THE CONTACT ARRIVED AT HER HOUSE AND NOTICED THAT THE REAR DRIVER SIDE WINDOW WAS DOWN. THE WINDOW MOTOR WOULD NOT BRING THE WINDOW BACK UP. I HAD IT FIXED BY MEANS OF HAVING A 2 BY 4 PLACED UNDER THE WINDOW BECAUSE I COULD NOT AFFORD A SHOP. NOW, BACK HERE AT THE END OF OCTOBER, MY BACK PASSENGER WINDOW HAS DROPPED IN AND I NOW HAVE IT BOARDED UP. *TR
IN DECEMBER, 2011, THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW OF MY JEEP LIBERTY FELL SUDDENLY WHILE I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE. THE SUDDEN AND UNEXPECTED OCCURRENCE NEARLY CAUSED ME TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE CAR. I FELT FORTUNATE THAT I WAS DRIVING WHEN THIS HAPPENED AND NOT ONE OF MY CHILDREN. IN THE SPRING OF 2012, AFTER DRIVING AROUND WITH TAPED UP WINDOWS FOR FOUR MONTHS, I TOOK THE CAR TO A JEEP DEALER. THE REPAIR COST ME $850.00. THIS PAST SPRING, THE SAME THING HAPPENED WITH THE WINDOW ON THE RIGHT PASSENGER SIDE. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING WITH DOOR STOPPERS SHOVED INTO THE WINDOW TO HOLD IT UP. HOPE I DON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT A GRANDCHILD FALLING OUT! I HAVE BEEN RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE ON THE INTERNET AND THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS VERY ISSUE! THE PROBLEM APPEARS TO BE A CHEAP PLASTIC PART IN THE WINDOW MECHANISM. WITHIN SIX MONTHS, THE REMAINING THREE WINDOWS REGULATORS HAVE FAILED AND ALL WINDOWS ARE NOW HELD IN PLACE WITH A PLASTIC ZIP TIE DUE TO THE HIGH COST OF REPAIR/REPLACEMENT AND CHRYSLER'S REFUSAL TO ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR FAULTY DESIGN OR BELOW STANDARD EQUIPMENT. BEING UNABLE TO OPEN THE VEHICLE'S WINDOWS IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY HAZARD FOR SEVERAL REASONS. CERTAINLY DO NOT WANT TO BE PULLED OVER AND NOT COMPLY WITH AN OFFICER'S REQUEST TO ROLL THE WINDOW DOWN - AND IF YOU OPEN THE DOOR INSTEAD OF ROLLING THE WINDOW DOWN - THAT WILL BE PERCEIVED AS A THREAT TO THE OFFICER AND ONLY LEAD TO A BAD SITUATION. VERY FRUSTRATED AND DISAPPOINTED WITH CHRYSLER AND HOW THEY ARE HANDLING A KNOWN ISSUE. AFTER SPEAKING WITH SEVERAL EMPLOYEES AND MANAGER AT THE CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP. THEY HAVE TOLD ME THAT CHRYSLER IS AWARE OF THE DEFECT BUT THEY ARE UNABLE TO REPAIR THE FAILED WINDOW REGULATORS AT NO COST TO ME. WELL THIS TIME, MY DAD PLACED A 2 BY 4 TO HOLD IT IN PLACE. AND NOW ONLY ABOUT 2 MONTHS LATER MARCH 28, 2013 MY BACK PASSENGER WINDOW HAS SUFFERED THE SAME FAITH. BACK ON FEBRUARY 5, 2013 I TOOK MY CAR INTO THE CHRYSLER DEALER BECAUSE THEY CONTACTED ME ABOUT A RECALL, AND AT THIS TIME I EXPLAINED MY INCIDENT TO THEM; THEY STATED THEY HAD MAYBE A FEW CONCERNS ABOUT THE WINDOW REGULATOR, BUT THAT IT WASN'T ENOUGH TO RAISE AN EYEBROW ABOUT. I BOUGHT PART NUMBER 68059645-AB REGULATOR 23039005 FOR $182.00. SINCE