I Purchased my my vehicle from a dealer approximately two and a half months ago. While driving the transmission of the vehicle gave out. The car rpm shot up to seven thousand and only goes 30 mph. My safety was in jeopardy because the vehicle lowed down rapidly and I had to maneuver to the side of the road in order not to be struck from the rear. I had taken it to get inspected by AAMCO and was informed that the transmission failed.

I own a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland. On December 5, 2025, the vehicle received a transmission fluid exchange service at a Jeep dealership. Prior to this service, the transmission operated normally with no hesitation, harsh shifts, or warning lights. Within a few days after the service, I began noticing delayed engagement and hesitation during shifts. On December 14, 2025, while driving at highway speed, the transmission suddenly shifted harshly with a rapid increase in engine RPM followed by a hard engagement. Later the same day, when stopped at a traffic light, the vehicle hesitated to move forward, revved abnormally, then engaged abruptly. A check engine light illuminated at that time. The vehicle behavior was unpredictable and created a safety concern while driving in traffic, particularly during acceleration from a stop and at highway speeds. The vehicle was driven directly to the servicing dealership and is currently available for inspection. The issue began only after the transmission service was performed. The transmission had no prior symptoms before the service. Warning indicators: Check engine light illuminated on December 14, 2025 after the transmission exhibited harsh shifting and hesitation. Inspection status: The vehicle is currently at the dealership that performed the transmission service for diagnosis.

My brake light light up, check engine light comes on and my Stability Control system does not work. My car won't electric start as the check engine light is illuminated. I took the vehicle to the dealership and they could not help me as there is no fix in place.

The contact owns a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact was able to move the gear shifter without first depressing the brake pedal. In addition, the "Service 4WD" and "Service ABS" messages were displayed on the instrument panel while driving at various speeds. The vehicle was initially taken to an independent mechanic who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. While with the independent mechanic, the vehicle failed to move while shifted in reverse(R). The vehicle was then taken to a dealer and the drivetrain control module, and the transmission control module were replaced. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V838000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulics); however, the vehicle was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was filed. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 88,312.

I was driving my 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4x4 on the highway at approximately 65-70 MPH, when suddenly the car started sputtering and my check engine light came on and started blinking. The car was essentially not drivable, so I pulled over at a gas station and had the car towed. This is dangerous as I was going uphill, and could have caused an accident, or worse. I did not have a check engine light prior to this! The next day the car was inspected and diagnosed by independent service center, who said there was a cylinder 4 engine misfire, so they replaced the spark plugs and the coils. Car was fixed, or so I thought, fast forward a couple months later while driving to work, same issue (misfires and sputtering) occurs again and coolant now runs low even though there are no visible signs of coolant leakage. I spoke to the independent service center and they mentioned there might be an issue with the engine such as a head gasket or fuel system. I got the Jeep towed to get checked, it was confirmed that it was an engine issue, especially the head gasket, camshaft, pistons, and lifters, and that I was going to need a new engine and it would cost between $8500 - 13000. My Jeep has approximately 83K miles. The issues I describe here with this engine are all similar to those that have been reported.

I just bought this vehicle in February. Since then, about 4 times while driving when i came to a stop the car will not accelerate and the screen tells me to put car in “P” then shift into gear. One time I had to restart the car to put into gear. Then the car drives again.

POWER TRANSFER UNIT While driving it seems to go out of gear and revs up. Have to shift out of present drive to netural and back to drive. Happens off and on. Done it on interstate would not go with giving gas until shifted to netural and back to drive. Almost got rear ended There is a recall for same problem but mine is not on recall list. WHY THIS IS AN ACCIDENT WAITING. Also there was a recall on my type of vehicle but not mine for Suppension block which I had to just have done a week ago that cost me $4000.00 at John Hinderer Chrysler Dodge at 1290 Hebron Rd Heath Ohio 43055. Ph 740-522-1106 which can give the repair list. Why again was mine not on the list. This should have been covered.

