Dash damage causing visibility issues. The dash in this vehicle and many other Jeeps with a leather dash, the leather has separated from the dash body and is causing visibility issues when driving. My vehicle is stored in garage or with a sunshade on at all times, but the leather dash has still separated, this issue has been recalled in other years and needs to be address in 2017 Jeeps as well. Repairs of this issue are unaffordable due to the labor that is required to repair. GM should address this problem with GM vehicle owners.
System said car will shut off soon. All system lights started blinking and the car turned off. Car would not restart and would not go into neutral.
My husband was driving down a state road when the car shut down. He started the suv back on & we where fine. 2nd time I was driving on the interstate [XXX] ) when the car shut off & the dashboard displayed "shift to park". I kept control of the car put the emergency lights on & got of the way. Waited a few minutes & the SUV started back took me home the next day I took it to the dealership they replaced the transmission. I got the car back Friday [XXX] drove it home & on Tuesday [XXX] put 93% gas in the car was on my way back on [XXX] . Stopped at a light with my grandson in the car & the car started to shake a little shut off again the dash indicated "shift to park" I turned the car on & off a few times finally after about 5 mins it started & I was on to my destination. At my destination I turned the car on 3 times. Started with out a problem. Got on the road headed back home. At the same spot, the car shut down again for the 3rd time. Dash again stating I need to "shift to park". This is the very dangerous. I had the car towed to the Jeep dealership & there it is waiting on a diagnosis as to what is wrong with my Beautiful 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Please find a way to fix this issue. Sun Roof shattered
The front passenger seat Active Head Restraint activated while driving on a smooth, rural road, with no traffic, and no impact with anything. My wife was in the passenger seat and was forcefully hit when the headrest deployed. There were no warning lights and no issues which would have warned us of this deployment. The vehicle has been maintained by the dealership since new. I have an appointment with the dealership for the warranty repair. on June 12 2025.
Pass. side active head restraint deployed unexpectedly. Dealer replaced part under “warranty extension x88”. When I contacted Jeep manufacturer: 1-800-334-9200, I was told the manufacturer will NOT replace the driver side head restraint until it self deployed! An accident waiting to happen! My wife and I travel a lot, pulling a travel trailer, so I now have a fear that this active head restraint will also self-deploy. SHAME on the manufacturer. I won’t be considered an “acceptable risk”. Please help me convince the manufacturer to stand by their warranty. Thank you.
Passenger side active headrest activated for no apparent reason. There was no warning for this. When I contacted Jeep dealer I was told that they were “aware” of this, but it wasn’t a recall item. 🥴
The power lift gate automatically open, and will not close with the key fob, or any of the buttons inside the vehicle.
Not sure what component caused the vehicle to burst into flames. It is no longer (to the best of my knowledge) available for inspection (unless still at tow yard). The Jeep burned, caught another vehicle in the driveway on fire, as well as fence separating neighbor's house, and spread to structure (my house). Vehicle was inspected by ins. reps/others. It was taped off as battery was still live. Fire report states vehicle fire. Car was parked in driveway and was not driven for two days. No prior warnings or recalls.
Instrument cluster went completely dark. It flickered a few times while driving, then went completely dark.
Jeep randomly started loosing power and shutting down while on/driving. It causes the entire vehicle to freeze/seeze up. Hard to turn the wheel. Can't put in park. Starts glitching and lights/beeping going on and off repeatedly. Have to jump start and then it does the exact same thing and dies within minutes.
LEAK IN VALVE COVER GASKET, oil cooler leak
On the Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit there is a known defect on the leather dash that comes delaminated from the dash itself. The leather starts to lift, wrinkle, bubble, becomes loose and comes separated from the dash. This impares vision and in an accident could become a safety hazard as you now have a very large piece of leather which comes flying at the driver and passenger.