THEN THE PASSENGERS' SIDE WINDOWS HAVE ALSO FAILED. ON 9/28/2012, THE BACK LEFT WINDOW REGULATOR FAILED AGAIN. I MIGHT ACCEPT 1 WINDOW REGULATOR FAILING BUT NOT 4 OR 5, IF YOU COUNT A SECOND FAILURE. WHAT GETS ME IS THE FACT THAT THE BACK WINDOWS DO NOT GET A GREAT DEAL OF USE. I'VE PURCHASED ONE FOR ALL THE WINDOWS AND AM INSTALLING THEM AS NEEDED. WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WOULD THINK THAT LITTLE PIECE OF PLASTIC IS GOING TO WITHSTAND THE TEST OF TIME? THIS WAS A VERY VERY POOR ENGINEERING SOLUTION. A SOFT MATERIAL LIKE THAT SHOULD NOT BE PUT UNDER CONSTANT STRAIN OF PULL AND WEIGHT. THIS IS TRULY A FAUX PAS ON CHRYSLERS' BEHALF. THEN YESTERDAY I GOT INTO MY CAR AND SURE ENOUGH THE WINDOW WAS DOWN, WHEN I TRIED TO ROLL IT UP AND NOTHING HAPPENED I IMMEDIATELY CALLED THE DEALERSHIP. THEY SET ME UP WITH AN APPOINTMENT FOR THIS MORNING. THEY SAID IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME AND CHRYSLER IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM, BUT IS NOT DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT, RATHER THEY ARE MAKING MORE MONEY OFF OF THE CUSTOMERS IN THE REPAIRS. THE REAR DRIVER WINDOW HAS FAILED ON 3 SEPARATE OCCASIONS, EACH TIME, WITHIN LESS THAN A YEAR OF HAVING THE REGULATOR REPLACED AT A JEEP AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP. THE SERVICE MANAGER AT MY JEEP DEALERSHIP HAS ADMITTED TO ME THAT IT IS A FAULTY PART AND THAT THE RIGHT THING WOULD BE IF CHRYSLER WERE TO ISSUE A RECALL FOR THE PARTS. *TR
MY 2004 JEEP LIBERTY HAS HAD THE SAME BROKEN WINDOW THREE SEPARATE TIMES. THE REGULATOR INSIDE THE WINDOW MOTOR IS POORLY DESIGNED AND SNAPS. I HAVE JUST READ HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET ABOUT THIS AND SEVERAL OTHER PEOPLE SAID THEY FILED A COMPLAINT AS WELL. THE THIRD WEEK OF OCTOBER, 2009, THE REAR DRIVER SIDE WINDOW FELL DOWN A FEW INCHES AND WOULDN'T GO UP OR DOWN. THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW WOULD NOT GO UP OR DOWN. WHILE RECENTLY DRIVING MY 2004 JEEP LIBERTY, MY 10-YEAR OLD DAUGHTER IN THE BACKSEAT BEGAN TO LOWER THE REAR WINDOW USING THE POWER WINDOW BUTTON. AT A CERTAIN POINT, I HEARD A LOUD GRINDING NOISE. UPON STOPPING, I NOTED THAT THE WINDOW HAD FAILED IN THE LOWERED POSITION AND WOULD NOT MOVE WITH FURTHER MANIPULATION OF THE POWER WINDOW BUTTON. HOWEVER, I ALSO NOTED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN AND WAS JAMMED SHUT. I WAS UNABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR FROM EITHER THE INSIDE OR OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. UPON TAKING THE VEHICLE HOME AND REMOVING THE DOOR PANEL, I NOTED THAT THE WINDOW REGULATOR ' A PLASTIC PIECE ' HAD FAILED. AT THIS POINT, I WAS STILL UNABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR. I THEN REMOVED THE POWER WINDOW MOTOR AND ACCOMPANYING ASSEMBLY. WITH THIS ACTION, I NOTED THAT THE SCREW