I was driving on I35 on 10/23/2025 when I saw a small spark then my vehicle caught fire and i exited the vehicle called 911 Lewisville Fire Department and was informed that they responded to vehicle fire on 10/23/2025 at 9:45 pm, their case number is 2025-0012175. The representative stated that the Lewisville Police Dept. also completed a report, case number 250068809.
I had repairs done to my Jeep in April 2024. At that time, I was made aware that my ABS control module was faulty and no longer functioning. I have been periodically checking with my mechanic and online to check the status of this part, only to find that it has been an ongoing issue with some models having this part unavailable since 2019. At the end of October 2025, I began having a major safety issue in which my Jeep's engine will shut off without warning and the only reason I will be aware is because the wheel will no longer turn easily (trying to turn without power steering). In addition, there will at times be a fluctuation of power either having a an extreme spike or drop in RPMs causing the Jeep to lurch while driving. The cruise control cannot be used with this issue, and I have also experienced malfunctions in the traction control (i.e. hydroplaning in a very small puddle in the road that a normal car could handle, let alone a Jeep). I have been waiting patiently for a year and a half and there are no updates available for Jeep owners, and the issues caused by this lack of parts could cause fatalities on the road or leave individuals with a very expensive, undrivable vehicle followed by the additional cost of purchasing a new vehicle. This is unacceptable for an extremely large and popular vehicle manufacturer to be unable to come to an agreement with parts manufacturers to resume production of a crucial vehicle part.
Starting in approximately mid 2023 the vehicle began to leak oil. This was noted once the vehicle was parked after driving. There were various amounts of oil pooled underneath the oil filter housing on the ground. At this time it had approximately 70,000 miles. I had to consistently add many quarts of oil to keep the vehicle operating while going to several mechanics to diagnose the problem. There are many instances where a strong burning smell comes from the engine compartment especially when traveling at higher speeds (highway driving). It was determined that the oil filter housing had cracked and was the source of the oil leak. The cost for repair was approximately $800 for labor and the part, having to spend additional money to get a rental car. The mechanics stated that they have had to replace this same part on many other Jeep Wranglers that are the same make/year. The mechanic did say that another jeep that had the same problem did catch on fire due to the oil running down through the heated engine as this part is made of plastic and situated on the top side of the engine. My Jeep is current on all maintenance and there has been no accident to cause this part to crack. I was made aware that previous models had metal housing, as opposed to plastic hence there not being an issue. By the time we figured out the source of the leak, it was no longer under warranty, so I had the work completed by a local mechanic instead of the dealer. No warnings, not even a low oil pressure or check engine light came on. It was the burning smell and oil loss that made me aware of an issue. Once again, at approximately 100,000 miles it has happened again. The mechanic I originally brought it to is out of business, but the part would be out of warranty regardless. Now I am stuck spending another approximately 1,000 to have it replaced again, with the same part that will inevitably crack again. They really need to recall and replace this part with a metal housing.
The engine in my 2014 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited (3.6L Pentastar V6) suddenly seized without warning at approx. 154,525 miles. The vehicle stalled while in motion, causing immediate loss of power and creating a dangerous situation where I could have been struck by other traffic. This was a major safety hazard. The Jeep was towed to a dealership, where technicians confirmed the engine is seized and provided a written estimate of about $12,000 for full engine replacement. I later had the vehicle towed back to my home, but the failed engine remains in the vehicle and is available for inspection upon request. The problem has been reproduced and confirmed by the authorized Jeep service center. Jeep/Stellantis Customer Care has also been contacted, and a case has been opened.Decline goodwill assistance. There were no warning lamps, messages, or prior symptoms before the failure. The vehicle was operating normally until the sudden stall. This lack of warning combined with the engine seizure placed my safety and the safety of others at risk. I believe this issue is part of a known defect pattern with the 3.6L Pentastar engine, which has been subject to numerous complaints, service bulletins, and litigation. A well-maintained Jeep engine should not fail catastrophically at this mileage without warning.
My 2014 jeep wrangler unlimited started throwing the motor in limp mode. Had it checked out and it's the TIPM and the wiring harness. As I dug into that some 2014 jeeps already have a recall on this. But I cannot find on my VIN. Could this be a needed recall that this jeep needs to be added too? Help please.almost caused an accident 3 different times throwing a brand new motor into limp mode
In 2020 and 2025, Oil Coolant Housing cracked and failed. First incident happened on the way to an oil change. Certified Mechanic found oil covering entire undercarriage and engine, and notified me this was a severe fire and safety hazard. Replaced with an OEM Housing from dealership. 2025, same failure. Found by another Certified Mechanic while researching check engine light. Replaced with a metal Housing. Getting a P0303 and P0305 error code. Recorded over 300 misfires in 2 days. Replaced all spark plugs, coil packs and fuel injector in #5. No improvement in performance, continued coding. While returning to Mechanic, had a strong burning smell and smoke coming out from under the hood. Coolant was covering entire engine compartment and undercarriage. Mechanic notified me the Coolant was flowing through the engine and exiting out the #5 cylinder. Diagnosed failure of head gasket and engine. Driving vehicle causes smoke under hood, some in passenger compartment and strong burning smell. Recommended replacing engine as complete failure is imminent and is a safety and fire hazard.
In the 9 years I have owned my Jeep I have now replaced the oil filter housing twice. Each time has caused me over $300 just for the part, which is PLASTIC from the dealership to my mechanic then over $1000 to install. My mechanic explained to me that when plastic is heated then cold with oil it will eventually crack. This then drips on the exhaust which causes either smoke through the vents or a small fire eventually. This needs a recall.
The oil filter housing developed a leak which lead to excessive amounts of oil spilling on the exterior of the engine which could cause a fire.
