ISSUES STARTED WITH VEHICLE NOT ABLE TO START AND INABILITY TO SHIFT OUT OF PARK. BATTERY WOULD TEST GOOD. AFTER DISCONNECTING BATTERY, VEHICLE WOULD START AS USUALLY. ISSUE BEGAN TO ESCALATE WITH OIL LIGHT AND ESP LIGHT RANDOMLY LIGHTING UP ON THE DASH. FINALLY, ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL AND ESP LIGHT WOULD COME ON WHILE DRIVING AND ACCELERATOR WAS UNRESPONSIVE WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY. I HAVE REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY AND THE ENTIRE WIRING HARNESS WITH NO RESOLUTION. I AM NOW REPLACING THE COMPUTER IN HOPES THAT IT WILL RESOLVE THE ISSUES. I HAVE HAD THE JEEP IN FOR AUTO SERVICE 5 TIMES SINCE JANUARY.

ELECTRICAL PROBLEM CAUSING STARTING PROBLEMS, ISSUES WITH WINDSHIELD WIPERS AND NO LIGHTS ON DASH OR HEADLIGHTS/BREAK LIGHTS. AT TIMES WHILE DRIVING ALL LIGHTS ON DASHBOARD WILL TURN OFF AND WINDSHIELD WIPERS GO ON ON THEIR OWN. THE HEADLIGHTS AND BREAK LIGHTS WILL ALSO NOT WORK. THE INTERIOR LIGHTS AND RADIO WILL STILL FUNCTION. DEALERSHIP COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM OR SOLUTION.

JEEP HAS MAJOR ELECTRICAL ISSUES. JEEPS TIPM MODULE HAS CAUSED THE JEEP TO DIE WHILE DRIVING, EXPERIENCE LACKING POWER, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO GO OFF AND SEEMS TO BRAKE ITSELF. I REPLACED ITNLESS THAN A YEAR AGO AND NOW THE DEALERSHIP IS SAYING IT IS GOING OUT AGAIN. ALSO HAVING PROBLEMS WITH PCM AND PART IS ON NATIONAL BACKORDER.

RANDOMLY THE JEEP WILL COMPLETELY GO CRAZY. THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS WITH FLUID RUN, BLINKERS, HORN, AND ----> THE ENGINE SHUTS OFF WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED. I LOSE POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES AT THE SAME TIME. THIS IS SERIOUSLY DANGEROUS. I CALLED THE LOCAL JEEP DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME TO CALL CHRYSLER. I DID SOME RESEARCH IN JEEP FORUMS ONLINE AND FOUND THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE JEEP WRANGLERS FROM 2007 FORWARD. JEEP HAS A RECALL FOR THE MOST RECENT MODELS, BUT NO RECALL FOR THE PREVIOUS YEARS TO INCLUDE MINE. I'M REALLY CONFUSED HOW THIS HAPPENS TO SO MANY JEEP WRANGLERS AROUND MY YEAR, BUT THERE ARE NO RECALLS. THIS IS A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY ISSUE FOR THE VEHICLE OCCUPANTS AND DEFINITELY FOR OTHER VEHICLES AROUND.

DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AT 40 MPH WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN COMPLETE POWER LOSS INCLUDING BRAKES, STEERING, ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. HORN STARTED CONSTANTLY GOING, FRONT AND REAR WIPERS GOING. TURNED KEY OFF AND REMOVED, BUT EVERYTHING WAS STILL GOING LIKE A POSSESSED CAR. HAD TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY TO GET EVERYTHING TO SHUT OFF. MECHANIC HAS TOLD ME IT IS LIKELY A FAILURE OF THE CAR'S TIPM, WHICH SEEMS TO BE A PERSISTENT PROBLEM WITH JEEPS AND OTHER CHRYSLER VEHICLES. CALLED FCA AND THEY WON'T STSAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT, SAYING IT'S NOT ASN ISSUE.