CABLE, IN ABSENCE OF THE PLASTIC REGULATOR PIECE, HAD RUN ITS ENTIRE LENGTH UP INTO THE REAR PORTION OF THE DOOR BEHIND THE LOCKING MECHANISM. WITH THE SCREW CABLE LODGED BEHIND THE LOCKING MECHANISM, THE DOOR WAS JAMMED AND WOULD NOT OPEN WITH ANY NORMAL FORCE. A SIMPLE SEARCH ON THE INTERNET RESULTS IN NUMEROUS DISCUSSIONS OF PROBLEMS WITH THE WINDOW REGULATOR FAILING DUE TO THE PLASTIC DESIGN. IT IS IN MY OPINION THAT SUCH A FAILURE IS HAZARDOUS AS IT MAY RENDER THE OCCUPANT UNABLE TO EGRESS THE VEHICLE IN AN EMERGENCY. ALTHOUGH THE PROBABILITY OF A CRASH COUPLED WITH A REGULATOR FAILURE IS LOW, A SIMPLE FIX IS INEXPENSIVE IN COMPARISON SUCH AS OFFERING A REPLACEMENT REGULATOR PIECE MADE OF A MATERIAL MORE RESISTANT TO FATIGUE AND/OR RE-ROUTE THE TUBING THAT HOUSES THE SCREW CABLE SUCH THAT FAILURE OF THE REGULATOR WILL NOT ALLOW THE SCREW CABLE TO RUN BEHIND THE LOCKING MECHANISM. I HAVE SINCE DISCONNECTED THE ELECTRICAL LEAD TO THE POWER WINDOW MOTOR AND TIE-WRAPPED THE WINDOW IN THE CLOSED POSITION PENDING A SUITABLE FIX TO THE REGULATOR. *TR

I ALSO CONTACTED THE CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY AGREED TO COMPENSATE HALF OF THE TOTAL BILL OF $304.57. THEY COMPENSATED $154.57. ABOUT A MONTH LATER, NOVEMBER 23, 2007 I HAD THE EXACT EVENT HAPPEN ONLY IT WAS THE DRIVER WINDOW THAT HAD SLID DOWN. I REPEATED MY VISIT TO THE DEALER AND CALLED CHRYSLER TO ASK FOR THEIR ASSISTANCE. THEY AGREED THIS TIME TO PAY FOR THE LABOR OF $147.00. I WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR $162.89. I NOW HAVE A THIRD WINDOW WITH THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM THAT I DISCOVERED YESTERDAY, JANUARY 31, 2008. I CALLED CHRYSLER AND EXPRESSED MY CONCERNS WITH THESE NUMEROUS EVENTS AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY COULD NOT ASSIST ME THIS TIME AS THIS IS THE THIRD EVENT. ALTHOUGH THE CHRYSLER CORPORATION AND THE DEALER ARE BOTH AWARE OF THE NUMEROUS REPLACEMENTS THAT HAVE BEEN DONE FOR NOT ONLY ME BUT FOR MANY PEOPLE WHO OWN THE 2004 JEEP LIBERTY, THEY ARE NOT WILLING TO ASSIST ME IN ANY COMPENSATION FOR THE THIRD INSTANCE OR SEEM TO HAVE CONCERN FOR THE SAFETY OF THEIR CUSTOMERS. TODAY, WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD GRINDING SOUND FOLLOWED BY THE VEHICLE'S FAILURE TO MOVE FORWARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER, BUT HAS NOT BEEN INSPECTED. UPON VISUAL INSPECTION, THE CONTACT NOTICED THE LOWER BALL JOINT WAS SEPARATED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. UPDATED 7/3/2006 - THE DRIVER'S SIDE WINDSHIELD WIPER ARM CAME LOOSE TWICE. THE WIPER ARM WAS REALIGNED TO FACTORY SPECS AND TIGHTENED TO THE CORRECT TORQUE SETTING. WHEN THE CONSUMER USED THE TURN SIGNALS WHILE THE HEADLIGHTS WERE ON THE HEADLIGHTS FLICKERED. THIS IS AN INTERMITTENT OCCURRENCE. ON ANOTHER OCCASIONS THE HEADLIGHTS REMAINED ON ALTHOUGH THE SWITCH WAS TURNED OFF. *NM
