The contact owns a 2013 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that after her husband had arrived at his destination, upon returning to the vehicle and attempting to start the vehicle, the vehicle failed to restart. The vehicle was eventually able to restart and returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. The contact stated that the failure seemed to occur after driving the vehicle for longer than 45 minutes to one hour. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure Safety Recall J30. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 92,000.

The contact owns a 2013 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated while driving approximately 30 MPH, while depressing the accelerator pedal the vehicle failed to respond. The contact stated that it felt as if the transmission had seized. The contact stated that the RPM was revving however, the vehicle failed to respond. The contact stated there was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that during a state inspection, the contact was informed that the passenger’s side rear axle shaft seal was leaking. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 116,000.

When driving approximately 45 mph and above the entire car starts to violently shake. I don't know what part causes this problem. I've heard it could be : steering damper, ball joints, tie rods, track bar, front suspension damper cause this. IDK. Until I can afford to take it to a service shop and get it checked and repaired, it sits parked because I'm afraid to drive it. This started about a month ago. Jeep (Stellantis) should be recalling and repairing ALL Wranglers with this problem not just newer models. My car has LOW miles but somehow got excluded from the lawsuit settlement apparently which is going by model years. This is a safety issue.

The oil cooling housing. There was sludge around it and the lines from below the jeep ruptured. causing oil to leak all over the transmission bell. This caused smoking and over all engine. My dad a certified ASE mechanic has looked at it multiple times and fixed various components related to the cooling/heating system.

ABS and check engine light. I am a rural mail carrier, because my ABS light is on it causes my jeep to not accelerate pulling away from mailboxes therefore putting myself and other drivers at risk. The problem has been reproduced at the dealer. Warning lights illuminated at 19687 miles and are still on to this day, no resolution from Jeep. Jeep engineer came to dealership and could not say what was wrong with vehicle.

I WAS LEAVING A GROCERY STORE AND AS I WAS TURNING ONTO THE BUSY MAIN ROAD MY JEEP WRANGLER SAHARA UNLIMITED STALLED WITH NO WARNING NO LIGHTS IT JUST DIED IT WOULD NOT START AT ALL. AFTER 20 MINUTES IT THEN STARTED. IT WAS VERY DANGEROUS BECAUSE THE PERSON BEHIND ME COULD HAVE HIT ME IF THERE WASN'T ANY OTHER TRAFFIC. THIS HAS HAPPENED BEFORE AT TRAFFIC LIGHTS WHERE IT WOULD STALL OUT OF NO WHERE BUT THEN I COULD TURN THE KEY AND IT WOULD START. I AM TERRIFIED TO GET ON THE HIGHWAY AFRAID IT WILL DO THAT AGAIN AND HARM ME OR OTHERS ON THE ROAD.

I WAS IN MOTION ON HIGHWAY AT 60MPH DASH LIGHTS AND RADIO WENT OFF, THE ENGINE WENT OFF FOR ABOUT 3 SECONDS THEN EVERYTHING CAME BACK TO NORMAL. THIS OCCURRED 3 TIMES IN THE NEXT 10 MINUTES. EACH OCCURANCE WAS THE SAME. RAN FINE AFTER THAT FOR 30 MINS. HAS NOT REOCCURED. TOTAL SHUT DOWN IS DANGEROUS. I HAVE HEARD REPORTS OF THIS HAPPENING TO MANY JEEPS.

WHENEVER THE VEHICLE GOES FASTER THAN 70 MPH...POWER IS LOST. IT CONTINUALLY THROWS OFF A CODE OF 0369. THE DEALERSHIP HAS REPLACED THE FOLLOWING TO TRY TO FIX THE PROBLEM: REPLACED ABS SYSTEM; REPLACED STABILITY CONTROL SYSTEM; REPLACED OIL FILTER HOUSING; REPLACED THE CAM TWICE; SWAPPED THE CAM; REPLACED THE CAM PHASER; REPLACED ALL 4 CAM PHASERS; RE-FLASHED THE PCM; REPLACED THE PCM. TODAY IT GOES IN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR THE 10TH TIME TO TRY TO GET IT FIXED. IT IS A DEATH TRAP TO ALL THAT SHARE THE ROAD WITH IT, NOT TO MENTION EXTREMELY UNRELIABLE. IT HAS NEVER BEEN OFF-ROADED AND IS WELL MAINTAINED.