Dear National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, I'm writing to report a critical safety concern regarding the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee's water pump design. As an owner, I've experienced persistent coolant leaks, which I've found is a widespread issue affecting many others. This problem stems from a fundamental design flaw in the water pump, not typical wear and tear. The issue centers on a small "freeze plug" that leaks when the engine reaches operating temperature. This plug serves no apparent purpose and causes premature failures and coolant leaks across numerous vehicles. Key points: The leak occurs consistently when the engine is hot, indicating a design-related problem. This issue potentially leads to engine overheating and severe damage. It affects many vehicles, particularly those with the 3.6L V6 engine. Extensive research on online forums confirms this is a common problem. A YouTube video [XXX] ) provides insight into the issue. The creator states: "Upon digging into this a bit deeper, I don't believe it's the 'weep hole'. It's actually like a small 'freeze plug' that leaks on these pumps. If you look through the pulley at the opposite side of the aluminum freeze plug that leaks, you will see the weep hole. This 'freeze plug' that leaks serves no purpose as far as I see it. It's just like they slapped this plug in the front of the pump… and it leaks when it gets hot." Given this evidence of a design flaw and its widespread impact, I urge NHTSA to: Investigate the water pump design of the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee and similar models. Assess the safety implications, including the risk of engine overheating and potential vehicle failures. Consider whether a recall or other corrective action is necessary. The fact that this is a design issue rather than wear-and-tear underscores its urgency. All vehicles with this water pump design are potentially at risk, regardless of mileage or maintenance history. Thank you INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Jeep uses a transmission manufactured by ZF. Jeep claims the transmission is "filled for life" and does not require any maintenance, and never requires the oil to be changed. ZF recommends the oil be changed every 50-75,000 miles. Many other car manufacturers that utilize ZF transmissions recommend that same interval. In fact, if you push Jeep to change your transmission oil, they suggest it will void your warranty. Preventative maintenance in the form of a transmission fluid change is necessary for the health and longevity of the vehicle. Jeep is negligent in this matter. When your transmission fails, you are thrust into "limp" mode, capping your speed at 15-20 mph. This occurred to me on the highway. I narrowly avoided being rear ended in traffic traveling 65+ mph. My car has been babied, all factory recommended services have been done in a timely manner, I was not having any issues with the car at the time, and there were no symptoms, warning lights, etc at the time.

Mar 29, 2023 Fire

2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 55,575 miles was parked in a parking garage all day in Brooklyn NY and when the vehicle was move to the front of the garage by parking attendants the engine started smoking and caught fire. There were no leaks, dashboard symbols or open recalls to cause the fire; additionally the car was linked to a iPhone App CarRx that can scan for any issue and no issue noted. This engine fire not only put all of the other vehicles in the park garage at risk of catching fire but the parking garage sits under a luxury apartment building putting the working and residents at risk. Additionally I commute between Brooklyn and NJ 3x a week and cant imagine what would have happened if I was driving the vehicle over the Brooklyn Bridge, on the Brooklyn Queens Express or in the Holland Tunnel during high commuter rush hour traffic. Car was checked out by a Jeep Dealership who confirm fire was not caused by any leaks or electrical issue but did mentioned it seems to have started around the engine air cleaner. The current status of the issue has been an open investigation with Jeep Corporate for going on the 3rd week with no communication or updates on status. The entire issue and fire from pulling into the garage to the when the car was moved to it smoking and catching fire is all documented on security video.

The vehicle stalled while driving on a busy road. It sounded like it couldn’t shift gears. It also accelerated once I tried to move it to a safer location on the side of the road. It was very scary not knowing if I could get out of the stalling situation in the middle of traffic. The unexpected acceleration upon trying to park it safely was also terrifying.

Transmission failed while driving. Had someone been behind me they would have hit me. It was towed to a dealer and through the extended warranty it was deemed a faulty transmission. There was no indication of an issue until it happened. Once the transmission failed the check engine light came on.

