PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE IN MAY OF 2012. VEHICLE MAKES LARGE RATTLING RACKET WHEN GOING OVER ANY TYPE OF DIRT ROAD/BRICK ROAD AND A CLUNK WHEN GOING OVER LARGE BUMPS (SPEED BUMPS). HAVE TAKEN TO MECHANIC SEVERAL TIMES - TURNS OUT THE LARGE CLUNK WAS THE BALL JOINTS...THEY WERE COMPLETELY WORN AT 48000 MILES WHICH IN TURN CHANGED THE ALIGNMENT OF MY WHEELS - AS WELL AS AFTER DRIVING IT A MERE 10000 MILES MADE BOTH FRONT TIRES COMPLETELY BALD. *TR

AFTER HAVING A SHOP ALIGNED MY VEHICLE TWICE DUE TO UNEVEN TIRE WEAR. I TOOK IT IN TO THE MECHANIC AND ASKED THEM TO CHECK THE FRONT SUSPENSION. MECHANIC WAS AMAZED AT THE POOR CONDITION OF THE FRONT SUSPENSION DUE TO THE LOW MILEAGE OF THE VEHICLE AND THE FACT THAT IT HAS NEVER BEING OFF ROAD AND ONLY DRIVING ON HIGHWAY. HE SAID IN 25 YEARS HE HAD NEVER SEEING A FRONT SUSPENSION SO LOOSE AND REQUIRING FULL REPLACEMENT OF LOWER CONTROL ARMS, BALL JOINS, TIE ROD ENDS. WHILE DOING A TIRE ROTATION THEY ALSO NOTICED EXCESSIVE RUST ON HUB AND AXLE NUT. EXPLAINED THIS COULD BE A FATAL SAFETY ISSUE AND MY WHEELS COULD FALL OFF. CHRYSLER KNOWS THERE IS AN ISSUE AND EVEN ISSUE TSB TO TORQUE LOWER CONTROL ARMS TO TRY TO BAND AID THE PROBLEM. MECHANIC STATED THAT THE QUALITY OF THESE FRONT SUSPENSION PARTS IT'S INADEQUATE FOR THIS VEHICLE. CHRYSLER HAS RECALLED THE SAME PROBLEM ON OTHER SIMILAR MODELS BUT EVEN WITH 100'S OF REPORTS ONLINE AND OVER 50 REPORTS ON THIS SITE THEY REFUSED TO ADMIT THAT FRONT SUSPENSION COMPONENTS ARE FAILING A VERY LOW MILEAGE. WHAT'S IT GOING TO TAKE FOR TIRES TO START FLYING OFF AND PEOPLE TO DUE TO THE POOR QUALITY OF THESE PROBLEMS. AFTER THE WARRANTY IS OVER CHRYSLER WONT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT AND THEY SHOULD AT LEAST MEET THE OWNERS HALF WAY, RECTIFY THE DISMAL QUALITY OF THE PARTS AND PAY FOR THE PARTS WHILE CUSTOMER PAYS FOR LABOR. THIS IS DANGEROUS AND WILL CAUSE FATAL ACCIDENTS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS BEING EXAMINED BY AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE AND THE DEALER STATED THAT BOTH FRONT LOWER CONTROL ARMS AND BALL JOINTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED APPROXIMATELY 30,000 MILES LATER. THE VEHICLE WAS AGAIN REPAIRED. HE INFORMED ME THAT THE BALL JOINTS AND CONTROL ARMS WOULD NEED REPLACING IMMEDIATELY TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF MY VEHICLE. REPAIRS WERE MADE AS WAS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. NOV 2011: ABOUT 4,000 MILES LATER OUR JEEP WAS SCHEDULED ANOTHER OIL CHANGE, AND THE SAME MECHANIC NOTICED THAT SINCE OUR LAST SERVICE THE TIE RODS WERE IN NEED OF REPLACEMENT. RECENTLY, I BROUGHT MY JEEP TO A DEALERSHIP BECAUSE OF A STRANGE NOISE. THROUGH A SERVICE, IT WAS DETERMINED MY LOWER BALL JOINTS WERE EXCESSIVELY WORN TO THE POINT OF BEING A SAFETY HAZARD. THEY NEEDED TO BE IMMEDIATELY REPLACED IN ADDITION TO THE CONTROL ARMS. THIS COST APPROXIMATELY $1000 CAD. IN READING OVER THE INTERNET, THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON MANUFACTURING PROBLEM WITH ISSUES ACROSS THE BOARD. THERE HAS NEVER BEEN A RECALL. THERE IS NO WAY THE BALL JOINTS SHOULD BE NEEDING REPLACEMENT IN A VEHICLE THAT IS ONLY 3 YEARS OLD WITH NORMAL DRIVING USE. ON 08/12/2011 MY WIFE WAS DRIVING FROM CT TO MASS ON