I WAS DRIVING WITH MY CHILDREN IN THE JEEP TO A DENTAL APPOINTMENT DRIVING 45 MILES PER HOUR. I HEAR A CLING CLUNK SOUND AND ABS LIGHT COMES ON AND THEN A LOUD BANG AND JEEP DOES NOT WANT TO GO. I PULLED OVER RIGHT AWAY I SMELL A AWFUL SMELL. SO I SHUT MY TRUCK OFF. CALLED MY HUSBAND AND LEAVE MY TRUCK AND GET A RIDE TO DENTAL APPOINTMENT. WE CALLED A TOW TRUCK NEXT DAY TO HAVE IT TOWED TO AUTO REPAIR SHOP. I GET A CALL TWO DAYS LATER STATING MY EMERGENCY BREAK SYSTEM HAD FAULTED AND ENGAGED IT'S SELF SNAPPING MY AXEL, SPEED SENSOR AND BREAK ROTOR. ALL OF THESE THINGS WERE RIPPED AND EVERYTHING WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO EMERGENCY BREAK SYSTEM FAILURE. IF I HAD BEEN GOING ON THE HIGH WAY AT HIGH WAY SPEEDS I COULD HAVE FLIPPED MY VEHICLE WITH ME AND MY CHILDREN. THIS ISSUE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED BY THE MANUFACTURER DO TO IT BEING FAULTY EMERGENCY BRAKE SYSTEM.

I PULLED INTO PARKING SPACE, FOOT ON BRAKE,( ZERO SPEED NATURALLY) AS I STARTED TO MOVE SHIFTER FROM DRIVE TO PARK, THE ENGINE ROARED AND JEEP ACCELERATED UP OVER CURB AND ~ 20FT TILL I HIT THE CORNER OF THE LA FITNESS BUILDING ( MY DESTINATION) ALL THE TIME WITH MY FOOT DEPRESSED VERY HARD ON THE BRAKE. DAMAGING FRONT BUMPER, GRILL , HEADLIGHT AND WINDSHIELD ON LEFT CORNER (DRIVER SIDE). I DEPLOYED ALL MY STRENGTH TO BRAKE DURING EVENT WITH NO EFFECT, TURNED OFF CAR, AND PUT IT IN PARK. THE CONTACT ALSO MENTIONED THAT THE RPMS FAILED TO INCREASE. THE CONTACT TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE FOR THE INDICATORS TO DIM. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO FEENY CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM OF MIDLAND (7400 EASTMAN AVE, MIDLAND, MI 48642) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND THERE WAS CORROSION IN THE TOTALLY INTEGRATED POWER MODULE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED A YEAR LATER. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE STARTER WAS REPLACED AND THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEABLE FOR TWO DAYS; HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED CONTINUOUSLY. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO RESTART. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND THEY STATED THAT THE FUEL PUMP MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,521.

THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION AND THE CLUTCH DOES NOT FULLY DISENGAGE IF THE VEHICLE IA SITTING THE CLUTCH WILL DISENGAGE ON ONE OUT OF THREE PUMPS OF THE CLUTCH.

IT STARTS AGAIN AFTER SITTING ABOUT 5-10 MINUTES OR DISCONNECTING THE BATTERY AND SEEMS TO DRIVE FINE OTHERWISE. NO LIGHTS GO OFF, IT JUST DIES AND I LOOSE POWER STEERING. THIS HAS HAPPENED IN LOWER GEARS AS WELL AS HIGHER. THE DEALERSHIP STATES THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM AND ADVISED ME THAT THEY WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO DO MUCH SINCE NO DASH LIGHTS GO OFF. I HAVE BOUGHT A CODE READER AND NO CODES ARE THROWN. IT HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY DOING 65-70 MPH WHILE IN THE MIDDLE LANE. THE CAR LITERALLY JUST SHUTS OFF WITH NO NOTICE. MY FAMILY COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED! IN SHORT...CAR WAS MOVING THEN SHUT DOWN FOR NO REASON.

