TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 JEEP LIBERTY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW FELL INSIDE THE DOOR PANEL. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.

THE RADIATOR ON THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN REPLACED TIMES IN THE 8 YEARS I HAVE OWNED IT. IT HAS 7 RECALLS, THE WINDOW ON THE PASSENGER SIDE IS BROKEN, THE SENSORS IN THE ENGINE HAVE BEEN REPLACED TWICE. THE RADIATOR IS PLASTIC AND LOOKS LIKE SOMETHING OUT OF A BUBBLE GUM MACHINE. IT ALSO HAS A PLASTIC COOLING FAN, NOT METAL, WHICH ALSO BROKE. I HAVE PUT AS MUCH MONEY IN THIS VEHICLE AS I PAID FOR IT. THE BRAKES ARE HORRID AND GO OUT CONSTANTLY. I ONLY HAVE A 5 MILE COMMUTE TO WORK. THE VEHICLE IS SERVICED ON A REGULAR BASIS. IT IS A HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT. I GOT THIS VEHICLE BECAUSE WE HAD OWNED SEVERAL JEEPS AND LIKED THEM. THIS VEHICLE IS ALWAYS BREAKING DOWN. THE FAN DOESN'T WORK ON THE HEATER EXCEPT ON HIGH. THE ALTERNATOR HAS BEEN REPLACED TWICE. THE EXHAUST HAS BEEN REPLACED TWICE. I WOULD NEVER BUY A JEEP PRODUCT AGAIN AFTER THIS. *TR

THE WINDOW REGULATOR (POWER WINDOWS) DECIDED TO NO LONGER HOLD UP THE WINDOW (IT RARELY GETS USED). WAS PARTIALLY DOWN SO I WENT TO OPEN THE REAR DRIVERS SIDE DOOR AND IT WOULD NOT OPEN. I WANTED TO PROP THE WINDOW UP WHICH I WAS ABLE TO DO WITH A SUCTION CUP. I HAVE READ MANY MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS HAPPENING ON THESE VEHICLES. SEEMS LIKE A PROBLEM THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD HAVE TO REPAIR VIA RECALL. *TR

I THINK THIS SHOULD NOT BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE CONSUMER. SOMETHING IS OBVIOUSLY NOT WORKING IF THIS HAS TO BE REPLACED MULTIPLE TIMES. *TR

THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THE VEHICLE DIAGNOSED WHERE THE DEALER STATED THAT THE REGULATOR CLIP WAS FRACTURED. THE REGULATOR CLIP WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURE WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.

THE TEST RESULTS CONFIRMED A DEFECTIVE REGULATOR. THE DEALER REPLACED BOTH REGULATORS BUT THE REPAIR DID NOT REMEDY THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 32,000.

POWER WINDOW REGULATOR DEFECTIVE. THIS PLASTIC REGULATOR BREAKS AND THE WINDOW DROPS DOWN. THIS IS A PLASTIC PART THAT HAS HAD NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS. CHRYSLER HAS EVEN OFFERED EXTENDED WARRANTIES ON SELECT MODEL YEARS ON THIS PART, YET HAS NOT ACKNOWLEDGED IT AS A DEFECTIVE PART THAT COST CONSUMERS HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS TO REPLACE AS EACH REGULATOR GOES OUT ONE BY ONE ON YOUR VEHICLE. THIS PART NEEDS TO BE REPLACED WITH A METAL REGULATOR. THE AVERAGE COST TO REPLACE THIS PART IS $300-$500 EACH TIME IT FAILS! *JS

