Vehicle stalls when idle at stop signs or stop lights. When restarted while driving engine stops running. Idling is sporadic.
Vehicle began not accelerating and then shut-off. Check engine light was not on, but it sputters. I put it in the shop and was told it's the engine and needs replacing.
While driving home from a wedding with a passenger in my car, the engine for my Jeep Patriot stalled several times. The car would come to a stop and was difficult to control when the stalling occurred, putting both myself and my passenger at risk of a traffic accident. The car was towed to an independent service center which documented in their reports the engine stalling repeatedly. This independent service center was not able to alleviate the issue despite replacing the crankshaft and camshaft sensors. I then took the car to my local Jeep dealership, which performed further repairs on the crankshaft sensor and wiring harnesses, thereby resolving the problem. The vehicle and components were not inspected by any other parties to my knowledge. There were no warning lights or prior indication that the engine was about to stall, adding to the danger associated with this incident.
My engine has stalled in mid drive causing sever risk of crash. No check engine light on and does not occur every day.
My son was driving his vehicle on the interstate in Florida when all of the sudden engine stopped working. He was able to navigate to the side and eventually it started up and made back to campus. Codes had came up so took to Firestone and changed spark plugs. We checked NHTSA website for engine recalls and showed had some but not for his specific vehicle per VIN. Only sounded a little better so took to Jeep dealership and paid for diagnostic evaluation and told “alternator falling apart” but nothing wrong with engine or transmission. They changed a belt Dealership also said no recall for his particular vehicle. Problem continued so took to local mechanism who replaced alternator and a good bit better. So between 8/20/25-8/26/25, he took car to 3 repair shops that couldn’t find the problem completely. Then on [XXX] while driving on interstate, son saw smoke then fire coming from under hood. Car caught on fire. Was able to pull over and call 911 who had fire department put out fire. He survived fire but emotionally a wreak. While driving my 2016 Jeep Patriot on multiple occasions, the engine suddenly shuts off without warning. After shutting off the car would also have alot of issues restarting. I finally took it to multiple mechanics and they all indicated they couldn't find out exactly what was the problem, given nothing showed up on their diagnostics testing's. After the car finally wouldn't start anymore, i got it towed to the dealership and they diagnosed the car with failed crankshaft sensor (which has already been recalled on a chunk of the 2016 Jeep patriots manufactured).

The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. In addition, the vehicle was repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number 16V907000 (Engine and Engine Cooling); in 2017; however, the failure reoccurred. Additionally, the battery was replaced; however, the failure reoccurred. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 117,500.

I received an alert on my insurance portal, that my vehicle type ( Jeep Patriot 2016) had a recall, S89 for the camshaft and crankshaft sensors . I noticed that my vehicle has the same issues that is caused by this recall. My vehicle has been stalling and the check engine light when off recently. I had it looked at and the obd reader displayed that there were misfires displaying in the cylinder and issues connected to the camshaft and crank shaft sensor at. I called the recall line but they stated it wasn’t associated with my specific car but I feel like my vehicle should be included in this recall due to the exact issue I am experiencing that is listed in the recall. My vin is [XXX] . I feel I should be included and the issues are causing potential safety risks when driving. On 3 separate occasions while driving the car will chime and ABS, traction control & a third light (I think its the low tire) quickly blinks on and goes off again. The car will still be on and in motion. Today, the car shut off while idle. No lights were on prior and I had been driving for just under 10 minutes. After a period of 2-3 minutes, I tried to crank the engine again and it came on, no lights on dash. I drove to my destination.

There was no warning light illuminated. The contact was able to pull over to the side of the road. The vehicle was able to restart; however, the abnormal clicking sound became significantly louder. The vehicle was towed to Allstar Automotive, where it was diagnosed that there were metal shavings inside the engine. The mechanic recommended the replacement or rebuilding of the engine. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.

Six months after we purchased our 2016 Jeep Patriot Sport 4w the check engine light illuminated on and off for a couple of weeks. After that time frame it became a permanent fixture. As well as unpredictable and frequent stalling while driving or stopping at red lights/deceleration of gas pedal of vehicle. The vehicle would not start again for hours...even days after these episodes making it difficult and unaffordable to operate safely. A diagnostic was performed when the vehicle decided to start days later and the crankshaft position sensor code was read by the trouble code. We then called a mobile mechanic who charged us $325 to replace the crankshaft position sensor/ relearn included to no avail. Although did confirm the part would need to be replaced. The vehicle hasn't started since the replacement therefor a relearn could not be performed. Researching the possible problems, I noticed many complaints on the same and similar models as well as a high rate of reoccurrence w the same parts (cam/crankshaft position sensor). We notified the dealership and they informed us it would be $199 to run a diagnostic if we could afford to have it towed to them... Witch we could not. I have included the receipt from the mobile mechanic and it is in fact available for inspection upon request.

While driving my vehicle I was about to get on a highway ramp I’m am unsure of the speed but I was turning into the lane that gets you to the ramp well my car suddenly stalled and jerked very weirdly I came to a complete stop in the middle of the road while cars were coming. There were no warning signs nor anything that could’ve warned me. I had this happen to me twice. IThe second time I was driving at unknown speed about to get on the high way and my car suddenly stopped and I was almost rear ended. When I originally got the car it was turning on and off also. I feel very unsafe in this car I have spent so much money in repairs and I think this concern is bigger than just a repair. I have not been able to drive my car. I have codes on my car to reflect the issues I am experiencing with this vehicle.
CAMSHAFT and CRANKSHAFT position sensors keep failing. I have gotten these replaced at a local auto shop 4 times in the 3 years I've had the vehicle. Each time they're replaced the PCM is flashed but issue comes back a couple days to a week later either when coming to a stop at an intersection or when driving up to 50 miles per hour, the acceleration doesn't work properly and RPMS shoot down to zero and back up. Car has also shut off when coming to a stop under 5 MPH and sometimes starts up again. Engine light and TCS light both come on when either sensor fails, car runs rough or doesn't start resulting in a tow to a shop. This is a huge safety risk and can cause a crash at any time. VIN does not have recall, but has all the issues described in the recall.

