HAVE BEEN NOTICING VIBRATION OF THE RADIATOR COOLING FAN WHEN A/C TURNED ON. WHILE BACKING OUT OF DRIVE, HEARD POP NOISE FROM ENGINE COMPARTMENT. PULLED INTO DRIVE, OPENED HOOD AND FOUND THAT RADIATOR FAN HAD DISINTEGRATED, PIERCING RADIATOR SHROUD AND RADIATOR. HOLES IN RADIATOR (RADIATOR NOW LEAKING) AND SHROUD. CALLED CHRYSLER RECALL CENTER AND TOLD THAT THIS WAS NOT COVERED BY RECALL 06V199000. AM REPLACING ALL AFFECTED PARTS AND PERFORMING SERVICE MYSELF. BASED ON ONLINE RESEARCH THIS IS VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL AND SHOULD BE INCLUDED UNDER ABOVE MENTIONED RECALL. *TR

THIS FAILURE OCCURRED SIX TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 108,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 108,200.

THE REPAIR SHOP INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THE LEAK WAS CAUSED BY A DAMAGED RADIATOR DUE TO THE ELECTRIC FAN BREAKING INTO PIECES AND CAUSING THE LEAKAGE. I PAID THEM $259.00 FOR THE NEW RADIATOR. I WAS INFORMED OF THE SAFETY RECALL AND I DECIDED TO GO TO THE RIVERDALE CHRYSLER JEEP LOCATED AT 5869 BROADWAY BRONX NY 10463. AFTER A GENERAL INSPECTION THEY NOTICED THE SHROUD WAS ALSO DAMAGED AND REFUSED TO REPAIR/REPLACE STATING THAT IT WAS NOT COVERED. I AM REQUESTING FULL COVERAGE OF ALL RELATED PARTS AND LABOR AS THIS WAS CAUSED BY THE FAN FAILURE. MY WIFE AND I PURCHASED A 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE FROM THE DEALERSHIP. ABOUT TWO YEARS AGO THE 4.0 LITER 6 CYLINDER ENGINE STARTED USING COOLANT AND CAUSING THE COOLANT LIGHT TO ALARM. THE OIL PRESSURE WOULD DROP TO "0" AND SOUND THE CHECK GAUGES ALARM. WE TOOK THE CAR TO THE MECHANIC SHOP FOR COSTLY REPAIRS AND TROUBLESHOOTING. THEY REPLACED THE WATER PUMP, COULDN'T FIND ANY LEAKS, AND REPLACED THE OIL PUMP AND REAR MAIN SEAL. THEY CHECKED THE BEARING CLEARANCES AND FOUND THEM WITHIN TOLERANCE. THE CAR IS STILL USING ONE TO TWO PINTS OF COOLANT EVERY THREE DAYS AND THE OIL CONTINUES TO DROP TO "0" AFTER WARM-UP. WE REPLACE THE 4 WHEEL DISC BRAKES AND ROTORS EVERY TWO YEARS. THE HOOD GAS SHOCKS WON'T HOLD THE HOOD UP AND THE SHOCKS COST $150 A PAIR FORM THE DEALER AND ONLY LAST ONE YEAR. WE TO HAVE ELECTRIC DOOR LOCKS THAT SCREECH AND DON'T LOCK THE DOORS AS WELL AS REAR LIGHT PROBLEMS THAT WORK OFF AND ON. THE EMISSIONS ARE MUCH HIGHER THAN NORMAL ON OUR RECENT SMOG TEST. THIS IS AN INDICATION THAT THE #3 AND 4 CYLINDER IS USING THE MYSTERIOUS ANTIFREEZE LOSS. AS A RETIRED MECHANICAL ENGINEER I ALSO BELIEVE THE OIL PROBLEM TO BE RELATED. MY WIFE HAS THE GRAND CHEROKEE AND I PURCHASED A TJ WRANGLER NEW IN 2000. I'M CONCERNED THIS VEHICLE WILL DEVELOP THE SAME PROBLEMS HAVING THE SAME ENGINE. I HAVE READ NUMEROUS FORUMS WITH MANY PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. CHANGES HAVE BEEN MADE TO EVERYTHING FROM SENSOR'S TO PCM ( MAIN COMPUTER ) TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. IN MY CASE THE COMPUTER SYSTEM ISN'T STORING ANY CODES WITH A PROBLEM. INITIALLY I CHANGED THE CRANK SHAFT POSITION SENSOR BECAUSE OF THE CODE BUT THE PROBLEM CONTINUES TO HAPPEN. TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE BECAUSE THE ENTIRE SYSTEM IS SHUT DOWN THERE IS NO POWER STEERING MAKING IT ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO GLIDE OVER TO THE SHOULDER. *TR

