The contact's girlfriend owns a 2007 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated while refueling the vehicle, gasoline would spew out of the fuel filler neck. The dealer was made aware of the failure but informed the contact that there was no recall associated with the VIN and that the vehicle was out of warranty. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but informed the contact that the vehicle was out of warranty. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.

EVERYIME THIS VEHICLE IS FUELED FULL AT THE GAS PUMP, IT WILL NOT SHUT OFF WHEN THE TANK IS FULL. THIS RESULTS IN AN OVERFLOW OF GASOLINE, EVERYWHERE...ON MY HANDS, DOWN THE SIDE OF MY VEHICLE AND PUDDLES ON THE GROUND. THERE IS NO WARNING AND THE ONLY WAY I AM ABLE TO FILL THE TANK IS BY TURNING THE ENGINE ON AND WATCHING THE MILEAGE INCREASE ON THE DISTANCE TO EMPTY (DTE) DISPLAY ON MY DASH.... WHICH IS NOT SAFE TO DO. IT OCCURS EVERYTIME I FILL UP MY JEEP. THERE IS NO RECALL TO FIX THIS ISSUE. IT'S BEEN AN ISSUE SINCE I PURCHASED MY JEEP IN MARCH 2010.

MY SOLUTION IS TO STUFF PAPER TOWELS AT THE NOZZLE DURING EVERY FILL, WHICH SOAKS UP THE EXCESS FUEL SPILLAGE. FIRST OCCURRENCE DEC 6TH 2012, BACKING OUT OF AN INCLINED DRIVEWAY. VEHICLE SEEMED AS IF IT HAD NO POWER, STALLED, SPITTING AND SPUTTERING LIKE IT WAS STARVING FOR GAS. FINALLY GOT IT OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY AND WAS ABOUT 15 MILES FROM CLOSEST JEEP DEALERSHIP IN OCALA FL, AND NURSED IT THERE, SPITTING AND SPUTTERING AND STALLING THE WHOLE TRIP. LEFT IT OVERNIGHT AND GOT A CALL THE NEXT DAY WHERE THEY HAD FOUND THE PROBLEM AND A COUPLE OF OTHER THINGS WRONG (UNRELATED TO THE PROBLEM) I APPROVED THE FIXES AND AFTER $677.00 LATER DROVE OFF THE LOT. THE ONLY THING I CAN SEE ON THE INVOICE THAT WOULD HAVE CAUSED THE ORIGINAL PROBLEM IS A LINE THAT READS "CLEANER-FUELSYSTEM" AND HAS A $59.00 PART AND A $106.00 LABOR CHARGE. ON JANUARY 13TH 2013 IT STARTS ACTING UP AGAIN. I TAKE IT BACK TO SAME DEALERSHIP THE NEXT DAY AND COMPLAIN THAT I'M NOT GOING TO COME IN EVERY MONTH AND PAY A $90.00 DIAGNOSTICS FEE FOR SOMETHING THEY SAID WAS FIXED. SO THEY PLUG IT IN AND THE CODE TELLS THEM I WAS RUNNING "LEAN" HOWEVER THEY HAVE NO IDEA THIS TIME WHAT'S WRONG. AND OF COURSE IT'S NOT DOING IT SO THEY "CAN'T FIX WHAT'S NOT BROKE". BETWEEN JAN AND JULY IT HAS DONE THIS MANY TIMES, IN THE BEGINNING IT WAS ONCE OR TWICE A MONTH BUT NOW WILL DO IT ALMOST EVERY TRIP. WHEN IT STALLS COMPLETELY I LOOSE PS & PB, VERY DANGEROUS. JEEP HAS REFUSED TO RECOGNIZE THAT THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW AND REFUSES TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE ENVIRONMENTAL AND SAFETY HAZARD THAT THIS FLAW CAUSES EACH AND EVERY TIME THESE JEEPS ARE FUELED UP. AT THE POINT OF FILLING UP, THE GAS TANK OVERFLOWS SENDING LARGE AMOUNTS OF GAS ON THE SIDE OF THE JEEP AND ONTO THE GROUND. VEHICLE WAS JUST PURCHASED CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED. VEHICLE CAME WITH A FULL TANK OF GASOLINE. WHILE RE-FILLING AT A GAS STATION FOR THE FIRST TIME, THE TANK FILLED NORMALLY. AS SOON AS THE FUEL REACHED THE NOZZLE END I HEARD THE NOZZLE CLICK OFF. THEN APPROXIMATELY HALF A GALLON OF FUEL SPRAYED OUT THE END OF THE FILL TUBE. THE FUEL RAN ALL OVER THE SIDE OF THE JEEP AND ALSO SPRAYED ONTO MY PANT LEG AND SHOE. I HAVE SINCE LOOKED THIS ISSUE UP ONLINE IN JEEP OWNER'S FORUMS AND FOUND THIS TO BE A HUGE PROBLEM AMONG SO MANY OF THESE MODELS. NOT ONLY IS THIS A TREMENDOUS SAFETY ISSUE, BUT ALSO AN ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUE AS WELL. IT IS OBVIOUS THAT THE TANK IS NOT VENTED PROPERLY. THIS ISSUE NEEDS IMMEDIATE ATTENTION BEFORE A TRAGIC EVENT OCCURS. EARLIER IN THIS FORM I WAS ASKED IF A FIRE OCCURRED I ANSWERED NO. THANK GOD THIS TIME THERE WAS NOT. IT IS UNSAFE FOR THE OPERATOR TO HAVE FUEL SPRAYED ON THEM, AND HAVE FUEL SPILLAGE ON THE GROUND.

