I received an alert on my insurance portal, that my vehicle type ( Jeep Patriot 2016) had a recall, S89 for the camshaft and crankshaft sensors . I noticed that my vehicle has the same issues that is caused by this recall. My vehicle has been stalling and the check engine light when off recently. I had it looked at and the obd reader displayed that there were misfires displaying in the cylinder and issues connected to the camshaft and crank shaft sensor at. I called the recall line but they stated it wasn’t associated with my specific car but I feel like my vehicle should be included in this recall due to the exact issue I am experiencing that is listed in the recall. My vin is [XXX] . I feel I should be included and the issues are causing potential safety risks when driving. On 3 separate occasions while driving the car will chime and ABS, traction control & a third light (I think its the low tire) quickly blinks on and goes off again. The car will still be on and in motion. Today, the car shut off while idle. No lights were on prior and I had been driving for just under 10 minutes. After a period of 2-3 minutes, I tried to crank the engine again and it came on, no lights on dash. I drove to my destination.

The headrest deployed over night while sitting in the garage. There is a plastic piece that keeps the headrest from deploying. That piece is under 75 pounds of pressure and will eventually break. I have read of several people that had the same thing happen to them. Some deployed overnight while parked in their driveway or garage. I read where one person said his deployed while driving and hit him in the back of the head. He said he was lucky that he didn't hit anyone. The Jeep Corporation knows about this flaw but refuses to issue a recall.

There was safety recall -S89 on the 2016 Jeep Patriots - seems my vehicle was not affected however I have had to have it replaced 3 times - Aug 2021, November 2022 and again November 2024. Shouldn't this vehicle been part of the recall? If so, am I able to recoup any of the repair fees that I have paid?

I have had constant electrical issues with my vehicle ever since I bought it in 2018 and I've had to replace the TIPM twice already and it's messing up again! This repair isn't cheap and I feel that JEEP MOPAR should issue a recall regarding the crappy TIPMS they put in this particular vehicle. First of all all the warning lights on the dashboard come off and on intermittentally for no reason and now the doors won't lock using the key fob and my horn doesn't work. And now my ac isn't even working and I don't know if it has something to do with the TIPM or not? But I'm constantly getting an error on the dash that says no bus communication. I know I can't be the only owner of a 2016 Jeep Patriot latitude 2.0 that is experiencing these issues. If anyone else had experienced these issues please send a message to the nhtsa so we can get this issue investigated and elevate it into a recall!

The horn stopped working 4 months after purchase I've had it for a year. It has a hard time accelerating when you're hopping on the freeway. There's also a wiring issue with the rear blinkers and taillight it works for a little bit then goes out off and on throughout the trip.

Brought Jepp Patriot 2016 to a car shop in Suisun City, CA and they did a thorough diagnostics of my Patriot and couldn’t find out why my battery light was coming on. They checked the alternator and battery and they said they were fine. I was on a main street in Suisun City and as I was turning to the left the car died on me and completely shut off. It was hard to turn wheels and hard to push the brakes and I had people push me out of the street into a sidewalk near a house. I then decided to try start it and it started and I was able to make it to my daughter’s house. My son-in-law and granddaughter used my car and hasn’t had the battery light come on yet but that has happened to me several times where it would come on and turn back off. There was only one incident where it died on me so far and I’m hoping it won’t do it again especially on a busier street. I can’t afford to bring it to dealership to see if they can find the reason why the battery lights comes off and on sporadically. I don’t know if any other Jeeps are having this issue but am asked to report it in case it does to happen to someone else.

from the day I purchased the vehicle on [XXX] of 2023. I immediately heard a rattling noise coming from the rear end of the vehicle. I also noticed that the transmission had been catching or slipping or missing whenever it transfers gears it is getting worse by the day I have taken it to the original dealership at MNF auto sales in Albuquerque and I have also taken it to the Larry Miller Jeep in Albuquerque New Mexico. They claim that the only thing wrong with the vehicle is the motor mounts after I left with my vehicle from being repaired, it continues to happen, and the transmission is getting worse day by day , I am afraid if I keep driving it much longer that it may cause an accident or damage the vehicle severely. I am trying to work with the dealership and they are telling me that multiple people have looked at it and that there’s nothing wrong with it however, that is false information , my vehicle has been in the service department for over 10 days at two different locations and basically the main dealership where I bought it from is telling me that they do not want to look at it and that it’s the type of transmission I have and there’s nothing wrong. Several incidents when driving where the vehicle hesitates then the RPMs drop to zero and the Vehicle does not accelerate when gas pedal is pushed. Vehicle does not die each time just does not react to gas pedal being applied and does not increase in speed. Only dashboard light that comes on is the loss of traction. Incident causes driver to have to pull off road, place vehicle in park, turn off and on. Then can drive again.

