The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Liberty. The contact stated that while driving approximately 20-25 MPH, the front control arm fractured. The front wheel seized, and the vehicle drove into a driveway. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The local dealer was contacted and suggested an appointment, and that the rear control arm was not covered under warranty. The contact was informed about NHTSA Campaign Number: 13V252000 (Fuel System, Gasoline, Structure) and NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V278000 (Suspension). The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to the local dealer for assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 180,000.

The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 13V252000 (Fuel System, Gasoline, Structure) and 18V278000 (Suspension) however, the parts to do the recall repairs were not yet available. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, there was an abnormal sound coming from underneath the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the abnormal sound was due to a lower control arm failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recalls repairs. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. Hello, my name is Jamie Woodley. I'm filing this complaint on my 2006 Jeep Liberty Sport. Currently, there's a recall for the Suspension Rear lower control arms. I've read the previous recalls on it, which I saw this vehicle has been reprogrammed before. I've only had the vehicle for a few months and I've had an oil leak, bad thermostat, and the transmission is busted. I can't reverse or drive over 10 mph. I heard the transmission may be in Fail Safe mode. I had Midas do a full inspection, but they failed to acknowledge the lower control arms by suggesting brakes. I knew it wasn't the brakes. The technician drove the vehicle after the brakes were done, but I still heard/felt a problem with the Suspension. There is a recall for that from 2018. I purchased the vehicle last year in March 2020. Also, the rear lift gate was dented when I bought it like the vehicle may have been in an accident. This was a vehicle I purchased for my 2 kids and I. This vehicle has been giving me problems since I bought it. The back driver's side window won't go all the way up. I have to keep a stick in between just to keep the window from falling all the way in the door. Definitely not a safe vehicle. My Engine stalled out on the free way while I was on my way to pick up my kids. After my oil change, no oil light came on. I am seeking help with any buy back programs or a valued trade in appraisal. I have a quote from Conrad's on how much it's going to cost to fix it and the price is over $3,000. I have extended warranty, but am unsure if it will cover any service requests. That is pretty outrageous that it's going to cost that much to fix it. I've been at Take 5 to keep up on the maintenance and was told I had an oil leak somewhere. On top of the brakes, I've spent money on 4 new tires, 6 ignition coils, an O2 Sensor, and I bought a New PCM/ECU computer I have yet to have installed. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT BOTH WINDOW MECHANISMS WERE FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT YET REPAIRED. DRIVING VEHICLE AND VEHICLE STARTED MAKING POPPING NOISES RIGHT REAR, AND VEHICLE FELT LIKE THE REAR END WAS FISHTAILING WHY FRONT WAS STILL GOING STRAIGHT. TOOK TO CERTIFIED DEALER AND THEY REPORTED UNSAFE VEHICLE REPORT FILED DUE TO FRAME ROTTED THROUGH ON RIGHT REAR WHERE LOWER CONTROL ARM ATTACHES TO THE FRAME. THIS IS A RECALL ITEM FOR 2006 JEEP LIBERTY IN MAY 2018 (U38). OUTREACHED TO MOPAR AND AS TOLD NO RECALL ON VIN FOR THIS YET IF AUTHORIZED DEALER STATED IT IS WHAT RECALL IS THEY WOULD FILE CLAIM. WHEN TOLD IT IS, WAS DOCUMENTED ON INVOICE, MOPAR STATED THEY NEVER SAID THAT, WAS NOTHING COULD DO, WOULD NOT FILE CLAIM AGAINST U38 RECALL, AND BECAUSE UNABLE TO FIX AND OLD VEHICLE NOTHING WOULD BE DONE TO CORRECT THIS.

