My jeep would suddenly jerk forward almost rear ending people at red lights without any warning. While traveling at approximately 45 mph the engine light came on my jeep. As I went to pull over the engine started bucking/jerking then the engine light flashed. I was barely able to pull over on the side of the road before the car completely stalled. I had to have towed to a dealership as it was no longer drivable. I was almost on the highway. The dealership said I had total engine failure and should buy a new car. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. I ASSOCIATE THE FAILURE WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V552000 (ENGINE) That has been open since of 11/2013. But my vehicles VIN “wasn’t included”. I was driving with my four small kids in my jeep.
Driving normal when i lost control of the throttle jeep went into limp mode, the ETC , traction control, and check engine lights came on, got a uo4o1 code, if i was on the interstate could have been bad when it went into limp mode, the electronic throttle control was bad

BUT THE MOST POPULAR ISSUES IS THE RED LIGHTNING BOLT- CHECK ENGINE LIGHT(U0401)- AND THE TRACTION CONTROLF LIGHTS COME ON THE DASH AND THE CAR IS STUCK IN "LIMP MODE" AND EVERYONE IS SAYING ON JEEPS SITE THAT ITS THE THROTTLE BODY AND THEN SOME STILL HAVE PROBLEMS AFTER THAT. I SAW ONLINE THERE IS A RECALL FOR THE BREAKS, THE ENGINE IN 2013, AND THE AIRBAGS AND SEAT BELT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE BUT I GO TO ALL THE OFFICIAL SITES AND WHEN I USE MY VIN THE ONLY RECALL IS FOR THE SEATBELT. THE PARTRIOT RANDOMLY STALLS WHILE TRAVELLING AT ANY SPEED. THE ENGINE SHUTS OFF AND CAR HAS TO COAST TO A STOP. IT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE SOMEONE IS INJURED OR KILLED. MULTIPLE MECHANICS AND THE JEEP DEALERSHIP HAVE NO CLUE AS TO HOW TO FIX THE PROBLEM. ONLINE RESEARCH SHOWS THIS IS A MAJOR ISSUE FOR MANY JEEP OWNERS, NOT JUST PATRIOTS. JEEP / CHRYSLER HAS A MAJOR ISSUE AND WILL NOT ACKNOWLEDGE OR ADDRESS IT. IF THEY REFUSE TO DO ANYTHING, THEY SHOULD BE PREPARED TO PAY FOR THEIR LACK OF ADDRESSING THIS CRITICAL ISSUE. IT TAKES LESS THAN A MINUTE TO SEARCH AND SEE HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE AFFECTED WITH ENGINE STALLING ISSUES WITH JEEP AUTOMOBILES. THE CAR SHAKES WHILE ON IDLE AND THERE IS A LOUD HELICOPTER SOUND COMING FROM THE BACK OF THE CAR. I TOOK TO TO 3 DIFFERENT JEEP DEALER AND NOBODY COULD TELL ME WHAT WAS WRONG WITH THE CAR. ABOUT 3 MONTHS AFTER THAT THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT ANY WARNING. THIS HAPPENED AS I TURNED ON MY STREET TO GO HOME. I HAD TO WAIT A FEW MINUTES AND IT TURNED IT BACK ON AND DROVE AS IF NOTHING HAPPENED. I TOOK IT TO LOCAL MECHANIC AND HE COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FIRING ANY CODES NOR WAS THERE ANY WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASH. THE LATEST INCIDENT HAPPEND ON AUGUST 18, 2019 DRVING HOME FROM A CAMPING TRIP. I HAD 2 PASSENGERS IN THE CAR WITH ME.THE CAR BUCKS AND JERKS WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE CAR STALLS WHILE IM DRVING THE SPEED LIMIT AT 60 MPH. THANKFULLY I WAS IN THE SLOW LANE AND WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE RIGHT. AFTER BEING ALL SHAKEN UP, AGAIN I HAD WAITIED A FEW MINUTES AND CAR STARTED AND DROVE AS IF NOTING HAPPEND. IT WAS ONE OF THE SCARIEST THINGS I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO LOCAL MECHANICS AND THEY DINT KNOW WHATS WRONG WITH IT. SO I AM CURRENTLY DRVING MY CAR AND WONDERING WHEN THE CAR WILL STALL AGAIN. IT STILL BUCKS AND JERKS, FEELS LIKE IT WILL STALL SO I TAKE MY FOOT OFF THE GAS PEDDLE AND THAT SEEMS TO HELP. CALLED UP JEEP CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY WERE COMPLETELY UNWILLING TO COVER ANY COSTS OF THE REPAIR OR ADMIT THERE WAS ANY ISSUE. THANKFULLY THIS ISSUE DID NOT HAPPEN WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY OR I COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY HURT.

