Catalytic Converter. Part was recalled on the same engine but cuts off at 2016, however, my 2017 has the exact same engine and exact same issue as the recall issued to prior years. The problem has been confirmed by a dealership and mechanic. I have had a check engine light on to notify me of this error.
Fan blade detached from fan motor
While accelerating on freeway, engine suddenly turned off. Fuel pump went out, and I had to coast to safety avoiding traffic. Having to move lanes into the shoulder was incredibly scary once my momentum dropped to 15mph on a freeway alongside cars going 85+. It almost caused 2 separate accidents where others had to slam on their brakes. I noticed other renegades have recalls for this, I’m curious why mine does not when I enter in the vin?
While driving my car, all of a sudden all my icons on my dashboard will light up. My car will die in the middle of driving it and once I put it in park it won't restart. Also when driving it seems like not enough gas is going through to get it to move. I can be driving my car for 15 to 20 minutes and all of a sudden it dies in the middle of the road. This is the 3rd time it has happened to me since owning it all withing the last year.. It is unsafe for me to have my car die in the middle of the road while traffic is all around me. Something is absolutely wrong with my car. Yet I put in my vin for my particular car and it doesn't show a recall but on the 2017 Jeep Renegades there have been recalls for fuel pumps electrical and not enough fuel pressure.
The car keeps shutting off while driving. Had to replace battery twice in the last few months. Also had relays replaced. Problem keeps happening. Something is draining the battery. I read there were problems with this make and model where even when the vehicle is shut off, certain connections remain active and drains. Shutting down with no warning while driving is very unsafe.

The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, at an altitude of 10,000 ft., the vehicle experienced a loss of automotive power before the vehicle stalled. The contact stated that there were construction barriers on the road, and the contact was not able to get to the side of the road. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the cause of the failure could not be determined. The contact stated that the failure had occurred approximately seven times. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was informed that a diagnostic test was needed. The contact declined and stated that the failure occurred while the temperature outside was high and hot, and the vehicle was driven on a steep hill. Upon further investigation, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V731000 (Fuel System, Gasoline). The manufacturer was notified of the failure and advised the contact to have the dealer check the Flex Fuel/E85 system. The manufacturer advised the contact to have the dealer open a star case. The failure mileage was unknown.
Something shot out of the engine and caused a large hole the car never overheated and oil changes were done properly. The dealership says sometimes these things just happen and is unable to tell me what shot through the engine.
While driving, the Service Engine warning came on and was followed by the Coolant Temperature High Warning roughly 5 minutes after. The somewhat cool air coming out turned hot, even with the settings set to Max Cool Air. Turned the vehicle off and found the engine code P0481 Fan 2 Control Circuit, I allowed the car to cool before checking fuses for the Cooling Fan. The F07 Engine Cooling Fan had a 40 Amp Fuse that was blown (Note: the owner manual states the 40 Amp fuse is for the 1.4 without A/C, the 50 Amp Red was required for a 1.4 with A/C and all 2.4 models). A new 50 Amp Maxi Fuse was installed and the car A/C cooled down for approximately 15 minutes. Then the coolant temperature started to rise again and white/grey smoke came out from under the hood. Thankfully I was able to find a safe place to stop my car, but I was driving with smoke obscuring my vision which was a serious safety issue that would have caused an accident especially if I had made it on the highway. The cooling fan was shaking and very noisy even as the car was turned off. After cooling down, the fuse was checked again and verified okay. So the cooling fan was replaced. Upon replacement, the A/C and coolant temperature were normal. But the service engine light remained and the code P0481 refused to clear. Currently monitoring the coolant temperature and new fan.
While driving, my Jeep has shut off multiple times. When it comes back on it just says “service power steering” and doesn’t have anything come up when diagnosing.
My car continues to shut off while you're driving down the road.Then it won't start for a little bit!
my grandfather has own he renegade since it came out in 2017. it has had nothing but issues most of which as his granddaughter i had fixed. but the last at least year I've had his vehicle illuminate a check engine light. Especially in very wet weather, cold or hot weather. If it's a normal 65-degree days for a few days, it will go off. it's a very intermittent light. that you have to catch. Taken to AutoZone, dealership, etc. It's a P0420 code which is failed catalytic converter. called and spoke to Stellantis, Mopar customer service multiple times. it's not an issue they refuse to acknowledge. also pricing for a catalytic converter isn't possible. because the only available ones are on back order hard.
Engine malfunction with unpredictable times of hard shift jolting. It's a concern while driving and frightened when it happens. Not sure if this could get worse and could be a safety risk. Took to a dealer. Did not act up when they checked it. It has to be driven all the time to catch when it decides to act up. Happens between 2 to 3 and down from 4th to 3rd gear. No engine light indicates a problem. When I had other things fixed, I had mechanic to check it out. Invoice mentioned what was fixed but nothing stating about them running a test on what I have additionally been experiencing with the jolt as it shifts since it didn't do it at the time. Had transmission flushed hoping it would help but still does it.