WE ALL OWN CARS. MY CAR HAS THIS PROBLEM WHERE THE POWER WINDOWS SUDDENLY STOP WORKING. IN OTHER WORDS, I CAN LOWER MY WINDOW AND HAVE IT SUDDENLY DECIDE TO NOT COME BACK UP, LEAVING ME WITH A VEHICLE SUBJECT TO ALL KINDS OF THEFT. THIS PROBLEM HAS HAPPENED THIRTEEN TIMES NOW ON MY 2006 JEEP LIBERTY AND CHRYSLER EXPECTS ME TO PAY $475 FOR EACH REPAIR. I WANT CHRYLSER TO PROVIDE THIS SERVICE FOR ME FREE OF CHARGE, ONLY BECAUSE THEY DID THE FIRST TWELVE TIMES. WITHOUT THIS SUPPORT, I AM IN A POSITION WHERE I CANNOT KEEP MY CAR AND CANNOT AFFORD A NEW ONE. DO YOU KNOW WHAT IT FEELS LIKE TO LOWER YOUR CAR WINDOW AND HAVE IT SUDDENLY NOT COME BACK UP? A GRINDING NOISE FROM THE REAR DRIVERS SIDE BRAKING SYSTEM WAS PRESENT WHEN IN MOTION AND ASSUMED TO BE WARPED ROTORS. WHEN THE ROTORS WERE REMOVED IT WAS FOUND THAT THE PARKING BRAKE BACKING PLATE AND THE BOLTS THAT SECURE IT HAVE RUSTED TO THE EXTENT THAT THE PLATE IS LOOSE AND NO LONGER SECURED, WHICH MAKES THE PARKING BRAKE DEFECTIVE AND IS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN. THIS APPEARS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM AND FOR A VEHICLE UNDER 10 YEARS OLD AND 100000 MILES TO HAVE PARTS RUST SO SEVERELY THAT THEY FAIL IS AN ISSUE THAT CHRYSLER SHOULD ADDRESS, AS IT IS OBVIOUS THAT THIS PART WAS NOT MADE TO LAST.

ON 2 SEPARATE OCCASIONS; 8-13 AND 9-3-15 I ALMOST DROVE OFF THE ROAD WHEN SUDDENLY MY VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE,LOUD, CLAMORING NOISE OCCURRED, WHICH MADE IT IMPERATIVE THAT I PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD/AWAIT ASSISTANCE. THE PROBLEM WAS THAT THE BACKING PLATES HAD CORRODED AND RUSTED TO SUCH A SEVERE DEGREE THE CAR WAS INOPERABLE WITHOUT EXPENSIVE REPAIRS (557.97 EACH TIME).THE CLOSE TIMING OF THESE INCIDENTS SHOW THAT THE LIFESPAN OF THESE PARTS WERE NOT MADE TO LAST. JEEP DECLINED THE REQUEST TO REIMBURSE EXPENSES PAID, AND FAILED TO ADDRESS THE BIGGER SAFETY CONCERN. I WORRY SOMEONE WILL NOT BE AS LUCKY WHEN THIS PROBLEM OCCURS. IT IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION WHEN A VEHICLE <10 YRS OLD USED SOLELY AS A PASSENGER VEHICLE, IS MADE OF SUCH POOR QUALITY PARTS THAT THEY LITERALLY RUST OFF THE VEHICLE WHILE IT IS IN TRANSIT. IN DOING RESEARCH ON THE EXTENT OF THESE BACKING PLATE ISSUES, I SEE THAT THERE HAVE BEEN A SIGNIFICANT CUSTOMER COMPLAINTS FROM A QUALITY, FINANCIAL, AND SAFETY PERSPECTIVE, YET I SEE THAT NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO RECTIFY THIS ISSUE. IT IS MY VIEW THAT I SHOULD HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED OF THIS QUALITY ISSUE BEFORE I ALMOST HAD ACCIDENTS TWICE WITHIN A 3 WEEK PERIOD. TODAY THE JEEP DEALER SAID THE FRAME RAIL WAS NOT GOOD ENOUGH TO INSTALL THE HITCH AS CALLED FOR IN THE RECALL. I CALLED THE CHRYSLER COMPLAINT LINE AND WAS TOLD THERE IS NOTHING CHRYSLER CAN DO. SO NOW I MUST DRIVE AN UNSAFE VEHICLE, HOW CAN I SELL IT, OR EVEN TRADE IT IN. WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO NOW? I READ THAT VEHICLES LESS THAN 10 YEARS OLD COULD BE PURCHASED BACK. THESE JEEPS WERE RECALLED FOR REAR SUSPENSION COMPONETS RUSTING UP SO NOW THAT THE FRAMES IS RUSTING I HAVE TO DRIVE A DEATH TRAP. ON SEPTEMBER 2, 2015 I BROUGHT MY 2006 JEEP LIBERTY IN TO A DEALERSHIP, BENSON CHRYSLER, IN GREER SC FOR A REAR STRUCTURE REINFORCEMENT RECALL REPAIR. AFTER BEING LEFT AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR 4.5 HOURS, I WAS INFORMED THAT THE RECALL REPAIR COULD NOT BE