WHEN THE WINDOW DROPS DOWN WITHOUT WARNING THE GLASS CAN BREAK AND INJURE SOMEONE. ITEMS CAN BE TOSSED INTO THE CAR SUCH AS STONES OR DEBRIS FROM OTHER DRIVERS. PEOPLE CAN ENTER YOUR CAR AND ATTACK YOU OR KILL YOU SINCE THE CAR CANNOT BE LOCKED. YOU CANNOT LEAVE ITEMS IN YOUR CAR BECAUSE IT IS NEVER SECURE. I HAVE ALSO TOLD SEVERAL FEDERAL GOVERNMENT AGENCIES INCLUDING NHTSA BUT AGAIN NO ONE CARES ABOUT THE AMERICAN CITIZEN. THE ONES WHO PAY THE BILLS. WHEN IT FAILS THE WINDOW SLIDES DOWN WITHOUT ANY WARNING SO YOUR CAR BECOMES UNSAFE AND YOU ARE UNABLE TO LOCK IT OR SECURE THE CAR. THE GLASS CAN SLIDE DOWN IN THE DOOR OR BREAK IN THE DOOR. THEN YOU TAKE IT TO THE DEALER AND HE CHARGES YOU $400 TO FIX A KNOWN DEFECTIVE. CHRYSLER AND THE DEALERS LOVE IT. YOU MAKE MONEY WHEN YOU SELL A CAR WITH A DEFECT AND THEN CHARGE THE PERSON EVERYTIME THE DEFECT FAILS. IT IS A WIN WIN FOR CHRYSLER AND ITS DEALERS. THE PUBLIC IS GETTING THE SHAFT. IMAGINE NOT GOING CERTAIN PLACES BECAUSE YOU ARE AFRAID YOUR CAR IS NOT SAFE TO TAKE THERE OR NOT GOING OVER NIGHT BECAUSE OF YOUR CAR. SIX MONTHS LATER THE PASSENGER REAR REGULATOR FAILED AND THE WINDOW DROPPED IN THE DOOR. THIS TIME IT DID NOT BREAK THE GLASS. JUST A MONTH AFTER THE WARRANTY ON THE DRIVER REAR EXPIRED, IT FAILED AGAIN. NOW I HAVE NO WORKING BACK WINDOWS. THE SERVICE MANAGER AT THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP ACKNOWLEDGED THIS AS AN ISSUE BUT STATED THERE IS NO RECALL. HE RECOMMENDED THAT I TAKE IT UP WITH CHRYSLER. THEY CLAIM IT THE PROBLEM EXISTS BUT NOT WITH THIS YEAR. THEY TOLD ME BECAUSE I DID NOT BUY IT NEW NOR USE THE DEALERSHIP FOR MY SERVICE THEY WOULD NOT HELP. WITH THE GLASS BREAKING THIS IS MORE THAN AN INCONVENIENCE, IT IS DANGEROUS. ON 12-16-09, RIGHT FRONT WINDOW REGULATOR BROKE AND WINDOW DROPPED INTO DOOR PANEL. STILL NO RECALL. PER SERVICE ADVISOR JEEP NOW USING A DIFFERENT "FIX"" AND REPLACED REGULATOR SHOULD NOT HAVE SAME PROBLEM. REPAIR COST $381.00. ON 11-03-10, LEFT REAR WINDOW REGULATOR (PREVIOUSLY REPLACED IN 03-08) BROKE AGAIN. WINDOW HAD NOT EVEN BEEN USED DOZEN TIMES SINCE PREVIOUSLY REPLACED. FILED COMPLAINT WITH JEEP. ALSO RESEARCHED AND SAW MANY JEEP OWNERS HAVING SAME REPETITIVE PROBLEM. WAS ADVISED BY CHRYSLER CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE CENTER THAT IT WAS A VENDOR ISSUE AND NO RECALL IN EFFECT. AFTER BATTLE WITH CHRYSLER, THEY FINALLY AGREED TO REIMBURSE ME 100% FOR 3RD WINDOW AND THE COST OF THE 2 PRIOR REPAIRS MINUS $100.00 DEDUCTIBLE. THEY REIMBURSED ME $606.00. *TR
THE WINDOWS HAVE FALLEN INTO MY DOOR WELL BECAUSE, AS I'M TOLD BY JEEP SERVICE ADVISORS, BECAUSE OF DEFECTIVE PLASTIC CLIPS INSTALLED ON THEIR WINDOW ASSEMBLIES. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM SINCE I'VE OWNED THIS JEEP AND I CONSIDER IT TO BE A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE I LIVE IN THE HEART OF CARJACKINGS, THEFTS, & CRIME IN GENERAL, AND CANNOT LOCK MY CAR BECAUSE I HAVE NO WINDOWS. (I AM ALSO ELDERLY, FEMALE & CONSIDER MYSELF TO MORE VULNERABLE TO CRIME CHRYSLER HAS AGREED TO REIMBURSE ME, BUT THEN RE-ENGAGED, AND WOULD RATHER HAVE A "CAT FIGHT" THAN TO STEP UP PLATE & PAY FOR THE PROBLEM THEY HAVE CREATED FOR THE CONSUMER! MANY JEEP OWNERS, LIKE MYSELF HAVE HAD THEIR WINDOW FALL MORE THAN 10 TIMES @ $400.00 PER FIX = $4,000 X 10 MILLION SOLD (APPROX.) = $40,000,000. STAGGERING AND INTENTIONAL PROFITS WHEN THE HAVE CREATED INTENTIONAL DEFECTS TO PASS ON TO THE CONSUMER! CHRYSLER HAS BULLIED ME AND THEIR GREED HAS CAUSED ME MUCH STRESS AND UNNECESSARY EXPENSE DUE TO THE FACT THAT I AM ON LIMITED INCOME AND CANNOT SUSTAIN THIS EXPENSE. I WILL NEVER OWN ANOTHER JEEP SIMPLY BECAUSE OF CHRYSLER'S APATHY, LACK OF FAIRNESS TO THE FOUNDATION WHO BUILT THEIR LOUSY CORP - THE AMERICANS! THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER APPROXIMATELY FIVE TIMES FOR REPAIRS TO THE REAR DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW REGULATORS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND A COMPLAINT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 31,587.