Incident One: 2016 Jeep Patriot stalled at 45 miles per hour. Dealership said crankshaft position sensor was defective and needed to be replaced for $550. They said there was a Recall date 2016-12-15, Recall no.16V907000 Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2016 Dodge Journey, Jeep Compass, and Jeep Patriot vehicles manufactured May 9, 2016, to July 15, 2016. The crankshaft or camshaft sensor may only work intermittently, causing the engine to stall, but that it didn't apply to my Jeep's VIN, even though same year, make and model and same issue. Paid $550 to have repaired. Incident Two: 2015 Jeep Patriot stalled at 45 miles per hour on highway in rush hour traffic. Red TPS lightning bolt, yellow TCS warning, and red Check Engine lights came on as Jeep stalled. Dealership advised that Throttle Position Sensor had failed, and as it is integrated with the Throttle Body assembly, that the entire Throttle Body assembly needed to be replaced for $800. Dealership also advised that there was a recall for this issue for 2016 Jeep Patriots like mine, but that it didn't apply to my Jeep's VIN. Almost crashed both times with passengers, none of whom were pleased. Why don't these two recalls include my vehicle, when it is the same two issues recalled for other 2016 Jeep Patriots??
The check engine light came on. Checked it at an AutoZone. The error code was P0335, crankshaft position sensor. On the way to my mechanic, my vehicle stalled three time in 2 miles and had to pull over to a side. I felt lucky there were no vehicles behind me. Took it to a repair shop and the mechanic scanned it again. He told me to take it to a dealer because after entering my VIN, he was notified by his computer system that there is a recall notice out for this VIN. (S89) Called a Chrysler dealer but was told that there is no recall by the VIN. Called Chrysler corp and explained the situation. The rep said since the basic warranty expired, the repair service will not be covered under the recall. The engine was keep stalling and I had to repair the vehicle at the mechanics shop. Replaced the crankshaft position sensor and the harness assembly. After the repair, the problem no longer exists. Cost of repair totals $410.
MY JEEP IS STALLING WHILE I AM DRIVING, THE ONLY LIGHT ON MY DASH IS THE TRACTING CONTROL LIGHT WHEN THIS HAPPENS AND IT HAPPENS RANDOM MOSTLY ON THE FREEWAY WHICH POSE A RISK OF A GETTING INTO A ACCIDENT. I REPLACE THE THOTTLE BODY ON IT NEW SPARK PLUGS AND WIRES AND IT KEEPS STALLING
Th crankshaft Sensor failed multiple times. This happened 4 times within 2 days while I was merging onto the freeway, people behind me had to slam on their breaks or swerve to avoid hitting me. I took it to the shop and they identified it was the crankshaft sensor. They also explained that there is a recall in place for my year and model, but that my VIN indicated that "my jeep was made 2 weeks prior to the recall window of dates."
On several different occasions my car has stalled in traffic and idled down for I couldn't drive had to pull over and turn it off and turn it back on to go again the check engine light then stability light will come on. Camshaft code I have fixed the cam and crankshaft sensors first time then it failed again so I changed them a second time now it's failed again .I almost got rear-ended a couple times very dangerous. Now my step button on the steering wheel and the horn quit working all of a sudden. I found out on the site of mopar that it is the electrical connector and terminal both cam sensors and crank sensors on certain vin numbers,all 2016 jeep patriots should have been included as others are having the same issues. I cannot afford to keep on putting money into this problem. This can be confirmed by my mechanic which replaced it twice. The dates this has happened are April 2023 worked for awhile then February 2024 happened again changed cam and crank sensors again. April 16 started failing again, limp mode have to pull over turn engine off turn it back on to go again. Every week at first now every few days. Engine light then traction stability light can't go over 10 miles per hour, pull over turn engine off turn it back on stability light goes off but engine light stays on for a day goes off the next day. I do not feel safe driving long distance anywhere and this can wear down your engine and vehicle life. I bought this car paid a lot of money for it for the comfort of knowing I would have something Dependable in my old age and can not keep on putting money into a problem that should have been on the recall list also. It only has 115,000 miles on it. I'm going to the Jeep dealer next week to see if Mopar can resolve this and pay for this issue. Also this happens if you're going 1 to 55 miles per hour reverse or forward doesn't matter.
My 2016 Jeep Patriot was taken in for intermittent stalling and my engine was stalling. This happened a few times. My car RPM went from 3 to 0 and I could not accelerate. I had to put the car in park and turn the car off and start it back up. The first time my car would not start back up right away. Luckily there was no one close enough behind me nor were I was going fast enough to be in an accident. I go it to a repair shop and was told my crankshaft and sensor would need to be replaced. My car is currently being serviced at Gandrud Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The phone number is (920) 468-1212. I previously looked up a recall for Jeep Patriots and there was a recall for crankshaft "Recall # [XXX]. Unfortunately my car was manufactured just after the date of [XXX] which is the cutoff of the recall. This recall is exactly what is currently being replaced on my car. I think this recall needs to be extended as this could have been a more serious accident and to help prevent more future accidents. My car should have been included in this recall. The site says my vin number is not affected by the recall 16V907000, however, I believe it is. My car loses power while driving exactly as it is described for this recall and it is unsafe. I am scared. I have almost been in several accidents due to this with my 3 year old son in the car.
Several incidents when driving where the vehicle hesitates then the RPMs drop to zero and the Vehicle does not accelerate when gas pedal is pushed. Vehicle does not die each time just does not react to gas pedal being applied and does not increase in speed. Only dashboard light that comes on is the loss of traction. Incident causes driver to have to pull off road, place vehicle in park, turn off and on. Then can drive again.
I have a 2016 jeep patriot that I purchased with very little miles on it used. Starting about 2 weeks ago I had an incident on the highway going 60mph and it just shut off and lost all power for a few seconds and started back up on its own. When this happened my steering got hard, brakes didnt work properly and could not accelerate. Was very scary and has been doing it more frequently now. This is a serious safety hazard for myself and others around me. I saw that there is a recall s89 for this model but mine is not within the dates and this makes no sense as it is the exact same problem. I ask that you respectfully reissue this recall to include a wider range of dates. Not to mention it is a fairly expensive repair that has to be done and should be taken care of by the manufacturer.

