The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Renegade. While the contact's husband was driving at an undisclosed speed, the engine seized. The contact stated several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The contact's husband attempted to restart the vehicle; however, the vehicle failed to restart. The contact stated that after several attempts, the vehicle eventually started. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with a failed shift solenoid number 5 control circuit range performance. The contact was informed that the shift solenoid number 5 circuit range performance needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The contact referenced an unknown recall; however, the VIN was not under recall. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 83,300.

When starting the car and letting it warm up for 2 minutes. The vehicle shifts hard or takes it time to shift into next gear, and while idling for less than 5 minutes, the car warms up 32 degrees. Which I do not believe the fan motor is working properly. Also took car to dealership blown trans and engine mounts.
After I filled up my tank, I drove and turned onto a busy highway. As I was turning, it felt like my car went into neutral. I had to take my foot off of the gas and looked to see if the shifter switched gears, but it was still in drive. After about 10 seconds it shifted into gear. If I did not wait for the road to be clear I could have gotten into a major accident.
Complaint Summary: I brought my 2015 Jeep Renegade Trailhawk (VIN: [XXX] ) to AutoNation CDJR Roseville on May 17, 2025, for the U90 emissions recall. The catalytic converter was replaced, and the PCM software was updated. However, the U0402 diagnostic trouble code (implausible data received from TCM) remains stored. This code has been persistent and prevents the vehicle from passing California emissions, which is required for my registration as the car was transferred from out-of-state. The service advisor initially stated that the TCM was updated, but later corrected himself and admitted the TCM already had the latest version and was not reprogrammed. I have not been given written confirmation that the TCM software or wiring was verified or addressed. I am concerned the dealership is refusing to properly resolve this under recall and is instead recommending a full transmission replacement without supporting mechanical codes or verifying the emissions system software/communication is compliant. I’m requesting FCA’s assistance, and the BAR in California to enforce the complete and proper execution of the U90 recall and resolution of the U0402 code under recall scope. 2015 Jeep Renegade Trailhawk has a failed PTU being repaired at a cost of $3500. There are only 41,000 miles. In 2022 while still under warranty I had it in for shifting hard problems. I was told it was the thermostat which they replaced. I didn't take it back to Jeep until May,2024 due to it was only shifting hard sometimes and I figured they would not do anything. I took the car in due to hard shift and tire pressure light being on a day after it came on. Jeep fixed, a day later it came back, Jeep fixed. When I got home, TP light on again. Now they tell me the shifting is a different problem because the computer says DTC code went off a month ago saying there was a problem (and claim I have to bring in within a week). No warning lights or messages other than the tire pressure light which is still being fixed. Also see SB#21-025-19

While driving in a snowstorm, with 4 wheel drive engaged, the vehicle started swerving, and fish tailing. I was in town and going slow(20 mph). The dash flashed some messages, and the default kicked in so front wheel drive resumed and stability also. The main message was ESC-Emergency Stability Control, plus two others. I called a mechanic in the morning, who suggested the computer might reset. I turned the vehicle on, but the message stayed. I decided to go to the mechanic’s shop, but after two left turns I heard a “growling” sound and the computer did reset. It has been okay since.

The vehicle on multiple occasions is shifting very hard mostly in between first and second gear, and sometimes third. The vehicle jerks forward like it had been hit from the back. It has also quit moving even though it was still running on a couple of occasions. it feels as if it’s going into neutral and then back into gear.

Transmission when driving it sticks in 9 gear. Loss power. Two years ago the value body was replaced, then 2-3 months ago it started the same loss of power dealer checked found nothing said to drive it see if it happens again.Two week ago took it back in to the dealer and they replaced the valve body for a 2nd time. Left the shop a few hours later the same thing happened again. Driving the highway and no power. Took it right back to the dealer on Saturday. Have not heard anything from them yet.The transmission service light goes on and the check engine light.

While driving highway speed (55mph) I received a “transmission check” notification followed by “check engine” light engaging. Nothing felt different at this time. A few minutes later, I came to a full stop at a light. Upon turning green, I pressed the gas pedal to drive and the car revved, but would not move forward, as if stuck in neutral for about 10 seconds. If finally lurched forward and began to drive normally.
The vehicle engine has been shaking moderately since we purchased it. The dealer told us that is just the way the vehicle sounds and feels. Recently it has begun to shake more while stopped in traffic or at a light. The dealer told us the engine mount was broken. The vehicle has only 33,354 miles. This is a safety issue as the engine could become dislodged and cause an accident as well as the fluids would be a hazardous materials exposure endangering potential wildlife. Jeep originally told me it was covered under warranty and then later changed their mind. Either way it is a defective part of the power train and dangerous.

