TAKATA RECALL. SINCE OWNING MY 1998 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE 4.0, I'VE REPLACED NEARLY EVERY SINGLE PART ON IT. THE TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE RECALLED ON THIS VEHICLE BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED JUST TRYING TO DRIVE IT. THE TRANSMISSION WILL BE FINE 1 MINUTE, THE NEXT IT IS PUTTING ITSELF IN NEUTRAL OR DRIVE AND I'VE NEARLY DIED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. NOW, THE JEEP IS CODING MORE CODES THAN EVER. ALSO, AS OF FEW DAYS AGO, I HAVE NO REVERSE IN IT. I NEARLY HIT ANOTHER CAR TRYING TO BACK OUT OF A SPACE AT THE HOSPITAL WHEN REVERSE DECIDED TO NO LONGER WORK. I CAN'T AFFORD TO KEEP FIXING THESE ISSUES AND I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS BECAUSE I'M SURE I'M NOT THE ONLY PERSON THAT'S HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANSMISSION IN 1998 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE MODELS. ALSO, MY BACK PASSENGER DOORS HAVE DECIDED THEY WON'T OPEN FROM OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. YOU CAN ONLY OPEN THEM FROM INSIDE. WHAT IF SOMETHING HAPPENED AND I WAS TRAPPED, NOBODY COULD GET IN THROUGH THE PASSENGER BACK 2 DOORS BECAUSE THEY WON'T OPEN. AS FAR AS TRANSMISSION, MAYBE I'LL LIVE THROUGH ANOTHER INCIDENT WITH TRANSMISSION CHANGING GEARS ON IT'S OWN, BUT MAYBE I WON'T EITHER. THANK YOU.

MY INFO INDICATES ON 7/26/2015 ENFORCEMENT ACTION DOCUMENT REQUIRES THE VEHICLE BE ACTUALLY RATED AS TO THE AMOUNT OF RUST, AND IN MOST SITUATIONS THE HITCH CAN BE INSTALLED AFTER PROPER WELDING, RUST REMOVAL, ETC. I WENT IN TO HAVE THE RECALL OF MY 1998 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE DONE THIS MORNING (SAFETY RECALL N45/NHTSA 13V-252 REAR STRUCTURAL REINFORCEMENT), AND THE JEEP DEALER REFUSED TO INSTALL THE TRAILER HITCH PER THE RECALL SPECIFICATIONS. THEY SAID THAT IT LOOKED FINE AND PUT A STICKER ON IT AFTER MAKING ME WAIT FOR 2 HOURS. THIS, EVEN THOUGH THE AFTERMARKET HITCH THAT IS INSTALLED ON MINE IS SO CORRODED THAT THE BALL AND ATTACHMENT POINT CANNOT BE REMOVED. WHEN I REMINDED THE DEALER OF THE FACTS, AND THAT HAVING THE HITCH STICKING OUT THAT FAR FROM THE BACK EXACERBATES THE HAZARD THAT EXISTS, HE ACTUALLY SAID "THAT'S YOUR PROBLEM". SO IT APPEARS THAT ALL OF THESE DELAYS HAVE ACTUALLY BEEN CHRYSLER ACTING IN ACCORDANCE WITH ITS INTERNAL PLAN TO CERTIFY ALL INSTALLED TRAILER HITCHES AND NOT INSTALL NEW ONES. AND IN CASES LIKE MINE WHERE THE RISK IS EXACERBATED BY RUSTY SHARP HITCH COMPONENTS THAT MIGHT ACT AS A SPEAR TO PUNCTURE THE TANK, DEALERS COULD CARE LESS. WHEN I OBTAINED A COPY OF THE ACTUAL RECALL DOCUMENT I FOUND THAT CHRYSLER HAS CAREFULLY CRAFTED A DISINCENTIVE FOR DEALERS TO DO ANYTHING OTHER THAN SAY THAT ANY HITCH INSTALLED MEETS THE STANDARD. THEY GET PAID .4 HOURS FOR INSPECTING, BUT ONLY 1 HOUR FOR REMOVING A RUSTY HITCH AND INSTALLING A COMPLETELY NEW ONE, WHICH WOULD LIKELY TAKE TWO HOURS. THE MANAGER OF THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT THEY ARE LOSING MONEY ON EVERY HITCH THEY INSTALL AND THEY HAVE NO INTENTION OF MAKING HITCH WIRING WORK ON ANY OF THOSE INSTALLED. THE DEALERSHIP EVEN ADVISED ME TO TAKE MY HITCH OFF MYSELF AND COME BACK. WHAT A MONUMENTAL WASTE OF TIME - MINE AND YOURS, SINCE THEY ARE CLEARLY THUMBING THEIR NOSE AT THE LETTER AND SPIRIT OF THE NHTSA AGREEMENT. I APPRECIATE WHAT YOU ARE DOING HERE, BUT TO SAY IT'S NOT WORKING IS A PROFOUND UNDERSTATEMENT... *TR

I HAVE A 1998 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE THAT I LOVE. HOWEVER, MY FACTORY INSTALLED SUNROOF LEAKS (AND BY LEAKS I MEAN IT POURS RAIN ON ME). I HAVE TAKEN IT TO FIVE SEPARATE REPAIR SHOPS, INCLUDING A JEEP DEALERSHIP, AND EACH HAS TOLD ME THAT A SEAL FROM THE SUNROOF HAS BROKEN OFF AND IT WILL BE $600 AS THEY HAVE TO INSTALL A NEW GLASS PIECE WITH THE SEAL BUILT IN AS THAT IS THE ONLY WAY JEEP MAKES SUNROOFS NOW. THIS SEAL IS A KNOWN DEFECT, AS ADMITTED BY THE JEEP DEALERSHIP. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT IT IS SUCH A KNOWN DEFECT THAT YOU CAN ONLY BUY THE GLASS AND SEAL TOGETHER NOW.
