AFTER FUELING THE JEEP IT STALLS WHEN THE NEXT IDLE OR TWO OCCURS. FOR EXAMPLE, AFTER FUELING, THE JEEP IS DRIVEN AND STALLS AT THE FIRST STOP LIGHT. SOMETIMES IT OCCURS WHEN TRYING TO PULL AWAY FROM THE GAS STATION. IT IS VERY DANGEROUS AS THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKS UP AND YOU HAVE TO STOP THE VEHICLE AND RESTART IT IN TRAFFIC. IT ONLY HAPPENS WHEN FUELING THE TANK TO FULL. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS IT COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC FROM THE GAS STATION. IT HAPPENS EVERY TIME THE TANK IS FILLED UP.

EVERYTIME RIGHT AFTER I FILL UP MY 2008 JEEP PATRIOT (CAR IS SHUT OFF WHILE FUELING) THE JEEP EITHER BUCKS ME BACK AND FORTH LIKE IT'S A MANUAL GETTING STUCK BETWEEN GEARS FOR ABOUT 1 MINUTE (IT'S AN AUTOMATIC) OR IT STALLS AND DIES (CAR SHUTS OFF). SO FAR WHEN THE JEEP DIES IT HAS TURNED BACK ON.. THIS HAPPENS NORMALLY UNDER A HALF MILE AFTER THE JEEP HAS BEEN FILLED UP WITH GAS TO THE FILL MARK. THE CAR IS IN MOTION WHEN THIS OCCURS AND IT USUALLY OCCURS ON CITY STREETS SEEING AS MOST GAS STATIONS ARE IN TOWN, BUT THIS HAS OCCURRED ON THE HIGHWAY AFTER FILLING UP WITH GAS AT A STATION LOCATED RIGHT OFF OF THE HIGHWAY.

WHENEVER WE FILL UP THE GAS TANK ON THE JEEP, THE JEEP WILL STALL WHILE DRIVING ON THE ROAD. THE BIGGEST PROBLEM IS YOU DON'T KNOW WHEN IT WILL STALL AFTER FILLING THE TANK BUT IT DEFINITELY WILL STALL. TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING, WE NO LONGER FILL THE TANK ALL THE WAY. THIS HAPPENED ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION BUT I WILL PUT DOWN THE LAST TIME IT HAPPENED BECAUSE MY DAUGHTER FORGOT THAT SHE'S NOT SUPPOSED TO FILL THE JEEP ALL THE WAY TO FULL.

ON MY SECOND FILL UP, ON DECEMBER 29, 2017, IT STALLED AGAIN AFTER FILLING THE FUEL TANK AND DRIVING IN MODERATE TRAFFIC. AGAIN AT APPROXIMATELY .5 MILES. THIS WAS MORE SERIOUS AS IT WAS IN TRAFFIC AND COULD HAVE CAUSED A MAJOR ACCIDENT. THIS WAS MORE A CONCERN FOR ME AS MY FAMILY WAS IN THE VEHICLE AS WELL.

HAVE HAD MY JEEP FOR 6 YEARS ITS ALWAYS STALLING I TOOK IT TO JEEP CHRYSLER DODGE, FIRESTONE NOBODY CAN FIGURE OUT WHATS WRONG; IT ACTUALLY TURNS ITSELF OFF AND NOBODY KNOWS WHY. THIS IS DANGEROUS THIS CAR NEEDS A RECALL. I HAVE READ THAT 2012 MODELS DO THIS SAME THING BUT THIS ONE DOES IT TOO.ALSO THE SUNROOF LEAKS AS WELL AND THE RAINWATER GOES INTO THE LIGHTS. EVERYTIME WIFE FILLS THE FUEL TANK, THE ENGINE SHUTS OFF. 80% OF THE TIME IT HAPPENS IN THE INTERSECTION LEAVING THE FUEL STATION. SHE HAS ALMOST BEEN IN NUMEROUS ACCIDENTS BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM. SHE LOOSES POWER STEERING AS THE PUMP IS NO LONGER RUNNING BECAUSE THE ENGINE HAS SHUT DOWN. JEEP DEALER SAYS THIS IS A COMMON SAFETY PROBLEM, AND THAT THE FUEL TANK IS THE CULPRIT. THE OVERFLOW VALVE ON THE FUEL TANK IS FAULTY. THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS WITH OTHER OWNERS WITH THE SAME SAFETY ISSUE. THIS NEED TO BE A RECALL BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED.