The check engine warning light had been illuminated for almost a year and the oil light was frequently illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle was experiencing excessive oil consumption. The vehicle was driven to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with ignition cylinder compression failure, and the engine consuming an excessive amount of oil. The local dealer was contacted; however, the vehicle was not repaired because the vehicle was not under recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. I have a 2017 Jeep Renegade Latitude. I bought it in 2020 and had it for 2 weeks when the engine blew up. There was a recall on the engine so Chrysler paid for the “new” engine. Two weeks after I got it back it started stalling out when I was driving down the road. I had a new starter put in it and now when it decides to shut down while driving the brakes come on, including the emergency brakes, it comes to a screeching halt, and the gear shift throws itself from drive into park. I just want to either get my car fixed or Stellantis to trade with me to make things right. It is very unsafe to drive. Especially when you don’t know when it is going to do this because it doesn’t happen every time you drive the car.
My 2017 Jeep Renegade is at a dealership for the third time. When I am accelerating at around 29 MPH, there is a sudden jerk. It also occurs around 53 MPH. It startles me every time this event occurs. Each time, I pay a deductible and the problem isn't fixed. Retirement isn't conducive to $500 repair bills. Can you help? This is definitely a problem with this model and needs to be rectified.
The first generation with the 1.4l turbo engine. Had two air lines coming off of the air filter container. They are solid and break when the dealer does the courtesy check during oil changes. It is a common problem showing online and the dealers do not take responsibility for it
On 7/26/2024 I was driving my 2017 Jeep Renegade 1.4L Eastbound on I-70 going ~65mph. My dash had zero warning lamps or messages and there were no other symptoms of any problem yet suddenly at mile marker 188 my engine had no power, abundant smoke exited my tailpipe and engine, and I was forced to immediately pull over into a shallow construction zone with heavy interstate traffic whizzing past us. I turned my vehicle off and just turned the power back on for any information. Only then did the check engine light illuminate. I searched through my dash indicators and saw that there was simply no reading for Oil Temperature. I have immaculate maintenance records since the day I purchased my vehicle in 2019 including regular full synthetic oil and filter changes (on average 2,989 miles for years). I had two multi-point vehicle inspections at my original dealer (my due diligence maintenance before my extended warranty expired) around 2,000 miles, an oil change 1,038 miles, and a cooling system pressure test at 1,029 miles before this incident occurred. I had two independent, certified mechanic companies diagnose and confirm my vehicle condition: Cylinder 1 had no compression with a crack in the piston. My vast research on Jeep Renegades with 1.4L and 2.4L engines validates all my issues. I believe this catastrophic engine failure at a shocking odometer reading of 61,881 is due to a defect and it puts me and others at major safety risk. This was my second financially offensive event as my first involved having to replace my clutch system at mile 45,057 for ~$4,500 despite having owned and properly operated other manuals with no issue for years. In addition to the cost of maintenance, multiple expensive repairs, numerous towing events, mechanic diagnostics, renting cars when this Jeep failed me, I am now looking at a $10,000 engine fix for a historically unreliable vehicle. Sudden stop entrance to an exit ramp. The engine stalled and started leaking the fluid caused some and flames - fire department had to be called. . Had to replace the engine for approx. $6600 We are still waiting on parts for the seat belts this has been over a year with jeep. The parts are backordered. The seatbelts come undone constantly on both the driver and passenger sides. Parts are $330 and labor is approx. $400 total $730. There are 90000 Jeep Wranglers with this same issues but they were recalled. We can't even get the parts it's been over a year. Axle on left side of jeep was broke -took jeep to have serviced for oil and tire rotation. Service person found that the axel was broke. Cost $1500 Service man stated the axel was like a straw.
1st issue was the a/c unit which mechanic said was a factory defective part. Replaced under warranty & now is not working again. 2nd issue is coolant & flushing system. replaced las year & mechanic said it was a factory defective part. This was 2 different mechanics. I just had my car overheat on me again nearly a year later with sludge in the tank AGAIN. I AM PAYONG WAYYYYY TOO MUCH MONEY for this to be on me again! I need repairs done at your cost and a car to drive.
This Jeep Renegade model have had various problems including rapid oil loss caused by cracks in the oil pump housing, as well as a loss in fuel pressure and I believe I’m experiencing these problems and there hasn’t been a recall for me vehicle so Id like to see if it needs to be recalled
Car stalled in the middle of the busy road with no warning when accelerating from a right turn between 12-24 mph and a "low oil pressure sensor" light displayed and disappeared for 3 seconds. Received oil change that day and Valvoline did not mention any concerns about oil level. The next day, my car had been driving for 10+ min and struggled to accelerate out of light, specifically in range of 30-45 mph and the RPMs shot up to 3000. Car kept running but struggled to down shift. Terrified of this happening on my daily interstate and state roads drive, especially in winter!!! Taking to dealership service department to hopefully get this huge safety issue fixed.

THE MYSKY FEATURE ON THIS PARTICULAR MODEL ALONG WITH OTHERS VEHICLE HAS BROKE AND NOT WORKING. THE MAIN CONCERN FOR ALOT OF US IS THE BRACKETS THAT SLIDE THE ROOF OPEN AND CLOSE ARE BREAKING VERY EASILY. THERE ARE MANY JEEP RENEGADE USERS THAT ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUES. THE JEEP DEALERSHIP HAS ALSO SAID THE SAME THAT THEY FIX ALOT OF THESE ISSUES AND ARE NOT COVERED. THIS CAN ALSO BE A SAFETY ISSUE SINCE IT IS AN ESCAPE FROM A VEHICLE IF THE DOORS BECOME UNABLE TO OPEN.
This car is a lemon and the entire car should be a recall. Shortly after having it I had to replace the tires , brakes , suspension. Then just a couple months ago I had a sediment in the coolant that is very rare and the only time the mechanic experienced that was on recall cars where (not sure if I am saying this correctly) dust is left when they cast the engine in production. And it takes years for it to build up and destroy your car. Now it’s at jeep in Dade city Fl and they said the engine is bad … after spending $950 on the sediment issue. Another $980 a couple weeks ago for battery , spark plugs , computer software update etc. now they want another $700 just to open my engine up and see what’s wrong. I am done. So as of now I have no car. Jeep only offered me $2k to buy it from me. And I still owe $12k. And I put about $3k into it in the last 5 months. This should be illegal to sell a lemon like this and leave a consumer like me more than $12k out. And from my research. Many others have the same complaint. Something legally should be done about this.
Related to recall V54, Engine Cooling Fan abruptly stopped working causing the vehicle to overheat and having to have costly dealer repairs. I was told that my VIN # was not included in the the recall but did experience the exact Issue listed in recall. Replaced Fan not knowing about this recall only to still have engine computer issues now with vehicle related to overheating. Currently at a dealership with a month waiting time to repair.
This vehicle only has about 55,000 miles on it and the transmission is failing, somewhere between four and six gear the car starts jerking
There is something wrong with the oil system. My 2017 Jeep Renegade burns through the oil, really bad. At approx 25,000 miles, I took it to the dealership, they ran a test and said I am within specs of burning a quart of oil for every 600 miles. What?? On a brand new vehicle? I have also experienced the vehicle shutting down in the middle of the highway! Dangerous and Scary! I will be driving along and all of a sudden the vehicle just shuts down, it takes a couple attempts to get it restarted. I put in a 1/2-1 quart of oil and it runs again. This shutting off in the middle of the road has been happening since 25,000 miles and I now have 119,000 miles.