On our way to the grocery store, I turned onto the highway and began accelerating. Suddenly the engine shuts off and random messages pop up on the display. The "D" on the shift indicator was blinking telling me to put the vehicle into park to restart. Steering and braking were impaired as i tried to get the vehicle to the emergency lane. Numerous vehicles at highway speeds had to make rapid maneuvers to avoid hitting us. After coming to a stop and putting the vehicle in park, I restarted the vehicle. The engine light was now on and there were numerous messages coming up on the display. There were also random electrical occurrences as well, rear wiper running with switch in off position. This was a very dangerous situation. Had the individual behind us not had room to maneuver into the adjacent lane he would have impacted us for sure. This seems to be a known issue that needs to be addressed. As this incident just happened i have not a chance to contact a dealer yet. There was no warning prior to the incident. We have had no issues with this vehicle to this point save one, and I do not know if they are related or not. But randomly for a few months prior to this incident, the vehicles radio/control console would freeze up becoming totally unresponsive. It will eventually reboot itself and begin working again. Sometimes after one restart and other times it takes several restarts after varying lengths of time being frozen. The frequency of these occurrences seem to be increasing also. If this was just your radio controls it would be annoying enough, this is your control center for everything. Have not addressed this with the dealer yet as well. I will be contacting my nearest dealership this week.

Just purchased 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee from bulk dealer. The engine consistently stalls while in drive (at red lights, stop signs, intersections) causing safety issues and near MVAs. During stall, the AC continues to blow but air is not cold. The VIN# shows no unrepaired recalls, but the vehicle is behaving exactly as described in recall U87. It still has some time on warranty but I'm not sure how to proceed here. This is certainly unsafe.

I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO EARNHARDT JEEP IN GILBERT ARIZONA FOR THE W79 EGR COOLER RECALL AND ONLY THE EGR VALVE WAS REPLACED AND NOT THE EGR COOLER. THE RECALL STATED THAT THE EGR COOLER COULD CRACK FROM THERMAL FATIGUE AND A NEW EGR COOLER WITH THICKER WALLS WOULD BE INSTALLED. THIS ISSUE IF THE EGR COOLER CRACKS CAN CAUSE COOLENT TO GO INTO THE AIR ENGINE INTAKE AND CAUSE A FIRE. THE VALVE DOES NOT HAVE COOLENT GOING THROUGH IT SO I DO NOT KNOW HOW THIS CAN BE A COMPLETE FIX. THE VEHICLE HAD THE VALVE REPLACED 4-7-2021 AND I RETURNED THE VEHICLE 5-5-2021 WITHE THE MILL LIGHT ON WITH THE SAME CODE. CAR STILL IN THE SHOP. FCA SAYS THE CURRENT REMEDY IS VALVE REPLACEMENT AND NOT THE EGR COOLER. THIS DOES NOT SEEM LOGICAL AND I NEED NHTSA HELP TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE SO MY WIFES VEHICLE IS NOT A FUTURE FIRE HAZZARD.

AFTER STARTING MY CAR I WENT IN MY HOUSE TO GET SOMETHING. MY CAR SLIPPED INTO REVERSE AND ROLLED DOWN MY LAWN ACROSS A BUSY STREET AND HIT A TREE. THE EMERGENCY BRAKING SYSTEM DID NOT ENGAGE. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR BACK TO WHERE IT WAS PARKED. I THEN TESTED TO SEE IF I COULD HAVE ACCIDENTALLY PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE WHEN I GOT OUT IT. IT BEGAN TO ROLL IN REVERSE AND I WASN'T TOUCHING THE GAS. I COULD NOT HAVE GOTTEN OF THE CAR IF WERE IN REVERSE BECAUSE IT WOULD HAVE BEEN ROLLING. APPARENTLY WHEN THE CAR IS IN A PARKED POSITION IT CAN SLIP INTO REVERSE.

