While driving at speed, vehicle electrical went haywire. Headlights went on and off. Horn sounding on and off, Wipers and washers going on and off, HVAC blower on and off. Pulled over vehicle and turned off and removed key and it still remained running, all horn, lights, and wipers still going on and off. Opened hood, removed negative battery terminal, and with that, car still ran! Was several minutes and car finally shut itself off. Scary that the car went completely haywire and would not shut off, even with key out, and battery disconnected!

The ABS computer brake module is bad in my jeep. It needs a replacement. Confirmed by Chrysler Jeep dealership. However, Chrysler does not offer a replacement module. ABS does not work on my vehicle. This is a huge safety issue and is common problem among this year Jeep. Chrysler shouldn’t be allowed to NOT have a replacement OEM ABS module. Huge safety risk and lawsuit

I was driving down the road in my 2008 wrangler and all of the sudden every light flashed on my dash board then it felt like I could not shift gears then smoke came pouring out of my air vents. I pulled over and got out realizing it was on fire. Climbed in to save my dog just before the fire got huge. My entire Jeep is gone.

April 22, 2025 my 2008 Jeep lost power. There was a sequence, where one warning light was followed by another, followed by a complete loss of power. I charged the battery, car started up, I drove to dealer (a 5-minute trip), and by my arrival the Jeep had again lost all power. Dealer checked the vehicle, and told me the battery and charging system were fine, but the ABS brake modulator was draining the power. They have not been able to get another modulator and the vehicle is still at the dealer (Crown Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram Dublin, OH). Losing power precipitously presents a safety hazard.

The TIPM shorts out then the wipers, start running, horn blares, windshield washer fluid sprays, lights flash. The only way to stop it is unhook the battery. This is so unsafe driving on the highway you cant see the road. I almost crashed trying to pull over. After doing some internet research this is so common. This should be a recall it is dangerous! I wont let my son drive it now.

Car was purchased 1 hour prior to incident from a dealership. Car was in idle and was shifted to drive and automatically accelerated rapidly without foot on gas pedal and breaks did not work when breaks were forcefully applied during the incident. The car crashed into a house deck and went off the cement pad and crashed into trees in the yard. Unable to remove key from ignition, had to be placed in neutral to remove key. We had the car for less than an hour after purchase. Damage was sustained to the deck and significant damage to car, air bags did not deploy. Claim was immediately filed with insurance.

The contact owns a 2008 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds or while the vehicle was parked, the horn would sound, the windshield wipers would engage while the windshield washer would spray washer fluid on the windshield, the doors would lock and unlock, and the headlights would turn on an off intermittently. The contact stated that the vehicle would lose electrical and motive power and become difficult to steer. The contact stated that the failure had occurred at least 30 times since owning the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and several dealers who were unable to diagnose and determine the cause of the failure. The contact stated that he was informed that this was a known issue with Jeep vehicles. The contact stated that there was a recall for the issue for other years, makes, and models however, his vehicle was not included. The contract also did not have the recall information to provide. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

TIPM/ all warning lights came on. Started with radio Turing on, wipers malfunctioning, lights coming on out of no where. Now vehicle will not stay on in addition battery will not stay charged.

The contact owns a 2008 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that the horn, alarm, windows, and windshield wipers spontaneously engaged. There were several unknown warning lights flashing. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the clockspring needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The contact was then informed that the TIPM needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified if the failure, however, no additional assistance was provided. The approximate failure mileage was 125,000. The VIN was not available.

This has happened on more than 1 occasion. Driving on the highway and I lose power, the Jeep slows way down, the accelerator pedal is dead, and the Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) light comes on. It does the same thing driving in town. Sometimes you can turn the vehicle off, wait a couple minutes, start it back up and it will be ok for a little bit. Sometimes it won’t. I have replaced some parts, read forums, communicated with a dealer service department and it doesn’t sound like there is a “fix” for this. This is very dangerous and someone could get seriously injured or killed.

My Jeep just intermittently started the crank no start issue and gave code PO5013, incorrect immobilizer key. After extensive research I have found many Jeep owners to have this same problem and also found that Chrysler has confirmed it is a built in problem. After taking my Jeep to to dealer and having my keys checked along with the starter and ignition cylinder lock it is the (WCM) wireless control module that is the culprit of the crank but no start issue. This is an extremely unsafe problem due to my vehicle shutting down while driving on top of the other various problems the wcm has caused. Directions say to reset the WCM by pulling the IOD fuse for 30 seconds and then replacing however this method no longer works.

