Many Jeep vehicles have gas blow back during refueling. This problem has existed for a number of years and Jeep has issued recalls. Please read the following: If each Jeep user spills .1 gallon during refueling and they refuel the Jeep 12 times per year they spill 1.2 gallons per year. This is a very low estimate. If there are 100,000 Jeeps experiencing this problem that is 120,000 gallons of gas per year. Does anyone at NHTSA care?

FUEL OVERFLOWS & DOESN'T SHUT OFF WHEN FULL! EVERY TIME WE PUT FUEL INTO THE CAR, IT WILL NOT ALLOW THE PUMP TO SHUT OFF WHEN THE TANK BECOMES FULL-NO MATTER HOW SLOW ONE FILLS THE TANK, IT CREATES A FUEL BURP AND POURS GASOLINE OUT & DOWN THE VEHICLE. ALMOST EVERY TIME I FILL-UP, THERE IS A SPLASH-BACK FROM THE FUEL FILLER OPENING. THIS APPARENTLY IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE LIBERTY MODEL AMONG OTHERS. I SPOKE WITH THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT I WOULD NEED TO PAY FOR ANY REPAIRS SINCE THERE WAS NO RECALL THAT WOULD PAY FOR IT. I THEN CONTACTED CHRYSLER WHO TOLD ME THAT MY SPECIFIC LIBERTY IS NOT PART OF ANY RECALL OR TSB SO THEY CANNOT HELP. I BELIEVE THIS PROBLEM POSES A HAZARD IF THE GAS WAS TO IGNITE. THE MOST RECENT OCCURRENCE WAS ON 26 FEBRUARY 2016.

I PURCHASED A CAR FROM U.S. AUTO SALES IN COLUMBIA, SOUTH CAROLINA ON JUNE 12TH 2015. THE EVENING I TOOK THE CAR HOME THE GAS GAUGE WAS NOT AT THE EMPTY MARK AND THE CAR SHUT OFF AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND INFORMED THEM OF THIS AND THEY PROCEEDED TO TELL ME THAT IT IS AN ONGOING CHRYSLER ISSUE AND TO NOT LET THE GAS TANK TO GET BELOW A QUARTER TANK. THEY PROCEEDED TO RESET THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. 2 WEEKS LATER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. SO I TOOK TO A LOCAL AUTO STORE TO HAVE A DIAGNOSTICS RUN AND WAS INFORMED THAT A WHEEL BEARING WAS NEEDED, A CATALYTIC CONVERTER AND A FUEL LINE BECAUSE AT A CERTAIN LEVEL THE GAS WILL NOT REACH THE ENGINE. TODAY IN SOUTH CAROLINA THE TEMPERATURE IS WELL OVER 100 DEGREES AND WHILE I WAS DRIVING MY AIR CONDITIONER STOPPED WORKING. I HAVE HAD MORE ISSUES OUT OF THIS CAR WITHIN THE 30 DAYS I HAVE HAD IT. I DID PURCHASE A WARRANTY ONLY TO BE TOLD THAT I WOULD HAVE TO BEAR SOME OF THE COST TO FIX A VEHICLE I JUST PURCHASED. I AM NOW WAITING ON A CALL FROM THEIR MECHANIC ONCE HE GETS THE PARTS IN TO DO THE REPAIRS. I BELIEVE I WAS KNOWINGLY SOLD A LEMON. