After sending my Jeep Grand Cherokee to Pugh’s Service Center in Greenville, NC, in December 2018, because it would turnover, but not start. They replaced the ECM, but had to be taken to the local Jeep dealership for an OE ECM replacement and a crankshaft sensor, in order to get it to crank. Upon getting my Jeep back in March 2019, it ran fine for a few days. Then I went to start it, and it started, but after a few seconds, all of the GAUGES stopped working and all of the WARNING LIGHTS came on. I contacted both Pugh’s and the Jeep dealership, telling me I should just bring it in, to run more diagnostics. The Jeep only has 94,000 miles, and I spent about what the vehicle was worth upon getting it back in March 2019; so I’ve been hesitant on taking it back. There are many other people who have similar issues with the instrument panel gauges and warning lights, from the information I’ve researched online; with no indications of the problem being resolved.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HEATER FAILED TO BLOW HOT AIR ON THE PASSENGER'S SIDE AND 6 MONTHS LATER, THE DRIVER'S SIDE VENTS FAILED TO DISTRIBUTE HEAT. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS POORLY DESIGNED AND METAL SHOULD HAVE BEEN USED INSTEAD OF PLASTIC FOR THE VENTS. THE LOCAL DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 180,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

JEEP WILL NOT RUN. CAR RUNS FINE WHEN IN OPERATION BUT THEN WHAM IT JUST STOPS. CAN'T CONTROL THE JEEP STEERING LOCKS UP. HAPPENED 6 TIMES ALREADY. REPAIRS SHOP TRIED OF TOWING IT. NO KNOW FIX! GOING TO GET KILLED JEEP SHUTS DOWN AT ANY TIME. NO ONE KNOWS HOW TO REPAIR. MANUFACTURERS DEFECT.

GAS TANK LEVELS OFF AT "EMPTY", AND THE FUEL GAUGE SPINS 180 DEGREES SO THAT IT IS CAUGHT UNDER THE "RESTING STICK" AT 0, THEREFORE, NO LONGER READING THE GAUGE. THIS HAPPENS WHILE IN MOTION AND WHILE PARKED.

THE KEY CAN FALL OUT WHILE DRIVING ... THE RECALL WAS NEVER FIXED AND THE KEY WONT WORK WITH THE JEEP NOW AND IM TOLD ITS A $1,800 FIX .

VEHICLE STALLS INTERMITTENTLY, USUALLY AT THE WORST POSSIBLE TIME. I UNDERSTAND THAT THIS IS LARGE PROBLEM AND AFFECTS MANY CHRYSLER MODELS. FORUMS HAVE PAGE AFTER PAGE OF PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. IT IS THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTION TO THE PCM. CONNECTORS BECOME LOOSE AND CAUSE VEHICLE TO STALL RANDOMLY. IT IS A MANUFACTURER ISSUE! IS SOMEONE GOING TO HAVE TO DIE TO GET THIS PROBLEM RESOLVED. I HAVE PUT THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS INTO THIS VEHICLE AND NO RESOLUTION!

CAR'S INSTRUMENT PANEL WENT WILD W HEN I STARTED THE CAR.EVERY WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYED ON. GAUGES WORKED IMMEDIATELY AFTER STARTING THE CAR, BUT SLOWLY LOST POWER TO KEEP THEM ON, AND THEY WENT TO THE "KEY OFF" POSITION. NOTHING ON THE DRIVERS ARMREST WORKED, NO SEAT AUTO POSITIONER, NO WINDOW OPEN, SHUT, OR LOCK. INFORMATION PANEL OVERHEAD WENT DEAD (BLANK).