The component involved involves the oil. My Jeep keeps running out of oil to the point where we have to keep putting more in. A couple times the car has turned off because of this problem. I brought the car to my mechanic only to find out the oil was completely gone. I’m lucky the motor didn’t go. I do have the oil changed every 3,000 miles but after only 2000 miles I get the message saying I need an oil change. The car is only 6 years old and only has 36,000 miles on it. I don’t what is going on but to me it seems there is a leak somewhere. I am afraid to drive it.

Vehicle has been serviced twice for “drive train software updates,” and is yet again having engine issues with shifting gears and acceleration.
My fuel gauge went bad, resulting in me running out of gas when it stated I had over 1/4 tank left. So that $80 tow bill was fun. Also, my coolant temperature light just started coming on today, reaching all the way up to the top and red light when I was idling at stop lights. It would return to middle while driving, then ramp up to the top when idling. By searching the recalls with my VIN, it states I have no recalls to fix. However, after speaking with an FCA Recall Center representative, I was told to take it into a dealership so they could diagnose it as a manufacturing defect. Let me also state I'm not thrilled with this dealership and they have been sneaky in the past, gaslighting me about the excessive oil consumption and blaming me, when it was a recall that they later fixed (James River Jeep, Ozark, Missouri).
Fuel system or engine failure to start vehicle. Malfunctioning, as well as excess oil consumption. Dealerships are neglect to address the issues. There is a recall for the make, model, and year of my vehicle but my VIN was not listed but I believe it should be.
Cooling motor fan is shorted and causing fan fuse to blow therefore causing engine to overheat which can blow it up and cause EXTREME SAFETY ISSUES. There should be an active recall on my vehicle as the cooling fan needs completely replaced and I have looked this problem up and other 2015-2017 Jeep Renegades have had this problem with active recalls.
When driving down Interstate 35, my vehicle stalled in the middle of traffic. I was able to coast to the shoulder of the interstate. Once I was out of harms way, I attempted to start my vehicle again; it would start, but at any attempt to put transmission in drive, it would stall. After the vehicle sat for approximately 10 mins, the vehicle started and I continued to my destination with no problems. Two days later, the same thing happened when taking my grandchildren to school. The vehicle stalled in the middle of the road; a Good Samaritan helped me push the vehicle out of the road. Once again, after several attempts to start it, the vehicle would die when trying to put in drive, but after a short time, it started and continued with no problems. Due to multiple electronic, wiring, and unexplainable issues I have had with this vehicle in the past, I began researching issues others had reported to various sites, and it was the first time I had seen an option to report to NHTSA. I had a similar issue in March of last year; my vehicle was at three different shops. The first two could not determine how to fix it. The third shop (after weeks of trying to determine the problem) replaced an ignition coil. It ran good until this incident. This is most definitely a safety concern as it happens unexpectedly with no warning at all.
The coolant loses too fast, like one cup coolant per one thousand miles. But coolant dripping can be found.
While accelerating at a certain speed and letting go of the pedal the vehicle stalls causing a loud cluck sound depending of the speed of the acceleration. I am not sure if this issue will cause the vehicle to break down or cause other problems in the near future. In the beginning of November 2022, the drivers side has been making clunking noises when ever I reverse and while slowly taking from. It is Nov 25, and I have been told is the struts that have signs of defective because of the tires wearing down from the inner side. Also, I was told by a different mechanic the motor mount may be loose, and now the wheel bearing. I've replaced the wheel bearing on the driver's side and the noise has not completely left but the replacement helped. I am hoping the struts make the difference along with swapping to street tires.
Just purchased this Jeep August 31, 2022. This is the 2nd time that while driving the vehicle suddenly shows very high RPM and will barely move. Could the previous repair to the engine recall have failed? I have an appointment to take the vehicle for service again. The first time the dealership said they did updates to fix the problem.
When you get up to 29-30 mph the vehicle will jerk. Sometimes so hard it feels like you have been hit in the back in. I took it in 3 times to be checked out. This is the explanation they gave me for why my car does this. That newer vehicles get used to one person driving it and when someone else does then goes back to the original person it knows this. So it is trying to relearn the driving pattern. I know cars are a lot smarter now. Not that smart though. I know something is making it do this. No one can give me a real explanation.
After getting gas on two occasions, today being the worst, my car shut off as I was exiting the gas station. My vehicle has started rough on a few other occasions, which I have spoken to my dealership. To which I was told maybe I wasn’t pushing the start button long enough. I was clearly concerned for my safety and my mothers because she was in the vehicle with me. I was also concerned for the oncoming traffic. I have taken it to the dealership for a diagnostic test because the engine light comes on and off. The code came up for a slight evap leak. I have been waiting for that part for about 3 months now. This usually only happens after I get gas. I am so worried that it’s going to start happening all the time or I am going to get into a bad accident.
Engine is burning oil. One recall issued and answered with a software update. Update has not fixed problem. Dealership did an oil consumption test. Dealership said it passed despite the fact it lost half a quart of oil in 1500 miles. My oil change is now right around the corner and it's over a quart low on oil. Oil light only comes on when it's just shy of bone dry. It is not normal or safe to have this much oil consumption in such a short amount of time.
Engine uses excessive amounts of oil. We took the car in twice to do an oil consumption test, which resulted in one quart per 1,000 miles. The dealer says this is normal. This is a five year old car with 60,000 miles on it, which is average. We have other FCA products that consume imperceptible amounts of oil between scheduled oil changes (every six months or 10,000 miles). I have old cars with hundreds of thousands of miles that don't consume oil to this extent. Maybe it's normal for this vehicle or, more precisely, this engine, but it is not normal for the average car.
Went to start my jeep, started & stalled. Oil pan had rusted & all oil came out with no evidence from instrument panel that I had a problem at anytime before or after. When I called the dealership I bought it from they said they seen a lot of this. Was no longer under warranty as it only covered up to 60,000 miles. It would cost me out of pocket a little over $500. Took it to my private mechanic to fix as my experience with Jeep Service departments is there is no service. I'm not sure of the difference in price between my mechanic & the dealer.
The vehicle will go about 80 miles then just completely shut down while driving. It can be restarted but will continue to die unless you turn it off for at least 1 day Very dangerous
My engine cooling system is malfunctioning. My safety is at risk and can put others at risk while I am driving because the engine can permanently malfunction I lose control of my car. I have let the dealer at my local center Costa Mesa California Jeep Dealership and the representative did not help with my situation. The dealership installed a new engine due to a recall letter I received for my vehicle. I believe its the dealerships responsibility to fix the engine cooling system problem since they have just replaced a new engine on my vehicle. The problem first appeared since the day I picked up my vehicle from the dealership. I smelled coolant liquid from the first day and advisor just said that its normal to smell coolant because I just got a new engine installed for my vehicle.
I was on the expressway and all of a sudden I couldn’t accelerate. The engine completed died. I just used a little smarts to get off before it completely stopped. No warning lights no warning at all.