COMPLETED DUE TO A LARGE AMOUNT OF RUST ON THE BOLTS. I WAS TOLD BY THE MANAGER, BRAD THAT MORE THAN ONE TECHNICIAN LOOK AT THE CAR AND DETERMINED IT COULD NOT BE REPAIRED. I LEFT THE DEALERSHIP IN DESPAIR WITH MAJOR CONCERN BECAUSE THE RECALL INVOLVES A CHANCE OF THE JEEP FUEL TANK LEAKING DURING A REAR END COLLISION WHICH COULD RESULT IN A FIRE. NOW AS A MOTHER AND WIFE I CANNOT IMAGINE CONTINUING TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE KNOWING THE AT ANY GIVEN TIME I COULD LOSE MY CAR AND POSSIBLY THE LIFE OF ME AND MY FAMILY. PLEASE HELP ME BY ADDRESSING THE ISSUE OF HOW CHRYSLER PLAN TO HANDLE THIS RECALL. OVER THE COURSE OF THE NINE YEARS I HAVE OWNED THIS LIBERTY, EACH OF THE 4 POWER WINDOWS HAVE FAILED MULTIPLE TIMES.THE WINDOWS SIMPLY FALL DOWN FREELY WITHOUT WARNING, AND CAN NOT BE PLACED BACK IN AN UPRIGHT, CLOSED POSITION. THIS HAS OCCURRED TWICE ON EACH FRONT WINDOW, AND ON EACH THE LEFT/REAR AND RIGHT REAR WINDOWS IT HAS HAPPENED THREE SEPARATE TIMES. THOUGH THIS IS AN ONGOING AND KNOWN SAFETY AND SECURITY ISSUE, THERE HAS BEEN NO SERVICE BULLETIN OR RECALL AS FAR AS I KNOW. CHRYSLER/JEEP CUSTOMER SERVICE AND LOCAL DEALER ARE UNWILLING TO RECOGNIZE THE PROBLEM OR COVER THE REPAIRS. CHRYSLER CORPORATION ACCEPTS THE FACT THERE ARE WINDOW DEFECTIVE LIFT PLATES. THEY EXTENDED THE VEHICLE WARRANTY TO REPLACE THE LIFT PLATE PARTS IF THEY FAIL. TO MY KNOWLEDGE CHRYSLER CORPORATION DID NOT NOTIFY OWNERS ABOUT THE DEFECTIVE PARTS OR THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. ANOTHER SIDE WINDOW LIFT PLATE ON THE SAME VEHICLE FAILED ON MAY 30, 2013. WHEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE AND A WINDOW COMPLETELY DROPS DOWN IT CAN STARTLE THE DRIVER AND IS A DISTRACTION THAT COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. THE VEHICLE WAS AGAIN TAKEN IN FOR REPAIR AT THE JEEP CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THE EXTENDED WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED AND THE COST OF REPAIR NEEDED TO BE PAID BY THE OWNER. THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME THAT WE HAD FILLED THE TANK UP ON OUR 2006 JEEP LIBERTY SINCE WE PURCHASED IT ON JUNE 7, 2013. WHILE STANDING AT THE PUMP WAITING FOR THE TANK TO FILL UP, THE TANK STARTED OVERFLOWING WITH GAS. I HAD GAS ALL OVER ME, THE CAR, AND THE GROUND. I WROTE IT OFF AS BEING A PROBLEM WITH THE PUMP. 1 WEEK LATER I GO TO A DIFFERENT PUMP TO FILL IT UP, AND IT HAPPENS AGAIN. SO I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP THAT SERVICES MY VEHICLES AND EXPLAINED THE PROBLEM AND WE TOOK IT IN FOR THEM TO LOOK AT. THEY SAID THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM BUT JEEP WILL NOT FIX THE ISSUE. I STARTED LOOKING ON JEEP FORUMS AND HAVE FOUND QUITE A FEW INSTANCES OF THIS SAME PROBLEM ON THE JEEP LIBERTY AND THESE PEOPLE HAVE ALSO FILED CLAIMS TO THE NHTSA. THE ONLY WAY FOR THE PROBLEM TO BE FIXED IS FOR THE TANK TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE THERE IS A CHECK VALVE IN THE TANK THAT IS CAUSING THIS. THIS IS A VERY COSTLY REPAIR AS I HAVE CALLED A COUPLE OF DEALERSHIPS AROUND IN THE ARE WITH THE TANK ALONE COSTING OVER $1,400 DOLLARS. