My car is driving okay but it’s having some electrical issues and it shuts down.
The contact owns a 2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked, the contact attempted to put the key into ignition; however, the key was inoperative. The contact stated that the key was intermittently was stuck in the ignition. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle remained at the residence. The contact researched and was made aware of NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V567000 (Electrical System); however, the VIN was not included. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 115,000.

WIN Module failure
Just prior to a cross country trip, my airbag warning light came on. Upon arriving to our destination in Spring Hill, TN, I took my 2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee to have it checked. Their diagnosis found a "squib" problem, and told me there was a recall and to take it to a Chrysler dealer. Today, the dealership showed me a "squib" or "clockspring" issue & told me there was no recall and that I would have to pay out of pocket to replace what seems to be the recall problem. Upon further research, I found online that there is indeed a recall. But after calling the phone number provided, (800-853-1403) they informed me that even though it might be the same problem I would have to pay out of pocket for the repair. I don't understand why. My vehicle has stopped 3 times this year without warning. Twice while I was driving and once while my daughter was driving. There is a click sound and the radio and everything on in the vehicle goes. The vehicle begins to slow down. Luckly when this happened there were no cars around so each time we are able to stop the vehicle wait a second and start the vehicle without an issue. This is a very dangerous issue and this needs to be fixed ASAP.

I WAS DRIVING THE OTHER DAY AND ALL THE SUDDEN I HIT A BUMP AND THE KEY FOB FALLS OUT OF THE IGNITION CUTTING THE ENGINE COMPLETELY OFF. SO I WAS COASTING WITH NO ENGINE OR POWER. LUCKILY I PUT IT IN TO NEUTRAL AND IT STARTED BACK UP. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN VERY DANGEROUS. ALSO MY KEY WILL NOT RELEASE WHEN I AM TRYING TO TURN THE CAR OFF SO I HAVE TO LEAVE IT ON SOMETIMES AND IT HAS KILLED MY BATTERY. IF WE WAIT FOR SOME UNKNOWN PERIOD OF TIME IT EVENTUALLY CRANKS AND STARTS. WE NEVER KNOW WHEN AND IF WE CAN LEAVE OR VISA VERSA FOR RETURNING HOME. WHEN EVER THIS HAPPENS THE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY IN LEGAL PARKING PLACE. HOWEVER, IT HAS CUT OFF WILL DRIVING.

TOOK OUR JEEP TO THE DEALERSHIP AFTER THE KEY FOB KEPT GETTING STUCK IN THE IGNITION AND WOULDN'T RELEASE. THEY SAID IT WAS THE WIN MODULE THAT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AND THE KEY WOULD HAVE TO BE REPROGRAMMED FOR THAT WIN MODULE! WELL, SINCE THEN, WE'VE NOTICED THAT WHEN WE ARE ABLE TO GET THE KEY OUT (FROM HITTING ABOVE THE IGNITION TO GET IT TO RELEASE, OR WAITING AN HOUR FOR IT TO EJECT ON IT'S OWN) THE RADIO WILL KEEP PLAYING, SO WE HAVE TO TURN IT OFF, ALL OF THE DASH LIGHTS STAY ON, IT STILL DINGS IF THE DOOR IS OPEN AND ACTS LIKE THE KEY IS IN IT AFTER BEING REMOVED. NOW WE'RE RUNNING INTO MORE ISSUES WHILE WE'RE DRIVING WHERE IT STARTS GLITCHING AND THE COMPUTER MAKES ALL KINDS OF TERRIBLE SCARY SOUNDS AND HAS ACTUALLY POWERED DOWN ON US! NOW THE BATTERY IS DEAD AND WON'T START EVEN WITH A JUMP! MOST ISSUES STARTED OUT WHILE IN PARK AND JUST TRYING TO REMOVE KEY FOB, THAT LASTED A FEW MONTHS AND IT STILL DROVE FINE. 4 ISSUES: 1.VEHICLE WILL NOT RESTART RIGHT AWAY AFTER THE KEY FOB HAS BEEN TURNED OFF AND SOMETIMES I HAVE TO GET OUT AND DISENGAGE THE BATTERY FOR IT TO START AGAIN. 2. KEY FOB WILL COME OUT OF IGNITION WHEN IT IS TURNED TO ACCESSORY. 4. KEY FOB IS ABLE TO COME OUT WHEN VEHICLE IS RUNNING. 3. SOMETIMES KEY WILL NOT COME OUT OF IGNITION IF IT LOCKS UP. THERE ARE RECALLS ON THIS PROBLEM WITH JEEPS BUT FOR SOME REASON NOT MY VEHICLE. I DID HAVE IT FIXED AT THE JEEP DEALER BUT IT IS DOING THE SAME THING AFTER $600.00 . 09 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE ELECTRICAL ISSUE - SECOND OCCURRENCE: LOST ALL DASH GAUGES, SPEEDOMETER, LIGHTING, RADIO, TURN SIGNALS, NO BRAKE LIGHTS AND HEAT/AC WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY. I TOOK THE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY TO THE DEALER WITH THE ISSUE SHOWING. I WAS TOLD THAT SOMEONE WOULD LOOK AT THE VEHICLE, HOWEVER, I HAD TO LEAVE THE VEHICLE WITH THE DEALER OVERNIGHT. IT APPEARS THE DEALER DID NOT LOOK AT THE VEHICLE UNTIL THE NEXT DAY. DEALER RETURNED THE VEHICLE UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE PROBLEM. TOLD TO BRING THE VEHICLE BACK WHEN THE PROBLEM OCCURS AGAIN. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE WHICH COULD HAVE RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT. THE VEHICLE SHOULD BE RECALLED FOR SAFETY CONCERNS. THIS IS MY SECOND COMPLAINT TO NHTSA.

I WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED WHILE TURNING BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE. VEHICLE IS PARKED UNTIL IT CAN BE SERVICED. DEALER UNABLE TO SERVICE AND WOULD ONLY SCHEDULE AN APPOINT FOUR DAYS FROM TODAY.

CLEARLY CHRYSLER IS AWARE THERE IS AN ISSUE, AS THEY HAVE REPEATEDLY PICKED UP THE REPAIR TAB SINCE I STARTED AN ACTUAL CLAIM WITH CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SERVICE. I WILL START THE VEHICLE UP TO TEN TIMES NO PROBLEM, THEN STOP SOMEWHERE COME BACK TO START VEHICLE AGAIN AND IT JUST WONT START. CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SERVICE HAS DRAGGED THEIR FEET SO FAR, AND THEIR FOLLOW UP HAS BEEN POOR AT BEST. ALL THE DEALERSHIP HAS DONE IS CONTINUE TO RE DIAGNOSE THAT THERE IS A DIFFERENT PROBLEM EACH TIME AS I THE CONSUMER CONTINUE TO PAY THOUSANDS FOR THE FAULTY ELECTRICAL, AND CHEAP PARTS THAT HAVE BEEN ENGINEERED IN MY TRUCK. IT MAY BE A COINCIDENCE, BUT BOTH TIMES THIS HAPPENED, I HAD FILLED MY TANK WITH GAS THAT DAY. ON BOTH INSTANCES, I WAS ABLE TO PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND RESTART THE CAR WITH NO ISSUES. ADDITIONALLY, FOR THE PAST FEW MONTHS, THE CAR OFTEN DOES NOT START ON THE FIRST TRY. IT WILL START WITH NO PROBLEMS ON THE SECOND ATTEMPT. DEALERSHIP HAS REPLACED THE WIN MODULE; THIS DID NOT SEEM TO HELP. THE THROTTLE BOTTLE WAS ALSO REPLACED IN CASE THAT WAS CAUSING THE STALLING; THAT DID NOT HELP EITHER.I NOW FEEL AS IF I AM RISKING MY LIFE AND MY KIDS' LIVES EVERY TIME I STEP INTO THE CAR AND TAKE IT ON THE HIGHWAY. I WAS DRIVING ON THE GARDEN STATE PARKWAY NORTH TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 65MPH (THE SPEED LIMIT) AND I WAS IN THE LEFT LANE OF THE THREE LANE LOCAL LANES. I DRIFTED TOO FAR TO THE LEFT AND HIT THE RUMBLE STRIPS ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. IMMEDIATELY, MY TPMS LIGHT CAME ON AND I PULLED OVER RIGHT AWAY. APPARENTLY, MY TPMS SENSOR ON THE TIRE BROKE AND WAS LETTING AIR OUT OF MY TIRE. WHAT HAPPENED WAS, THE METAL SCREW THAT IS AROUND THE METAL VALVE STEM SHEERED OFF AND NOTHING WAS HOLDING THE VALVE STEM/TPMS IN PLACE EXCEPT FOR THE AIR PRESSURE INSIDE THE TIRE. WHEN I RAN OVER THE RUMBLE STRIP, IT MUST HAVE DISLODGED THE SENSOR AND STARTED LETTING AIR OUT OF MY TIRE. I WENT TO A TIRE SHOP AND THEY FOUND A BROKEN TPMS SENSOR AND THEY REPLACED THE VALVE STEM WITH A STANDARD NON-TPMS VALVE STEM. MY TIRE WAS UNDAMAGED AND IS BACK ON THE RIM, SO IT WAS 100% A PROBLEM WITH THE TPMS SENSOR. FURTHERMORE, LAST YEAR, I HAD A SIMILAR PROBLEM. I GOT A FLAT TIRE AND MY TPMS WAS DAMAGED. NOW, LOOKING BACK, I FEEL THAT THE TPMS MUST HAVE FAILED CAUSING MY FLAT TIRE. IN THAT INCIDENT, MY TIRE WAS DESTROYED BECAUSE OF THE FLAT. I NOTICE NOW THAT CHRYSLER HAS A NEWER VERSION OF THEIR TPMS SENSORS THAT GO ON THE WHEEL. THE NEW VERSION HAS A RUBBER VALVE STEM, WHILE THE ONES ON MY VEHICLE HAVE A METAL VALVE STEM. OBVIOUSLY, CHRYSLER HAS FOUND AN ISSUE WITH THE METAL ONES AND HAVE UPDATES THEIR PARTS. I THINK THAT THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE AND EVEN THOUGH I AM OK, I CAN FORSEE THIS CAUSING MAJOR PROBLEMS.