I received a recall notice for engine consuming too much oil at which around the same time I was driving when the engine stalled on me in the middle of the road. I went to the dealer and they mentioned that engine was empty of oil. An oil consumption test was done and yielded normal results according to the dealership. Fresh oil change was given and after 3000 miles, the same problem occurred: engine stalled on me in the middle of the road way before the manufacturer recommended oil change interval. I called FCA Chrysler manufacturer who told me to go to another dealership. I go to another dealership and they said the same thing: oil consumption is normal. Dealer has been overfilling oil to compensate for the oil consumption so that when I return for oil changes or to complain, the oil leves appear to be normal.

Also, while driving on the freeway at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle suddenly lost motive power and stalled. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer who replaced the alternator. Also, the vehicle had experienced various intermittent electrical failures where the doors locks, key fob, and instrument cluster would not operate. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed the failure as due to an electrical failure in the entertainment system. The entertainment system was replaced. The failure mileage was 20,000.

There is a recall on the 2017 renegade but somehow my jeep isn’t on the list even though I am having the exact issue - they think the oil pump isn’t working correctly. The vehicle just stops driving when in drive. Which is terrifying. It happened twice and we contacted FCA twice to have them do nothing. They said we have to drive the vehicle for 2000 miles in order to read the oil level - which is nuts. I can’t get in a vehicle that just stops working while driving, it’s a huge liability. It’s been sitting at the service department in a dealership for a year and a half and no one will help.
Vehicle shuts off while driving as well as taking turns. Just shuts off with no warning. After it shuts off the lightning bolt in parentheses (electronic throttle control system) comes on, then goes away. Car shows as still running, but won't move. The low oil gauge comes on and then car stops moving. Very unsafe for vehicle to just "stop moving" or "shut off" in the middle of driving, or in the middle of an intersection. When this happens, I have to put the car in park, turn it off and then start it again. It usually takes several attempts to get it to start. It happens when I’m going at a slow rate of speed.
When I am driving the car, it jerks. I have all my maintenance up to par. The dealership can find nothing wrong with it.

My car is stalling as I drive. It is completely shutting off. I had recall w84 performed. The problem is believed to be the recall UB2. This has been confirmed by a dealer. I am afraid for my life and believe that this defect will likely cause a crash.

Car is hesitating and bucking, shaking. Engine light came on and stayed on. Engine light flashes intermittently. It is available upon request. i see that some 2017-2018 renegades had an engine recall but it doesn't show up on this web site for this vin. I didn't see a "code" but not sure where i would see that anyway. This began yesterday when we were 80 miles from home. Made it back.
Vehicle stalled after overheating and now has a blown head gasket
I have a 2017 Jeep Renegade. The engine needs to be completely replaced due to faulty manufactured engine. It would randomly turn off or stall, or sometimes engine kept turning and wouldn’t start. The bearings broke off inside the engine and now JEEP is trying NOT to cover it and I can’t get any help after speaking to 7 diff Case Managers. There has been zero help from them in regards to their liability in this. There is already a class action lawsuit filed, in 2020. It is sad that they are handling clients this way. I was very nice and I work in customer service so I understand what is possible etc. The Jeep mechanic locally , called on my case to verify and tell them that my engine needs to be replaced as a direct correlation of the recalled parts and that they were on back order for months. During those months I tried to have recalled parts replaced and couldn’t because the parts are on back order. During this time my warranty became invalid, because I exceeded 60,000 miles. I’m currently at 62,000 miles. At the time I attempted to have recalls fixed I was under 60,000 miles. Secondly the warranty expires In 2022. Regardless , the recalls caused the engine needing to be replaced. Please advise what my options are to ensure I don’t have to pay to replace the whole engine. Thank you

The engine oil was replaced however, after 1,500 miles the failure recurred, and the engine was replaced with a new engine. The failure recurred. The car only has 23k miles and the engine cooling fan has ceased to work. I had to stop on the side of the road for over an hour when I noticed the coolant temperature rising to dangerous levels. Jeep issued a recall for this part on Renegades but my VIN was not included in the recall for some reason even though it was obviously affected.

We brought the car for the second appointment to complete the mopar W80 recall which was supposed to be done after 1500 miles from the first service. The tech TJ from Autonation Chrysler, Jeep Ram in Katy Texas told me on 07/28/21 that our car was the first car that had come up that was consuming oil and that he thought the engine needed to be replaced. He said the request had been sent to mopar for approval. On 07/29/21 he called and stated that mopar had instructed that since we went 400 miles above the 1500 miles required for the second appointment, that we needed to drive it for another 1500 miles and bring it back. The tech confirmed the engine is consuming oil, we are told we are past 400 miles but asked to go another 1500 miles before the issue is addressed. This places my family and my daughter who drives this car at risk. Hope you can help address the situation.
While driving jeep will turn off on its own and oil pressure low warning turns on. This is really unsafe since it’s happened twice and on a busy street.