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE THAT JEEP REFUSES TO FIX. MY 2006 JEEP LIBERTY HAS A SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH THE WINDOW REGULATORS AND LIFT PLATES. JUNE 1, 2010, WAS THE FIRST REGULATOR TO GO OUT. THE SECOND ONE WENT OUT SHORTLY AFTER THAT. NOW THE FIRST ONE HAS DROPPED AGAIN. THE FIRST TIME, I PAID OVER $400 FOR THE REPAIR. THE SECOND ONE WAS COVERED BY CHRYSLER COMPLETELY, AND THEY REIMBURSED ME $333 FOR THE FIRST REPAIR WHEN THE SECOND REPAIR WAS DONE. THEY ARE GOING TO "CONSIDER" REIMBURSING ME FOR THIS THIRD ONE, BUT I HAVE TO JUMP THROUGH ALL OF THEIR HOOPS FOR IT TO BE CONSIDERED. THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM THAT IS AFFECTING MANY MANY LIBERTY OWNERS. THERE SHOULD BE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THESE REGULATORS AND PLATES. MY MOTHER BOUGHT A USED 2006 JEEP LIBERTY HAS NEVER HAD A PROBLEM,SO IN MARCH OF 2010 ME AND MY HUSBAND DECIDED TO PURCHASE A USED 2006 JEEP LIBERTY FROM A TRUSTY CAR DEALER. WITHIN 2 MONTHS OF HAVING THIS JEEP OUR RIGHT REAR WINDOW DROPPED INTO THE DOOR AS WE WERE DRIVING TO A FAMILY FUNCTION. MY BIGGEST FEAR WAS THAT 1 OF OUR 3 KIDS COULD HAVE BEEN HURT BY BROKEN GLASS. MY FATHER REPAIRED THE WINDOW BY WEDGING A PIECE OF WOOD BETWEEN THE DOOR AND THE WINDOW. I LATER CALLED JEEP WHO TOLD ME THERE WAS NO RECALL ON THIS JEEP AND THAT THEY WOULD GLADLY SPLIT THE COST WITH ME WHICH ONLY COST $600 PER WINDOW AND THEY WON'T WARRANTY BECAUSE THEY KNOW IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN. I LEFT IT ALONE CAUSE WE COULD NOT AFFORD THIS AT THE TIME. A FEW MONTHS LATER IN NOVEMBER 2010 THE LEFT SIDE REAR WINDOW SLIPPED,ONCE AGAIN MY FATHER REPAIRED IT AT BEST HE COULD. I FINALLY WENT ONLINE TO SEE WHAT I COULD DO REPAIR THE PROBLEM MYSELF AT A CHEAPER COST. I CAME ACROSS A WEB SITE STEIGERS.COM THE GENTLEMAN WHO OWNS THIS COMPANY HAS CREATED A REPLACEMENT PIECE FOR THE BROKEN PART AND IT WORKS GREAT. I REPLACED IT MYSELF WITH NO KNOWLEDGE OF REPAIRING CARS. THE ONLY HARD PART WAS WORKING IN SUCH A TIGHT SPACE..THANK GOD MY HANDS ARE SMALL ENOUGH TO SQUEEZE IN BETWEEN THE DOOR AND THE WINDOW AREA. THE PART IS ABOUT A $100 WITH SHIPPING AND HANDLING AND SO FAR SEEMS TO HAVE SOLVED THE PROBLEM IT TOOK ABOUT AN HOUR TO DO ALL THE WORK ON 1 WINDOW. THATS NOT OUR ONLY PROBLEM WITH THIS LOVELY VEHICLE WE HAVE ALSO HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE FUEL SPILLING OUT WHEN FILLING THE TANK. THE TANK SEEMS TO BUILD PRESSURE OR CATCH AIR. I DON'T KNOW ALL I KNOW IS IT SCARED ME REALLY BAD THE FIRST TIME.AND WE HAVE ALSO HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE ESP ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU HIT A TURN TO HARD OR HIT A BIG BUMP. HOW WONDERFUL A 4X4 VEHICLE WHO DOESN'T LIKE BIG TURNS,BUMPS OR SNOW. THE POWER WINDOWS IN MY 2006 JEEP LIBERTY HAVE A DESIGN DEFECT. THE ORIGINAL DESIGN INCLUDES A PLASTIC PART WHICH BREAKS AND ALLOWS THE WINDOW TO FALL DOWN INTO THE DOOR. MY DRIVER-SIDE PASSENGER WINDOW HAS BEEN HELD UP WITH TAPE FOR THE PAST 12 MONTHS. I RECENTLY HAD TO PAY $250 TO HAVE THE DRIVER'S-SIDE WINDOW REGULATOR REPLACED. RESEARCHING ONLINE I HAVE SEEN INCIDENTS WHERE OWNERS HAVE HAD TO HAVE THE SAME WINDOW REPLACED TWO OR THREE TIMES AT $300-$500 PER INCIDENT.MOPAR BODY SERVICE BULLETIN 23-008-09 AND 23-014-08 DETAIL THE ISSUE AND CHRYSLER'S CORRECTION. THE WINDOW REGULATOR'S IN MY 2006 JEEP LIBERTY CONTINUOUSLY BREAK AND THE WINDOW FALLS DOWN INTO THE DOOR. THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS OF THIS HAPPENING ALL OVER THE COUNTRY. THIS IS VERY UNSAFE WHEN A CHILD IS TRAVELING IN THE CAR FOR THE WINDOW TO JUST FALL INTO THE DOOR. AND CHRYSLER WILL ONLY REPLACE WITH ANOTHER PART THAT WILL DO THE SAME THING IN 6 MONTHS.