Since 2021 I have been complaining odd a smell (Burning/ Rotten) upon 1st starting up the vehicle. It was on the faint side when 1st discovered. Taken into dealership I bought it from when 1 first noticed. Dealership said no authorized Jeep mechanics on site and recommended to take it to a authorized Jeep dealer. Taken to Jeep dealership 2022 with same complaint. Replaced inside air filters. No resolution/ taken to 3rd dealership 2023 late winter. It wasn't till )ct.2023 Same dealership taken to in late winter found Converter: Exhaust and CATL crack in maniverter. Over $3,000 in repairs. Who can help me this car there is something wrong with it because I ca still smell the smell after spending all this money
Traction light will come on intermittently and abs and brake lights will flash and go away intermittently and all lights on dash and headlights will dim, radio shuts off, rpms will drop to 0 then go back to normal all while driving. Both camshaft sensors have been replaced twice in under a year. All spark plugs have been replaced twice in under a year as well as the crankshaft sensor. Something is constantly draining my battery (headlights are set on auto and interior lights are always set to off) There was a recall for camshaft/crankshaft wiring but my vehicle was not included in the recall.
I would like to know if the vehicle was in the flood of 2020 1st of all. I've had this vehicle in Many times before I was told there was no maintenance work done prior to me buying it from a dealer. Been addressing a bad odder upon starting the vehicle for over a year. The smell is in the cab also. Now being told it could be the catalytic converter @ 51,000 miles on the vehicle. I've already spent over $1,300.00 to cover normal maintenance that was never done by the dealer I bought the vehicle from. My extended warranty ran out a month or so ago. This has put my life in danger being I'm breathing exhaust/ fumes. Please advise & thank you
The crankshaft or cam shaft sensor is malfunctioning and my engine stalls while I am driving. This has happened about 10 times now. I found a recall for this issue on 2016 Jeep Patriots, but my VIN does not come up with any recalls. I believe this recall needs to be expanded.
Vehicles stalls during driving. Fault code relates to crankshaft sensor. Other vehicles from same year have been recalled but this vehicle was not included. Vehicle has stalled at highway speed numerous times.
Vehicle suddenly stalls with no prior warning, both while driving and at rest. This cannot be duplicated and does not throw codes on the code scanner. Occasionally it will "hiccup" and keep going instead of a complete stall. RPM drops to zero and will then jump back to their prior reading. The vehicle becomes impossible to control (stalled so no speed st all abd difficult to steer). Mechanic cannot duplicate problem or find code on their reader. We have replaced the throttle body and one camshaft sensor but not the other, more difficult to reach sensor. There is a current recall for camshaft/crankshaft sensor that applies to some 2016 jeep patriots but ours falls outside of that manufacturing date range.
On June 14th, I wrote a complaint of having issues of my car stopping on me on June 6. Thinking it was the fuel system, since that was the message that O'Reilly's gave me. I was out of commission till July 16th, when I got the fuel vapor leak detection pump & the canister purge valve replaced. That same day my car ran fine with 2 times within the travel back home, of my car having issues starting up again. I managed to make it to O'Reilly's to see what the issue may have been now. I was told that again the message read evap leak & now a new warning of the crankshaft senor. I was able to still drive home and let the car rest. The next day, July 17th, I was on my way to work and a block before I was to get on the freeway, my car shut off on me again! I managed to get to the gas station. I was only 10 minutes from the house and it took 3 hours of stopping & going on a busy street and only getting so far back up the street, that I again had to be towed back to the house. Where my car has remained parked since then. The warning lights are still the 'Check Engine" & now the "Electric Throttle Control Warning" Two weekends ago, a family member helped jumpstart it, it was running fine until I took the cables off and my car turned off again. I just came on the site just to see if there may have been another recall for my car. And it turns out the very issue is the crankshaft senor that was recalled in 2017! I've only had this vehicle since January 2022, and between the 2 owners & dealerships before, this should of been fixed! My vehicle was made in May of 2016 which was apart of the recall group! And this issue is showing up literally 7 years later. I don't know what the next process is for how to get a recall fixed, especially since my car is not drivable! Also, I don't know what else may go wrong after this second issue is to be corrected. I'm unsure if this vehicle has been fully inspected before selling it! I don't feel safe in driving in its uncertainty!
When you apply accelerator the car will not accelerate in a safe timely manner, it seems like the car is choking and will not pickup speed, sometimes will chug and the engine light comes, it also happens on local roads. It has been a continuous problem and a serious safety issue on the highway, when it happens you have to pull over turn engine off, restart and hope it has reset. The car has been brought back to the dealer numerous times they say they don’t know what the problem is.
My 2016 Jeep Patriot 4X4 engine light is staying on. When I took it to a mechanic to have it read it stats faulty cramshaft and camshaft position sensors. My engine has stalled, loss of acceleration and power, shuddering, and jerking that is continuously happens. Jeep manufactures said its not there problem. I need help with my vehicle, not just for my safety but for the safety of my kids. Also the problem is only getting worse.
To whom it may concern I purchased a 2016 Jeep Patriot Sport on May 21 2022, the vehicle since date of purchase has been stalling at acceleration speeds of 65 MPH, as well as in reverse while parking while idle at stop light and stop sign upon stalling NO warning lamp has been present. I have contacted multiple jeep dealerships upon getting a diagnostic for this matter as well as recalls, I was told by jeep by customer service that they did not do recalls on the 2016 models any longer. In the mist of trying to get it serviced , By JEEP the vehicle was serviced 3 times in total by NYC AUTOMART with no avail. The crank shaft sensor was changed BY NYC AUTOMART twice still no solutions.
Crankshaft sensor failure. Engine would sputter, meaning there was a "kick-back" feeling while driving at a constant speed and engine rpm. After every other sputter, engine would completely shutoff (meaning 0 rpm) and power steering would deactivate. This sudden loss of driving capability occurred on the highway. Major safety concern. Went to nearest maintenance shop, issue with CRANKSHAFT sensor. This is already being recalled on numerous 2016 Jeep Patriot models but not my VIN number. Jeep needs to extend their recall on this model.
The RPMs in my Jeep Patriot will randomly drop to zero and the car does not accelerate when you press the gas pedal. After a period of time the RPMs will jump back up and the car will start working properly again. The car never turns off and the engine is fully running. No warning lights or codes are activated when this happens. This has happened to me in the middle of traffic as well as on the open highway. The dealership is unable to diagnose the problem.
I've had my car since January 2022. Since last year, there's been a clicking noise once I begin driving & it'll click for awhile. For these past 3 months my check engine light has came on. The message from O'Reilly's read "Evaporative Emissions System Small Leak Detected." The 1st time I was told to get the Emissions System Cleaner. The light went off. Second month, light came back on with the same message. This time I was told to buy a new gas cap. I did, light never went off. I bought the advance emissions cleaner & the light went off. This being month 3, light came on again June 2nd. Again told to get gas cap, I did & light never went off. Last week Tuesday, getting on the freeway, I accelerated as I got over 5 lanes. When I got to Lane 3, my car jerked & by the time I got to the 5th lane, my vehicle started decelerating, with my traction control light coming on. I pulled over, being on the left side of the freeway. Turned my car off then restarted it and it wouldn't drive though my foot was on the gas pedal. Turned off then back on after a bit and it started driving slow then stopped, turning it off. Sat for a bit longer then started her again. Drove on the shoulder to get a clearance to get to the other side, by the time I got to Lane 3 the car started decelerating again & the traction light came back on. While trying to be safe, I managed to get over the last 2 lanes and had to stop now on the right shoulder of the freeway. Turned it off. Sat for awhile and started it back up so I can get to the next exit. I drove the shoulder & even at a slower speed the car shut off again. Traction light came on each time it decelerate. Sat again for another while. And this time when I turned it back on, it started shaking which I immediately turned it off! I had to get towed. I researched, there's a recall for the time frame my vehicle was manufactured, which was May 2016 for the crankshaft senor causing the engine to stall, which never got fixed on its Carfax I have.
I believe it's the engine or could have something to do with fuel. Car shuts off while in idle, mainly while sitting at a red light it shuts off/down completely. I then have to turn the switch to the on position to recrank it. It starts with no problem at all. Happens almost everyday. I've taken it to have it checked and they can't find any issues. It's been this way since I've gotten the car. Still no one can find the problem.
After filling up vehicle (not overfilled) it stalls when I come to a stop or slow down for a turn. This just started today after filling up from the same fuel station I always use. The Jeep restarts after a few seconds after turning it completely off.
The car started shutting off while driving
Car turned slowed down and almost turned off while I was driving with my toddler in the back seat potentially putting our lives in danger had it happened in the freeway. The ABS light turned on but later in the day turned off and the engine light turned on as well but didn’t turn off until the next day. After a week it did the same thing again except the ABS light didn’t turn on.
Vehicle will intermittently stall and/or lose power while driving. This causes me to have to pull over while driving, wait several minutes, and then I can restart the vehicle and proceed with my way. Overall acceleration is now sluggish in all conditions. The diagnostic code that is recurring indicates an intermittent speed sensor circuit A. I have taken this to my local Jeep dealership, and they have replaced the camshaft, which failed to address the issue. They are still working on the issue as I file this complaint. I note that Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) had a prior recall issued in 2017. The VIN for my vehicle was not part of that recall, and I was not notified. I also note that NHTSA has opened a still current Recall Query with Chrysler as of July 22, 2022, as the issue that was described in that recall is still an issue with other owners of the same model, and that their symptoms match what I am facing with my vehicle.
The suv uses large amounts of oil, no matter what brand. Also an electrical issue is present. The radio stops working, thr check engine light stays on. And the headlights dim way down. This happens randomly. The engine code reappears for p420, and i have fixed every component related to the code. The suv consumes approximately 2 quarts of oil in a months driving. The headlights dim so low, even with brights on, you can barely tell they are on.
when im driving it will either stall completely or feel like its loosing power and go limp. its very dangerous while on the highway because people dont expect that ill go from 65 down to 40mph. i have already taken it to a mechanic and didnt find anything wrong with it. the occasion where it completely stalled. i had to have it pushed off the road, car was still on just didnt have any kind of power, couldnt move my wheels. turned off the car waited a couple of minutes then was able to turn it back on and drive again. this has been going on for the last month
While operating the Vehicle up to 45 MPH the engine will stall, but the car remains on. The wheel locks and pushing on the pedal does not work. I usually turn on my hazard lights on turn the car off and back on. By doing so, someone may not be paying attention and slam into the back of my vehicle and I have held up traffic because of this issue. After restarting the car drives and operates normally. I would also like to report shuddering, and jerking while driving at any speeds.
I purchased the vehicle 4 months ago, and this began at the end of September. Engine stalls out when driving down the highway, check engine light and road hazard lights come on and car trying to accelerate itself at times and other times won’t go over 40 mph. If you let off the brake the car immediately launches forward. I have almost been hit as the car stalls out of no where. I can pull over and turn it off then back on and it will drive for a few miles then happen again. The car was hooked up to the code reader and it says throttle body injector P2173
I was driving to work and noticed that I wasn't getting any power when I accelerated from being stoped at a stop sign and when I got to another stop sign it felt like the brakes where still on for a few secs then the car stalled on ne. I Crunk it up and drove about 3 more miles and the car started overheating so I pulled over and shut it off and waited for it to cool down. It hasn't been able to crank since I shut it off. I've checked my fluid and other minor trouble shooting. No luck.
I would like to recall my 2016 Jeep Patriot because the crankshaft and camshaft sensor are failing to work properly and that increases the risk of crash. There were also problems with the steering column and the tires being off balance because after balancing was found to move without the steering wheel being turned. The recall is important because the vehicle is potential for crash . I only found these things out after driving and seller claimed everything was at top shape but bent the truth due to the small amount of miles put on the vehicle and the fact that I didn't crash the vehicle.