I had the catalyst converter recall fixed in 2020 and now I am having to fix/replace the converter they replaced with the recall not even 3 years later and have been told that it wouldn’t be associated with the recall or replaced under warranty with it even though the life span on a catalyst converter is usually around 10 years not just little over 2 years old I shouldn’t be having to get it replace and pay the costs of a more recently fixed recall

I believe it's the engine or could have something to do with fuel. Car shuts off while in idle, mainly while sitting at a red light it shuts off/down completely. I then have to turn the switch to the on position to recrank it. It starts with no problem at all. Happens almost everyday. I've taken it to have it checked and they can't find any issues. It's been this way since I've gotten the car. Still no one can find the problem.

While operating the Vehicle up to 45 MPH the engine will stall, but the car remains on. The wheel locks and pushing on the pedal does not work. I usually turn on my hazard lights on turn the car off and back on. By doing so, someone may not be paying attention and slam into the back of my vehicle and I have held up traffic because of this issue. After restarting the car drives and operates normally. I would also like to report shuddering, and jerking while driving at any speeds.

I was driving to work and noticed that I wasn't getting any power when I accelerated from being stoped at a stop sign and when I got to another stop sign it felt like the brakes where still on for a few secs then the car stalled on ne. I Crunk it up and drove about 3 more miles and the car started overheating so I pulled over and shut it off and waited for it to cool down. It hasn't been able to crank since I shut it off. I've checked my fluid and other minor trouble shooting. No luck.

I have not been able to drive it for 2 years even though I am still paying on it because it is just not safe for myself or others on the road. It is a hazard all the way around. I keep checking for recalls, but the sites say there are none. However, finally there may be a ray of hope in solving this awful mess. I just got an email last week from CarComplaints.com about this same issue. It listed the 2016 Jeep Patriot as having that issue and being recalled. The Manufactured dates listed there are May 9, 2016 to July 15, 2016. My door sticker says build date 7-16 MDH 071000 486AA. How do I get this looked at and fixed under the recall? I have NOT driven it since August 26, 2020. It is now Aug 7, 2022. I am still paying on this and can't drive it because it is unsafe to travel anywhere chugging along and being a hazard. FAULTY CONTROL ARM/BALL JOINTS ( ALL IN ONE PART TOGETHER FOR BALL JOINT AND CONTROL ARM) first time I took it in was jan 2021 the two months later now this is the 3RD time now the car dealership is stating the faulty part ( control arm/ ball join) mechanic stated both times that that parts were faulty. Causing damage to tires that are not safe and I have to pay out of pocket for new tires when the parts are faulty which the parts were covered under my warranty but tire were not... so I believe since the parts that are faulty that caused damaged I should not be liable for buying the new tires did to faulty parts causing the damage.

