THEY DIAGNOSED A FAULTY IMPACT SENSOR, LEFT SIDE AND REPLACED IT AT A COST TO ME OF $297.10. TODAY, SIX MONTHS EXACTLY AFTER THAT VISIT, THE AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYED ON. I AM BRINGING IT IN TO BE LOOKED AT TOMORROW.

I KEEP MY CAR PARKED IN AN ENCLOSED GARAGE WHEN IT IS NOT BEING DRIVEN. ONE MORNING, I WENT INTO THE GARAGE TO DRIVE MY CAR TO WORK. I USED MY REMOTE TO OPEN MY CAR DOOR. I THEN NOTICED THAT THE BACKSEAT PASSENGER WINDOW, IMMEDIATELY BEHIND THE DRIVER SIDE WAS ROLLED DOWN. I KNOW I HAD NOT ROLLED IT DOWN. I GOT IN THE CAR AND PUSHED ON THE BUTTON TO RAISE THE WINDOW. THE WINDOW RATTLED AND GROANED WITH AN ELECTRICAL SOUND. I LOOKED AT THE WINDOW - IT HAD NOT ROLLED UP. I HAD TO GET TO WORK, SO I DROVE MY CAR WITH THE WINDOW IN THAT SHAPE. WHEN I GOT TO WORK I ASKED A CO-WORKER TO HELP ME TAPE IT UP. SO THEN, MY WINDOW WAS MANUALLY PUSHED UP BY TWO PEOPLE TRYING TO PUSH IT UP FROM THE INSIDE AND THE OUTSIDE. THEN TAPE WAS APPLIED TO THE WINDOW TO HOLD IT UP, BUT IT STARTED TO SLIP DOWN. SO THE PERSON WHO WAS FIRST HELPING PUT A PIECE OF CARDBOARD ON THE INSIDE PART OF THE WINDOW, SAYING THAT WOULD PREVENT IT FROM FALLING DOWN. IT WORKED FOR AWHILE, BUT THEN THE CARDBOARD SLIPPED DOWN INTO THE WINDOW. SO THEN, I FOUND TWO BIGGER PIECES OF CARDBOARD TO HOLD IT IN THE CLOSED POSITION AND WE TAPED SOME MORE. IT IS NOW TAPED UP AND SO FAR IS HOLDING, BUT AS RAIN MAY COME, IT WILL PROBABLY FALL AGAIN. I CALLED JEEP AND ASKED HOW THIS COULD BE REPAIRED. THEY TOLD ME IT WOULD COST ABOUT $400. I DON'T HAVE A SPARE $400 TO SPEND ON A CAR THAT HAS HAD A MASSIVE NUMBER OF PROBLEMS AND HAS COST ME THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS IN REPAIRS OVER THE YEAR. THEN THE NEXT THING THAT HAPPENED WAS THAT THE FRONT DRIVER-SIDE HUBCAB DISAPPEARED - THIS IS NEVER ENDING TROUBLE WITH THIS CAR. THE CAR HAS BEEN A PROBLEM FROM THE BEGINNING. I TOLD JEEP EARLY ON - THEY WOULD DO NOTHING TO HELP OR EXCHANGE IT FOR A CAR WITHOUT PROBLEMS. THIS VEHICLE IS TERRIBLE, AND THE DEALERSHIP IS EVEN WORSE.

