The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Liberty. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, there was an abnormally strong fuel odor coming from the vehicle. The contact stated that the fuel gauge failed to operate as intended. The contact stated that after refueling the vehicle the fuel gauge failed to provide the proper fuel level. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with fuel injector failure. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated the failure occurred frequently after the vehicle was repaired. The contact related the failure to an unknown recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but confirmed that the vehicle was not included in a recall. The failure mileage was unavailable.

I HAD TO DRIVE 3 HOURS WITH THE BACK DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW DOWN. I HAD THIS WINDOW REPAIRED FOR THE SAME THING 2 YEARS AGO AND NOW AGAIN. JUST THIS YEAR IN APRIL I HAD TO SPEND MONEY TO FIX THE DRIVER SIDE WINDOW DUE TO THE SAME PROBLEMS. AND EACH TIME IT WAS THE REGULATOR AND ONLY ONCE DID JEEP REFUND ME MY MONEY. I BOUGHT THE JEEP FROM A FRIEND LAST FALL AND THIS PROBLEM DIDN'T EXIST UNTIL ABOUT 4 MONTHS AFTER I HAD IT. WHEN REFUELING OUR 2007 JEEP LIBERTY, FUEL OVERFLOWS AFTER FUEL PUMP AUTOMATIC SHUTOFF IS TRIGGERED. THIS OVERFLOW NOW OCCURS EVERY TIME VEHICLE IS REFUELED. NO ONE IS ATTEMPTING TO "TOP OFF" THE FUEL TANK. THE OVERFLOW CAUSES A QUANTITY OF FUEL, WHICH I ESTIMATE AT TWO TO FOUR CUPS, TO SPILL ON THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND ONTO THE GROUND. THIS FUEL OVERFLOW FLAW CREATES AN EXTREME FIRE HAZARD AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONTAMINATION RISK. THIS FLAW OCCURS IN THE WRANGLER MODEL OF CHRYSLER JEEP PRODUCTS ALSO, WHERE A RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED. THE SAME FLAW IS OCCURRING IN MANY THOUSANDS OF JEEP LIBERTY'S AS IS EVIDENT BY THE HUGE VOLUME OF OWNER STATEMENTS POSTED ON MANY WEBSITES. THIS WAS AN OCCASIONAL PROBLEM THAT HAS NOW BECOME CONSISTENT. IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO PREDICT AND WITHOUT A RECALL NOTICE, CONSUMERS ARE UNAWARE OF THIS HAZARD. THIS FLAW CREATES A SAFETY HAZARD FOR THE PERSON REFUELING THE VEHICLE AND ANYONE NEARBY (SPECIFICALLY MY CHILDREN WHO ARE OFTEN WITH ME WHEN FUELING OUR JEEP). THE FUEL SPILLED HAS CAUSED PROPERTY DAMAGE IN THE FORM OF RUINED CLOTHING AND SHOES, AND POSSIBLY DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE AS FUEL RUNS DOWN THE SIDE INTO CREVICES AROUND THE REAR WHEEL AND AXLE. WHY WOULD THE MANUFACTURER COVER THIS FLAW UNDER WARRANTY FOR ONE MAKE AND MODEL, THE JEEP WRANGLER, AND NOT COVER THE IDENTICAL PROBLEM FOR ANOTHER MAKE AND MODEL, THE JEEP LIBERTY? BEGINNING AT APPROXIMATELY 35,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE, FUEL WOULD SPIT-BACK IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE FUEL NOZZLE SHUT OFF. THE AMOUNT OF FUEL SPIT BACK WAS SIGNIFICANT, DRENCHING THE LOWER HALF OF THE PERSON FUELING THE VEHICLE. AT FIRST, WE THOUGHT THIS MIGHT BE AN ISSUE WITH THE FUELING PUMP, BUT FOUND IT REPEATED ITSELF AT EVERY PUMP AND AT EVERY STATION WE UTILIZED. IT DOES NOT SEEM TO DEPEND ON RATE OF FUELING, AS EVEN ATTEMPTING TO FUEL SLOWLY RESULTS IN A DANGEROUS SPIT BACK OF FUEL AND POTENTIAL DRENCHING OF THE INDIVIDUAL. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY THE DEALER AND A DEFECTIVE VALVE IN THE FUEL TANK WAS DIAGNOSED AS THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. INTERESTINGLY, AFTER REPORTING THE LABOR CHARGE OF $200 TO INVESTIGATE THE ISSUE, WE WERE TOLD THAT THEY HAVE SEEN A NUMBER OF JEEPS WITH THIS PROBLEM. ONE WOULD THINK COMMON PROBLEMS COULD BE FOUND WITHOUT THIS LEVEL OF LABOR. THE VALVE IN QUESTION CANNOT BE OBTAINED AS AN INDIVIDUAL UNIT AND THE ENTIRE FUEL TANK MUST BE REPLACED AT THE COST OF APPROXIMATELY $900. GIVEN THAT NUMEROUS OTHER CHRYSLER VEHICLES OF THIS YEAR, INCLUDING WRANGLER, DODGE DURANGO, LIBERTY, AND OTHER MODELS ACROSS THE CHRYSLER, DODGE, AND JEEP BRAND EXHIBIT THIS PROBLEM AND THAT LACKING SIGNIFICANT MOVING PARTS, ONE CANNOT JUSTIFY A FUEL TANK COMPONENT FAILURE AFTER 35,000 MILES, THIS ISSUE IS UNQUESTIONABLE A DESIGN FAILURE. THE 2007 JEEP LIBERTY SPORT MY PARENTS AND 3 YEAR OLD CHILD WERE IN WAS T-BONED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE BY ANOTHER CAR THAT WAS TRAVELING AT APPROX. 45 MPH UPON IMPACT, RESULTING IN THE JEEP ROLLING OVER SEVERAL TIMES. THE OTHER CAR STRUCK THE JEEP DIRECTLY IN THE MIDDLE, CAUSING THE MIDDLE SECTION TO CAVE IN, FORCING THE PASSENGER SEAT INTO THE DASH/GLOVE COMPARTMENT. THE REAR AXLE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE SEPARATED FROM THE FRAME, THE DRIVE-TRAIN SEPARATED, THE GAS TANK RUPTURED, AND THE REAR SHOCK SPRINGS CAME OFF. THE PERSON SEATED IN THE FRONT PASS. SEAT SUSTAINED A SPINAL FRACTURE AND BRAIN HEMORRHAGING. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED INTERNAL BRUISING/DAMAGE FROM HITTING THE STEERING WHEEL, ULTIMATELY BREAKING THE STEERING COLUMN.