Starting in March of 2024 the vehicle began to leak copious amounts of oil. This was noted once the vehicle was parked after driving. It was anywhere from the size of a half dollar to a dinner plate size of oil pooled underneath the oil filter housing on the ground. At this time the Jeep had approximately 103,000 miles. While diagnosing the issue, I had to consistently add many quarts of oil to keep the vehicle operating. During the diagnosis stage, there were many instances where a strong burning smell became obvious from the engine compartment. After consulting with two independent certified mechanics, it was determined that the oil filter housing had become compromised and was the source of the oil leak. The cost for repair was $175 for the part and $950 for labor, plus $200 for a rental. Both mechanics that diagnosed the issue advised they both had replaced this same part on many other Jeep Wrangler JK between the years of 2014-16. While the burning smell was indicative of a possible fire at some point, one mechanic did say one other jeep that had this part fail did catch on fire due to the oil running down through the heated engine as this part is made of plastic and situated on the top side of the engine. Fires were most certainly a life safety concern as this is my primary vehicle for myself and children. The vehicle had all of its maintenance current and properly done, there was no accident or incident to cause this part to crack other than a poor design with cheap parts. The oil clean up during the fix was extensive as it had pooled and ran into multiple locations on the engine. I did not have the vehicle inspected by the manufacturer as it was no longer under warranty and it would have cost even more to have them do the work. No warnings, not even a low oil pressure or check engine light came on. It was the burning smell and oil loss that was visibly noted that identified an issue.
Engine oil cooler/filter housing. Developed oil leak by being placed under manifold. Took it to dealer, Flow, confirmed bad oil leak in item mentioned. They replaced the mentioned part. Bad oil leaks can cause engine fire. Not sure it is available for view at dealer. Cost was over $1300. Mileage was about 93000.

Engine started chugging at about 30,000 miles and engine light illuminated. The engine light continued to go off and on until about 36,000 miles, at which point it stayed on. Brought to dealership and and they did a leak down test on the left side cylinder. It was found that cylinder 2 had a 65% compression loss. This engine is a Pentastar 3.6l v6 that was part of a recall for 2011-2013 models. Apparently Mopar still installed these engines in later years but are refusing to foot the bill for them. I worked with Customer Support and they flat out refused to help me.
My Jeep only has 60,000 and I already have to replace the oil cooler on it. This causes the radiator fluid to leak and overheated my car. This could cause major damage to my engine and its components. This would also cause the oil to leak into my coolant reservoir. It’s a major defect by Jeep and needs modifications.
The Jeep oil cooler will leak from factory. It will cause the engine to cease working causing the vehicle to stop. The dealer said this would happen. There were no warning signs, just the smell of burning oil.
Driving sometimes with cruise on and sometimes not or going up a slight inclined the car will lose RPM goes down and then back up. I Was merging on to a highway went to give it gas and RPM goes down and I had 2 semis coming up on me so had to pull over to shoulder. It is very unsafe because you just dont know when it is going to do it. Have had it in to dealership computer and no code. But very very frustrating. They have put computer on and drove around and of course it wouldnt do it. We are at our end of the rope we don't know what to do. Service dept just said if it doesn't throw a code cant do anything. I guess when we get hit they wiil do something.
There needs to be a recall on the 2014 Jeep wrangler oil filter housing immediately. My Jeep has the Pentastar oil filter housing used in these vehicles can crack and warp due to heat exposure and this can lead to serious oil leaks. Despite knowing about this issue, the company has never issued a recall, instead, they have discontinued the production of the Pentastar and redesigned the oil filter housing for newer vehicle models. My jeep was pouring out oil and the red oil light turned on. I immediately had my jeep towed to the dealer . They had already "fixed" this issue two times previously. It is beyond comprehension that this has not been a manufacturer recall. It is extremely dangerous.

The check engine warning light was illuminated intermittently, and the infotainment system failed to turn on. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the oil sensor pressure circuit was replaced due to an internal short in the oil-sending unit. Additionally, the PCM software was updated, and the infotainment system was replaced. The contact also stated that the fuel gauge provided inaccurate readings and would not read that the fuel tank was full. The vehicle was taken to the dealer twice for fuel gauge failure. The dealer performed a PCM software update for fuel sender recalibration and replaced the fuel pump module. The contact stated that the traction control warning light illuminated intermittently, and the vehicle was taken to the dealer, who replaced an unknown sensor. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle was experiencing an electrical draw, and the battery was replaced four times. The vehicle was taken to the second dealer McCord's - Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram (990 Tennant Way, Longview, WA 98632) where it was diagnosed that the electrical draw was due to a failure of the instrument cluster electrical wiring or a failure of the electrical wiring underneath the dashboard. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but did not provide any assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 46,000.

The plastic oil filter housing cracked. So many have cracked you can’t find one to replace it. Metal ones are being made but can’t find those either. It’s a HUGE problem and with minivans.also. They need to recall all the plastic oil filter housing units.
Oil Filter Housing cracked. Oil pools on top of engine and under intake manifold. Oil runs down the right side of engine - taking out an oxygen sensor in the process as the wiring harness gets soaked in oil. Oil ran down onto transmission and exhaust manifolds creating odor and a lot of smoke - not to mention the oil all over my driveway and street. Evidently, this is a known problem to the manufacturer. It is reported hundreds of times on this site and thousands of times on various internet sites. Clearly there are manufacturing problems that are at fault and creating serious safety and economic impacts to owners. Research across various platforms indicates that it is not a matter of "if this will happen," but "when" it will happen. Where is the accountability to the manufacturer? Why is NHTSA NOT doing something to protect the consumer and the public?