EVERY TIME I GET GAS MY JEEP BUCKS AND STALLS FOR A FEW DAYS. IT BUCKED AND STALLED PROBABLY A DOZEN TIMES ON MY WAY HOME FROM GETTING GAS YESTERDAY. I JUST READ A WHOLE PAGE OF COMPLAINTS REGARDING THE FUEL TANK BEING FAULTY LETTING LIQUID GAS IN THE MANIFOLD (SOMETHING LIKE THAT) BUT IT'S DANGEROUS AND IT'S A DEFECT OBVIOUSLY. STALLING WHILE ENTERING A HIGHWAY RAMP TO A 75 MPH ROAD IS SCARY. I HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM FOR A FEW YEARS BUT IT'S EXPENSIVE TO REPAIR. I'VE PAID MECHANICS TO REPAIR IT BEFORE BUT THEY MISDIAGNOSE IT AND CHARGE ME TO DEAL WITH THE TRANSMISSION AND TRANSMISSION FLUID ETC. PLEASE DO SOMETHING. FOR THE PAST YEAR OR SO, I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING PROBLEM POSTED ON THE JEEP PATRIOT FORUMS UNDER THIS LINK (HTTP://WWW.JEEPPATRIOT.COM/FORUM/SHOWTHREAD.PHP?T=271689). HAPPENS 95% OF THE TIME WHERE THE ENGINE WILL STALL AFTER FILLING THE GAS TANK. IT CAN HAPPEN WHILE SITTING STILL OR WHILE DRIVING. IF IT STALLS WHILE DRIVING, THE POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES GO OUT MAKING IT VERY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL THE JEEP. THE OBVIOUS CONCERN IS THAT IT COULD LEAD TO A CRASH. I DON'T LIKE THE IDEA OF JUST "DON'T FILL IT UP ALL THE WAY" - THAT SEEMS LIKE A COP OUT. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AFTER IT HAPPENED THE FIRST TIME - THEY KEPT IT FOR 2 DAYS, DRIVING IT ALL AROUND AND WERE UNABLE TO REPRODUCE IT (THIS WAS BEFORE I STUMBLED ACROSS THIS FORUM AND REALIZED IT ONLY HAPPENS AFTER A GAS TANK FILL-UP). I JUST BOUGHT THE CAR 2 YEARS AGO, USED FROM A REPUTABLE DEALER AS IS, WITH CLEAN HISTORY. HAD THEM CHECK EVERYTHING OVER ONE FINAL TIME BEFORE PURCHASE. NOW I'M READING THAT MANY OTHER JEEP PATRIOT OWNERS HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEMS. I HIGHLY SUGGEST A RECALL FOR THE 2008 JEEP PATRIOT. IT HAS A CVT TRANSMISSION, WHICH IS A DANGEROUS TRANSMISSION BECAUSE IF IT OVERHEATS THE VEHICLE SHUTS DOWN. MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING IT ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE VEHICLE SHUT DOWN ON THE HIGHWAY, LUCKILY NEITHER HE NOT ANY OTHER MOTORIST WAS HURT. IN 2014 JEEP CHANGED FROM THE CVT TRANSMISSION ENTIRELY, SUGGESTING THEIR AWARENESS OF THE ISSUE WITH THIS TYPE OF TRANSMISSION. I LIVE AND DRIVE IN THE NEW YORK AREA. OFTEN WHEN I GO ON DRIVES OF 20 MILES OR MORE IN THE SUMMERTIME MONTHS, AND IT COULD BE ANYWHERE BETWEEN 70 TO 90 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT OUTSIDE, THE 2008 JEEP PATRIOT BECOMES A DANGEROUS VEHICLE TO DRIVE. WHEN TRAVELING WITH THIS VEHICLE ON A FREEWAY OR INTERSTATE AT A LEGALLY HIGH RATE OF SPEED, THE VEHICLE OFTEN EXPERIENCES SOME MALFUNCTION THAT CAUSES A SHUT DOWN. THE VEHICLE AUTOMATICALLY REDUCES ITS SPEED TO BELOW 30 MPH WITHOUT ANY WARNING OR SIGN OF STRESS. IMAGINE DRIVING DOWN I-95 WITH HUGE TRUCKS BEHIND YOU AND THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STOPS RESPONDING TO THE ACCELERATOR BUT RATHER AUTOMATICALLY SLOWS AND THERE IS NOTHING I (OR ANYONE) CAN DO TO PREVENT