The 2.4 liter Tiger Shark Engine, burns one quart of oil every 1000 miles. Mine has only 32800 miles on it. Jeep sent me a email telling me about this. It affects 2015 thru 2020 year models with is engine.
Engine stalled. Restarted after fifteen minutes then quickly stalled again. Restarted again after thirty minutes (and continued operating as we turned around to return home. We were on the shoulder in heavy traffic on I-70 east of Loveland Pass in Colorado with light trailer in tow, Dealer reports it could not reproduce the problem. Vehicle was inspected by dealer service department. No symptoms or warning lamps came on prior to stalling. Engine temperature gauge was in normal range. Fuel level was between quarter and half tank. So, no warning beforehand.

THIS OCCURRED TWO MORE TIMES WHILE STOPING AT RED TRAFFIC LIGHTS. THE NEXT DAY ON THE WAY TO GET THE OIL CHANGED THE BEHAVIOR WAS THE SAME. IF THE JEEP DEACCELERATED TOO QUICKLY, OR WENT AROUND A SHARP CORNER THE LOW OIL LIGHT CAME ON AND THE THE ENGINE STALLED. AFTER THE FIRST STALL, THAT HAPPENED AT A STOP SIGN, THE ENGINE HAD DIFFICULTY STARTING. I NEEDED TO TRY THREE TIMES BEFORE IT STARTED. AFTER THE OIL CHANGE IT IS OK. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME IT IS NORMAL THAT SOME ENGINES NEED TO HAVE OIL ADDED, ONE QUART, BETWEEN OIL CHANGES. I TOLD THEM THAT WAS NOT TRUE AND THIS WAS AN UNSAFE DEFECT.