HERE ARE TIMES WHEN I HAVE PULLED OUT (WITH VARIOUS PEOPLE IN THE CAR) MOST RECENTLY MY 13 YEAR-OLD-SON, WHO WAS SCREAMING, "DAD WHAT ARE YOU DOING, WE ARE ABOUT TO BE HIT," AND THE CAR HAS COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN. (NO INTERIOR LIGHTS, OR RUNNING ENGINE) QUICK THINKING SAVED US FROM A MAJOR DISASTER. WE WERE ALMOST T-BONED LAST WEEK BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM. THIS WOULD NOT BE THE FIRST TIME FOR THIS PROBLEM. PROBLEM #3: WHILE DRIVING, I PULLED OUT FROM MY STREET, A RED LIGHT OR PARKING LOT AND THE TRANSMISSION DID NOT ENGAGE, THE ENGINE REVVED (WITHOUT MOVING) AND AGAIN, I WAS ALMOST T-BONED. IT HAPPENED AGAIN THIS MORNING. PROBLEM #4: THERE ARE TIMES WHEN I AM TRAVELING UP OR DOWNHILL, THE TRANSMISSION WILL WIND OUT, THE TACHOMETER WILL SPIKE AND THEN THE JEEP MAKES A KNOCKING NOISE AND THEN I CAN CONTINUE. YOU COULD DRIVE THE CAR FOR MONTHS AND THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN IT HAPPENS. PROBLEM #5: I WAS BACKING INTO MY DRIVEWAY, THE BACK UP CAMERA STOPPED WORKING AND MY JEEP COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN. THIS HAPPENS ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION AND HAS NO PRECURSOR TO WHEN IT IS GOING TO HAPPEN. *TR

AN ISSUE RELATING TO ELECTRICAL OR POWER TRAIN CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO STALL AND REMAIN IN A NO START CONDITION. WITHOUT WARNING, THE VEHICLE IS COMPLETELY WITHOUT ELECTRICAL POWER WHILE DRIVING AND THE VEHICLE BECOMES UNABLE TO BE CONTROLLED. THIS VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURED 9/2018, PURCHASED 12/18. THIS INCIDENT HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE ON THE INTERSTATE AT A SPEED OF 45-55 MPH ON 5/31/18 AND AGAIN WHILE DRIVING AT 30-40 MPH ON A CITY STREET ON 10/18/19. BOTH OF THESE INCIDENTS WERE TERRIFYING AND THANKFULLY WE WERE NOT INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. THE ONLY SERVICE THAT HAS BEEN PERFORMED (OIL CHANGES AND THESE TWO ISSUES) WAS COMPLETED BY THE DEALERSHIP WHERE IT WAS PURCHASED. BOTH TIMES THE VEHICLE FAILED, THE DEALERSHIP DISCOVERED THAT THE MASTER FUSE WAS "BLOWN" AND THE REPLACED IT. THIS IS AN UNSAFE VEHICLE THAT I AM NOW FORCED TO PAY FOR AND DRIVE MYSELF AND MY CHILDREN AROUND IN NOT KNOWING WHEN IT WILL SHUT OFF AND I WILL NO LONGER BE ABLE TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE OR MOVE FROM THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC. WHEN CALLING THE MANUFACTURER, I WAS TOLD THAT THE RECALL NUMBER U87 / NHTSA ID 18V524000 DID NOT INCLUDE MY VIN NUMBER ALTHOUGH THE DESCRIPTION IS EXACTLY THE SAME. THIS RECALL EXPLAINS THAT THE DEALER SHOULD REPLACE THE POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE BECAUSE IT MAY BE EQUIPPED WITH A VOLTAGE REGULATOR CHIP IN THE CIRCUIT BOARD THAT MAY FAIL CAUSING A STALL OR NO START CONDITION AND POTENTIALLY CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO STALL WHILE DRIVING AND CAUSE A RISK OF CRASH. YET, THE DEALERSHIP IS UNWILLING TO DO ANYTHING TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE BECAUSE THE RECALL DOES NOT INCLUDE THIS VIN. THE MANUFACTURER REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THIS ISSUE AND THIS IS MY ONLY RECOURSE UNTIL THE ISSUE HAPPENS TWO MORE TIMES, I SURVIVE BEING IN AN INOPERABLE MOVING VEHICLE AND CAN FILE FOR LEMON LAW RIGHTS.