Like many other Jeep Patriot owners, I have experienced driving down the road when out of nowhere, the car dies! Mechanics keep telling people that either the camshaft position sensor or the crankshaft position sensor needs to be replaced...... It's a temporary fix. The code that comes up says that the sensor is intermittent. It's not the sensor that's the problem, it's the wiring connectors!!! Those two sensors are on the same harness. I've had all three sensors replaced. Right after, the car drives fine. Very soon after, the car stalls while driving. Back to square one. They need to recall the sensor wiring for these two sensors for ALL 2016 Jeep Patriots.
The emissions systems stated slippery when wet and the traction for the tires were loose. The tires were installed or balanced wrong causing the tires to slide. When braking the traction caused the car to be driven at low speed to avoid the problems with the steering wheel and the balance between it using the wrong amount of space to turn. It needed it large amount of space because the wheels weren’t aligned correctly. The speed was hesitant to accelerate and was showing signs of defects written in the manufacturers possibly as needed investigation to return it back safely.
Right before arrive to home my wife an kids (2), the Jeep Patriot 2016 completely shutdown the engine when she slowed down in a gated community to pass a speed bump. The dash lights still on but the car didn't run. She had to maneuver to stop the car. Then she backed the key and start the car and it turned on as usual. Luckily was in the gated community and no traffic here but, I could not imagine what will happen if this engine suddenly shutting down in a highway. I could loose my entire family in a second.

