AT APPROXIMATELY 137,000 MILES, THE DRIVER'S SEAT FRAME SNAPPED AT TWO POINTS, CAUSING THE SEAT TO ROCK FROM SIDE TO SIDE WHEN ENTERING/EXITING AND WHEN MAKING SHARP TURNS. SINCE IT IS NOT ATTACHED TO THE FRAME AT THAT POINT, IT WILL NOT PASS INSPECTION. I WAS IN MOTION ON A BUSY CITY STREET ON THE WAY TO SCHOOL WHEN THE SEAT GAVE WAY AND STARTED MOVING.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO STOP THE VEHICLE AT 30 MPH, THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL WITH EXCESSIVE FORCE. AS A RESULT, THE SEAT DETACHED AND THE CONTACT WAS PINNED BETWEEN THE STEERING COLUMN AND SEAT. THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 205,000. THE VIN WAS NOT PROVIDED.

I HAVE ABOUT 192,000 MILES ...OWNED THE CAR SINCE 2001..ABOUT 1 YEAR AGO I NOTICED THE FRONT SEAT WAS BEGINNING TO WIGGLE...IN TIME UNTIL 10/14/15 WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE CHRYSLER DEATERSHIP (FRANICH) IN WATSONVILLE, CA. 95076 WHERE I WAS ADVISED I HAD A BROKEN FRAME ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT SEAT. THEIR ONLY SOLUTION WAS TO TRY AND SELL ME A WHOLE NEW SEAT ASSEMBLY...AT THE COST OF $750 WHICH WOULD HAVE REPRESENTED ABOUT 20% OF THE PRESENT VALUE (MY CAR IS IN SUPER CONDITION)...I ASKED IF THERE WAS ANOTHER PLACE I COULD GO....THE SERVICEMAN PUT ME ON HOLD AS HE SPOKE TO THE MANAGER..CAME BACK ON AND .SAID NO...AND ACTUALLY SENT ME ON MY WAY IN THAT UNSAFE CONDITION...NEVER ONCE DID THEY TELL ME THAT THERE HAVE BEEN SIMIIAR COMPLAINTS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AND THAT CHRYSLER WAS REFUSING THE NHTSA SUGGESTION FOR RECALLS FOR THIS UNSAFE CONDITION...HAD THEY AT LEAST TOLD ME...I WOULD HAVE BEGUN SEARCHING THE WEB FOR SOLUTIONS....LUCKILY, I HAD A RELATIVE FIX AND WELD THE PROBLEM FOR ME....HOWEVER, I DO NOT WANT ANY ONE ELSE TO SUFFER WITH THIS PROBLEM....AS A LOYAL JEEP OWNER I AM ASHAMED OF CHRYSLER TO NOT PROVIDE A FIX FOR US ALL....I PAID THE COST TO FIX...AND THEIR REPUTATION SHOULD BE SULLIED BY THEIR REFUSAL TO RECALL OR AT THE VERY LEAST HAVE A FIX IN PLACE ....I LOVE MY JEEP...I AM 73 YEARS OLD...COULD I HAVE DIED DUE TO THIS SAFETY ISSUE IF HIT BY ANOTHER AUTO ...HAS ANYONE ELSE SUFFERED?