THIS IS NOT SAFE AT ALL AND IF I WAS DRIVING ON THE ROAD, I COULD HAVE DIED. I'M SCARED TO DRIVE THIS CAR NOW AND I CAN'T AFFORD TO GO TO A MECHANIC AND PAY THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS. I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WITH CRUISE CONTROL ON DOING ABOUT 60 MPH WHEN SUDDENLY THE JEEP LIBERTY STARTED JERKING AND THE RPM NEEDLE ARM AND THE SPEEDOMETER ARM STARTED GOING CRAZY UP AND DOWN. THE LIBERTY STARTED TO SLOW DOWN SO I HAD TO PRESS ON THE GAS PEDAL TO MAINTAIN SPEED. THE SPEEDOMETER QUIT WORKING AND SO DID THE CRUISE CONTROL , THE AUTO DOOR LOCKS ALSO QUIT WORKING. THE MOTOR ALSO STARTED TO DIE WHENEVER I SLOWED DOWN OR COME TO A STOP AT A STOP SIGN OR RED LIGHTS. WHERE ITS DANGEROUS IS WHEN I AM SLOWING DOWN TO MAKE A TURN AND GOING IN TO IT OR HALF WAY IN TO IT THE MOTOR DIES AND I LOSE THE POWER STEERING. IT TAKES ALOT OF STRENGTH TO COMPLETE THE TURN SAFELY. I TOOK THE LIBERTY TO A REPAIR SHOP WHERE THEY HOOKED IT TO A ANALYZE MACHINE. IT SAID THE SPEED SENSOR WAS BAD, I HAD IT REPLACED BUT IT DIDN'T FIX ANYTHING. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WHERE I BOUGHT IT, THEY TOLD ME IT COULD BE HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS JUST TO TRY TO FIND OUT WHAT IS WRONG WITH IT. RECENTLY I CHECKED IN THE INTERNET AND SAW THAT THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF OTHER 2002 JEEP LIBERTY OWNERS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. SPEEDOMETER QUITS WORKING, MOTOR DIED WHEN YOU SLOWDOWN, AND REPLACING THE SPEED SENSOR DOESN'T FIX ANYTHING. ITS DANGEROUS BECAUSE YOU CAN CRASH WHEN MAKING A TURN AND THE MOTOR DIES AND YOU LOSE YOUR STEERING. I KNOW I HAVE HAD SOME CLOSE CALLS. I HOPE YOU WILL CHECK IN TO THIS PROBLEM. 2002 JEEP LIBERTY - PIECE IN IGNITION (IN STEERING COLUMN) BROKE AND WAS UNABLE TO START VEHICLE. *TR
THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN EXHIBITING ISSUES WITH THE IGNITION SWITCH SIMILAR TO OTHERS SUCH AS THE GM CHEVROLET COBALT AND SATURN ION. WHEN THE IGNITION SWITCH IS ROTATED TO THE START/CRANK POSITION AND THE VEHICLE STARTS AND THE KEY IS RELEASED IT SOMETIMES DOES NOT FULLY RETURN TO THE ON/RUN POSITION FROM THE START CRANK POSITION. ALTHOUGH THE ENGINE IS RUNNING AND THE VEHICLE CAN BE DRIVEN SOME ELECTRICAL FUNCTION ARE OFFLINE DUE TO THE IGNITION SWITCHES FAILURE TO REALLY RETURN TO THE ON/RUN POSITION. THE SITUATION IS NOT USUALLY NOTICED UNTIL THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION AND ONE THE EFFECTED SYSTEMS IS USED (TURN SIGNAL, HVAC, RADIO) SYSTEMS THAT ARE EFFECTED AND NOT RECEIVING POWER ARE TURN SIGNALS, RADIO, AIRBAG, HVAC. THE SWITCH CAN BE MOVED INTO THE ON/RUN POSITION AND THESE SYSTEMS THEN COME ON-LINE. THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION AND MAY RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT (SIGNAL LAMPS NOT WORKING, HVAC DEFOGGER NOT WORKING) OR POSSIBLE AIRBAG NON-DEPLOYMENT IN A CRASH (POSSIBLE INJURY OR FATALITY). THIS ISSUE HAS OCCURRED AT LEAST 3 TIMES IN THE LAST TWO WEEKS. WHILE TOWING OUR 2002 JEEP LIBERTY LE BEHIND AN RV, WITH KEY IN THE FIRST CLICK POSITION, THE KEYS HAVE TWICE FALLEN OUT OF THE IGNITION SWITCH AND CAUSED THE FRONT WHEELS TO LOCK IN AN OTHER THAN STRAIGHT-AHEAD POSITION. THIS MEANS THE SWITCH HAS ROTATED, ON ITS OWN, TO THE OFF POSITION. IN THE FIRST INSTANCE, IN 2004, THERE WAS NO DAMAGE OTHER THAN SOME SCUFFING ON THE EDGES OF THE TIRES - DUE TO THE WHEELS BECOMING LOCKED IN AN ANGLED STATE. IN THE SECOND INSTANCE, IN 2008, THERE WAS APPROXIMATELY $2,300.00 DAMAGE TO THE RIGHT FRONT OF THE JEEP. CHRYSLER HAS BEEN CONTACTED, TWICE IN 2008, BUT STATED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS CAUSED BY THE TIRE MANUFACTURER, RATHER THAN BY THE WHEELS LOCKING. DID NOT RIGHT UP A WORK ORDER. 