Vehicle Information: Make: Jeep Model: Wrangler Model Year: 2007 VIN: [XXX] Safety Recall Information: NHTSA Campaign ID: 16V-290 Manufacturer Recall Number: S33 Component: Airbag / Clock Spring This recall was previously performed by a dealership in February 2021; however, the vehicle is now experiencing the same symptoms the recall was intended to address, indicating the safety defect has reoccurred or was not permanently remedied. The vehicle is currently experiencing: Illuminated airbag (SRS) warning light Horn failure Traction control / electronic stability program warning light Erratic or abnormal A/C behavior that coincides with the SRS/steering wheel electrical faults These failures are consistent with a defective clock spring and directly impact the Supplemental Restraint System and other active safety systems. I contacted an authorized Jeep dealership to request inspection and repair of this recurring safety defect. The dealership confirmed the recall had been previously completed but refused to diagnose or repair the vehicle, stating in writing: “Due to company policy, we are unable to perform diagnostic or repair services on vehicles that are more than 10 years old.” They further stated that because the recall was marked as completed in 2021, they would not assist further and recommended I seek an independent repair facility. I believe this refusal violates the intent and requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act (49 U.S.C. §§ 30118–30120), which requires manufacturers to remedy safety defects and does not allow age-based or policy-based refusal when a safety defect exists or reoccurs. This defect involves the airbag system and active safety features and presents an ongoing risk to vehicle occupants. I am requesting NHTSA’s assistance in reviewing this matter and ensuring that the manufacturer and/or authorized dealer fulfills their obligation to properly remedy this safety defect. I have 5 recalls but have been told by the dealer that because my vehicle is a re-constructed title that recalls cannot be done. Is this true?
Delearship claims they repaired three recalls on vehicle... but they did not!!
There was not an incident, thankfully. However, I was billed for recalls to be complete, but they were not actually completed. I have attached the receipt showing where the service department claimed they completed the recalls but Jeep Corporate states the recalls have NOT been completed and are still open recalls. This service department has been dishonest about several other issues as well.
I called the dealership to see what do I need to do for my recall they told me to bring my car in. I brought my car in and they said that I need a appointment to bring it back on 7/25/2023. I brought it back on 7/25/23 and they kept it until 7/28/23 told be that they need to order parts. They have not contacted me. I would like to file a complaint All Star Dodge in Denham Springs, Louisiana 225-523-3652. Please let me know what I need to do. TOOK MY JEEP INTO A DEALERSHIP TO FIX MY AIRBAG. THEY FIXED IT AND IT WAS DOING FINE FOR ABOUT 2YEARS AND NOW TH AIRBAG LIGHT KEEPS ON TURNING ON AND OFF I KNOW THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL ON IT. SO WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT CAN I DO ABOUT THAT. THANKS
I HAVE A CURRENT RECALL FOR A DEFECTIVE AIRBAG IN MY 2007 JEEP WRANGLER. THE AIRBAG IS CURRENTLY NOT OPERATIONAL. EVERY 1-2 MINUTES WHILE DRIVE THE AIRBAG LIGHT WILL COME ON AND DING. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AND IT MAKES THE VEHICLE INCREDIBLY ANNOYING TO DRIVE. A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP DIAGNOSED THE ERROR CODES AND THEY SAID THE PROBLEM IS RELATED TO THE FOLLOWING RECALL AND I SHOULD TAKE IT TO A DEALER TO BE FIXED. MANUFACTURER RECALL NUMBER: S33 NHTSA RECALL NUMBER: 16V-290 I WAITED FOR THE FIRST AVAILABLE APPOINTMENT AND TOOK MY VEHICLE TO AUTONATION ARAPAHOE JEEP IN CENTENNIAL, COLORADO TODAY. THEY SAID IT WILL BE A YEAR AND A HALF OR MORE BEFORE THE PART IS IN STOCK. THEY WILL NOT BE ABLE TO FIX THE ISSUE UNTIL THEN. THIS IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE TO HAVE THE MANUFACTURER ACKNOWLEDGE A DEFECTIVE AIRBAG AND I HAVE TO WAIT A YEAR AND A HALF TO GET IT FIXED. SADLY, I DON'T KNOW WHAT RECOURSE I HAVE TO GET IT FIXED. ASIDE FROM PAYING $500 OUT OF POCKET TO HAVE THE LOCAL AUTO REPAIR SHOP FIX IT. WHICH IS WHAT THEY QUOTED ME FOR. AND SAID THEY COULD THE PART IN STOCK TO REPAIR IN 2 DAYS.