JEEP 2000 GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO INLINE 6CYL I RECENTLY EXPERIENCED LOW COOLANT AND OIL PRESSURE PROBLEMS. I HAD THE WATER PUMP REPLACED, THE OIL SENSOR SWITCH REPLACED, AND THE OIL PUMP REPLACED. THE REPAIRS WERE DONE INDIVIDUALLY IN THAT ORDER. I AM STILL EXPERIENCING LOW COOLANT ALTHOUGH THE CAR DOES NOT SEEM TO OVERHEAT. I RECENTLY HAD A PRESSURE TEST AND THERE WERE NO LEAKS. WHEN THE CAR IS STARTED IN THE MORNING I HAVE THE PROPER OIL PRESSURE. AS SOON AS THE CAR WARMS UP THE OIL PRESSURE FLUCTUATES AND EVENTUALLY ACTIVATES THE ALERT INDICATOR (BELL SOUND). THE ENGINE SOUNDS FINE AND THERE ARE NO PERFORMANCE PROBLEMS. I BROUGHT THE CAR BACK TO THE SERVICE STATION THAT DID THE REPAIRS. THE MECHANIC SUGGESTED THAT I USE A HEAVIER OIL FOR THE PRESSURE PROBLEM. I WILL LET YOU KNOW THE RESULTS. THIS MAY BE THE LAST ATTEMPT BEFORE AN ENGINE OVERHAUL. WHEN THE CAR IS STARTED IN THE MORNING I HAVE THE PROPER OIL PRESSURE. AS SOON AS THE CAR WARMS UP THE OIL PRESSURE FLUCTUATES AND EVENTUALLY ACTIVATES THE ALERT INDICATOR (BELL SOUND). THE ENGINE SOUNDS FINE AND THERE ARE NO PERFORMANCE PROBLEMS. I BROUGHT THE CAR BACK TO THE SERVICE STATION THAT DID THE REPAIRS. THE MECHANIC SUGGESTED THAT I USE A HEAVIER OIL FOR THE PRESSURE PROBLEM. I WILL LET YOU KNOW THE RESULTS. THIS MAY BE THE LAST ATTEMPT BEFORE AN ENGINE OVERHAUL. MECHANICS HAVE TOLD ME THEY CANNOT FIND THE PROBLEM UNTIL THIS PAST WEEK WHEN A MECHANIC TOLD ME THE COOLANT WAS LEAKING INTO MY ENGINE AND MIXING WITH MY OIL. I HAVE A 2000 GRAND CHEROKEE JEEP LIMITED THAT I PURCHASED NEW. IT WAS FAIRLY OK UNTIL 2003 AT ABOUT 60K MILES. THAT'S WHEN THE RADIATOR STARTING LEAKING. IT WAS REPLACED IN 2003 AND ANNUALLY THEREAFTER (5 REPLACEMENTS) WITH THE LAST ONE IN MARCH 2007. ADDITIONALLY, I HAVE HAD SEVERAL WATER PUMPS PLUS REPLACING THE HEATER CORE. THE DEALER SAYS THEY CAN'T FIND THE CAUSE FOR THE RADIATORS TO CONTINUE TO BREAKDOWN EVERY YEAR WITH LESS THAN 10K AND UNDER 12 MONTHS EACH TIME. I BELIEVE THE JEEP HAS AN INHERENT FLAW IN THE COOLING SYSTEM DESIGN. WELL THAT IS WRONG, BUT UNFORTUNATELY HANS WAS NOT WILLING TO BE HELPFUL AND TAKE CARE OF THE MATTER. HE ALSO TOLD ME HE SPOKE WITH MY HUSBAND WHEN WE BROUGHT THE CAR IN AND TOLD HIM WE HAVE TO HAVE A NEW RADIATOR TO KEEP THE CAR FROM OVER HEATING AND HE WAS THERE WHEN THE TECHNICIAN TOLD MY HUSBAND THE SAME THING. THE PROBLEM IS, I WAS THERE TOO AND THAT IS NOT WHAT THEY TOLD US. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP WHO DETERMINED THE FAN ASSEMBLY UNIT HAD DETACHED, PENETRATING THE RADIATOR AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE REPAIR SHOP ALSO DETERMINED THE SAME FAN ASSEMBLY WAS USED FOR THE 4.0L AND THE 4.7L. THE CONTACT EXPRESSED THE VEHICLE WAS ONLY DRIVEN 3-5 MILES AFTER THE FAN FRACTURE WHEN THE ENGINE FAILED. THERE IS A NHTSA RECALL, #06V1999000, REGARDING THE ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING: COOLING SYSTEM: FAN. THE DEALER FIXED THE PROBLEM THE FIRST YEAR. HOWEVER, THE FOLLOWING YEAR, THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. THERE HAS BEEN MANY ATTEMPTS TO FIX THE PROBLEM EACH YEAR SINCE 2002. I RECENTLY BECAME AWARE OF A SERIOUS DEFECT IN THE COOLING FAN OF MY JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. ON 11/11/05, I WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH WHEN I UNEXPECTEDLY HEARD A LOUD EXPLOSION. