I have a 2005 Jeep liberty renegade, there was recall issued (N46 Trailer Hitch recall) I contacted Chrysler Customer Care. they sent me this, [XXX] Hello [XXX] Thank you for contacting Jeep Customer Care. We have received your email stating you are about to purchase this 2005 Jeep Liberty and understand your concern with a recall that has not been completed. We are happy to look into this for you. After review of the vehicle information we have found that the N46 Trailer Hitch recall has not been completed. Jeep attempts to perform recall repairs regardless of the vehicle age or the recall issue date. Any authorized dealership will be happy to repair the vehicle within the terms of the recall at no charge to you. Please contact us at [XXX] if you require additional assistance. FRONT LOWER BALL JOINT ON RIGHT SIDE HAS FELL OUT TWICE, 8 MONTHS APART. BOTH TIMES THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION, GOING LESS THE 20 MPH. ROAD CONDITIONS WERE DRY, AND ON ON REGULAR PAVED ROAD. I WAS DRIVING STRAIGHT ON THE ROAD BOTH TIMES. THE FIRST TIME IT BROKE, IT CAUSE MY WHEEL TO BREAK AND FLATTER MY TIRE, SECOND TIME IT DAMAGED MY WHEEL BUT DIDN'T NOT BUST THROUGH IT. MOTOR MOUNTS HAVE BROKE 2 TIMES AS WEEK 1 WEEK AFTER REPAIRED IT BROKE THE 2ND TIME. TRANSMISSION MOUNT HAS ALSO BROKE.

THE STEERING GOT HARD AND FELT LIKE THE BALL JOINT ON THE CONTROL ARMS LOCK UP ; THE DOOR LOCKS CYCLE CONTINUOUSLY AND NOW DRIVER DOOR, LEFT REAR PASSENGER DOOR AND BACK TAILGATE WILL NOT OPEN, HORN WILL NOT BLOW, RADIO WILL NOT WORK, AND INTERIOR LIGHTS WON'T WORK. THE STEERING PROBLEMS HAPPEN WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAYS AND WHEN MAKING TURNS OF ANY KIND THE SLIGHTEST MOVEMENT OF THE STEERING WHEEL WILL CAR IS MOVING MAKES ERRATIC NAVIGATION IN ANYTHING OTHER THAN A STRAIGHT PATH. THE DOOR LOCKS CYCLE ON AND OFF WHILE DRIVING AND ALSO NOT MOVING AND WITHOUT THE CAR BEING STARTED AND IS AS REST WITHOUT KEY INSERTED IN THE IGNITION CYLINDER. I AM FEARFUL FOR MY GRAND CHILDREN TO RIDE IN THE CAR WITH ME AND VERY CONCERNED OF A FAILURE THAT MAY JEOPARDIZE THEIR SAFETY.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND WAS NOT ABLE TO CONFIRM WHEN THE PARTS WERE TO BECOME AVAILABLE. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE VEHICLE VIBRATED. THIS VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED NEW AND HAS LESS THAN 140,000 MILES. #1-IT HAS CORROSION ON THE OUTER BODY PANELS THAT IS STARTING TO GO INTO THE FRAME. THE CORROSION HAS CAUSED NUMEROUS CUTS, SCRAPES AND DAMAGED CLOTHING AS YOU GET IN AND OUT OF THE VEHICLE. #2- I STARTED SMELLING ANTIFREEZE BUT YOU COULDN'T SEE ANY LEAKS UNLESS IT WAS PARKED DOWNHILL SO I TOOK IT TO THE SHOP FOR DIAGNOSIS. AFTER SEVERAL TEST THEY FOUND IT TO BE THE HEAD GASKET. #3- I ALSO HAVE ISSUES WITH THE DRIVERS SIDE SEAT BELT STAYING LATCHED. YOU CAN BE DRIVING ALONG AND IT WILL JUST RELEASE AND IT TAKES AWHILE TO GET IT TO LATCH BACK. #4-IT WOULDN'T LET ME SELECT THE OPTION TO TALK ABOUT THE WINDOW REGULATORS THAT JUST ALL OF A SUDDEN DECIDE TO WORK BY THEMSELVES. I'VE HAD SEVERAL PEOPLE DISCUSS THESE ISSUES WITH ME AND I'D NOT SEEN ANY ISSUES UNTIL LATELY, REGARDLESS OF HOW SIGNIFICANT ANYONE THINKS THESE ISSUES ARE I'VE WORKED IN THE AUTO INDUSTRY LONG ENOUGH TO KNOW THAT THE MAKER SHOULD STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT REGARDLESS OF THE SIGNIFICANCE OR AGE OF VEHICLE.