I HAVE A "NO START" ISSUE. WHEN THE IGNITION BUTTON IS PUSHED TO START THE VEHICLE, THE STARTER TURNS, BUT THE ENGINE DOES NOT CRANK. THERE ARE TIMES WHEN IT MAY TAKE UP TO 10 SECONDS OR SO TO GET THE STARTER TO TURN OFF. THIS IS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM, BUT IS GETTING MORE FREQUENT.

ALL WHEELS WERE LOCKED, SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT ON. TURNING CAR OFF AND BACK ON DIDN'T HELP. I WAS UNABLE TO MOVE THE SHIFT FROM D TO ANY OTHER SHIFT. IT WAS VERY SCARY AS I WAS ON HEAVY TRAFFIC ROAD, UNABLE TO MOVE THE CAR IN THE MIDDLE LANE DURING WORK RUSH HOUR. 2018 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE TRACKHAWK THROTTLE STUCK OPEN AND BEGAN ACCELERATING AFTER REMOVING FOOT FROM GAS PEDAL. THIS ISSUE IS NOT RELATED TO THE FLOOR MAT RECALL AS I HAVE ALREADY HAD THE RECALL PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE BY THE DEALERSHIP. THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED A SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. I HAD TO PRESS THE IGNITION TO TURN THE POWER OFF AND SLAM HARD ON THE BRAKES TO STOP THE VEHICLE FROM CONTINUING TO ACCELERATE.

HAD SEVERAL ISSUES WITH THIS RENTED VEHICLE STILL RUNNING AFTER PUSHING BUTTON TO STOP VEHICLE WHEN PARKED. FAMILY MEMBERS TOLD ME 'YOUR CAR IS STILL ON' AT LEAST 3 TIMES. HAD ISSUES WHEN STOPPED AT AN INTERSECTION. THE VEHICLE SEEMED TO DIE & WAS VERY DELAYED WHEN STARTING TO GO AGAIN-REQUIRED MORE PRESSURE ON GAS PEDAL THAN USUAL. HAD ISSUES WHILE FILLING THE VEHICLE WITH FUEL. SEVERAL TIMES THE PUMP WOULD CUT OFF (APPROXIMATELY 10 TIMES) INDICATING THAT THE TANK WAS FULL WHEN I KNEW IT WASN'T. HAD A SEVERE ISSUE RESULTING IN DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE & THE ALOHA ISLAND MART AT 50 PAKAULA ST. KAHULUI, HI 96732 GAS PUMP. I STOPPED TO FUEL UP IN ORDER TO RETURN THE RENTAL VEHICLE TO BUDGET RENTAL CAR (865 W MOKUEA PL, KAHULUI, HI, 96732), I PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK, PUSHED THE BUTTON TO STOP THE VEHICLE TO TURN OFF THE MOTOR. EXITED THE VEHICLE TO GET THE CREDIT CARD OUT OF MY PURSE WHICH WAS IN THE BACK ON THE FLOOR BOARD IN A BEACH BAG I SAW THAT THE VEHICLE WAS ROLLING BACK. THERE WAS NO SLOPE TO THE PARKING LOT, IT WAS LEVEL GROUND. I JUMPED BACK IN THE VEHICLE WITH LEFT FOOT OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE AND PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE TO STOP IT, IT WENT OUT OF CONTROL BACKWARDS. THANKFULLY I GOT MY LEFT FOOT IN AND HAD TO USE BOTH FEET ON THE BREAK TO STOP THE VEHICLE. PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK & TURNED IT OFF AGAIN.THE DOOR & DRIVER FRONT QUARTER PANEL SUSTAINED SEVERE DAMAGE FROM HITTING THE GAS PUMP WHICH ALSO RECEIVED DAMAGE. ALTHOUGH THE PUMP WAS IN WORKABLE CONDITION ONCE THE VEHICLE FINALLY STARTED & WAS MOVED. THIS COULD HAVE RESULTED IN SEVERE BODILY DAMAGE TO MYSELF AS WELL AS MORE VEHICLE & BODILY DAMAGE IF SOMEONE HAD BEEN BEHIND ME AT THE NEXT PUMP. NEEDLESS TO SAY I WAS TERRIFIED, SHAKING UNCONTROLLABLY & THE THOUGHT OF WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED. AFTER READING THE COMPLAINTS & RECALLS ON THE JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE I FEEL THIS ONE SHOULD BE ADDED.