Hello my jeeps oil filter housing has been repaired twice it's about 900 both times their needs to be a safety recall it smoke and causes alot of issues this is a poor design and needs attention my jeep is parked until further notice
Oil cooler cracked, very common with this engine. Needs to be a recall. My shop said they were doing around 2 a week? Poor design, plastic mounted to aluminum. It cost me $1285.00 to get this fixed. The engine only has 46000 miles on it. The vehicle has never been off-road and has the oil changed every 3000 miles.
The oil filter housing was cracked and leaking and replaced under warranty a few years back. The same problem is happening again because it is a plastic oil filter housing. Chrysler knows its a defective part. Make them issue a recall please We shouldn't have to pay 800 plus to have it fixed with the same defective part. They're profiting from their mistake.
The oil housing is leaking oil on the engine and exhaust it smells terrible when engine is on , maybe a risk of fire !! Looks like to be a well know important problem at jeep . There should be a recall!! Thx Looks like jerp want 1200$ to fix a known problem!
Oil cooler broke due to being made out of plastic. I had to have a new one installed made out of metal. Labor and parts were 855.00. I don’t think this should have happened both engine and driveway are covered in oil?
Warped and leaking oil filter housing. The housing is made of plastic and unsuitable for this use. Newer models they have corrected this and the housings are made of aluminum. Mine is plastic and very unsafe. Having leaking oil is an enviromental and safety hazard. Jeep refuses to repair this issue even though it is a well know problem for all Penstar engies with the plastic housing. The leaking housing was brought to my attention during a normal oil change.
I smell burning oil in my vehicle after short or extended drives and discovered that this issue was widely reported for 2014 Jeep Wanglers. The fumes have the potential to diminish my health and should be addressed immediately.
Greetings, My 2014 Jeep Wrangler has developed a ticking sound that is progressively getting worse. I have addressed this with my professional mechanic and noted to me after checking the engine that there is an issue with the engine and Chrysler knows about it yet no recall has been published. The issue has to do with the 3. 6l Pentastar engine is notorious for having a camshaft or lifter go bad. The answer is apparently to replace the headers. I have contacted Customer service at Chrysler and they are now claiming not to know about it. My mechanic stated that repairs can run about $2000. I would appreciate it if you would appropriately deal with this and inform me on the outcome. At approx 45,000 miles the rocker arm bearing failed causing a ticking noise in the engine. Upon researching this issue, I have found multiple complaints and confirmation that this issue is due to poor manufacturing.
The antilock brake module shorted out causing the line to melt and shut down my vehicle
The vehicle stalls, losing power steering and brakes in the middle of the road. It is critical to have this addressed before someone dies in a wreck. It also over heats to the point it will catch on fire.

Oil cool on the top of the motor failed filling top of motor with oil and spilling over in back and front. This is a very common problem that should be looked at closer could easily get on exhaust causing a potential fire.
2014 jeep wrangler unlimited Sahara oil filter housing fail twice already. Causes oil to leak all over top of engine and then drips onto other components. Could cause fire, could cause engine to sieze, no warning lights to indicate an issue.
Engine oil cooler failed. No warning lights or chimes. Problem found by smell of burning oil covering the intake valley and drainage from there onto the exhaust pipe throughout the underside of the vehicle. Can result in a vehicle fire.This is a known problem with the 3.6l jeep engine. This is a costly repair and replacement part of OEM quality or better is difficult to locate because of so many failures.
Oil Filter Housing failed leaking oil onto top of motor and hot exhaust manifold nearly causing a fire and catastrophic engine failure in heavy traffic. Dealer has confirmed this is a known issue on the 3.6 pentastar engines from after 2014. Currently replacement part has a 58000 unit back order. Failed with no warning until oil light and temp lights triggered.
After a short drive to town I could smell oil burning .. Oil was Pouring on the the ground from under my jeep. I was told from the dealer it is a common problem on that motor and it was the OIL COOLER . It was cracked on the plastic part . I had it repaired and it cost me 800$ . There were no warning lamps . If I did not catch the problem in time the motor would have locked up.. the oil hitting the hot manifold could have caught fire .
3.6l Pentastar V6, vehicle had a failed oil cooler housing. This caused the vehicle to leak a considerable amount (more than a quart) of oil into the valley between the cylinder heads, but showed no outward signs of leaking oil. This has the potential to ignite a vehicle fire during operation. Could also potentially cause catastrophic engine failure secondary to oil starvation at highway speeds.
Engine oil leak, front of engine, under/at bottom of oil filter housing. Loss of oil from motor, oil all over under carriage of Jeep, found first on garage floor. Jeep has 62,000 miles on it. Oil on engine, transmission, transfer case and exhaust. Unit smoking, fire hazard. No warning lamps for low oil or low oil pressure.12
Engine light on when change in oil needed @ 50%. Oil pressure fluctuates when driving 2% to 30%. Noticed oil leaks in my driveway and had it checked by mechanic. Found out it was the oil filter housing/oil cooler and that it is a common problem with 3. 6 motor also, found out the part is on back order due to a lot of customers having same issue. Found the following in my search: " ATTENTION - 2014 Wranglers have bad oil leak problems! ________________________________________ For 2014, Chrysler made a change to a part called the "oil filter adapter" which sits on top of the engine, under the intake manifold. There are now a parade of people with various Chrysler vehicles that use the 3.6L reporting that the new part cracks, causing a major oil leak, potentially a fire, and can cause your engine to be drained of all oil. If you have had an oil leak, and the dealership told you the issue was the oil filter adapter, the oil cooler or the oil cooler cover, post up here. We are going to try to get pressure on Chrysler to at least redesign the part. Part number is 68105583AA and it applies only to 2014 3.6L Chrysler V6 engines, at least so far. Similar issues have been reported with the new 3.2L V6 used in the Cherokee, but it apparently has a different part number. This is a MAJOR issue if you own a 2014 Wrangler. There is no way to know if/when the part will crack, and if it does, it is not a trail repair. The adapter is buried under the intake manifold, and ever getting to it with some putty would be nearly impossible. You had better have extra oil with you at all times if you are trail riding a 2014 Wrangler. Post here if you have the issue, and go to safercar.gov and file a complaint. If Chrysler doesn't fix this issue, you will never feel safe wheeling your 2014 Jeep in the backcountry. They need to fix this, NOW. ALL 3.6L vehicles are affected"
Concerning all Jeep Wrangler vehicles with the Pentastar 3.6L V-6 engine. These engines utilize variable valve timing with DOHC’s. Jeep dealers and owners are aware of a very common issue with bearing failures in these assemblies, resulting in damage to the camshafts requiring replacement of all 4 camshafts, 24 hydraulic lifters and 24 rocker assemblies. Approximate labor for this work is $1,220 plus parts cost of approximately $2,770. The issue is signaled by a loud tapping noise from one or both engine banks and typically occurs around or shortly after 80,000 miles though there are a number of reports that can be found where this issue appeared earlier. Jeep technicians diagnose the issue using a stethoscope and automatically assume all components will require replacement without further disassembly or investigation. An internet search will indicate just how prevalent this issue is. My vehicle is currently in the shop and I am told there are currently a total of three Jeep Wrangler Unlimited vehicles in said shop with the SAME issue.