I BOUGHT A 2006 JEEP LIBERTY LIMITED ON 8-20-09 IN EXCELLENT CONDITION WITH APPROXIMATELY 50,000 MILES. BEFORE I EVEN DROVE THE CAR OFF THE DEALERSHIPS LOT, THE REAR DRIVER'S-SIDE WINDOW/WINDOW REGULATOR FAILED RENDERING THE WINDOW INOPERABLE. DEALERSHIP DID NOT HAVE PART AND HAD TO SEAL IN UP POSITION SO AS NOT TO FALL, WHILE PART IS BEING ORDERED. UPON EXTENSIVE RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET ON VARIOUS HIGHLY RESPECTED CAR REVIEW/RATING SITES, I HAVE LEARNED THAT THE 2006 JEEP LIBERTY HAS A KNOWN DEFECT IN QUALITY OF WINDOW REGULATOR DESIGN AND MATERIAL USED WHICH CAUSES WINDOWS TO DROP INTO DOORS OR CEASE OPERATING ROUTINELY ON AVERAGE OF EVERY 2-3 MONTHS. YESTERDAY WHILE DRIVING, MY REAR PASSENGER WINDOW DROPPED WHILE I WAS DRIVING 65 MPH ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY IN TRAFFIC. I WAS SUBSEQUENTLY STARTLED TO THE POINT I SWERVED, AND NARROWLY MISSED HITTING ANOTHER CAR WHICH WOULD HAVE CAUSED A MULTIPLE CAR COLLISION ON A MAJOR INTERSTATE. I HAVE SINCE TAPED MY WINDOW IN THE "UP" POSITION UNTIL I CAN RESOLVE THIS ISSUE WITH DEALER. DEALERSHIP HAS INFORMED ME THAT THEY WILL ONLY COVER THIS FIRST REPLACEMENT/REPAIR, AND THAT I WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR FUTURE WINDOW REGULATOR REPAIRS OF $500.00 EACH. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE. A COMPANY/DEALERSHIP SHOULD STAND 100% BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT AND SHOULD CERTAINLY ADDRESS POTENTIAL SAFETY ISSUES RESULTING FROM SOMETHING AS CRITICAL AS THIS. THE KNOWN WINDOW REGULATOR FAILURE COULD CAUSE ACCIDENTS, BODILY INJURY, THEFT/VANDALISM ISSUES, AND DEPRECIATION AND DEGRADATION OF VEHICLE INTERIOR DUE TO WEATHER DAMAGE. I WILL BE FILING COMPLAINTS WITH STATE ATTORNEY GENERAL AND CAR MANUFACTURER/CORPORATE HEADQUARTERS. A SAFETY RECALL SHOULD IMMEDIATELY BE ISSUED, AND THESE WINDOW REGULATORS SHOULD BE REDESIGNED WITH SOMETHING OTHER THAN PLASTIC THAT HAS PROVEN TO REPEATEDLY FAIL. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED AFTER HAVING A DVD PLAYER INSTALLED IN THE VEHICLE BY THE DEALER, LEAKING OCCURRED BETWEEN THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE SEATS WHILE PARKED OR IN MOTION CONSISTENTLY AFTER OR DURING A RAIN STORM. THE LEAKING CREATED MOLD AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER ON FOUR SEPARATE OCCASIONS BUT COULD NOT FIND THE SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND EXPRESSED THAT THE DEALERSHIP NEEDED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE WATER DAMAGE WAS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A LETTER FROM THE MANUFACTURER THAT STATED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING MORE THE DEALER OR MANUFACTURER COULD DO. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DRIVEN SINCE THE INCIDENT DUE TO MOLD INFESTATION.
