THE VEHICLE WHILE OPERATING UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS HAD A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT APPEAR. A CERTIFIED MECHANIC FOUND THE TCM WAS FAULTY. FINDINGS: P0218 HIGH TEMP OPERATION ACTIVATED. P0714 TRANSMISSION TEMP SENSOR INTERMITTENT. P0613 INTERNAL TCM PROBLEM. INSTRUMENT CLUSTER: 1 TCM/SINGLE BOARD ENGINE CONTROL MESSAGE NOT RECEIVED DATA LIST FOR TCM IS READING 1023 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT OR 1.10 VOLTS HAVING CODE P0613 TCM IS FAULTY.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT WAS AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND STATED THAT THE BATTERY ALMOST FAILED AND THE 02 OXYGEN HEAT SENSOR WAS NOT ABLE TO COMPLETE THE FINAL TEST OF REPROGRAMMING. ALSO, THE ACTION SENSOR HEAT MODULE COULD NOT BE REPROGRAMMED. THE CONTACT CALLED AUBURN CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM (1901 GRASS VALLEY HWY, AUBURN, CA 95603, (888) 268-8026) AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 50,000.

THE PROGRAM CONTROL MODULE (PCM) CONTAINS THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE AND ALL SAFETY FEATURES DESIGNED INTO THESE VEHICLES. IN MY CASE I AM DEVELOPING TRANSMISSION SHIFTING PROBLEMS AS A FIRST SIGN WITH HARD SHIFTS AND INCORRECT TEMPERATURE READING RECORDED FROM THE TRANSMISSION. THE FALSE HIGH READINGS CAN RESULT IN UNEXPECTED ENGINE SHUT DOWN AND OTHER UNSAFE OPERATING CONDITIONS. CHRYSLER IS NO LONGER PROVIDING SUPPORT FOR REPLACEMENT PCM COMPUTERS, DESPITE THIS PROBLEM AFFECTING LARGE NUMBERS OF 2005 AND 2006 VEHICLES WITH THE PCM/TOM COMBINATION WHEN THE SOLDER JOINTS ON THE PCM/TOM CIRCUIT BOARD DEVELOPERS CORROSION AND SOLDER FRACTURES AFFECTING THE COMPUTER PROGRAMMING. MY DEALER CURRENTLY HAS 29 UNITS THAT THEY DO NOT HAVE REPLACEMENTS FOR ON BACK ORDER WITH NO PLANS TO PROVIDE ANY SUPPORT TO CURRENT OWNERS. OWNERS ARE FORCED TO RELY ON A SHADY SECOND MARKET OF POORLY EXPENSIVE REFURBISHED UNITS THAT ARE QUICKLY FAILING. THE NEXT ONLY OPTION IS A COMPLETE ENGINE, TRANSMISSION EMISSIONS CHANGE THAT IS NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE IN CALIFORNIA AND STILL MEET INSPECTION RULES LEAVING A MASS OF JEEP OWNERS WITH NO RECOURSE.

THE ECU HAS FAILED 4 TIMES IN MY JEEP. BY DOING A LITTLE RESEARCH ON A COUPLE OF JEEP PAGES IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR THIS PARTICULAR MODEL. IT HAS BEEN REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY, FOR THE PAST 2 YEARS. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT CHRYSLER WILL NOT REPLACE IT AGAIN. THE PROBLEM THAT IS CAUSED IS THE WAY THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTS FROM 1ST GEAR TO 2ND GEAR . SOMETIMES THE JEEP WILL GO INTO "LIMP MODE". THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON SINCE AUGUST OF 2016, A TOTAL OF 4 ECU'S HAS BEEN INSTALLED.

FOR 5 SECONDS BEFORE HARD SHIFTING BACK INTO GEAR. THE DEALERSHIP CHARGED ME $955 FOR UNRELATED PARTS THAT DID NOT FIX THE ISSUE! BEFORE I MYSELF FOUND IT TO BE THE PCM. THIS PROBLEM NEEDS TO BE RECALLED! BEFORE GOING TO THE DEALERSHIP I TOOK IT TO A TRANSMISSION SHOP WHO CHARGED ME $450 TO REPLACE SOLENOIDS WHICH WAS A FALSE TROUBLE CODE!!! I AM SO LIVID BECAUSE NOW I AM GOING TO HAVE TO BUY A PCM WHICH ARE VERY EXPENSIVE WHEN THEY ARE AVAILABLE TO EVEN ORDER!!!

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. THE HEATER FAN SPEED SWITCH STARTS FAILING BY ONLY WORKING ON HIGH SPEED. THEN IT QUITS COMPLETELY. I HAVE HAD THE WHOLE UNIT REPLACED BEFORE ABOUT 3 YEARS AGO. IT JUST DID EXACTLY THE SAME THING AGAIN AND I HAVE HAD IT REPLACED AGAIN. THIS TIME THE REPLACEMENT UNIT DOESN'T ALLOW ME TO CHANGE THE LOCATION OF WHERE THE HEAT COMES OUT. IT IS STUCK ON THE DEFROSTER.

