P41 Ignition switch recall was completed on my vehicle 11/2015. Prior to receiving recall notification I experienced no problems with accidently hitting the key while driving. Now I am experiencing great difficulty turning the ignition switch. One of my vehicle keys broke off while trying to turn the car on to drive. Most times I get in the car to go somewhere there is always an issue getting the key to turn allowing the car to turn on. The warranty for the recall has expired and I am very upset that there is nothing that can be done to rectify this problem without having out of pocket expenses. This is very frustrating and I am afraid my last key is going to break off while trying to start vehicle.

While driving the transmission will go into neutral without warning. I have to coast to a spot I can pull over then put into park then back into drive again and vehicle will go . It has done this three times.

Ignition system was repaired under recall in 2016. The cars ignition system continues to have issues and will shut off and cause the car not to restart. Very dangerous to be driving and have the engine fail. This happened on the highway recently. Chrysler says there is nothing they can do. Car has been looked at by independent mechanics and I have notified the dealership. They say it is my responsibility now.

The fuel tank skid plate has completely rusted and has broken off. My tank (that has a date of 2004 stamped on it) is completely exposed. I am afraid that my tank is going to fall off and cause harm to myself or the driver/vehicle behind me. The vehicle is mostly city street / highway driving… no off road driving. I am concerned of the considerable amount of pot holes 🕳️ in my area that damage can be done based on the area I live in. Southwestern Pennsylvania has a lot of pot holes.

I RECENTLY PURCHASED A USED 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED (5.7 HEMI). THE VEHICLE IS IN VERY GOOD SHAPE FOR IT'S AGE EXCEPT FOR THE FACT THAT THREE OF THE FOUR INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES ARE BROKEN. THE ONLY HANDLE THAT ISN'T COMPLETELY BROKEN IS THE REAR DRIVER SIDE DOOR. THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE DOOR HAS HAS A HOLE IN THE PLASTIC ABOUT THE SIZE OF A QUARTER. THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE DOOR HAS ALSO HAS A HOLE AND ALMOST ALL OF THE PLASTIC HOUSING IS MISSING. FORTUNATELY, BOTH OF THESE DOOR HANDLES ARE STILL OPERATIONAL FROM THE INSIDE. THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE DOOR HAS THE MOST DAMAGE AND ALTHOUGH OPERATIONAL, THERE IS ONLY ONE SMALL PIECE OF PLASTIC THAT IS HOLDING THE PIN THAT CONNECTS THE CABLE TO THE HANDLE. ONCE THE PIN FALLS OUT, THE DOOR WILL NO LONGER BE OPERATIONAL FROM THE INSIDE AND THE PLASTIC THAT IS CURRENTLY HOLDING IT IN PLACE IS EXTREMELY BRITTLE. THE WHOLE MECHANISM THAT OPENS THE DOOR IS EXPOSED THROUGH THE DOOR AND THE ACTUAL HANDLE NO LONGER IS SEATED WHERE IT IS SUPPOSED BE. IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE THE DRIVER DOOR BECOMES INOPERABLE AND THAT IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE.

TOOK VEHICLE TO PEP BOYS TO CHECK DUE TO THE FACT I WAS HAVING TROUBLE TURNING KEY IN THE IGNITION AND IT CONTINUED TO GIVE ME PROBLEMS THEN THE KEY BECAME STUCK IN THE IGNITION. A LOCKSMITH HAD TO BE CALLED TO PEP BOYS TO FIX THE IGNITION. I HAD TO PAY $200. THEN IT WAS TOLD TO ME THAT I NEEDED A STARTER, WHICH TOTALED $644. WANTED TO KNOW IF I GET THIS MONEY REFUNDED TO ME. I HAVE RECEIPTS. AND ALSO A REPAIR DONE ABOUT 2 YEARS AGO RELATED TO THE RECALL.