I WAS DRIVING ALONG, AND MADE A LEFT TURN WHEN I HEARD A LOUD POP AND FELT MY DRIVER'S SEAT BECOME LOOSE. IT WOBBLES AROUND AND FEELS AS THOUGH IT WOULD GO FLYING AWAY IF I WERE TO BE STRUCK BY ANOTHER VEHICLE AT ANY TIME. IT MAKES THE CAR VERY HARD TO DRIVE AND FEELS VERY UNSAFE. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AS SOON AS I COULD GET IT THERE AND WAS TOLD THE PART TO FIX IT HAD BEEN DISCONTINUED. I WAS ADVISED TO GO AND TRY TO FIND A SEAT AT A PULL APART PLACE AND TAKE IT ALL TO AN UPHOLSTERER TO BE FIXED. I EXPLAINED THAT THE INTERNET WARNED AGAINST DOING THAT AS THE USED PART IS LIKELY TO BREAK AND THAT A FIX WAS AVAILABLE AT JEEP SEAT BRACKET DOT COM. I ASKED THE DEALERSHIP TO ORDER AND INSTALL THIS PART, AS I KNEW THAT CHRYSLER KNEW ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND HAD BEEN ASKED BY NHTSA FOR A RECALL AND HAS TO DATE REFUSED TO DO SO. I WAS ASKED TO LEAVE THE DEALERSHIP. *TR

DRIVING HOME FOLLOWING AND AS I WAS SLOWING FOR A CURVE IN A RESIDENTIAL AREA NEAR HOME THE SEAT GAVE WAY. I CHECKED AS BEST I COULD AND NOTICED SOME RUST AREAS ON THE CARPET, BOLTS, HOLDING THE SEAT FRAME & THE FRAME ITSELF (THERE WAS NO INTERIOR WATER LEAKS IN THE VEHICLE). THE SEAT HAS CONTINUED TO GIVE & BREAK. I CHECKED TO SEE IF A RECALL HAD BEEN MADE OR A SAFETY BULLETIN BEEN ISSUED AND FOUND IT HAD NOT, BUT THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE THAT HAD MADE INQUIRIES AND COMPLAINTS, MANY WITH MUCH SADDER CONSEQUENCES WHILE DRIVING AT SPEED ON INTERSTATES AND SUPERHIGHWAYS, WAS SIZABLE AND QUITE HONESTLY FRIGHTENING. AS I READ THESE AND SAW THAT AFTER THESE OTHER PERSONS SUFFERING THIS SAME OBVIOUSLY MANUFACTURING DEFECT HAD GONE TO THEIR DEALERSHIPS WITH THE DEALERS OFFERING TO REPAIR IT AT THE VEHICLE OWNERS EXPENSE ($700-$1200) AND FOR A TECHNICIAN TO CHECK THE SEAT AND BRACKET COULD COST A MINIMUM OF $60-$90/HR. I PERSONALLY DO NOT HAVE THAT KIND OF MONEY READILY AVAILABLE ESPECIALLY TO PAY FOR A MANUFACTURER'S ERROR THAT THEY HAVE BEEN AWARE OF FOR MORE THAN A DECADE! MY SOLUTION HAS BEEN TO LIMIT MY DRIVING TO GOING BACK AND FORTH TO WORK M-F (RUNNING BASIC ERRANDS DURING THESE DRIVES) WITH MY STAYING HOME ON WEEKENDS, AND ONLY MAKING TRIPS TO VISIT FAMILY THAT LIVE WITHIN 45 MILES EVERY TWO TO THREE MONTHS. LAST YEAR, I DROVE THIS, MY ONLY VEHICLE AT MY HOME, AROUND 3,300 MILES. THE QUALITY OF MY LIFE, I FEEL, HAS SUFFERED AS I HAVE BECOME RESTRICTED IN THE ABILITY TO SAFELY TRAVEL! I FEEL IT A TRAVESTY THAT THE CHRYSLER MOTOR COMPANY HAS KNOWN ABOUT AND HAS FAILED TO CARE ENOUGH ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THEIR VEHICLES TO DO THE RIGHT AND PROPER THING, RECALL AND REPLACE THESE MATERIALS. CURRENTLY @ 149K MILES WE HAVE NO HEAT ON THE DRIVER SIDE DUE TO BLEND DOOR ASSEMBLY, THE AIRBAG LIGHT GOES OFF ALL THE TIME AND THERE IS NO HEAT IN THE DRIVERS SIDE SEAT. I AM SHOCKED THAT SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE THE EXACT SAME ISSUES AND THAT TO ME SAYS THERE IS TRULY SOMETHING WRONG. WE ALSO TOOK PART IN A CLASS ACTION SUIT THAT COVERED SOME OF THE EXPENSES WE HAD IN CONTINUALLY REPLACING THE BRAKES - ESPECIALLY THE ROTORS WHICH WARP WITH OUT NOTICE AND CAN DO THAT IF YOU JUST STEP ON THE BRAKES TO HARD! THAT ONE LASTED 3 YEARS AND FAILED AND IT WAS REPAIRED ONCE. 6 MONTHS AGO IT FINAL FAILED AGAIN AND MY DRIVER SEAT BECAME A ROCKING CHAIR FOR THE 5TH TIME. IT WAS WELDED BY A PROFESSIONAL WELDER AND REPLACED. AT APPROXIMATELY 138,000 MILES IT BROKE AGAIN AND WILL HAVE TO BE WELDED AGAIN BUT I CANNOT AFFORD TO PAY TO HAVE IT FIXED RIGHT NOW. I RESEARCHED AND FOUND THAT THIS IS A VERY, VERY COMMON COMPLAINT AND SAFETY ISSUE ON MY MODEL-99 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. (2) AT APPROXIMATELY 142,000 MILES THE AIR BAG LIGHT BEGAN COMING ON AND GOING OFF INTERMITTENTLY AND NOW IT DOES SO FREQUENTLY, ESPECIALLY WHEN TURNING. I HAVE BEEN ADVISED BY A MECHANIC FRIEND THAT IT IS THE CLOCKSPRING WIRES IN THE STEERING COLUMN AND HAT ONLY A DEALER CAN FIX IT. LIKE THE SEAT PROBLEM, THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND FROM MY RESEARCH I HAVE FOUND THAT IT IS A VERY, VERY COMMON ISSUE AS WELL. CHRYSLER REPLACED THE SEAT FRAME WITH A NEW SEAT FRAME. IT BROKE AGAIN IN 2006. THIS TIME I HAD IT WELDED AND IT LASTED UNTIL APRIL 2010 WHEN IT BROKE AGAIN! EACH TIME THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED I WAS DRIVING THE CAR, WHILE ACCELERATING, AND IT SNAPPED AND THREW ME BACKWARDS IN THE SEAT TOWARDS THE REAR SEAT AREA. THIS CAUSE THE SEAT TO ROCK, BACK AND FOURTH. THE OTHER THREE BAR SECTIONS COULD ALSO, DETACH BECAUSE OF THIS. I HAVE AN EXTENDED COVERAGE BUT, I 'M TOLD IT'S NOT COVERED. I WOULD HAVE TO PAY, OVER $900.00 DOLLARS TO HAVE THIS FIX. IN BOTH CASES, I BELIEVE THIS COULD LEAD TO AN SIGNIFICANT INCREASE IN INJURY, SHOULD THE VEHICLE GET INTO AN ACCIDENT. THE BRACKET BROKE IN HALF AT THE POINT WHERE IT IS INTERSECTED BY THE AXIS COMPONENT. SOMETIMES THIS SEAT ROCKS BACKWARD SUDDENLY WHEN DRIVING WHICH DIMINISHES MY ABILITY TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE. I AM MORE CONCERNED THAT THE DRIVERS SEAT IS NOT ANCHORED TO THE VEHICLE CHASSIS AS DESIGNED. IN THE EVENT OF BEING THE VICTIM OF A REAR END COLLISION, I ANTICIPATE BEING THROWN TO THE REAR OF THE CAB DUE TO LACK OF RESTRAINT. I AM VIRTUALLY THE ONLY PERSON THAT HAS DRIVEN THIS VEHICLE AND THE SEAT HAS ONLY BEEN ELEVATED FROM ITS LOWEST POSITION A FEW TIMES. THE REPAIR ESTIMATE IS $586 (TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE ASSEMBLY) AS THE WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED. THIS FAILURE IS CLEARLY A MANUFACTURING DEFECT AND NOT DUE TO WEAR OR MISUSE. MY POWER STEERING BEGAN TO FAIL LAST FEBRUARY AND IT FAILS WHENEVER I AM GOING AT SPEEDS BELOW 20MPH OR IF I AM OFF OF THE GAS PEDAL.