Let me preface this by saying, I have spent THOUSANDS of dollars trying to get this fixed. Changed Batteries. Changed Fuel Pump. Changed Sensors. Made sure everything is tight/plugged in properly. It's gone to Jeep and other shops but no one has been able to find or fix the issue. Probably about two years ago this started. I was driving to work as normal and stopped at a red light. When I tried to accelerate, the car kind of jerked a little like it didn't want to go and then chugged on. Leaving work the same day, it did the same thing, but instead of just jerking, the car completely stopped. The dash displayed a notification that said: "Shift to Park". All of the electricity was on (lights, air, dash) but the car somehow switched itself directly into neutral even though I was in drive. Brought it to the shop, and they changed some sensors. A few months later, the same thing happened while in heavy morning traffic. I had to hurriedly put on my hazards because my car was NOT able to move. Tried starting it up after the "Shift to Park" notification displayed and it wouldn't start at all. I turned it off completely, waited a few minutes, tried to turn it on again, missed twice, and on the third try it FINALLY came back on. Every day I drive my car now, I make sure to turn off the Auto-Start/Stop button because this was the one time this happened while it was still on. Brought it to the shop - they had another, TOTALLY DIFFERENT DIAGNOSIS. More recently, I hadn't had a problem in a few months - but leaving work in 4 pm traffic the car felt like it was jerking every time I had to slow down (which was every few minutes since it was traffic time). I finally made it to the on-ramp of the GNO to cross the river and while going around the roundabout, it happened YET AGAIN. It's dangerous. I'm surprised this hasn't led to severe accidents, injuries, or even deaths yet. It's absolutely ridiculous. There are thousands of forums online with people having the same issues. HELP!

Faulty transmission that breaks before 90K miles
There is a very serious issue with the mechanical part of these car models that end up having issues with the service shifter. there needs to be a complete recall due to it being a worldwide issue.
I have replaced the water pump three times costing me close to $1000.00. No warning light has came on only the smell when it is leaking that my fiancé recognizes. So in this case do I have to wait until it starts to overheat and I am stranded on the side of the road? Why am I replacing an obvious faulty part? I also know that I am not the only jeep owner within the year of mine that has had this problem that Jeep doesn’t recognize? If needed I can provide copies of my receipts and dealership paperwork. Also why are the new water pumps protected with a warranty? Each water pump I had installed could have defects.
-Moon Roof glass exploded with no known cause while i was driving on the highway there were no cars in front of me, its available for inspection while waiting on the repairs. -explosion was loud and pieces of glass were trapped in the moon roof cloth, Luckily. (IF it was a hotter day out and the moon roof was opened all that glass would've exploded and could've injured the driver or even lead to the driver to cause an accident. -not that i have heard of while getting this repaired. -not yet, i'm working on getting a claim done. -no warning that the moonroof glass was going to explode
The exhaust manifold bolts cracked on my jeep Grand Cherokee hemi 5.7L which has caused a "tick" sound and my 7yr old can smell gas while inside the vehicle. We have taken to dealerships who refuses to fix under warranty. I called Dodge jeep of Tomball and They say it's not covered emissions. They also say it's common issue with the Hemi's. The problem is only getting worst and causes my son to have headaches. The problem is noticed on startup and acceleration.
I was parked and my car was on and my gas gauge was less the halfway (dashboard indicated about 70 miles left) then my steering wheel started shaking so I turned off the car. I tried restarting the car but it wouldn’t turn on. I got my jumper cables out because I thought the battery had died but it wouldn’t turn on after multiple attempts. I ran to the nearest gas station and got some gas, filled my tank up and after a few attempts my car finally turned back on. Ever since then, my fuel gauge has been wrong. I don’t know if it’s a sensor issue or fuel tank issue but I can’t trust my dashboard or fuel gauge to know how much gas I have. When I fill up my tank to the fullest the most it’ll show me is 300 miles on the dashboard although before it used to be close to 400 miles. Although I wouldn’t label this issue as a direct safety hazard, it is extremely inconvenient trying to guess when I need to fill up gas since the fuel light doesn’t come on anymore. To avoid this issue I’ve gotten in the habit of filling up my tank before levels reach under 100 miles. I have also read many complaints from others having similar issues.