THE CONTACT OPENED THE PANELING AND NOTICED THAT THE WIRES AND VARIOUS COMPONENTS WERE MELTED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE GROUND WIRING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND FURTHER INSPECTION WAS REQUIRED TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 145,000.

I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM CHRYSLER THAT MY ONBOARD DIAGNOSTIC MONITOR MAY BE DEFECTIVE AND THAT THE WARRANTY HAS BEEN EXTENDED TO LIFETIME. I DID THE TEST AND IT IS ONE OF THE AFFECTED VEHICLES. I TOOK IT TO ERTLEY MOTORWORLD AND WAS TOLD THAT BECAUSE I LIVE IN AN AREA THAT DOESN'T REQUIRE THIS POLLUTION TEST NOW, THE ONLY WAY THEY WOULD FIX IT IS IF I PAY THEM $ 79.95. I SAID WHAT IF THE TEST IS REQUIRED IN THE FUTURE IN MY AREA OR IF I MOVE TO ANOTHER LOCATION THAT REQUIRES IT OR SELL IT TO SOMEONE IN THAT AREA AND IT WON'T BE ALLOWED TO BE LICENSED? JEEP AT TIMES HAS COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN DURING OPERATION EVEN AT HIGHER SPEEDS. IF YOU PULL OVER AND WAIT A MINUTE OR TAP ON THE TIPM THE CAR WILL OPERATE AGAIN. ALSO AT TIMES THE HORN, WIPERS / FLUID, AND ALL LIGHTS COME ON CONSTANTLY WHILE DRIVING. YOU CAN TAKE THE KEY OUT OF THE CAR IT EVEN STAYS ON AND EVERYTHING STAYS ON UNTIL YOU EITHER TAP ON THE TIPM OR DISCONNECT THE BATTER COMPLETELY. FINALLY, AT TIMES WHEN YOU USE THE KEY FOB TO OPEN THE CAR AGAIN EVERYTHING WILL COME ON EVEN THE ENGINE WITHOUT THE KEY IN THE IGNITION. JEEP SUDDENLY LOST ALL POWER AT FREEWAY SPEED. ALMOST GOT CREAMED BY SEMI. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. PULLED OVER ON SHOULDER, RESTARTED ENGINE AND LIMPED HOME UNDER 2500 RPM. ANY HIGHER RPM RESULTED IN COMPLETE POWER LOSS. RAN OBD GOT "INTERMITTENT CAM SENSOR". TRIED TO CHANGE SENSOR BUT ASSEMBLY WAS FULL OF METAL SHAVINGS. DID RESEARCH FOUND OUT THAT THE OIL PUMP DRIVE ASSEMBLY IS FAULTY. PART ON BACK ORDER, NO ONE HAS IT. COMMON PROBLEM WITH 05 MODELS DUE TO FAULTY DESIGN. VERY DANGEROUS AND CAN DESTROY ENGINE.

I TRIED STARTING MY 2006 JEEP WRANGLER ONE MORNING AND WHEN I PUT THE KEY IN THE IGNITION IT JUST ROLLED OVER. I REMOVER THE LOCK CYLINDER AND TOOK IT TO THE PARTS DEPARTMENT AT MY LOCAL JEEP DEALERSHIP. THEY TOLD ME NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH IT. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION THEY FOUND THAT THE PIECE CONNECTING THE KEY CYLINDER TO THE SWITCH HAD SNAPPED SOMEHOW. THEY INFORMED ME THE ONLY WAY TO REPLACE THIS CHEAP LITTLE PIECE WAS TO BUY A NEW $400 STEERING COLUMN ( NOT INCLUDING LABOR )AND THAT THIS IS THE THIRD ONE IN THE LAST MONTH WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. IF THAT DOESN'T WAVE RED FLAGS THEN THEY, JEEP, CERTAINLY HAVE NO CONCERN WITH THE QUALITY OF THEIR PRODUCT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT PARKED THE VEHICLE AND AS HE ATTEMPTED TO SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF, THE IGNITION SWITCH WOULD NOT RESPOND. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS REMOVED BY HIS PERSONAL MECHANIC IN ORDER TO SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH COULD NOT BE REPLACED AS ONE UNIT BUT THE ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN WOULD NEED REPLACING. THE MANUFACTURER WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 90, 0000. UPDATED 02/7/11

WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT 70 MPH THE 2006 JEEP WRANGLER SUDDENLY LOST POWER AND DECELERATED VERY QUICKLY. THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING. THE RPMS DROPPED TO AROUND 1500, PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL DID NOTHING TO INCREASE THE RPMS. I HAD TO PULL OVER OUT OF TRAFFIC. THIS HAPPENED SEVERAL MORE TIMES BEFORE I COULD GET IT TO A JEEP DEALERSHIP IN JULY 2009. JEEP REPLACED ALL THE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS TO INCLUDE THE MAIN COMPUTER AT THE TIME. THEY SAID THAT THEY FOUND A SENSOR THAT WAS BAD. THE REPAIRS LASTED FOR ABOUT 10 MONTH AND THEN IT DID IT AGAIN IN MAY OF 2010. JEEP HAD THE VEHICLE FOR 7 WEEKS TRYING BEFORE THEY GOT IT REPAIRED THE FIRST TIME. THE LAST TIME IT TOOK 2 WEEKS TO REPAIR IT. *TR

ORIGINALLY I THOUGHT IT WAS THE IGNITION SWITCH BUT WHEN I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP TO GET A NEW ONE THE PARTS SALESMAN TOLD ME THAT MY PROBLEM WASN'T WITH THE SWITCH (AND HE WAS RIGHT) THE PROBLEM IS A PIECE OF PLASTIC BETWEEN THE SWITCH AND THE TUMBLER AND THAT THE ONLY WAY TO GET THE PLASTIC PIECE WAS TO BUY THE COMPLETE STEERING COLUMN. IN THAT PHONE CALL HE ALSO INFORMED ME THAT HE KNEW THIS DUE TO THE FACT THEY HAVE HAD SEVERAL PROBLEMS WITH THE WRANGLERS 1997 ON UP AND THE FACTORY HASN'T DONE ANYTHING TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM AND THE ONLY WAY TO GET THIS LITTLE 50 CENT PIECE WAS TO BUY A $500.00 STEERING COLUMN. I FEEL THIS SHOULD BE A RECALLED ITEM DUE TO THE FACT THEY KNOW IT IS A PROBLEM AND I AM AFRAID THAT WHILE I'M DRIVING THE VEHICLE COULD SHUT DOWN SO I AM NOT DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY SO IF IT DOES SHUT DOWN I WONT HAVE AN UNCONTROLLABLE VEHICLE AT HIGH SPEED. *TR

THIS CAN OCCUR SEVERAL TIMES IN ONE DAY, 1 TIME DURING THE DAY OR NOT AT ALL FOR 1 OR SEVERAL DAYS IN A ROW. THERE IS NO SET PATTERN. IT OCCURS DURING COLD AND HOT WEATHER, WITH ELECTRICAL DEVICES ON OR OFF, IN NEUTRAL OR DRIVE, IF THE ENGINE HAS WARMED UP OR IS STILL COLD. HAVE TAKEN IT TO DEALER SEVERAL TIMES. DEALER TELLS ME SOMETHING IS WRONG BUT THEY ARE UNSURE OF WHAT. THEY HAVE TRIED SEVERAL TIMES TO REPLACE OR FIX PARTS WITH NO SUCCESS. CHRYSLER'S STAR MECHANICS ARE NOW WORKING ON IT. RECENTLY, THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE RETURNED TO THE DEALER DUE TO ALTERNATOR FAILURE. THE ALTERNATOR SENT SO MUCH HEAT TO THE BATTERY THAT IS CAUSED THE WATER TO BOIL. SULFURIC ACID SPILLED ALL OVER THE FIREWALL OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE ALTERNATOR WAS SENDING CURRENTS OF UP TO 19 VOLTS TO THE BATTERY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 56,000. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE FUSE IMMEDIATELY AND TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP TO BE INSPECTED. THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THAT THE WHOLE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED HOWEVER THE REPLACEMENT PARTS WOULD NEED TO BE ORDERED. ON 06/21/06, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR THE REPLACEMENT HOWEVER THE REPLACEMENT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER HAD NOT BEEN ORDERED. THE DEALER ALERTED THE CONTACT THAT THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONDUCTING MORE TESTS ON THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTERS BECAUSE THERE WERE SEVERAL VEHICLES OF THE SAME MODEL WITH THE SAME PROBLEM.

TOOK MY 2006 JEEP WRANGLER SPORT RIGHT-HAND DRIVE TO AN INDEPENDENT SERVICE GARAGE FOR ROUTINE OIL CHANGE AT APPROX. 6900 MILES. THEY TESTED ALL THE LIGHTS AND FOUND THAT BOTH MAIN BRAKE LIGHTS WERE NOT FUNCTIONING, AND NOT DUE TO BULB FAILURE. THE THIRD LIGHT, ABOVE THE SPARE TIRE, WAS WORKING PROPERLY. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER UNDER WARRANTY, WHERE THEY DETERMINED THE PROBLEM WAS A FAULTY STEERING COLUMN ELECTRICAL STALK SYSTEM ASSEMBLY. NO ACCIDENT OCCURRED, THOUGH SUCH A BRAKE LIGHT FAILURE COULD POTENTIALLY CAUSE A VERY SERIOUS CRASH. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE FAULTY STEERING COLUMN STOCK ASSEMBLY UNDER WARRANTY, AND THE DEFECTIVE PART WAS NOT SAVED. *NM