AFTER DRIVING INTO CONDO GARAGE, I PUT TRANSMISSION INTO PARK, WITH ENGINE RUNNING, AND OPENED DOOR TO EXIT VEHICLE - CAR STARTED MOVING BACKWARDS - THE SURFACE IS FLAT. I WAS PARTWAY OUT OF THE VEHICLE, HIT THE BRAKE PEDAL BUT COULD NOT STOP IT BEFORE THE OPEN DOOR IMPACTED A CONCRETE PILLAR INCURRING DAMAGE PREVENTING DOOR FROM BEING SUBSEQUENTLY CLOSED. IF I HAD BEEN FURTHER OUT OF THE CAR THE RESULT COULD HAVE BEEN FAR WORSE. THE VEHICLE BEHAVIOR WAS EXTRA ALARMING BECAUSE MY EXPERIENCE PRIOR WAS THAT THE TRANSMISSION TENDED TO BOUNCE BACK TO PARK WHEN SELECTING REVERSE. ALSO WHEN IN REVERSE - EXTRA EFFORT IS REQUIRED ON THE GAS PEDAL TO MAKE THE VEHICLE MOVE. SO HERE - NOT ONLY DID IT SEEM TO BE IN REVERSE DESPITE MY PUSHING TO PARK - THE VEHICLE WAS AT IDLE SPEED WHICH HAS PREVIOUSLY NOT BEEN SUFFICIENT FOR MOVEMENT.

MY 2018 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE JUST ACCELERATED BY ITSELF UP A SIDEWALK AT A PARKING LOT AND RAN INTO THE PILLAR OF A BUILDING. I THEN PUT IT IN REVERSE AND IT ACCELERATED INTO A CAR PARKED BESIDE ME. THE FRONT AXLE SNAPPED COMPLETELY EVEN THOUGH THE IMPACT WAS NOT TREMENDOUS. THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. THIS VEHICLE HAS ALL KINDS OF IMPACT SENSORS AND USUALLY BRAKES ON ITS OWN EVEN WHEN IT SENSES A LEAF FROM A NEARBY BUSH AND NONE OF THAT WORKED. THIS HAPPENED JUST YESTERDAY AND I'M AT A LOSS AS TO WHAT TO DO. I CANNOT BELIEVE MY INTERNET SEARCH HAS YIELDED SO MANY SIMILAR STORIES! *DT *DT *DT*JB