ENGINE STALLS WITHOUT WARNING WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED. ALL GAUGES INCLUDING SPEED, RPM'S, TEMP, FUEL, ETC. ALL STAY FOR A FEW SECONDS AFTER STALLING AND THEN ALL DROP OFF. THE JEEP GC USED TO START UP AFTER A FEW SECONDS AND WAS ONCE IN A WHILE AT FIRST WITH THIS ISSUE. THEN IT BECAME MORE OFTEN THAT HE JEEP WOULD STALL, THE SAME THING WITH THE DASH FOR A FEW SECONDS THE SPEED, RPM'S, ETC. WOULD BE AT WHERE IT WAS BEFORE STALLING WITH NO POWER STEERING OR POWER BRAKES WHILE MOVING. VERY HARD TO STEER ON CURVES WHEN THE JEEP STALLS. PUT IN A PCM, CRANKSHAFT SENSOR, & CAMSHAFT SENSOR. ASE MECHANIC STUMPED ON ISSUE. VERY DANGEROUS DRIVING AND REMINDS ME OF THE GM IGNITION SWITCH PROBLEMS. AND I HAVE SEEN FORUMS ON THE JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE ON MY YEAR THAT THERE ARE A LOT OF PROBLEMS WITH THIS. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS PROBLEM, BECAUSE IT SEEMS LIKE A MANUFACTURE DEFECT.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE INDEPENDENTLY SHIFTED OUT OF PARK AND INTO REVERSE. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND WAS UNABLE TO RESTART. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT IT WAS UNKNOWN IF THE TRANSMISSION OR THE IGNITION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 78,000.

TWO OR THREE TIMES A YEAR THE LEFT REAR BLINKER WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED DUE TO THE HOUSING MELTING THE CONTACTS AND BURNING SO IT STOPS WORKING. THE TWO BACK DOORS WILL INTERMITTENTLY NOT UNLOCK WITH THE KEY REMOTE (VERY FRUSTRATING!) THE LEFT BACK DOOR WINDOW WILL STOP GOING UP AND DOWN AND WE ARE TOLD BY THE ONE THAT REPAIRED IT THAT THE WIRES FOR ALL OF THAT IS RUNNING THROUGH THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR HINGE FROM THE DASH AND GETS PINCHED OFF FROM BEING BENT! THE FRONT END WILL GROWL WHEN I MAKE A LEFT TURN, I HEAR A HOWLING FROM THE REAR END AT SPEEDS OF 35 MPH AND UP. WHEN I COME TO A QUICK STOP AND MAKE A SHARP TURN IT SOUNDS AND FEELS LIKE THE REAR END SHIFTS FORWARD AN INCH OR TWO. THE BRAKES HAVE ALWAYS GRABBED AND JERKED LIKE THEY WERE WARPED WHILE COMING TO A STOP. I HAVE OWNED IT FOR THREE YEARS AND HAVE HAD TO PUT TWO WATER PUMPS IN IT. THE WIPER WASHERS HAVE NEVER WORKED. THE SPARE TIRE WELL USE TO FILL UP WITH WATER WHEN IT RAINED AND ONE DAY MY HUSBAND PUT A SCREW IN THE BOTTOM OF THE BACK LICENSE PLATE AND IT STOPPED FILLING UP WITH WATER! MY BRAND NEW CD MAGAZINE HAS STOPPED WORKING AND I'M GUESSING ITS BECAUSE OF THE LOCATION OF THE DECK ITSELF. BEING RIGHT OVER THE REAR TIRE WELL THE VIBRATIONS HAVE PROBABLY WRECKED HAVOC ON THE PLAYERS EYE. IT SEEMS AS THOUGH OVER HALF OF THE REPAIRS ON THIS JEEP HAVE COST US AT LEAST $1000.00 EACH. I COULD GO ON FOR HOURS AND I HAVE RECEIPTS FOR EVERY ONE OF THEM! NOW I THINK I AM SEEING WHAT LOOKS TO BE A LEAK FROM THE PLASTIC GAS TANK. I WANT TO KNOW WHY MY YEAR OF THIS JEEP, 2000, WAS SKIPPED OVER FROM THE RECALLS?

THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING OF MY COMPLAINTS, IT WILL TAKE ANOTHER 3 OR 4 OF THESE FORMS TO TOUCH ALL OF THEM. WHILE RUNNING THE HEATER WITH THE FAN GOING IT STARTED SMELLING LIKE IT WAS BURNING AND THEN THE BLOWER QUIT RUNNING. IT TURNED OUT TO BE THE BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR. IT HAD MELTED TO THE POINT OF FUSING THE WIRES INTO THE PLASTIC WHICH THE RESISTOR WAS MADE OF. IT WAS A FIRE HAZARD! THE PART COST US $270.00 NOT INCLUDING LABOR. IN THE MIDDLE OF A HUGE RAINSTORM THE DRIVER SIDE WINDOW QUIT WORKING AND WOULDN'T GO UP, UPON LEAVING THE DEALERSHIP AND HAVING THE WINDOW MECHANISM REPLACED, THE AIRBAG LIGHT ON THE DASH STARTED INTERMITTENTLY CHIMING AND HAS NEVER STOPPED. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THE CLOCK SPRING NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AT $395.00. SINCE I HAD JUST HAD TO HAVE THE HEATER CORE FIXED TO KEEP IT FROM DUMPING ALL OVER THE CARPET, I COULDN'T AFFORD TO FIX IT OR HAVE THE A/C COMPRESSOR CLUTCH WHICH WAS FROZEN, REPLACED EITHER, ANOTHER $702.00. I HAVE OWNED THIS JEEP SINCE JAN OF 2012. BEGINNING WITH A NEW MOTOR I HAVE PAID FOR THIS VEHICLE 3 TIMES OVER DUE TO REPAIRS AND PROBLEMS STEMMING FROM THE FACTORY AND THE CHEAP WAY IT WAS BUILT.

INITIAL HAPPENING DRIVING A SAFE SPEED AND CAR COMPLETELY SHUTS DOWN. WAS ABLE TO RESTART AND DROVE TO NEAREST STATION...WHICH STARTED A SERIES OF PCM REPLACEMENTS. I NOW UNDERSTAND THAT THERE ARE NOT NEW PCM'S THAT CAN BE INSTALLED. NOTHING BUT REFURBISHED ONES, SO EACH TIME I'M GETTING SOMEONE ELSE'S PROBLEMS. MAYBE NOT THE ORIGINAL ONE I HAD BUT EVENTUALLY ANOTHER ONE COMES UP...WHERE THE CAR COMPLETELY SHUTS OFF. MY UNDERSTANDING IS THAT IT IS A PROBLEM WITH THE 2000 MODELS. MY REAL ISSUE IS THAT WHY DOESN'T THE CAR MANUFACTURE OFFER A NEW PCM TO INSTALL. NOW WAITING FOR THE NEXT CUTOFF...HAVE POURED TOO MUCH MONEY INTO THE CAR TO SELL. NO FURTHER INFORMATION WAS AVAILABLE. IN ADDITION, THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE SEAT RAILS MALFUNCTIONED CAUSING THE SEAT TO MOVE WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 196,000.