I WAS DRIVING DOWN A STATE HIGHWAY AT 40 MPH. WHEN MY HORN STARTED BLOWING, WINDSHIELD WIPER TURNED ON, LIGHTS FLASHING SO I HAD TO TURN ONTO A SIDE ROAD. MOTOR WAS STILL RUNNING SO I TURN IT OFF. THE ENGINE STOPPED BUT EVERYTHING ELSE REMAINED ON. HORN WAS STILL BLOWING, WIPERS ON...I DISCONNECTED THE HORN WIRES TO STOP THE HORN. I STARTED TO MOVE SOME WIRES THINKING THAT THERE MAY BE A SHORT SOMEWHERE. FINALLY EVERYTHING STOPPED BUT NOW MY CAR WOULDN'T START. I HAD TO GET IT TOWED. THROUGH SOME RESEARCH I FOUND IT TO BE THE TIPM ( TOTAL INTEGRATED POWER MODULE. IT HAS BEEN FINE SINCE I HAD IT REPLACED. FORTUNATELY THIS ALL TOOK PLACE DURING THE DAY IN GOOD WEATHER. HAD IT HAPPENED AT NIGHT OR IN THE WINTER SNOW OR IN SOME REMOTE AREA IT WOULD HAVE CAUSED A GREAT DEAL OF PAIN OR A DANGEROUS SITUATION. 2008 JEEP WRANGLER HAS HAD SEVERAL ISSUES WITH TIPM. WIPERS WILL COME ON, HORN WILL SOUND, WASHER FLUID SPRAYS, AND TRANSMISSION WILL NOT SHIFT (WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION AND THIS HAPPENS) INTERMITTENTLY AND WILL SOMETIMES CREATE A NO CRANK/NO START CONDITION AFTER THE MALFUNCTION HAPPENS WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION AND HAS BEEN SHUT OFF. DEFECT HAS BEEN TRACED BACK TO TIPM AND TIPM WAS REPLACED WITH AN AFTERMARKET REMANUFACTURED TIPM. PROBLEM RESOLVED AND NOW HAS REAPPEARED WITH ADDITIONAL SYMPTOMS, SUCH AS WHEN VEHICLE IS PUT IN REVERSE WIPERS WILL GO OFF AND ENGINE WILL REV TO HIGHER RPMS THAN NECESSARY TO ALLOW FOR ACCELERATION. THE TIPM DEFECT CREATES A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY HAZARD WHEN IT INTERFERES WITH THE SHIFTING, ACCELERATION OF VEHICLE. MOST RECENT ISSUE WAS 11/09/2020; ISSUE HAS BEEN ONGOING SINCE 06/2019.

IN RESEARCHING THIS, I AM FINDING THAT IT WAS A COMMON PROBLEM ON JEEP VEHICLES OF THAT TIME PERIOD. IT MOST RECENTLY OCCURRED TODAY, ALTHOUGH IT HAS HAPPENED FOR ABOUT THE LAST 2 YEARS, SINCE SHORTLY AFTER I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE.

MECHANIC INFORMS ME IT IS TIPM ISSUE WITH 2007-2011 JEEPS/CHRYSLERS/DODGES. I INVESTIGATED ONLINE AND JEEP FORUMS ETC. SUPPORT THIS AND YET JEEP REFUSES TO ACCEPT ACCOUNTABILITY- AS SOMEONE WHO HAS NEARLY WRECKED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS, I IMPLORE YOU ADDRESS THIS OR SOMEONE IS GOING TO DIE, BECAUSE JEEP CONTINUES TO IGNORE THIS PROBLEM!!! AFTER THE CONTACT LEFT THE DEALER AND WAS DRIVING HOME AT 65 MPH, A BURNING ODOR WAS DETECTED COMING FROM THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. MY AC/HEATER BLOWER MOTOR WORK INTERMITTENTLY. THE HORN SOUNDS WITHOUT BEING ENGAGED. THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS WILL ENGAGE BY THEMSELVES. THESE ISSUES HAPPEN BOTH STATIONARY AND WHILE DRIVING. I BELIVE THESE ISSUES ARE CAUSED BY THE TOTAL INTEGRATED POWER MODULE. WHEN TALKING WITH OTHERS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM THERE APPEARS TO BE A RECURRING PROBLEM WITH THESE VEHICLES. I BELIEVE THESE MALFUNCTIONS COULD PUT ME IN DANGER. FOR EXAMPLE, IF I CAN'T DEFROST THE WINDSHIELD THERE IS A VISABILITY PROBLEM. ALSO, ASSUMING IT IS THE TIPM THERE ARE MANY OTHER THINGS THAT WILL EVENTUALLY HAPPEN.