EITHER THE BATTERY NEEDS TO BE DISCONNECTED OR THE FUSE BOX UNDER THE HOOD NEEDS TO BE JIGGLED BEFORE IT WOULD STOP. SCHEDULED TO GO IN THE SHOP FRIDAY FOR THE REPAIR. ODDLY ENOUGH THE DEALERSHIP HAS NEVER HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM. THIS WILL CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT OR WORSE IF THIS ISSUE IS NOT RESOLVED.

TIPM- DOOR LOCKS SHORTED OUT, FUEL PUMP QUITS STRANDING THE VEHICLE ON THE STREET, WILL NOT RESTART WITHOUT PULLING AND RESETTING THE IOD FUSE, CAUSES AIRBAG LIGHT TO FLASH FAULT, REAR WIPER QUITS. THIS MAKES THE VEHICLE UNSAFE OR UNABLE TO BE USED. VEHICLE WAS BOUGHT NEW AND WOULDN'T THINK MUCH ABOUT THIS IF THROUGH RESEARCH I HAD NOT FOUND HOW MANY FAILURES EXPERIENCED BY MANY HAVE BEEN RELATED TO THIS PARTS FAILURE RATE. PARKED THE VEHICLE AND WHEN WENT TO RESTART IT IT WOULD NOT RESART, THEN THE DOORS STARTED LOCKING AND UNLOCKING REPEATEDLY LOCKING ME OUT OF THE VEHICLE WITH THE KEYS IN IT. I RESET THE IOD FUSE AND IT STARTED. THEN GOING DOWN THE HIGHWAY THE WARNING LIGHTS IN THE DASH STARTED FLASHING, AIRBAG, TCS, ANTI THEFT, TIRE PRESSURE, ABS, STABILITY CONTROL ALL CAME ON THEN VEHICLE SHUT OFF. IT WOULD START THEN RUN FOR A FEW SECONDS AND DIE. THROUGH RESEARCH I FOUND THIS TO BE RELATED TO THE ANTI THEFT IN THE TIPM-. TRIED REPLACING THE DOOR LOCK FUSE AND IT STARTED ARCING AND SMOKING. VEHICLE IS PARKED NOW WITH A TIPM- ON ORDER. AS STATED PREVIOUSLY, I BOUGHT THIS JEEP NEW AND IF IT WAS NOT SUCH A WIDESPREAD ISSUE WITH CHRYSLER PRODUCTS I WOUL NOT THINK MUCH ABOUT A PART FAILURE AT TEN YEARS.

MY 2008 JEEP WRANGLER UNLIMITED HAS BEGUN EXHIBITING VERY STRANGE BEHAVIOR: 1) THE FRONT WINDSHIELD WIPER SPRAY DOES NOT WORK. THE REAR WIPER SPRAY WORKS FINE. VERY UNUSUAL SINCE BOTH FRONT AND REAR SPRAY USES THE SAME PUMP. THUS POSES A SAFETY ISSUE. 2) THE DOOR LOCKS NO LONGER LOCK WHEN THE LOCK BUTTON IS PRESSED ON THE KEY FOB. THIS IS TRUE FOR EITHER FOB, AND YES, I HAVE CHANGED THE BATTERIES. 3) THE CAR SOMETIMES DOES NOT START. THE ENGINE DOES NOT CRANK. THIS HAPPENS AT RANDOM, AND CAN SOMETIMES BE RESOLVED BY REMOVING THE KEYS FROM THE IGNITION, RE-INSERTING THEM AND TRYING AGAIN. SOMETIMES 5 OR MORE ATTEMPTS ARE REQUIRED TO GET THE CAR TO START. IN MY RESEARCH, ALL OF THESE SYMPTOMS POINT TO A FAULTY TIPM MODULE.
AS THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELLING AT NIGHT ON A TWO-LANE COUNTRY ROAD AT 35 MPH, THE ELECTRICAL POWER OF THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF, INCLUDING HEADLIGHTS, RADIO, INTERIOR POWER, VENTILATION, AND ENGINE. THE DURATION OF THE OUTAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 10 SECONDS. THIS POWER OUTAGE OCCURRED JUST PRIOR TO A CURVE AND CAUSED LOSS OF VISION AND ABS BRAKING, CAUSING A SKID AND NARROWLY MISSED COLLIDING WITH A GUARDRAIL. THE POWER THEN CAME BACK ON, AND ALL SYSTEMS APPEARED TO RETURN TO NORMAL. THERE APPEARS TO BE A POWER DISTRIBUTION PROBLEM THAT AFFECTED THE OPERABILITY OF THE VEHICLE, CREATING A HAZARDOUS CONDITION. BATTERY AND ALTERNATOR CHECK OUT OK, SO A POWER SUPPLY PROBLEM IS NOT A ROOT CAUSE OF THE ISSUE.

