My jeep does the death wobble anytime I hit a small bump in the road, pothole, Lane marker...etc. it is very hard to control at that point and seems as though it might flip if it gets any worst or hit a big enough bump. It is very hard to control and to get to stop once it gets going. It poses a huge safety concern for myself and others being that I have to get the truck to stop when it does the death wobble which means someone coming behind me would/should have to stop as well and definitely is a nuisance to myself and other drivers. Please help. I have read and been told it could be any one of the steering or suspension components.

THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VIBRATION CEASED AT LOW SPEEDS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CONSTANT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BARNETT CHRYSLER JEEP DEALER, LOCATED AT (3430 HWY 61 N, WHITE BEAR LAKE, MN 55110) TO BE DIAGNOSED. A CAUSE FOR THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 270,000.

WHEN DRIVING, THE STEERING PULLS TO THE LEFT SIDE FAIRLY HARD. ALSO, WHEN MAKING EITHER RIGHT OR LEFT TURNS THE RESULT IS A VERY JERKY AND NOT SMOOTH. WHEN THERE IS A BUMP IN THE ROAD, THE STEERING WHEEL JERKS AND TURNS SLIGHTLY CAUSING POSSIBLE DANGEROUS DRIVING CONDITIONS. THE VEHICLE IS DRIVE-ABLE HOWEVER THERE IS DEFINITELY SOME CAUSE FOR CONCERN. HAVE REPLACED THE SUSPENSION WITH BRAND NEW SHOCKS AND THERE SEEMS TO BE NO DIFFERENCE IN THE STEERING WHEEL'S RESPONSE TO BUMPS. WHEELS ALSO APPEAR TO BE IN GREAT ALIGNMENT AS WELL. I HAVE SEEN WHERE THIS ISSUE IS VERY COMMON WITH THIS MAKE AND MODEL AND WOULD LIKE TO BE ABLE TO GET THE ISSUE CORRECTED FOR A FEELING OF COMFORT AND SAFETY WHILE DRIVING MY VEHICLE.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE, A GRINDING AND HUMMING NOISE WAS PRESENT FROM THE STEERING COLUMN. ALSO, THE POWER STEERING ASSIST SUDDENLY MALFUNCTIONED AND CAUSED THE STEERING WHEEL TO BECOME VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN IN EITHER DIRECTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER STEERING PUMP AND HOSE WERE FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED ON FOUR SEPARATE OCCASIONS, BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE MANUFACTURER AND LOCAL DEALER WERE NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 88,000.

IGNITION SWITCH-P41. I WENT TO THE GARAGE ONE SATURDAY MORNING ON MY WAY TO WORK AND COULD NOT CRANK UP MY VEHICLE. THE IGNITION WOULD LITERALLY NOT TURN THE STEERING WHEEL OR ANYTHING. THE LIGHTS TO THE CAR WOULD BLINK AND MY CAR WOULDN'T START WITH THE KEY IN THE IGNITION; HOWEVER, THE SAFETY RECALL IS ON A MODEL CAR ONE YEAR AFTER MINE. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME THE IGNITION WOULD NOT CRANK UP. ONE TIME, I LITERALLY HAD TO PULL OVER AND STOP THE CAR ONLY TO TRY AND START IT AGAIN BUT IT WOULDN'T CRANK. IN ORDER FOR IT TO GO, I HAD TO BANG ON THE IGNITION PARK TO GET IT TO TURN THE KEY AND FURTHER START THE IGNITION. THE ISSUES ARE THE SAME AS THE RECALL BUT I'M OUT OF POCKET SOME $687.00 AT THE DEALERSHIP, WHICH I HAD TO WAIT 3 HOURS FOR A TOW TRUCK TO COME THROUGH. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY THIS MODEL CAR WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AS WELL. I AM A SINGLE PARENT AND IT IS SO FRUSTRATING TO TRY AND PROVIDE FOR MY CHILD WHEN I CAN'T USE THE ONLY TRANSPORTATION THAT I HAVE PLUS THE FACT THAT IT COSTS AN ARM AND A LEG JUST TO FIX. I CANNOT AFFORD ANOTHER CAR NOTE AT THIS TIME. PLEASE CONSIDER THE 2004 MODELS IN THIS RECALL.

