Active head restraint deployed on drivers side while auto was moving in parking lot. This unexpected event made the driver come to a sudden stop. There was no impacts of this vehicle into any object. No injury to the driver in the parking lot but is pssible injury to driver and other in the parking lot could have happened. After inspection it looks like a plastic bracket broke inside the active head rest.
Hello, I am reporting failure on the 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee in which the drivers side headrest activated while the vehicle was not in operation and not involved in any accident. The active head restraint had activated while the vehicle was parked and in a non-running condition. No accident occurred during this time frame. The passenger side active headrest is still in the factory location and has not been activated. The drivers side head restraint has activated and can not be returned to original position. My current safety is at risk as the active head restraint is not functioning per original safety design intent. My head and neck are currently constrained in a position that causes discomfort while driving due to the location of the active head restraint. The manufacturer (Authorized dealer) has been contacted and they responded with a response including that a recall was not issued for this failure type. A warranty period was extended to 10 years from manufacture date which my 2013 has eclipsed. No inspections have been completed to date. The parts have been untouched since the date of discovery. There were no signs of this issues prior to discovery. There are no service or warning lights currently illuminated on the dash or driver information screen. This is a safety related failure and needs to be repaired by the OEM with no cost to the customer. A well documented and known issue exists and puts the owner/operator of the vehicle at a increased level of risk of injury by continuing to operate this vehicle in its current condition.
Passenger headrest popped out while driving downs the road. No accident bump or anything visible set it off. It punched out like an air bag.
Front passenger side headrest clips faulted causing the headrest to eject. Took it to the dealership and was quoted over $1,000 parts and labor for replacement.
Passenger seat headrest exploded and hit my wife in the head/ear/neck and now she is in a lot of pain. This is the most random thing I have ever seen. My wife and daughter were driving through a parking lot going 4mph and the headrest just exploded. The plastic pieces holding the springs back broke and let the headrest fly forward into my wife’s head/ear/neck
Active Headrest Restraint ( AHR) Drivers Side deployed overnight. This safety feature on many Jeeps is intended to protect motorists including passengers, in the event of rear end collisions by deploying. However a cursory review online reveals many many complaints, recalls, & TSBs . But my entire family now is exposed because Jeep wont extend recalls any longer. My recall expired 11 months ago. I was never notified by mail or by dealership that this recall would expire April 2023. I bought this SUV with understanding of its many safety features like AHD among others. Only makes sense that Stellantis /Jeep extend this recall beyong April 2023 as a result of substandard plastic parts used in headrest. If I had been notified by dealership when Jeep was serviced in 2023 it could have been fixed. All my recalls have previously been fixed. Trying to reach Customer Care at Jeep 877-426-5337 only to get complete jibberish and run-a-around. Certainly affect my next buying decision. Here-to -fore pleased with vehicle but this changes everything . I take safety VERY seriously. Inspection clearly indicates plastic parts ( sled bracket) failed.
Heated Seat element on passenger side burned through the upholstery and pant leg of passenger. Visible smoke in cabin and burn hole on seat and pant through to underpants.
Was driving down the road with my young son in the back seat and all of a sudden the head rest came flying forward and smacked the back of my head hard enough for me to swerve and almost get into an accident. After further inspection looking at the headrest once I got home I noticed that a pin is mounted onto some obviously brittle plastic that’s secured to a latch. Well i wasn’t in an accident and just out of nowhere this headrest flipped forward enough to rattle my head a bit.
The contact owns a 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked, the driver's side front headrest deployed, pushed forward, and struck the contact on the head. There were no reported injuries. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 123,500.