Jeep serviced for small evap leak. The next day after getting my jeep back from dealer, when I started my grand Cherokee trailhawk, it felt like I had gotten kicked in the rear end. The SERV 4WD light comes on, FCW, stability control, RCW error lights come on. ACC not available. Took jeep to dealer and had PCM cleared as code was coming up as inactive. Was told to drive it as usual and if error lights came back on to get it to dealer asap to get codes. After dealer checked for error codes, codes for transfer case problem popped up. The dealer stated they can’t tell what’s wrong until they diagnosis it. Appointment scheduled for diagnosis at end of July as mechanic is on vacation. Asked if jeep was drivable to which I got mixed answers and told to be careful that jeep may slip into 4WD and not drive right. Dealer stated Jeep is aware of problem but no recall at this point and stated they just wished Jeep would recall and fix the problem . The dealer stated they have encountered this issue in jeeps more than any other vehicle.
Driving to work down the highway and the sun (moon) roof exploded.
The power life gate is not working properly , has knocked me in the head. I read that is very common. It stopped working a few months after purchasing (used). I have not had repaired, thought it might be a recall since it was reported a common problem.
Hello! its been 2 years since i bought my 2017 grand cherokee laredo, and I am reporting HUDSON CYRSLER RAM IN JERSEY CITY for selling car with mileage discrepancies, I bought and paid for the mileage that i did not use, in the mile showing in contract that i paid is 36,400 miles , the mileages of the car they give it to me is 41,900miles. The miles showing the stickers /pricelist when they selling is different mileages, and when i sign i noticed that this not match to the contract snd the car that they gave me, the car that i paid is with 36,400miles not for 40kmeage, this is odo meter fraud miles decrepamcy
When driving the vehicle it's like the transmission is slipping through the first few gears then all of a sudden it takes off. if you try to accelerate it just winds up and then bang it takes off. when coming to a stop it downshifts hard. When driving around a corner you slow down your foot off the pedal, then when you get through the corner you go to accelerate again and it has a dead spot, no power, it's like it died and you have nothing then again it takes right off. Really dangerous, I first thought the car was dead, with no power but then it takes off like a rocket. It acts worse when the start-stop button is depressed so that the engine stops at red lights or when the vehicle comes to a stop. If you turn that off the vehicle seems to run a little better but still cuts out. Almost like someone flicking a light switch off and on with the power of the vehicle. The dealership says they are booked out until March 25th to even take a look at it.
I was driving this vehicle on a sunny 38 degree day on the highway when my front sunroof exploded. The glass was broken upwards, no rock or debris hit the glass. It spontaneously shattered.
The UConnect touch screen in my vehicle is “delaminating” causing phantom touches to the touch screen. This is an extreme safety hazard due to it causing distractions to the driver when attempting to use the touch screen/radio/etc for its intended purpose. The problem has not been reproduced or confirmed by Jeep to my knowledge. The component has not been inspected. There were no warning signs.
The Dashboard of the car is rising and waving due to the heat of the Sun in Louisiana. This is reflecting a shean of direct/indirect sunlight off the wrinkles into the drivers eyes. It super distracting, a safety concern and a fault in the Adhesion used in the manufacturing process! HELP!! It needs to be fixed at the manufacturers level!!
Passenger side headrest deployed while traveling at 30 miles per hour down the road. No collison or incidents occurred at the time the headrest deployed.
Battery vent tube disconnected from the battery causing toxic gas to leak into the passenger compartment. Driver had been experiencing worsening feeling of suffocation for several months prior to discovery of the issue, which was found when replacing the original battery. Vent tube was reconnected and symptoms resolved completely within 72 hours. Approximately 6 weeks later, driver began experiencing the same symptoms, checked the battery vent tube and found that it was once again disconnected. Retaining feature does not appear sufficiently to retain the vent tube throughout vehicle life. Vehicle has less than 40,000 miles.
Midway through a 2.5hr. drive, I approached a stop sign to make a right hand turn. When I came to a stop to check for oncoming traffic, the Jeep completely shut off on me. The cluster panel displayed “Shift to P to start” and the cluster panel was flashing all the warning lights. (vehicle was still in the ON position) I had then shifted the vehicle to Park, shut off the ignition and then restarted the Jeep. A very scary situation to happen during a normal drive. I have done some browsing and see that I’m not the only one who has encountered this problem. Due to the extreme safety issues at hand, I truly believe Chrysler should be investigating this underlying issue. (I’ve read some people have experienced this while driving on the main road with traffic. I’ve also read that one person experienced this and it ended in a vehicle accident.) This is a serious issue.

