When driving it will randomly shift into 4th gear very hard and stay in 4th until you turn it off. It will happen at any speed and be fine for months or do have the issues consistently for long period of time then stop. It happens with no pattern or related reasons.

RECENTLY I BECAME AWARE OF THE FCA GROUP P57 RECALL WHICH IS AN UPDATED IGNITION CYLINDER AND WIRELESS MODULE AFTER ASKING AROUND MY CIRCLE ABOUT MY TWO VEHICLES STALLING. MOST RECENTLY MY WIFE AND CHILD WHERE DRIVING AT 110KPH DRIVING STRAIGHT WHEN HER GC SHUT OFF. SHE SAFELY PULLED TO THE SIDE BUT THIS IS EXTREMELY UNNERVING. MY GC HAS ALSO TURNED OFF, BUT MINE HAS BEEN AT LOWER SPEEDS OR WHEN IDLING. MY VIN IS [XXX] HER VIN IS [XXX] MY LOCAL DEALER HAS SAID THERE IS NO OUSTTANDING RECALL AND THAT P57 DOES NOT APPLY TO EITHER OF MY VINS. \THIS IS CONFUSING SINCE MY EXISTING IGNITION CYLINDERS ARE THE SAME AS THOSE COVERED UNDER THE RECALL AND THE NEW PART REQUIRES A PUSH-TO-TURN (MINE DO NOT HAVE THIS NOW). I WAS DRIVING DOWN A BUSY ROAD AND ALL MY WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON AT ONCE-ABS, CHECK ENGINE, BATTERY, ETC. ALL MY LIGHTS STARTED TO FLICKER. MY HEAD LIGHTS BEGAN TO GET VERY DIMMED SO I TRIED SWITCHING MY FOG LIGHTS OR HIGH BEAMS ON BUT THAT ONLY MADE IT WORSE AND THE LIGHTS COMPLETELY TURNED OFF. MY WINDSHIELD WIPERS BEGAN GOING VERY SLOW MAKING IT REALLY HARD TO SEE AS IT WAS RAINING. I WAS ABLE TO PULL ONTO A SIDE STREET. THEY SAID THEY WERE UNABLE TO. THIS HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES. EACH TIME, SO FAR, I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO COAST TO A STOP OUT OF TRAFFIC, BUT I FEAR THAT IT MAY HAPPEN IN A LESS FORTUNATE SETTING. IT HAPPENED AGAIN TODAY, JUST DRIVING STRAIGHT AHEAD DOWN THE ROAD. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND A RED LIGHTING BOLT LIGHT ALSO COMES ON OVER ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE INSTRUMENT PANEL.

THE DRIVE TRAIN HAS BEEN INSPECTED BY BOTH INDEPENDENT MECHANICS AS WELL AS JEEP'S AUTHORIZED SERVICE CENTER IN YONKER'S, NY WITH REPORTS OF NO PHYSICAL DAMAGE. THE JEEP SERVICE CENTER HAS STATED THAT WHILE THEY TOO HAVE EXPERIENCED THE MALFUNCTION, THEY ARE INCAPABLE OF DIAGNOSING THE PROBLEM, SUGGESTING IT BE DRIVEN BY THE OWNER "UNTIL IT WORSENS".

I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE. IN LESS THAN 1000 MILES WITHIN PURCHASE THE 4W DRIVE LIGHT CAME ON. I WAS PARKED ON A CURB AT A RETIREMENT HOME AND A AMBULANCE WAS PARKED IN FRONT OF ME. WHILE I WAS INSIDE PEOPLE RAN IN AND SAID MY JEEP WAS ROLLING AWAY AND IT HIT THE AMBULANCE IN FRONT OF ME. THE JEEP WAS PARKED AND TURNED OFF WHEN IT ROLLED AWAY. WITNESSES AND THE POLICE REPORT CONFIRM THIS. AFTER GETTING THE RUN AROUND FROM THE DEALERSHIP FOR 6 MONTHS I TOOK IT SOMEWHERE ELSE TO GET IT LOOKED AT AND WAS TOLD THE TRANSFER CASE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.

IT REQUIRES A COMPLETE RESTART OF THE VEHICLE. THE KEY MUST BE TURNED TO THE OFF POSITION AND RESTARTED. IT HAS DONE THIS SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE. IT SEAMS TO HAPPEN UNDER A LOAD OR WHILE ACCELERATING OR PULLING A HILL. IT HAS HAPPENED IN HIGH TRAFFIC CIRCUMSTANCES AND HAS AT TIMES BEEN DIFFICULT AND DANGEROUS TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I'VE TAKEN IT TO JEEP TO HAVE IT REPAIRED. THEY APPARENTLY HAVE A STAR CASE NUMBER S1218000003 IN WHICH THEY SAY TO CHANGE THE SPARK PLUGS. THIS SEEMS LIKE A DANGEROUS SITUATION TO PUT CONSUMERS IN.