Driver side, headrest deployed without collision. Parked when airbag deployed.
On the way home from work the Active Head Restraint deployed without there being a rear end collison. The head restraint on driver's side hit my wife in the back of the head and sounded like a loud and startling gunshot-like sound. Since I was on the highway if I had not kept from jerking the steering wheel when the head restraint deployed i could have been in a head on collison. I was able to pull off the road to see what happened. First I called my dealer and they said it wasn't going to be covered under warranty and also call fiat-chrsyler and they said that it wasn't covered. No warning lamps, messages and no other symptoms shown prior to the failure. The dealer did acknowledge verbally that they had had 3 or more other cases. Currently it is at the dealer being repaired and i will ask them to give me the old head restraint.
4 days ago, while backing out of a parking spot, the passenger Active Head Restraint (AHR) deployed and struck my girlfriend in the head. There was no interaction with another vehicle and there was no accident. The AHR simply deployed on its own and struck my girlfriend in the head. I have not reset the AHR and left it as is. Please let me know what my next step should be. Thank you [XXX] [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The active headrest popped open without an accident and can't be reset due to broken internal tabs. Very dangerous if it happens while driving. It's like getting punched in the back of the head by a rock-em sock-em robot.
The active head restraints (AHR) deployed without any collision. I was driving on the interstate when this happened. My neck and shoulders have been sore now for 3 weeks. I went to the dealership and they said I would have to pay for this out of pocket. Chrysler should be paying for these since it is a known fault of small plastic parts that were designed too small to hold the tension of the active headrest assembly.
The Active Head Restraint (AHR) deployed on it own due to failed plastic internal parts on the passenger headrest. This is a known issue and has been for years. Jeep should correct this issue for all affected vehicles. I fear that the driver headrest will also fail and could potentially lead to a crash. This needs to be addressed.
Passenger headrest separated -- turns out it is called "Active Head Restraint" -- I did not know it was even there! The vehicle was not involved in an accident or rear ended (as I understand activates this). Nobody was injured and in fact nobody was in the vehicle when it went off. This happened a few months ago and thought it was just a broken headrest and I would have to fix it. Upon investigating the headrest last week is when I discovered this has been an issue for a long time. I found a "Warranty Bulletin" put out by Mopar BUT it was not issued to owners of the vehicle. I called the Jeep dealer on 3/2/23 and found out that my vehicle went out of the "Warranty Bulletin" time period just last month. I missed the repair because I was not notified of the issue from Jeep / Mopar! After reading of other individuals occurrences and injuries I have disconnected the "AHR" from the driver seat because of the possibility of it activating when my daughter is driving the vehicle and causing her to loose control of the vehicle. This item failing is more dangerous to drivers & passengers than other items which have been recalled by the NHTSA because this can cause an accident with death potential vs like a leaking fuel line that would cause a fire and loss of the vehicle but most likely not a death because the person would be able to exit the vehicle.
My driver's-side headrest/"airbag" deployed without a collision. I was wiping down my drivers seat after getting the seat dirty and when I wiped over the headrest it popped against my hand and I heard a tinkling noise of something bouncing around inside my vehicle. Further inspection showed that my headrest had popped out like it had deployed in a crash, etc. I was parked in my driveway and was not pushing hard on the headrest. I looked inside the headrest, and also googled this incident, and there are plastic clips inside the headrest that hold it in place. Those plastic clips wore out and broke off, causing the headrest restraint to deploy. I googled this situation and discovered that other people experienced this same thing as well - I got lucky because I wasn't driving when it happened!! But also, after further research, I found out that this is a thing that is happening and nobody is doing a recall about it. It will cost $600+ to get a new headrest inserted BUT there's no guarantee that my next one won't do the same exact thing! I haven't spent the money to get it fixed yet, because of that, but I have to have my seat and lumbar support adjusted ridiculously so that I can ride comfortably without my neck sticking out like a turtle.
The driver's seat active head restraint spontaneously deployed. There was no collision of any kind. This occurred while vehicle was stopped at a traffic light. The driver (who is not the individual filing this report) suffered a sore neck as a result. At time of deployment, the driver's head was inclined forward and tilted down. Otherwise the injury might have been much worse. This incident could have been exceptionally dangerous if the deployment happened while vehicle was moving. As of today (June 2, 2022), the vehicle has not been inspected by dealership. The first available appointment for repair is June 8, 2022. No warning or other indication given prior to spontaneous deployment. The part is available for inspection by NHTSA, at least until it is taken to dealership. I have uploaded pictures of part.
I was driving down a residential road, going about 30 mph. I went over a very small bump. My driver's side seat headrest exploded open and hit me in the back of the head. It scared me so much I swerved my car. Luckily it was a quiet street and I was going slow or I would have had an accident. I have a medical condition called fibromyalgia so this triggered severe headaches and fatigue for about a week. Luckily no serious injuries. I took it to a Jeep dealership and they said it's covered under the extended warranty and will be repaired for free. But what about a recall to avoid this dangerous safety issue in the first place? What about the passenger seat that is also now waiting to pop open and injure someone?
Drivers side headrest popped open without any collision or contact. It looks like a plastic latch that holds the headrest & airbag in place broke spontaneously.
The passenger side front seat active headrest disengaged while the vehicle was not in motion. My son was hit in the head but not seriously injured. The car has not been inspected by a dealer. I'm reporting this incident because a dealer will charge a fee to assess the failure and my online research has identified many similar failures without Chrysler accepting responsibility for the defect.
While driving the vehicle under normal weather conditions and normal road conditions, the driver's headrest exploded forward.
On July 15, 2021, I was driving my vehicle 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee in my town. My daughter was sitting in the front seat of the vehicle. As I was driving, the passenger headrest deployed unexpectedly for no reason. I heard a loud pop and then my daughter scream as the headrest hit her in the back of the head. She was not injured. I have no idea why this occurred. I went home and researched this online and discovered several articles in which similar incidents have occurred with other people in similar vehicles. I contacted the dealership to see if they were any recalls for this particular issue and I was told no. Also, the representative from the dealership told me they had talked with a supervisor and did not know what I was talking about.
The contact owns a 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated while parking the vehicle, the headrest independently exploded. The contact sustained a sore neck but did not require any medical attention. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the local dealer nor an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 121,000.