WHEN THIS HAPPENS THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS NOT COMING ON SO THEY CAN'T DIAGNOSE IT. THIS TYPICALLY HAPPENS WHEN IN REVERSE OR WHEN COMING TO A STOP IN DRIVE. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES IN TRAFFIC. I AM AFRAID THIS WILL CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. THE REASON I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP, I WAS IN TRAFFIC AT A STOPLIGHT AND IT STALLED ON ME 5 TIMES BEFORE I COULD GET IT TO KEEP RUNNING. THIS HAS ALSO HAPPENED WHEN SITTING STILL AND IDOLING. I LOVE MY JEEP AND HAVE WANTED ONE SINCE I WAS A KID. I WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED THAT THE DEALERSHIP WAS NOT ABLE TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I FOUND ONLINE WHERE 2017-18 MODELS WERE HAVING THIS SAME ISSUE. MY WRANGLER IS A 2013 SPORT UNLIMITED. I THINK YOU SHOULD CONSIDER LOOKING INTO EXPANDING THIS RECALL TO INCLUDE OLDER YEARS. I AM ASKING FOR YOUR HELP TO FIX THIS ISSUE IN MY JEEP. THE VEHICLE WOULD GO INTO POWER DERATE MODE AND YOU COULDN'T ACCELERATE. HOOKED A DIAGNOSTIC CODE READER TO THE VEHICLE AND FOUND CHRYSLER TROUBLE CODES P0369, P2638, AND C121C. HAD TO DO WITH CAMSHAFT SENSOR, AND TRANSMISSION TORQUE REQUEST BEING DENIED. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY COULDN'T FIND ANY PROBLEM. I HAVE FOUND MULTIPLE PEOPLE ON ONLINE JEEP FORUMS THAT HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE OCCUR. THE DEALERSHIP JUST HAD ME GO AND PICK UP MY VEHICLE EXACTLY AS IT WAS WHEN I BROUGHT IT IN. HOPING TO FIND OUT IF ANYBODY HAD THIS ISSUE AND ACTUALLY GOT IT FIXED. HAD THIS ISSUE OCCUR TWICE. ONE TIME WAS THE DAY THAT I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE 7/28/2018 AND THE SECOND WAS ON MY WAY TO THE DEALERSHIP ON 7/31/2018.

2013 JEEP WRANGLER HAD 72,000 HIGHWAY MILES, NEVER TOWED OR BEAT ON JEEP. WHILE DRIVING AT 70MPH ON HIGHWAY CAR SUDDENLY SWERVED VIOLENTLY TO RIGHT AND LEFT MULTIPLE TIMES, ALMOST FLIPPED OVER. HAD IT TOWED TO BELLE TIRE AND FOUND RIGHT REAR AXEL WENT OUT, AFFECTED CALIPERS AND BRAKES ALL HAD TO BE REPLACED. I WAS LESS THAN 2 MONTHS OUT OF POWERTRAIN, CALLED THEY WONT REIMBURSE SINCE IT WAS NOT REPAIRED AT JEEP DEALER. THE CAR ABS/TRACKTION CONTROL LIGHTS WENT ON, HARDLY WENT FORWARD DUE TO BRAKES LOCKED UP AND SMELLED LIKE IT WAS BURNING, ACTUAL RIGHT REAR RIM TOO HOT TO TOUCH, WOULDN'T EVEN MOVE IN GEAR UNLESS GASSED IT. NEVER HAD A WARNING, REAR BRAKES HAD JUST BEEN REPLACED TWO MONTHS EARLIER.

CAN TAKE UP TO 15 MINUTES TO RESTART ENGINE. ENGINE SOMETIMES APPEARS TO RESTART WITH A TICKING SOUND, HAS NO POWER AND AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION CAN'T BE SHIFTED INTO DRIVE OR REVERSE. OTHER TIMES, ENGINE STARTS AND TRANSMISSION CAN BE SHIFTED INTO DRIVE OR REVERSE, BUT GEARS DO NOT ENGAGE. NUMEROUS EVENTS, AS COMMON AS STALLING EVENTS, INVOLVING SUDDEN AND SOMETIMES VIOLENT SHOCKS TO THE DRIVETRAIN, WHICH HAPPEN AT ALL SPEEDS, USUALLY WHEN ACCELERATING. EVERYONE KNOWS THIS IS A TIPM ISSUE, WITH SERIOUS SAFETY IMPLICATIONS RELATED TO THE POTENTIAL FOR HIGH SPEED REAR END COLLISIONS BY FOLLOWING VEHICLES, THAT CHRYSLER AND THE NHTSA HAVE NOT TAKEN ADEQUATE ACTION TO REMEDY EXCEPT ON LIMITED AFFECTED VEHICLE TYPES. SUBSTANTIAL INFORMATION EXISTS ON THIS KNOWN ISSUE, INCLUDING INFORMATION AND DOCUMENTATION SUBMITTED TO CHRYSLER AND NHTSA. PRIOR TO THAT WORK WAS PERFORMED ON THE TRANSMISSION, SUPPOSEDLY, WHICH ALSO DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM? PRIOR TO THE CURRENT SYMPTOMS, TWO UNEXPLAINED DEAD BATTERY EVENTS OCCURRED. NOW, READILY FOUND INFORMATION SHOWS A LINK WITH TIPM AND FUEL PUMP RELAY FAILURES THAT ALLOW THE FUEL PUMP TO RUN AND DRAIN THE BATTERY AFTER TURNING OFF THE IGNITION. HOW MANY MORE REPORTS TO NHTSA WILL IT TAKE TO RESPONSIBLY ADDRESS THIS VERY SERIOUS POTENTIAL REAR COLLISION SAFETY ISSUE RELATED TO THE TIPM?