HAD IT TOWED TO THE SAME LOCAL JEEP DEALER THAT I BOUGHT IT FROM AND THEY CHECKED IT OUT. IT TURNED OUT TO BE A FAULTY TIPM. THEY REPLACED THE FAULTY TIPM AND NOW TWO YEARS LATER IT IS DOING THE SAME THING.

TOTALLY INTEGRATED POWER MODULE (TIPM) ITEM HAS FAILED , CAUSING ME TO REPLACE OTHER PARTS DIAGNOSED BY PCM AS BEING FAULTY, BUT REPLACING THOSE PARTS RESULTED IN SAME ERROR CODES. ACTUAL FAULT FOUND TO BE A FAILING TIPM. I HAVE CONSTANT ERROR CODES, RANDOM HORN, OR LACK OF HORN, RANDOM ACTUATING OF STABILITY CONTROL CAUSING ONE CORNER OF JEEP TO BRAKE SUDDENLY AND GIVING THE STABILITY CONTROL WARNING LIGHT. RANDOM POWER AND FUEL ECONOMY PROBLEMS. SPENT +$600 IN PARTS THAT DID NOT FIX WHAT JEEP SAID WAS PROBLEM, WHEN PROBLEM IS TIPM GIVING THE PROBLEM. JUST WAITING TO SEE IF BURSTS INTO FLAMES, AS HAVE SMELLED HOT WIRES COMING FROM IT RECENTLY. THIS HAS OCCURRED WHILE STATIONARY AND IN WHILE MOTION.

RADIO DID WORK ALONG WITH HEADLIGHTS. STARTER WOULD NOT CLICK OR ENGAGE, IT WAS JUST DEAD. TOWED TO DEALERSHIP. TIPM REPLACED TWICE PREVIOUSLY 5 MONTHS AND 9 MONTHS EARLIER. NOW AT DEALERSHIP, BATTERY REHOOKED UP, EVERYTHING IS FINE.

THIS SHOULD DEFINITELY BE A RECALLED ISSUE BASED ON THE 2007 JEEP WRANGLER HAVING THE SAME ISSUE...FOR ALL I KNOW THE 2008 JEEPS WERE PROBABLY INTALLED PARTS FROM THE LINE FROM THE 2007 JEEP WRANGLERS WHICH HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE TICM......I AM TRYING TO GET ESTIMATES RIGHT NOW BUT THE TCIM PART ALONE COSTS $425 OR MRE PLUS LABOR AND ADDITIONAL FOR PROGRAMMING......THIS IS RIDICULOUS!!!!! JUMPED OUT TO PULL THE HORN WIRE, I WAS IN A RESIDENTIAL AREA AT 5 A.M. WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN ENGINE STARTED BACK UP, WITH THE KEYS IN MY POCKET! EVERYTHING FINALLY STOP RUNNING AND I WENT ON TO MY JOB RELUCTANTLY. NOW SPORADICALLY THE WIPERS GO ON, DOORS WON'T UNLOCK, ENGINE WON'T START, HORN BLARES, WASHER FLUID GOES ON ALL BY THERE SELF. THIS IS MY ONLY CAR TO DRIVE, I'M GOING TO AN INDEPENDENT DEALER TO GET IT HOOKED UP TO SCAN THE COMPUTER, AND HOPEFULLY FIND THE PROBLEM.