I AM VERY FORTUNATE THAT NOBODY ELSE WAS INJURED BECAUSE MY JEEP SPED ACROSS THE CHURCH PARKING LOT, RAN OVER 3 TELEPHONE POLE (LYING ON THE GROUND AT THE EDGE OF THE PARKING LOT) AND CRASHED INTO THE FENCING OF MY CHURCH'S SOFTBALL FIELD. I PUSHED THE IGNITION BUTTON AND THE ENGINE WOULD NOT TURN OFF. I PUSHED THE BREAKS AND IT WOULD NOT STOP! EVENTUALLY THE JEEP WAS STOPPED BY THE FENCE WHILE ALL 4 WHEELS CONTINUED SPINNING OUT OF CONTROL. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND HOW IT FINALLY SHUT OFF AS EVERYTHING I TRIED HAD NO EFFECT! I I WAS DRIVING IN MY MOMS 2017 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE AND IN MOTION ON A CITY STREET AND I WAS NOT AWARE OF THE SEAT SETTING BUTTON ON THE DRIVERS SIDE PANEL DOOR ITS POSITIONED IN A TERRIBLE PLACE FOR PEOPLE WITH LONGER LEGS, I HAD DROPPED A MILK SHAKE AFTER PICKING IT UP OUT OF THE CUP HOLDER AND IT SLIPPED OUT OF MY HAND AND BETWEEN MY LEGS ROLLING BEHIND THE BRAKE, IT HAD A LID ON IT SO I WASN'T WORRIED ABOUT IT SPILLING OR MAKING A MESS. I JUST CASULLY TRIED TO PICK IT UP BY SPRESDING MY LEGS AND REACHING DOWN TO PICK IT UP WHILE KEEPING MY EYES ON THE ROAD. BUT, THAT ENDED UP BEING THE WRONG THING TO DO ,MY KNEE HIT THE S BUTTON FOR THE DRIVERS 1 AND 2 MEMORY. THE SEAT STARTED GOING FORWARD AND I COULDN'T STOP IT. I HAD MY LEGS SPREAD TO PICK UP THE SHAKE I HAD NO TIME TO DO ANYTHING WITH THEM THE NEXT THING I KNEW I WAS PINNED BETWEEN THE STEERING WHEEL AND THE CAR SEAT MY LKNEES AND LEGS WERE SCRUNCHED. THE TECH BROUGHT THE CAR OUT AFTER SERVICE AND WHEN I STARTED IT, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. I NOTIFIED THE TECH AND THEN HE COULD NOT GET THE JEEP OUT OF PARK. THEY PUT IT IN NEUTRAL TO PUSH IT BACK INTO GARAGE. CHECKED CARGURUS AND MANY, MANY COMPLAINTS FILED ABOUT THIS SAME ISSUE. MY 2015 JEEP HAD A SHIFTER RECALL. MAYBE STILL AN ISSUE JEEP????

MY AC EVAPORATOR CORE FAILED IN MY JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE WHICH IS ONLY THREE YEARS OLD. THE CORE IS UNDER THE DASH BOARD AND USES THE R-1234YF FREON WHICH IS A DANGEROUS GAS THAT LEAK OUT IN MY CABIN OF MY SUV. THE EVAPORATOR CORE SHOULD BE REDESIGNED NOT TO FAIL AND LEAK THE DANGEROUS GAS IN MY VEHICLE. THE R-1234YF FREON GAS IS EXPENSIVE AND THE EVAPORATOR CORE IS DESIGNED TO FAIL.. MOST CARS EVAPORATOR CORE WILL LAST ON CARS WAY OVER 6 YEARS OR MORE. THIS IS GAS LEAKING IS A SAFETY HAZARD TO THE DRIVER AND THE EVAPORATOR CORE SHOULD BE RECALLED DO TO ITS DEFECTIVENESS. I'M WAITING FOR THE DEALERSHIP TO ORDER AND REPLACE THE EVAPORATOR CORE AND RELOAD THE FREON AT $1900.00 COST. THIS SHOULD BE ON THE RECALL LIST MAY PEOPLE CAN BE EFFECTED ON THIS PLUS THIS FREON CAN EXPLODE IF THE CAR IS IN A ACCIDENT.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALSO NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND A CLAIM WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN PLACED UNDER NHTSA RECALL NUMBER18V332000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL) AND HAD YET TO BE REPAIRED; THE CONTACT NEVER RECEIVED A NOTIFICATION REGARDING THE RECALL. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT BUT IT WAS CONSTANTLY DINGING WITH THE SERVICE SHIFTER ERRED.WHEN I STOPPED I COULD NOT MOVE THE SHIFTER. I HAD TO STOP KILL THE ENGINE AND WAIT SEVERAL MINUTES BEFORE THE ERROR CLEARED AND I WAS ABLE TO SHIFT THE VEHICLE. I TOOK IT TO OUR JEEP DEALER TO BE REPAIRED. HE REPLACED THE SHIFTER HARNESS. I HAVE READ MANY JEEP OWNERS HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM AND HAVE HAD THE SHIFTER REPLACED ONLY TO HAVE IT OCCUR AGAIN. IT COST OVER $500 TO REPLACE.