I have not been able to drive it for 2 years even though I am still paying on it because it is just not safe for myself or others on the road. It is a hazard all the way around. I keep checking for recalls, but the sites say there are none. However, finally there may be a ray of hope in solving this awful mess. I just got an email last week from CarComplaints.com about this same issue. It listed the 2016 Jeep Patriot as having that issue and being recalled. The Manufactured dates listed there are May 9, 2016 to July 15, 2016. My door sticker says build date 7-16 MDH 071000 486AA. How do I get this looked at and fixed under the recall? I have NOT driven it since August 26, 2020. It is now Aug 7, 2022. I am still paying on this and can't drive it because it is unsafe to travel anywhere chugging along and being a hazard. Within 1.5 years my car kept slowing down when driving out of no where. We almost crashed because the car literally won’t pick up speed or just jolts a few times then stops. We spent over $1000 to have it fixed with 3 different mechanics. They said it was the crankshaft I believe and catalytic converters. We just got the car brand new in 2016 so this has been frustrating because we get oil changes every 3 months and take great car of the car. We’ve had two get brakes don’t over and over and also when you turn the wheels it’s loud and sounds like the ending of a roller coaster when you here it turning. The rides are not smooth either you can see my hand shaking hard when driving even at slow speeds like 35 mph. Jeep really sold us a lemon and we have been paying such a high car note on top fixing things each year. After so many complaints, they really should reimburse people who spend money fixing the same issue. A law suit may handle the issues as well but due diligence would be Jeep seeing the issues and repairing the problem or refunding for the repairs. I’m hoping someone else will see my complaints and think twice before purchasing this vehicle

This is the third time we have taken our vehicle to be serviced in 2022. The first time was January 2022, next June 2022, and the third a week later after the June 2022. The issue is that the throttle body sensor light comes on and the car starts to act up and has no power. The same issue has occurred all three times. The throttlebody has been replaced twice already and we are currently waiting to see if it will need to be replaced a third time. I believe this poses a safety or hazard risk as this happens when driving during high speeds on the freeway as well as on the streets and can cause a collision.
Rpm’s started jumping car wouldn’t accelerate cam shaft sensor code
Vehicle will stall at any speed without warning when letting go of gas pedal. Check engine light will come on once out of every 3-4 stalls with an engine code pointing to Crankshaft Position Sensor. VIN is not part of recall group however experiencing identical symptoms.
I hear that a lot of 2016 this model the crankshaft sensor is bad. I would believe this should be a recall the dealership should pay for it

Our 2016 Jeep Patriot is experiencing stalling in the motor when trying to accelerate at any speed. This happens frequently as well as our temp gauge running hot. We looked up recalls and seen this same issue, typed in our VIN… recalls are for same year and make, but not ours. Can we get this reported? Or how do we go about seeing if ours will qualify for coverage since it’s the same thing happening in the recalls? We’ve had several close calls of being hit because our vehicle stalls.
Jeep sucks so does dealership
Crankshaft position sensor. Engine stalled in traffic. Had to stop, place car in park, turn engine off and then back on. Independent mechanic has confirmed issue. Error code P0335. Vehicle has not been inspected by manufacture or others. Engine has stalled previously with NO WARNING SIGNS. Symptoms have been present since purchase.
While driving my Patriot, as I turned into the gas station the check engine light, traction control light and ETC (red lightning bolt) all popped on at the same time. My vehicle instantly went into limp mode. When In park, stayed a consistent 1,500 RPM’s. All of this happened without warning as the car drove and ran like normal prior. Thankfully I was only .5 miles from home and was able to get it home. Code pulled: P2173 car has always been maintained on time since date of purchase.
Vehicle unable to reach speed above 30mph. Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) symbol shows up in error on dashboard. Unable to accelerate beyond 30mph. Vehicle drives with unstable and jerky motions. Have had this issue before and dealership mechanic reset computer, downloaded a system update to solve issue. This occurred about 2019. Issue has represented itself.
While slowly accelerating from a stop, my 2016 Jeep Patriot engine stalled in the middle of a busy intersection. I lost power steering and & brakes and was luckily able to muscle the car over to the side of road out of traffic. I waited several minutes and restarted the engine which then operated normally afterward. This engine stalling has occurred repeatedly & more frequently (6+ times in last 10 days) while accelerating from a stop which is very dangerous in cross-traffiic intersections and on freeways. Additionally now, the engine rpm’s intermittently surge notably up and down +/- 2,000 rpm while driving with steady un-changing pressure on gas pedal. I have seen no engine failure indicators. I have had this vehicle serviced at two different independent repair shops that couldn’t re-create the problem & guessed it was the throttle body and then cleaned/serviced it. The problem persists more frequently, and is the exact problem listed in the S89 ChryslerJeep recall. My vin is not referenced in the recall notice-even though it is from the same Jeep manufacture period. This recall should definitely apply to my vehicle. I drive 40 freeway miles daily to work and am concerned for my safety and others. My vehicle is available for inspection if needed and I am bringing it tomorrow to a Jeep dealer in hopes of having it repaired under the recall. As the original new owner, I strongly feel that Chrysler Jeep needs to apply this recall to my vehicle and support their owner’s safety.