5/27/05 HAD MASSIVE PROBLEMS BRAKES WOULD GO TO THE FLOOR, SOMETIME WOULD WORK AND OTHER TIME NOT. TOOK TO NEAREST BRAKE PLACE PADS, OKAY, BUT WHEEL CYLINDER LEAKED. CLAIM IT COULD BE A INTERMITTENT FAILURE OF MASTER CYLINDER, CALLED DEALER SHIP NO PART AVAILABLE. 7/5/05 TOOK TO DEALER AGAIN WITH SAME PROBLEMS,R THEY HAD NOT EVEN LOOKED AT IT. I WAS DRIVING MY 02 JEEP LIBERTY DOWN THE INTERSTATE PASSING A 18 WHEELER AT 75 MPH WHEN MY HEADLIGHTS, SPEEDOMETER, AND INTERIOR LIGHTS TURNED OFF. I ENDED UP SLAMMING ON MY BRAKES AND MOVING MY CAR TO THE SIDE. I THEN HAD TO DRIVE 50 MILES WHILE HOLDING MY BRIGHTS IN, AND MY FLASHERS ON. AFTER THE FACT, I REPLACED A FEW FUSES, AND THAT WORKED FOR ABOUT A MONTH. THEN, ONCE A GAIN, THE SAME THING HAPPENED, AND THIS TIME THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE FUSES. SMOKE WAS PORING OUT OF THE LIBERTY FIRE TRUCKS ARRIVED JUST AS FLAMES WERE SHOOTING OUT OF ENGINE COMPARTMENT..THEY MANAGED TO FREE THE JEEP FROM THE MOTOR HOME AND USED FIRE HOSES ON THE JEEP..JEEP IS A TOTAL LOSS..AS YET NO EXPLANATION FOR CAUSE OF FIRE. *NM

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP, WHO INDICATED THAT THE ALTERNATOR FAILED AND DRAINED BATTERY. THIS OCCURRED WITHOUT ANY WARNING. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE ALTERNATOR WITH AN UPGRADED. MY JEEP STILL SITS DEAD IN THE DRIVEWAY AT LEAST ONCE EVERY THREE WEEKS. I THEN FOUND OUT THAT THERE WERE ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS BEFORE I PURCHASED THIS VERY SAME VEHICLE, BRAND NEW. CONCLUSION, DAIMLER CHRYSLER CANNOT AND OR WILL NOT HELP ME WITH THIS, EVERYONE IS CONSTANTLY ON VACATION AND CANNOT GIVE ME ANY ANSWERS. HELLO, I PURCHASED THIS GREAT SUV IN SEPT 2003. SO FAR HAVE HAD TO BRING IT INTO DEALER 7 TIMES FOR ELECTRICAL SYSTEM (WIRING) REPAIRS. THEY COULD NOT GET REMOTE ENTRY TO WORK , SO THEY ORDERED A PART, THEN STILL WOULD NOT WORK SO ORDERED A NEW COMPUTER. THEN IN A FEW DAYS, THE DRIVER'S DOOR LOCK STOPPED WORKING, SO BROUGHT IT IN. THEY HAD TO ORDER ANOTHER PART, SO HAD TO COME IN 2X FOR THAT ONE TOO. THEN THE RIGHT REAR WINDOW WOULD NOT WORK, SO THEY REPLACED THE REGULATOR. NOW LIGHTS ON INDICATORWHEN THE DOOR IS OPEN IS NOT WORKING AND NEITHER IS THE AUTOLOCK FEATURE AFTER THE CAR IS DRIVING FOR A FEW MINUTES, SO HAVE TO VISIT THEM AGAIN. DEALER TOLD ME THAT WIRING HAD SOME RUST IN IT DUE EITHER TO FACTORY CARELESSNESS (WIRING HARNESS LEFT OUT IN WEATHER) OR FLOOD IN VEHICLE. THERE IS NO RECORD FROM CARFAX OF FLOOD TO THIS VEHICLE. DEALER SAID MAY NEED TO REPLACE ENTIRE WIRING HARNESS (2-3 DAYS IN SHOP) WHICH IS OK WITH ME IF IT WILL FIX PROBLEMS. HE SAID HE CAN'T DO IT UNLESS IT STARTS ACTING UP. AFRAID WHEN IT WILL START ACTING UP WILL BE WHEN WARRANTY EXPIRES. WOULD LIKE SERVICE DEALER (COURTESY CHRYSLER/JEEP OF CASSELBERY, FL) TO REPLACE WIRING HARNESS BEFORE SOMETHING ELSE HAPPENS. THEY HAVE BEEN REALLY GREAT EVERY TIME I'VE BROUGHT IT IN. I UNDERSTAND THEY CAN'T REPLACE THE WIRING HARNESS WITHOUT A SYMPTOM, BUT THERE HAVE BEEN LOTS OF SYMPTOMS AT THIS POINT. THE DEALER PERFORMED MULTIPLE ALIGNMENTS AT THAT TIME AND IT IS STILL NOT FIXED.