THE PASSENGER SEAT HEATER LIGHT KEEPS TURNING OFF AFTER PUSHING THE BUTTON. I CHECKED UNDER THE SEAT AND ALL WIRES SEEM FINE. TURN THE CAR BACK ON AN IT WORKS FOR A LITTLE BIT THEN DOES IT AGAIN. SOMETHING ODD IS GOING ON WITH IT BECAUSE THE AC SEAT WORKS STILL. THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS CAUSE A VERY LOUD ANNOYING HUM WHEN GOING 60 OR FASTER AN ITS VERY ANNOYING.

WHILE DRIVING THE PASSENGER ACTIVE HEAD RESTRAINT DEPLOYED DUE TO FAILURE OF THE PLASTIC RETAINERS STRIKING MY WIFE IN THE BACK OF HER HEAD. THANKFULLY SHE WAS NOT INJURED.BUT IT STARTLED US NOT KNOWING WHAT HAPPENED UNTIL WE WERE ABLE TO PULL OVER AND CHECK. THIS CLEARLY COULD HAVE CAUSED AN INJURY OR ACCIDENT AND THESE DEFECTIVE HEADRESTS SHOULD BE RECALLED AND REPLACED IMMEDIATLY.

WHILE CAR WAS BEING SWEPT OUT AT CAR WASH, DRIVERS SIDE HEADREST DEPLOYED FOR NO APPARENT REASON. A PART OF THE HEADREST BROKE RELEASING IT.