Smelled burning oil coming from the engine bay. Noticed a large amount of oil under the engine. Inspected the engine bay and there was a pool of oil under the oil filter housing. There was no CEL or warning. Checked oil and it was over a quart low. Oil spill under vehicle was large and dissipated in a wide area. A quick web search shows this is a common issue on the Chrysler Pentastar 3.6 engine. It is the OIL COOLANT HOUSING ASSEMBLY which is faulty. This causes oil to spill out and drip on the transmission and exhaust which causes the oil burning smell. There was a backorder on this part and I was informed that over 65K parts were manufactured and sold this past year which demonstrates that this is a known issue. Attempted to have dealership repair but could not book a date for months due to backlog and lack of availability. Took the vehicle to an independent shop that was very familiar with the issue and confirmed it was the oil coolant housing assembly without me mentioning what I thought it was. This was a $975 repair. Contacted manufacturer and they said they could not assist me as I need to take the vehicle to the dealership (only). However, I can't be without my vehicle for 60 days until they are able to "fit me in". Concerned about the burning of oil on the exhaust from a safety/fire perspective.
Oil Filter assembly (FCA Pentastar 3.6L) started leaking oil and poured out over the back of the engine and got on the rear tires causing a loss of control of the vehicle. No warnings were indicated and the event occurred where my wife and others could have been hurt or killed.
This is another complaint about the oil filter and oil cooler assembly problem that's known on the 2014 Wranglers. It's made of plastic (that cracks) with plastic gaskets (that shrink/crack over time). It's a known problem, has been reported by many, especially for vehicles in cold weather areas. Due to the location of the oil cooler assembly, it can't be easily replaced without spending over a thousand dollars and then the dealers don't stand behind or warranty the new part/their install because they know the replacement is just plastic and going to crack again. Oil leaks all over other engine components (transmission, transfer case, etc.), which could cause the vehicle to catch on fire; an accident due to the leaked on components being deteriorated and not working properly from being oil soaked; or cause the engine oil to overheat since the cooling assembly isn't working correctly. Repair requires complete disassembly of the upper engine and the OEM replacement is just another faulty plastic parts. Repairs are extremely costly IF you can even find parts. OEM had to know about this issue---plastic parts are never good and hopefully no one will get hurt because you could be driving a long time before you even know you have a problem.
The oil filter and oil cooler assembly is plastic with plastic gaskets. It will often crack, or the gaskets will shrink/crack over time, particularly in cold weather conditions. This causes oil to leak down onto other components, specifically the transmission, transfer case, etc. in the case of an accident this oil leak and oil soaked components can represent a fire hazard. Also can become an engine oil overheating issue as the oil cooling is not working properly. Repair requires complete disassembly of the air intake system and manufacturer only supplies the same faulty plastic parts. Repair is extremely costly and it is a known defect that has caused many parts shortages.
Issue with lifters ticking at 49k miles
I was driving the vehicle at 30 miles per hour and the engine accelerated to 60 miles per hour on it's own. before I could get it to stop. This occurred on 4 different occasions of the vehicle accelerating on it's own. The vehicle was only able to get under control by stepping on the brake hard placed the vehicle in neutral and shut off the Key. Some one could of been killed. Dealer reported crack in oil cooling housing. A burning oil and coolant smell starting in 2017, while under manufacturer warranty. I was concern that jeep would start a fire and began parking outside. I replace the oil cooler because I noticed a ticking sound. When I went to the dealer they informed the the engine is a total loss and needs to be replaced. Cylinders 1 and 6 failed. $8000 to replace the engine with a refurbished unit which addresses each of Chrysler’s failed 3.6 liter motor. If this manufactures oil cooler and other engine issues, do not need to be addressed, I don’t know what ever would need to be addressed.
My Jeep Wrangler was having significant engine issues with shaking, random noises and vibrations, and it turns out the Engine Oil Cooler had a crack in it and leaked oil all over the intake manifold/under carriage of the vehicle. Upon speaking with over 15 dealerships in Southern California, they noted that there were over 40,000 of this replacement part on back-order as of March 2020. I had to wait two months to get the part delivered, which meant I went two months without a vehicle, and then had to pay over $800+ on a part + labor on an item that should absolutely be recalled. There are thousands of posts on Wrangler Forum and other Jeep pages that share the exact same issue. Jeep has ignored this issue since 2014, and it's only occurring in more vehicles now. This part breaking can cause engine seizure or failure and should not be a cost to the customer as there is CLEARLY a nation-wide problem that Chrysler is ignoring.