HE TOLD ME IT WAS COMMON IN JEEPS. WHILE AT THE MECHANIC'S, ANOTHER CUSTOMER SAID HER FATHER'S JEEP HAD DONE THE SAME THING. THE MECHANIC TOLD ME TO BE GLAD THAT MY WINDOW DID NOT BREAK. I WAS CHARGED TO REPLACE THE REGULATOR $300. I HAVE NO CHILDREN AND MY BACK WINDOW IS NEVER USED. TOO MANY PEOPLE HAVE SPENT HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS FOR THIS REPAIR. THIS IS DEFINITELY AN INFERIOR PRODUCT AND SHOULD BE RECALLED. CUSTOMERS SHOULD NOT BE EXPECTED TO PAY FOR THIS REPAIR. SINCE WE BOUGHT THE LIBERTY WE HAVE HAD A TOTAL OF 12 INCIDENTS WHERE THE WINDOWS HAVE FALLEN DOWN AND LEFT THE VEHICLE VULNERABLE TO THE ELEMENTS AND ON TWO OCCASIONS PERSONAL PROPERTY HAS BEEN TAKEN FROM INSIDE THE VEHICLE IN SHOPPING CENTER PARKING LOTS. CHRYSLER SOLD US AN EXTENDED WARRANTY WHICH WILL COVER THE REPAIRS BUT THERE IS A $100 DEDUCTIBLE EVERY TIME THE VEHICLE GOES IN. JEEP MAKES A JOKE OUT OF IT WHEN THEY SEE ME COME IN BY SAYING "WHAT, ANOTHER WINDOW ?" AND THEN LAUGHING AND SAYING THIS IS GETTING TO BE A ROUTINE, THIS IS TRUE AND I KNOW ALL OF THE PEOPLE THERE BECAUSE I SOLD CHRYSLER/ JEEP / DODGE FOR 5 YEARS SO I JUST LAUGH WITH THEM BUT IT REALLY MAKES ME MAD THAT JEEP WON'T FIX AN ISSUE THAT IS SO OBVIOUS AND SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE PROBLEMS WITH. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE SINCE MY WIFE DRIVES THIS CAR TO WORK AND WHEN SHE GOES TO THE CAR AFTER WORK SHE HAS TO CHECK AND SEE IF ANYONE IS INSIDE THE VEHICLE BEFORE SHE GETS IN AND WHEN SHE IS DRIVING THE CAR ON THE FREEWAY IF THE WINDOW FALLS DOWN IT STARTLES HER AND SHE HAS ALMOST HAD AN ACCIDENT TWICE OVER THE FRONT WINDOWS FALLING. I NOW HAVE TWO WINDOWS BEING HELD UP BY COAT HANGERS STUFFED IN THE WINDOW TRACK SO THE INSIDE DOESN'T GET WET OR THE CAR SIT OUTSIDE WITH WINDOWS WIDE OPEN. SOMEONE NEEDS TO NIP THIS IN THE BUD AND GET THE CHRYSLER CORPORATION TO STEP UP AND FIX THESE VEHICLES BEFORE THEY HURT SOMEONE. *KB