WHILE IN PARK, THE DRIVER HEADREST DEPLOYED INTO THE BACK OF MY HEAD. NO COLLISION TOOK PLACE, IT RANDOMLY DEPLOYED. IT WILL NOT RESET AS IT SEEMS A PLASTIC BRACKET BROKE INSIDE. NO RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE BUT WHEN RESEARCHING THE PROBLEM, IT SEEMS TO HAVE AFFECTED A LARGE GROUP OF 2011-2018 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE OWNERS.
Mileage: 122,000
MY 2013 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE OVERLAND 4X2 'ACTIVE HEAD RESTRAINT' (AHR) HEADRESTS MANUFACTURED BY GRAMMER AG SUFFER FROM A DEFECT. FCA US AND GRAMMER AG'S ACTIVE HEAD RESTRAINT IS MEANT TO SPRING FORWARD IN THE EVENT OF A REAR-END COLLISION TO CATCH A VEHICLE OCCUPANT'S HEAD TO PREVENT WHIPLASH, THE FEATURE HAS DEPLOYED WITHOUT WARNING OR EXTERNAL FORCE FROM A COLLISION, AND FORCEFULLY STRUCK THE BACK OF MY PASSENGER'S (WIFE) HEAD WHILE WE WERE IN MOTION. THE FORCE OF THE IMPACT TO THE BACK OF MY VEHICLE PASSENGER'S (WIFE) HEAD AND WITHOUT WARNING OR CAUSE WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN OPERATION. SHE WAS INITIALLY STARTLED AND WE DID NOT KNOW WHAT HAD HAPPENED. THEN WE DISCOVERED THE BROKEN HEADREST. LATER, MY WIFE EXPERIENCED A HEADACHE AND NECK DISCOMFORT OVER SEVERAL DAYS. I HAVE SEEN SEVERAL LAWSUIT DOCUMENTS ONLINE FILED BY OTHER JEEP OWNERS WHO STATE THE CAUSE OF THE DEFECT AS THE FAILURE OF A 'CHEAP PLASTIC COMPONENT' INSIDE THE DEFENDANTS' AHR. SPECIFICALLY, THE FEATURE CONTAINS A PLASTIC BRACKET THAT ACTS AS THE TRIGGERING MECHANISM AND HOLDS THE FEATURE'S SPRING-LOADED RELEASE IN PLACE UNTIL A SENSOR SIGNALS THAT THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN HIT IN ITS REAR, THE CASE EXPLAINS. AS A 'COST-SAVING MEASURE,' THE PLAINTIFFS SAY, CHRYSLER AND GRAMMER AG DESIGNED THE AHR BRACKET WITH 'AN INFERIOR AND INEXPENSIVE FORM OF PLASTIC' THAT CAN CRACK AND BREAK DOWN PREMATURELY DUE TO THE 75 POUNDS OF CONSTANT PRESSURE APPLIED BY THE AHR'S SPRINGS ONTO THE BRACKET. I MAY HAVE MISSED IT, BUT I HAVE ONLY SEEN A RECALL FOR 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE HEADRESTS. I WOULD LIKE THE PARTS ON THESE HEADRESTS REPLACED. NOT SURE IF THE SAME DEFECT ALSO EXISTS ON REAR PASSENGER SEAT HEADRESTS.

THE AIRBAG IN OUR HEADREST HAS BECOME DETACHED AND IS JUST HANGING NO ACCIDENTS.

DRIVER SEAT ACTIVE HEADREST HAS ACTIVATED AND BROKEN THE CLIPS THAT HOLD THE HEADREST IN THE RESET AND/OR READY POSITION. THE CAR WAS MOVING AT A NORMAL RATE OF SPEED AND NO COLLISION OR CONTACT WITH ANYTHING HAS OCCURRED. SIMPLY APPEARS TO BE A MALFUNCTION OF THE SEAT ACTIVE HEADREST CAUSED BY POOR ENGINEERING OR BEING CONSTRUCTED OF FAULTY MATERIALS WHICH HAVE CAUSED A FAILURE IN THE INTENDED USE OF THE ACTIVE SEAT HEADREST.
Mileage: 135,000
2013 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO PASSENGER HEADREST DEPLOYED WHILE CRUSING AT 65MPH ON SMOOTH, STRAIGHT DRY HIGHWAY. PASSENGER SEAT WAS VACANT AT THE TIME. UPON INSPECTION, IT WAS FOUND THAT THE PLASTIC HOUSING RETAINING THE METAL CLIP/RELEASE BAR HAD BROKEN.
Mileage: 97,985
WHILE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION, PASSENGER SIDE HEAD REST DEPLOYED UNPROVOKED AND WITHOUT WARNING, STRIKING THE PASSENGER IN THE BACK OF THE HEAD. THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT, NO SUDDEN STOP, JUST NORMAL DRIVING AT APPROX. 40 MPH. THE PLASTIC PIECES THAT HOLD THE HEADREST HAVE FAILED CAUSING A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS OR FATAL ACCIDENT. *TR