I WAS ABLE TO GET IT INTO A DEALER SAME DAY & THEY REPLACED A COIL & SPARK PLUG- GETTING THE CAR BACK ON THE ROAD. THEY ALSO REPLACED THE STEREO DUE TO ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. THIS COST WAS PARTIALLY COVERED THROUGH MY TOYOTA CARE WARRANTY. OTHER PROBLEMS:THE TRANSMISSION ALSO HAS TROUBLE FINDING THE RIGHT GEAR WHEN ACCELERATING & OFTEN JERKS OR STALLS. THERE IS ALSO A VIBRATION/ RATTLE SOUND COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT IN FRONT OF THE PASSENGER SIDE. MY DEALERSHIP DOESN'T WANT TO HELP FIGURE OUT THE OTHER PROBLEMS, IF THE CAR IS OPERATING. THE CAR WOULD SHAKE BADLY WHEN IT REACHED 30 MPH AND AGAIN AT 40 MPH. TOOK CAR TO DEALERSHIP NEXT MORNING THINKING IT WAS BAD FUEL, BUT WAS FOUND TO BE BAD IGNITION COILS. WHEN IT DOES FINALLY START, I WAIT A FEW SECONDS AND AM THEN ABLE TO DRIVE AGAIN NORMALLY. THIS HAS HAPPENED MORE THAN SEVERAL TIMES NOW IN THE PAST YEAR. IT IS ALSO WORTH NOTING THAT I SCHEDULE MY VEHICLE FOR REGULAR OIL CHANGES AS RECOMMENDED, BUT I OFTEN GET AN OIL PRESSURE LOW WARNING, SOMETIMES RIGHT BEFORE THE VEHICLE STALLS. WE WERE ONLY MIDWAY THROUGH OIL CHANGE AND WE ONLY SERVICE OUR CAR AT THE DEALER. WE TOOK CAR TO DEALER AND THEY SAID THAT USING A QUART OF OIL EVERY 2000 MILES IS NORMAL. IT MAY BE NORMAL FOR THIS CAR BUT IT IS NOT NORMAL FOR ANY CAR WE HAVE EVER OWNED. IT IS UNACCEPTABLE THAT THEY DID NOT INFORM US AT OIL CHANGES THAT WE WERE HAVING TROUBLE MAINTAINING OUR OIL LEVELS. THIS WOULD EVENTUALLY CAUSE OUR CAR ENGINE TO FAIL AND CREATE A SAFETY HAZARD WHILE DRIVING AS THE ENGINE COULD TURN OFF FROM LACK OF OIL. THEY DID AN OIL CHANGE AND TOLD ME THAT THE 2.4L ENGINES IN THE 2017 RENEGADE TEND TO BURN OIL FASTER THAN OTHER ENGINE MODELS. I WAS TOLD TO COME BACK IN 500 MILES SO THAT THEY COULD CHECK MY OIL. FAST FORWARD 2 WEEKS AND I HIT 500 MILES. I MADE MY APPOINTMENT AND TOOK MY CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY CHECKED MY ENGINE AND RAN A CONSUMPTION TEST. IN 500 MILES I BURNED THROUGH 2QUARTS OF OIL. MY RENEGADE MADE IT TO 27,392 MILES BEFORE THIS ISSUE. I WAS BEING TOLD THAT I WOULD GET A NEW MOTOR. THEY HAD MY CAR FOR ABOUT 5 DAYS AND I NOW HAVE A NEW MOTOR. THIS FIRST OCCURRED A COUPLE OF MONTHS AFTER PURCHASE, THE DEALERSHIP GAVE ME A TSB PRINTOUT RECOMMENDING I KEEP A QUART OF OIL ON HAND. SINCE THEN EVERY OIL CHANGE I HAVE BEEN LOW AND I'VE ADDED ABOUT ONE QUART PER THOUSAND MILES LIKE THE TSB INDICATES BUT IT IS STARTING TO CONSUME IT WORSE. WHEN I PICKED UP THE VEHICLE ON FRIDAY, MAY 31, I WAS TOLD THAT IT HAD BEEN EXTREMELY LOW ON OIL, AND THAT I WOULD NEED TO BRING IT IN EVERY 1000 MILES TO HAVE THEM CHECK TO SEE IF THE ENGINE WAS USING TOO MUCH OIL. THEY SAID THIS COULD BE THE CAUSE OF THE DYING ISSUE AND THAT THIS HAS BEEN AN ISSUE WITH OTHER CHRYSLER/JEEP VEHICLES. I WAS THEN INFORMED THAT IT COULD POSSIBLY NEED A NEW ENGINE. THE DEALER FIXED THE FUEL PUMP RECALL ON THURSDAY, MAY 30. HOWEVER, AFTER DRIVING IT ON MAY 30, IT DIED RANDOMLY WHILE DRIVING IT ON FOUR SEPARATE OCCASIONS. I IMMEDIATELY RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO JIM HAYES, INC. ON MAY 31 SO THEY COULD FIX THE PROBLEM. ON MONDAY, JUNE 3, I WAS TOLD THAT THE DEALER COULDN'T DUPLICATE THE DYING ISSUE AND THAT THEY WERE UNSURE OF HOW TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. HOWEVER, THAT DID NOT MAKE SENSE BECAUSE THEY TOLD ME ON THE PREVIOUS FRIDAY THAT IT WAS A COMMON PROBLEM AND IT COULD NEED A NEW ENGINE. AFTER READING SEVERAL JEEP FORUMS, I DISCOVERED THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE THAT NEEDS ADDRESSED. I AM DEEPLY CONCERNED THAT I HAVE PURCHASED A CAR FOR MY 16 YEAR OLD THAT IS NOW A SAFETY HAZARD AND I AM AT THE MERCY OF JEEP AND THE DEALER. SO IT CAN'T BE THE WAY I'M DRIVING. I'VE BEEN DRIVING THE SAME THE WHOLE WHILE I'VE HAD THE VEHICLE. THEY HAVE GAVE THE CAR BACK TO ME AND IT'S DOING THE SAME THING EVEN WORSE. . I TOOK THE CAR TO BE LOOKED AT AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE IS A RECALL ON THE VEHICLE THAT I SHOULD LOOK UP. I DID AND THERE WERE THREE RECALLS INVOLVING MY VEHICLE, TWO OF WHICH RELATED DIRECTLY TO THE PROBLEMS I WAS HAVING. I CONTACTED CHRYSLER WHO SAID MY VIN NUMBER WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. I ASKED HOW THAT IS POSSIBLE WHEN EXACTLY WHAT I AM EXPERIENCING IS EXACTLY WHAT THEY LISTED. SHE TOLD ME TO TAKE THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP HAVE THEM CHECK IT OUT AND IF THEY DETERMINED THAT THIS WAS THE PROBLEM THEN THEY WOULD NOT TO CALL AND TELL THEM THAT. I IMMEDIATELY CONTACTED THE DEALER AND SPOKE WITH SERVICE WHO EXPLAINED WHY SHOULD THEY HAVE TO CONTACT CHRYSLER WHEN IT'S NOT THEIR PROBLEM. I SAID SIR, I AM ONLY FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS. HE THEN WENT ON TO EXPLAIN TO ME THAT WELL THEY COULD LOOK AT THE CAR BUT IT WOULD COST ME $230 TO DO A DIAGNOSTIC. I ASKED WHY I WOULD HAVE TO FOR THAT AND HE SAID "HE HAS TO PAY HIS PEOPLE". I MADE AN APPOINT AND TOOK THE CAR. WHEN THEY CALLED THEY WORDED EVERYTHING IN A MANNER THAT WOULD REMOVE ME FROM THE RECALL, HOWEVER THEY THEN PUT "FUEL INJECTION" AT THE BOTTOM. I INQUIRED ABOUT THIS AND WAS TOLD THAT I AM SUPPOSED TO GET MY FUEL INJECTION CLEANED 2 PER YEAR. I INFORMED THEM I NEVER HEARD OF SUCH A THING. HE ALSO TOLD ME IT WOULD CLOSE TO $500 TO GET MY SEATBELF FIXED "THAT IS NOT EVEN BROKEN" AND NEVER DID ANYTHING ABOUT THE INDICATOR LIGHTS. I WAS TOLD THAT THEY NEEDED TO PUT MY CAR "BACK TOGETHER" WHICH I ALSO DID NOT UNDERSTAND BECAUSE I THOUGHT A DIAGNOSTIC DID NOT REQUIRE THAT. NOW MY ENGINE LIGHT IS ALSO ON AND NOBODY WILL RETURN MY CALLS.