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT IF I HAD ANY ISSUES WITH THE CAR TO BRING IT IN AND I WILL BE GIVEN A LOANER CAR. WELL WHEN I DID BRING IT IN I WAS BASICALLY TOLD TO GET IN LINE AND WAIT BECAUSE THEY HAD NO LOANER VEHICLES. WHEN FILLING THE GAS TANK THE SENSOR THAT INDICATES THE TANK IS FULL IS DEFECTIVE. WHEN IT SHUTS OFF THE GAS PUMP, GAS SPEWS OUT OF THE TANK HEAVILY, GETTING ON AUTO, GROUND AND PERSON. I SPOKE TO CHRYSLER ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND THEY SAID THEY ARE AWARE OF THIS DEFECT BUT HAVE NOT ISSUED A RECALL. THEY FURTHER ADVISED THAT I WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL REPAIR EXPENSES IF I CHOOSE TO HAVE THE TANK REPLACED. THIS IS A SERIOUS DEFECT THAT CHRYSLER SHOULD FIX. THE JEEP LIBERTY HAS POORLY DESIGNED GAS TANKS, THEY SPEW GAS UPON FILLING AND CATCH FIRE UPON REAR IMPACT. CHRYSLER SHOULD BE MADE TO CORRECT THESE ISSUES AND STOP OFFERING PATCHES, I. E. I HAVE CALLED SEVERAL DEALERSHIPS TO FIX THE PROBLEM HOWEVER I AM ON A WAITING LIST OF 250 PEOPLE AND THEY HAVE RUN OUT OF PARTS. IN THE MEANTIME I AM RIDING AROUND WITH MY DAUGHTER IN THE BACK SEAT. I AM VERY UPSET THAT SHE MAY BE AT RISK. THE MANUFACTURER MUST TAKE RESPONSIBILITY AND FIX THE PROBLEM SOONER. I AM NOT IN A POSITION TO GO AND TRADE MY CAR FOR ANOTHER. I WAS NOTIFIED OVER A YEAR AGO (APPROXIMATELY NOVEMBER 2013) BY MAIL AND WAS INFORMED I WOULD BE CONTACTED AGAIN WHEN PARTS WERE AVAILABLE. APPROXIMATELY MAY 21, 2014 AT 7:32 AM, I CALLED THE NUMBER ON THE RECALL TO FIND OUT WHY THERE HAD BEEN NO FURTHER CONTACT. I WAS TOLD I WOULD BE CONTACTED NOM LATER THAN AUGUST 2014. ON SEPT 10, 2014, I CALLED THE NUMBER AGAIN ON THE ORIGINAL RECALL AND WAS FINALLY CONNECTED TO A DEALER. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT FOR 9/12/14 AT 2:00PM AS I WAS TOLD THE SERVICE DEPT. WAS WIDE OPEN. I PURCHASED VEHICLE AUG 2008 WITH 7500 MILES ON IT. FROM THAT TIME TO CURRENT DATE, FUEL SPILLS OUT WHEN FILLING THE GAS TANK FULL. SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASE, THE FIRST OF 3 OCCURRENCES OF THE REAR WINDOWS FALLING HAPPENED. THE DEALERSHIP REPAIRED THE FIRST ONE, THE SECOND ONE I HAD TO PAY $100 DEDUCTIBLE TO HAVE MY EXTENDED WARRANTY COVER THE COST TO THE SAME DEALERSHIP. NOW THE FIRST ONE IS BROKE AGAIN, COSTING ME ANOTHER $100 DEDUCTIBLE. IN ADDITION, IN THE PAST WEEK I HAVE SPENT OVER $600 TO REPLACE THE IGNITION SWITCH (VEHICLE WOULD ONLY START USING MY REMOTE START) AND PROBLEMS WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON. I HAD THE SPARK PLUGS AND COILS CHANGED, INJECTORS CLEANED, COMPRESSION CHECKED, INTAKE AND CARBON CLEANER RUN THROUGH ENGINE, AND COMPLETE OIL CHANGE. THIS DOESN'T INCLUDE THE $600 I SPENT TODAY FOR NEW TIRES ALSO SPENT $140 FOR A NEW BATTERY LAST YEAR. THE WINDOW SEAL STRIPS ON BOTH FRONT WINDOWS CONTINUE TO FALL OFF.. IT'S NOT OVER YET - VEHICLE IS IN THE SHOP NOW FOR THE ENGINE LIGHT. WHO KNOWS HOW MUCH IT WILL COST ME. CHRYSLER NEEDS TO BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR NEGLIGENCE IN PUTTING VEHICLES LIKE THIS ON THE MARKET. I HOPE A SERIOUS INJURY OR FATALITY DOESN'T HAVE TO HAPPEN TO GET THEIR