Outside Temperature Sensor fail in temperature under 31 degrees which causes check engine light to come on and disables four wheel drive to engage while driving in snowy conditions. Took Jeep to dealership repair cost $600 for a vehicle I’ve only owned for 25 days with 51,000 miles, they informed me that later down the road I will have to repeat this process again because this is a very common expensive problem in Jeep forum.
I had the factory clutch replaced on my vehicle with genuine dealer parts. After 3,000 miles the clutch failed while I was driving. That clutch was replaced with a new clutch under warranty and it also failed while I was driving after less than 300 miles. Both times the clutch failed without warning. When the clutch fails, the vehicle will not start and cannot go into gear. The first time I was turning onto a extremely busy highway and could not get my vehicle out of traffic. I am concerned that there is a design flaw in the replacement clutch parts that puts the safety of vehicle owners at risk.
Shifter won't work (won't move out of park) after battery dies. My vehicle's battery died at the end of April, we assumed it was just an old battery and had it replaced by AAA. Last week, the battery died again (this also co-occurred with the key fobs not working...if that's helpful). After AAA charged it, we turned it on but it wouldn't shift out of park. We followed the manual instructions to manually shift it into Neutral but then we couldn't turn the vehicle off. Eventually it was towed to the dealership while it was still running...and they said that it needs a new shifter (+$1300)?! The transmission bucks when it shifts most of the time when the transmission gets warmed up. it is worrysome and I am worried for my safety.
MY CAR WILL NOT STAY IN DRIVE. I WAS LEAVING A PARKING SPACE IN A PARKING LOT AND WHEN I PUT IT INTO DRIVE IT MOVED FORWARD AND THEN SHIFTED TO NEUTRAL ON ITS OWN. I SHIFTED BACK TO DRIVE AND IT WENT BACK TO NEUTRAL. IF I HAD BEEN PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC, SOMEONE COULD HAVE EASILY CRASHED INTO ME BECAUSE WHEN IT SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL MY CAR NO LONGER HAD ANY POWER AND IT CAUSES AN UNEXPECTED SLOW DOWN.. MY CAR IS CURRENTLY AT A MECHANIC'S SHOP WAITING TO BE REPAIRED. IN RESEARCHING THIS PROBLEM WITH MY CAR, I HAVE FOUND OTHER JEEP RENEGADES AND CHRYSLER VEHICLES WITH THE SAME PROBLEM HAVE BEEN RECALLED FOR SAFETY CONCERNS. ENGINE LIGHT HAS BEEN ON LIGHTING ON AND OFF. I WENT TO MECHANIC AND IT'S THE COOLANT THERMOSTAT. WHICH MIGHT BE AFFECTING MY INTAKE AIR TEMPERATURE. IN COLD WEATHER ENGINE LIGHT GOES OFF AND IN HOT WEATHER IT TURNS ON. THIS CAUSES MY JEEP TO STRUGGLE WHEN I WANT TO SPEND UP ON HIGHWAY. THE OTHER ANNOYING PROBLEM IS THAT WHEN I'M IN IDLE AT A STOP LIGHT THE JEEP SHAKES SO MUCH THAT I FEEL IT ALL OVER CAR. IT ALSO HAS A VERY LOUD NOISE TO IT. SINCE I BOUGHT THE JEEP, IT WOULD SOMETIMES SHIFT REALLY HARD FROM 1ST GEAR & THAT WAS AT 47K MILES. NOW I AM AT 55K & IT IS DOING IT FROM 1ST, 2ND, & SOMETIMES 3RD. OF COURSE, JEEP HAS MADE IT SO THAT I CANNOT EVEN CHECK MY TRANSMISSION FLUID, MUCH LESS ADD ANY BECAUSE THEY MADE IT A CLOSED UNIT. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE THERMOSTAT, FOUR WHEEL DRIVE SWITCH, AND MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. IT IS A 2015 JEEP RENEGADE AND THE PROBLEM IS THE 9 SPEED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. OH, IT IS SUPPOSED TO WORK SCREWED UP?! HARD SHIFTING, LURCHING, POWER LOSS, INCONSISTENT SHIFTING PATTERNS, ETC. PROBLEMS EXIST UPON TAKE-OFF, SPEEDING UP, SLOWING DOWN & COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP. IT IS NOT RIGHT!