I PULLED OFF INTO A PARKING LOT AND TURNED MY CAR ON AND OFF A FEW TIMES TO RESET THE COMPUTER. IT FINALLY DID AFTER TURNING IT ON AND OFF FIVE TIMES. ALL THE LIGHTS WENT OFF. SO I TRIED TO DRIVE IT TO WORK AND ONCE I DROVE DOWN THE CITY ROAD A LITTLE WAYS (MAYBE A MILE). THE CAR JERKED AND ATTEMPTED TO SHIFT UP AND THEN DOWNSHIFTED AND MY ENGINE THEN REVED TO FIVE THOUSAND RPM. AND ALL THE LIGHTS TURNED BACK ON AND MY CAR JERK VIOLENTLY BACK AND FORTH. THE RPM'S STAYED AT THREE TO FOUR THOUSAND REVING MY ENGINE NEEDLESSLY. I FINALLY PULLED OFF THE ROAD INTO A PARKING LOT AND HAD TO HAVE MY CAR TOWED TO A SHOP. THE JEEP CERTIFIED MECHANIC REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY. I HAVE HEARD OF A LOT OF OTHER PEOPLE WITH THIS ISSUE

ALREADY ON THE HIGHWAY DRIVING AT 70 MPH, I NOTICED THAT IT WAS HARDER TO ACCELERATE. I WAS PUSHING DOWN ON THE GAS PEDAL AND MY JEEP WAS NOT PICKING UP ANY SPEED. THE TACHOMETER WAS PUSHING THE LINE IN READ BETWEEN 7 & 8 AS I WOULD TRY TO ACCELERATE. COUPLE DAYS LATER DRIVING IN TOWN, IT DID IT AGAIN ONLY IT TOOK AWHILE TO ACCELERATE AND GET TO 30-40 MPH. NONE OF THESE REPLACEMENTS HAS FIXED THIS ISSUE. SOMETIMES THE 4WD AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT WOULD IGNITE DURING THESE EPISODES. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE IN FOR DIAGNOSTICS, BUT NOTHING POPPED ON THEIR END AND I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THE ONLY WAY FOR THEM TO KNOW WHAT IS WRONG IS IF IT HAPPENS WHEN THEY HAVE IT. FIRST - OIL IS CHANGED ON TIME AND SPARK PLUGS WITH COILS WERE REPLACED. MAINTENANCE IS DONE ON THE CAR. APPROXIMATELY AT AROUND 58K MILES, THE CAR BEGAN TO "SKIP" WHEN ACCELERATING WHEN IT REACHES OVER 20 MPH AND REACHING BETWEEN 3-4 RPM. THIS WAS A RANDOM OCCURRENCE. TODAY AT 60K MILES, THE CAR ON CRUISE CONTROL, ON A SMALL INCLINE IN THE ROAD, CAME TO AN ALMOST COMPLETE STOP (FROM 65 MPH) AND THEN ACCELERATED AS IF I STOMPED ON THE GAS - REACHING ALMOST 5 RPM BEFORE I WAS ABLE TO CANCEL THE CRUISE CONTROL. THE LIGHTS FLASHED BRIEFLY ON THE DASH BOARD BUT NO ERROR MESSAGES REMAINED LIGHT. I CALLED A REPUTABLE REPAIR GUY AND WITHOUT ERROR LIGHTS THERE ISN'T MUCH ANYONE CAN TELL YOU. THERE ARE SEVERAL OTHER THREADS ABOUT THIS ISSUE BUT NOTHING BEING DONE BY CHRYSLER DUE TO THE LIMITED NUMBER OF ACCIDENTS. MY INCIDENT TODAY OCCURRED DURING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC AND I COULD VERY WELL HAVE BEEN REAR-ENDED OR REAR-ENDED SOMEONE ELSE. WILL BE CONTACTING THE DEALERSHIP FIRST THING IN THE MORNING BUT AM VERY CONCERNED AS I WORK OVER 20 MINUTES AWAY FROM MY HOME. ALSO VERIFIED NO RECALLS BY CALLING 1-800-247-9753 FOR THIS ISSUE.