IT BECAUSE THERE IS NO WARNING. MY FIRST INSTINCT IS TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE SO I DON'T GET REAR ENDED FROM LARGE TRUCKS, BUT SOMETIMES THIS OCCURS WHERE THERE IS NO PLACE TO PULL OVER. IT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME AT LEAST 10 TIMES SINCE I BOUGHT THE JEEP IN SEPTEMBER OF 2008. I AM FEARFUL TO DRIVE THE JEEP LONG DISTANCES ON WARM DAYS, ESPECIALLY ON HIGHWAYS. THERE IS NO INDICATION THAT THE JEEP IS GOING TO SHUT DOWN FROM WHAT IS APPARENTLY AN OVERHEATED TRANSMISSION BECAUSE THE "TRANSMISSION TEMPERATURE WARNING LIGHT" ILLUMINATES AT THE SAME TIME THE VEHICLE BEGINS AUTOMATICALLY SLOWING DOWN. FURTHER, THE MECHANICS I HAVE BROUGHT THE CAR TO DO NO??T UNDERSTAND WHY IT HAPPENS. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE ON THE WEB AND LEARNED THAT THERE ARE HUNDREDS IF NOT THOUSANDS OF OTHER JEEP OWNERS WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME ISSUE. THIS VEHICLE SHOULD BE RECALLED AS IT PROVES A DANGEROUS HAZARD TO THE OCCUPANTS OF THE VEHICLE AS WELL AS OTHER DRIVERS ON THE ROAD, AND BECAUSE IT POSES A SERIOUS RISK TO MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY. OVER THE PAST YEAR MY JEEP HAS BEEN VERY SLUGGISH, ACCELERATES AT HIGHER RPM'S THAN NORMAL, "SHIFTS" ROUGH ( EVEN THOUGH IT IS A CVT AND DOESN'T HAVE GEARS). FOR EXAMPLE, WHEN I SLOW DOWN TO MAKE A TURN AND THEN PROCEED TO ACCELERATE AFTER THE TURN, MY JEEP HESITATES TO ACCELERATE, THE RPM'S PLUMMET AND THEN REACH TO OVER 3000 RPM'S BEFORE IT SLAMS/JERKS INTO GEAR TO RETURN TO AROUND 2000 RPM'S. TWICE MY JEEP HAS SHUTTERED AND STALLED WHILE AT RED LIGHTS. LAST WEEK AFTER BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY, AS SOON AS I PUT IT IN DRIVE THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL LIGHT STARTED FLASHING AND DINGING AT ME. MY JEEP WENT INTO "LIMP MODE" AND I WAS NOT ABLE TO TRAVEL 8 FEET FROM MY DRIVEWAY. I PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND ATTEMPTED TO RESTART MY JEEP 3 TIMES, AND EVERY TIME I HAD THE SAME "LIMP MODE"/ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL ISSUE. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DID NOT COME ON AT ALL. THE MANUAL STATES THAT "IF THE LIGHT IS FLASHING WHEN THE ENGINE IS RUNNING YOU MAY EXPERIENCE POWER LOSS, AN ELEVATED/ROUGH IDLE, AND INCREASED BRAKE PEDAL EFFORT, AND YOUR VEHICLE MAY REQUIRE TOWING. IMMEDIATE SERVICE IS REQUIRED.". THIS DOES NOT SOUND SAFE. I HAD IT TAKEN TO A CERTIFIED AUTO MECHANIC WHO SAID IT WAS A THROTTLE BODY ISSUE AND THAT I WOULD NEED TO HAVE IT REPLACED. HOWEVER, CHRYSLER/JEEP HAS 1,500-2,000 THROTTLE BODIES ON BACK ORDER AND I WAS TOLD IT WOULD TAKE SEVERAL MONTHS TO EVEN RECEIVE THE PART. I'M GLAD THAT MY JEEP DID NOT STALL OR GO INTO "LIMP MODE" WHILE TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY AS THIS COULD CAUSE A FATAL ACCIDENT. I CONSIDER MYSELF LUCKY, EVEN THOUGH I AM NOW MAKING CAR PAYMENTS ON A VEHICLE THAT WILL NOT RUN. THIS IS ALSO MY ONLY VEHICLE. WHILE DRIVING CROSS COUNTRY FROM OHIO TO NEVADA THE ENGINE ABRUPTLY, WITHOUT ANY WARNING QUIT RUNNING. THE ENGINE LIGHT DID NOT COME ON; THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE WAS NORMAL; I WAS CONTINUALLY WATCHING THE DASH TO TRY TO KEEP THE RPMS STEADY (WHILE CLIMBING GRADES) AT APPROX. 