I HAVE DID MY OWN RESEARCH AND FOUND THIS IS A VERY COMMON ISSUE WITH THIS YEAR OF WRANGLER. MANY HAVE HAD THE SAME COMPLAINT AND DEALER COULDN'T DUPLICATE. MY NEW TO ME, BUT STILL UNDER FACTORY WARRANTY, JEEP WRANGLER SAHARA 2DR, CAUGHT FIRE AND BURNED THE DAY I GOT IT. IT HAD BEEN DRIVEN 250KMS FROM THE JEEP DEALER TO ME, THEN PARKED UNTIL THE EVENING. I TOOK IT FOR A DRIVE FOR ABOUT 40KM WITHOUT INCIDENT, PARKED, AND HAD DINNER WITH A FRIEND. AFTER DINNER, I USED THE REMOTE START TO TEST IT, UNLOCKED IT, AND GOT IN AND DROVE OFF. I STOPPED AT A STORE A MINUTE UP THE ROAD, LEFT IT IDLING, AND CAME OUT TO FIND MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT FLASHING. I CYCLED THE IGNITION, AND THE LIGHT WENT OUT. I PROCEEDED TOWARDS HOME, BUT TWO MINUTES LATER THE LIGHT CAME BACK ON, FOLLOWED BY A VERY LOUD BANG, THEN THEN THE SMOKE FROM THE HOOD. I WAS TRAVELLING AT ABOUT 10KM/HR IN A NEIGHBOUTHOOD HAVING JUST TURNED FROM A STOP. MY VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP, MY PASSENGER AND I JUMPED OUT, CALLED 911, AND WATCHED AS A FIRE COMING FROM WHAT APPEARED TO BE THE PASSENGER SIDE, WITH SOMETHING DRIPPING AND BURNING AS WELL, CONSUMED THE FRONT OF THE JEEP. WHEN ROUTINE MAINTENANCE WAS BEING PERFORMED AT THE DEALER THE TRANSMISSION CASE BROKE AROUND A PORTION OF THE CASE WHERE ONE OF THE TRANSMISSION OIL PAN BOLTED ON. ONE OF THE MECHANICS COMMENTED THAT THIS PORTION OF THE TRANSMISSION CASE APPEARED THIN. THE TRANSMISSION CASE WAS SENT BACK TO THE FACTORY BY THE DEALER. I BELIEVE THIS FAILURE OF THE METAL OF THE TRANSMISSION CASE IS DANGEROUS DUE TO THIS BEING A "TRAIL RATED" VEHICLE AND BEING INTENDED FOR EXPOSURE TO OFF ROAD CONDITIONS AND THIS PART FAILURE BEING ESPECIALLY DANGEROUS UNDER THESE CONDITIONS AND, OF COURSE, IF IT WERE TO FAIL IN REGULAR DRIVING. DUE TO THE SHIFT ARM ASSEMBLY COMING OFF, I MISSED 2ND GEAR AND ENDED UP STUCK IN NEUTRAL. BEFORE I REALIZED EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED I HAD TRAVELED ABOUT 20 YARDS FREEWHEELING. DUE TO THE SPEED INCREASE I HAD TO APPLY MY BRAKES WHICH THEN CAUSED THE JEEP TO SLIDE SIDEWAYS. IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY 6 LANE HIGHWAY, I WAS VERY LUCKY TO GET THROUGH THE TRAFFIC AND ROLL INTO THE MEDIAN. I WAITED 5 MINUTES AND WAS ABLE TO START IT AGAIN. DROVE DIRECTLY TO DEALERSHIP THAT SAID IT WILL TAKE WEEKS TO FIX. ALSO HAVE ISSUE WITH LURCHING TRANSMISSION AT BETWEEN 1500 TO 1600 RPM. IT CLUNKS INTO THE NEXT GEAR. ALSO, GETTING ELECTRICAL ISSUES WITH CIGARRETE LIGHTER. WHEN USING A CHARGER IN CIGARRETE LIGHTER THE RADIO DOES NOT WORK, IT BECOMES JUST STATIC.