INITIALLY, IT SEEMED TO OCCUR SPORADICALLY NORMALLY AFTER IT RAINED . NOW, THE PROBLEM OCCURS MORE FREQUENTLY (DAILY) ABSENT ANY RAIN. I'VE REPLACED THE BATTERY, ALTERNATOR AND STARTER TO NO AVAIL. I ALSO TOOK THE CAR TO A JEEP DEALER TO NO AVAIL .

THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE BY JEEP BUT THEY HAVE CHOSEN TO ONLY PURSUE RIGHT HAND DRIVE RHD JEEPS EVEN THOUGH MANY COMPLAINTS HAVE BEEN ISSUED BY LEFT HAND DRIVE LHD JEEP OWNERS AS WELL. JEEP ADMITTED THE ORIGINAL CLOCK SPRINGS WERE FAILING AND SAID THEY WERE WORKING ON A NEW ONE. I CALLED JEEP YESTERDAY AND WAS TOLD IT WOULD NOT BE COVERED, BUT THAT I SHOULD HANG ON TO MY BILLS IN CASE IT EVER BECOMES COVERED. I ONLY HAVE 30,500 MILES ON MY JEEP. MANY OWNERS HAVE GONE THROUGH THIS AND ONLY A FEW HAVE BEEN TAKEN CARE OF. THIS IS A FACTORY PRODUCT SAFETY ISSUE THAT SHOULD BE COVERED BY JEEP.

HOW CAN I BE SURE THAT THIS "UNKNOWN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM" ISN'T GOING TO GET WORSE, AND BY WORSE, I MEAN AFFECT SOMETHING CRUCIAL TO THE SAFE OPERATION OF MY VEHICLE WHEN I'M DRIVING IT AT FREEWAY SPEEDS? IF THIS VEHICLE HAS SOME ELECTRICAL PROBLEM WHILE I'M DRIVING IT AT FREEWAY SPEEDS, THEN A LOT OF PEOPLE COULD BE SEVERELY INJURED DUE TO THE SIZE OF THIS VEHICLE BECOMING UNCONTROLLABLE. THIS HAS HAPPENED WHILE THE CAR IS STOPPED/IDLING, WHILE IT IS DRIVING, AND NOW, AFTER IT HAD BEEN PARKED FOR SEVERAL DAYS. I HAVE TAKEN IT DIRECTLY TO A JEEP DEALER IMMEDIATELY AFTER BOTH EPISODES. THE FIRST TIME, I HAD TO WAIT SEVERAL HOURS BEFORE THE VEHICLE COULD BE DRIVEN. THE 2ND TIME IT OCCURRED I DROVE IT DIRECTLY TO A JEEP DEALER, AND THEY COULD NOT IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM AFTER SEVERAL DAYS. THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD AT THE VERY LEAST, BE ABLE TO IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM, AND REDESIGN WHICHEVER ELECTRICAL COMPONENT, OR SYSTEM, THAT'S CAUSING THE PROBLEM. I WOULD EVEN BE WILLING TO PURCHASE THE PART AT THE MANUFACTURER'S COST, IF IT GOT RID OF THE PROBLEM.