ALTHOUGH NO ACCIDENT YET, I WANTED TO SAY THAT I HAVE NEVER RECEIVED ANY NOTICE FROM FCA ABOUT THE "CUSTOMER SATISFACTION CAMPAIGN" (BECAUSE ALTHOUGH THE GAS TANK HANGS UNDER THE REAR BUMPER, YEAR 2000 WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE "RECALL" TRAILER HITCH DEAL). I BOUGHT IT NEW AND AM STILL LIVING AT THE SAME ADDRESS. I ALSO WANTED TO NOTE THAT ANOTHER ISSUE WITH THE GC IS THAT THE BRAKE AND TAIL LIGHTS OFTEN STOP WORKING. THE SOCKET GETS SCORCHED AND YOU HAVE TO GO TAKE IT APART, PRY THE CONTACTS UP JUST RIGHT AND PUT ALUMINUM FOIL UNDER THEM (GOOGLE GRAND CHEROKEE BRAKE LIGHTS). THAT WORKS FOR A WHILE, THEN YOU HAVE TO DO IT AGAIN. I'VE BEEN STOPPED TWICE IN 6 MONTHS FOR IT. SOMETIMES THE TAILLIGHT WORKS BUT ACTUALLY GOES OUT WHEN YOU STEP ON THE BRAKE. IN ANY CASE, HAVING A GAS TANK PRONE TO EXPLODING WHEN REAR ENDED ALONG WITH BRAKE LIGHT ISSUES IS NOT A GOOD THING. THE DOOR LOCKS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE ALSO CANNOT BE UNLOCKED EXCEPT FROM INSIDE THE VEHICLE, WHILE THE DRIVERS SIDE HAVE TO BE LOCKED MANUALLY (AGAIN, IT'S ALL OVER GOOGLE. IT'S CALLED THE ANGRY DUCK FOR THE NOISE THE LOCKS MAKE. THE TRUCK SEEMS TO HAVE LOST POWER TO DRIVE AND ALSO TO PROVIDE PROPER TO THE RADIO WHICH GOES IN AND OUT. BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR HEATED UP TO THE POINT THAT THERE WAS SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE PASSENGER SIDE GLOVE COMPARTMENT. AFTER FURTHER INVESTIGATION IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE WIRES AND THE RESISTOR HAD BOTH BEEN CHARRED AND MELTED. UNIT WILL BE PUSHED OUT OF METAL BRACKET FROM QUICK RELEASE OF BRAKE PEDAL. CONCERN IS EXCESSIVE HEAT GENERATED BY CONTINUAL REAR BRAKE LIGHT ACTIVATION. POTENTIAL FOR FIRE HAZARD. I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING A PROBLEM WITH MY BATTERY NOT STAYING CHARGED. THE FIRST OCCURRED WHEN I HAD LET THE CAR SET FOR ABOUT 2 DAYS, IT WOULD NOT START. *TR THE BATTERY WOULD NOT JUMP. I HAD TO BUY A NEW BATTERY. THE BATTERY POST ALWAYS GET CORROSION ON IT. I HAVE HAD IT CLEANED AND CHANGED A COUPLE OF TIMES, AND IT STILL GETS CORROSION ON IT IN 2 DAYS. WHILE DRIVING HOME USING THE A/C I SMELLED AN ODOR OF BURNING PLASTIC. I PULLED TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD TO INVESTIGATE AND NOTICED SMALL AMOUNTS OF SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE PASSENGER SIDE DASH BOARD. WITH THE IGNITION OFF I FELT AROUND BEHIND AND BELOW THE GLOVE COMPARTMENT AND WAS BURNT BY MELTED PLASTIC FROM A SMALL BLACK COMPONENT (THE BLOWER CONTROL MODULE AS I FOUND OUT LATER). THE WIRES TO THE MODULE WERE VERY HOT, THE CONNECTOR HAD MELTED, AND AFTER LETTING IT COOL, THE A/C BLOWER WOULD NOT WORK. I HAVE DISCOVERED THAT JEEP KNOWS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM, HAS MADE REPAIR KITS AVAILABLE BUT WILL NOT FIX THE PROBLEM OR COVER COSTS, THE MODULE COSTS ABOUT $165, THE WIRING REPAIR KIT COSTS ABOUT $20, THE LABOR $80. BOUGHT THE 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LTD BACK IN DECEMBER OF 2007. THE A/C WORKED GREAT. MOVED TO MIAMI, FL ON 01/08 , AND HAD TO START USING A/C ALOT. WHILE LEARNING THE VEHICLES HABITS. I NOTED THE A/C UNIT TO STOP WORKING WHEN ON. THE UNIT WOULD BE ON, AND THEN GO OUT, AND COME BACK ON. LIKE THERE WAS A SHORT SOMEWHERE. I ALSO SMELT A BURNING SMELL IN THE CAB. I STOPPED TURNING ON A/C UNIT ALL TOGETHER AT MY GRANDFATHERS REQUEST UNTIL I MOVED BACK TO NC ON 07/08. WHEN HE LOOKED AT THE A/C COMPONENTS; HE NOTED THAT THE "BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR" (LOCATED UNDER