THE HILL START ASSIST MALFUNCTIONS CONSTANTLY, THIS CAN STALL THE ENGINE WHEN STARTING OUT IN TRAFFIC AND CAUSE EXCESSIVE WARE ON THE BRAKES AND CLUTCH. THERE ARE 2 SWITCHES THAT TELL THE COMPUTER WHEN THE CLUTCH PEDAL IS PRESSED. ONE WHEN YOU FIRST START TO PRESS IN THE CLUTCH AND ANOTHER THAT TELLS THE COMPUTER WHEN THE CLUTCH IS PRESSED IN ALL THE WAY. THE HILL START ASSIST IS PROGRAMMED TO USE THE SWITCH THAT TELLS THE COMPUTER WHEN YOU FIRST START TO PRESS IN THE CLUTCH INSTEAD OF THE SWITCH THAT TELLS THE COMPUTER WHEN THE CLUTCH PEDAL IS FULLY PRESSED. THIS CAUSES THE BRAKES TO STAY LOCKED UP EVEN AFTER THE CLUTCH IS FULLY ENGAGED WHEN STARTING ON A HILL. THE COMPUTER NEEDS TO BE REPROGRAMMED TO RELEASE THE BRAKES AS SOON AS YOU START TO RELEASE THE CLUTCH PETAL BEFORE THE CLUTCH FULLY ENGAGES. THE HILL START ASSIST SHOULD USE THE SAME SWITCH THAT TELLS THE COMPUTER THE CLUTCH IS FULLY PRESSED WHICH IS THE SAME SWITCH THAT IS USED TO PREVENT THE VEHICLE FROM STARTING IN GEAR AND NOT THE SWITCH THAT TELLS THE COMPUTER WHEN THE PEDAL IS LIGHTLY PRESSED WHICH IS THE SWITCH THAT TURNS OFF THE CRUISE CONTROL. *TR