THE REAR WINDOW ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE FELL DOWN FOR NO REASON. I PRESSED THE SWITCH IT DID NOT MOVE. I PULLED IT UP BY HAND BUT IT WOULD FALL RIGHT DOWN. I TOOK IT TO THE JEEP DEALER THINKING IT WOULD BE UNDER WARRANTY BUT THEY CHARGED ME. TWO YEARS LATER IT HAPPENED AGAIN ON THE SAME WINDOW. I PAID FOR IT AGAIN. SINCE, THEY FIXED IT LAST TIME THEY SCRATCHED THE GLASS AND I CANNOT OPEN THE DOOR FROM THE INSIDE. I AM SINGLE AND 99.9% OF THE TIME I AM THE ONLY ONE IN THE CAR. THE WINDOW DOES NOT EVEN GET USED AND IT FAILS. THE WINDOW WAS NOT USED ONCE SINCE THE SECOND REPLACEMENT AND IT HAS FAILED AGAIN FOR A THIRD TIME. THE SECOND TIME I WAS AT THE JEEP DEALER TO HAVE IT REPLACED THE SERVICE ADVISOR EVEN SAID TO ME THAT THIS HAPPENS ALL THE TIME ON THESE VEHICLES. WELL, THEN WHY ISN'T SOMETHING BEING DONE ABOUT IT? WHEN YOU READ THE INTERNET YOU WILL FIND THAT ALL JEEP LIBERTY'S FROM 2002 TO 2007 HAVE THIS PROBLEM. THE PART WAS NOT ENGINEERED CORRECTLY AND DOES NOT HOLD UP. THE PART IS CLEARLY DEFECTIVE. YOU WILL BE DRIVING ALONG AND ALL OF A SUDDEN YOU HEAR AIR RUSHING IN BEHIND YOU. CHRYSLER NEEDS TO BE FORCED TO FIX IT BECAUSE OTHERWISE, THEY WILL NOT DO IT. EVERY YEAR OR TWO JEEP EXPECTS YOU TO PAY HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS TO HAVE A DEFECTIVE PART FIXED.
IT IS A WELL DOCUMENTED FACT REGARDING THE CONTINUED NEGLIGENCE OF CHRYSLER/JEEP REGARDING THE DEFECTIVE WINDOW REGULATORS. THE WINDOW REGULATOR CONTROLS THE ELECTRIC WINDOW AND KEEPS IT IN PLACE. WITH NO WARNING THE DEFECTIVE PART FREQUENTLY BREAKS CAUSING THE WINDOW TO FALL INTO THE DOOR-THE WINDOW CANNOT BE ROLLED UP. THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED 11/09 I HAD TWO SMALL CHILDREN IN THE BACK SEAT DURING A THUNDERSTORM. I WAS TRAVELING ON THE FREEWAY. SUDDENLY THE WINDOW DROPPED INTO THE REAR DRIVERS DOOR. THE CHILDREN STARTED SCREAMING AS RAIN CAME INTO THE VEHICLE AND I HAD TO PULL OVER ONTO THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY. I HAD TO CALL FOR HELP AND A FAMILY MEMBER DROVE 60 MILES TO PICK UP THE CHILDREN AS WE SAT ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITH POURING RAIN COMING INTO THE VEHICLE. AFTER INVESTIGATING THE MATTER AND SPENDING 357.00 TO GET IT FIXED,I REALISED THIS HAS BECOME A CHRONIC SAFETY ISSUE FOR THIS VEHICLE. JEEP FIXES THE WINDOW WITH THE SAME