WE RECEIVED THE NOTICE ABOUT THE GAS/FUEL TANK POTENTIAL TO CATCH FIRE, WE TOOK OUR VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER EXPLAINED THAT WE HAVE TOO MUCH CORROSION ON OUR VEHICLE TO BE REPAIRED. THE COST TO REPAIR EXCEEDS THE VALUE OF THE VEHICLE, CURRENTLY WE ARE STILL DRIVING WITH A VEHICLE THAT MAY CATCH FIRE. WE CONTACTED CHRYSLER AS WE STILL ARE PAYING OFF THE VEHICLE, WE WHERE GIVEN THE RUN AROUND UNTIL FINALLY ONE ASSOCIATE TOLD US SIMPLY, THEY WILL NOT HELP YOU. PRIOR TO THIS RECALL NOTICE WE HAVE CONSTANTLY HAD ISSUES WHEN FILLING UP WITH GAS AND THE GAS WOULD LEAK OUT IN LARGE QUANTITIES INSTEAD OF SHUTTING OFF. WE REPLACED THE OIL PAN RECENTLY AFTER IT RUSTED OUT, WE ARE ABOUT TO REPLACE TO TRANSMISSION FLUID PAN AS THAT IS ABOUT TO RUST OUT, THE TRANSMISSION LINES ARE ALSO RUSTING AND CORRODED. OUR JEEP MAY BE AN 05 BUT IT LOOKS AS IF ITS BRAND NEW ROLLING OFF THE LINE, WE TAKE CARE OF OUR VEHICLE. WE ARE INFORMED CONSUMERS AND KNOW THERE IS A RECALL FOR CHRYSLER FAILING TO FIX THE FUEL TANK EXPLOSION ISSUES, WHEN WE LOOKED UP THE VIN FOR OUR VEHICLE IT WAS NOT SHOWING THAT IT IS ONE OF THE ONE'S BEING RECALLED. OUR VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND WE SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL. WE WANT TO KNOW IF OUR VEHICLE WILL BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. WE STILL HAVE ALL THE PAPERWORK FROM VISITING THE DEALER. DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE NEAR FORT WORTH THE LEFT REAR WINDOW JUST FELL DOWN THE DOOR. IT DISTRACTED ME AND I ALMOST CRASHED INTO A GUARDRAIL BECAUSE OF THE SUDDEN PRESSURE CHANGE IN THE CAR. I SORTA PANICKED SINCE THE BABY IN THE BACK SEAT BEGAN CRYING SINCE THE WINDOW WAS ON HER SIDE IN THE BACK SEAT. AFTER CONTACTING SEVERAL JEEP OWNERS, I HAVE FOUND OUT THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE WINDOWS ON JEEPS AND IT HAS ALREADY HAPPENED TO THE RIGHT SIDE WINDOW LAST YEAR. I USED A ZIP TIE TO KEEP THE WINDOW UP. I SAW A YOUTUBE VIDIO ON HOW TO DO THIS. SINCE THE RIGHT SIDE WINDOW HAS A ZIP TIE HOLDING IT UP I NO LONGER USE THAT WINDOW. I THINK THAT JEEP SHOULD CONSIDER RECALLING THIS PROBLEM SINCE EVENTUALLY SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET HURT BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM.