MY VEHICLE'S PASSENGER TIRE WAS IMPROPERLY MOUNTED BY THE MANUFACTURER. IT HAS LED TO THE ENGINE MOUNTS BECOMING WORN, CAUSING THE CAMSHAFT TO BE WORN AT ONLY 71,213 MILES, AND THE DRIVE SHAFT BECOMING BROKEN. THIS HAS BEEN DOCUMENTED BY A REPAIR SHOP AND A JEEP DEALERSHIP SERVICE CENTER SAYS THAT THIS IS THE THIRD TIME THAT THEY HAVE SEEN THIS ISSUE AND ATTRIBUTE IT TO THE TIRE BEING IMPROPERLY MOUNTED BY THE FACTORY. THIS IS ALSO A KNOWN ISSUE DOCUMENTED IN VIDEOS AND ONLINE FORUMS. THIS IS A MATTER OF SAFETY AND COULD CAUSE CATASTROPHIC FAILURE WHILE DRIVING. THE MANUFACTURER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED BUT HAVE NOT YET ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THIS WARRANTS A RECALL, WHICH IT SHOULD.
TRANSMISSION BEGAN TO SLIP AND FAILED UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS BOTH ON HIGHWAY AND STREETS WITHIN FIRST YEAR OF CAR PURCHASE FROM DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION AND WITHIN FIVE YEARS, THE TRANSMISSION IS SLIPPING AGAIN WHILE DRIVING UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS BOTH ON HIGHWAY AND STREETS.

WHILE DRIVING IN THE MOUNTAINS, A TRANSMISSION WARNING LIGHT FOLLOWED BY A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT FLASHED ON THE DASH. I FIGURED IT WAS A MAINTENANCE WARNING. THE FURTHER I DROVE, IT BECAME APPARENT THAT I WAS LOSING THE ABILITY TO ACCELERATE. IN THE MOUNTAIN RANGE THERE IS NO CELL SERVICE AND IT WAS DARK AS WELL AS FEARFUL DRIVERS WOULD COME UP BEHIND ME ON A CURVE WITHOUT MY ABILITY TO GO HWY SPEEDS, LEAVING ME TO FEEL VERY UNSAFE. THE FURTHER I DROVE, THE LESS ABILITY I HAD TO ACCELERATE. BY THE TIME I REACHED THE FREEWAY, MY ABILITY TO ACCELERATE WAS VERY COMPROMISED. WHEN I REACHED THE FREEWAY, IT WAS CONGESTED, PLAYING IN MY FAVOR SINCE I COULD NOT ACCELERATE WELL. WHEN STARTING FROM A STOP, THE ENGINE WAS GETTING UP TO 2000+ RPMS TO GO 15 MPH. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. I WAS TOLD THAT IF IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION, IT WOULD BE COVERED UNDER A WARRANTY THE JEEP EXTENDED, BUT SINCE THIS INVOLVES 'THE BRAIN OF THE TRANSMISSION' IT IS NOT A COVERED REPAIR.

SEVERAL TIMES I TOOK MY 2015 JEEP RENEGADE INTO CARTHAGE CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM TO COMPLAIN ABOUT MY TRANSMISSION SLIPPING WITH ACCELERATION FROM A STOP. I WAS TOLD SEVERAL TIMES IT WAS FINE, DESPITE MY REPEATED COMPLAINTS THAT IT WAS A SAFETY HAZARD. IT WOULD SLIP WHEN ENTERING ROUNDABOUTS AND WHEN MAKING LEFT TURNS IN TRAFFIC, CAUSING SEVERAL NEAR ACCIDENTS. I ALSO COMPLAINED ABOUT THE JEEP RENEGADE CONTINUING TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL, A RECALL JEEP CLAIMS TO HAVE REPAIRED IN THE PAST. WHEN I WROTE THE COMPANY ABOUT MY DISMISSED COMPLAINTS IN MAY I RESPONDED TO THEIR EMAIL FOR FOLLOW UP INFORMATION ON MAY 12. A FOLLOW UP QUESTION WAS ASKED REGARDING THE NAME OF THE TECHNICIAN I MAY 13, ATTACHED. I APPARENTLY MISSED A CALL ON 5/14 AND WAS NOTIFIED 5/15 THAT THEY WERE CLOSING MY CASE, ALSO ATTACHED. WE DECIDED TO TAKE MY RENEGADE INTO FRANK FLETCHER CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP, DUE TO EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE DURING AN AUTOMOTIVE PURCHASE EARLIER THIS YEAR, AND THEY IMMEDIATELY FIND THE PROBLEM TO BE AN INTERNAL CLUTCH FAILURE. I HAVE NOW BEEN QUOTED A PRICE OF $4,601+TAX...TO FIX A PROBLEM I HAVE BEEN COMPLAINING ABOUT FOR YEARS TO A DIFFERENT JEEP DEALERSHIP ON 9/21/2020. I IMMEDIATELY SENT AN EMAIL TO THE NHTSA, HOWEVER I MAY HAVE NOTIFIED THE ADMINISTRATION INCORRECTLY, SENDING AN EMAIL INSTEAD OF THE FORM. ALSO ATTACHED IS THE WORK ORDER AND INVOICE FROM JULY 2019. I WAS PROVIDED WITH THE INVOICE AT TIME OF PAYMENT WITH NO MENTION OF A TRANSMISSION COMPLAINT. THE WORK ORDER CLEARLY SHOWS I WAS COMPLAINING ABOUT THE TRANSMISSION. UPON INVESTIGATION, THE CONTACT DISCOVERED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V529000 (POWER TRAIN) WHICH SHE LINKED TO THE FAILURE HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE VEHICLE HAD YET TO BE REPAIRED. WHEN IT DIED IT WAS IN A GARAGE SO I HAD TO MANUALLY UNLOCK THE GEAR SELECTOR TO PUT THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL TO PUSH IT INTO POSITION FOR A JUMP CONNECTION. I PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND LET THE BATTERY CHARGE UP A WHILE. ONCE THE CAR CHARGED UP ENOUGH, IT STARTED RIGHT UP. AT THIS POINT I THOUGHT I WAS IN THE CLEAR, THAT'S WHEN THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT AND SERVICE TRANSMISSION LIGHT CAME ON. THE ENGINE IS RUNNING FINE, TRANSMISSION WAS FINE BEFORE THE BATTERY DIED. NOT ONLY THAT, BUT I COULD NOT MOVE THE VEHICLE. IT WAS LOCKED INTO PARK. I WAS BLOCKING THE ROAD IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD WHILE I WAS MANUALLY UNLOCKING THE GEAR SELECTOR, I FINALLY GET THE CAR TO SHIFT INTO DRIVE AND TRIED TO ACCELERATE. ONLY THE ENGINE WOULD REV, NO MOVEMENT. TRY TO REVERSE, SAME THING. AT THIS POINT I COULDN'T GET THE CAR BACK INTO PARK. I PUSH THE CAR BACK INTO THE GARAGE TO GET IT OUT OF THE WAY AND GO TO TURN IT OFF. THE RENEGADE (PUSH BUTTON START) WILL NOT LET YOU TURN THE CAR OFF IN ANY GEAR BUT PARK. IT WAS STUCK IN NEUTRAL. AFTER STRUGGLING MORE TO FORCE IT BACK INTO PARK, I FINALLY GET IT AND WAS ABLE TO TURN THE CAR OFF. I'M LUCKY IT DIDN'T GET STUCK IN D OR R IF IT STARTED WORKING! I'VE NEVER HAD SUCH AN EXPERIENCE JUMPSTARTING A CAR AND THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN. I TRIED UNLOCKING IT AND SHIFTED TO REVERSE IT WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AND WOULD GET STUCK IN THAT GEAR SO HAD TO MANUALLY UNLOCK AND SHIFT TO DRIVE AND COULDN'T ACCELERATE. COULDN'T TURNED IT OFF GEAR SHIFT WOULD LOCK ITSELF. HAPPENED WHILE HEADING BACK HOME. SO I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND SAW THE RECALL FOR TRANSMISSION. THEY ENDED UP DOING SOMETHING ELSE THAT I DIDN'T SAY YES TO NOW THEY ARE CHARGING ME FOR IT AND WHILE MY CAR WAS GETTING REPAIRED. THEY GAVE ME A LOANER CAR, I GET IN CAR ACCIDENT IN THEIR LOANER CAR I HAD INSURANCE BUT ONLY LIABILITY. DEALERSHIP WON'T GIVE MY CAR BACK UNTIL I PAY IN CASH A DEDUCTIBLE OF 2,500 AND PLUS REPAIRS I DIDN'T AGREE TO.