MY 2008 GRAND CHEROKEE WILL NOT START AT ALL. DASH LIGHT UP BUT WILL NOT TURN OVER. BATTERY IN NEW. STARTER TESTED AND OK. WIN RECALL WAS PERFORMED. 4WD SOFTWARE UPDATES WERE PERFORMED. OVER THE PAST YEAR THE VEHICLE HAS HAD MULTIPLE NO START/NO CRANK ISSUES. AFTER FEW HOURS OR DAYS, IT WILL TURN OVER. VEHICLES IS ALWAYS PARKED/NOT MOVING WHEN THIS OCCURS. THE DEALER WANTS ME TO PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR THE TOW FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. IF THE TEST DOES NOT SHOW ANYTHING, I PAY ANOTHER $120 FOR THE DIAG AND HAVE TO PAY FOR TOW ELSEWHERE. JEEP CUSTOMER SERVICE IS USELESS. I PAY MONTHLY PAYMENT AND INSURANCE FOR A DRIVEWAY ORNAMENT.

IT HAS HAPPENED AT LOW SPEEDS AND AT SPEEDS UP TO 30 MPH. SOMETIMES THE VEHICLE WON'T LET YOU SHIFT TO PARK TO RESTART IT. THERE ARE NO INDICATOR LIGHTS WHEN IT HAPPENS. VERY SCARY AS ITS HAPPENING MORE FREQUENTLY. IT HAS HAPPENED IN DRY AND WET CONDITIONS, ON RESIDENTIAL AND CITY STREETS. ALL INDICATIONS ARE THAT ITHE CAUSE IS THE SAME AS OTHER FIAT CHRYSLER RECALLS FIR THE 2008 GRAND CHEROKEE THOUGH OURS IS NOT ON A RECALL LIST.

THE 5.7 LITER HEMI MOTOR IN ALL CHRYSLER VEHICLES HAVE THIS SIMILAR ISSUE. THE DRIVER SIDE EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS BREAK AND AN EXHAUST LEAK SPUTTERS OUT OF THE DRIVER SIDE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. I SPOKE TO SEVERAL MECHANICS AND CHRYSLER SERVICE TECHNICIANS AND THEY ALL CONFIRM IT IS A COMMON REPAIR. I HAVE ALSO SEEN NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ONLINE. THE COST TO REPLACE THE MANIFOLD AND DRILL OUT THE BROKEN BOLTS IS AROUND $700.00. ALTHOUGH THIS IS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE I STILL BELIEVE IT SHOULD BE RECALLED INSTEAD OF THE MANUFACTURER PASSING THE BILL TO THE CONSUMER. VEHICLE HAS HAD A HISTORY OF UNRESOLVED ELECTRICAL ISSUES BEGINNING AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE. IN 2009, THE IGNITION SWITCH BEGAN TO FAIL AND THE KEY FOB WAS REPLACED. DUE TO A VIN NUMBER ISSUE WITH A REPLACEMENT PROGRAM, CHRYSLER REFUSED TO REPLACE THE KEY ASSEMBLIES THOUGH THEY WERE REPLACING IDENTICAL ASSEMBLIES ON OTHER VEHICLES THAT USED THE SAME MODULES. SEVERAL "REPROGRAMMING" HAVE BEEN CONDUCTED TO CLEAR PROBLEMS. SPECIFIC ISSUES INCLUDE: 1. ERRATIC BEHAVIOR OF ELECTRICAL SYSTEM THAT STEMS FROM THE OPERATION OF THE IGNITION SWITCH. FOR EXAMPLE THE ENGINE WILL START BUT THE VEHICLE WILL BE IMPOSSIBLE TO SHIFT OUT OF PARK AND THE RADIO/NAVIGATION WILL NOT WORK UNTIL YOU JIGGLE THE IGNITION SWITCH AND KEY FOB. 2. CHRONIC FAILURE OF THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE. YOU CAN BE DRIVING ALONG AT ANY SPEED AND YOU WILL LOSE THROTTLE CONTROL. THIS HAS CAUSED SEVERAL NEAR MISS ACCIDENTS. CHRYSLER ISSUED A RECALL (N23) FOR PROBLEMS WITH JEEP TRANSFER CASES SHIFTING INTO NEUTRAL UNEXPECTEDLY. I'VE SEEN NO POSTS WHERE THIS ACTUALLY HAPPENED. AGAINST MY BETTER JUDGMENT, I HAD THE RECALL DONE. IMMEDIATELY PEOPLE STARTED HAVING ISSUES WITH 4LO NO LONGER WORKING, AND "SERVICE 4WD" MESSAGES SHOWING ON THE DASH. THESE ARE MY SYMPTOMS ALSO. PEOPLE THAT FLAT TOW THE JEEP BEHIND A MOTOR HOME COULD NO LONGER SWITCH THE TRANSFER CASE TO NEUTRAL (IRONIC HUH?). WHAT DOES CHRYSLER DO? THEY DON'T EVEN ACKNOWLEDGE THEIR PROBLEM. 2008 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO FINAL DRIVE CONTROLLER MODULE RECALL. CONSUMER STATES RECALL REPAIR DAMAGED VEHICLE. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED THE RECALL WAS PERFORMED IN OCTOBER 2013. HOWEVER, HE DID NOT KNOW AT THE TIME, IT DAMAGED THE VEHICLE. IT WASN'T UNTIL JANUARY 2014, THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT GO INTO TOWABLE MODE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. AN INSPECTION REVEALED THE VEHICLE NEEDED A NEW TRANSFER CASE MOTOR, AND CHRYSLER WOULD PAY FOR THE REPAIRS, BUT THE PART WOULD NOT BE AVAILABLE FOR SIX MONTHS. THE CONSUMER FILED A CLAIM WITH CHRYSLER, AND FIVE WEEKS LATER THE PART ARRIVED, AND WAS EVENTUALLY INSTALLED. LATE APRIL 2014, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO TOWABLE MODE. JEEP HAS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSFER CASE ACTUATOR MOTOR. LAST FALL, 9-19-13 I BROUGHT IT IN FOR A RECALL, NUMBER N23. WENT INTO DEALERSHIP SERVICE CENTER TO HAVE "N23" SAFETY RECALL PERFORMED. BEFORE N23 SOFTWARE UPDATE THERE WAS NO PROBLEM USING THE 4WD-LOW FUNCTION, AFTERWARDS THE 4WD-LOW SHIFT FUNCTION COMES UP WITH "SERVICE 4WD" CODE AND WILL NOT SHIFT INTO 4WD-LOW. I DISCOVERED THIS WHILE STUCK IN A SNOW DRIFT THIS WEEKEND. AFTER RESEARCHING THE ISSUE I DISCOVERED THAT MANY JEEP OWNERS THAT WENT IN FOR THE N23 RECALL ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. *TR