THE CONTACT REQUESTED A TEST DRIVE AND THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT LEFT THE VEHICLE AT THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO CALL THE DEALER FOR A REMEDY. THE DEALER REPLACED THE PART AND THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE STALLED AT 60 MPH. THE KEY WAS REMOVED AND THE STATE TROOPER HAD TO DIRECT TRAFFIC BECAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED BACK TO THE DEALER WHO INDICATED THAT THE TIPM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN AT THE DEALER'S FOR MONTHS WITH NO SOLUTION. THE SERVICE CENTER MANAGER ESCALATED THE CONCERN TO THE MANUFACTURER. A CASE MANAGER WAS TO FOLLOW UP WITH THE CONTACT TO DETERMINE IF A SOLUTION WAS RECOMMENDED FROM THE MANUFACTURER. THE DEALER ALSO MENTIONED A WARRANTY, BUT DID NOT DISCLOSE IF THERE WOULD BE A REPAIR CONCERNING THE REMEDY. THE MANUFACTURER ISSUED AN ELECTRICAL RECALL FOR THE 2007 MODEL, BUT NOT THE 2008 MODEL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.

IN 2012 MY REAR BRAKE CALIPERS SEIZED ON BOTH THE PASSENGER AND DRIVER SIDE, THEY WERE GLOWING CHERRY-RED AFTER A 1 HOUR COMMUTE INTO WORK, PERFECT TO START A FIRE IF I HAD PULLED INTO A GAS STATION WITH SOME GAS SPILLED ON THE GROUND OR SOMETHING. I GOT AFTER-MARKET CALIPERS BECAUSE THE GUY AT AUTO ZONE SAID THAT HE HAD SEVERAL CUSTOMERS WITH THE SAME ISSUE THAT REPLACED IT WITH FACTORY CALIPERS AND THEY FAILED WITHIN 40000 MILES, THEY WENT WITH AFTER-MARKET CALIPERS AND NEVER HAD A PROBLEM, I HAVE NOT HAD A PROBLEM SINCE MYSELF. WELL NOW ALL OF A SUDDEN MY HORN, FRONT PASSENGER PARKING LAMP/TURN SIGNAL STOPPED WORKING. THERE ARE NO BLOWN FUSES OR UNHOOKED WIRES, EVERYTHING IS STOCK (I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE BRAND NEW). AT THIS SAME TIME, MY PASSENGER SEAT KEEPS COMING UNLATCHED AND FLYING FORWARD AND BACK (AS IF SOMEONE WERE TRYING TO ENTER THE BACK SEAT). THIS IS DANGEROUS AND PRESENTS A CHOKING HAZARD, ESPECIALLY IF SOMEONE IS SITTING IN THE SEAT WITH THE SEAT BELT FASTENED. SINCE THE HORN HAS STOPPED WORKING, I AM CONCERNED THAT MY AIR-BAG MAY NOT DEPLOY (CLOCK-SPRING ISSUE) OR IF IT IS THAT TIPM AGAIN. WHILE DRIVING HOME LAST NIGHT DURING A SNOW STORM AT APPROX. 50 MPH THE ENGINE STALLED AND THE LIGHTS STARTED GOING ON AND OFF. THANKFULLY I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT TO THE HIGHWAY SHOULDER AND STOP. I ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE ENGINE BUT IT WOULD NOT (THE LIGHT CONTINUED TO FLICKER ON AND OFF SPORADICALLY, THEY FINALLY STOPPED AFTER I TURNED THE EMERGENCY FLASHERS ON. I TRIED TO RESTART THE ENGINE AND IT STARTED BUT THE LIGHTS STARTED THEIR ON AND OFF DANCE AGAIN SO I WENT THROUGH THE PROCESS OF SHUTTING IT OFF AND MANAGED TO GET THE LIGHT TO STOP BY TURNING THE EMERGENCY FLASHERS OFF THEN ON AGAIN. CAR PARKED AND STATIONARY AT HOME. OPENED THE REAR DOOR (WITH KEYS IN HAND, NOT IN IGNITION) AND THE FRONT WINDSHIELD WIPERS STARTED GOING AND THE RUNNING LIGHTS CAME ON. AFTER 1-2 MINUTES THE HORN STARTED BLOWING AND THE HEATER BLOWER MOTOR CAME ON. PUTTING THE KEY IN IGNITION OR NOT MADE NO DIFFERENCE. PULLED THE POSITIVE TERMINAL OFF OF THE BATTERY AND EVERYTHING STOPPED. RECONNECTED THE POSITIVE TERMINAL AND NOTHING UNUSUAL HAPPENED. TRIED STARTING THE CAR TO TEST AND THE KEY ACTIVATED THE DASH BUT WOULD NOT START THE ENGINE BUT NORMAL DASH LIGHTS CAME ON. WHILE TRYING DIFFERENT THINGS (SHIFT TO NEUTRAL, PARK, ON, OFF, ETC) THE WIPERS (FRONT AND REAR), BLOWER, RUNNING LIGHTS AND HORN ALL CAME BACK ON AND THE ENGINE STARTED WITHOUT TURNING THE KEY FROM RUN TO START. WIPERS AND BLOWER SPEED CHANGED WITHOUT TOUCHING ANY CONTROLS. BLOWER SPEED COULD BE CHANGED THROUGH SWITCH, BUT WHEN BLOWER SWITCH TURNED TO OFF, BLOWER WENT TO HIGH SPEED. PULLED POSITIVE TERMINAL AND NEGATIVE TERMINALS FROM BATTERY WITH NO CHANGE ' EVERYTHING STILL RUNNING. HAD TO PULL WIRES OFF THE ALTERNATOR TO STOP EVERYTHING. THE HEATER BLOWER HAD STOPPED ON THIS VEHICLE A YEAR OR SO AGO AND AFTER TESTING AND REPLACING ALL BLOWER PARTS WITH NEW PARTS IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE TIPM WAS AT FAULT. TIPM HAS NOT YET BEEN REPLACED (BUT WILL BE). IF THIS HAD HAPPENED WHILE THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN IN MOTION, IT WOULD HAVE (AT THE VERY LEAST) PANICKED THE DRIVER. I AM GOING TO RECONNECT THE BATTERY AND ATTEMPT TO VIDEO THE RESULTS.