3000 RPM MAX. FOR FUEL ECONOMY. THIS OCCURRED ON I-80 IN THE MIDDLE OF WYOMING. FORTUNATELY ( LUCKILY) I WAS IN THE RIGHT HAND LANE SO I WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE BERM. WHILE WAITING 1.5 HOUR FOR A TOW TRUCK I OCCASIONALLY TRIED TO START THE ENGINE. IT WOULD TURN OVER BUT NOT START. AFTER A 30 MINUTE DRIVE ON THE TOW TRUCK TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP, APPARENTLY THE PROBLEM COOLED AND THE ENGINE DID START. THE NEXT DAY WHILE DRIVING UP A STEEP GRADE THE VEHICLE LURCHED. I TOOK IT THE DEALERSHIP IN RENO NV. THERE IS A SERVICE BULLETIN ALREADY IN EXISTENCE TO UPDATE THE SOFTWARE IN THIS VEHICLE'S COMPUTER AND TO INCLUDE A NEW FLASH DRIVE FOR THE TRANSMISSION SOLENOID. THEY WOULD NOT GUARANTEE THAT THIS WOULD SOLVE THE PROBLEM. I HAVE DRIVEN NEARLY 3000 MILES SINCE THEN WITHOUT A PROBLEM. HOW COULD MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP ( BRUNSWICK OHIO) NOT HAVE ALERTED ME TO NEEDING A SOFTWARE UPDATE? I HAD THE JEEP THERE 4 DAYS BEFORE LEAVING ON THIS TRIP FOR THE "LIFETIME POWERETRAIN WARRANTY" INSPECTION. THEN, 300 MILES AFTER THE SOFTWARE UPDATE IN RENO. THE RIGHT REAR WHEEL BEARING FAILED. WE BOUGHT THE JEEP USED WITH ABOUT 50K MILES ON IT. AFTER A SHORT TIME THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON FOR A VALVE TO BE REPLACED. ALSO, WHEN WE USE THE TURN SIGNAL THE DOME LIGHTS COME ON. OF COURSE EVEN THOUGH WE BOUGHT THE WARRANTY NONE OF THESE PROBLEMS ARE COVERED. I DON'T KNOW HOW THE LIGHTING SYSTEM FAILING COULD POSSIBLE BE WEAR OR TEAR OR MISUSE, BUT THEY SAY ITS NOT THEIR FAULT AND IT'S NOT COVERED. SO IN THE 3 DAY PERIOD WHERE WE WERE WAITING TO HAVE THOSE PROBLEMS FIXED WE HAD ANOTHER PROBLEM. MY WIFE AND I WERE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT ABOUT 50MPH AND THE TIRE COMPLETELY AND INSTANTLY WENT FLAT ALMOST CAUSING US TO WRECK! WITH MY 4 YEAR OLD SON IN THE BACK! WE TAKE THE TIRE TO A TIRE SHOP AND THEY SAY IT WAS THE VALVE AND IT'S A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH OUR VEHICLE FOR THAT YEAR AND EXPLAINS EVERYTHING ABOUT IT. I CALL 2 OTHER TIRE SHOPS TO VERIFY WHAT HE SAID AND THEY BOTH AUTOMATICALLY KNEW ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND SAID IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME AND I ALSO NEED TO HAVE THE OTHERS REPLACED COSTING OVER $350!!! WE TELL THE JEEP DEALERSHIP ABOUT IT AND THEY SAY WE HIT A ROCK DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND THEY KNOW OF NO SUCH PROBLEMS. I GOOGLE THE PROBLEM OF TPMS AND SURE ENOUGH TONS OF WEBSITES TALKING ABOUT EVERYONE'S BALL JOINTS GOING BAD, AND TPMS PROBLEMS. NOT ONLY ARE THEY ACTING LIKE IT'S NOT A KNOWN PROBLEM WHEN IT CLEARLY IS...THEY PUT ME AND MY FAMILIES' LIVES AT RISK BY ACTING LIKE NOTHING IS WRONG AND NOT LETTING US KNOW THAT THE PROBLEM WILL LIKELY CONTINUE HAPPENING TO THE OTHER TIRES!!!!