WAS ALSO TOLD THAT IF VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER DURING THE INCIDENT, THAT THE DATA RECORDER WOULD NOT REFLECT THOSE CONDITIONS. THE COMPANY WILL NOT REPLACE, REPAIR, OR BUY BACK WITHOUT A DIAGNOSIS. HUGE SAFETY CONCERN FOR NOT ONLY THE PASSENGERS AND DRIVER, BUT ALSO OTHERS ON THE ROAD. IF ON A BUSY STREET IT SHUTS OFF WITH NO LIGHTS, THERE WILL BE GREATER RISK OF CAUSING AN ACCIDENT AT SPEED. THE "SERVICE ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL" MESSAGE CAME ON DURING THE WEEK TWICE BUT THEN IT NEVER CAME UP AGAIN, ON THIS DAY THE MESSAGE DID NOT SHOW UP AT ALL AND WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE PULLED TOWARDS THE DRIVER SIDE (LEFT) AND CRASHED INTO THE SECURITY SECURITY FENCE, AFTER THIS CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE WAS LOST AND THE BRAKES STOPPED RESPONDING WHICH LEAD TO A SECOND CRASH WITH THE PASSENGER SIDE (RIGHT) SECURITY FENCE. THE VEHICLE CAME TO A COMPLETE AND ABRUPT HALT BECAUSE THE ENTIRE FRONT TRAIN WAS DESTROYED, THE FRONT WHEELS LITERALLY FELL OFF THE SUV BECAUSE THE IRON SEEMED LIKE IT HAD BEEN CUT THROUGH WITH A KNIFE. WHAT IS COMPLETELY SURPRISING IS THE FACT THAT AFTER TWO MAJOR COLLISIONS THE AIRBAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY AT ALL WHICH LEAD THE PASSENGER TO RECEIVE A BLOW TO HEAD AND THE DRIVER A BLOW TO THE HIP AND LEFT KNEE (THANKFULLY THEY WERE CLEARED OF MAJOR INJURIES BY DOCTORS), ALL OF THIS HAPPENED WITH BOTH VICTIMS OF THE CRASH USING THEIR SEATBELTS IN THE CORRECT MANNER. I TOOK IT TO A DEALER SERVICE CENTER THREE DIFFERENT TIMES FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM. THEY FIRST CHANGED AUXILIARY BATTERY AND TOLD ME TO DRIVE THE CAR. THE VERY NEXT DAY CAR STARTED STOPPING AGAIN. THEY THEN CHANGED THE 2ND (MAIN) BATTERY. PROBLEM REMAINED. THEN FINALLY THEY FOUND THAT ONE OF THE BATTERY WIRES WAS NOT SECURELY CONNECTED TO THE STARTER VIA A CONNECTOR. THEY HAVE PUT A NEW CONNECTOR. IT IS A SCARY SITUATION, AND CAN LEAD TO LOSS OF LIFE ON ROAD. IF IT KNOCKS OFF THE ENGINE BEHIND A TRAFFIC JAM AND DOES NOT START BACK IT MAY LEAD TO SERIOUS ACCIDENT AND EVEN DEATH. IT IS ONLY 6 MONTH OLD BRAND NEW CAR AND I DID NOT EXPECT THIS PROBLEM. IT CAN NOT BE EASILY PUT IN NEUTRAL GEAR IF ENGINE CAN NOT BE STARTED WHICH IS A MAJOR TRAFFIC HAZARD. THIS NEEDS TO BE THOROUGHLY INVESTIGATED AND RECALLED. THEY HAVE PROVIDED AN OPTION TO OVERRIDE PARK GEAR IN TO NEUTRAL BUT IT IS NOT VERY EASY FOR A PERSON TO LOCATE AND FIND THE OVERRIDE OPTION. I THINK THIS PROBLEM IS A MAJOR TRAFFIC SAFETY HAZARD. I REQUEST YOU TO KINDLY INVESTIGATE THIS PROBLEM WITH JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY, TRANSMISSION WAS PLACED IN PARK AND POWER WAS COMPLETELY OFF WHEN IT BEGAN ROLLING DOWNHILL WHILE UNATTENDED. EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS NOT SET. VEHICLE WAS PARKED ON A SLIGHT INCLINE.

