Had to have vehicle toed on flatbed. Yes, Insurance said they will not cover catastrophic failure of the steering or the damage. No warnings other than dramatic front-end vibration that broke off the metal bracket.

Due to the failure, the contact had the vehicle towed to a dealer where they were initially unable to diagnose the failure. After a technician test drove the vehicle and successfully duplicated the failure, the dealer diagnosed that the steering damper and the driver’s side front wheel bearing needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure and denied any knowledge of the "death wobble". The vehicle remained in the possession of the dealer and had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 55,000.

INSPECTION PASSED. 3/09/13 AS I TRAVELED OUT OF TOWN WITH MY CHILDREN WE EXPERIENCED A FRIGHTENING AND STRESSFUL TIME. I SAT ON THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY FOR ALMOST A HALF HOUR BEFORE I HAD THE COURAGE TO CONTINUE MY JOURNEY. MY YOUNGER ADULT CHILDREN AND HUSBAND DO NOT LIKE TO DRIVE MY JEEP BECAUSE OF THIS WOBBLE/JERKY EXPERIENCE AFTER A BUMP/EVEN ROAD. THEY DON'T FEEL SAFE. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM, BEFORE SOMEONE IS INJURED OR KILLED. *TR
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY I HIT A BUMP AND EXPERIENCED THE "DEATH WOBBLE" WHERE YOUR CAR SHAKES OUT OF CONTROL AND YOU HAVE TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP TO MAKE THE FRONT END STOP SHAKING. I HAVE TAKEN MY JEEP INTO HAVE THIS FIXED MORE THAN ONCE. THEY CLAIM THEY HAD TO CALL THE COOPERATE OFFICE BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THE "DEATH WOBBLE" THEY SAID THEY FIXED IT AND THEN ABOUT A MONTH LATER DID THE SAME THING. THE ONLY WAY TO STOP THIS IS TO HIT THE BRAKES AND HOPE THAT YOU DO NOT HAVE TO STEER THE CAR SINCE YOU CANNOT WHEN THIS OCCURS. MY JEEP (WITH 37,000 MILES ON IT) STARTED TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY. THE STEERING WHEEL WAS ALMOST UNCONTROLLABLE AND THE TIRES WERE LOSING CONTACT WITH THE ROAD.