TODAY I WAS SITTING IN A PARKING LOT WHEN MY HEAD WAS JERKED FORWARD AFTER THE HEADREST WAS DEPLOYED WHILE STATIONARY. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP IN ST. GEORGE, UT AND THEY INSTRUCTED ME TO CONTACT CHRYSLER TO FILE A CLAIM. I DID CALL THEM TODAY AND WAS GIVEN A CLAIM NUMBER. NOW I WAIT WHILE THE HEADREST SITS DEPLOYED IN MY JEEP. *TR

GOT INTO MY VEHICLE AND NOTICED THE PASSENGER HEADREST WAS POPPED OPEN. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN PARKED FOR DAYS SINCE WE ARE UNDER A STAY AT HOME ORDER DUE TO COVID-19 PANDEMIC. WE GOOGLED HOW TO POP IT BACK IN, BUT IT WOULDN'T ATTACH. NOTICED THE PLASTIC TAB WAS BROKEN. I'M JUST GRATEFUL NO ONE WAS SITTING IN THE SEAT WHEN IT HAPPENED. IT COULD HAVE SHOT THEIR HEAD FORWARD AND INJURED THEM. *TR

I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY WHEN THE PASSENGER HEADREST DEPLOYED OUT OF NOWHERE SMASHING INTO THE BACK OF MY FIANC'S HEAD. THERE WHERE NO OTHER VEHICLES AROUND ME AT THE TIME AND NO COLLISION OCCURRED.*DT CONSUMER STATED FIANCE HAD A SUFFERED A HEADACHE AND PERHAPS A MINOR CONCUSSION.*JB
Mileage: 95,000
THE HEADREST SAFETY FEATURE MALFUNCTIONED AND DEPLOYED INCORRECTLY. IT DEPLOYED DURING NORMAL USE OF THE VEHICLE AND NOT DURING AN ACCIDENT. THERE WAS NO IMPACT TO THE VEHICLE WHEN IT DEPLOYED, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT EVEN IN MOTION. THERE IS CLEARLY A MANUFACTURING DEFECT AND THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS PRODUCT. MY WIFE AND I ARE WORRIED ABOUT THE OTHER HEADREST DEPLOYING WHILE WE ARE DRIVING AND CONCERNED ABOUT OUR SAFETY. WE WERE IN TAMPA, FL WHEN THIS HAPPENED AND REPORTED THE INCIDENT TO CHRYSLER BUT THEY DIDN'T SEEM CONCERNED, DESPIT ACKNOWLEDGING THE DANGER THIS COULD CAUSE WHILE DRIVING.
Mileage: 105,000
THE HEADREST POPPED OPEN. I JUST CAME OUT ONE MORNING AND IT HAD SPLIT. THIS IS APPARENTLY A SAFETY DEVICE. SERVICE DEPARTMENT WAS NO HELP SAID HEADREST MUST BE REPLACED WILL COST ABOUT $1000. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL ITEM.