ALSO, THE ENGINE LEAKED OIL AND THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL SEIZED MORE THAN ONCE. WHILLE DRIVING THE VEHICLE ON A CITY STREET AND MAKING A RIGHT TURN AND DESCENDING A SMALL HILL THE VEHICLE "SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT" ILLUMINATES, CHIMES AND THE VEHICLE TRANSMISSION LOCKS INTO A RANDOM GEAR (TYPICALLY 3 OR 5TH GEAR) AND REMAINS IN THIS GEAR. IT HAPPENS OVER HALF OF THE TIME AND RESULTS IN A VERY UNSAFE DRIVING CONDITION AS THE VEHICLE IS UNABLE TO ACCELERATE PROPERLY OR MAINTAIN ADEQUATE SPEED DEPENDING ON THE GEAR IN WHICH IT IS STUCK. THE VEHICLE HAS TO DODGE TRAFFIC AND PULL OVER IN A SAFE PLACE WHERE THE VEHICLE CAN BE SHUT OFF AND RESTARTED, WHICH IN MOST CASES WILL RESET THE TRANSMISSION AND ALLOW IT TO FUNCTION CLOSER TO NORMAL. FCA IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE DEALER HAVE BEEN ATTEMPTING TO REMEDY THIS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION FOR 6 MONTHS. THEY HAVE REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE, THE TRANSMISSION, THE EVAP CANISTER AND THE FUEL PUMP. FCA AND THE DEALER ARE STATING THIS IS "NORMAL" FUNCTION AND THAT THE TURN OR THE HILL MUST BE EXTREME OPERATION. THIS IS HAPPENING AT A SLOW SPEED TURN OF 10-15 MPH. WHEN I GOT TO THE CURB, THE LIGHTS NEXT TO THE SHIFTER (PRND) WERE FLASHING UNTIL I PUT IT IN PARK. I SHUT THE CAR OFF, AND WHEN IT CAME BACK ON, ONLY THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED. I PHONED JEEP, AND THEY WERE GOING TO HAVE IT TOWED TO A DEALERSHIP, BUT NONE WERE OPEN, SO I HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL THE MORNING, AND HAD TO LEAVE MY CAR ON THE STREET, BECAUSE IF I WENT MORE THAN 10 FEET, THE POWER WOULD GO OUT AGAIN AND WOULD LOSE ACCELERATION. THERE HAVE BEEN ISSUES WITH TRANSMISSION JAMMING INTO GEAR WHEN SLOWING TO A STOP AT A RED LIGHT, AND THEN ACCELERATING WHEN IT TURNS GREEN, AND RANDOMLY IDLING ROUGH. THE ENGINE CODE IS U0001. 2017 JEEP RENEGADE WITH 42,000 MILES HAS FAULTY IGNITION COILS, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO MISFIRE, AND STALL WHILE DRIVING. AFTER OUR JEEP RENEGADE STARTED RUNNING ROUGH AND MISFIRING, I STARTED RESEARCHING POSSIBLE ISSUES. SHORTLY AFTER THIS THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT INDICATED A PROBLEM, WHICH DISABLED THE 4 WHEEL DRIVE IN THE VEHICLE DURING A SNOWSTORM HERE. UPON PULLING THE CEL CODE, WE FOUND A MISFIRE IN CYLINDER 2 AND REPLACED THE SPARK PLUGS AS THIS IS A TYPICAL SOLUTION TO MINOR IGNITION ISSUES. UPON REPLACEMENT, I NOTICED ONE PLUG WAS BADLY FOULED AND CORRODED WITH ANOTHER HAVING SLIGHT FOULING. AFTER REPLACEMENT OF THE SPARK PLUGS, THE VEHICLE ACTED OK FOR ABOUT AN HOUR THEN STARTED MISFIRING AGAIN. WE SWAPPED THE 2 AND 4 COIL WITH EACH OTHER RESULTING IN THE MISFIRE MOVING TO CYLINDER 4. THIS LEXUS TO REPLACE THE IGNITION COILS SOLVING THE ISSUE. THIS VEHICLE HAS LESS THAN 50,000 MILES ON IT, AND UPON FURTHER RESEARCH WE ARE FINDING THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE RENEGADE IGNITION COILS FAILING PREMATURELY CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO MISFIRE AND STALL. THIS IS A POTENTIAL LIFE THREATENING ISSUE BECAUSE IF THE VEHICLE STALLS WHILE DRIVING COULD VERY LIKELY CAUSE ACCIDENTS. ADDITIONALLY THE FAILURE OF THE 4WD WITH ACEL PUTS THE DRIVER AT FURTHER RISK OF BEING STUCK OR CAUSING A WRECK WHEN THE VEHICLE DOES NOT PERFORM AS EXPECTED.

HOWEVER, NO WARNINGS, NO INDICATOR LIGHTS, JUST A SHUTOFF OF THE POWER TO VEHICLE UPON SLOWING TO STOP AND/OR RE-ACCELERATE. A ERROR CAME ON STATING TO SERVICE TRANSMISSION. TOOK TO A DEALERSHIP THAT SAID IT WAS NEEDING AN UPDATE WITH THE COMPUTER. WENT 340 MORE MILES THE NEXT DAY AND IT DONE THE EXACT SAME THING. LOST ALL POWER STEERING. NO WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON. GOT TOWED AND THEY TOLD ME NO CODES CAME UP WHILE PLUGGED INTO THE COMPUTER. WAS THEN TOLD IT WAS THE FUEL PUMP AND WOULD BE A TWO WEEK WAIT. WAS TOLD IT'S BEEN A VERY COMMON THING WITH THE 2017 RENEGADES SO THEY'RE BACK ORDERED. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT THE DEALERSHIP THE DAY BEFORE BYPASSED SOMETHING TO SEND ME ON MY WAY. CALLED CHRYSLER AND THEY AREN'T HELPING AT ALL. AND I'M STILL 480 MILES FROM MY HOME. THERE SHOULD DEFINITELY BE A RECALL ON THEM. IT WILL END UP GETTING SOMEONE KILLED.

THE VEHICLE TRANSMISSION WAS STUCK IN NEUTRAL AND COULD NOT BE SHIFTED TO ANY OTHER POSITION. THIS OCCURRED AFTER BACKING THE VEHICLE UP A FEW FEET AND THEN TRYING TO SHIFT FROM REVERSE INTO DRIVE. THERE IS NO KNOWN PROCEDURE FOR SHUTTING OFF THE ENGINE WITH THE SHIFTER IN ANY POSITION OTHER THAN PARK. BECAUSE OF THIS, THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE MOVED AND THE ENGINE COULD NOT BE SHUT OFF. THE ONLY GOOD PART OF THIS WAS THAT IT WAS IN NEUTRAL - I CAN'T IMAGINE WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED OF THE TRANSMISSION HAD GOTTEN STUCK IN REVERSE OR DRIVE.

DEALERSHIP INSTALLED NEW ENGINE NO START SO CHECKED FOR OIL PRESSURE AND FOUND 25 PSI WHILE CRANKING. REPLACED VVAA ASSEMBLY ENGINE WILL STILL NOT START. FINDING: CRANKSHAFT HAS SEVERE END PLAY AND WAS EATEN AWAY AT THE BLOCK. SUSPECTED: MAIN BEARING TO BE LEFT LOOSE FROM FACTORY. VEHICLE KEPT AT DEALERSHIP SINCE MARCH 7TH UNTIL MAY 3RD 2018.