AFTER HAVING THE VEHICLE FOR A DAY ALONG WITH ALL MY FAULT FINDING DATA THE DEALER CALLED TO INFORM ME IT WAS THE TIPM. AFTER QUESTIONING THE REP AS TO THE CAUSES OF A FAILURE I WAS TOLD THAT IT UNKNOWN BUT A VERY COMMON PROBLEM. AFTER AN EXPENSIVE REPAIR AND 400 MILES POST REPAIR I HAVE HAD NO FURTHER ISSUES.

ON A REGULAR BASIS, THE HORN WILL ENGAGE CONTINUOUSLY, THE WIPERS TURN ONE, THE SPRAY NOZZLE SPRAYS FLUID, THE RADIO OCCASIONALLY WILL TURN OFF, THE HEADLIGHTS TURN OFF (DRIVING HAZARD AT NIGHT), AND THE DOORS LOCK SOMETIMES. ALL OF THIS HAPPENS AT THE SAME TIME. YOU CAN TURN THE KEY OFF AND TAKE IT OUT AND THE ENGINE CONTINUES TO RUN AND THE PROBLEMS CONTINUE TO OCCUR UNTIL YOU EITHER UNHOOK THE BATTERY OR KNOCK ON TOP OF THE TIPM. SOMETIMES THE VEHICLE WILL NOT START. CODE GIVEN IS U0141 WHICH IS "LOSS OF COMMUNICATION WITH THE FRONT CONTROL MODULE (TIPM)." THIS IS A VERY WELL KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE LATE 2007 AND 2008 YEARS OF THE WRANGLER MODEL. IT IS A FAULTY PRODUCT INSTALLED BY CHRYSLER AND MANY DEALERSHIPS RECOGNIZE THE ISSUE. THIS JEEP HAS BEEN NOTHING BUT A ISSUE. HAVE BEEN TO SHOPS FOR A YEAR. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WONT STAY OFF, WHEELS SHAKE AT CERTAIN SPEEDS, OVER HEATS, RADIATOR ISSUES, YOU NAME IT. THE DEALER WOULD NOT COVER ANYTHING AND WENT OUT OF BUSINESS SHORTLY AFTER. THIS JEEP IS A LEMON. THERE HAS TO BE RECALLS ON THIS. JEEP IS CURRENTLY AT GARAGE AGAIN AND THEY ARE SAYING POSSIBLE COMPUTER ISSUES AGAIN MAYBE 02 YADA. CAME OUT OF GROCERY STORE THE OTHER NIGHT AND THE JEEP WOULD NOT START. NOT THE BATTERY. AGAIN THE GARAGE CALLED AND SAID IT MAY BE A ELECTRICAL ISSUE WITH THE SECURITY OF THE VEHICLE. JUST HAD NEW PLUGS AND WIRES INSTALLED. THIS IS ABSURD AND THERE SHOULD BE RECALLS ON THESE JEEPS. IN MAY 2014 I PURCHASES A USED JEEP FROM A DEALER IN KERNERSVILLE, NC AND EXPERIENCED ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLE THE DEALERSHIP CLAIMS ARE MANUFACTURE ISSUES: -LIGHTING: WE HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE TAILLIGHT BULBS ON BOTH SIDES TWICE SINCE PURCHASE (LESS THAN A YEAR AGO). THESE LIGHTS CONSTANTLY HOLD WATER AND WE HAVE TO EMPTY THEM REPEATEDLY AND THE WATER NEVER SEEMS TO EMPTY COMPLETELY. THESE LIGHTS ALSO SEEM TO BE AFFECTED BY WIRING AS THEY DO NOT ALWAYS ILLUMINATE DESPITE AN EFFECTIVE BULB. WE TOOK IT IN FOR REPAIRS UNDER OUR PURCHASED WARRANTY AND THE DEALERSHIP STATES THERE IS WATER DAMAGE DUE TO INSUFFICIENT WIRE PROTECTION. THIS IS VERY CONCERNING AS WATER IS AN EXCELLENT CONDUCTOR OF ELECTRICITY. REGARDLESS OF THE USED CONDITION OF THE CAR I SEE NO REASON WHY THIS SHOULD BE THE CASE AS WIRING SEEMS VERY MUCH LIKE A MANUFACTURE ONLY RESPONSIBILITY. -WHEELS: THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED WITH ALL ORIGINAL WHEELS (NOT TIRES) AND THE VALVE STEMS ON EACH WHEEL HAVE DISINTEGRATED COMPLETELY AND CRUMBLED APART. WE REALIZED THIS WHEN THE LOW AIR LIGHT CAME ON AND WE WENT TO FILL THE TIRES THIS ISSUE SEEMS TO EFFECT HOW WELL THE TIRES CAN HOLD AIR. -SPEEDOMETER: ORIGINALLY WHEN WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE THE SPEEDOMETER WAS OFF BY ABOUT 10MPH (WE DID NOT KNOW THIS UNTIL DRIVING TWO SEPARATE CARS AND THINKING "HMM IS THE OTHER DRIVER REALLY SPEEDING THAT MUCH?" CALL ONE ANOTHER ON THE PHONE AND DETERMINED THE SUBARU WOULD DRIVE 60MPH AND SEE WHAT SPEED THE JEEP CLAIMED TO BE DRIVING WHEN MATCHED. WE HAD THIS ISSUE "FIXED" ABOUT TWO WEEKS AGO AND NOW IT IS EVEN WORSE. UPON DOING THE SAME SPEED TEST THE JEEP WAS NOW 12MPH OVER WHAT IT SHOULD BE. OTHER ISSUES NON-RESOLVED BY DEALERSHIP: RATTLING SOUND NEAR CLUTCH, LESS THAN AWESOME BRAKING, AND A TIRE LIGHT THAT WILL NOT GO OFF NO MATTER WHAT ACTIONS ARE TAKEN. *TR