CAR WAS IN COLD WEATHER BUT NEVER HAD THIS ISSUE BEFORE, IN MN. TEMPS THE MANUAL SAID IT WAS THE ETC ELECTRIC THROTTLE CONTROL, BUT DIDN'T INDICATE IT WAS A MAJOR CONCERN, UNLESS LIGHT STAYED ON . WHAT WOULD BE A MAJOR CONCERN OTHER THAN GETTING REAR ENDED BY A PILE OF CARS? I'VE NEVER HAD THIS WITH ANY CAR, IT WAS TOTALLY A NEW LIGHT I'VE NEVER SEEN. I MADE IT TO WORK AFTERWARDS. ON THE WAY BACK HOME, THE ETC LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN -- FLASHING, THEN OFF -- CAR STAYED ROLLING. PERHAPS IT IS MORE INCLINED TO STALL GOING UPHILL WITH THE ETC, AND WHILE IT'S ROLLING DOWNHILL, LESS INCLINED TO STALL? WHO KNOWS, BUT I DON'T THINK THIS IS JUST A COUPLE PATRIOTS OUT THERE, BECAUSE THERE'S ALREADY MORE THAN 500 PEOPLE WHO'VE COMPLAINED OF THIS ISSUE. I CONTACTED DEALER - BUT THEY DID NOT ADMIT TO ANY RECALLS FOR MY PATRIOT - EVEN WHEN I STATED OTHERS HAVE HAD THIS EXACT ISSUE. I AM VERY RELUCTANT TO TAKE MY JEEP ANYWHERE BUT A FEW BLOCKS IN THIS WINTER WEATHER. THIS WAS TRULY THE FIRST TIME I FELT UNSAFE IN IT. MILEAGE IS 89,000. ON THREE OCCASIONS IN THE PAST TWO YEARS AND THREE MONTHS MY 2014 JEEP PATRIOT BEGAN SURGING AND STALLING DURING HIGHWAY DRIVING. EACH TIME THIS HAPPENS THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL INDICATOR LIGHT COMES ON. THE SOLUTION OFFERED IN THE OWNERS MANUAL IS A REAL JOKE, BECAUSE IT INSTRUCTS THE OWNER TO PULL OVER, PUT THE CAR IN PARK, AND TURN THE CAR ON AND OFF SEVERAL TIMES UNTIL THE SYSTEM RESETS. THE SECOND TIME THIS HAPPENED I TOOK THE JEEP TO A JEEP DEALER WHO SAID THEY DOWNLOADED NEW SOFTWARE THAT WOULD SOLVE THE PROBLEM. HOWEVER, IT DID NOT CORRECT THE ISSUE, FOUR MONTHS LATER IT HAPPENED AGAIN. THIS IS NOT A SOLUTION, IT IS A DANGEROUS BAND-AID AND JEEP SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL AND FIX THE PROBLEM.

THE CHECK ENGINE, CHANGE OIL ERROR MESSAGE, AND AN ABNORMAL WARNING LIGHT DISPLAYED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY CONTROL FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 63,000.