THIS RECALL HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR ABOUT 5 YEARS NOW AND THEY HAVE NOT REPAIRED IT YET ! THIS IS MY SECOND REQUEST FOR HELP THE SRS SYSTEM LIGHT STARTS TO FLASH AT TIMES.

TAKATA RECALL. RECEIVED A NOTICE FOR PASSENGER AIRBAG INFLATOR THAT IF DEPLOYED COULD RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. CALLED DEALER TO GET REPAIRED AND WAS TOLD PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE YET FOR THAT RECALL. TEN MONTHS WENT BY WITH PARTS NOT AVAILABLE ALL THE WHILE PUTTING ME AND MY FAMILY AT RISK OF SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH.
TAKADA RECALL. I RECENTLY HAD MY RECALLED DEFECTIVE TAKADA AIR BAG REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY AT ANTWERPEN JEEP IN CATONSVILLE MD. AFTER REPLACING THE AIR BAG, I WAS INFORMED THAT THE AIR BAG LIGHT WAS STILL ON IN MY VEHICLE. THEY TOLD ME THEY COULD DIAGNOSE THE LIGHT FOR $135.00. I REFUSED TO PAY THIS BECAUSE THEY HAD PREVIOUSLY REPLACED THE CLOCK SPRING UNDER WARRANTY AND I INFORMED THEM OF MY AIR BAG LIGHT PROBLEM THEN. THEY WANTED TO CHARGE ME $200.00 AT THAT TIME TO DIAGNOSE THE SYSTEM THAT THEY HAD JUST WORKED ON. I NOW FEEL THAT I CANNOT TRUST THIS DEALERSHIP TO WORK MY VEHICLE FOR THESE SAFETY ISSUES. TAKATA AT THIS STAGE SHOULD REPLACE MY VEHICLE SINCE THE THREAT OF USING THE VEHICLE WITH THE RECALL IS DANGEROUS TO ANY PASSENGER. IN EARLY DECEMBER I WAS NOTIFIED THAT PARTS WERE AVAILABLE BUT NOW FOR ONLY ONE OF THE AIRBAGS AND THAT WAS REPAIRED. HOWEVER, AS TO THE 2ND AIRBAG, AGAIN THE PARTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE AND THERE IS NO KNOWN DATE WHEN THE PARTS WILL BE AVAILABLE. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. TO BE TOLD THAT THERE IS A DEFECT AND NOW WAITING OVER 5 MONTHS FOR COMPLETE REPAIR IS NOT RIGHT AND EXTREMELY DISCONCERTING. WHY MAY JEEP TAKE SO LONG TO REPAIR THIS DANGEROUS PROBLEM?

THESE ARE POTENTIALLY LIFE THREATENING CONDITIONS WHICH THIS MANUFACTURER/DEALER IS UNABLE OR UNWILLING TO ADDRESS.

WENT BACK TO JEEP ON TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 6TH. THE CLOCKSPRING ISSUE WAS TAKEN CARE OF, HOWEVER, I WAS TOLD TO WAIT FOR THE PASSENGER AIRBAG RECALL. RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR OVER TWO MONTHS AND HAS NOT BEEN RESOLVED. IT IS NOT ONLY AN INCONVENIENCE FOR SOMEONE WHO NEEDS TO TRADE THEIR CAR FOR ANOTHER VEHICLE, BUT IT IS A DANGER TO MYSELF EVERY TIME I STEP INTO MY CAR. I NOW CAN NOT IN GOOD CONSCIENCE TAKE ANOTHER PASSENGER IN THE VEHICLE WITH ME, WHICH IS CAUSING A DISTURBANCE TO MY LIFE AND MY WORK. ON THE 2007 JEEP WRANGLER (LHD) DASHBOARD, THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT FLASHES ON EVERY OTHER MINUTE WITH A CHIME, AN INDICATION THAT THERE IS SOMETHING MALFUNCTIONING OR INTERFERING WITH THE VEHICLE'S AIRBAGS.THIS HAS BEEN A RECURRING ISSUE AND CONCERN FOR MANY 2007 JEEP WRANGLER (LHD) OWNERS, INCLUDING MYSELF, AND HAS BEEN SHOWN TIME AND TIME AGAIN TO BE CAUSED BY A FAULTY CLOCKSPRING WITHIN THE VEHICLE'S STEERING WHEEL. THIS FAULTY CLOCKSPRING IS THE CULPRIT FOR POTENTIAL AIRBAG FAILURE IN THE 2007 JEEP WRANGLER (LHD) DURING AN ACCIDENT OR PREMATURE DEPLOYMENT WHEN SIMPLY DRIVING AROUND. DAIMLER CHRYSLER HAS REFUSED TO ADDRESS THE SAFETY CONCERN OF THEIR FAULTY CLOCKSPRING THAT CAN CAUSE FAILURE OF THE VEHICLE'S AIRBAGS FROM PROPERLY DEPLOYING. *TR