I UNDERSTAND SOME ISSUES HOWEVER THERE APPEARS TO BE A NEW ONE ALMOST WEEKLY. I HAVE HIRED A LAWYER TO INVESTIGATE MY CASE S THIS THE ABSOLUTE WORST VEHICLE I HAVE EVER OWNED. TRANSMISSION WAS SUPPOSEDLY "REPLACED" UNDER WARRANTY, BUT HAS ONLY GOTTEN WORSE. ALSO, NOW HAVING ENGINE REPLACED, BECAUSE IT BURNS 3 QUARTS OF OIL EVERY 1000 MILES. ON THE DOWN SIDE OF THE MOUNTAIN WHEN IT WOULDN'T SHIFT WE WOULD HAVE TO PULL TO THE EMERGENCY LANE, PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK, TURN OFF FOR A FEW MINUTES AND THEN TRY TO MERGE INTO TRAFFIC AGAIN AT 70+ MPH. OUR TRANSMISSION ACTED UP MORE THAN 4 TIMES DOING THIS. I HAVE ASKED FOR THE DEALERSHIP TO LOOK INTO IT AND THEY KEEP STATING THEY CAN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. WE LIVE IN INDIANA AND THE ROAD CONDITIONS ARE NOT THE SAME HOWEVER THE HARD SHIFTING OCCURS HERE. WE ARE STILL UNDER ORIGINAL MANUFACTURE WARRANTY AT THIS TIME. WHEN THE VEHICLE DOES FINALLY SHIFT INTO GEAR, IT FEELS AS THOUGH THE BACK OF THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN HIT BECAUSE IT LURCHES FORWARD IN SUCH AN EXTREME AND FORCEFUL MANNER. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN COMPLAINED UPON BY MANY 2015 RENEGADE OWNERS AND UPON BRINGING THE CAR IN FOR MAINTENANCE, ARE TOLD ITS 'JUST THE WAY THE CAR IS BUILT' OR 'IT'S PERFORMING AS IT'S SUPPOSED TO'. THEY CLAIMED IT WAS THE OIL, THE BATTERY, ELECTRONICS, OR THAT IT WAS DRIVEN AWKWARDLY, ETC. THEY HAVE HELD THE VEHICLE FOR OVER 30DAYS, DID SOFTWARE FIXES, CHANGED THE OIL, CHANGED THE BATTERY. I ALSO WENT THROUGH THE CHRYSLER DISPUTE RESOLUTION. WHICH WAS UNFAVORABLE TO MYSELF DUE TO DEALERSHIP CLAIMING NOTHING WAS WRONG. DEALERSHIP DID NOT NOTATE TRUE EXPERIENCES WITH THE VEHICLE TO CHRYSLER. VEHICLE STILL STALLED AND LUNGED THEREAFTER. I REFUSED TO DRIVE IT DUE TO SAFETY REASONS AND HAD DEALERSHIP BUY IT BACK AT BLUEBOOK VALUE SO THAT I COULD PURCHASE A SAFE RELIABLE VEHICLE. THERE IS A CLASS ACTION SUIT REGARDING THE TRANSMISSION. I DID NOT CLAIM INTO THE CLASS ACTION SUIT BECAUSE AT THE TIME, I WAS IN THE PROCESS OF THE DISPUTE RESOLUTION.

CAR STARTED FOR THEM THE NEXT DAY AND THEY SAID NO CODES SHOWED UP AND THAT THE CAR STOPPED BECAUSE IT WAS LOW ON OIL AND 200 MILES PAST TIME FOR AN OIL CHANGE. SAID THIS WAS A FEATURE OF THE CAR -IF IT WAS LOW ON OIL IT WOULD JUST DIE SO IT COULDN'T BE DAMAGED BY DRIVING IT WITH LOW, OR NO, OIL, AND THAT NO WARNING LIGHT WOULD COME ON. THEY CHANGED THE OIL, PRONOUNCED IT FIXED AND I GOT IT BACK. 3 DAYS LATER I WAS DRIVING HOME ON A HILLY, WINDY, 2-LANE ROAD, 25 MPH, THE CAR AGAIN LOST PROPULSION, THIS TIME WITHOUT JERKING FIRST. I WAS ABLE TO COAST DOWNHILL TO A WIDE SPOT IN THE ROAD AND STOP. WHEN THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND A "SERVICE ENGINE" MESSAGE APPEARED. CALLED MY HUSBAND, WHEN HE GOT THERE WE RESTARTED THE CAR AND IT WAS SHAKING LIKE CRAZY AND SOUNDED LIKE A BUNCH OF HEAVY METAL OBJECTS WERE BEING TUMBLED IN A METAL DRUM. CALLED ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AND THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE SAME DEALER AS BEFORE. AFTER 2 DAYS THEY CALLED ME AND SAID THAT IT NEEDED AN ENGINE WIRING HARNESS, CAM SHAFT SENSOR, CRANK SHAFT AND SPARK PLUGS, PLUS THE DIAGNOSTIC CHECK. WANTED ME TO PAY FOR THE WORK. CALLED MY EXTENDED WARRANTY COMPANY, THEY SAID IT HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE IT WAS PURCHASED SINCE IT WAS LESS THAN 40 MILES AWAY, SO IT WAS TOWED THERE. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAY THEY CAN'T DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. I LOOKED UP TRANSMISSION RECALLS AND FOUND S55, A TRANSMISSION RECALLED THAT DESCRIBED EXACTLY MY PROBLEM. I CALLED CHRYSLER AND THEY SAID WHILE MY CAR HAS THE TROUBLESOME 9 SPEED TRANSMISSION, THAT SOME RATIO WAS SET AT 3.7 SO THAT RECALL DOESN'T AFFECT MY VEHICLE. CLEARLY THIS DOES AFFECT MY VEHICLE BECAUSE MY SON AND I EXPERIENCED IT. WHAT DO I DO IF THIS HAPPENS AGAIN??!! THIS EXACT BEHAVIOR ALSO OCCURRED ON THE SAME SECTION (WITHIN 2 MI) OF HIGHWAY AT THE FOLLOWING ODOMETER READINGS: 4811, 5202, 28928, 29580 AND 29623. COMMON RPM'S ARE AROUND 3500 BUT VARIES SOMEWHAT EACH TIME AND USUALLY BETWEEN 50-65 MPH. THE CAR IS BEING DRIVEN IN FULL AUTOMATIC MODE AND IS UNRESPONSIVE IF ATTEMPTING TO SWITCH TO MANUAL MODE ONCE IT STARTS. CRUISE CONTROL WAS ONLY USED THE FIRST TIME. I QUIT USING IT AFTER THAT IN CASE THERE WAS ANY RELATION TO THE SHIFT SELECTIONS. THE GAP IN THE MILEAGES INDICATE THE ALMOST ALMOST 3 MONTHS THAT THE DEALERSHIP HAD THE VEHICLE AND THE TIME THAT I DID NOT EXPERIENCE THE PROBLEM- COLD MONTHS ONLY. WHEN USING "AUTOSTICK" TO DOWNSHIFT THE 9-SPEED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION THE COMPUTER "UNLOADS" THE DRIVETRAIN AND AT TIMES IT FEELS LIKE THE CAR IS BEING SHOT OUT OF A CANON. THIS IS WORST AT HIGHER SPEEDS, WHEN TOWING, AND ON DOWNGRADES. IT HAPPENS WHEN SHIFTING FROM 8 TO 7 AND 5 TO 4. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT THE CAR IS OPERATING "AS DESIGNED" SO THEY CAN'T DO ANYTHING. THE OTHER FIX IS A SOFTWARE UPDATE BUT I'VE GOTTEN ALL AVAILABLE AND THE PROBLEM PERSISTS. JEEP HAS THE SAME ATTITUDE. WHEN USING AUTOSTICK TO DOWNSHIFT FROM 5 TO 4 ON A 9% DOWNGRADE THE CAR SPEEDS UP FROM 45MPH TO 50 MPH DURING THE 2 SECOND SHIFT. THEN, BECAUSE OF OVERLY CONSERVATIVE DOWNSHIFT PROTOCOLS (THE ENGINE HAS A MAX RPM OF 6500 BUT DURING DOWNSHIFTING THE COMPUTER NEVER LETS IT EXCEED 3000 RPM), THE COMPUTER WON'T LET ME DOWNSHIFT THE TRANSMISSION AT ALL, THERE IS NO ENGINE BRAKING AND THE CAR KEEPS GAINING SPEED. AS LONG AS THE BRAKES ARE WORKING THERE IS HELP BUT WITHOUT NORMAL BRAKES THERE IS NO WAY TO SLOW THE CAR. THE COMPUTER KEEPS SAYING NO TO A DOWNSHIFT AND THERE IS NO EMERGENCY BRAKE, ONLY A PARKING BRAKE THAT IS EITHER ALL OFF OR ALL ON/REAR WHEELS LOCKED. LOCKING THE REAR WHEELS AT 70MPH, OR WORSE TURNING THE WHEELS TO MAKE A TURN WITH LOCKED REAR WHEELS RESULTS IN A SPIN AND THEN TRAGEDY. I TOOK DELIVERY OF THE CAR NEW IN OCTOBER OF 2015 AND IT HAS BEEN DOING THIS THE WHOLE TIME. ONE OF THE DEALER MECHANICS TOLD ME THAT THE REASON THIS HAPPENS IS THAT FOR THOSE SHIFTS A SLEEVE ON A SPLINED SHAFT HAS TO SLIDE SO ALL PRESSURE HAS TO BE REMOVE FROM THE SLEEVE. IT SOUNDS LIKE A BAD DESIGN FOR THE SAKE OF FUEL MILEAGE WITHOUT DUE CONSIDERATION FOR SAFETY.