I BELIEVE THIS ISSUE/COMPLAINT IS A RESULT OF SAFETY RECALL N23/NHTSA 13V-175. TEN DAYS AGO WE WERE PREPARING TO HOOK UP MY JEEP FOR TOWING BEHIND OUR RV. WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO PUT THE TRANSFER CASE INTO NEUTRAL IT WOULD NOT MOVE AND I WOULD GET A 'SERVICE 4W SYSTEM' ERROR MESSAGE. WE TOOK THE JEEP TO THE DEALER AND WAS ADVISED THE TRANSFER CASE MODULE WAS BAD. THE WORST NEWS WAS THERE WERE NONE TO BE FOUND WITHIN HUNDREDS OF MILES AND I HAD NO POWERTRAIN WARRANTY. TEN DAYS LATER AND I AM STILL WAITING FOR A REPLACEMENT PART. THIS IS THE PART THAT WAS 'REPROGRAMMED' AS PART OF THE SAFETY RECALL N23/NHTSA 13V-175. EVER SINCE THIS REPROGRAMMING WAS PERFORMED I HAVE NO 4X4, NO 4LOW OR NEUTRAL. THIS IS EXPENSIVE TO REPAIR AND WE WERE FORCED TO CANCEL OUR TRIP. NOW, AS A REALTOR IN UPSTATE NY I AM NOT ABLE TO DO MY JOB AS I CANNOT TAKE BUYERS TO PROPERTIES ON SNOW COVERED ROADS. MY JEEP WORKED PERFECTLY FINE UNTIL THIS MODULE WAS REPROGRAMMED. ADDITIONALLY, NOW I HEAR A THUMPING NOISE FROM THE REAR (IT SOUNDS LIKE THE REAR,) WHEN I FIRST START OUT EVERY MORNING. I SEE OTHER JEEP OWNERS ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM, AND FEEL CONFIDENT THAT THIS PART IS BEING REPLACED ALL OVER THE US AS A RESULT OF FAULTY REPROGRAMMING...AND THAT IS WHY THEY CANNOT GET A NEW ONE. I DO NOT WANT TO WAIT TILL THIS PROBLEM CAUSES OTHER ELECTRICAL ISSUES, WHICH IT VERY WELL COULD. I BELIEVE CHRYSLER IS ULTIMATELY RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS REPAIR AS MY TRANSFER CASE WORKED FINE TILL THEY REPROGRAMMED IT. *TR