I SPECIFICALLY PURCHASED A 2017 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE 4X4 TO COPE WITH WINTERS IN DETROIT, MICHIGAN. HOWEVER, AFTER ONLY TWO SNOWFALLS THE VEHICLE HAS SLID FOUR TIMES ON CITY STREETS AND MORE SIGNIFICANTLY FISH TAILED ON AN I-75 OFF RAMP. IN NO INSTANCES DID THE 4X4 SYSTEM TRY TO CORRECT THROUGH OR NOTIFY THE OPERATOR. IN ONE INSTANCE THE ABS WAS ABLE TO SAFELY BRING ME TO A STOP OVER THE LINE AT A FOUR WAY STOP INTERSECTION. THIS IS BEHAVIOR IS UNSAFE FOR EVERYDAY EXPECTED DRIVING SCENARIOS. MORE SHOULD BE EXPECTED OF A MODEL YEAR 2017 4X4 VEHICLE SOLD IN MICHIGAN. UNSAFE. I NOW NEED TO SPEND $900-$1000 TO REMEDIATE THE SITUATION BY BUYING BETTER TIRES THAN THOSE PROVIDED BY THE OEM.

THE VEHICLE MEMORY SYSTEM IS NOT WORKING AT ALL, WE BOUGHT IN 12/2016 AND SOMEWHERE IN 6/2017 IT STOPPED WORKING, IF YOU KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT CARS THE MEMORY SYSTEM CONTROLS MANY ASPECTS OF THE VEHICLE THAT DO NOT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE SEAT, STEERING WHEEL, MIORROR'S, AND RDS, IT ALSO CONTROLS ENGINE FUNCTIONS AND SAFETY SYSTEMS, AIR BAGS, SEATBELTS, BRAKES., WHY THE VEHICLE LEARNS YOUR DRIVING HABITS AND WHEN YOU USE DIFFERENT SETTINGS FOR DIFFERENT DRIVERS, NOW IT HAS CONTROL OVER YOUR VEHICLE AND DRIVING HABITS OR ANOTHER DRIVERS HABITS. (I HAD A 15 OVERLAND THAT WOULDN'T SYNC THE REMOTES TO THE MEMORY SETTINGS AFTER MULTIPLE ATEMTS, I ALSO HAVE A 14 RAM LIMITED THAT WORKS JUST FINE.) SO THIS IS AN ONGOING ISSUE FOR THE GRANDELAY CHEROKEE LINEUP. PER SAY THE SYSTEM BE LIVES IT IS WORKING BUT HASN'T MOVED YOUR SEAT OR THINKS YOUR SEAT IS IN AN ALTERNATIVE POSITION AND YOU GET IN TO AN ACCIDENT, AND THE SAFETY SYSTEM OVER OR UNDER REACTS TO PROTECT ITS OCUPANTS DUE TO SYSTEM ERRORS, EQUIPMENT MALFUNCTIONING, AND VEHICLE COPONENTS NOT COMMUNICATING PROPERLY. THIS COULD END IN A CATASTROPHE AND POTENTIALLY INJURIES, DEATH, AND DESTRUCTION OF PRIVATE PROPERTY. SHORTLY AFTER I BOUGHT THE SUMMIT I WAS AT THE DEALERSHIP WITH MY RAM (REGARDING SURVICE), A ELDERLY GENTLEMAN BROUGHT HIS 17 GC INTO THE SERVICE DEPTH COMPLAIN ABOUT THE MEMORY SYSTEM NOT OPERATING, I DIDN'T THINK ANYTHING ABOUT IT "BUT THIS OLD MAN CAN'T KEEP UP WITH TECHNOLOGY AND JUST NEEDED ASSISTANCE" I HAVE ALSO SPOKEN TO MULTIPLE GC OWNERS AT GAS STATION'S, PARKING