THE SECURITY SYSTEM ACTIVATED WITHOUT CAUSE. I REMOVED THE KEY, TRIED LOCKING THE DOOR AND UNLOCKING, INSERTING THE KEY IN THE DOOR TO TURN IT OFF. NOTHING WORKED. I TO HAD TO PULL THE FUSE FOR THE LIGHTS AND HORN SO MY NEIGHBORS COULD GET SOME SLEEP. I TOOK ANOTHER VEHICLE TO WORK. IT HAS NOT ACTED UP SINCE. THE WEEK BEFORE THE ALARM SYSTEM ACTIVATING THE LIGHTS WOULD COME ON WITHOUT CAUSE AS WELL. WE WERE SITTING IN THE HOUSE AND THE LIGHTS WOULD GO AND OFF FOR NO REASON. WE TOOK THE BATTERIES OUT OF THE KEY THINKING IT WAS THE BATTERIES GOING BAD. THIS DID NOT FIX THE INTERMITTENT LIGHTS ISSUE. I HAD THE TIPM REPLACED JULY 2015 BECAUSE THE HEADLIGHTS STAYED ON ALL THE TIME THEN WOULD FLASH FROM TIME TO TIME. THE WIPERS WOULD GO ON AND OFF ON THEIR OWN. THE HORN BLARED WHEN IT FELT LIKE IT. ALL THESE SYMPTOMS HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING. THE JEEP DEALERSHIP RAN A DIAGNOSTIC AND SAID THE UNIT WAS BAD. SURELY AN $800 PART WITHOUT LABOR IS SUPPOSE TO LAST MORE THAN 5 MONTHS!!!!

ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS THE CAR DECIDED IT WAS TIME TO BLARE THE HORN NON STOP AS WELL AS FLASH LIGHTS AND UTILIZE ITS WINDSHIELD WHIPPERS AND FLUID. TODAY, 11/20/215, WAS THE LONGEST AND MOST FRUSTRATING EPISODE. USUALLY THE HORN WOULD START BUT THEN SUBSIDE AFTER 20-30 SECONDS. THIS WAS NOT THE CASE AND AT 5AM THE HORN, LIGHTS, AND WHIPPERS STARTED GOING OFF AND DIDN'T STOP UNTIL I HAD TO PULL THE FUSES FOR THE HORN. AFTER THAT EVERYTHING STOPPED AND I ONLY HAD TO REMOVE THE TWO HORN FUSES. I ALSO WANT TO ADD THAT THE HEATER DID NOT WORK UNTIL AFTER THIS ENTIRE EPISODE AS I WAS IN FACT DRIVING WHILE THIS ALL OCCURRED. IN ADDITION TO THIS ISSUE I HAVE EXPERIENCED GAS SPIT BACK ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS WHILE FILLING UP. I HAVE RESEARCHED BOTH ISSUES AND IT SEEMS AS THESE ARE BOTH RELATED TO A DEFECTIVE TIMP. THIS MORNING I OPENED THE UNLOCKED FRONT PASSENGER DOOR AND THE CRAZINESS BEGAN - DOORS LOCKED ON THEIR OWN, HORN STARTED BLARING, HEADLIGHTS TAILIGHTS AND HAZARDS STARTED FLASHING, FRONT AND BACK WINDSHIELD WIPERS STARTED GOING, WINDSHIELD WASHER FLUID STARTED SHOOTING OUT. I ATTEMPTED TO USE THE REMOTE TO UNLOCK THE DOORS - NOTHING HAPPENED. USED THE KEY TO MANUALLY UNLOCK THE DOOR - AGAINST THE SYSTEM TRYING TO RELOCK. THEN CRANKED THE ENGINE TO TRY AND GET EVERYTHING TO STOP. IT DID NOT STOP. I TURNED OFF THE JEEP THEN POPPED THE HOOD AND DISCONNECTED THE NEGATIVE TERMINAL. ALL THE CRAZINESS STOPPED. I WAITED @5 MINUTES AND THEN RECONNECTED THE BATTERY. ALL THE CRAZINESS STARTED AGAIN. SO I PULLED THE NEGATIVE AND THE POSITIVE FROM THE TERMINAL HOPING TO RESET THE SYSTEM. I HAVE NOT RECONNECTED THE SYSTEM TO TRY AGAIN. I AM WORRIED THAT EVEN IF THE CRAZINESS DOESN'T START ONCE I RECONNECT THE BATTERY, IF I AM DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND IT BEGINS IT MAY CAUSE ME TO WRECK. I WILL SEND A FOLLOW-UP EMAIL. THANKS.
WHEN TURNING ON THE VEHICLE THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND HAS REMAINED ILLUMINATED SINCE. THE LIGHT INTERMITTENTLY GOES OUT WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL IS AT OR NEAR FULL DEFLECTION IN EITHER DIRECTION. BASED ON MY RESEARCH IT IS LIKELY A FAULTY CLOCK SPRING, WHICH HAS BEEN RECALLED IN THE 2007 MODEL BUT NOT 2008, DESPITE IT BEING AN IDENTICAL PART INSTALLED IN A NEARLY IDENTICAL VEHICLE. THIS INDICATION IS A DIRECT ISSUE OF SAFETY AS IT SHOWS THERE COULD BE A FAILURE OF THE AIRBAG TO DEPLOY IN AN ACCIDENT.