While driving the car, the motor just stops running unexpectedly, with no warning at all. While driving on the highway it stopped running and had to try to control the car without the power steering because the car had stopped and muscled the car as it coasted to the side of the road, while getting the car to the berm. A semi truck was behind us and came very close to hitting us. I had to put the car in park, turn the key to off position and then restart it to resume driving. This a road hazard and accident waiting to happen. This has happened about a dozen of times within the past month and seems to be doing it more often. Also, when driving, with my foot on the gas pedal, it seems as if someone hits the brake for a second and jerks the car and resumes as if nothing has happened. After we got it the car start I called the dealership and told them what had happened, we took it in the same day, and picked it up the next day. We were told that they could not replicate what we had reported. They could not find anything wrong with the vehicle.

Recently, when trying to start vehicle, all electrical power shut off, open the hood and tap the fuse box, all power comes back on, repeat multiple times until vehicle starts. When driving home down the interstate at night, all power cuts off, engine stops at 70 mph no brakes, no power steering, no brake lights, no headlights and no hazard lights, almost got ran over top of by a semi that couldnt see me stranded in the highway. Finally got it restarted after shaking and tapping fuse box, made it down the road further and all dash lights popped on, dinged and lost the speedometer for a few seconds. Had close encounters like this multiple times lately. Had the battery and alternator checked, all good. Dealership said its not under recall so i would have to pay out of pocket almost 1000 dollars to "fix" it but couldnt guarantee the new fuse box would fix the problem. I like the vehicle but I dont wanna die in it when a semi cant get out of the way when it dies next time.
It had a recall on it and I lost the card so I can get my car repaired due to the recall. My engine light is on. It has been on since 2018. I have noticed lately when I have the air conditioner running and when I have to stop or slow down as soon as I can take off my car is jumping all over the place and then it starts to act like it is going to cut off. I am a service contract administrator. I recently received a claim where the contract holders vehicle would stall. The shop stated a recall had been performed by Auto Nation Chrysler Dodge Jeep in Littleton , CO. ( 7980 W Tufts Ave , Littleton , CO 80123 ) ( 303-578-6099 ) I called over , gave them the VIN , and asked for documentation on the repair. The shop said they would send it over. In the meantime I had the shop the vehicle was currently at send me pictures of the wiring. The repair was poorly done , and Auto Nation is refusing to rectify their poor workmanship. The service advisor in questions name is Scott. He would not return phone calls , and never sent over the requested documentation. My company will take care of the customers repairs. Attached are the pictures of the poor repair. My purpose here is to report poor workmanship , and let you know this dealership is not repairing vehicles to either manufacturer , or federal standards.
A recall has been issued on 2016 Jeep Patriots that are VIN specific (S89). However even though our vehicle was included in the manufacturing dates, it was not included on the recall. I had to pay out of pocket to replace the camshaft/crankshaft sensor. The vehicle was constantly stalling out on my daughter while driving the vehicle which shut off the power steering and brakes. This was a very dangerous situation and I paid to get it repaired. I think that the recall should include my vehicle and I should get reimbursed for my payment.

Shutting down the engine totally and then making it where the power steering and brakes do not function and is an extreme dangerous situation for a female driver to try and control and restart the vehicle without getting in an accident. I feel that my vehicle should be included in this recall and that Jeep should repair my vehicle free of charge. I would hate for someone to get injured for not including this vehicle in a recall that is only VIN specific.

I was driving when my car suddenly died. I was able to restart.i went to the dealer and it's pulling codes for the crankshaft Camshaft sensor or intermittent system. They are not able to check my vehicle for 5 days even though my car shutting off while driving is an emergency issue where I could be hit or I could cause a crash. This sensory and system is a documented issue on the 2016 patriot. My model does not fall in the dates of the recall but I think the recall needs to be expanded because Chrysler Jeep knows this is a problem and is not covering my vin. Again this is a safety concern for my life and they would not even work me in on an emergency basis and I am forced to continue on the road.

CAR DOES NOT SHIFT AS IT SHOULD, AND IS GETTING 160 MILES PER FULL TANK OF GAS.