SECOND TIME I WENT FOR A VERY SURPRISING RIDE OVER A FOUR FOOT RETAINING WALL . IT LANDED ON THE GRASS WITHOUT TIPPING OVER. I HAVE PARKED THIS CAR AND HAVEN'T RUN IT UNTIL I KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH IT. I STOPPED AND GOT OUT BUT NO FLAT TIRE, LOOSE LUG NUTS OR ANYTHING I COULD FIND. PUT FLASHERS ON AND HEADED UP THE ROAD SLOWLY NOT GOING OVER 45 MPH. IT FINALLY QUIT AND I WAS ABLE TO INCREASE SPEED. IT CONTINUES TO HAVE THIS WOBBLE SOUND ALONG WITH THE STEERING WHEEL SHAKING OFF AND ON. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND THE ONLY THING MATCHED WHAT HAPPEN WAS THE JEEP DEATH WOBBLE. WHEN HE THOUGHT HE HAD IT FIXED THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME BACK ON. MY MECHANIC BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER IN NORWICH,, NY AND THEY DETERMINED IT WAS PART OF THE COMPUTER SYSTEM. I JUST GOT MY JEEP BACK AFTER A $972.00 BILL. IS THIS SOMETHING THAT TYPICALLY GOES WRONG; HAVE OTHERS HAD ISSUES WITH THIS; WAS IT SAFE ETC.?

MY KEYS ARE EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO GO IN AND OUT OF THE IGNITION AND ON 2 SEPARATE OCCASIONS THE KEY WAS UNABLE TO BE REMOVED FROM THE IGNITION RESULTING IN THE ACC BEING LEFT ON OVERNIGHT AND BEING FORCED TO TAKE VEHICLE TO DEALER IN THE MORNING WITH A DEAD BATTERY. DEALER STATES I NEED TO PURCHASE A NEW KEY BECAUSE MY KEYS ARE ORIGINAL AND THE IGNITION THEY REPLACED IS BRAND NEW AND ARE NOT SYNCED UP. THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME IT IS MY PROBLEM TO PURCHASE NEW KEYS FOR THE JEEP THAT HAD NO ISSUES PRIOR TO THEM REPLACING THE IGNITION. THIS AFTERNOON 8/10/15, WHILE GETTING BACK INTO MY VEHICLE THE ENTIRE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR INTERIOR HANDLE FELL COMPLETELY OFF AND INTO THE STREET. THIS PRESENTS A SERIOUSLY HAZARDOUS CONDITION, IF THE DRIVER OF THE VEHICLE CAN NOT EXIT THE CAR WITHOUT ROLLING THE WINDOW DOWN THEN REACHING OUT OF CAR TO OPEN DOOR USING EXTERIOR HANDLE. IF AN ACCIDENT OCCURS AND MY VEHICLE FLIPS ONTO ITS PASSENGER SIDE. I CAN NOT EXIT THE VEHICLE AT ALL! UNLESS I CLIMB INTO THE BACK SEAT AND OPEN THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR DOOR. THIS IS VERY SERIOUS. I WAS ENTERING A PARKING LOT WHEN I SAW ANOTHER CAR EXITING. I PRESSED DOWN ON THE BRAKE AND THE VEHICLE WENT INTO SUDDEN RAPID ACCELERATION. I PUSHED HARDER ON THE BRAKE AND THE CAR SPED UP TO AT LEAST 60 MPH. I HIT THE CAR THAT WAS COMING OUT OF THE LOT BECAUSE I COULD NOT STOP MY CAR. THE CAR THAT I HIT HIT A PARKED CAR. MY VEHICLE THEN SPED AHEAD HITTING ANOTHER CAR BECAUSE I COULD NOT STOP. I SPED OVER THE RAILROAD TRACKS AND MY CAR FINALLY CAME TO A STOP IN A SHOPPING CENTER. THIS WAS THE LAST EXPERIENCE WITH SUDDEN RAPID ACCELERATION IN THIS JEEP. NO ONE IN MY HOUSEHOLD HAS DRIVEN THE JEEP SINCE. MY DAUGHTER EXPERIENCED THE SAME RAPID ACCELERATION IN FEBRUARY WHILE SHE WAS PARKING. SHE WAS GOING IN REVERSE TO PARK BETWEEN TWO PARKED CARS. THE JEEP ACCELERATED SO RAPIDLY SHE HIT THE CAR PARKED BEHIND. THE PARKED CAR SHE HIT WAS TOTALED.THE DEALER COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM AND CHRYSLER DROPPED THE CASE. IN MY CASE CHRYSLER SENT AN INSPECTOR TO INVESTIGATE THE PROBLEM. CHRYSLER DETERMINED THAT THAT THEY WOULD NOT CHANGE THEIR PREVIOUS POSITION AND DENIED ANY MECHANICAL DEFECT. WE HAVE A CAR WE ARE TERRIFIED TO DRIVE. IT CANNOT BE REPAIRED BECAUSE THE MECHANICAL DEFECT CANNOT BE DIAGNOSED.