I HAVE BEEN INFORMED THAT SOME JEEPS AFTER A BUILD DATE FROM MARCH 2007 THRU 2008 ARE BEING REPAIRED BY THE DEALER. THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME I FILL MY CAR AT EVERY GAS STATION. I NOW ONLY FILL MY CAR TO APPROXIMATELY 3/4 FULL. IT STARTED HAPPENING FALL OF 2010 WITH APPROXIMATELY 37,000 MILES ON THE CAR. THIS HAS HAPPENED ABOUT 10-12 TIMES.

THIS IS A RECURRING PROBLEM THAT I FACE WHEN I FILL THE VEHICLE UP AT ANY GAS STATION. WHILE FILLING THE VEHICLE WITH GAS, THE AUTO STOP CLICKS, AND IMMEDIATELY THE TANK STARTS SPILLING GAS. THIS PROBLEM ISN'T ATTRIBUTABLE TO TRYING TO "TOP OFF" THE TANK BECAUSE THE BY THE FIRST TIME THE AUTO STOP CLICKS, THE VEHICLE IS ALREADY POURING OUT GASOLINE. I HAVE SPOKEN TO MANY OTHER OWNERS REGARDING THIS PROBLEM AND THEY HAVE SAID THE SAME THING. 2007 JEEP WRANGLER - EVERY TIME I FILL THE GAS TANK, SINCE ROUGHLY 10,000 MILES (NOW AT 63,000) THE AUTO SHUT OFF FEATURE OF GAS PUMPS WILL NOT SHUT OFF IN TIME. THIS CAUSES ROUGHLY 1/4 GALLON OF FUEL TO SPILL DOWN THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THIS HAS BEEN A RECURRING SITUATION FOR A COUPLE YEARS. I CANNOT RELY ON THE AUTO-SHUT OFF OF THE PUMP WITH THIS VEHICLE. ALMOST INSTANTANEOUSLY, THE FUEL NOZZLE HANDLE SHUTS OFF AND ROUGHLY GALLON OF FUEL GUSHES OUT ON THE JEEP, BUMPER AND GROUND. EVERY TIME THE VEHICLE IS FILLED WITH GASOLINE, GASOLINE EXITS THE TANK THROUGH THE FILLER TUBE AND SPLASHES ON THE GROUND LEAVING A POTENTIAL FOR FIRE. THIS HAPPENS AT PUMPS AT DIFFERENT STATIONS IN DIFFERENT STATES, DIFFERENT AMOUNTS OF FUEL WITHIN BEFORE FUELING, AND REGARDLESS OF PLACEMENT OF THE FILLING HANDLE OF THE PUMP. THE VEHICLE WORKED AS IT SHOULD FOR THE FIRST 25K MILES AND WILL NOT FILL CORRECTLY SINCE THAT TIME WITHOUT LEAVING FUEL ON THE GROUND. THIS IS MY SECOND 2007 JEEP WRANGLER AND BOTH HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM AT APPROXIMATELY THE SAME MILEAGE. EACH VEHICLE WAS FILLED WITH THE CORRECT GASOLINE AS PRESCRIBED BY THE MANUAL AND ALL MAINTENANCE WAS DONE AT A 5 STAR JEEP DEALER ON BOTH. THERE APPEARS TO BE A DEFECT IN THE DESIGN OF THE GAS SYSTEM.

A WEEK LATER I WAS AT ANOTHER GAS STATION FILLING UP WITH GAS AND IT DID IT AGAIN ONLY THIS TIME GAS SPILLED ALL OVER MY JEEP, PANTS AND SHOES. EVERY SINCE THE FIRST EPISODE IT HAD HAPPENED EVERY TIME I FILL UP. I HAVE TRIED TO HOLD THE NOZZLE AND PUMP IT SLOWLY, BUT IT STILL HAPPENS. IT IS BEYOND FRUSTRATING TO HAVE TO WASH THE SIDE OF MY JEEP OFF EVERY TIME I FILL UP WITH GAS. THIS COULD BE A VERY BIG ISSUE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE OPERATING THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS, THE MOTOR FAILED. THERE WAS BLACK SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE DASHBOARD UPON FAILURE. THE CONTACT MADE THE NECESSARY REPAIRS TO THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR AT HIS OWN EXPENSE. HE ALSO STATED THE FUEL TANK WAS DEFECTIVE AND TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE FUEL TANK SKID PLATE WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE REPAIR WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,000 AND THE APPROXIMATE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 28,000.

THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY COULD NOT PERFORM THE RECALL REPAIR, BUT FAILED TO OFFER AN EXPLANATION. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 3,100.