THIS PAST WEEK IT STARTED DYING WHEN I WAS IN BUMPER TO BUMPER TRAFFIC BUT THIS TIME ONLY THE TIRE YELLOW WARNING LIGHT CAME ON & THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP & I TRIED TO STEP ON THE BRAKE PEDAL BUT THE JEEP CONTINUED TO ROLL UNTIL IT DECIDED TO STOP ON ITS OWN. FORTUNATELY, I WAS ABLE TO MOVE IT TO THE SHOULDER OF THE FREEWAY WHILE THE JEEP WAS STILL MOVING. ONCE MY JEEP WAS SAFELY ON THE SHOULDER I PUT IT ON PARK THEN TURNED THE IGNITION OFF AND THEN TURNED IT BACK ON & WOULD KEEP GOING LIKE NORMAL. ON MONDAY, APRIL 5, 2021, I WAS PARKED AT WORK & WHEN I TRIED TO LEAVE FOR HOME I TURNED MY JEEP ON AND IT STALLED IMMEDIATELY, SO I TURN THE IGNITION OFF & BACK ON BUT IT STARTED TO SHAKE AND VERY CHOPPY BUT IT NEVER ACTUALLY STARTED SO I HAD IT TOWED HOME BECAUSE I STRONGLY FELT MY PERSONAL "LIFE SAFETY" COMPROMISED AND FELT VERY INSECURE DRIVING IT ON THE FREEWAY. I WAS DRIVING ON A 4-LANE HIGHWAY IN THE PASSING LANE. THESE INDICATOR WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON: ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL, ENGINE, TRACTION CONTROL. THE CAR STARTED BUCKING AND SLOWED DOWN. I WAS ABLE TO MOVE INTO THE NON-PASSING LANE AND PULL INTO A STRIP MALL PARKING LOT. I SHUT THE CAR OFF. I LEFT IT OFF FOR A COUPLE OF MINUTES. WHEN I TURNED IT BACK ON, ALL INDICATOR LIGHTS WERE OFF EXCEPT FOR THE ENGINE LIGHT. I TURNED THE CAR ON AND OFF TWO MORE TIMES. THE SECOND TIME, TH ENGINE LIGHT CAME BACK ON AGAIN. THE THIRD TIME, NO LIGHTS CAME ON. I DROVE THE CAR TO A REPAIR SHOP. ON THE WAY THERE, THE ENGINE THROTTLE CONTROL LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN AND THE CAR STARTED BUCKING. AFTER APPROXIMATELY ONE MINUTE, THE INDICATOR LIGHT WENT OFF AND THE CAR STOPPED BUCKING. I MADE IT TO THE REPAIR SHOP WITHOUT FURTHER PROBLEMS. AT THE REPAIR SHOP, THEY RAN DIAGNOSTICS ON THE VEHICLE. THEY FOUND NO CURRENT CODES BUT FOUND OLD CODES RELATING TO THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL. THEY STATED THAT WITHOUT A CURRENT CODE, THEY COULD NOT HELP ME AND ASKED ME TO PICK UP THE CAR. THEY SAID THE NEXT TIME IT HAPPENS, I SHOULD TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A DEALERSHIP BECAUSE THE PROBLEM COULD BE CAUSED BY A MULTITUDE OF ITEMS AND FINDING THE CAUSE WOULD BE A TRIAL AND ERROR PROJECT.

I WAS DRIVING AT ABOUT 55MPH ON A HIGHWAY AND ALL POWER WENT OUT AND I LOST STEERING. IT WAS VERY SCARY AND DANGEROUS. THE UNSEALED MAIN RELAY BOX IS POSITIONED DIRECTLY BELOW THE LEAD-ACID BATTERY WHICH LEAKS DIRECTLY ONTO THE COVER, ENTERS THE RELAY BOX AND DESTROYS THE LEG AND WIRING CONNECTED TO THE AUTOMATIC SHUTDOWN RELAY. THIS CAN OCCUR BOTH AS THE VEHICLE IS OPERATING OR CAUSE A NO-CRANK/NO-START SITUATION, IMMOBILIZING THE VEHICLE. IN OUR CASE, THE FIRST TIME IT OCCURRED WAS IN A PARKING LOT BUT THE ISSUE IS WELL DOCUMENTED ON THE INTERNET AND THERE ARE MYRIAD YOUTUBE VIDEOS ON THE ISSUE FOR MANY JEEP AND FCA VEHICLES. THIS IS ENOUGH OF A KNOWN ISSUE THAT FCA HAS NOT ADDRESSED FOR MANY YEARS NOW AND WE JUST PAID $460.00 FOR THE DEALER TO MOVE THE AFFECTED RELAY FROM THE BOX TO A LESS VULNERABLE LOCATION. IT OCCURRED A FEW TIMES BEFORE THE WIRING FAILED COMPLETELY, AND IN OUR CASE WAS IN A STATIONARY CONDITION EACH TIME FORTUNATELY.

MY VEHICLE, SAME MAKE/MODEL, WITH THE EXACT SAME ISSUES AS IN THE RECALL. LATER THAT DAY, WHILE PULLING IN TO A PARKING LOT, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND ATTEMPTED A RESTART ON ITS OWN. AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES, THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED. WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY (AT AROUND 60 MPH), THE ENGINE STALLED AND ATTEMPTED A RESTART 4 TIMES (ON ITS OWN). IT RESTARTED, AND STAYED THAT WAY FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE TRIP HOME. IN RESEARCHING THIS PROBLEM, THERE IS A RECALL (S89) ON THIS TYPE OF VEHICLE, BUT THE DATE OF MANUFACTURE IS OUT OF RANGE WITH OUR VEHICLE, OR DOES NOT APPLY TO THE ALL WHEEL DRIVE VERSION (WHICH WE HAVE).