LOTS, AND RANDOM SHOPS AND ALMOST EVERY 2017 STARTS MALFUNCTIONING AFTER ABOUT 1 TO 6 MONTHS AND DOES NOT FIX/DEFAULT ON ITS OWN, I HAD RDS ISSUES ON MY 14 GC REMEDY HOLD BOTH VOLUME AND TUNER AT THE SAME TIME TO RESET THE SYSTEM, THIS DIDN'T HELPMY 17, I HAVE A A POINT MENTIONED TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT BY THE DEALERSHIP.

I HAVE EXPERIENCED NUMEROUS INSTANCES OF THE VEHICLE REMAINING IN RUN MODE AFTER I PUSH THE STOP BUTTON TO SHUT IT DOWN. THIS ONLY OCCURS WHEN THE ESS (ENGINE STOP/START) IS ENABLED. MY INITIAL BELIEF WAS THAT THE ESS WAS RESTARTING THE VEHICLE. UPON FURTHER OBSERVATION, I NOW BELIEVE THAT THE VEHICLE IS IGNORING THE STOP BUTTON INPUT. I REALIZED THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE WHEN THE VEHICLE FAILED TO SHUT DOWN AT A GAS STATION AND I REFUELED WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING. I FAILED TO REALIZE THAT THE VEHICLE HAD NOT SHUT DOWN DUE TO EXCESSIVE NOISE IN THE AREA. THE VEHICLE FAILS TO SHUT DOWN UNDER THESE CONDITIONS: 1.THE VEHICLE IS RUNNING AND THE ESS IS ENABLED. 2.I PULL INTO A PARKING POSITION AND HOLD THE BRAKE LONG ENOUGH FOR THE ESS TO BEGIN THE STOP ENGINE SEQUENCE. 3.I PUSH THE SHIFTER INTO PARK AS THE ESS IS IN THE STOP ENGINE SEQUENCE. 4.I IMMEDIATELY DEPRESS AND HOLD THE STOP BUTTON. 5.THE VEHICLE FAILS TO SHUT DOWN. THE VEHICLE WILL NOT SHUT DOWN UNTIL THE STOP BUTTON IS RELEASED AND PUSHED A SECOND. I ESTIMATE THAT THIS HAPPENS TO ME APPROXIMATELY 20% OF THE TIME I ATTEMPT TO SHUT DOWN THE VEHICLE WITH THE ESS ENABLED. THIS NEVER HAPPENS WHEN THE ESS IS DISABLED. I HAVE TAKEN MY GRAND CHEROKEE TO THE DEALER AND A STAR CASE WAS CREATED AT FCA. THIS FAILURE TO SHUT DOWN WAS DEMONSTRATED TO THE MECHANIC ON MY VEHICLE AND ON ANOTHER GRAND CHEROKEE FROM THEIR LOT. FCA ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THE FAILURE TO SHUT DOWN SITUATION DOES OCCUR AS I DESCRIBED. HOWEVER, FCA HAS NOT INDICATED THEY ARE TAKING ANY STEPS TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. FCA SEEMS TO BE INDICATING TO ME THAT THE SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM IS THAT I NEED TO BE MORE CAREFUL. I DO NOT FIND THIS TO BE AN ACCEPTABLE ANSWER. I BELIEVE THAT THE ESS UNDER ENGINEERED, UNDER DEVELOPED AND LACKS THE SOPHISTICATION NEEDED TO BE SAFELY USED.