THE AFFECTED PARTS IN MY 2013 JEEP WRANGLER UNLIMITED IS THE TRANSMISSION (MILEAGE 27,200). THIS EVENT HAS OCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES SINCE THE FIRST TIME IT WAS TAKEN INTO THE DEALERSHIP IN APRIL 2014. I WILL BE DRIVING AND THE VEHICLE WILL NOT SHIFT INTO GEAR (I HAVE AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION). DOESN'T MATTER HOW FAST OR SLOW I AM GOING OR IF I AM ON FLAT AND HILLY ROADS. I WILL HAVE TO PUNCH THE GAS AND ACCELERATE TO 60-65 MPH BEFORE THE GEAR SHIFTS. IT SCARES ME ESPECIALLY WHEN I AM ONLY DRIVING 30-40 MPH. THE RPM'S WILL BE UP TO 5000 AND FINALLY THE VEHICLE WILL SHIFT GEARS. I HAVE ATTEMPTED NUMEROUS TIMES SINCE THEN TO SET UP AN APPOINTMENT AT MY LOCAL JEEP DEALER, BOERNE DODGE CHRYSLER JEEP IN BOERNE TX, TO HAVE THIS RECALL PERFORMED AND I HAVE BEEN TOLD EACH TIME THAT THEY DO NOT HAVE THE PARTS TO DO THIS RECALL. THEY WENT ON TO STATE THAT THEY HAVE RECEIVED, AND CONTINUE TO RECEIVE, A VERY LIMITED NUMBER OF THE PARTS REQUIRED FOR THIS RECALL AND THAT I SHOULD PUT MY NAME ON THEIR WAITING LIST FOR THE RECALL PARTS. THE DEALERSHIP HAS NOT MADE ANY ATTEMPT TO PERFORM THE RECALL EVEN THOUGH I HAVE OFTEN TRIED TO SCHEDULED IT. THEY CONTINUALLY TELL ME THAT THEY CANNOT GET THE REQUIRED PARTS FROM THE FACTORY, BUT WHEN THEY DO THEY WILL CALL ME. THE PROBLEM IS THAT CHRYSLER CORPORATION IS NOT PROVIDING THE DEALERSHIPS WITH THE PARTS NECESSARY TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I HAVE TO SPEND SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF TIME JUST TO LOCATE AND CONTACT THEIR SERVICE MANAGER IN ORDER TO KNOW WHEN MY VEHICLE WILL BE READY FOR PICK UP. I HAVE CONTACTED THE DEALER (QUIRK) WHERE I PURCHASED MY JEEP (BRAND NEW) ON TWO OCCASIONS. I RECEIVED RECALL NOTICE APPROXIMATELY 2 MONTHS AGO. I CONTACTED THE DEALER (BILLY BENDER CHRYSLER JEEP DODGE) WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. THEY STATED THAT THEY HAD ME ON A WAITING LIST TO GET THE REQUIRED PARTS. IT HAS BEEN ONE MONTH WITHOUT NOTICE THAT THE SAFETY RECALL PARTS WERE SUPPOSED TO BE ORDERED SO I CONTACTED THE DEALER AGAIN TO CHECK ON PARTS. DEALER ADVISED ME THAT I WAS CURRENTLY 9TH ON THE LIST TO RECEIVE THE SAFETY RECALL PARTS. HOWEVER, CHRYSLER JEEP WAS ONLY SENDING THE DEALER ONE (1) SET OF PARTS PER MONTH SO IT WOULD BE APPROXIMATELY 9 MONTHS BEFORE THEY WILL HAVE THE PARTS TO FIX MY VEHICLES' SAFETY RECALL. WHILE BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE, I WAS MOVING THE SHIFTER TO REVERSE AND HEARD A CLUNK SOUND. IT WAS NOT A SMOOTH SHIFT. IMMEDIATELY THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I BACKED THE VEHICLE OUT OF SPACE AND MOVE THE AUTOMATIC SHIFTER TO DRIVE AND HEARD ANOTHER CLUNKING NOISE. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYED ON. 2013 JEEP WRANGLER RUBICON, CAUGHT FIRE AFTER COMING OFF OF A HIGHWAY. TRAVELING UNDER 30 MPH, I SAW FLAMES UNDERNEATH THE JEEP BEHIND ME ( MY FRIENDS JEEP ). BY THE TIME I NOTICED IT WAS A BALL OF FLAME. I IMMIDIATELY SLAMED ON THE BRAKES AND WAVED HIM DOWN. HE COULD BARELY STOP BECAUSE HIS BRAKES ALSO WENT OUT( HE SAID THE ABS LIGHT FLIPPED ON) MY OTHER FRIEND JUMPED OUT OF THE VEHICLE I WAS TRAVELING IN AND ATTEMPTED HELP SAID FRIEND IN THE WRANGLER. SAME FRIEND HAD A GIANT BUCKET OF WATER IN HIS BED OF THE TRUCK I WAS DRIVING. I GRABBED IT AND RAN TO THE WRANGLER. I LOOKED UNDERNEATH THE JEEP, THE FLAMES WERE SMALLER AND I COULD SEE THAT THE ORIGIN WAS ON TOP OF THE TRANSMISSION. THERE WAS NOTHING I COULD DO, I DIDN'T HAVE A CUP OR A DEVICE TO SCOOP WATER TO PUT THE FIRE OUT. AT THIS TIME I REALIZED THAT THIS WAS A FORM OF CHEMICAL FIRE. SO WATER WOULD HAVE MADE IT WORSE. WE EVACUATED THE AREA SINCE IT WAS SO CLOSE TO THE GAS TANK. I CALLED THE ON BASE COPS AND THE FIRE TRUCKS WERE THERE WITHIN 10. AT THIS TIME THE INTERRIOR WAS ON FIRE, THEY ATTEMPED TO PUT THE FIRE OUT BUT THE GAS TANK HAD RUPTURED. ABOUT 8 GALLONS OF GAS WAS ON ITS WAY OUT OF THE TANK. IT TOOK 2, 000 GALLONS, 2 TRUCKS, 6 FIRE EXTUINGUISHERS, AND AN UNKNOWN REFILL OF WATER FROM ANOTHER WATER TRUCK TO BOTH FIRE TRUCKS TO PUT THE FIRE OUT! I HAVE 90% OF EVERYTHING ON VIDEO.