FIDDLED WITH GEAR SHIFT AND ACCELERATION RESUMED. ON THE WAY BACK HAD SAME EXPERIENCE BUT WHEN RPM STARTED TO DROP, TURNED OFF CC AND OPERATION WAS NORMAL. NO PROBLEMS WITH SMALLER HILLS. MADE SAME TRIP SEVERAL TIMES PRIOR WITH RPM AROUND 3500 AND SPEED ABOUT 60 IN SAME SPOTS.

I RENTED A 2014 JEEP PATRIOT FROM ONE OF THE RENTAL CAR COMPANIES ON FEB 17 2015 AND USED IT FOR ABOUT FIVE DAYS BEFORE THE FOLLOWING INCIDENT HAPPENED. ON FEB 22 , I WAS DRIVING THE CAR ON I-5 GOING SOUTH. I MADE AN EXIT AFTER DRIVING FOR ABOUT 2 HOURS ON THE FREEWAY TO REFUEL WHICH I DID. IT WAS BRIGHT SUNNY DAY THE TIME WAS AROUND NOON. I MOVED AWAY FROM THE GAS PUMP AND WANTED TO PARK IT BEHIND THE GAS STATION. I FOUND A SPACE BETWEEN TWO CARS AND AS I WAS SLOWLY MOVING TOWARDS THE PARKING SPACE THE CAR ACCELERATED AT AN INCREDIBLE SPEED, BROKE INTO A FENCE OF A PRIVATE RESIDENCE, THEN HIT A PLAY HOUSE (FOR CHILDREN) AND LANDED IN THE SWIMMING POOL. BECAUSE OF MY IGNORANCE ABOUT SUCH INCIDENCES WHEREBY CARS SELF-ACCELERATE, I THOUGHT I MIGHT HAVE ACCIDENTALLY STEPPED ON THE GAS AND WHEN THE POLICE ARRIVED AT THE SCENE AND ASKED ME WHAT HAPPENED, I SAID, "MAY BE I STEPPED ON THE GAS". UPON DISCUSSING THIS MATTER WITH FRIENDS AND CHECKING ON THE INTERNET, I DISCOVERED THAT CARS ACCELERATED ON THEIR OWN FROM TIME TO TIME. I HAVE NO DOUBT IN MY MIND NOW THAT THE JEEP PATRIOT JUST DID THAT. I HAVE OVER 40 YEARS OF DRIVING EXPERIENCE AND I DON'T REMEMBER A SINGLE INSTANCE WHEN I STEPPED ON THE GAS PEDAL WHILE TRYING TO BRING A CAR TO A STOP. THE RENTAL CAR COMPANY SAID THAT THEY HAD THE CAR INSPECTED AND SENT ME A LETTER THEY RECEIVED FROM THE MANUFACTURER STATING THEY DID NOT FIND ANY MALFUNCTION PROBLEM. THE CAR WAS IMMERSED IN THE POOL ABOUT HALF WAY AND I AM NOT EVEN SURE HOW THE INSPECTION CAN YIELD A RELIABLE RESULT FOR A CAR PULLED OUT OF A SWIMMING POOL. *TR

I WAS SHIFTED INTO DRIVE AND WOULD HIT THE GAS PEDAL AND NOTHING WOULD HAPPEN. THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO WARNING THAT IS WAS GOING TO STALL, NO INDICATOR LIGHTS EVER TURNED ON. I PLACED THE JEEP IN PARK AND TURNED OFF THE IGNITION. TURNED IT BACK ON, IT WAS NOT IMMEDIATE THERE WAS SOME LAG ON THE START AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT AGAIN. I TOOK IT TO MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP TODAY TO BE INSPECTED AFTER A FEW HOURS THEY TOLD ME THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG AND SENT ME ON MY WAY. I HAVE INVESTIGATED FURTHER AND FOUND THAT THE 2011/2012 MODELS HAVE BEEN INVESTIGATED FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM IN THE PAST. THIS IS A TERRIFYING AND DANGEROUS OCCURRENCE THAT MUST BE RESOLVED.