LEAVING A PARKING LOT ALL MY ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS BEGAN GOING HAYWIRE (WIPERS CAME ON, WIPER FLUID STARTED SPRAYING, RADIO TURNED ON AND OFF, HEAT TURNED ON AND OFF, HORN WAS BLARING, DOOR LOCKS LOCKING/UNLOCKING AT RANDOM). I REMOVED THE KEYS AND THE ELECTRICAL FAILURE CONTINUED. I BEGAN TO SMELL BURNING PLASTIC AND NOTICED SMOKE/FLAMES COMING OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. AFTER OPENING THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT THE FUSE BOX WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES. I WAS ABLE TO PUT THE FIRE OUT WITH A FOUNTAIN DRINK AND A FEW BOTTLES OF WATER FROM BYSTANDERS. THE WIRING HARNESS CONTINUED TO SMOLDER UNTIL THE BATTERY CABLE WAS REMOVED. IT IS NOW IN THE SHOP TO BE REPAIRED AND WILL COST ME 500 DOLLARS OUT OF POCKET FOR MY DEDUCTIBLE. THANKFULLY NO ONE WAS INJURED OR KILLED AND THE VEHICLE WASN'T A COMPLETE LOSS. THIS CAR ALSO HAS NO AFTER MARKET MODIFICATIONS. *TR