THIS IS AN UPDATE TO AN EARLIER COMPLAINT (#10826148) ABOUT MY 6-SPEED MANUAL 4X4 2015 RENEGADE LATITUDE (WITH ~6490 MILES ON IT) WHICH WAS REVVING UNCONTROLLABLY, POPPING OUT OF CRUISE CONTROL, DIFFICULT TO GET INTO AND OUT OF GEAR AS WELL AS EXHIBITING POOR FUEL ECONOMY. AT FIRST, THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT SAID THEY COULDN'T REPLICATE ANY OF THE PROBLEMS, BUT I INSISTED THAT THEY KEEP THE CAR AND DRIVE IT FURTHER. THEY DID AND WERE ABLE TO SEE THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM. THAT WAS NEARLY ONE MONTH AGO. THEY KEPT THE CAR FOR 3 WEEKS FOR WHAT WAS DESCRIBED AS A PROBLEM WITH THE CLUTCH, A PART FOR WHICH (THE THROW-OUT BEARING) WAS ON BACK ORDER. I PICKED UP THE CAR THIS PAST FRIDAY 3/11/16, DROVE IT HOME AND PARKED IT IN MY GARAGE, HAPPY THAT IT WAS FIXED. OR SO I THOUGHT. SATURDAY MORNING, LESS THAN 24 HOURS SINCE BRINGING IT HOME, AS I WAS PREPARING TO GO OUT OF TOWN, THE CAR WOULD NOT GO INTO REVERSE, AND THERE IT SITS, STUCK IN MY GARAGE, TO BE TOWED BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP. THING IS, I HAD NOT TRIED OUT THE REVERSE ON IT WHEN I PICKED IT UP OR GOT IT HOME. I HAD A STRAIGHT RUN OUT OF THE GARAGE WHEN I PICKED IT UP, DROVE AROUND THE BUILDING AND THEN STRAIGHT TO MY HOME. I'M WONDERING IF THEY HAD NOT DONE SO TOO. NOW THAT IT IS NEARLY 30 DAYS OUT OF COMMISSION, I WILL PROBABLY TRY TO GET THE CAR DECLARED A LEMON AND ASK THE DEALERSHIP TO BUY IT BACK. I DON'T WANT TO DO THAT BUT I DO NOT FEEL SAFE IN IT, EVEN IF THEY WERE TO FIX THE CLUTCH AGAIN. FIRST TIME THEY UPDATED THE COMPUTER EVEN THOUGH THEY SAID THEY DID NOT NOTICE ANY ISSUES DURING THEIR TEST DRIVE. SECOND TIME THE TECH SAID HE FELT IT AND FIXED THE PROBLEM WITH A MODULE UPDATE. IT DID RIDE GREAT AFTER THAT-BUT LASTED FOR ONLY ONE DAY. TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK FOR THE THIRD TIME AND THEY DID NOTHING-SAID THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE WHOLE TIME I AM THINKING MAYBE I AM IMAGING THE ISSUE,ONLY TO SPEAK TO ANOTHER CUSTOMER IN THE WAITING ROOM ABOUT HER ONGOING ISSUES IN HER 2012 CHEROKEE-SAME TRANSMISSION AS IN THE RENEGADE. NOW, THE INTERIOR LIGHTS DIM AND COME BACK ON AND THE FRONT WIPERS COME ON WHEN YOU TURN THE BACK WIPERS ON. THE VEHICLE HAS 2070 MILES ON IT. AFTER READING THE OTHER COMPLAINTS (CAR STALLING WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS) I AM CONCERNED ABOUT DRIVING IT. THE SERVICE MAN SAID I COULD BRING IT BACK-WHICH I AM GOING TO TOMORROW. ON FEBRUARY 15, 2015 WITH 8260 MILES THE SERVICE TRANSMISSION LIGHT CAME ON AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. AFTER HAVING THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE NEAREST DEALER I WAS INFORMED THAT IT WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE COMPUTER AND IT HAD BEEN REPROGRAMMED. ON FEBRUARY 22, 2015 THE SAME ERROR OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE NEAREST DEALER. I WAS INFORMED THE NEXT DAY THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED.