WE ARE FULL TIME RVERS AND HAVE TOWED OUR JEEP ABOUT 40,000 MILES WITHOUT ANY ISSUES, UNTIL THE RECENT RECALL. NHTSA #13V75000, CHRYSLER N23. THE VERY INNOCUOUS RECALL NOTICE SPOKE OF THE DOT REQUIRING THE RECALL BASED ON A NUMBER OF CASES WHERE THE TRANSFER CASE SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL ON IT'S OWN AND THE VEHICLE ROLLED AWAY, CAUSING DAMAGE. THE RECALL WENT ON TO SAY THAT THE FIX WAS TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER FOR A SOFTWARE REPROGRAMMING TO TAKE CARE OF THE ISSUE. THE RECALL NOTICE WAS VERY CAREFULLY AND CLEVERLY WRITTEN TO LEAVE ONE WITH THE IMPRESSION THAT A SOFTWARE ISSUE WAS THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM, AND JEEP WAS GOING TO FIX IT WITH THE REFLASH OF THE TRANSMISSION COMPUTER. THIS IS NOT TRUE. THE ISSUE IS CAUSED BY THE FAILURE OF HARDWARE IN THE TRANSFER CASE, AND THE ?FIX? OFFERED BY JEEP IS NOTHING MORE THAN A BAND AID TO MEET THE STRICT LETTER OF THE DEMAND BY THE NHTSA. AS THOUSANDS OF JEEP OWNERS ARE NOW LEARNING, AFTER THE RECALL THEY FIND THEMSELVES IN A SITUATION WHERE THE TRANSFER CASE WILL NO LONGER SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL, OR 4WD LOW, AT ALL. I HAVE PERSONAL KNOWLEDGE OF DOZENS OF JEEP OWNERS WITH THESE ISSUES WHO NEVER HAD A PROBLEM BEFORE THE RECALL. THIS PROBLEM CREATES A GREAT UNCERTAINTY AMONG OWNERS. WE DON'T KNOW IF THE 4WD SYSTEM WILL WORK WHEN NEEDED, OR END UP STUCK IN NEUTRAL OR 4WD LOW, MAKING THE VEHICLE UNUSABLE. WHILE NOT BEING ABLE TO TOW MAY NOT BE A SAFETY ISSUE, I THINK THAT DISABLING A 4WD SYSTEM THAT MANY PEOPLE RELY ON IN BAD TERRAIN OR WEATHER WOULD BE. I DON'T THINK THAT NHTSA HAS MONITORED THIS SITUATION PROPERLY AND HAS ALLOWED CHRYSLER TO COMMIT WHAT AMOUNTS TO A FRAUD UPON THEIR CUSTOMERS. I THINK NHTSA NEEDS TO TAKE ANOTHER LOOK AT THIS ISSUE. *TR

I STARTED TO GET SERVICE 4 WD SYSTEM LIGHT THIS STARTED AFTER I HAD TAKEN VEHICLE IN FOR RECALL ABOUT TRANSFER CASE NEUTRAL PROBLEM. I HAD NEVER HAD A PROBLEM BEFORE THIS HAD IT LOOKED AT BY CERTIFIED MECHANIC. HE CHECKED ALL SYSTEMS AND THEY CHECKED OUT OK HE CLEARED ERROR CODE. A DAY OR SO LATER IT RETURNED. HE SAID I SHOULD RETURN TO DEALER. THEY SAID IT WAS A BAD TRANSFER CASE RANGE SENSOR. A DEEPER LOOK AND I FOUND THAT MANY PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS SAME TROUBLE AFTER HAVING FLASH UPDATE FOR RECALL. THIS PART HAS A LARGE BACK ORDER ( I WAS TOLD BY DEALER PART OVER 500 PIECE ) AND THEY COULD ONLY ORDER ONE EVERY 14 DAYS. *TR

MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN MAINTAINED BY THE DEALERSHIP. I HAVE 56K MILES ON A 2008 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED HEMI 8CYLINDER I DO NOT DO ANY OFF ROADING I AM TOLD TODAY THAT I NEED AN UPPER DIFFERENTIAL HOUSING INSULATOR AND PINION SEALS WHICH ARE LEAKING. THESE PRODUCTS SHOULD LAST LONGER THAN 56K IN MILES AND ARE A CONSIDERABLE COST TO THE CONSUMER FOR A 5 YEAR OLD JEEP. THERE ARE SEVERAL BULLETINS OUT ABOUT THIS ISSUE BUT JEEP DID NOT CONSIDER HELPING ME BECAUSE I WAS OUT OF MY 3 YEAR 36,000 MILE WARRANTY WHICH IS CLEARLY NOT ENOUGH FOR DEFECTIVE PARTS. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE FAILURE WOULD RECUR SPORADICALLY HOWEVER, AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V175000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, POWER TRAIN) THE FAILURE HAD BECOME PERMANENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE A DIAGNOSTIC WAS PERFORMED, WHICH DID NOT GENERATE A FAILURE CODE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 77,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 81,000.