STOPPED VEHICLE AT HIGHWAY SHOULDER AND THIS CONTINUED EVEN WHEN ENGINE TURNED OFF. DISCONNECTED BATTERY. WAITED 1 MINUTE, RECONNECTED BATTERY, AND EVERYTHING SEEMED FINE. DROVE ANOTHER 5 MINUTES AND SAME SYMPTOMS STARTED AGAIN AND LASTED UNTIL I REACHED A GAS STATION. POWER WASHER FLUID COMPLETELY DRAINED. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THIS IS THE TPIM OF THE JEEP WRANGLER CAUSING THIS PROBLEM. NOT SURE IF IT IS LINKED TO A START/STOP CONDITION THE VEHICLE HAS- TURN OVER KEY IN IGNITION AND ALL POWER IS ON BUT ENGINE WILL NOT CRANK. DISENGAGE KEY, TRY AGAIN, SOMETIMES WILL START, SOMETIMES WILL TAKE A THIRD OR FOURTH TIME. HAVE BROUGHT THIS TO THE ATTENTION OF THE CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AT IN MARCH 2008. THEY CANNOT DETERMINE A CAUSE. BROUGHT TO A INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. HE INDICATED THIS WOULD BE A TPIM MALFUNCTION AND SHOULD BE REPLACED. 2007 JEEP WRANGLERS HAD A RECALL FOR THE TPIM FAILURE. CHRYSLER HAS EXTENDED THE WARRANTY FOR THE RH 2008 WRANGLERS AND ALL 2007 WRANGLERS, BUT THE WARRANTY FOR THE LH 2008 WRANGLERS, LIKE MINE, HAS NOT BEEN EXTENDED TO BE REPLACED. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE AS THE HORN DOES NOT WORK, AND I AM UNSURE IF MY AIRBAG WILL DEPLOY, IF NEEDED. THERE IS CLEARLY AN ISSUE AS THERE ARE A FLOOD OF COMPLAINTS. I SHOULD ALSO MENTION THAT I HAVE ALSO EXPERIENCED THE "DEATH WOBBLE" WHICH IS WHAT WAS THE INITIAL ISSUE WHICH HAD ME TAKE THE JEEP INTO THE SHOP. OVER THIS PAST YEAR, THE JEEP WOULD JUST START SHAKING VIOLENTLY AT ABOUT 55 MPH EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE. THIS LAST TIME, I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, TURNED OFF THE JEEP AND TRIED AGAIN, ONLY TO HAVE IT START SHAKING VIOLENTLY AGAIN. THIS IS A MAJOR ISSUE THAT NEEDS ADDRESSED. I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED AS THERE WERE VEHICLES ON THE FREEWAY ALL AROUND ME. I COULD BARELY CONTROL THE VEHICLE TO PULL IT OFF THE ROAD. THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE STEERING STABILIZER, THE CALIPERS, AND THE ROTORS TO ALLEVIATE THE PROBLEM. INTERESTINGLY, WHEN I WALKED IN TO TALK TO THEM, THEY KNEW EXACTLY WHAT IT WAS AS THEY HAVE HAD SIMILAR COMPLAINTS THAT NEEDED REPAIRS FOR THE SAME VEHICLE AND PROBLEM FROM OTHER CUSTOMERS. ON MAY 29TH OF 2014 I WAS DRIVING MY 2008 JEEP WRANGLER DOWN A 4 LANE CITY STREET AT ABOUT 3000 RPM. I HAD JUST TAKEN OFF FROM A RED LIGHT WHEN I HEARD A LOUD EXPLOSION THAT RESULTED IN A FIRE UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. THE GAS TANK EXPLODED AND THE FIRE COVERED THE BOTTOM OF THE ENTIRE VEHICLE. THERE WAS DAMAGE UNDER THE HOOD ON THE ENGINE SIDE OF THE FIREWALL ON WHAT APPEARED TO BE FUEL LINES. LUCKILY THERE WAS A QUICK RESPONSE BY THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WHO QUICKLY EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE, BUT MY JEEP HAS BEEN RENDERED UN-DRIVABLE. I HAVE CONTACTED BOTH CHRYSLER AND THE DEALERSHIP BUT NOT ASSISTANCE THERE. THE CHRYSLER INVESTIGATION TEAM WOULD NOT EVEN TAKE A LOOK AT THE FUEL LINES THE MARSHAL DETERMINED STARTED THE FIRE. I BOUGHT THE 2008 JEEP WRANGLER IN SEPTEMBER 2007. I FOLLOW THE SERVICE MANUAL AND TAKE MY JEEP FOR EVERY SCHEDULED SERVICE AT THE JEEP DEALERSHIP. MY JEEP STARTED FAILING TO START IN 2010. I REPORTED THE ISSUE AT MY 36,000 MILE SERVICE ON 23 NOVEMBER 2010 AND WAS TOLD THAT THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT COULD NOT ISOLATE THE PROBLEM. I HAVE REPORTED THIS ISSUE ON SEVERAL SERVICES BUT WAS ALWAYS TOLD THAT THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT COULD NOT ISOLATE THE ISSUE. FINALLY WHEN I TAKE THE JEEP IN FOR THE 72,000 MILE SERVICE THE FAULT WAS IDENTIFIED AND IS CURRENTLY UNDER REPAIR. IF THIS HAS BEEN A KNOWN ISSUE WHY WAS I NOT NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM BY JEEP. I HAVE BEEN STRANDED ON MORE THAT ONE OCCASION BECAUSE THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START AND I HAVE BEEN DRIVING AROUND FOR FOUR YEARS WITH A TIPM THAT COULD HAVE FAILED CAUSING INJURY TO ME OR MY FAMILY. FROM ONLINE FORUMS ON JEEP I FOUND THIS TO BE A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM. IT WAS SUGGESTED TO PUT THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION IN THE NEUTRAL POSITION AND TRY. IF IT STARTS, THE PROBLEM IS A FAULTY TRANSMISSION RANGE SENSOR. PUTTING IT NEUTRAL WHEN THIS OCCURS, HAS STARTED THE ENGINE THE FIRST TRY DOZENS OF TIMES FOR ME. I TOOK THE JEEP TO THE DEALER, GAVE THEM THIS INFORMATION WHICH THEY IGNORED. THEY REPLACED A SOLENOID CABLE INSTEAD. THE PROBLEM CONTINUED. RETURNED TO THE DEALER FOR ANOTHER DIAGNOSTIC, THEY KEPT THE VEHICLE FOR 2 DAYS WHILE I RENTED A VEHICLE. NOTHING WAS FOUND OR FIXED IN THEIR DIAGNOSTIC WHEN I PICKED IT UP. THE PROBLEM CONTINUES, IT DID IT TODAY TWICE 6/25/2014, BUT STILL STARTS IN NEUTRAL FOR NOW. THE SUGGESTED TRANSMISSION RANGE SENSOR WOULD BE COVERED IN MY LIFETIME POWERTRAIN WARRANTY. ON THE 2008 JEEP WRANGLER (LHD) DASHBOARD, THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT FLASHES ON EVERY OTHER MINUTE WITH A CHIME, AN INDICATION THAT THERE IS SOMETHING MALFUNCTIONING OR INTERFERING WITH THE VEHICLE'S AIRBAGS.THIS HAS BEEN A RECURRING ISSUE AND CONCERN FOR MANY 2008 JEEP WRANGLER (LHD) OWNERS, INCLUDING MYSELF, AND HAS BEEN SHOWN TIME AND TIME AGAIN TO BE CAUSED BY A FAULTY CLOCKSPRING WITHIN THE VEHICLE'S STEERING WHEEL. RATTLING NOISE UNDER THE BODY-TURNED OUT THE WELD ON THE HEAT SHIELD NNEDED TO BE REWELDED BRAKE LINES WERE BEING RUBBED THROUGH BY THE TIRES-NEW BRAKE LINES HAD BEEN UPDATED TO STEEL AND ROUTE CLOSE TO THE BODY INSTEAD OF RUBBER ONES THAT ROUTE CLOSE TO THE TIRE "HOT OIL" LIGHT COMES ON. DEALERSHIP SAID TO ADD AN ADDITIONAL TRANSMISSION COOLER AS THE FACTORY ONE IS INSUFFICIENT. TMPS LOW TIRE LIGHT AND SENTRY KEY LIGHT COME ON AND OFF TOGETHER REPEATEDLY. IN PARK THE LIGHTS WOULD FLASH, HONR HONKS, WINDSHIELD WIPERS FRONT IN BACK WOULD TURN ON AND SRPAY FLUID, CLICKING NOISE AND BURNING SMELL FROM FUSE BOX, FAN AND ACCESSORIES WOULD RUN WITHOUT BEING TURNED ON. AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT IN INSTRUMENT PANEL CONSISTENTLY GOES OFF DURING IRREGULAR SPEED, STEERING WHEEL OPERATION, AND TEMPERATURE. THERE IS NO PATTERN THAT CORRELATES WITH THE TIMING OF THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT. WHEN IT FIRST STARTED, IT WOULD ONLY COME DURING AT BRIEF MOMENTS AND TURN OFF AGAIN. NOW, APRIL, IT TURNS OFF AFTER VEHICLE START (LIKE NORMAL OPERATION), COMES BACK ON IMMEDIATELY, AND ONLY BRIEFLY DOES IT TURN OFF AT RANDOM TIMES. THE MAJORITY OF THE TIME THE WARNING LIGHT FLUCTUATES IS DURING STEERING WHEEL TURNING. TURNING TO ONE PARTICULAR SIDE DOES NOT ALTER THE LIGHT MORE THAN THE OTHER. SOMETIMES HARD BUMPS IN THE ROAD OR OFF-ROAD SCENARIOS WILL CHANGE THE LIGHT TOO. KNOWING VERY WELL THIS COULD BE THE CLOCKSPRING, NO OTHER LIGHTS OR FUNCTIONS INVOLVED WITH THIS DEVICE CONFIRM THIS IS THE PROBLEM. THE HORN WORKS AT ALL TURNING ANGLES, ESP AND ABS ALL FUNCTION NORMALLY. THERE ARE ALSO NO DTC CODES FROM THE COMPUTER. ALL VISIBLE ELECTRICAL PLUGS IN THE CABIN AND BEHIND DASH HAVE BEEN UNPLUGGED, CLEANED FROM DEBRIS AND RECONNECTED. I FIND THE CURRENT RECALL FOR ONLY THE 2007S AND RIGHT HAND DRIVE 2008S VERY FRUSTRATING! THE ASSUMPTION THAT ONLY RHDS WILL HAVE THEIR WINDOWS DOWN MORE ON DIRT ROADS MIGHT BE FACTUAL; HOWEVER, THERE ARE NUMEROUS OF 2008 JEEP WRANGLER OWNERS THAT USE THEIR VEHICLE FOR WORK, OR OFF-ROAD SCENARIOS THAT WILL EASILY BYPASS THE RHD ASSUMPTION. THE FIRST OF MANY TIMES HAPPENED ONE MORNING AS I WAS GETTING INTO VEHICLE. THE