK; HOWEVER I DID NOT BECOME AWARE OF THE RECALL UNTIL AFTER THE ACCIDENT OCCURRED. CHRYSLER'S POOR HANDLING OF THE RECALL AND THEIR POOR NOTIFICATION SYSTEM MADE IT SO THAT THE JEEP WAS NOT ABLE TO BE PROPERLY REPAIRED. NOW, BECAUSE OF THE DAMAGE, THE RECALL FIX WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO HAPPEN BECAUSE THE REAR BUMPER AND FRAME RECEIVED DAMAGE. THE VEHICLE, AS OF NOW, HAS YET TO BE REPAIRED. I CONTACTED CHRYSLER WITH THIS ISSUE AND THEY INDICATED TO ME THAT THERE IS NO PROOF THE DAMAGE COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED, IF THE RECALL FIX HAD HAPPENED. I WOULD LIKE TO GET THE VEHICLE FIXED, HOWEVER FINANCES PREVENT IT FROM DOING SO. BECAUSE OF THIS, THE RECALL FIX WILL NOT BE ABLE TO HAPPEN. I FEEL AS THOUGH IF CHRYSLER BETTER HANDLED THIS RECALL AND MADE THE FIX AVAILABLE PRIOR TO 2014, THE DAMAGE SUSTAINED TO MY JEEP WOULD HAVE NOT OCCURRED.

THE PARTS REQUIRED WERE CURRENTLY NOT AVAILABLE. I BOUGHT A TRAILER HITCH AND HAD IT INSTALLED. I THEN TOOK IT TO JEFF WYLER JEEP IN FORT THOMAS KY. THEY INSPECTED IT AND PASSED IT. (PERFORM RECALL N45) I CALLED YOUR CUSTOMER SERVICE AND ASKED IF I WOULD BE PAID BACK FOR THE PART, THEY SAID NO BECAUSE IT WAS NOT AN (OEM) PART. PLEASE MAKE THIS RIGHT, I HAVE NOW TAKEN OFF THE PART I BOUGHT, AND ASKING YOU TO EITHER PAY ME FOR THE PART, WHICH WAS $316.00 WITH LABOR, OR SET UP A DATE AND TIME TO A DEALER TO PUT THE RIGHT PART ON. I PURCHASED THIS 1997, JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE FROM BROADWAY VOLKSWAGEN ON AUTO ROW IN OAKLAND CA. AT THE TIME THE ODOMETER READ 48,080K. TWO WEEKS AGO THE CAR STOPPED RUNNING WHILE I WAS DRIVING IT. I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO ALBERA BROS. JEEP/CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP WHERE I?VE TAKEN THE VEHICLE SINCE I PURCHASED IT. I ALSO PURCHASED A WARRANTY, FOR $1500 AT THE TIME THAT I PURCHASE THE VEHICLE, WHICH WAS CONTAINED IN THE CONTRACT OF THE AUTOMOBILE INSTALLMENT PAYMENTS. THE WARRANTY WAS TO COVER ALL REPAIR THAT IS COVER FOR 72 MONTHS OR 100K MILES. I CONTACTED THE WARRANTY COMPANY, WARENTECH, WHO'S HEADQUARTERS ARE IN TEXAS AND WAS ADVISED THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO SEND SOMEONE OUT TO LOOK AT THE CAR. SOMEONE DID COME OUT LOOK AT THE CAR AND TOOK PICTURES. AFTER A FEW DAYS I CONTACTED WARENTECH AND WAS ADVISED THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO REVIEW THE INFORMATION AND WOULD GET BACK TO ME. AFTER SEVERAL MORE DAYS I CONTACTED WARENTECH AGAIN. I WAS ADVISED THAT THEY NEEDED ME FAX THEM MY MAINTENANCE RECORDS VERIFYING THAT I HAD MAINTAINED THE VEHICLE. I FAXED WARENTECH COPIES OF ALL RECENT MAINTENANCE RECORDS. AFTER TWO OR THREE MORE DAYS, I ONCE AGAIN CONTACTED WARENTECH AND WAS ADVISED THAT I NEEDED TO SEND MORE MAINTENANCE RECORDS AND IF I DIDN'T HAVE ANYMORE THEY WOULD DENY COVERAGE FOR REPAIR TO THE VEHICLE. I FAXED OVER A TOTAL OF 13 MORE RECORDS OF MAINTENANCE VERIFYING THAT OIL CHANGES AS WELL AS OTHER MAINTENANCE RECORDS. THAT WAS TWO DAYS AGO AND I?VE NOT HEARD ANYTHING FROM WARENTECH SINCE. I HAVE ALREADY PAID $125 DOLLARS TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND HAVE PAID ANOTHER $140 FOR A RENTAL CAR TO GET TO AND FROM WORK. I AM VERY AFRAID THAT WARENTECH IS GOING TO REFUSE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS THEY'VE ALREADY HAD ALMOST 2-WEEKS AND NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE. I READ IN THE PAPER YOU WERE INVESTIGATING HOODS OPENING ON 1997 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEES. MY JEEP HOOD CAME OPEN WHILE I WAS DRIVING DOWN I-65 IN ALABAMA APPROXIMATELY AT THE DATE LISTED IN THE QUESTIONAIRE. THAT DATE IS AN ESTIMATE. I WAS DRIVING AT ABOUT 65 MPH WHEN THE HOOD POPPED UP, PARTIALLY OBSCURING MY VISION. I WAS NEAR AN EXIT, SO I MANAGED TO SAFELY GET OFF THE ROAD AND STOP AND RE-LATCH THE HOOD.
