I have a 2004 Jeep Liberty and while DRIVING AND MAKING TURNS, THE STEERING WHEEL MADE A LOUD GRINDING NOISE. THE NOISE WAS ALSO HEARD WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. I got woke up this morning with the alarm going off.. no one was around the Jeep.. I know this because I have security cameras.. my husband check the fuse box and inside they were water in the fuse box..which it rain last night and I don’t know how it is getting wet.. my lights are wanted to stay on. And when I turn the ignition off my Jeep off wants to continue running.. I have had it to several different mechanics and no one seems to know exactly what the problem is.. please help me fix this problem..

I PURCHASED MY 2004 JEEP LIBERTY IN 2009 WITH 16K MILES ON IT. IN 2010 I HAD TO HAVE THE PASSENGER'S SIDE WINDOW REGULATOR REPLACED AT $200. IN 2011 THE BACK DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW HAD THE SAME ISSUE, BUT NOW THE REPAIR WAS QUOTED AT BEING AT LEAST $400. IN LATE 2016 THE BACK PASSENGER WINDOW DID THE SAME THING. THIS WEEK MARCH 2017 THE DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT WINDOW HAS DONE THE SAME THING AND NO LONGER STAYS UP. ALL OF THESE HAVE HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING EITHER ON A CITY STREET OR HIGHWAY WHILE MOVING.

ANY PART OF THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE THAT WAS NOT METAL, WAS GONE... BURNT!! AS OF THIS TIME, IT IS STILL UNKNOWN TO ME WHAT CAUSED THE FIRE BUT CHRYSLER SENT AN INVESTIGATOR OUT TO VIEW THE VEHICLE AND SENT ME A LETTER STATING THEY WOULD NOT BE DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT. I BELIEVE IT WAS A WIRING PROBLEM AND HAVE NEVER HAD ANYONE WORK ON ANY OF THE WIRING SINCE I PURCHASED THE JEEP IN 2010. ON TUESDAY, AUGUST 25, 2015, I WAS ON MY WAY TO A WORKSHOP FOR MY JOB ON ROUTE 73 IN BERLIN, NEW JERSEY. I HAD STOPPED AT A LIGHT. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN, I PROCEEDED TO GO. THE CAR STALLED OUT ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE DASH BOARD BLINKED ON AND OFF AND THE CAR SHUT COMPLETELY OFF. THEN WHITE SMOKE CAME OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD. SO AS I WAS SITTING CONTEMPLATING WHAT TO DO NEXT. I LOOKED UP AND THE DRIVER IN THE CAR NEXT TO ME STARTED YELLING THAT THERE WAS FIRE UNDERNEATH THE CAR. I IMMEDIATELY EXITED THE CAR AND CROSSED THE STREET ON A BUSY HIGHWAY. WHEN I REACHED THE OTHER SIDE OF THE STREET. PITCH BLACK SMOKE ALONG WITH RED FLAMES BILLOWED OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD. AFIRE RESCUE TRUCK ARRIVE AND IMMEDIATELY USED A FIRE EXTINGUISHER TO DOUSE THE FIRE. THEN, THE FIRE TRUCKS AND POLICE CAME TO FOLLOW UP. THE FIREMAN LIFT THE HOOD UP AND ALLOWED ME TO VIEW THE DAMAGE. THE BATTERY ALONG WITH OTHER ITEMS ON THE ENGINE WAS MELTED LIKE CANDLE WAX. THE CAR WAS TOWED AWAY, HOWEVER AS THE CAR WAS PLACED ON THE FLATBED OF THE TRUCK, MY TRUCK STARTED SMOKING AND FLAMES WERE SHOOTING FROM UNDER THE CAR. CAR HAS BEEN DECLARED TOTALED. THAT WAS A VERY SAD DAY FOR ME.