SPEED SENSOR WIRE AT REAR DIFFERENTIAL WAS CHAFED DUE TO CLOSE PROXIMITY TO BRAKE LINE TO LEFT REAR WHEEL. THE BRAEK LINE CONTACTS AT THE BASE OF THE CONENCTOR WHERE NOT PLASTIC ARMOR PROTECTS THE WIRE. *AK CONDUCTORS ARE EXPOSED AND GROUND ON THE THE BRAKE LINE, CAUSING SPEEDOMETER TO GIVE ERRATIC OR NO READINGS. MOST EVIDENT WITH PASSENGERS OR A LOAD IN THE REAR, CAOUSING THE WIRE TO CONTACT THE BRAKE LINE. ERRACTICE SPEED DATA ALSO EFFECTS AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SHIFTING, CAUSING SHARP AND ABBRUPT SHIFTS TO LOWER GEARS AT SPEED.

A BODY CONTROL MODULE WAS DEFECTIVE CAUSING LOSS OF ALMOST ALL THE ELEC ENT (DOOR LOCKS, AIR CONDITIONING, AND SPEEDOMETER). THIS PART WAS REPLACED TWICE AFTER 18 DAYS IN THE SERVICE DEPT AND STILL IS NOT OPERATIONAL. A CAR WITH ITEMS LIKE THE SPEEDOMETER NOT WORKING IS UNSAFE.
I GOT RECALL FOR DASH BOARD UNDER STEERING COLUMN STATING IT NEEDED TO BE FIXED BECAUSE OF POSSIBLE PROBLEM OF FALLING OFF WHILE DRIVING CAUSING A MAJOR ACCIDENT.. TOOK VEHICLE IN FOR RECALL. ONE WEEK LATER WHILE DRIVING, THE DASH BOARD UNDER STEERING COLUMN FELL OFF AND LANDED ON MY FEET. I HAD TO STOP MY VEHICLE IN THE ROAD TO REMOVE DASH. RETURNED TO DEALERSHIP AND COMPLAINED. THEY PUT PIECE BACK ON. NOW, APPROXIMATELY TWO MONTHS LATER THE SAME PIECE FELL OFF AGAIN. IF THIS IS A RECALL, THE FIX IS WORSE THAN THE ORIGINAL !!!!!*AK
OUR 2002 JEEP LIBERTY LIMITED WITH LESS THAN 1500 MILES CAUGHT FIRE ON THE RIGHT SIDE AND PROCEEDED TO BURN COMPLETELY. MY 5 YEAR OLD SON WAS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. BY THE TIME WE SAW THE SMOKE AND FIRE, HE TRIED TO GET OUT BUT THE DOOR WAS TOO HOT TO OPEN. I GRABBED IM, OPENED THE DRIVERS DOOR AND RAN FOR SAFETY. WE WERE TURNING AROUND ON A GRAVEL ROAD AND HAD ENTERED SOME LITE MUD AND LITE, WET GRASS BESIDE THE GRAVEL ROAD AND WE WERE PULLING A BRAND NEW VERY LITE TRAILER WITH THREE SMALL DIRT BIKES ON IT. THE FIRE WAS SO HOT THAT THE NEW TRAILER HITCH MELTED AND WAS FUSED TO THE TRAILER NECK. MY 5 YEAR OLD SON'S BIKE WHICH WAS ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE TRAILER WAS BURNED AND MELTED TO THE FRAME. MY SON AND I WERE FORTUNATE TO GET OUT ALIVE.*AK