IN 2014 MOPAR STARTED USING A PLASTIC OIL FILER / COOLER HOUSING ON THE 3.6 PENSTAR ENGINES. THIS PLASTIC OIL FILER/COOLER HOUSING IS EASY TO CRACK OR DEVELOP OIL LEAKS. THE OIL THEN PUDDLES UP UNDER THE INTAKE MANIFOLD LAYING AGAINST THE HOT ENGINE BLOCK. IT APPEARS TO BE A FAULTY DESIGN THAT COULD RESULT IN ENGINE FIRES OR BREAKDOWNS FROM LOSS OF OIL. THIS IS USED ON LOTS OF DIFFERENT MODELS OF VEHICLES. MINE IS THE 2014 JEEP WRANGLER UNLIMITED. THE OIL LEAKS ANYTIME THE ENGINE IS RUNNING. AFTER THE ENGINE VALLEY IS FULL THE OIL RUNS DOWN THE BACK OF THE ENGINE AND FALLS ON THE TRANSMISSION BELL HOUSING AND EXHAUST PIPE CAUSING BURNING OIL SMELL AND POSSIBLE FIRE HAZARD. THIS PART CRACKS UNDER ROUTINE DRIVING AND LEAKS ENGINE OIL ONTO HOT SYSTEM COMPONENTS, SUCH AS THE EXHAUST CROSS OVER AND TRANSMISSION, WHERE THE OIL BURNS AND CREATES A FIRE HAZARD. MYSELF AND MY PASSENGERS HAVE NOTICED THIS SMOKE BEFORE IT IGNITED. HOWEVER OTHERS HAVE REPORTED A FIRE. THE OIL LEAK GENERALLY OCCURS WHEN THE ENGINE HAS COME UP TO TEMPERATURE AND THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN MOTION LONG ENOUGH TO REACH NORMAL OPERATING OIL PRESSURE AND TEMPERATURE. THE PROBLEM OCCURS IF THE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY OR IN MOTION, REGARDLESS OF ROAD CONDITIONS. THE LEAK IS NOT IMMEDIATELY DETECTED BY A LOW OIL PRESSURE, HIGH TEMPERATURE, OR OTHER SIMILAR WARNING, FURTHER INCREASING THE FIRE RISK. FURTHER, THE LEAKING OIL POSSES AN ENVIRONMENTAL DANGER AND IS HAZARDOUS. PRIOR MODEL YEARS HAD A DIFFERENT, METAL PART WHICH DOES NOT CRACK AND LEAK UNDER ROUTINE USE. PLEASE NOTE WHILE THIS ISSUE DID NOT CAUSE AN IMMEDIATE SAFETY CONCERN, MY RESEARCH INDICATES THAT NOT FIXING IT PROMPTLY WILL CAUSE UN-BURNT FUEL TO PASS THROUGH THE ENGINE WHICH IS LIKELY TO CAUSE CATALYTIC CONVERTER FAILURE. ON 4/17/19, I WAS DRIVING MY 2014 JEEP WRANGLER JK STOPPED AT A STOP LIGHT (WITH MY WINDOW DOWN) WHEN I DETECTED THE ODOR OF BURNING OIL. I THOUGHT IT WAS FROM SOMEONE ELSE'S CAR. ON 4/21/19, I DETECTED THE ODOR AGAIN, AND WHEN I GOT HOME I OBSERVED OIL LEAKING AND ALL OVER THE UNDERSIDE OF MY VEHICLE. IT ALSO APPEARED TO BE DRIPPING ON MY HOT EXHAUST WHICH IS A FIRE HAZARD. ALSO TRYING TO WORK WITH DEALER TO REPLACE CLUTCH AT REASONABLE PRICE SONCE DAMAGE WAS CAUSED BY A WARRANTIED PART. WHILE TRANSMISSION WAS OUT ALSO FOUND TRANSMISSION FLUID LEAK FROM THE INPUT SHAFT SEAL I HAVE ASKED DEALER TO FIX THIS ISSUE, BUT ONLY RECOMMENDED A TRANSMISSION SERVICE, NOTHING TO VERIFY THE LEAK AND VERIFY THE INPUT SHAFT IS NOT SCORNED OR DAMAGED. WILL TAKE TO ANOTHER DEALER AFTER BEING CHECKED FOR THE DYE, ON THE RECOMMENDATION OF JEEP CUSTOMER SERVICE. HOW IT IS POSSIBLE THAT CHRYSLER CAN ALLOW THIS? AT 47000 MILES THIS SHOULD NEVER HAPPEN AND IS ENEXCEPTABLE.UNTIL THIS EXTENSIVE REPAIR IS COMPLETED THE VEHICLE IS IS RENDERED USELESS AND MY JOB IS NOW INTERRUPTED. IN FACT IN 1 WEEK IT HAPPENED EVERY DAY AND IT HAS HAPPENED MANY TIMES OVER A LONG PERIOD. JEEP SERVICE FOLKS DON'T KNOW WHAT IS CAUSING THE PROBLEM AS THE CODES DO NOT PIN POINT THE PROBLEM. THEY "THINK" POSSIBILITY IT COULD BE PWR FUSE BOX, MAIN COMPUTER OR FWD INSTRUMENT PANEL EA AT A COST OF OVER $1000 TO REPLACE. SERVICE FOLKS WANT T JEEP BROUGHT TO THEM WITH LIGHTS ON, GAUGES ZERO, ENGINE LIGHT FLASHING BUT IT'S AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM AND THEY ARE 30 MILES OR MORE AWAY DEPENDING WHERE THE PROBLEM HAPPENS. SERVICE FOLKS HAVE HAD THE JEEP FOR A TOTAL OF 3 DAYS IN JAN & FEB AND DROVE IT OVER 150 MILE AND THE PROBLEM NEVER APPEARED. IN FEB 2015 WHILE DRIVING (24,171 MILES) THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME "ON" AND JEEP STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. IT WAS RESTARTED AND DRIVEN SO JEEP WAS THEN TAKEN TO DEALER AND THEY FOUND THAT A FAULT CODE SAID "WIRING DOES NOT HAVE ENOUGH SLACK BETWEEN SENSOR & WIRING CAUSING POOR CONNECTION". REPLACED CAM SENSOR & WIRING. FAULT