I TOOK MY WIFE'S 2007 JEEP WRANGLER JK (4 DOOR AUTOMATIC) TO COURTHOUSE SHELL HERE LOCALLY TO GET THE STATE INSPECTION DONE (MY FIRST TIME FOR THIS SINCE PURCHASING IT ON JULY 1ST 2012 FROM CHECKERED FLAG TOYOTA IN GREENBRIER). I RECEIVED A CALL SAYING THAT THE HORN DID NOT WORK, WHAT DID I WANT TO DO? MY WIFE HAD SAID THAT IT HAD BEEN WORKING THE PREVIOUS WEEK. WELL, I SAID THAT I WANT IT FIXED. THE MECHANIC SHOWED ME THAT THE FUSE IN THE FUSE-BOX WAS NOT GETTING ANY POWER AND THEY NEEDED MORE TIME TO TROUBLESHOOT IT, SO THEY KEPT IT OVERNIGHT, THEY THEN INCORRECTLY SAID IT WAS A SIMPLE RELAY WHICH THEY WOULD ORDER AND RECEIVE LATER THAT SECOND DAY, AND THEY FINALLY FIGURED OUT THAT THE AIR BAG AND THE HORN WERE INCAPACITATED DUE TO A FAULTY $269 AIRBAG CLOCKSPRING ASSEMBLY WHICH HAD TO BE SPECIAL ORDERED FROM A DEALERSHIP, SO THEY ENDED KEEPING IT OVER THE WEEKEND, THE STEERING WHEEL HAD BEEN DISASSEMBLED AND WOULD COST MORE IN LABOR TO REASSEMBLE. ANOTHER OPTION GIVEN THAT HE EXPLAINED TO ME THAT HE COULD RUN A JUMPER WIRE TO A PUSHBUTTON SWITCH TO MAKE THE HORN WORK BUT THE AIRBAG WOULD NOT BE GUARANTEED TO FUNCTION AS NEEDED IN AN ACCIDENT. I MADE THE SAFE DECISION TO HAVE THEM REPLACE THE ENTIRE ASSEMBLY. I WAS QUITE UPSET THOUGH TO HAVE TO DISH OUT $389.75 TOTAL FOR PARTS AND LABOR. I HAVE THE RECEIPT TO SHOW IT IN THE EVENT THAT JEEP EVER DECIDES TO RECALL THAT FLIMSY AND UNSAFE ASSEMBLY. THERE SEEMS TO BE MANY COMPLAINTS LODGED REGARDING THIS SAME ISSUE ONLINE. CONSIDERING THAT THIS ISSUE NOT ONLY AFFECTS THE HORN BUT ALSO THE AIRBAG SYSTEM WHICH WAS UNKNOWINGLY DISABLED FOR A WEEK OR SO, THE SAFETY OF THE DRIVER SHOULD ALWAYS BE PARAMOUNT. RH FRONT SEAT THE AIRBAG ALARM SHUTS OFF AND TURNS ON ALL THE TIME. FAULTY ALARM THE DEALER WANTS 300.00 DOLLARS TO FIX. IT SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM IN JEEP WRANGLERS, THAT TELLS ME IT'S A FAULTY ALARM THAT SHOULD BE RECALLED. *TR
WHILE SITTING IN THE DRIVEWAY, THE HORN BEGAN BEEPING ON ITS OWN FOR A FEW SECONDS AT A TIME AND THEN STOP. I EVENTUALLY DISCONNECTED THE HORN COMPLETELY. A FEW DAYS LATER, THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON A BLINKED INTERMITTENTLY. IT STILL DOES IT TO THIS DAY. JEEP ONLY HAS 50,000 MILES ON IT. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD IT WAS A BAD CLOCK SPRING. I ALSO HEARD OF OTHER JEEPS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR

THIS IS MY THIRD CLOCKSPRING IN JUST OVER TWO YEARS. I RUN A JEEP TOUR COMPANY WITH TWO JEEPS, TWO BEING THE 4 DOOR UNLIMITED. JUST AFTER REPLACING THE SECOND ONE IN JUST UNDER TWO YEARS ON THE 07 JEEP THIS ONE WENT OUT. I WAS TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH OR LESS WHEN THE AIRBAG WAS ILLUMINATED. BASED ON PRIOR EXPERIENCE WITH THE 07 I HAD IT CHECKED OUT AND DISCOVERED THIS CLOCKSPRING HAD BECOME DEFECTIVE AS THE PRIOR TWO. I REPLACED THIS CLOCKSPRING MYSELF TO SAVE ON COSTS AS THE TWO PRIOR REPLACEMENTS COST OVER $400 EACH TIME. I HAVE SAVED TWO OF THESE CLOCKSPRINGS IF NEEDED FOR INVESTIGATION.

THIS IS THE FIRST OF THREE SIMILAR INCIDENTS CONCERNING TWO DIFFERENT JEEPS AND CLOCKSPRING FAILURE. IN THIS INCIDENT THEY ADVISED THAT IT WAS CAUSED FROM A BIG JARRING. IN THE SECOND INCIDENT THEY SAID DUST. THE THIRD ONE, IN A SEPARATE 2008 WRANGER I REPLACED MYSELF. THEY CHARGE APPROXIMATELY $150 FOR LESS THEN A MINUTE OF DIAGNOSTIC AND APPROXIMATELY $250 FOR A PART THAT COSTS LESS THEN $180. I BELIEVE THIS IS A FLEECING OF THE PUBLIC AND NEEDS THE ATTENTION OF YOUR AGENCY. THERE IS A WAY TO DISABLE THE THE AIRBAG SOUND AND BECAUSE OF THESE COSTS IT COULD/WILL LEAD TO A DEATH FROM FAILURE.

THE CHRYSLER CLOCK SPRINGS ARE FAILING ON ALMOST ALL OF THEIR VEHICLES. THERE ARE PAGES AND PAGES OF COMPLAINTS ON JEEP FORUMS ALONE. THIS IS A EXTREME SAFETY ISSUE. CHRYSLER WILL NOT WARRANTY THIS PART AT ANY COST. THERE NEEDS TO BE A SAFETY RECALL ON THIS ITEM ASAP.

WHEN I'M DROVE NORMALLY, AND USUALLY STRAIGHT, THE LIGHT JUST STAYED ON WITH NO DING. THROUGH RESEARCH, I'VE COME TO FIND THAT MY CLOCKSPRING WAS FAULTY AND MAY NOT DEPLOY MY AIRBAG IF I WERE TO GET INTO AN ACCIDENT. I HAD THIS FIXED THROUGH CHRYSLER. THEY SAID IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER ANY WARRANTY. NOW, ON JAN. 15, 2011 WITH 103,769 MILES, THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME BACK ON AND DID THE SAME THING AS PREVIOUSLY. I WENT BACK TO THE SAME DEALER TO HAVE THEM CHECK IT OUT, ONLY FOR THEM TO TELL ME, AGAIN, IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER ANY WARRANTY AND THAT I HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE IT REPLACED AGAIN. CONSIDERING THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE, I WAS SURPRISED TO FIND I HAD TO PAY BOTH TIMES. IF I DIDN'T GET THIS FIXED, AND I GOT INTO AN ACCIDENT, MY AIRBAG MAY NOT DEPLOY. COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE.

THE SERVICE MANAGER STATED THAT THE KNEE BOLSTERS WERE NOT STANDARD FOR HIS VEHICLE AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO PROVIDE ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 79.