THE HEADREST ON MY JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE VIOLENTLY POPPED (EXPLODED) WHILE DRIVING WITHOUT CAUSE. WHEN THIS HAPPENED IT PRODUCED A LOUD STARTLING NOISE AND STRUCK MY DAUGHTERS HEAD. THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING STRAIGHT AT ABOUT 25 MPH ON A CITY STREET WHEN THIS HAPPENED. AN INTERNAL PLASTIC MECHANISM IN THE HEADREST APPEARS TO HAVE BROKEN AND NOW THE HEADREST IS PERMANENTLY IN THE POPPED POSITION.
Mileage: 145,000
RIGHT FRONT "ACTIVE" HEADREST, WHICH IS PART OF THE SUPPLEMENT RESTRAIN SYSTEM, FAILED AT 59,000 MILES FOR NO REASON. THE PLASTIC LATCH JUST BROKE; APPEARS TO BE TOO SMALL. CAR WAS NOT BEING DRIVEN AT THE TIME THE HEADREST FAILED. REPLACEMENT COST $900.
Mileage: 59,000
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE, THE PASSENGER HEADREST SAFETY DEVICE DEPLOYED. HAD SOMEONE BEEN SITTING IN THE SEAT, IT COULD HAVE CAUSED SERIOUS HEAD AND NECK INJURIES. THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT INVOLVED, IT APPEARS IT JUST FAILED DUE TO A DEFECT IN THE LOCKING MECHANISM. NOW WE ARE WORRIED ABOUT THE DRIVER HEADREST DEPLOYING WHILE WE ARE OPERATING THE JEEP AND IT CAUSING AN INJURY OR ACCIDENT.
Mileage: 83,159
ACTIVE HEAD REST DEPLOYED ON FRONT PASSENGER SIDE DUE TO FAILED PLASTIC TABS INSIDE THE HEADREST. WHEN IT DEPLOYS IT SHOOTS FORWARD AND CAN CAUSE SERIOUS HEAD INJURIES. THE DEPLOYMENT HAPPENED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. IT WAS A RANDOM DEPLOYMENT NOT CAUSED BY ANY IMPACT (THE DESIGN IS ACTUALLY TO DEPLOY WHEN THERE IS IMPACT) IN THIS CASE IT DEPLOYS DUE TO A DEFECT IN THE HOUSING OF THE PIN WHICH HOLDS THE HEADREST IN PLACE.
Mileage: 71,000
WHILE I WAS WIPING DOWN THE DRIVER SIDE ACTIVE-HEADREST IT DEPLOYED ON IT'S OWN AS IF THE VEHICLE WAS IN AN ACCIDENT. THE CAR WAS OFF AND PARKED ON MY DRIVEWAY WITH THE TRANSMISSION IN PARK, I WAS CLEANING THE INSIDE OF THE CAR WHEN IT HAPPENED. THE PART IN QUESTION IS THE DRIVER SIDE ACTIVE HEAD-REST. I WAS TOLD BY THE TECHNICIAN AT THE DEALERSHIP THAT HE HAD SEEN 5 OF THESE AND IT HAPPENED BECAUSE THE PLASTIC CLIP THAT HOLDS THE HEADREST IN PLACE HAD DETERIORATED AND BROKE. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT THERE ARE NO RECALLS FOR THIS AND TO CALL FCA TO FILE A CLAIM TO SEE IF THEY WOULD COVER THE COST OF THE REPAIR WHICH I DID. FCA TOLD ME IF I FIXED IT BEFORE THEY LOOK AT IT THEY WON'T PAY FOR THE REPAIR. FCA INFORMED ME THAT SOMEONE WOULD CALL ME TO SET UP A TIME AND LOCATION TO LOOK AT MY CAR IN 2 TO 4 WEEKS. IN THE MEANTIME THEY SAID TO DRIVE IT AS IS WITH NO CONCERN FOR MY SAFETY. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AND IF IT HAD HAPPENED WHILE I WAS DRIVING SOMEONE COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED.
Mileage: 37,350
DRIVER SIDE HEADREST (AHR SYSTEM) HAS DEPLOYED AND IS BROKEN. IT APPEARS THE PLASTIC CLAMPS THAT HOLD THE HEADREST IN PLACE ARE BRITTLE WHICH CAUSED THE FAILURE .