I PURCHASED MY 2015 RENEGADE LATITUDE 6-SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION VEHICLE LAST FALL AND FOUND THAT FROM THE BEGINNING AT TIMES I HAD DIFFICULTY GETTING IT INTO GEAR. I'VE BEEN DRIVING MANUAL TRANSMISSION CARS (ALL SEDANS UNTIL THIS) FOR NEARLY 35 + YEARS SO I'M FAMILIAR WITH HOW TO SHIFT ETC. I KNEW AND EXPECTED THAT THERE'D BE A LEARNING CURVE AS EVERY VEHICLE IS DIFFERENT. BUT BY NOW IT SHOULD BE RESOLVED. INSTEAD, IT HAS WORSENED. I HAVE MANEUVERED AROUND THE MINOR PROBLEMS -THOSE AT LOWER SPEEDS-HAVING TO DOWNSHIFT A FEW TIMES WHEN I NEEDED TO UPSHIFT (I RELY ON SOUND AND THE RPMS AS MY GUIDE). THE CAR NOW HAS 6200 MILES ON IT (A MIX OF BACK ROAD DRIVING WITH SUBURBAN STREETS AND SOME HIGHWAY) AND IT IS NOW REVVING UNCONTROLLABLY AT TIMES, THROWING ME OUT OF CRUISE CONTROL, ACTING AS IF ON ICE WHEN THERE IS NONE, SURGING FORWARD WHEN I HAVEN'T ACCELERATED. AND THE ADVERTISED 31/27 MPG HAS NOT HAPPENED. I AM NOW DOWN TO 23 MPG. I WILL BE DROPPING IT OFF TOMORROW FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND FOR THEM TO LOOK AT THIS REVVING PROBLEM AND THE LOW MPG. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS CAR, WHICH I LOVE VERY MUCH, ASIDE FROM THE PROBLEMS BTW. I AM CONCERNED BECAUSE I SEE THAT THERE HAVE BEEN COMPLAINTS LISTED ON SITES ABOUT JUST THIS THING AND IT IS A REMINDER OF THE OUT OF CONTROL ACCELERATION PROBLEMS OF CARS IN YEARS PAST (LIKE WITH AUDI). TOOK TO THE DEALERSHIP & THEY DID AN UPDATE ON THE TRANSMISSION SOFTWARE. THAT MADE IT BETTER FOR ONLY A SHORT TIME. MY CAR STARTED DOING IT AGAIN BUT WAS A LOT WORSE. CAR HAD 14000 MILES ON IT & IT WAS JERKING INTO GEAR. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP & THEY VERIFIED THE ROUGH SHIFTING SAID THEY WERE TOLD BY CHRYSLER TO DO A RELEARN PROCEDURE ON TRANSMISSION & THAT SOMETIMES WILL CORRECT THE ISSUE. THE TRANSMISSION ISN'T JERKING INTO GEAR AT THE MOMENT BUT YOU CAN STILL FEEL IT SHIFT INTO GEAR. THINK THIS PROBLEM REALLY NEEDS TO BE RESEARCHED.

THE 2015 JEEP RENEGADE HAS HAD ABOUT 800 MILES WHEN THE PROBLEM APPEARED. I WAS DRIVING ON A FREEWAY AT 70 MPH. ALL THE SUDDEN, THE CAR STARTED JERKING AND THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE EVEN WHEN I PUSH THE PEDAL AS I INTENDED. SO I GOT OFF THE FREEWAY AND STARTED DRIVING LOCAL AT LOWER SPEED, AND THE CAR WAS ACTING EVEN MORE WEIRD. THE CAR WAS JERKING AND CAME TO STOP. THE ENGINE WAS ON BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT GO. LUCKILY, IT WAS AT NIGHT TIME AND IN RESIDENTIAL AREA, THERE WERE ONLY FEW CARS AROUND SO THEY COULD DRIVE AROUND. I CHANGED THE AUTOMATIC MODE, 'D', TO THE SEMI-MANUAL MODE. THE FREQUENCY OF THE JERKING REDUCED BUT THE CAR CAME TO A STOP AGAIN WHILE I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 6 MILES TO DROP THE CAR AT A REPAIR SHOP AT A MFG AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP. THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED SERIOUS PROPERTY DAMAGE AND BODILY HARM. I WAS LUCKY THAT THERE WERE MANY CARS AROUND AT THE TIME AND THE CAR DID NOT STALL ON THE FREEWAY. I AM NOT AN EXPERT, BUT THE PROBLEM SEEMED TO BE RELATED TO THE POWER TRAIN (AND SPEED CONTROL POSSIBLY.) I HOPE I AM THE ONLY PERSON WITH THE PROBLEM. THIS PROBLEM MUST BE ASSESSED AND APPROPRIATE ACTION NEEDS TO BE TAKEN. MY CAR IS CURRENTLY AT A REPAIR SHOP AND WILL BE ASSESSED, HOPEFULLY TOMORROW.

DROVE HOME SLOWLY THEN HAD TOWED TO DEALER. SEE ONLINE THAT THE 9 SPEED 948TE AUTO TRANSMISSION IS A PROBLEM. WHY ISN'T ANYONE LOOKING AT THIS?? DEALER HAS JEEP AND HAS DONE 7 SOFTWARE UPDATES AND AREN'T SURE IF IT WILL FIX THE PROBLEM. I PAID $28,000 AND DON'T KNOW IF THE &#@% THING IS GOING TO DO THIS EVERY TIME I LEAVE THE DRIVEWAY.