WHEN MY CAR FIRST STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS IT SHUT OFF WHEN AT A DRIVE THROUGH. THEN IT STARTED HAPPENING ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN I SLOW DOWN TO MAKE A TURN OR STOP AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT WITH NO WARNING LIGHT JUST SHUT OFF. THEN IT BEGAN SHUTTING OFF JUST DURING NORMAL SHORT DRIVING. I WOULD BE GOING 40-60 ON THE FREEWAY AND THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD LOCK UP & MY CAR WOULD START SHUTTING OFF. I WAS STILL ABLE TO ENGAGE THE BRAKE, SAFELY MOVE MY CAR TO THE SHOULDER, PUT IT ON PARK, THEN RESTART IT, THEN PROCEEDED ON MY MISSION. THIS PAST WEEK IT STARTED DYING WHEN I WAS IN BUMPER TO BUMPER TRAFFIC BUT THIS TIME ONLY THE TIRE YELLOW WARNING LIGHT CAME ON & THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP & I TRIED TO STEP ON THE BRAKE PEDAL BUT THE JEEP CONTINUED TO ROLL UNTIL IT DECIDED TO STOP ON ITS OWN. FORTUNATELY, I WAS ABLE TO MOVE IT TO THE SHOULDER OF THE FREEWAY WHILE THE JEEP WAS STILL MOVING. ONCE MY JEEP WAS SAFELY ON THE SHOULDER I PUT IT ON PARK THEN TURNED THE IGNITION OFF AND THEN TURNED IT BACK ON & WOULD KEEP GOING LIKE NORMAL. AUTOMATIC JEEP, HAS DIFFICULTY SHIFTING BETWEEN GEARS WHEN ACCELERATING. THIS IS ESPECIALLY NOTICEABLE WHEN GOING A SLOWER SPEED (I.E. TURNING A CORNER, IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC WITH STOP-AND-GO SPEEDS), BUT DOES DO IT AT HIGHER SPEEDS (EX. 60 MPH TO 70 MPH). IT DOES NOT SEEM TO HAVE ISSUES WHEN DOWN SHIFTING. THE VEHICLE HAS A VERY NOTICEABLE LURCH/SHUTTER WHEN IT IS ATTEMPTING TO SHIFT TO A HIGHER GEAR AND WILL DO IT REPEATEDLY IN A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. THE VEHICLE NEEDS TO BE DRIVEN A WHILE BEFORE IT WILL OCCUR, I DRIVE IT ABOUT 20 MILES BEFORE IT STARTS EXHIBITING THE ISSUE. THE ISSUE IS MOST FRIGHTENING IN CITY/RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC BECAUSE IT SEEMS LIKE THE VEHICLE MIGHT STOP RUNNING ALL TOGETHER. THE VEHICLE ALSO SEEMS TO STRUGGLE TO MAKE IT UP HILLS, AS IF IT DOES NOT HAVE ENOUGH POWER TO MAKE THE CLIMB OF EVEN A SMALL HILL. THE RPM GAUGE REALLY JUMPS UP HIGH TO ABOUT 5-6 WHEN CLIMBING A SMALL HILL OR ACCELERATING 5-10 MPH TO PASS SOMEONE ON THE HIGHWAY. THE ISSUE STARTED BEFORE THE VEHICLE HAD REACHED 60,000 MILES. FILTERS AND OIL HAVE BEEN CHANGED SEVERAL TIMES AND FUEL INJECTOR CLEANER HAS BEEN ADDED TO THE GAS SEVERAL TIMES, NONE OF THESE MEASURES HAVE CHANGED THE PERFORMANCE ISSUE OF THE VEHICLE.