VEHICLE SHIFTED INTO 4WD LOW BY ITSELF WHILE DRIVING IN A PARKING LOT. I PARKED THE JEEP IN A PARKING SPACE, AND AFTER PLACING THE TRANSMISSION SELECTOR IN PARK, THE JEEP STARTED ROLLING. I HAD TO USE THE PARKING BRAKE TO KEEP IT FROM ROLLING OUT OF THE SPACE. THE REPAIR SHOP REPLACED THE TRANSFER CASE ACTUATOR AND HARNESS DUE TO THE TRANSFER CASE SHIFTING IN AND OUT OF 4WD, AND HAVING NO PARK, WHICH CAUSED IT TO ROLL. I PAID TO HAVE THIS REPAIR WORK DONE, JUST PRIOR TO JEEP ISSUING RECALL N23. JEEP HAS REFUSED TO REIMBURSE ME FOR THIS REPAIR. ON THREE OCCASIONS, I HAVE EXPLAINED TO THE REIMBURSEMENT DEPT, THAT MY VEHICLE ROLLED OUT OF IT'S PARKING SPACE AND SHIFTED IN AND OUT OF 4WD AND NEUTRAL ON ITS OWN. CHRYSLER CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE REFUSES TO REIMBURSE PER THE STATED LANGUAGE IN THEIR OWN RECALL. I HAVE SENT CHRYSLER ALL THE REQUIRED REPAIR DOCUMENTS AND RECEIPTS.

JEEP STALLED ON THE FREEWAY. I WAS GOING 65 MPH ON I-71 AND IT STALLED DEAD IN THE ROADWAY. I HAD TO PULL OVER AFTER AVOIDING OTHER VEHICLES AND RESTART THE VEHICLE. WHEN IT STALLED, IT GAVE NO WARNING, SIMPLY DIED ON THE FREEWAY AND I WAS LEFT WITH NO BRAKES, NO STEERING AND LIMITED DRIVABLITY. I CALLED CHRYSLER AND GOT A PERSON BY THE NAME OF [XXX] AS MY CASE MANAGER. SHE WAS THE MOST CLUELESS AND INCOMPETENT PERSON I HAVE EVER SPOKEN WITH. DRIVING AT THE POSTED SPEED LIMIT ON A 4 LANE DIVIDED HIGHWAY, THE 2008 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE MY WIFE WAS OPERATING, VIOLENTLY AND WITHOUT WARNING SWERVED OFF THE ROAD. MY WIFE DESCRIBED THE EVENT AS "ALL THE WHEELS SUDDENLY STOPPED SPINNING". THE SUV FIRST WENT OFF THE RIGHT SHOULDER OF THE ROAD, THEN SKIDDED ACROSS TWO LANES OF TRAFFIC AND SWERVED OFF THE LEFT SHOULDER, NEARLY ROLLING OVER AND COMING TO REST IN THE MEDIAN NEAR AN EMBANKMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A NEARBY JEEP DEALERSHIP WHERE IT WAS SUBSEQUENTLY EVALUATED. THE SERVICE MANAGER NOTED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS RELATED TO THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL. HE SURMISED THAT THE COMPONENT WAS ASSEMBLED "OUT OF SPEC" AND SUBSEQUENTLY FAILED CATASTROPHICALLY. THE DIFFERENTIAL WAS REBUILT AND THE VEHICLE RETURNED. WIFE TRAVELING WITH SON ON FWY AT LEGAL SPEED OF 70 MPH W/CRUISE CONTROL ON, CAR SUDDENLY DECELERATED CAUSING A VIOLENT MANEUVER FORCING CAR INTO NEIGHBORING LANE AND ALMOST CRASHING. SHE STATED IT WAS AS IF IT SUDDENLY DOWNSHIFTED INTO LOWEST GEAR AND BRAKES APPLIED FORCEFULLY. REGAINING CONTROL SHE DEACTIVATED THE CRUISE CONTROL AND PROCEEDED TO DESTINATION AT 50 MPH. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP IN DAVIS WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED AS CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF THE TRANSFER CASE WHICH WAS THEN REPLACED AT THE COST OF $2842.75. SHE RETRIEVED CAR TWO DAYS LATER AND PROCEEDED TO DRIVE BACK HOME (DISTANCE IS @ 178 MI ONE WAY). CAR REPEATED SUDDEN DECELERATION UPON ENTERING THE FWY AND GETTING UP TO SPEED. CONTINUED HOME DUE TO MEDICAL APPOINTMENTS TO KEEP. KEPT CRUISE CONTROL OFF BUT CALLED DEALERSHIP TO REPORT THAT REPLACING THE TRANSFER CASE DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. I PULLED CODES UPON HER ARRIVING HOME AND FOUND ONLY CODE 0430 (CATALYST SYSTEM EFFICIENCY BELOW THRESHOLD [BANK 2] INDICATING THE CONVERTER NOT WORKING TO SPECS. TODAY SHE WAS RETURNING TO DAVIS TO VISIT WITH GRANDCHILDREN AND EXPERIENCED THE SAME SITUATION. AT 70 MPH CAR SUDDENLY DECELERATED RAPIDLY (AS IF BRAKES WERE APPLIED FORCEFULLY) AND CAUSED HER TO ABRUPTLY MOVE INTO THE LANE TO HER LEFT. SHE REGAINED CONTROL AND CONTINUED ON AT 50 MPH. THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED HER NO MECHANICS WOULD BE AVAILABLE UNTIL MONDAY BUT AS SHE HAS A FLIGHT OUT OF LAX TO CATCH EARLY MONDAY A.M. SHE DECIDED TO CONTINUE ON TO L.A. WITHOUT USING THE CRUISE CONTROL AND PROCEEDING AT SLOWER SPEED. THE POWER STEERING PUMP WAS REPLACED ON 4/15/2013 AT DEALERSHIPS RECOMMENDATION DUE TO A LEAK AND THE TRANSMISSION WAS SERVICED IN ADDITION TO HAVING NEW VALVE COVER AND GASKET PUT ON. SPARK PLUGS REPLACED, THROTTLE BODY AND COMBUSTION CHAMBERS CLEANED AND PCV VALVE REPLACED. INTERNET RESEARCH INDICATES THIS IS A REPEATED PROBLEM WITH THE JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE

8/8/12 DRIVING FROM TEMPLE TX TO TUNICA MS (STOPPING THERE BEFORE CONTINUING ON TO INDIANAPOLIS, IN). CAR GAVE NO ISSUES/INDICATIONS OF TROUBLE. 8/9/12 CAR WOULD BARELY GO 10 MILES PER HOUR LEAVING THE HOTEL, WOULD STOP FORWARD PROGRESS OF ANY KIND IF I STOPPED, HAD TO PUT IN PARK, TURN OFF CAR AND TURN ON AGAIN. HAD TO CROSS 4 LANE HIGHWAY, BUT COULD NOT GET CAR TO MOVE FORWARD FAST ENOUGH TO CLEAR ALL 4 LANES AND MIDDLE DIVIDER. TOOK IT IN 2 GREEN LIGHT TRIES AND PULLED INTO GAS STATION (1/2 MILE FROM HOTEL), GAVE CAR A REST, FILLED GAS AND SAME PROBLEM WHEN STARTED AGAIN. HAD TO CALL TOW TRUCK AND BRING TO LOCAL JEEP DEALER, 7 HOURS WAITING AT DEALER TO BE TOLD WE HAD AN EARLY MAJOR TRANSMISSION FAILURE AND IT WOULD BE 8/13 BEFORE IT WOULD BE READY. RENTED A CAR TO CONTINUE OUR VACATION. $3,934.73, TRANSMISSION REPAIRED, FAILURE OCCURRED AT 41,138 MILES, CHRYSLER ADMITS IT IS AN EARLY FAILURE (AND STATES WE ARE OUT OF ALL WARRANTIES), MS DEALER STATES EARLY FAILURE AND POWERTRAIN SHOULD BE COVERED, CONTACT CHRYSLER WHEN WE GET HOME AND LOCAL DEALER HERE STATES 5/50000 ON POWERTRAIN. CHRYSLER REFUSES TO REIMBURSE MORE THAN $1500 WHICH WE HAVE NOT ACCEPTED AND REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE 5 YEAR/50,000 MILE POWER TRAIN WARRANTY. HAD THIS FAILED WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS IT COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT FOR OURSELVES AND OTHERS. CHRYSLER HAS NOT CALLED TO THIS DAY THE REPAIR DEALERSHIP TO UNDERSTAND WHY THE TRANSMISSION FAILURE OCCURRED. WE WERE TOLD THE OIL HAD BURNT BY THE DEALERSHIP? THERE WAS PLENTY OF TRANSMISSION FLUID, IT WAS JUST BURNT. WE ARE WRITING TO YOU TO BRING THIS POTENTIAL SAFETY ISSUE WITH EARLY TRANSMISSION FAILURE TO YOUR ATTENTION AND TO ASK WHAT EXACTLY IS THE NHTSA/DOT REGULATIONS REGARDING POWER TRAIN COVERAGE/FAILURES AND WHAT RECOURSE WE MAY HAVE. WHILE STUCK ON ICE IN OUR DRIVEWAY, MY WIFE WAS CONCERNED ABOUT BACKING DOWN THE DRIVEWAY TO RETRY GETTING TO THE HOUSE, SHE HAD THE 2008 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE IN PARK, I WENT TO ASSIST IN BACKING DOWN THE DRIVEWAY, SHE HOPPED OVER THE CONSOLE AND HIT THE GEARSHIFT WITH HER LEG OR FOOT THE JEEP GEARSHIFT THEN WENT FROM PARK, INTO REVERSE WITHOUT THE BRAKE BEING DEPRESSED AS IS THE DESIGN, THE JEEP RAPIDLY WENT BACKWARDS THE OPEN DOOR "SCOOPING ME TOWARD THE UNDERSIDE OF THE JEEP, I WAS ABLE TO ROLL AWAY FROM THE JEEP, MY WIFE THEN GOT INTO THE DRIVER SEAT AND PUT INTO PARK JUST BEFORE CRASHING INTO THE WOODED AREA ALONG OUR DRIVEWAY. A CHECK OF THE INTERLOCK SYSTEM SHOWED IT WAS AND STILL IS NON WORKING. THIS INCIDENT COULD HAVE BEEN MET WITH TRAGIC RESULTS HAD I NOT BEEN ABLE TO ROLL AWAY FROM THE UNDERSIDE OF THE MOVING JEEP, AND HAD MY WIFE BEEN UNABLE TO STOP THE JEEP WHEN SHE DID. AS A RESULT I HAVE SUSTAINED PAIN TO MY LOWER BACK, AND MY WIFE TO HER CERVICAL SPINE. *TR