WHILE MY JEEP WAS PARKED, ENGINE OFF, IN MY DRIVEWAY (FLAT SURFACE), MY 7 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WENT TO GET OUT OF THE BACK SEAT. SHE TOUCHED ON TO THE METAL POLE FRAME OF THE DRIVERS HEADREST WITH HER HAND TO ASSIST HER IN GETTING OUT OF THE CAR, THE HEADREST EXPLODED AND HIT HER IN THE SIDE OF THE HEAD. IT HIT HER HARD ENOUGH FOR HER TO BE STUNNED AND TO SAY SHE SAW STARS. THERE ARE DOZENS OF COMPLAINTS ONLINE ABOUT THIS HAPPENING YET NO RECALL. CHRYSLER HAS HAD TO RECALL THESE SO CALLED ACTIVE HEADRESTS BEFORE BUT MY JEEP WAS NOT INCLUDED. THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL AND FIX AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
Mileage: 28,000
WE WERE DRIVING DOWN A COUNTRY ROAD AT ROUGHLY 20MPH, MY WIFE WAS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT WHEN OUT OF NOWHERE THE HEAD REST EXPLODED AND INJURED MY WIFE IN THE BACK OF THE HEAD WITH SOME SERIOUS FORCE. AFTER PULLING OVER AND INSPECTING THE ISSUE I NOTICED THE HEAD REST'S PLASTIC BRACKET HOLDING IT ON HAD FAILED AND BROKE IN HALF. I BELIEVE THIS IS A FEATURE FOR A REAR END COLLISION BUT WE HAVE NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT IN THIS VEHICLE, ESPECIALLY NOT WHEN THE HEAD REST EXPLODED.
Mileage: 80,500
THE PLASTIC RETAINING BRACKETS IN THE HEADREST'S ACTIVE RESTRAINT SYSTEM FAILED WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, CAUSING THE HEADREST TO FLY INTO THE BACK OF MY HEAD. THIS CAUSED SOME TEMPORARY DISORIENTATION AND I THOUGHT SOMEONE HAD REAR-ENDED ME. LUCKILY I DID NOT LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND CONTINUED ON MY WAY.
Mileage: 41,000
PASSENGER HEADREST DISENGAGED WHILE BEING DRIVEN ON CITY STREET UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS.
Mileage: 35,278
THE ACTIVE HEADREST RESTRAINT INSIDE THE DRIVER'S SEAT DEPLOYED DUE TO PLASTIC CLIPS INSIDE BREAKING FOR NO REASON. DEPLOYED WHILE DRIVING UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS, HIT DRIVER IN THE BACK OF THE HEAD, STARTLING DRIVER AND NEARLY CAUSING ACCIDENT. THIS IS A WELL-KNOWN ISSUE, DOCUMENTED BY HUNDREDS OF OTHER OWNERS OF GRAND CHEROKEE, YET CHRYSLER/JEEP HAS DONE NOTHING TO REMEDY THIS OR RECALL THE FAULTY PRODUCT. HAVING THE DEPLOYED HEADREST MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE, AND THERE IS NO WAY TO "RESET" IT, SINCE THE INTERNAL PLASTIC PIECES ARE BROKEN. THIS IS AN ON-GOING SAFETY ISSUE, AS PART OF THE VEHICLE'S SAFETY SYSTEM NOW DOES NOT FUNCTION. ALSO, I AM WORRIED THAT THE OTHER SEAT'S RESTRAINT WILL DEPLOY AT ANY TIME.
Mileage: 6,480
DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD WITH NO OTHER ISSUES WHEN PASSENGER'S FRONT HEADREST RESTRAINT SYSTEM DEPLOYED ON PASSENGERS HEAD. CAR HAS ONLY 24000 MILES ON IT, ALWAYS GARAGED, NEVER IN A COLLISION. RESTRAINT SYSTEM DEPLOYED FOR ABSOLUTELY NO REASON ON THE PASSENGER IN THE SEAT. JEEP TAKING NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE ISSUE. VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION AT ABOUT 35 MPH ON A CITY STREET, JUST DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, GOOD ROADWAY CONDITION DURING SUNNY WEATHER. TIME/DATE OF INCIDENT WAS 6-10-18 AT 930 AM.*DT*JB

AFTER SHUTTING OFF AND EXITING THE VEHICLE I NOTICED THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT HEAD REST LOOKED CROOKED. I GOT IN THE BACK SEAT TO TAKE A CLOSER LOOK AND THE HEAD REST SUDDENLY DEPLOYED WITHOUT ME TOUCHING IT. THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF AND PARKED.