2008 JEEP WRANGLER UNLIMITED SAHARA HAS HAD ELECTRICAL AND ENGINE ISSUES INCLUDING STALLING OUT ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS AS WELL AS NOT STARTING. I HAVE HAD THE BATTERY CHANGED MULTIPLE TIMES AND HAVE HAD ISSUES SUCH AS ALL THE LIGHTS, BUTTONS, ALERT/WARNING LIGHTS GOING OFF SIMULTANEOUSLY FOLLOWED BY COMPLETE ENGINE AND ELECTRICAL SHUT-OFF REQUIRING TOW-SERVICE TO DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE BATTERY AND SAID EVERYTHING WAS FINE. AFTER THAT I HAVE HAD MULTIPLE STALLS AND NON-STARTS AND THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN SAYS I NEED A NEW BATTERY. I HAVE HAD THREE BATTERIES IN THREE YEARS. THE HORN HAS STOPPED WORKING AROUND 50,000 MILES. THE FIRST TIME I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY SAID THEY NEEDED TO REPLACE MY STEERING WHEEL AND COMPLETE STEERING COLUMN. I DECIDED I COULD LIVE WITHOUT A HORN FOR A SHORT WHILE. THE NEXT TIME I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY REPORTED THAT I NEED A NEW CLOCKSPRING WHICH ALSO CONTROLS MY AIRBAGS WHICH "MIGHT OR MIGHT NOT STILL BE FUNCTIONAL." SEEING AS I HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH THE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS BEFORE, INCLUDING MALFUNCTIONS IN THE ALERT/WARNING LIGHTS, THE DEALERSHIP COULD NOT TELL FOR SURE IF MY AIRBAGS WORK OR NOT. THE LOCKS TO MY JEEP HAVE STOPPED WORKING FROM BOTH THE INSIDE DOOR SWITCH AND THE KEY FOB. THE DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSED THIS AS A "TOTAL INTEGRATED POWER MODULE" (TIPM) MALFUNCTION RESULTING IN LOSS OF ELECTRICAL POWER. THEY EXPLAINED THAT THERE IS A BACK-ORDER ON TIPM PIECES NATIONWIDE AND THEY DO NOT KNOW WHEN I COULD GET MINE REPLACED. WHEN ASKED HOW THE TIPM COULD BREAK, THE DEALERSHIP SAID THERE WAS NO ONE WAY AND THAT IT "JUST HAPPENS." MY DOORS CURRENTLY ONLY LOCK/UNLOCK BY HAND, AND SOMETIMES WHEN I LOCK THEM BY HAND AND RETURN TO MY JEEP, THE DOORS ARE UNLOCKED. FURTHERMORE, THE AUTOMATIC SECURITY LOCK FEATURE WHEN THE VEHICLE STARTS MOVING DOES NOT WORK EITHER.