I BROUGHT THIS TO THE ATTENTION OF THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT OF LANDMARK DODGE CHRYSLER JEEP WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR, AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE ENTIRE PANEL WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED IN ORDER TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM. THEY QUOTED TO ME A COST OF APPROXIMATELY $600 FOR EACH DOOR, MEANING IT WOULD COST ME ABOUT $2,400 TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. THIS CAN NOT BE A FLUKE THAT ALL 4 DOORS HAVE THE SAME DEFECT. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AND I AM CONCERNED THAT I, OR ANY PASSENGERS I MAY HAVE, WILL NOT BE ABLE TO EXIT MY VEHICLE BECAUSE OF IT. THIS IS CLEARLY A MANUFACTURERS DEFECT. ON 6/30/2015 I TOOK MY VEHICLE IN FOR P73 WARRANTY RECALL. ON7/12/2015 , WHEN I WAS BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY, MY 2005 JEEP SHIFTED INTO LOW 4 WHEEL DRIVE , WITHOUT ANY TOUCHING OF THE LEVER TO SHIFT INTO 4 WHEEL DRIVE. IT TOOK A COUPLE BLOCKS DRIVING VERY SLOW TO DISENGAGE FROM THE 4 WHEEL DRIVE LOW. I HAVE AN APPT. TO RETURN TO THE DEALER WHO PERFORMED THE SERVICE, TO HAVE IT CHECKED. RIGHT NOW I AM HESITANT TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE, FOR FEAR IT WILL SHIFT INTO 4 WHEEL DRIVE AGAIN, WITHOUT MY DOING ANYTHING, WHICH COULD DO SERIOUS DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE AT THE VERY LEAST. I CONTACTED JEEP CUSTOMER SUPPORT ON 6-22-15, BUT WAS TOLD THIS WAS NOT A KNOWN ISSUE AND THAT THERE WAS NO ASSISTANCE THEY COULD PROVIDE IN REPAIRING THE DOOR. THIS IS A WELL DOCUMENTED SAFETY ISSUE AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESS SO THAT CONSUMERS CAN GET ASSISTANCE IN DEALING WITH THE SAFETY PROBLEM.

THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WOULDN'T BE COVERED BY THE WARRANTY BECAUSE OF THE MILEAGE AND CALLED IT "WEAR AND TEAR". THIS IS A BIG ISSUE, MY PASSENGERS AND I CAN'T GET OUT OF MY JEEP UNLESS THE WINDOWS ARE DOWN AND REACH OUT OF THE VEHICLE TO OPEN WITH OUTSIDE HANDLE. THIS PART IS VERY WEAK AND PRONE TO FRACTURE, MAKING THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE FALL FREE INTO THE VEHICLE. THE DOORS ARE BARELY OPERABLE AND I AM WORRIED IN A COLLISION THESE DOORS WILL NOT FUNCTION. LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES IN DECEMBER 2010 AT 42,000 MILES OUR 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE (LIMITED) DEVELOPED A CRACK IN THE DRIVERS' DOOR HANDLE HOUSING CAUSING THE INSIDE DOOR HANDLE TO COME LOOSE FROM THE INSIDE DOOR PANEL. (THE DOOR HANDLE IS SET IN A HOLE MADE OF THIN PLASTIC THAT FUNCTIONS AS A PIVOT HINGE. ONCE THE PLASTIC CRACKS THEN THE HANDLE JUST POPS OUT OF THE DOOR PANEL.) THEN IN JANUARY 2011, THE RIGHT REAR DOOR HANDLE DEVELOPED THE SAME PROBLEM AND THIS DOOR HANDLE ALSO CAME OUT OF THE HANDLE HOUSING, AND IT CAN NO LONGER BE OPENED FROM INSIDE THE CAR. UPON INSPECTION WE DISCOVERED THAT BOTH THE RIGHT FRONT PASSENGER DOOR AND REAR LEFT PASSENGER DOOR HAVE DEVELOPED CRACKS IN THE PLASTIC IN THE SAME PLACE, AND WILL LIKELY BREAK SOON. WE NOTE THAT THERE HAVE BEEN 42 IDENTICAL COMPLAINTS LODGED ON THE NHTSA SITE INVOLVING THIS SAME PROBLEM ON THE 2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. HERE IN FLORIDA, WITH FREQUENT OPPORTUNITIES TO RUN OFF THE ROAD INTO LAKES OR CANALS, THIS PROBLEM IS EXTREMELY SERIOUS, POSSIBLY CAUSING PERSONS TO DROWN IN THE CAR WHEN UNABLE TO UNLATCH THE DOOR IN AN EMERGENCY. CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SERVICE HAS SAID THEY DO NOT HAVE A RECORD OF THIS ISSUE AND THEY DO NOT FEEL THAT THEY SHOULD COVER THE REPAIRS IF THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY. SOME OTHER PERSONS WHO HAVE REPORTED THE ISSUE STATE THAT TO REPAIR THE DOOR HANDLE REQUIRES A COMPLETE REPLACEMENT OF THE SIDE DOOR PANELS AT A COST OF OVER $700 PER DOOR. IT IS ENTIRELY UNREASONABLE THAT A CAR WOULD HAVE NO WORKABLE DOOR HANDLES AFTER JUST 5 YEARS OR 42,000 MILES OF USE. THIS IS NOT NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR, NOR IS IT REASONABLE WEAR AND TEAR. WE RARELY HAVE BACK SEAT PASSENGERS IN THIS VEHICLE. IT IS CLEARLY A DEFECTIVE DESIGN AND SUBSTANDARD MATERIALS. CHRYSLER NEEDS TO RECALL THESE VEHICLES TO CORRECT THIS DANGEROUS SITUATION.

NO USED REPLACEMENT DOOR PANELS CAN BE FOUND VIA USED PART OUTLETS SHOWING THE EXTENT OF THE PROBLEM, AND OEM REPLACEMENT/REPAIR COSTS ARE OUTRAGEOUS AND IS NEARLY $2000 (I UNDERSTAND THESE PLASTIC MOULDINGS ARE ON NATIIONAL BACKORDER). NUMEROUS IDENTICAL INCIDENTS OF THIS FAILURE ARE EVIDENTLY PROLIFIC AS SOURCED BY INTERNET CUSTOMER SATISFACTION RESEARCH ON THE JEEP CHEROKEE AS WELL AS COMPLAINTS POSTED WITH THE DOT/NHTS. PLEASE ADD MY MOST VOCAL AND SERIOUS COMPLAINT ABOUT THIS OBVIOUS MANUFACTURING DEFECT. I HAVE OWNED TWO PRIOR JEEPS (96, 94) AND NEVER EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM. FACTORY REP SAYS IT IS IN THE DESIGN OF THE VEHICLE AND REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. HAVE NOTICED PROBLEM ON OTHER 2005'S AS WELL. *NM