FAULTY PART,THEY REIMBURSED ME FOR MOST OF THE COST HOWEVER 21 MONTHS LATER..... THE SAME THING ALL OVER AGAIN AND THIS TIME THEY DON'T WANT TO COVER IT AND OF COURSE THEY STILL FIX IT WITH THE SAME DANGEROUS PART. IT NOW COSTS 400-500$ TO FIX IT. FINALLY (WHEN PREGNANT AND NERVOUS) I BROUGHT IT IN AFTER ONE TOO MANY TIMES. APPARENTLY THIS JEEP MODEL/YEAR IS WEATHER SENSITIVE. RAIN SEEMED TO BE THE CATALYST, BUT I REFUSE TO PUT ONE OF THOSE ANAL PERSON CAR COVERS ON BECOMING A SLAVE TO THE WEATHERCHANNEL. MECHANIC CHANGED TEMPERAMENTAL SENSOR WHICH, SO FAR, SEEMS TO BE MANAGED. THE A/C FAN ONLY WORKS AT 3 AND UP, WHICH IS TOO MUCH HOT/COLD FOR EVEN THE MOST ANEMIC AFTER MORE THAN FIVE MINUTES. BACK TO THE WEATHER, WINTER CAUSES FRONT STRUTS TO CREAK AND MOAN LIKE A GERIATRIC BEAST. ONCE AGAIN, THIS IS ANNOYING BUT SEEMINGLY INNOCUOUS. FOUR WHEEL DRIVE SHIFT ONLY WORKS IN PART TIME HI (OR LOW, DON'T RECALL), WHICH IS DISAPPOINTING THOUGH AGAIN, NOT LIFE THREATENING. THE COMBINATION OF THESE DEFECTS SIMPLY FEELS AS IF IT WAS BUILT WITH INDIFFERENCE TO THE CONSUMER. NOW THAT I HAVE TWO PRICELESS PASSENGERS, I REFUSE TO WAIT FOR THE CV JOINTS TO DISENGAGE BEFORE DEMANDING ALL REPAIRS BE MADE AND DOUBLE CHECKED BY MY IMPLICITLY TRUSTED MECHANIC (IRONICALLY ALSO A TWIN). THE WINDOW REGULATORS CONTINUOUSLY BREAK. THE WINDOWS CREEP DOWN AND CANNOT BE ROLLED BACK UP. OFTEN, THE WINDOWS FALL DOWN INTO THE DOOR CAUSING A POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD FOR CHILDREN OR PETS THAT COULD FALL OUT OF A MOVING VEHICLE. THERE IS ALSO A CONSIDERABLE THEFT AND SAFETY OPPORTUNITY AS THE WINDOW REGULATORS BREAK WITHOUT NOTICE, ALLOWING SOMEONE TO REACH INTO THE VEHICLE. I TURNED ON THE VEHICLE TO DISCOVER THAT THE REGULATOR APPEARED TO HAVE GONE OUT. THIS IS ESPECIALLY ODD CONSIDERING THE WINDOW'S BEEN USED MAYBE 3 TIMES SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NEW. NOW, SINCE I REFUSE TO PAY $300 TO FIX SOMETHING THAT THE MANUFACTURER HAS ADMITTED TO BEING DEFECTIVE (I.E. THEIR FAULT), I'M STUCK DEALING WITH A VISUAL IMPAIRMENT AND SECURITY ISSUE THAT COULD LEAD TO ETHER AN ACCIDENT OR THE THEFT OF THE VEHICLE ITSELF. INFORMED THAT WINDSHIELD MAY NOT HAVE BEEN GLUED PROPERLY AND THAT WINDSHIELD MAY HAVE SLID DOWN DURING INSTALLATION BEFORE GLUE WAS DRY, RESULTING IN WINDSHIELD TOUCHING THE CHASSIS THEREBY CAUSING CRACKS. *JB