HORN, WINDSHIELD WIPERS, LIGHTS AND INSTRUMENT INDICATOR LIGHTS ALL ACTIVATED. THE WIPERS SPRAYED ALL THE FLUID IN THE RESERVOIR. I COULD NOT TURN THESE OFF. AFTER DISCONNECTING THE BATTERY, THE ENGINE WOULD NOT CRANK FOR SOME TIME AND THE HORN NO LONGER WORKED. THE DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A FAULTY HORN AND REPLACED THE CLOCKSPRING, HORN AND A FUSE. A FEW WEEKS LATER, WHILE DRIVING, THE HORN, WIPERS AND LIGHTS ALL CAME ON AND I COULD NOT TURN THESE OFF! EVEN AFTER REMOVING THE KEY, THE ENGINE AND ALL THE ABOVE WOULD NOT SHUT OFF! ONCE AGAIN, I HAD TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY IN ORDER TO SHUT THESE COMPONENTS OFF. THIS HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES SINCE! NOW THE AIRBAG LIGHT COMES ON PERIODICALLY! THE DEALERSHIP IS NOW SAYING THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE TIPM. THERE SEEMS TO BE A BACKORDER OF MORE THAN 400+ OF THESE COMPONENTS. EVERY WEEK THAT GOES BY, THE DEALERSHIP SAYS THAT THE ETA HAS BEEN MOVED BACK A WEEK AND THEY WILL CALL ME WHEN IT GETS IN. TO THE DEALER'S CREDIT (AFTER I WENT A LITTLE CRAZY IN THE MANAGER'S OFFICE), THEY HAVE AGREED TO PAY FOR THE EST. COST OF $600. BUT, IN THE MEANTIME, IS THIS VEHICLE SAFE TO DRIVE? SHOULDN'T THERE BE A RECALL SINCE THERE ARE 400+ OF THESE PARTS ON BACKORDER? TODAY, I CALLED CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY WOULD DOCUMENT THIS. NOT GOOD ENOUGH! AFTER MONTHS OF OVERNIGHT STAYS WITH THE DEALERSHIP; A NUMBER OF ELECTRICAL PARTS WERE REPLACED IN AN ATTEMPT TO RESOLVE INTERMITTENT STARTING ISSUES. DURING THE LAST VISIT THE TIPM STOPPED RESPONDING WHILE THE TECH WAS CHECKING FOR ERROR CODES. THE TECH DETERMINED THAT IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND WAS THE LIKELY SOURCE OF THE ISSUES GIVEN IT'S COMPLEX BUILD AND IT'S ROLL IN THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. I OWN A JEEP TOUR COMPANY AND THIS IS THE THIRD CLOCKSPRING I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE IN TWO DIFFERENT JEEPS. WHILE TRAVELING AT 5MPH OR UNDER THE AIRBAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED. AFTER HAVING THE DEALER CHECK IT OUT I WAS ADVISED IT WAS A CLOCKSPRING ISSUE. I REPLACED THIS ONE ON MY OWN. THEY CHARGE $1450 JUST TO CHECK WHAT PART, THEN $280 FOR THE PART. THIS HAS BEEN DONE AT TTO SEPERATE LOCAL DEALER SHIPS. I HAVE SAVED TWO CLOCKSPRINGS, ONE DONE FROM A 2007 JEEP AND ONE FROM THIS 2008.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE THE AIR CONDITIONER WAS ACTIVATED, A BURNING RUBBER ODOR EMITTED FROM THE VENTS AS THE IGNITION FAILED. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD FREQUENTLY FAIL TO IMMEDIATELY START. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS BUT THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO LOCATE A FAILURE CODE. THE DEALER WIPED AND SPRAYED THE VENTS, BUT THE BURNING ODOR WAS STILL PRESENT AND THE STARTING FAILURE PERSISTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 44,000. UPDATED 09/15/11*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED SHE NOTICED A CHEMICAL, FUEL LIKE BURNING RUBBER SMELL. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 JEEP WRANGLER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT INTERMITTENTLY, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO ADVISED THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS NOT PROPERLY CONNECTING IN ORDER TO START THE VEHICLE. THE IGNITION SWITCH AND GROUND WIRES WERE REPLACED. THE FAILURE DID NOT PERSIST HOWEVER, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD EXHIBIT SIGNS OF HESITATION AND STUTTERING INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES BUT TO NO AVAIL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND WAS ABLE TO REACH A SETTLEMENT TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000.