CLEARED. HAVE PHOTOS OF DASH WITH "ALL LIGHTS AND GAUGES SHOWING ZERO AND NO BUS LIGHT ON AND WIPERS GOING BACK AND FORTH. I'LL SEND IF YOU NEED THEM BUT IT ALL LIGHTS AND GAUGES WHICH ARE DEPICTED IN THE OPS MANUAL. THIS POSSIBLE ENGINE STALLING WHILE DRIVING AND POSSIBLE ELECTRICAL FIRE IS A SAFETY ISSUE. CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT. I WAS TOLD IT WAS A CRACK IN THE OIL COOLER HOUSING ASSEMBLY. SERVICE TECH EXPLAINED IT WAS A COMMON ISSUE WITH THIS YEAR MODEL AND THAT JEEP WAS AWARE OF IT. WHEN I ASKED ABOUT PRICING AND RECALLS THE TECH SAID IT WASN'T A RECALLED PART AND THE TOTAL REPAIR COST WOULD BE AROUND $1000.00. CONFUSED I CALLED AROUND TO OTHER JEEP OWNERS AS WELL AS OTHER AUTHORIZED JEEP REPAIR SHOPS AND WAS TOLD THIS. IT IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM BUT NOT COVERED UNDER ANY RECALL. THIS PROBLEM IS ALL TO COMMON FOR THERE NOT TO BE A RECALL. THE DANGER LIES IN THE FACT THAT HAD SOMEONE LESS KNOWLEDGEABLE BEEN DRIVING, FIRE COULD HAVE ERUPTED FROM THE LARGE AMOUNT OF OIL ON THE EXHAUST, ENGINE FAILURE DUE TO A SUDDEN LOSS OF OIL, AND NOT TO MENTION THE OIL THAT IS NOW RUNNING ONTO THE ROADWAY. BUT 5 DAYS LATER, AGAIN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON. MECHANIC CHECKS EVERYTHING HE DID AND CAN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG. HE RESEARCHED AND THINKS IT COULD BE THE EXHAUST VALVE SEATS BEING WORN OUT. THE OIL MIXING WITH THE COOLANT CAUSED IT TO TURN INTO A THICK MUD-LIKE CONSISTENCY THAT CLOGGED UP THE COOLING SYSTEM AND AFTER LETTING IT COOL DOWN I OPENED THE RADIATOR THEN A THICK BROWN OILY/COOLANT MIXTURE SEEPED OUT OF THE RADIATOR. SO THE RADIATOR WAS HOLDING PRESSURE PRIOR TO BRINGING IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE JEEP DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE OIL COOLER HOUSING UNDER WARRANTY ALONG WITH THE RADIATOR HOSES BUT IS NOW SAYING MY RADIATOR HAS A HOLE IN IT AND NOT HOLDING PRESSURE AND THEY ARE REFUSING TO COVER IT UNDER WARRANTY, DESPITE THE JEEP NOT HAVING ANY MECHANICAL ISSUES PRIOR TO A HOLE BLOWING OPEN IN THE ENGINE AND LEAKING OUT OIL. THE JEEP DEALERSHIP REFUSES TO TEST THE ENGINE ANY FURTHER EVEN THOUGH IT RAN FOR 10 MINUTES WITH LITTLE TO NO OIL IN IT WHICH MOST LIKELY CAUSED PRE-MATURE WEAR. THE JEEP DEALERSHIP WANTS ME TO PAY $800+ FOR A NEW RADIATOR. I BOUGHT THIS JEEP 40 DAYS AGO FROM THE DEALERSHIP AND IT'S STILL COVERED UNDER THE 100,000 MILE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY. BECAUSE THE VEHICLE HAS 41K MILES ON IT, THE DEALER WILL NOT COVER THE COST OF THE REPAIR. I CALLED THE MANUFACTURER TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THE FACT THERE APPARENTLY IS NO RECALL ON THIS DEFECTIVE ITEM. I WAS TOLD THAT I COULD DO NOTHING, EXCEPT FOR PUT IN A COMPLAINT ABOUT THE DEALER. MINE STARTED LEAKING AT 20998 MILES. THE LEAK IS IDENTIFIED PRIMARILY BY A POOL OF OIL FORMING IN THE "V" AT THE BASE OF THE COOLER HOUSING, AND MOTOR OIL RUNNING DOWN OFF THE TOP OF THE TRANSMISSION BELLHOUSING AND AROUND THE TRANSMISSION PAN (AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION). THE LEAK IS NOT A TRANSMISSION LEAK, IT IS AN OIL LEAK FROM THE MOTOR OIL COOLER HOUSING.

FROM THE MECHANICS I'VE DISCUSSED THIS WITH THE ISSUE IS QUITE DANGEROUS. THE OIL LEAKS FROM THIS HOUSING DOWN INTO THE "V" OF THE ENGINE BETWEEN THE VALVES AND SITS THERE WITH THE POTENTIAL OF CATCHING FIRE AND BURNING THE VEHICLE AND ITS OCCUPANTS. THE MFG KNOWS THIS IS AN ISSUE FOR THE LAST 3-4 YEARS BUT IS EXPECTING THE OWNERS TO PAY FOR THE DEFECT FROM MANUFACTURING. THE MFG SHOULD BE REPLACING THESE PARTS AS PART OF A LARGER RECALL. THERE WAS OVER 1/2 INCH OF OIL IN THE VALLEY BETWEEN THE HEADS AND OIL HAD BLOWN FROM THE MOTOR TO THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL. THIS PART IS CONVENIENTLY NOT COVERED UNDER THE 5 YR 100,000 MILE ENGINE WARRANTY AND THE DEALER SAID THE PART HAS NOT BEEN UPGRADED.