AS I WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING LOT I SUDDENLY HEARD A LOUD NOISE AND NOTICED MY BACK WHEELS ACTING STRANGE. I THOUGHT IT WAS A FLAT TIRE SO I PARKED AND CHECKED MY REAR TIRES. EVERYTHING LOOKED FINE SO I GOT WHAT I HAD COME FOR THEN GOT BACK ON THE ROAD. THE NOISE AND DIFFICULTY STEERING WERE STILL THERE THOUGH SO I PULLED OVER AGAIN AND LOOKED UNDER THE REAR TIRES. THE REAR CONTROL ARM ON THE DRIVERS SIDE HAS COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH AND BROKEN. I COULDN'T BELIEVE A CAR WITH LESS THAN 70,000 MILES ON IT COULD HAVE A PART COMPLETELY RUST THROUGH LIKE THAT SO I CHECKED ALL THE RECALLS ON THE LIBERTY MODEL. NOT SURPRISINGLY THERE WAS A RECALL DUE TO EXCESSIVE RUST ON THE VERY PART THAT HAD COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT ON MY VEHICLE. I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED OF THIS SAFETY RECALL THOUGH BECAUSE I DON'T LIVE IN ONE OF THE STATES WHERE THE RECALL WAS ISSUED. THE STATES WHERE THE RECALL WAS ISSUED GET SNOW IN THE WINTER AND SALT IS USUALLY USED TO CLEAR THE STREETS. THAT IS WHY THESE STATES WERE IN THE RECALL. I LIVE IN NEBRASKA THOUGH, A STATE THAT GETS NEARLY AS MUCH SNOW AS IOWA, MISSOURI, AND MINNESOTA (THREE STATES THAT WERE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL) AND YET IF YOU LIVE IN MY STATE YOU ARE NOT INFORMED OF THE RECALL AND YOU DO NOT GET THE PARTS REPLACED. IF I HAD NOT BEEN PULLING INTO A PARKING LOT AT THE MOMENT THE REAR CONTROL ARM HAD RUSTED THROUGH AND BROKEN THE INCIDENT COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH WORSE. I COULD HAVE BEEN ON THE HIGHWAY OR A BUSY STREET AND EASILY LOST CONTROL OF MY VEHICLE. OVER TIME, THE AUTOMATIC SHUTOFF ON FUEL PUMPS AT GAS STATIONS BEGAN TO NOT SHUT OFF UNTIL AFTER A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF FUEL HAD SPILLED OUT (UP TO A HALF GALLON). AT FIRST, I THOUGHT IT MAY BE THE DESIGN OF DIFFERENT PUMPS, SO I EXPERIMENTED WITH DIFFERENT STATIONS. I FOUND THAT NO MATTER WHAT STYLE PUMP OR STATION I AM AT, THIS CONTINUES TO OCCUR. I HAVE HAD TO RESORT TO ESTIMATING HOW MUCH GASOLINE I NEED BASED ON MY GAGE PRIOR TO TURNING THE VEHICLE OFF. ANOTHER OPTION IS TO UNDERESTIMATE AND NEVER REALLY HAVE A FULL TANK. I HAVE FOUND THAT SEVERELY SLOWING THE PUMP DOWN TOWARD THE END OF WHAT I THINK IS THE AMOUNT OF GASOLINE I NEED FOR A FULL TANK WILL USUALLY (BUT NOT ALWAYS) GET THE PUMP TO SHUT OFF IN TIME PRIOR TO OVERFLOWING. ALTHOUGH I HAVE GOTTEN BETTER AT ESTIMATING, THERE ARE STILL TIMES THAT GASOLINE OVERFLOWS. ASIDE FROM A FIRE HAZARD ON THE VEHICLE AND ON THE GROUND AT THE PUMP, THE GASOLINE CAN CAUSE BODY DAMAGE OVER TIME. THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH ATTEMPTING TO "TOP OFF" THE TANK AFTER THE PUMP SHUTS OFF. THERE IS NO TOP OFF ROOM WITH THIS VEHICLE. I HAVE HAD OTHER VEHICLES THAT COULD TAKE AN EXTRA GALLON OR MORE AFTER THE AUTOMATIC SHUTOFF, BUT THIS ONE DOES NOT. AFTER LOOKING AT SEVERAL FORUMS AND OTHER ONLINE POSTS, I DISCOVERED THAT THERE ARE MANY OTHER OWNERS WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM. I CONTACTED CHRYSLER, LEFT MY INFORMATION WITH THEM TO BE PROCESSED, AND WAS TOLD I'D BE CALLED BACK. I WAS TRAVELING 70 MPH ON THE FREEWAY WHEN I VERY SLIGHTLY LET OFF THE ACCELERATOR AS I CAME OVER A