MY HEADLIGHTS TURNED OFF FOR ABOUT 5-7 SECONDS BEFORE COMING BACK ON AGAIN. PASSENGER OPENED AND CLOSED DOOR JUST TO CHECK, DOOR THEN WOULD NO LONGER FULLY CLOSE. PULLED MANUAL LOCK TO SEE IF IT WAS STUCK, WHOLE PIECE CAME OUT. SMOKE STARTED POURING OUT OF HOLE AND DOOR METAL WAS VERY HOT TO THE TOUCH. REMOVED DOOR PANEL TO PUT OUT FIRE INSIDE. LOCK ACTUATOR MOTOR MELTED DOWN AND PARTS WERE SMOLDERING. DURING THIS PROCESS THE ELECTRONIC BACK GLASS POPPED OPEN AS WELL AND WILL NO LONGER LATCH EITHER. CHRYSLER RECALLED SOME 2004 LIBERTY'S FOR THESE MOTORS OVERHEATING AND SEIZING, WAS INFORMED THAT THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED AND THAT WE SHOULD HAVE 'MAINTAINED THE WIRING IN THE DOOR'. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON SEVEN SEPARATE OCCASIONS FOR THE IDENTICAL FAILURES. THE CONTACT HAD CONCERN OF THE SAFETY HAZARD INVOLVED. MY HUSBAND IS A MECHANIC. HE AND HIS EMPLOYER WERE TRYING TO MANEUVER A 2004 JEEP LIBERTY INTO THE WORK STALL FROM THE PARKING LOT. THE JEEP HAD A BROKEN BALL JOINT (A CONDITION THAT THEY LATER FOUND WAS UNDER RECALL NOTICE) AND WOULD NOT STEER, SO MY HUSBAND WAS GUIDING IT WITH A FLOOR JACK WHILE HIS BOSS WAS BEHIND THE WHEEL, BRAKING WHEN NECESSARY TO HELP CONTROL FORWARD MOMENTUM. THE VEHICLE WAS IDLING. THIS IS STANDARD PROCEDURE, ONE CARRIED OUT MANY TIMES BY BOTH MEN. BOTH MEN HAVE AT LEAST 25 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE EACH AS AUTO MECHANICS. THERE IS A LIP JUST AT THE DOOR OF THE SHOP TO PREVENT WATER FROM COMING IN, AND WHEN THE JEEP CAME TO THIS LIP, THE VEHICLE TIPPED SLIGHTLY, AND THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE TOUCHED THE GROUND. INSTANTLY, THE ENGINE REVVED AND THE VEHICLE JUMPED FORWARD AT FULL POWER. THE BOSS LITERALLY STOOD AS HARD AS HE COULD ON THE BRAKE BUT TO NO EFFECT. THE VEHICLE LEFT A LONG BLACK SKID LINE BEHIND IT WHERE THE BACK TIRES WERE TRYING TO BRAKE, BUT THE FRONT TIRES WERE CONTINUING TO ACCELERATE. MY HUSBAND WAS HIT AND DRAGGED FIFTEEN FEET THEN CRUSHED AGAINST AN UPRIGHT SUPPORT. ACCORDING TO BOTH MECHANICS, THE FRONT WHEELS SHOULD NOT HAVE HAD POWER TO THEM, SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT IN FOUR-WHEEL DRIVE AND CANNOT PUT ITSELF INTO FOUR-WHEEL DRIVE: A LEVER MUST BE RAISED MANUALLY. MY HUSBAND HAD TO BE LIFE FLIGHTED TO EMMANUEL HOSPITAL WHERE HE WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A COLLAPSED LUNG, BROKEN NOSE, BROKEN COLLARBONE, NINE BROKEN RIBS, AND A BROKEN ANKLE. HE ALSO SUFFERED GENERAL CRUSHING OF MOST OF HIS BODY. A BROKEN LEFT RIB WAS DIAGNOSED TWO WEEKS LATER. ONE NIGHT WE WERE SITTING IN CAR TRYING TO GET IT TO START. THE JEEP WOULDN'T START AND WITHIN SECONDS SMOKE WAS COMING OUT FROM THE TOP OF THE HOOD. THERE WAS 3 ADULTS IN THE JEEP AND 2 CHILDREN. WE ALL GOT OUT AND WITHIN A MINUTE THERE WAS FLAMES DROPPING FROM THE BOTTOM, THEN WITHIN THE NEXT FEW SECONDS FLAMES WERE COMING UP OVER THE HOOD. THE WIPER ARM WAS REALIGNED TO FACTORY SPECS AND TIGHTENED TO THE CORRECT TORQUE SETTING. WHEN THE CONSUMER USED THE TURN SIGNALS WHILE THE HEADLIGHTS WERE ON THE HEADLIGHTS FLICKERED. I WENT TO THE GARAGE TO INVESTIGATE AND SAW WHITE SMOKE. AFTER OPENING THE GARAGE DOOR TO DISSIPATE THE SMOKE I LOOKED AROUND THE CAR. I DID NOT SEE ANY PROBLEM WITH THE TIRES OR LEAKING FLUIDS. I DID SEE BLACK SINGE MARKS ALONG THE EDGE OF THE HOOD AND BLACK DUST OVER THE HOOD. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT & SHERIFF WERE CALLED. THE FIREMEN DETERMINED THAT A FIRE OCCURRED UNDER THE HOOD OF THE CAR AND, MIRACULOUSLY, PUT ITSELF OUT. THEY ALSO DETERMINED THAT A LOOSE WIRE WAS ARCING WITH THE ALTERNATOR AND DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY. THEY RULED THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE AS FAULTY ELECTRICAL WIRING. THE CAR IS 3.5 MONTHS OLD WITH JUST UNDER 3000 MILES ON IT. MY BROTHER-IN-LAW, WHO IS A RETIRED MECHANIC, WENT WITH ME TO THE DEALERSHIP TO PICK UP MY THINGS FROM THE CAR AND GET A LOANER CAR. HE COULD SEE THAT THE LINE GOING FROM THE COMPRESSOR RUPTURED DURING THE FIRE. HE SPECULATED THAT THE "WHOOSH" SOUND I HEARD WAS AC REFRIGERATION ESCAPING WHEN THE LINE RUPTURED AND THAT THE FLUIDS EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. I AM WAITING FOR AN INSPECTOR FROM CHRYSLER TO LOOK AT THE CAR. I HAVE AN INCIDENT FILE OPEN WITH CHRYSLER, #12193081. I ALSO HAVE THE REPORT FROM SHERIFF. SINCE THIS JUST HAPPENED, NO RESOLUTION HAS BEEN DETERMINED. *LA

WHILE DRIVING AT 25 MPH, THE DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG DEPLOYED FOR NO LOGICAL REASON. THE CONSUMER LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND COLLIDED WITH AN EMBANKMENT. THE VEHICLE NEVER RAN OVER ANYTHING OR HIT ANYTHING BEFORE THE MISHAP. THE CONSUMER SUFFERED A SPRAINED WRIST, A CONCUSSION AND TRAUMA TO HIS BACK. THE CONSUMER ALSO REPORTED THAT BEFORE THE AIR BAG DEPLOYED, THAT ELECTRICAL CURRENTS FROM THE STEERING WHEEL WERE SHOCKING WHO EVER DROVE THE VEHICLE. THIS ELECTRICAL SHOCK HAS HAPPENED ON THREE DIFFERENT OCCASIONS AND THE DEALER HAS TRIED TO FIND THE SOURCE.