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER AND NOTICED A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF FLUID DRAINING FROM MY CAR. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION UNDER THE HOOD, I DISCOVERED THE COOLING FAN HAD EXPLODED INTO MANY PIECES, WHICH SUBSEQUENTLY DAMAGED MY RADIATOR CAUSING THE LEAK OF COOLANT. THIS WAS A SUDDEN MALFUNCTION WITHOUT ANY SORT OF WARNING, WHICH COULD POTENTIALLY HAVE SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES SUCH AS SEVERE INJURY AND EVEN DEATH. FORTUNATELY, I WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF THE ROAD WITHOUT INCIDENCE. WHILE RESEARCHING ONLINE, I DISCOVERED THAT NOT ONLY IS THIS A COMMON PROBLEM, BUT THAT CHRYSLER IS FULLY AWARE OF THIS FLAW IN THEIR VEHICLE BUT HAS YET TO ISSUE A RECALL. THEY SAID GUNK BUILD UP IN THE ENGINE, NEED TO REPLEACE AT A COST OF $9,000. I COULDN'T PROVE OIL CHANGES EVER 3,000 MILES (THEY WERE DONE AT HOME), I EXPLAINED I HAD ONLY HAD THE JEEP ONE YEAR, TOO BAD. EXTENDED WARRENTY WON'T HELP. I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE LESS THAN 4 MONTHS AGO AND IT BEGAN LEAKING ANTIFREEZE WITHIN THE FIRST MONTH. I THEN BROUGHT THE CAR TO A REPAIR SHOP AND THEY TOLD ME THAT IT COULD BE THE THERMOSTAT. THIS DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM EVEN THOUGH THE CAR WAS NOT OVER HEATING. THE PROBLEM: THE CAR IS STILL LEAKING IN MORE THAN ONE PLACE. TODAY IT WAS A CONTINUAL LEAK. I CALLED THE DEALER AND I CALLED CHRYSLER AND THEY WILL NOT REPAIR THE VEHICLE AT THEIR OWN COST. THE ENGINE IS POSSIBLY CRACKED BUT THEY WILL CHARGE ME $400 TO DO THE DIAGNOSTIC AND I WILL NOT ONLY HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR THAT BUT ALSO THE TOTAL COST OF THE REPAIR UNTIL I CAN SETTLE THIS WITH CHRYSLER OR THE DEALER. I PURCHASED MY 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE IN 1999. I HAVE BEEN IN AND OUT OF THE DEALER SERVICE FOR REPEAT MAJOR PROBLEMS. ALSO DURING MY CARGO DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN NEITHER WOULD THE WINDOW, THEY REPLACED THE LATCH LIFT. THE NEXT PROBLEM WAS THAT I WAS NOTICING SMOKE COMING FROM UNDERNEATH MY HOOD. I BROUGHT THAT TO THEIR ATTENTION AND THEY NOTICE A FLUID LEAK AND HAD TO REPLACE MY CYLINDER HEAD GASKET. THE SMOKE WAS STILL THERE AFTER THAT EFFORT AND NOW MY TRANSMISSION HAS WENT OUT. I NEED AN OVERHAUL TRANSMISSION THAT WILL COST $1800.00 BECAUSE NOW IT'S OUT OF WARRANTY. WHEN I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP THEY MADE IT SEEM AS IF I DID NOT TAKE CARE OF MY VEHICLE. I DROVE AWAY BUT THE CAR STILL PULSATES HEAVILY AS SOON AS I BRAKE IF I AM DRIVING OVER 20MPH. FURTHERMORE MY CAR'S ENGINE BROKE DOWN COMPLETELY AFTER 32000 MILES OR APPROXIMATELY 7 MONTHS AGO. THEY TOLD ME THE ENGINE FAILED B/C I DIDN'T CHANGE THE OIL FOR 10,000 MILES. THE MECHANICS REPORT STATED THAT THERE WAS WATER IN THE FUEL, BUT THEY STILL TOLD ME IT WAS MY FAULT FOR NOT CHANGING THE OIL. IT CRANKED, BUT WOULDN'T TURN OVER. I CALLED JEEP, AND HAD IT TOWED BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY TOLD US IT WAS THE GEAR ON THE CAM SPEED SENSOR. THE MECHANIC SHOWED US WHAT HE SAID WAS THE CAM SENSOR. SEVERAL OF THE TEETH ON THE GEAR WERE SHORN OFF. WE ASKED TO KEEP THE BAD PART, AND THEY SAID THAT WAS NOT ALLOWED.