AGAIN I WAS TOLD THAT THEY REALLY COULDN'T DIAGNOSE BECAUSE NOTHING WAS HAPPENING AT THAT POINT. LAST NIGHT MY JEEP BEGAN SHAKING VIOLENTLY AND SCARED ME AS I COULD NOT REGAIN CONTROL. I HAD TO SLOW AND PULL OVER SO IT COULD STOP. MY HUSBAND CAME TO GET ME AND WAS FOLLOWING ME WHEN IN ADDITION TO THE PAST THINGS HAPPENING (I CALL IT POSSESSED), THE WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON; BRAKE, ENGINE, ABS, BATTERY, ETC. IT THEN STALLED AS I WAS TURNING. LUCKILY THE WOMAN COMING THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION SLOWED AND WENT AROUND OTHERWISE I WOULD HAVE BEEN HIT. MY HUSBAND TOWED THE JEEP TO THE DEALERSHIP AND LEFT IT THERE, AND TOLD THEM TO FIX IT AS IT IS A REAL ROAD HAZARD. IN READING ABOUT JEEP COMPLAINTS, I'M ASSUMING IT IS A "TIPM" PROBLEM AND SOMETHING CALLED A "DEATH WOBBLE". I AM ABSOLUTELY SHOCKED THAT THIS HASN'T BEEN RECALLED.