I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND SUDDENLY I WAS HIT IN THE BACK OF THE HEAD. AT FIRST I THOUGHT I WAS HIT BY ANOTHER CAR BUT I LOOKED AROUND AND THERE WAS NO CARS AROUND. I PULLED OVER AND LOOKED AT MY HEADREST AND IT EXPLODED AND HIT ME IN THE HEAD. I CALLED AND BROUGHT MY CAR IN TO JEEP WHO SAID IT WAS THE ACTIVE HEAD RESTRAINT AND IT IS SET TO GO OFF DURING AN ACCIDENT. I TOLD THEM I WAS NOT IN ANY ACCIDENT. I THEN CALLED JEEP DIRECTLY WHO TOLD ME THEY WOULD INVESTIGATE THE ISSUE AND THAT I SHOULD LEAVE MY CAR AT JEEP. THAT WAS 3 WEEK AGO. ALL OF MY ATTEMPT TO CONTACT JEEP TO HAVE THEM RECTIFY THE ISSUE AND REPLACE MY HEADREST HAVE GONE NO WHERE. I HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY CALL BACKS AND EVERY TIME I CALL THEM THEY TELL ME THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO EXCEPT WAIT UNTIL I AM CONTACTED BY JEEP. THIS IS A BIG SAFETY ISSUE AS I COULD HAVE RUN OFF THE ROAD AN CRASHED.

WHILE DRIVING APROX. 40 MPH ON A REGULAR CITY STREET IN MY 2013" JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE, MY PASSENGER SEAT HEAD REST EJECTED AND THE SPRING ACTION LUNGED IT FORWARD CAUSING MY ENTIRE SEATS AIR BAG SYSTEM TO MALFUNCTION. I WAS INFORMED AT THE DEALERSHIP THAT IT WAS A MALFUNCTION, MY ONLY OPTION WAS TO PAY THOUSANDS TO REPLACE IT. ALSO THAT THE SEAT WILL NEVER GO BACK TO ITS ORIGINAL POSITION AND THE INNARDS WILL ALWAYS SHOW UNLESS I PAY TO FIX IT. I WAS SIMPLY DRIVING WITH MY CHILDREN, NOTHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY HAPPENED. IT JUST WENT OFF ALMOST CAUSING ME TO CRASH BECAUSE OF THE VERY LOUD POP CAUSING ME TO REACT. I WAS TOLD THAT MY DRIVERS SEAT HAS THE SAME SYSTEM AND BASICALLY BE CAUTIONS WHILE DRIVING. I INFORMED JEEP CORP. THEY SENT A PRIVATE CORPORATE INVESTIGATOR. I WAS INFORMED VIA FORMAL LETTER THAT THEY WILL NOT BE FIXING THE PROBLEM. THIS IS THE 4TH. DANGEROUS MALFUNCTION MY VEHICLE HAS HAD. #TIMES PREVIOUSLY IT WAS A NATION WIDE RECALL THAT WAS TAKEN CARE OF. I FEAR I WILL BE DRIVING WITH MY CHILDREN ON THE FREEWAY WHEN THE DRIVERS SEAT MALFUNCTIONS AND WE WILL CRASH AS A RESULT OF THIS RANDOM MALFUNCTION. IF I CRASH NOT ONLY IS MINE AND MY FAMILIES LIVES IN DANGER BUT ALSO ALL OF THOSE IN THE VEHICLES AROUND ME.
MY JEEP WAS REAR ENDED AT 50 MPH WHILE AT A STANDSTILL. I WAS READY TO TURN LEFT IN IN THE LEFT LANE. VEHICLE CAME UP BEHIND ME IN THE WRONG LANE AND DID NOT SLOW AND HIT ME FULL SPEED. .