AFTER TURNING ON THE IGNITION AND PUTTING CAR INTO REVERSE THE REVERSE LIGHT FLASHES AND CAR WILL NOT GO INTO REVERSE, SAME FOR PUTTING INTO DRIVE. ENGINE LIGHT STAYS ON. THIS PROBLEM ONLY LASTS FOR A FEW SECONDS AND THEN THE CAR CAN GO INTO REVERSE. I BROUGHT IT INTO THE DEALER THEY HAD IT FOR 4 DAYS AND COULD ONLY RECREATE THE PROBLEM ONCE. IT HAS HAPPENED TO ME TWICE PRIOR TO BRINGING IT INTO THE DEALER. THE DEALER COULD NOT FIND ANY ELECTRICAL OR ENGINE ISSUES. I WAS TOLD TO BRING IT HOME AND WHEN IT LASTED TO LONGER THEN TO NOTIFY THEM. VERY DISCONCERTING!! HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL I CANNOT DRIVE THE CAR!

AFTER HAVING MY JEEP BRAND NEW FROM THE DEALER ROUGHLY ABOUT TWO WEEKS AFTER PURCHASING THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TURNED ON. WE BOUGHT OUR JEEP FROM AUTONATION IN SPRING, TX. WE LIVE IN GALVESTON COUNTY SO WHEN IT TURNED ON WE TOOK IT TO AUTOZONE FOR THE FREE CODE CHECK - THE CODE READ WAS P20E8 AND IT JUST SAID EMISSIONS CODE. NO SPECIFIC READOUT WAS AVAILABLE FOR THE CODE DETECTED. THE EXACT JEEP WE OWN IS A 2018 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE SERLING EDITION ECODIESEL. WE DID NOTICE THAT THE DEF FLUID WAS NOT PROPERLY FILLED TO THE FULL LEVEL UPON THE PURCHASE SO FIGURED IT COULD IN RELATION TO THAT. WE DROVE BACK UP TO SPRING TO THE DEALER AND TOLD THEM THE ISSUE AND THEY SAID OK GOT US IN A RENTAL AND THEN WOULD CALL US AS SOON AS IT WAS READY. ONCE WE PICKED IT UP IT WE ASKED WHAT WAS THE CAUSE FOR THE CODE AND THE TECHNICIAN SAID 'OH WELL IT WAS NOTHING - JUST SOMETHING THAT WE FORGOT TO TURN OFF'. ON THE WAY HOME THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AGAIN COMES BACK ON THE DASH. WE STOP BY ANOTHER JEEP DEALER IN THE WAY HOME AND INQUIRED WITH THEM WHAT THEY THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE AND THEY SAID 'THAT WHATEVER THE DEALERSHIP TOLD YOU CANNOT BE TRUE'. THEN BILL OR SERVICE OR RECEIPT SAID CHECK ENGINE LIGHT P20E8 WAS FOUND DEF PUMP LOW PRESSURE FAULT IS STORED, FOUND TANK LOW WITH LESS THAN 2 INCHES OF FLUID IN TAKE, FOUND VEHICLE WAS NOT TOPPED OFF WHEN PURCHASED, ADDED DEF TO TANK AND CLEARED CODES AND VERIFIED PROPER DEF FLUID PRESSURES AT INJECTOR. THE LIGHT REMAINS ON TWO DAYS LATER AND NOW A MESSAGE POPS ON MY DASH AND SAID 'DEF SYSTEM PROBLEMS SEE DEALER'. NORMALLY I WOULD NOT BE SO UPSET BUT THIS A BRAND NEW CAR THE DEALER (NOT MENTIONED) WAS NOT EXACTLY HELPFUL DROPPING OFF OR RECEIVING THE VEHICLE BACK WITH ANY KIND OF HELPFUL INFORMATION. I LOVE MY CAR AND JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE IT CAN BE PROPERLY FIXED SO I HOPEFULLY DO NOT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT MY SAFETY OR THE INTEGRITY OF MY CAR.