I RETURNED THE JEEP TO THE FRED FREDERICK DEALERSHIP AND I WAS TOLD THAT IT IS THE TIPM BUT THE PART IS ON BACK ORDER. AFTER I RECEIVED THE INFORMATION, I DID SOME RESEARCH ON LINE AND FOUND THIS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM BUT NOT JUST FOR THE WRANGLERS BUT FOR A HOST OF CHRYSLER VEHICLES. I HAVE ELEVATED A COMPLAINT TO CHRYSLER TO NO AVAIL. IT IS OBVIOUS THAT THIS ISSUE IS WIDESPREAD AND THE EXPENSE TO CHRYSLER TO SERVICE SO MANY VEHICLES HAS TO BE ASTRONOMICAL. THE TIPM IS PART OF THE FUSE BOX. MINE FIRST FAILED WHILE AT A STOP LIGHT. THE SYMPTOMS OF THE FAILURE IN MY CASE WAS HORN, WASHERS, DOOR LOCKS, WIPERS ALL GOING AT THE SAME TIME. AFTERWARDS THE ENGINE WOULD STALL AND WOULD NOT START. THE ENGINE WOULD CONTINUE TO RUN EVEN AFTER THE KEYS WAS REMOVED. THE CODE WAS U0141 - LOST COMMUNICATION WITH FRONT CONTROL MODULE. I BROUGHT THE CAR INTO THE DEALER AND THEY COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM WITH THEIR DIAGNOSTIC COMPUTER. THE MODULE CONTINUED TO FAIL AND THROUGH MY OWN RESEARCH I DETERMINED THAT IT WAS THE TIPM. WHEN I RETURNED TO THE DEALER, I HAD TO INSIST THAT THEY REPLACE THE TIPM. THEY REMOVED THE TIPM AND CLEANED THE CONTACTS BUT IT NOT HELP. I WAS TOLD THE TIPM WAS BACK-ORDERED AND HAD TO WAIT A MONTH WHILE MY JEEP GATHERED DUST. AFTER A MONTH AND A NUMBER OF CALLS TO THE PARTS DEPARTMENT I WAS TOLD IT WAS FURTHER BACK-ORDERED FOR ANOTHER TWO WEEKS. AT HIS POINT A SEARCHED FOR ONE ON MY OWN. I WAS SURPRISED TO SEE ON THE NEWS TODAY THE CHRYSLER HAS STILL NOT CORRECTED THE BACKORDER ISSUE. THE PLANT THAT PRODUCED THE TIPM'S WAS IN JAPAN AND DAMAGED DURING THE EARTHQUAKE. CAUSED THE PARTS BACKORDER. I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO LOCATE A MODULE MYSELF BY CROSS-REFERENCING VARIOUS VERSIONS. THE TECHNICIAN SAID THAT THERE IS A DESIGN DEFECT WHICH CAUSES A POOR GROUNDING BETWEEN THE BATTERY AND THE STARTER. HE SAID THAT THEY HAD BEEN INSTALLING A NEW GROUNDING STRAP BETWEEN THE BATTERY AND THE STARTER AND THAT IT WAS $177.00 AND NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY EVEN THOUGH IT IS A KNOWN DESIGN DEFECT. UPON GETTING MY JEEP BACK FROM THE SHOP I LOOKED UNDER THE HOOD TO SEE THIS $177.00 GROUNDING CABLE AND IT IS SIMPLY A $10 BATTERY CABLE ATTACHED TO THE NEGATIVE POST ON THE BATTERY AND RUN OVER THE TOP OF THE ENGINE, DOWN ALONG THE FIREWALL, AND ATTACHED SOMEWHERE ON THE BACK SIDE OF THE ENGINE. WHICH THEN IGNITED TO THE ENTIRE VEHICLE. EVERYTHING IN THE VEHICLE WAS DAMAGED. HE LEFT THREE MESSAGES FOR THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER AND HAS NOT RECEIVED ANY RESPONSE. THE SALESMAN REFEREED HIM TO DAIMLER CHRYSLER. WHEN HE SPOKE WITH A CHRYSLER REPRESENTATIVE AND THEY ADVISED TO SEND INFORMATION ABOUT THE EVENT AND LOCATION OF THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER LATER STATED THAT NO KNOWN MANUFACTURERS DEFECTS WHERE FOUND. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 4,200. THE VIN NUMBER AND ENGINE SIZE WERE NOT AVAILABLE. FORTUNATELY, WE WERE ABLE TO PULL OVER AND TURN THE CAR OFF. AFTER CONSULTING THE OWNER'S MANUAL, WE FOLLOWED THE TROUBLESHOOTING INSTRUCTIONS AND THE JEEP STARTED UP FINE. WE DROVE APPROX 10 MILES BEFORE THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED. WE CONTACTED THE JEEP SERVICE DEPARTMENT, AND THEY SAID THAT THEY HAD NEVER HEARD OF THIS. WHEN THE KEY WAS TURNED, WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASH WOULD COME ON, BUT NOTHING ELSE WOULD WORK. I PARKED MY VEHICLE BRIEFLY AND TURNED OFF THE IGNITION. WHEN I RETURNED TO THE VEHICLE WITHIN 2 MINUTES, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START. THE REMOTE LOCK/UNLOCK WOULD NO LONGER WORK. ALL THE LIGHTS AND RADIO WERE FUNCTIONING. THE SECURITY LIGHT WAS ON (RED LIGHT ABOVE THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE). I THEN LOCKED THE VEHICLE USING THE POWER LOCK TOGGLE AND SHUT THE DOOR TO SECURE IT WHILE WAITING FOR HE TOW TRUCK. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER VALET USED THE KEY TO OPEN THE LOCK AND WHEN HE TRIED TO START THE VEHICLE, HE SET OFF THE SECURITY ALARM. THE BATTERY WAS DISCONNECTED TO SILENCE THE ALARM, AND THE VEHICLE WAS SUCCESSFULLY STARTED AFTER THE BATTERY WAS RECONNECTED. DEALER WAS UNABLE TO FIND A PROBLEM. THE ERROR CODES REPORTED TO JEEP WERE: B1A09 - RKE FOB 2 PERFORMANCE U0168 - LOST COMMUNICATION WITH VEHICLE SECURITY CONTROL MODULE (SKREEM/WCM) ODOMETER READING AT FAILURE - 744 KM *TR