ATTENTION. FOR THE PAST COUPLE OF YEARS, MY JEEP OVERFLOWS EVERY TIME I FILL UP AT THE GAS STATION. AS SOON AS THE TANK IS FULL, AND THE GAS NOZZLE CLICKS OFF, A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF GASOLINE COMES GUSHING OUT OF THE TANK. I HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH, AND THIS SEEMS TO BE A RECURRING PROBLEM AMONG MANY CHRYSLER VEHICLE OWNERS. THIS IS NOT ONLY A SAFETY HAZARD, BUT CAUSES DAMAGE TO THE EXTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE, AND ISN'T GOOD ON THE ENVIRONMENT. SINCE I HAVE PURCHASED THE CAR USED FROM A DEALERSHIP, THERE HAVE BEEN TWO RECURRENT PROBLEMS WITH IT. WHEN FILLING THE GAS TANK AT THE GAS STATION, THE GAS DOESN'T "SHUT OFF" WHEN THE TANK IS FILLED. THE GAS SPILLS OUT OVER THE SIDE OF THE CAR ALMOST EVERY TIME I FILL THE TANK - IT DOES NOT MATTER THE GAS STATION. I WAS TOLD TO DEAL WITH IT. 2.) MY DRIVER SIDE FRONT WINDOW DOES NOT WORK - IT NEVER HAS. I CAN ROLL IT DOWN, BUT WHEN I TRY TO HAVE IT CLOSE IT COMES OUT OF TRACK AND GETS STUCK. I HAVE EVEN HAD IT IN UNDER WARRANTY TO DEALERSHIPS TWICE OR THREE TIMES (IN ADDITION TO TWO INDEPENDENT MECHANICS' REVIEWS) IN WHICH I WAS EVEN REIMBURSED FOR A FIX - THAT NEVER WORKED. I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY ALL OF THESE MECHANICS THAT THERE IS NOTHING THAT CAN BE DONE. PLEASE NOTE I AM ESTIMATING WHEN THIS STARTED, AS I CANNOT SEEM TO REMEMBER THE DATE OF PURCHASE - IT IS AROUND THE YEAR 2009. I DID BUY THE CAR USED, AND IT IS A 2007. THIS IS A COMPLAINT ABOUT THE FUEL ISSUE THAT I HAVE SEEN ON HERE ALREADY.WHEN I GO TO PUT FUEL INTO THE GAS TANK, IT WILL NOT STOP AT THE END AS IT'S FILLING UP. IT JUST OVERFLOWS. I WOULD SAY AT LEAST A FEW CUPS OF FUEL FLOWS DOWN THE SIDE OF THE JEEP AND DOWN INTO THE BOTTOM OF THE VEHICLE AND WHEEL WELL. I KNOW THAT AT SOME POINT IT WILL LEAD TO RUST/CORROSION AMONG MANY OTHER ISSUES. I REALLY WISH THIS COULD BE LOOKED AT AND POSSIBLY FIXED BY MANUFACTURER. IT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE THAT THERE ARE MORE THAN ENOUGH COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE, WITH NO HELP FROM THE MANUFACTURER. I ALSO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEMS AS OTHERS WITH THE WINDOWS. THE REGULATOR HAS A PIECE THAT BREAKS AND THEN THE WHOLE REGULATOR HAS TO BE REPLACED. THIS HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES ALREADY ON DIFFERENT WINDOWS. LASTLY, I JUST RECENTLY HAD AN ISSUE WHERE THE JEEP WOULDN'T START. THE CONSOLE LIGHTS AND GUAGES WORK FINE AND IT ACTED LIKE ALL WAS WELL, BUT THE CAR WOULDN'T TURN OVER WHEN THE KEY WAS TURNED. THE RESULT WAS THE IGNITION SWITCH ACTUATOR PIN. IT HAS A PIECE THAT BREAKS OFF AND WHEN THAT HAPPENS, THE JEEP WONT BE ABLE START. IT ISN'T AN EASY FIX FOR SOMEONE WHO ISN'T MECHANICALLY CAPABLE.