IT WAS RATHER EXPENSIVE TO HAVE IT REPAIRED. I'M UNSURE OF WHEN THE PROBLEM AROSE AS IT WAS FOR SALE FOR MONTHS PRIOR TO ME PURCHASING. APPARENTLY THIS HAD BEEN REPAIRED UNDER A PRIOR RECALL.

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THERE WAS A CLICKING NOISE COMING FROM THE STEERING WHEEL. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER, WHO DETERMINED THE STEERING WHEEL WAS LOOSE ALONG THE COLUMN AND NEEDED TO BE TIGHTENED. AFTER THE INITIAL TIGHTENING OF THE STEERING WHEEL, A LOUD, POPPING NOISE WAS HEARD WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER WHO DETERMINED THE TILT WHEEL KNOB NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. AFTERWARDS, THE PROBLEM PERSISTED, AND THE DEALER DETERMINED THE STEERING WHEEL NEEDED TO BE TIGHTENED AGAIN, AND DUE TO THE LOOSENESS IT CAUSED THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE AIRBAG TO FAIL WHICH WOULD ALSO NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. HAVE A WHISTLING NOISE IN STEERING AND DEALER HAVE TRIED 6 TIMES TO FIX INCLUDING REPLACING STEERING BOX. NOW VEHICLE MAKES WHISTLING NOISE AND A KNOCKING NOISE IN THE STEERING AREA. 3 OF 6 DEALERS SAY THAT IT CANT BE REPAIRED AND THAT IT IS NOT NORMAL BUT CANT GET CHRYSLER TO RESPOND. THIS IS A LEASE VEHICLE AND I WANT OUT OF VEHICLE BUT HAVE TO HAVE TRANSPORTATION DUE TO MY JOB. I AM AFRAID SOMETHING WILL HAPPEN TO THE STEERING ONE DAY WHILE TRAVELING. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN INTO THE DEALER(S) 25 TIMES AND OUT OF SERVICE AT LEAST 45+ DAYS. THEY HAVE REPLACED POWER STEERING PUMP 2XS, L WINDSHIELD, SEALED ANOTHER WINDSHIELD, DRAINED POWER STEERING LINES TWICE AND REPLACED STEERING BOX. I LEASED VEHICLE IN 9/04, WITH FIRST REPAIR ATTEMPT IN 10/04 AND HAVE OVER 25 TIMES IN SHOP SINCE LAST 2 YEARS. HELP ME GET OUT OF THIS LEASE VEHICLE? *JB

STEERING BECAME DIFFICULT TO TURN WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS. DEALER TESTED AND FOUND THAT THE STEERING GEAR CAME APART INTERNALLY SENDING METAL FRAGMENTS THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE POWER STEERING SYSTEM. DEALER FOUND IT NECESSARY TO REPLACE POWER STEERING PUMP, GEAR BOX, RADIATOR FAN BECAUSE IT IS HYDRAULICALLY RAN THROUGH THE POWER STEERING PUMP, THE RETURN AND PRESSURE POWER STEERING HOSES ECT. DEALER REPAIRED AT A COST OF $2846.53 PLUS TAX. LATER I FOUND OUT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE STEERING GEAR BOX HOWEVER OUR JEEP WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL DUE TO THE VIN # . *NM

THE VEHICLE HAS THE SAME PROBLEMS AS INDICATED IN THE RECALL; HOWEVER IT IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO THE VIN. ALTHOUGH THE PROBLEM PERSISTED, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SEEN BY A DEALER.

BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO DEALER & WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS "UNSAFE TO DRIVE" BECAUSE A PIECE OF THE STEERING COLUMN HAD TO BE REPLACED. DEALER HAD TO ORDER THE PART & CAR HAD TO STAY OVERNIGHT. CAR IS LESS THAN 1 YEAR OLD WITH 4,000 MILES ON IT.

THE ABILITY FOR STEERING CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, MOST NOTABLY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, IS VERY DIFFICULT. THE VEHICLE APPEARS TO HAVE A GAP OF SLOPPY SPACE IN THE STEERING.