THIS INVOLVES THE MOTOR OIL IN THE VEHICLE AND LEAKS REGARDLESS OF WHETHER THE VEHICLE IS IDLE OR BEING DRIVEN. ONCE THE WRANGLER IS DRIVEN THE THE OIL HEATS UP, AND THINS OUT, CAUSING THE OIL TO LEAK IN LARGER AMOUNTS AND FASTER. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE LEAKING OIL CAN START AN ENGINE FIRE OR TOO MUCH OIL LOST CAN CAUSE AN ENGINE TO BE DAMAGED OR EVEN SEIZE. JEEP CORPORATE CUSTOMER SERVICE HAS BEEN NOTIFIED OF THIS ISSUE AND THEIR "CASE MANAGEMENT" TEAM HAS BEEN INVOLVED IN ATTEMPTING TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE, HOWEVER, TO-DATE ALL CUSTOMER SERVICE REPS INDICATE THERE IS NO RECALL OR INVESTIGATION INTO THESE ISSUES. OIL HAD BEEN LEAKING OUT FROM ON TOP OF THE ENGINE WORRYING ME OF A POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD BUT I MANAGED TO GET IT TO THE SHOP. APPARENTLY THIS PART IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY, BUT THIS IS A WIDELY KNOWN ISSUE WITH 2014 MODELS SPECIFICALLY ALL CHRYSLER MADE VEHICLES WITH THIS ENGINE. $500 FIX IS NOT FUN WHEN IT'S A KNOWN ISSUE BY THE COMPANY WHO ON 2015 MODELS FIXED IT AND NEVER ADDRESSED OR WARNED 2014 MODEL OWNERS. *TR
ON 12/04/2016 I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT AROUND 80MPH WHEN A LOAD EXPLOSION STOPPED MY ENGINE. I IMMEDIATE STOPPED AS SMOKE STARTED TO COME INSIDE THE CABIN. I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO FIND THE ISSUE QUICKLY AND DIAGNOSE IT. THIS ALSO IS AN ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUE, HAVING FLUIDS ESPECIALLY ENGINE OIL, LEAK ONTO ROADWAYS OR OTHER DRIVING SURFACES. JEEP HAS YET TO FORMALLY ADMIT TO THIS ISSUE, THOSE SEVERAL IF NOT ALL DEALERS ARE AWARE OF THIS ISSUE IN THE 2014 YEAR MODEL. I WAS ABLE TO LOCATE AT LEASE 50 OTHER COMPLAINTS WITH THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. THIS ISSUE IS JUST NOT AN INCONVENIENCE BUT A SAFETY HAZARD AS WELL BECAUSE OIL ON TOP OF THE ENGINE AND THE EXHAUST IS A FIRE HAZARD. THIS LEAK OCCURRED BOTH WHITE THE VEHICLE WAS MOVING AND SITTING STILL. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY BEING REPAIRED AT THE DEALER.

I UNDERSTAND THAT JEEP CURRENTLY HAS A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM IN COMMANDERS AND GRAND CHEROKEES, BUT THERE IS NOTHING FOR WRANGLERS. I CALLED MY DEALERSHIP, BUT THEY WILL NOT DIAGNOSE OR REPLACE ANYTHING FOR FREE WITHOUT AN ACTIVE RECALL. I AM 6' AND DO NOT SIT EXCESSIVELY CLOSE TO THE STEERING WHEEL. WHICH IS WHERE I LIVE. THEY LOOKED IT OVER AND TOLD ME IT WAS A SPILL FROM WHEN I HAD THE OIL CHANGED AT OIL CAN HENRY'S. THEY CLEANED IT UP A BIT AND CHARGED ME 72.00 AND TOLD ME I WAS GOOD TO GO. I TOOK IT TO THE CAR WASH AND FLUSHED THE ENGINE VALLEY OUT REALLY GOOD AND DROVE IT HOME. SPEED LIMIT IN THIS AREA IS 55. I CAME UPON A FARM TRUCK WHO WAS TRAVELING AT APPROX. 45-50 MPH. WHEN CONDITIONS WERE SAFE, I PULLED INTO THE ONCOMING LANE AND PROCEEDED TO ACCELERATE VERY HARD TO PASS THE FARM VEHICLE IN A SAFE DISTANCE. THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS ON BUT WAS CURRENTLY NOT IN USE. AS I WAS ALMOST AROUND THE FARM VEHICLE I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE GAS BUT THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE AT FULL THROTTLE. I FIRST VIEWED THE ROAD AHEAD OF ME TO SEE IF IT WAS CLEAR WHILE AT THE SAME TIME I STOMPED ON THE BRAKE. I ALSO TURNED THE CRUISE CONTROL COMPLETELY OFF. AN ERROR MESSAGE FLASHED ON THE DASH HOWEVER DUE TO THE CIRCUMSTANCES I DID NOT SEE WHAT IT INDICATED. THE BRAKING HELPED BUT AS SOON AS I TOOK THE FOOT OFF THE BRAKE IT CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE AT FULL THROTTLE. I WOULD ESTIMATE THAT THE JEEP REACHED A SPEED OF 100 WHEN THIS HAPPENED. I THEN PREPARED TO PLACE THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL BUT FIRST REACHED AND GRABBED THE FLOOR MAT AND YANKED IT AS HARD AS I COULD TO PULL IT AWAY FROM THE GAS PEDAL AS I WAS STILL UNSURE OF