I RECENTLY PURCHASED A NEWER MODEL USED VEHICLE THAT HAS STARTED TO PRESENT SOME SERIOUS CONCERNS THAT THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED IT CANNOT FIGURE OUT THE PROBLEM AND DISCOUNTS MY COMPLAINT. MY VEHICLE'S MOTOR ACTS AS IF IS GOING TO STALL ON TAKE OFF FROM A STOP POSITION. I HAVE ATTEMPTED ON 3 SEPARATE OCCASIONS TO HAVE THE PROBLEM SERVICED BY THE DEALERSHIP'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT; HOWEVER, THE DEALERSHIP TELLS ME THEY HAVE NO CONCERNS WITH THE VEHICLE. ALTHOUGH THE PROBLEM IS NOT PRESENTING ITSELF WHEN I BRING IT TO THE DEALERSHIP, IT IS HAPPENING MORE OFTEN NOW THAN IN THE BEGINNING OF THE VEHICLE'S PURCHASE THAT I KNOW THE PROBLEM IS ESCALATING. I CANNOT FIGURE OUT WHAT "TRIGGERS" THIS EVENT EXCEPT THAT WHEN IT DOES HAPPEN, MY TWO YOUNG CHILDREN ARE IN THE VEHICLE. A NEW ISSUE ALSO HAS PRESENTED ITSELF. ON JULY 4, AS WE WERE TRAVELING DOWN A NARROW ROAD ALIGNED BY TREES, THE VEHICLE DOWN SHIFTED SO HARD IT CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO ACCELERATE AND FORCIBLY JERK; HOWEVER, WE IMMEDIATELY REGAINED CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. VEHICLE ACCELERATED WHEN PUT INTO REVERSE. CHRYSLER SENT AN "INDEPENDANT" INSPECTOR, BUT THEY WILL NOT SHARE THE REPORT. IN FACT, CHRYSLER LIED ABOUT CONDUCTING THE INSPECTION. THEY TOLD ME THE INSPECTOR COULD NOT DO AN EVALUATION BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS "DISASSEMBLED". THE DEALER TELLS ME THE INSPECTOR SPENT TWO HOURS WITH A SERVICE TECHNICIAN AND TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE. I ALWAYS GET SUSPICIOUS WHEN SOMEONE LIES TO ME. THIS REQUIRES FOLLOW UP TO MAKE SURE THEY ARE NOT HIDING AN UNSAFE DEFECT IN THEIR VEHICLE. *TR