THIS SUV HAS THE ENERGY EFFICIENT SHUTDOWN/RESTART FEATURE. AFTER BEING STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT, I RE-ENGAGED THE ENGINE/TRANSMISSION BY LIFTING MY FOOT OFF OF THE BRAKE AND BEGAN PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR. THERE WAS VERY LITTLE POWER TO ACCELERATE, YOU COULD HEAR THE GRINDING AND PULLING OF THE ENGINE/TRANSMISSION BUT ONLY A LITTLE POWER. I PUT ON THE EMERGENCY HAZARD LIGHTS, LOOKED AROUND THE DASH FOR MESSAGES AND VERIFIED THAT THE GEAR WAS INDEED IN DRIVE. I CONTINUED TO PRESS THE ACCELERATOR TO MOVE THE TRUCK OUT OF TRAFFIC. I MADE IT TO A DRIVEWAY WHERE I COULD PULL OFF OF THE MAIN STREET AND NOT BLOCK THE MORNING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. I PUT THE TRUCK IN PARK, LOOKED AT EVERYTHING AGAIN (NO WARNINGS OR ERROR MESSAGES) AND PUT THE TRUCK IN GEAR AND IT MOVED AS IT WAS SUPPOSED TO DO. I MADE IT BACK TO THE STREET, WENT A SHORT DISTANCE (LESS THAN 2 BLOCKS), STARTED TO GO UP A SMALL HILL AND THE NO POWER ISSUE HAPPENED AGAIN. I WAS LESS THAN A BLOCK AWAY FROM MY DESTINATION, SO I S-L-O-W-L-Y MADE IT TO THE TOP OF THE HILL. I PARKED IN MY OFFICE'S GARAGE, REPORTED TO WORK AND CONTEMPLATED WHAT TO DO. I HAVE HAD THIS TRUCK SINCE THE END OF JUNE AND IT HAS ONLY 1,100 MILES. I WILL BE DROPPING IT OFF/TOWING IT IN TO THE DEALER REPAIR SHOP TOMORROW. THIS IS DANGEROUS AND NOT ACCEPTABLE JEEP!

I HAVE A FEW OCCURRENCES TO TELL ABOUT. 1. WHEN TAKING IT THROUGH A DRIVE THROUGH CAR WASH IT WAS PROPELLED FORWARD AT AN UNSAFE SPEED. THE VEHICLE WAS IN NEUTRAL BUT STILL WAS SHOT FORWARD AND THE BRAKES HAD TO BE APPLIED QUICKLY. THIS HAPPENED TWICE. 2. AFTER COMING OFF A FREEWAY AND COMING TO THE FIRST STOPLIGHT, WHEN THE SPEEDOMETER HIT 0 THE VEHICLE LURCHED FORWARD. I TURNED THE AUTO STOP OFF AND PROCEED DOWN THE ROAD. WHEN I HIT THE NEXT STOPLIGHT, IT DID THE SAME THING, LURCHED FORWARD HARD, WHEN THE SPEEDOMETER HIT 0. 3. WHILE GETTING UP TO SPEED, 70, ON A FREEWAY, THE VEHICLE SEEMED TO "MISS" GEARS AND IT LURCHED A FEW TIMES. 4. WHEN APPROACHING A TURN, AT SLOW A VERY SLOW SPEED, I TAPPED THE GAS FOR A LITTLE MORE SPEED AND IT PROPELLED ME FORWARD HARD AND I HAD TO HIT THE BRAKES. 5. IN THE FIRST WEEK OF OWNERSHIP AN ALERT POPPED UP ON THE CENTER SCREEN INDICATING THE CONTROL PANEL HAD DETECTED A PROBLEM WITH THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER SYSTEM AND IT WAS A FIRE HAZARD. AFTER TAKING IT TO THE DEALER THEY TOLD ME THEY COULD NOT FIND THIS IN THE COMPUTER MEMORY ANYWHERE AND THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG. AT TIMES I FEEL VERY UNSAFE IN THIS VEHICLE AND THE WHOLE REASON I BOUGHT IT IS TO FEEL SAFE AND SECURE. RIGHT NOW THE VEHICLE HAS LESS THAN 1,000 MILES ON IT.