WHAT WAS HAPPENING. THE ISSUE FELT MORE LIKE AN ELECTRONIC ISSUE THEN A GAS PEDAL CAUGHT ON A FLOOR MAT. HOWEVER THIS DID SEEM TO STOP THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION. ONCE HOME I VERIFIED THAT I COULD NOT SEE IN ANY WAY HOW THE FLOOR MAT WOULD HOLD DOWN THE GAS PEDAL AS THE GAS PEDAL SNAPS BACK WITH QUITE A BIT OF FORCE WHEN PUSHING THE FLOOR MAT IN FRONT OF THE PEDAL. UPON COASTING FOR A SHORT DISTANCE, ENGINE POWER RESTORED, AND I WAS ABLE TO ACCELERATE AND CONTINUE DRIVING WITHOUT FURTHER TROUBLE THAT DAY. I DID NOT TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR BECAUSE I ASSUMED IT WAS AN ISOLATED EPISODE. HOWEVER, ON JULY 22, 2014, I AGAIN HAD TROUBLE WHILE ON ANOTHER 300-MILE ROUND-TRIP ROAD TRIP. DURING THE RETURN DRIVE, THE VEHICLE LOST ENGINE POWER AT LEAST SIX TIMES BOTH ON THE INTERSTATE AND ON LOCAL ROADS. EACH TIME, I HAD TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD SO AS TO NOT BLOCK THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC. AFTER A SHORT TIME, ABOUT 30 SECONDS, ENGINE POWER RESTORED, AND I WAS AGAIN ABLE TO ACCELERATE AND CONTINUE ON WITH MY TRIP. I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN TO THE DEALER ON JULY 23, 2014, WHERE IT WAS KEPT UNTIL JULY 28, 2014. THE TECHNICIANS WERE UNABLE TO REPRODUCE THE ISSUE, AND THE PROBLEM COULD NOT BE IDENTIFIED. SOFTWARE UPDATES WERE RUN IN AN ATTEMPT TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. I AGAIN HAD TROUBLE WITH THE VEHICLE ON AUGUST 18, 2014, WHEN DRIVING A 400-MILE ROUND-TRIP ROAD TRIP. DURING THE DRIVE, THE VEHICLE LOST ENGINE POWER FIVE TIMES ON THE INTERSTATE, AT SPEEDS UP TO 70 MILES PER HOUR. UPON THE FIFTH EPISODE THAT DAY, I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE CLOSEST DEALER FOR IMMEDIATE ATTENTION, AS I FEARED I WOULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT BY LOSING ENGINE POWER WHILE DRIVING ON A BUSY INTERSTATE. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT WAS UNABLE TO REPRODUCE THE ISSUE, BUT THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT HE SAW SIGNS OF THE PROBLEM I DESCRIBED DURING HIS EVALUATIVE DRIVE. THE VEHICLE WAS RELEASED TO ME AND I WAS TOLD TO TAKE IT BACK TO THE USUAL DEALER THE FOLLOWING DAY FOR A MORE COMPREHENSIVE EVALUATION. UPON DRIVING IT FOR OVER 100 MILES, THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT HAS BEEN UNABLE TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND, THUS, AGAIN HAS BEEN UNABLE TO IDENTIFY AND REPAIR THE ISSUE. *TR

THEN NOTICED SMALL OIL PUDDLE UNDER JEEP IN PARKING SPOT AND OIL ON UNDERSIDE OF JEEP. TOOK IN FOR SERVICE AND DEALER STATED SAW OIL BUT NO IDEA WHERE IT'S COMING FROM, WASHED DOWN ENGINE TOLD TO WATCH FOR OIL. OIL LEAK CONTINUES TO WORSEN AND CALL FOR APPOINTMENT WHICH IS 2 WEEKS OUT BECAUSE LOANER IS NEEDED. OIL DOWN 1/2 QUART FROM LEAKING. COME HOME TONIGHT AND LARGE OIL PUDDLE UNDER JEEP. LIFT HOOD AND TAKE OFF ENGINE COVER AND A LARGE POOL OF OIL ON TOP OF ENGINE RIGHT NEXT TO OIL FILTER HOUSING. DO SOME RESEARCH ON WEB AND IT APPEARS THAT CRACKED OIL FILTER HOUSINGS ARE AN ISSUE ON THE 2014 WRANGLERS. CALL DEALERSHIP AND THEY ARE UNABLE TO MOVE UP APPOINTMENT BECAUSE NO LOANERS ARE AVAILABLE. I TOOK THE JEEP INTO THE DEALERSHIP ON MARCH 6TH AND THEY NOTICED THE SPILLING OF OIL. I DROPPED OF MY JEEP WITH THEM AND THEY SAID THEY FIXED IT. THEY SAID THAT MY OIL COOLER WAS LEAKING. AND THEY REPLACED THE OIL COOLER. COME TO FIND OUT THIS IS A MAJOR FIRE HAZARD. A BRAND NEW CAR AND THE OIL COOLER FAILS. THEY WERE REALLY VAGUE AS TO WHY THIS HAPPENED AND BRUSHED ME OFF TELLING ME "ITS FIXED, DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT". I DON'T FEEL COMFORTABLE NOW DRIVING MY JEEP AND I AM CONCERNED IF THIS IS A LEMON CAR. I SPOKE TO SEVERAL MANAGERS OVER AT RIVER OAKS CHRYSLER JEEP AND THEY SEEMED TO BRUSH ME OFF AND WOULD TELL ME "YOU ARE GETTING MAD OVER A CAR; ONE OF OUR SALES JUST FOUND OUT HE HAS CANCER".