2008 GRAND CHEROKEE 4X4 4.7L FLEXFUEL STALLING AT VARIOUS HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THROTTLE LAGGING, HARSH UP/DOWN SHIFTING, HESITATION ON TORQUE DEMAND, FUEL MILEAGE REDUCED BY 20%. AFTER THE FIRST TWO STALLING OCCURRENCES, THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE FCM (FRONT CONTROL MODULE) SINCE THE SERIAL NUMBER OF THE INSTALLED ONE-337- MATCHED THE FEBRUARY 2008 RECALL, ALTHOUGH CHRYSLER DATABASE VIN RECALL SEARCH CAME BACK EMPTY??!! THE THIRD AND FOURTH STALLING EVENTS WERE FOLLOWED UP BY THE REPLACEMENT OF THE PCM (POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE) SINCE A "SOFT FAULT"-"TORQUE REQUEST DENIED" WAS FOUND STORED WITHIN THE CONTROLLER. HOWEVER, AFTER SIX HUNDRED MILES, A FIFTH STALLING OCCURRED. THIS TIME A HARD FAULT RELATED TO THE MAP SENSOR (INTAKE MANIFOLD ABSOLUTE PRESSURE) WAS FOUND. THE REPLACEMENT WAS SCHEDULED IN 48 HOURS. THERE WERE SIX DEALERSHIP APPOINTMENTS(ONLY TWO DOCUMENTED THOUGH ??!!) AND IT WAS INVARIABLY EITHER "WE HAVE TO ORDER THE PART" OR "THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WE COULD POINT AT". THE ALMOST NEW VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE TO BE DRIVEN ON PUBLIC ROADS. YET CHRYSLER NEVER PROVIDED A TEMPORARY REPLACEMENT UNTIL THE SAFETY HAZARD COULD BE LOCATED AND ELIMINATED. AFTER EVERY ATTEMPT OF SOLVING THE PROBLEM, THE CUSTOMER IS SENT AWAY TO TRY HIS (HER) GOOD LUCK WITH A VEHICLE WHICH MIGHT BE OKAY. I DON'T THINK THIS A PROFESSIONAL APPROACH FOR BOTH CHRYSLER AND THE DEALERSHIP SERVICING THE VEHICLE. GUESSING AND SAFETY DOES NOT BELONG WITHIN THE SAME SENTENCE ! *TR

THE PCM DID NOT STOP THE SHAKING; HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE NO LONGER JERKED FORWARD. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN AT THE DEALER FIVE TIMES FOR THE SHAKING ISSUE, BUT THEY CANNOT REMEDY THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT FEELS THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE THE SHAKING AND JERKING ALMOST CAUSED A CRASH. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 11,700 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5,514. UPDATED 6/4/09 *CN THE REAR VIEW MIRROR WAS OUT OF FRAME, THE ENGINE HAD A ROUGH IDLE AND IT FELT AS THOUGH IT WAS GOING TO STALL. THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE WOULD SURGE FORWARD AND VIBRATE WHEN AT A STOP AND WOULD FEEL AS THOUGH THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL, EVEN MORE WITHOUT THE AIR CONDITION TURNED ON. THE EXPLANATION THE CONSUMER WAS GIVEN THAT THE AIR CONDITION WILL CYCLE ON AT THE SAME TIME THE COOLING FANS WHICH WAS SAID TO CAUSE THE PROBLEM. UPDATED 11/02/09.

IT WOULD NOT ROLL DOWN. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, THE ENGINE UNEXPECTEDLY STALLED. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE RESTARTED AFTER THE FIRST ATTEMPT. THE GEAR SHIFTER WAS PLACED INTO DRIVE AND THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, BUT THERE WAS NO RESPONSE. THE CONTACT MADE SEVERAL ATTEMPTS BEFORE THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE DRIVEN AGAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. IN ADDITION, THE GEAR SHIFTER WAS STUCK IN PARK AND WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO REVERSE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON A SEPARATE OCCASION FOR IDENTICAL FAILURES, BUT THERE WERE NO RESOLUTIONS. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. TL*- THE CONTACT LEASES A 2008 JEEP CHEROKEE 4X4. WHILE PULLING INTO A PARKING GARAGE THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATED, INSTEAD IT WENT INTO REVERSE. SHE WAITED A FEW MINUTES THEN WHEN SHE TRIED TO PROCEED FORWARD THE VEHICLE CONTINUED IN REVERSE THEN JERKED AND STRUCK THE PRECEDING VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER, WHO WASN'T ABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE DEALER STATED NOTHING WAS WRONG AND IT MIGHT HAVE BEEN DRIVER ERROR. A POLICE REPORT WAS TAKEN BY THE WHITE PLAINS POLICE DEPARTMENT REPORT NUMBER 08-10826. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE 2,511.