ACTIVE HEADREST WAS DEPLOYED/ACTIVATED WHILE IDLE AT A RED LIGHT, THE HEADREST HIT THE BACK OF MY HEAD AND MADE ME RELEASE THE BRAKE WHILE STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT, THERE WAS ALSO A VERY LOUD NOISE (KIND OF LIKE A GUN SHOT NOISE). I HAVE HAD MAJOR LIFE OR DEATH PROBLEMS ALMOST WITH THIS VEHICLE. THIS VEHICLE BEGAN STALLING OUT AND SHUTTING OFF WHILE DRIVING DOWN BUSY INTERSTATE OR OTHER ROADWAYS IN 2017. MY VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALERSHIP DUE TO STALLING OUT AND SHUTTING OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY HIGHWAY ON JUNE 29, 2019 AFTER I LEFT MY JOB. I HAVE FILED A COMPLAINT WITH THE CONSUMER PROTECTION DIVISION AND I EXPRESSED THE DANGERS AND THE GOVERNMENT HASN'T STOPPED IN TO INTERVENE AS OF TODAY. I NOTIFIED CHRYSLER MANUFACTURER OF THE PROBLEM IN 2017, WHEN MY VEHICLE ONLY HAD 50,000 MILES. ONCE AGAIN THERE WASN'T ANYTHING DONE CONCERNING THIS SITUATION. SPOKE TO ANOTHER AUTO SHOP ABOUT REPAIRS, TOLD I WAS MISTAKEN, PART SHOULD NOT BREAK. CONTACTED WARRANTY TECH/EDGE WARRANTIES REGARDING ISSUE, TOLD TO TAKE TO DEALERSHIP. DEALERSHIP CALLS BACK SAME DAY AND SAID THAT IT BROKE BECAUSE IT HAD BEEN PULLED WRONG...I ASKED WHAT THAT MEANT, DEALERSHIP SAID THAT IT HAD BEEN TOWED WRONG. I TOLD HIM THAT WE HAD PURCHASED NEW FROM THE LOT AND HAD NEVER BEEN TOWED. REPRESENTATIVE SAID HE WOULD LOOK FURTHER INTO ISSUE AFTER TELLING ME THAT I NEEDED TO CONTACT MY INSURANCE. NEXT DAY, REPRESENTATIVE OF DEALERSHIP CALLS (BREEDEN DODGE) AND TELLS ME THAT ONCE THEY TOOK THE WHEEL OFF AND EXAMINED FURTHER, THAT THE "PULLED WRONG THEORY" WAS OUT THE DOOR, THAT IT BASICALLY JUST BROKE, AND THAT IT SHOULD NOT HAVE. I AGAIN TOLD HIM THAT FROM EACH PROFESSIONAL I SPOKEN WITH THAT IT WAS MORE THAN LIKELY A MANUFACTURER DEFECT/ERROR. HE SAID HE WOULD CONTACT CHRYSLER TO SEE IF THEY WOULD STAND BEHIND ISSUE. I DROPPED THE VEHICLE OFF ON A WEDNESDAY, THE FOLLOWING WEDNESDAY, THE REPRESENTATIVE CALLS BACK SAYING THAT CHRYSLER WILL NOT STAND BEHIND, BUT THAT I NEEDED TO CONTACT INSURANCE COMPANY. I TOLD HIM THAT I HAD AN EXTENDED WARRANTY THROUGH WARRANTY TECH/EDGE WARRANTIES (CHRYSLER CALLS IT ONE THING AND DEALERSHIP CALLS IT ANOTHER). THE REPRESENTATIVE ACTED LIKE THE EXTENDED WARRANTY WAS AN ISSUE, EACH TIME I MENTIONED IT, BUT SAID HE WOULD CONTACT THEM. HE CALLED BACK A COUPLE OF HOURS LATER AND SAID THAT THE WARRANTY WOULD NOT COVER BECAUSE IT IS PART OF THE FRAME. HE THEN INSISTED THAT I CONTACT MY INSURANCE COMPANY. I TOLD HIM I WOULD CONTACT BOTH CHRYSLER AND WARRANTY TECH. I CONTACTED CHRYSLER AND ALMOST GOT IT APPROVED AS HE HAD ONLY CONTACTED THEM THE DAY PRIOR.

I CALLED THE ROAD ASSISTANCE AND INFORMED THE DEALER SINCE THE CAR WAS SERVICED BACK ON FEBRUARY 23, 2017 DUE TO A SAFETY RECALL NOTICE S89 - CRANKSHAFT CAMSHAFT SENSOR, AT A HIGHER SPEED THIS INCIDENT COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A MAYOR COLLISION. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT OF BENITEZ CHRYSLER IS EVALUATING THE CAUSE. SO FAR THE DIAGNOSTICS INDICATE A STOP LAND SWITCH FAILURE AT THE BREAK. I INDICATED THAT THEY HAVE TO CALL CHRYSLER AND ODI-NHTSA IN ORDER TO REPORT THE INCIDENT AND LOOK FOR GUIDANCE, SINCE I WILL NOT EXPOSE ANY LIFE ON A NEW CAR UNRESOLVED SAFETY PROBLEM.