PASSENGER SIDE GLOVE BOX, AND BESIDE THE BLOWER UNIT )WAS MELTED SO BAD THAT THE WIRES AT THE 3 PRON FEMALE CONNECTOR WAS FRAYED/EXPOSE (WHERE HEAT MELTED/SHRUNK CONNECTORS AWAY FROM WIRES) LEAVING HOT WIRES TOUCHING ONE ANOTHER. THIS IN RETURN CAUSED WIRE EXPOSURE. THE "BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR" UNIT ENDED UP MELTING SO BAD IT WAS WARPED. THIS PART ALSO NEVER ONCE BLEW THE 40AMP FUSE UNDER HOOD FOR THE A/C UNIT.... OR ANYWHERE ELSE FOR THAT MATTER. I AM REALLY UPSET THAT MY VEHICLE COULD HAVE CAUGHT ON FIRE DUE TO LIVE WIRES/MELTING PARTS/ LACK OF FUSE BLOWING. THIS IS A 125$ PART MINUS DEALERSHIP REPAIR. PART RELATED TO CHEROKEE "LIMITED"DUAL CLIMATE FUNCTIONS OF THE A/C DASH UNIT (AIR POSITION KNOB, AUTOMATIC DIGITAL TEMP DISPLAY,AND AIR FLOW FAN KNOB). THE PART IS REMOVED WHICH MEANS TO CUT WIRES TO DETACH THE PART. THIS MEANS THE NEW PART WILL HAVE TO BE REWIRED BACK IN. THE LOCAL JEEP DEALERSHIP PARTS DEPARTMENT WAS WELL AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND SAID THEY GET CALLS FOR THE PART ALL THE TIME. THE RESISTOR THAT ALLOWED THE BLOWER MOTOR TO WORK THE AIR CONDITIONER /HEATER MELTED THE WIRING HARNESS AND THE RESISTOR ITSELF, WHICH AT ANYTIME COULD CAUSE A FIRE ON THE PASSENGER'S SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THIS MEANT THERE WAS NO AIR CONDITIONING OR HEAT FOR THE AUTOMOBILE NOR DEFROSTER SYSTEM. THE COMPANY WAS ON A BACK ORDER FROM WHAT I WAS TOLD BY 1400 PARTS. THE JUNK YARDS DID NOT HAVE THIS RESISTOR, AND AFTER $180 AT NAPA I WAS ABLE TO GET ONE, AND THAT WAS HARD TO FIND ,AND I DIDN'T KNOW HOW LONG THIS ONE WILL LAST. AFTER RECEIVING THE PART THE BOX CONTAINED A HARNESS AND RESISTOR, THE HARNESS HAD ABOUT 10 PLUGGING TO WHERE I BELIEVE I WILL HAVE TO TEAR THE WHOLE DASHBOARD APART JUST TO CONNECT THIS HARNESS. THE DEALER FIXED THE PROBLEM THE FIRST YEAR. HOWEVER, THE FOLLOWING YEAR, THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. THERE HAS BEEN MANY ATTEMPTS TO FIX THE PROBLEM EACH YEAR SINCE 2002. THEY WERE TRYING TO FIX THE PROBLEM WITH UT TAKING THE DASHBOARD APART, IT WOULD COST THEM TOO MUCH TO DO THAT., WE KEPT TAKING THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP(FOR THE SAME PROBLEM 10 TIMES. I HAVE A HISTORY REPORT OF ALL MAINTENANCE & REPAIRS. FROM THE WINTER OF 2002 UP UNTIL THIS WINTER 2005 WE HAVE HAD THE SAME CHRONIC PROBLEM WITH THE HEAT. ITS WAS ALWAYS ON THE PASSENGER'S SIDE. NOW THAT THEY HAVE PUT US OFF ALL THIS TIME, OUR 5 YEAR EXTENDED WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED. WE DIDN'T NEED HEAT IN OCTOBER, SO WE DIDN'T KNOW THERE WAS THE PROBLEM AGAIN THIS YEAR. HE TOLD ME TO BRING IT IN RIGHT AWAY. BECAUSE I LIVE CLOSER TO MIDAS THAN ANY JEEP DEALER, AND BECAUSE OF THE SERVICE I HAVE RECEIVED IN THE PAST FROM JEEP/CHRYSLER, I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC. HE ADVISED ME I HAD A BLOWN HEAD GASKET. I RECEIVED AN ESTIMATE FROM HIM AND HE ALSO ADVISED ME THAT THE DEALERSHIP WOULD BE CONSIDERABLY MORE EXPENSIVE, I ALLOWED HIM TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. SUPPOSEDLY THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE COMPUTER WHICH CHRYSLER WAS TO HAVE THE FIX AVAILABLE THE FIRST OF NOVEMBER. NOW DUE TO SOME OTHER REASON THE FIX WON'T BE AVAILABLE UNTIL AFTER JANUARY 1, 2001. CHRYSLER IS SUPPOSED TO CONTACT ME TO DISCUSS A RESOLUTION TO MY PROBLEM. *AK

VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN BY COMPUTER WHILE TRAVELLING 60MPH ON FREEWAY, RESULTING IN SEVERAL NEAR COLLISIONS AT HIGH SPEED -- A CAM SENSOR FAILURE, ACCORDING TO THE DEALER.