BRIDGE. AT THAT POINT, PART OF THE JEEP WANTED TO GO STRAIGHT AND THE OTHER PART WANTED TO GO OFF THE ROAD. IT TRULY FELT LIKE THE JEEP WAS GOING TO ROLL. I SLOWED DOWN AND MANAGED TO KEEP IT GOING STRAIGHT UNTIL I COULD SAFELY PULL OFF THE FREEWAY. HAD IT TOWED TO MY DEALER WHO INFORMED ME THAT THE LEFT REAR LATERAL ARM CONNECTING AXLE TO THE FRAME RUSTED THROUGH AND BECAME DISCONNECTED. THEY ALSO SAID THAT THE RIGHT LATERAL ARM IS CLOSE TO RUSTING THOUGH AS WELL. ALTHOUGH THE LATERAL ARMS WERE ON BACKORDER FROM CHRYSLER, THE DEALER MANAGED TO FIND ONE FROM ANOTHER DEALER AND REPLACED THE LEFT ARM. AT APPROXIMATELY 0520 A.M. ON JANUARY 23, 2012 I WAS TRAVELING NORTH ON WEST VIRGINIA ROUTE 26 JUST OUTSIDE OF KINGWOOD, WEST VIRGINIA ON MY WAY TO WORK. I WAS DESCENDING A HILL AROUND SEVERAL SHARP TURNS AT A RATE OF SPEED APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH ON DRY BUMPY PAVEMENT. WITHOUT WARNING I FELT A VIBRATION WHICH SEEMED TO ORIGINATE IN THE REAR OF MY 2005 JEEP LIBERTY. SEVERAL SECONDS LATER A HARD THUMP WAS FELT UNDERNEATH THE FLOOR BOARDS ACCOMPANIED BY A METAL SCRAPING NOISE. I IMMEDIATELY BEGAN APPLYING THE BRAKES TO STOP THE CAR TO INVESTIGATE BUT BEFORE I COULD BRING THE VEHICLE TO A COMPLETE HALT THE REAR OF THE CAR BEGAN TO COME AROUND TOWARD THE FRONT OF THE SUV FROM THE RIGHT. ONCE I GOT THE CAR COMPLETELY STOPPED I PUT IT INTO PARK, APPLIED MY EMERGENCY BRAKE, TURNED ON MY HAZARD LIGHTS AND THEN GOT OUT TO INVESTIGATE THE SITUATION. AS I EXAMINED THE BACK OF THE VEHICLE I NOTICED THAT THE RIGHT REAR WHEEL WAS OUT OF ALIGNMENT ALMOST TOUCHING THE BACK OF THE WHEEL WELL. I THEN SHINED MY FLASHLIGHT UNDERNEATH OF THE CAR AND SAW THE FRONT END OF THE DRIVE SHAFT LYING ON THE STREET. I COASTED MY CAR INTO A NEARBY DRIVEWAY TO GET IT OFF OF THE STREET. I HAD MY VEHICLE TOWED TO THE NEAREST JEEP DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR. DIAGNOSIS: RIGHT HAND REAR CONTROL ARM FAILURE DUE TO EXCESSIVE EROSION/RUSTING. I HAD THE FAILED PART REPLACED AND AS A PRECAUTION I HAD THE LEFT HAND CONTROL ARM REPLACED AS WELL. BOTH OLD PARTS ARE AVAILABLE FOR INSPECTION. I PURCHASED MY JEEP NEW IN WISCONSIN IN 2005 AND I MOVED TO WEST VIRGINIA IN 2010. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP LIBERTY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PASSENGERS SIDE REAR WINDOWS AND DOORS WOULD NOT OPEN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE WINDOW REGULATOR WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. DT: THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP LIBERTY ROCKY MOUNTAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED ON AUGUST 25, 2005. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN OVER 45 MPH WITH THE REAR PASSENGER WINDOW ROLLED DOWN THERE WAS AN EXTREMELY LOUD ROARING SOUND THAT POUNDED THE PASSENGER'S EARS. HE DID NOT REALIZE THIS WHEN HE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE BECAUSE THEY DID NOT TEST DRIVE THE VEHICLE WITH THE WINDOWS DOWN. THE CONTACT CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP, AND THEY WERE AWARE OF THIS DESIGN. THE CONSUMER CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER AND THEY REFERRED HIM TO WRITE A LETTER OR E-MAIL THE COMPLAINT. THE CONSUMER REFUSED BECAUSE HE WANTED TO SPEAK WITH SOMEONE IN PERSON. *AK *JB