THE HIGHWAY TO PICK UP OUR 3 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER AT HER MOTHERS, WHEN SUDDENLY THE JEEP STARTED TO SHAKE. ON 08/13/2011 BROUGHT CAR TO MECHANIC AND HE SAID BALL JOINTS HAD TO BE REPLACED IMMEDIATELY, AND THE CAR WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. HE SAID SHE WAS LUCKY THE WHEELS DIDN'T FALL OFF. 08/13/2011 CALLED DEALERSHIP, BRANHAVEN IN BRANFORD, CT AND FOUND A RECALL BUT IT'S VIN NUMBER SPECIFIC, AND DOES NOT MATCH OUR JEEP. AT AN OIL CHANGE AND INSPECTION IN EARLY DECEMBER 2010, THE JEEP DEALER TOLD ME MY FRONT TIE ROD ENDS AND CONTROL ARMS NEEDED REPLACEMENT. EVERYTHING ELSE WAS FINE. MY 2007 JEEP ONLY HAD 32K MILES ON IT, SO I FINALLY GOT THEM TO PAY PART OF THIS. TWO WEEKS LATER, WHILE I DROVE MY CAR TO THE DEALER FOR THE REPAIRS, THE CAR STARTED "JACK HAMMERING". IT WAS AS IF THE BRAKES WERE BEING PULSED ON AND OFF HARD. (MY FOOT WAS NOT ON THE PEDAL AND I WAS DRIVING 55 MPH) THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME NEXT DAY THAT MY FRONT BRAKES WERE FRIED AND LOADED WITH RUST, AND UNSAFE TO DRIVE. I PAID THEM FOR THE REPAIRS. A WEEK LATER, THE "PULSING" RECURRED, AND THEN A REAR BRAKE LOCKED UP. I HAD TO GET THOSE ROTORS, CALIPERS AND PADS REPLACED TOO. MY PROBLEMS CONTINUED. I HAD JEEP LOOK AGAIN. THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM IS INFREQUENT, BUT I CONTINUE TO HAVE A LESSER PULSING SENSATION AND A DRAGGING SENSATION, LIKE PUSHING A SHOPPING CART WITH A BAD WHEEL. TWO DAYS AGO, I TOOK MY CAR TO AN INDEPENDENT SHOP. THEY COULDN'T REPLICATE THE PROBLEM, BUT TOLD ME MY NEW TIRES (LESS THAN 5K MILES) HAVE ALREADY BEEN DAMAGED BY THIS BRAKE PROBLEM. THEY ALSO POINTED OUT HOW EXTREMELY RUSTY THE AXLES AND AXLE NUTS ARE. SO RUSTY, YOU CAN'T TELL THEY ARE NUTS. I AM DRIVING AROUND NOW WONDERING IF MY WHEELS AND HUBS WILL FLY OFF THE CAR AT ANY MINUTE BECAUSE THERE IS NO METAL LEFT TO HOLD THEM ON. WHY WOULD THESE PARTS RUST SO BADLY, AND SO QUICKLY? WHY WOULD THE DEALER PUT BRAND NEW ROTORS AND CALIPERS ON SUCH SEVERELY RUSTED AXLES AND NUTS WITHOUT TELLING ME? DON'T THEY CARE IF I'M SAFE? I HAVE SINCE FOUND OUT FROM RESEARCHING THIS, THAT OTHERS HAVE THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH PREMATURE FAILURES OF CONTROL ARMS, BRAKES, ETC. DUE TO RUST. I ALSO FOUND OUT T JEEP IS NOT (HAS NEVER) NOTIFIED ME OF RECALLS. AREN'T THEY REQUIRED TO DO THAT? THEN AGAIN, THEY SOLD ME A BRAND NEW CAR WITHOUT THE FEDERALLY MANDATED MULRONEY STICKER, AND LIED TO ME ABOUT THE MPG. *TR

I INDEED CHECKED THE BALLS JOINTS AND THEY ARE CRACKING AT ONLY 32000 MILES LOOK LIKE THE BALLS JOINTS OF A 100000 CAR WITH 10 YEARS OF USE. LOWER BALL JOINTS ON 2007 JEEP PATRIOT SHOT AT 45,000 MILES. ACCORDING TO THREE MECHANICS WHO SAW THE PROBLEM, THE PROBLEM IS SEVERE AND I'VE BEEN ADVISED TO EITHER NOT DRIVE THE CAR OR IMMEDIATELY REPAIR THE PROBLEM. HE SAID HE SUSPECTS THEY ARE FAULTY BECAUSE HE SAID HE HEARD THEM MAKING A GRINDING NOISE. AS SOON AS TIME PERMITTED I DID THAT AND THE DEALERSHIP, RICHMOND CHRYSLER REPLACED THE REAR BEARINGS ONLY. THEY SUPPOSEDLY ROAD TESTED THE CAR AND SAID IT WAS FINISHED. I PICKED IT UP AND HAD MY FATHER ALSO ROAD TEST IT. HE SAID THE FRONT BEARINGS WERE MAKING A WORSE NOISE THAN EVER AND THEY SHOULD HAVE CAUGHT THIS AT THE DEALERSHIP.