FIRST SERVICE VISIT I WAS TOLD IT WAS JUST IN NEED OF A COMPUTER REST. SECOND VISIT THEY SAID THEY FOUND NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. THIRD VISIT THEY INITIALLY SAID IT NEEDED A SOFTWARE UPGRADE UNTIL I INSISTED IT WAS SERIOUS AND CONTACTED CORPORATE. NOT ONLY WAS I TREATED POORLY BUT I WAS BLOCKED FROM LEAVING A REVIEW. IT WAS MENTIONED THAT ENGINEERS CURRENTLY KNOW THERE IS AN ISSUE BUT ARE WAITING UNTIL SECOND QUARTER TO PUBLISH IT. I BELIEVE THIS IS EXTREMELY NEGLIGENT BECAUSE IT ISN'T JUST A FAULTY SENSOR LIGHT, THE ENTIRE VEHICLE NEARLY DIES WHILE DRIVING ON A FREEWAY, CREATING A RISK FOR A FATAL ACCIDENT. I DEMANDED RECORDS OF ALL THAT HAS BEEN DONE TO THIS BRAND NEW AUTO, SINCE ISSUES FIRST AROSE ON 12/9/1027. FROM 12/9/2017-3/38/2018, I HAVE HAD MY CAR AT THE SERVICE CENTER THREE TIMES. AND I JUST FOUND THE SAFETY RECALL ONLINE, I HAVE NOT BEEN NOTIFIED BY JEEP OR THE DEALERSHIP YET AS TO THIS RECALL PERTAINING TO FAULTY SENSOR ALERTS. I AM UNABLE TO SELECT FROM THE ABOVE LIST BUT "WHEELS' AND "ELEC STABILITY CONTROL" WERE ALSO AFFECTED.

FROM THE FORUMS THERE ARE SEVERAL OTHER OWNERS EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE AND THE DEALERSHIPS ARE CLAIMING THE CONSUMPTION AND STALLING ARE NORMAL. THE ENGINE USES/LOSES APPROXIMATELY 1 QUART OF OIL EVERY 300 - 500 MILES OF DAILY DRIVING. MY DAILY DRIVING IS BOTH CITY AND HIGHWAY. THE JEEP HAS BEEN AT THE DEALERSHIP MULTIPLE TIMES (4 IN 6 MONTHS) TO INVESTIGATE AND CORRECT THIS LOSS OF OIL. ACCORDING TO THE OWNER'S MANUAL THE OIL CHANGES CAN LAST AS LONG AS 10,000 MILES. THIS JEEP RENEGADE AVERAGES AN OIL CHANGE EVERY 2,000 TO 2,500 MILES DUE TO THIS OIL ISSUE. THERE ARE "NO" EXTERNAL OIL LEAKS VISIBLE NOR ON THE DRIVEWAY THEREFORE THE OIL MUST BE LEAKING INTERNALLY INTO "SOMETHING". THE DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN GREAT SERVICING THE VEHICLE BUT HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THE LAST INFORMATION PROVIDED BY THE DEALERSHIP WAS THIS JEEP'S ENGINE IS EXPECTED TO LOSE 1 QUART OF OIL PER 2000 MILES AND RECOMMENDED TO CHANGE THE ENGINE OIL EVERY 2,500 MILES. THIS IS A NEW VEHICLE THAT HAS AN ENGINE PROBLEMS THAT IS UNRESOLVED AND DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. NEVER KNOWING WHEN THE CATASTROPHIC FAILURE WILL OCCUR. I ORIGINALLY TOOK THIS JEEP TO THE QUINN JEEP/CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP IN GLOUCESTER VA BUT WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE MANAGER THAT BECAUSE THIS JEEP WAS NOT PURCHASED FROM QUINN THAT QUINN WOULD NOT PERFORM (ANY) SERVICE ON THIS VEHICLE. THERE WAS AN ACTUAL "NOTE" ADDED IN THE DATABASE TO NOT SERVICE THIS VEHICLE.

AFTER FILLING GAS TANK, I TRIED TO START CAR AND IT TOOK A COUPLE OF TRIES TO GET IT TO CRANK OVER. ONCE IT STARTED, THE CAR WAS MAKING AN INTENSE KNOCKING NOISE AND SPUTTERING SO VIOLENTLY IT ACTUALLY CAUSED THE WHOLE CAR TO ROCK. AFTER A FEW MINUTES IT SETTLED DOWN AND I PULLED ONTO THE STREET AND THE CAR JUST DIED... NO LIGHT INDICATORS AT ALL AND THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LOOKED AS IF THE CAR WAS TURNED OFF. AGAIN IT TOOK A COUPLE OF TRIES, BUT THE CAR FINALLY STARTED AND BEGAN KNOCKING AND SPUTTERING ABOUT, THEN SETTLED DOWN. I ENTERED THE FREEWAY ONRAMP AND NOTICED WHEN I LET MY FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR, THE CAR WOULD ESSENTIALLY DIE WHILE GOING 60 MILES AN HOUR. I GOT OFF THE FREEWAY AND BY THE TIME I STOPPED ON THE OFFRAMP, THE CAR HAD DIED AGAIN. I HAD TO PUT ON MY HAZARD LIGHTS FOR ABOUT 3 MINUTES UNTIL THE CAR STARTED AGAIN. I DROVE TO A PARKING LOT AND PRESSED THE ONBOARD BUTTON FOR ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE. THEY CAME AND TOWED THE CAR TO THE DEALER. THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE WAS 67 DEGREES AND THERE WAS A SLIGHT RAIN SPRINKLE. BEFORE I GOT GAS, THE CAR WAS FINE. I HAD 1/4 OF A TANK AND THE GAS LIGHT HAD JUST COME ON. I HAD NEVER USED VALERO GAS BEFORE AND FOR SOME REASON IT TOOK 13.5 GALLONS TO FILL THE TANK THAT ALREADY HAD A 1/4 OF A TANK IN IT. IN THE PAST THE MOST I HAVE FUELED UP WHILE ON LESS THAN 1/8 OF A TANK WAS 11.8. I'M NOT SURE THE FUEL SITUATION MATTERS, BUT I THOUGHT I WOULD MENTION IT JUST IN CASE. THIS ISSUE WAS REALLY SCARY AND UNNERVING. THE CAR HAS 4500 MILES ON IT.