I INFORMED THE DEALER OF THIS RECALL WHEN I TOOK THE CAR IN FOR SERVICE. HE SAID IT WASN'T APPLICABLE TO MY VEHICLE AND WOULDN'T KEEP THE PAPERWORK I GAVE HIM FOR THE RECALL. THE DEALER, HOWEVER, TOLD ME IT WAS THE ABS SYSTEM AND CHARGED ME TO REPLACE IT AND THEN ENDED UP REPLACING THE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR AFTER THE PROBLEM STILL HAPPENED ON THE TEST DRIVE AFTER REPLACING ABS. JEEP THEN TRIED TO GOUGE ME ON THE PRICE. ULTIMATELY WANTING TO CHARGE ABOUT $1,600 FOR THE DIAGNOSIS AND FIX. INCLUDING $700 JUST FOR THE PART. I LOCATED A NEW OEM PARTS THROUGH A THIRD PARTY FOR $250. AND A SIMPLE PLUG-AND-PLAY INSTALL, CORRECTED ALL PROBLEMS WITH VEHICLE. DEALERSHIP THEN TRIED TO SAY THE PART NEEDED TO BE PROGRAMMED. SO THEY COULD CHARGE $200 FOR A SERVICE THAT IS COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY. IF YOU GET THE RIGHT TIPM FOR THE EXACT MODEL AND OPTIONS. A SOFT RESET CAN BE DONE BY SIMPLY USING THE IGNITION KEY. IT IS VERY POOR BUSINESS PRACTICE BY CHRYSLER CORPORATION. AND THEY ARE TAKING ADVANTAGE OF MANY UNSUSPECTING CUSTOMERS. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND THE THIRD TIME THEY REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP AND THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY. WE HAD TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS BECAUSE AT APPROX.42,000 MILES IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY WHICH IS ONLY 36,000 MILES. WE GOT THE JEEP BACK. NOT FIXED. THE JEEP HAS STALLED AT TRAFFIC LIGHTS AND STOP SIGNS AND ALSO UPON TURNING. WE HAVE ALSO STALLED GOING 60 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY AND BARELY HAD TIME TO PULL OFF THE ROAD. THROUGH GOOGLE RESEARCH, I CAME ACROSS A WAY TO DO A "RESET" (TURN CAR OFF, INSERT KEY AND TURN "ON", PRESS GAS PEDAL SLOWLY, RELEASE SLOWLY, TURN CAR OFF AND THEN RESTART THE ENGINE). DOING THIS TYPICALLY CLEARS THE ICONS AND I'M ABLE TO TRAVEL AGAIN. THE BATTERY WAS CHANGED 1 DAY AGO AND THE ISSUE OCCURRED MULTIPLE TIMES TODAY. THROUGH ONLINE SEARCHES IT APPEARS THIS IS A TERRIBLY COMMON ISSUE THAT JEEP HAS YET TO ADDRESS! SOMEONE IS GOING TO END UP LOSING THEIR LIFE BECAUSE OF THIS MALFUNCTION. I THEN ORDERED A TOW TRUCK THRU GEICO, HE ARRIVED ABOUT AN HOUR LATER AND HE IMMEDIATELY SAT IN VEHICLE AND CAR CRANKED WITH NO PROBLEMS. THE ENGINE LIGHT ON DASH ALSO DISAPPEARED. THE NEXT DAY I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO HAVE IT CHECKED AGAIN AND I HAVE A PRINT OUT THAT SHOWS THAT NEITHER THE BATTERY, STARTER, ALTERNATOR OR ENGINE OIL WERE A FACTOR. I AM DRIVING THE JEEP IS ON THE HIGHWAY, DOING 60 MPH ONE WEEK AFTER I HAD BOUGHT THE JEEP IN MAY 2016 AND IT AUTOMATICALLY STARTED GOING FASTER ON IT'S OWN, WITH THE RPM INDICATOR GOING CLOCKWISE. IT WOULD NOT SLOW DOWN ON ITS OWN SO I HAD TO DRIVE TO THE ACCESS ROAD AND PUT EMERGENCY BRAKE ON. ONCE I WAS ABLE TO START THE VEHICLE AGAIN IT RESET ITSELF AND PERFORMED NORMALLY. THIS HAS OCCURRED 5 TIMES SINCE I HAVE OWNED IT, INCLUDING JULY 25, 2018 WHEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN LAST WEEK. LAST YEAR I HAD IT CHECKED AND WAS TOLD A SENSOR LIGHT WAS OUT, SO THEY "FIXED" IT. DOESN'T HAPPEN EVERY TIME I HAVE A PASSENGER BUT IT'S SUPER ANNOYING AND HAPPENS MOSTLY WHILE DRIVING IN TOWN. THE SECOND THING IS THAT SINCE THE FIRST WEEK I'VE HAD THE JEEP, THE ENGINE KEEPS STALLING AND OTHER TIMES ACTS LIKE IT'S GOING TO DIE BUT DOESN'T. ALSO MY BACK WINDSHIELD HAS BEEN LEAKING SINCE I GOT THE CAR BUT THE POWER DELER SAYS IT'S FINE. I DO THIS TO SAVE WEAR & TEAR ON MY BRAKES, WHEN APPROACHING STOP-SIGNS OR RED-LIGHTS. I DOWN SHIFT GRADUALLY, JUST LIKE ON A MANUAL TRANS. WHEN IT'S TIME TO GO, I HOLD THE PADDLE IN THE "UP-SHIFT" MODE, UNTIL I SEE "DRIVE" ON THE TRANS. INDICATOR. IN THIS ACCIDENT, AS THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN (THE TRANS. ON 4/12/17 AT APPROXIMATELY 5:30 PM I WAS DRIVING MY JEEP OF 11,000 MILES ON IT. STILL A NEW CAR. IT STARTED RUNNING AS IF LOOSING POWER. I PULLED OFF OF HIGHWAY TO SEE WHAT WAS HAPPENING. I PULLED HOOD RELEASE IT DID NOT OPEN. I LOOKED UNDER JEEP TO ATTEMPT TO GET HOOD OPEN AS AN POLICE OFFICER PULLED UP BESIDE CAR TO SEE IF I WAS OK. AS HE BEGAN TO ASK THIS AND I TURNED TO REPLY. CAR BURST INTO FLAMES. OFFICER ATTEMPTED TO USE FIRE EXTINGUISHER BUT IT DID NOT HELP AND BY THE TIME FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED IT WAS A TOTAL LOSS. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE 2 AND A HALF WEEKS AGO AND IT HAS BEEN BACK TO THE DEALER 4 TIMES BECAUSE OF THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. THE FIRST TIME THEY STATED IT WAS A SENSOR FOR THE BREAKS. SECOND, TIME THEY STATED, FOR THE SAME THING A BRAKE SENSOR. THIRD, TIME THEY SAID THE SENSOR WAS BAD. NOW FOR THE FOURTH TIME THEY ARE SAYING IT'S A MODULE.