I WAS DRIVING ON A CITY STREET AROUND 2:30 PM WHEN I NOTICE SMOKE COMING OUT FROM UNDER MY HOOD. I PULLED OFF TO A SAFE SPOT AND BY THIS TIME II COULD SEE THE FIRE COMING OUT OF THE FRONT OF MY JEEP. THREE FIRE INSPECTORS LOOKED AT IT AND ARE UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE. HOWEVER, A JEEP MECHANIC ALSO LOOKED AT IT AND BELIEVES THE FIRE STARTED BEHIND THE BATTERY. THE JEEP IS TOTALED. STILL WAITING ON REPORTS FROM THE INSURANCE COMPANY. CYNTHIA I JUST WANTED TO GIVE YOU AN UPDATE. WE DID HIRE SOME PEOPLE WHO WENT OUT AND ALSO WERE NOT ABLE TO FULLY DETERMINE THE FIRE. I AM HAVING A HARD TIME GETTING IN CONTACT WITH CHRYSLER. I WILL KEEP TRYING AND LET YOU KNOW WHAT THEY TELL ME. DEPENDING ON WHAT THEY TELL ME WE MIGHT MOVE FORWARD WITH MORE INVESTIGATION. PURCHASED THIS JEEP IN MARCH. IT IS NOW JUST A LITTLE OVER A MONTH LATER AND ALREADY THIS JEEP HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP TWICE FOR WATER LEAKING INTO THE REAR DOME LIGHT, FILLING THE LIGHT FIXTURE WITH WATER, AND WHEN YOU MAKE A TURN THE WATER WILL LEAK OUT OF THE DOME LIGHT AND ONTO THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE ALL OVER THE CARPETED AREA WHERE ITEMS ARE STORED. BOTH TIMES I HAVE NOTICED THE WATER IT HAS BEEN IN THE MORNING AFTER IT HAS RAINED AT NIGHT AND I AM OPENING THE HATCH TO PUT MY BELONGINGS INSIDE. TWICE ALREADY IN THE SHOP FOR THIS SAME ISSUE AND I MY FIRST CAR PAYMENT ISN'T EVEN DUE!

THERE IS AN APPROXIMATELY 1/2 SECOND DELAY FROM WHEN THE HORN SWITCH IS PRESSED TO WHEN THE HORN SOUNDS. THIS IS A DANGEROUS SAFETY HAZARD AND HAS ALREADY RESULTED IN MY EXPERIENCING 3 NEAR MISSES SINCE TAKING OWNERSHIP OF THE VEHICLE (IN OCTOBER 2015). THE FAILURE OF THE HORN TO SOUND WHEN NEEDED CAUSED ME TO TAKE EVASIVE MANEUVERS BECAUSE THE OTHER DRIVERS DIDN'T HEAR IT IN TIME. NOVEMBER 2015 IN HOBOKEN NEW JERSEY I WAS HEADING NORTH ON WASHINGTON STREET AT 25 MPH WHEN SOMEONE STARTED TO BACK OUT OF A CURB FACING PARKING SPOT. THE DRIVER APPARENTLY DIDN'T SEE ME AND PROCEEDED TO PULL OUT. I HELD DOWN THE HORN BUT BY THE TIME IT SOUNDED THE DRIVER WAS TOO CLOSE AND WAS ABOUT TO T-BONE ME. I HAD TO DRIVE ONTO TO WRONG SIDE OF THE ROAD TO AVOID HIM. LUCKILY NO ONE WAS APPROACHING IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION. AGAIN IN NOVEMBER OF 2015 I WAS HEADING NORTH ON US ROUTE 202, DOING ABOUT 30 MPH IN A 40 MPH ZONE IN PARSIPPANY NEW JERSEY. A CAR SHOOTS OUT OF A CORPORATE PARK DRIVEWAY HEADED STRAIGHT TOWARD ME. I HELD DOWN THE HORN AND AGAIN IT SOUNDED ABOUT A HALF A SECOND LATER, TOO LATE FOR THE ONCOMING DRIVER TO REALIZE IT. WE BOTH SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES WHEN WE SAW EACH OTHER AND LUCKILY THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT. DECEMBER 2015 IN WAYNE NEW JERSEY HEADING WEST ON PREAKNESS AVENUE (ONE LANE IN EACH DIRECTION) I APPROACHED A CURVE TO THE RIGHT TRAVELING AT 25 MPH. THE DRIVER OF AN ONCOMING CAR (ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE ROAD) CROSSED OVER THE DOUBLE YELLOW LINES ONTO MY SIDE OF THE ROAD. I HELD DOWN THE HORN AND IT DIDN'T SOUND UNTIL THE OTHER DRIVER ALMOST HIT ME. LUCKILY THERE WAS A SMALL SHOULDER ON MY SIDE AND I WAS ABLE TO QUICKLY MOVE MY RIGHT TWO WHEELS ONTO IT AND AVOID THE COLLISION. JEEP AND THE DEALERSHIP I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE FROM STATE THAT THIS BEHAVIOR IS NORMAL AS THE HORN IS DESIGNED TO USE THE VEHICLE'S COMPUTER. NO HORN SHOULD USE THE COMPUTER.
